Cogman (Transformers)
Tumblr media
Cogman is a character from the 2017 film 'Transformers: Last Knight' he is a Transformer butler for Anthony Hopkin's character Sir Edmund Burton.
The film reveals that Transformers have been present on Earth for centuries. It opens with a flashback to the Middle Ages, where King Arthur and his knights receive help from a group of Transformers led by a Cybertronian knight named Dragonstorm. Merlin, the wizard, is given a staff of immense power by the Transformers to help Arthur win a battle.
In the present day, Earth is in chaos as the government hunts Transformers. Optimus Prime, having left Earth to find his creator, meets Quintessa, a powerful alien who claims to be the creator of Cybertronians. She corrupts Optimus, turning him into Nemesis Prime, and sends him back to Earth to retrieve Merlin’s ancient staff—an object that can restore Cybertron by draining Earth’s energy.
Meanwhile, Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) is in hiding for helping Autobots. He encounters an old Transformer knight who gives him a mysterious talisman. He is later brought to Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), a historian who reveals the Transformers' deep connection to Earth's history. Burton also recruits Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock), an Oxford professor, as she is the last descendant of Merlin and the only one who can wield the staff.
As factions clash over the staff, Optimus returns under Quintessa’s control and battles Bumblebee. However, Bumblebee’s voice—restored for the first time—snaps Optimus out of his trance. The Autobots, Cade, and the military join forces to stop Quintessa and her Decepticons from using the staff to destroy Earth.
The final battle takes place in Stonehenge, where Cybertron is beginning to merge with Earth. The heroes manage to retrieve the staff and defeat Quintessa. Optimus and the Autobots then vow to rebuild Cybertron while also protecting Earth.
In a post-credits scene, Quintessa, disguised as a human, warns that Unicron—Earth's true form—is awakening, setting up potential future conflicts.
The movie attempts to expand the Transformers mythology, blending historical and sci-fi elements, but was met with mixed reviews for its convoluted plot.
The design of Cogman stands out because unlike the rest of the Transformers he is human-sized and has anatomy very similar to a humans. I don't really like this design choice as part of what makes Transformers cool is their giant size and designs of car parts formed together to make something humanoid but this character doesn't have that so he stands out but not in a good way.

i cant articulate it well right now becuase it's 4am and im exhausted but this is keeping me up so here you go There's on point in TLK where Cade asks why he was chosen as this knight and Viviane starts listing off all the qualities of knighthood and then adds, as an embarrassing or shameful though at the end, that one of thkse qualities is chasteness. Chastity. Whatever you want to call it and then she and Edmund have a little laugh over Cade's embarrassment at not having sex in a while and it just? makes me so uncomfortable?? like first of all, using the knights of the round table as an example since they were so important, you at the very least have Lancelot and Guinevere fuckimg behind King Arthur's back, so the veritable pinnacle of Knighthood is clearly not all that chaste then I'm pretty sure at least two other knights are fucking each other (percival, i think, and one other, i can't remember)(also dependant on interpretation) In King Arthur's charge to his knights, he never mentions chastity. At one point he mentions abstinence, but whether he means it as sexual abstinence or sobriety is unclear. Again, I feel that's up to interpretation. but i digress, my main point is that Cade has not been sexually active since he a) lost his... fiance? and b) went into hiding with a bunch of alien robots. Whether or not this celibacy was intentional, its really not that funny to make a joke of. The poor man's been through hell and back, he doesnt deserve this backhanded compliment/mocking. Plus the joke was just in poor taste all together(but what else did I expect from Bay?) The whole scene just left me feeling uncomfortable and even Cogman's little Phantom-esque interruptions couldnt make it funny.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
Transformers: The Last Knight is a contender for the worst film of the Transformers film series. The film introduces several plot threads that could potentially be interesting but chooses to do nothing with the majority of them. Because of this, the film's plotting is disjointed, difficult to follow, and impossible to settle into as the film repeatedly leaves the audience in the dust. What plot threads are permitted to be resolved are completely anticlimactic. Many character do nothing or fulfill roles that could have been fulfilled by other characters. The film also focuses mainly on the human characters, with the Transformers themselves either serving as comic relief or simple not appearing onscreen to give the humans more screen time. There are several scenes that make no sense, and the film is bogged down with pointless cameos from characters from previous films in the series and an excess of uninteresting and confusing exposition. In addition, the series continues to be insulting in its treatment of women. Female characters act in illogical ways, and the film features what may be a cleavage shot from a fourteen-year-old character. Not a single aspect of this movie is worth sitting through the entire film to see. Film goers should definitely give this one a skip.

idk but by reading some of these articles it makes me wonder if people were actually paying attention???
Fact One: Sir Edmund Burton is the last living brother of the Order of the Witwiccans, an Order Sam Witwicky's family was either a part of or descended from(they're not clear on that point)(also not counting Simmons half-assed induction)
Fact Two: One does not need to be a Witwicky/Witwiccan to be a member of the Order - as is proven by the many non-Witwicky's on display
Fact Three: Vivian Wembly is the last direct descendant of Merlin(major emphasis on direct)
(Apparent) General Assumption: Sam must be dead.
Sam is a Witwicky, and yes his picture is included in the... idk what to call it; "family line" room? What they fail to explain is whether or not he was an actual member of the order, or just included because of relation. They also never said whether he was related to Merlin.
Clans are made up of more than one singular family line. Clans have many definitions, but based off of the fact that this particular clan was began during Merlin's time, it wouldn't be weird to assume that its this version: a close-knit group of inter-related families. As in; more that one line. Generaly, married accross lines. But still, more than a single bloodline.
I am, through blood relation, a member of the Gunn Clan of Scottland: a clan made up of no less than a dozen families.
Point being, just because Sir Edmund is the last member of the Order, and Vivian is the last direct descendant of Merlin, does not a dead Sam make.
And until they come out and straight-up say it, I refuse to accept the theory.

beloved by toni morrison (black horror, gothic horror, historical fiction)
what’s it about?: sethe, a runaway slave woman living in exile from her community, deals with grief, trauma and loss alongside her daughter, denver, and her mysterious house guest, beloved. that is all i can say without spoiling the whole thing!
why i love it; it’s about the grief, it’s about violence and blood as a form of love, it’s about paul d looking at sethe’s back and seeing the beauty in her horrible scars, and it’s about sethe accepting that she’s her own best thing
trigger warnings: rape, violence, slavery, anti-blackness
pride & prejudice by jane austen ( classics, romance )
what’s it about; a man of means must be in want of a wife ... mr. bingley is rich and mrs. bennet wants HER daughter to marry him, but like, so does everyone else, but mr. bingley has this annoying, stuck up friend, mr. darcy, and elizabeth bennet (lizzie, as everyone knows her) does NOT like him, but yes she does. also, there’s a lot of social prejudices, like someone with only two servants is poor and weird and uncouth, and someone with a manor is the best, EVEN if he’s been known to disgrace fair ladies 😳 and it’s all complex and interesting to read
why i recommend it; it’s thee original romantic comedy, and while i get annoyed when people water down these classic plots to ‘blah blah blah short thing’, that’s literally the best way to describe it. and yes, there are tender moments, yes, there are hand-clench moments, but there’s also a lot of interesting moments that go into the social politics of the time!
sir gawain & the green knight, as translated by Burton Raffel (classics, poetry, epic fiction)
what’s it about; so imagine you’re having a christmas party, and some weird guy says ‘hey! cut off my head!’ so you do it, and then he stands back up and goes, ‘cool! in a year’s time, i’ll return the favor’, and now you have to go on an epic quest that tests your honor and chivalry and religion. also this guy is green.
why i recommend it; a) because dev patel movie, and b) it’s such an incredible piece of fiction. i read the burton raffel version, but i’ve been eyeing the j.r.r. tolkien version ... you just have to choose which one’s right for you, or! read all the versions until you settle on a favorite!
watership down by richard adams
what’s it about; the rabbits have a complex society. but, more in depth, fiver (the runt of den) sees a human-made sign and has a vision of the rabbit warren being destroyed but ALSO a vision of this promised land...watership down ... there’s power struggles, there’s two (2) rabbit cults, and so many moments that made me want to lay face down in the grass
why i recommend it; fiver is cassandra, a doomed and cursed prophet, and hazel is the chosen one with too much weight on his shoulders...there are so many moments of shock and brutality that are balanced by goodness, by love and friendship and kinship ... the rabbits befriend a bird ... prince with a thousand enemies, when they catch you, they’ll kill you...but first they must catch you
housekeeping by marilyanne robinson (domestic fiction)
what’s it about; after their mother commits suicide, two sisters go to live in a mountain town with their grandmother. when their grandmother passes, their aunt (a drifter) comes to take care of them. it’s about the family relationships, it’s about sibling bonds, it’s questioning what does it mean to be a mother? what does it mean to be a social outcast?
why i recommend it; a young lesbian grows super attached to her lesbian drifter aunt...i don’t know what else you want me to say, it’s so incredibly touching
red dragon by thomas harris
what’s it about; retired fbi profiler will graham is pulled back into the dark world of criminal investigation, and must work with hannibal lecter to catch francis dolerhyde, “the tooth fairy”
why i recommend it; it’s nothing like that show, so like ... dash that out of your head. it’s superior to the show, it surpasses the show. if you want gay shit, you will get gay shit, but the real power of this story is like, the depravity. it’s about will breaking inside because he has to bring his wife and step-child into this world, it’s about will having the potential for great violence and doing nothing with it, it’s about hannibal lecter being a full-on bitch 24/7 and coaxing/teasing that cruelty out of people for FUNSIES, it’s amazing, it’s delicious.
trigger warnings: extreme violence, mentions of cannibalism
no more descriptions underneath the cut for now! i’ll come back to this post when I have the energy! or, you can ask me specifically about the books i’ve recommended.
