Born on this day 110 years ago: actress Kathleen Burke (5 September 1913 – 9 April 1980). She’s almost solely remembered for the 1932 horror movie Island of Lost Souls (tagline: “The Panther Woman lured men on … only to destroy them body and soul!”). Sporting the kind of heavy black eyeliner that anticipates Siouxsie Sioux or Exene Cervenka, Burke makes a vivid impression as the sarong-clad Lota the Panther Woman. As a publicity stunt, Paramount Pictures held a competition to cast an unknown in the role of Lota. Burke (a dental assistant from Chicago) entered the contest and beat an estimated 60,000 contestants. Her film career was ultimately fleeting. Burke retired from the screen in 1938, returned to obscurity and died in 1980.

What are The Lost Boys Costumes For Halloween?

Hello, my most steemed audience! First of all, Happy Halloween to you all! Hope you get to enjoy this brutally amazing day as much as you can! Do not forget to always stay safe. Second of all, I wanted to write a "spooky" one-shot for tonight, but school kept me busy for several days and I couldn't get it done. But maybe I will be posting it in the future, who knows? Anyway, while that time comes, I'm proud of bringing you my take on what would the boys dress up as for this delectable day.

May you get lots of treats and a vampire outside your window tonight!

Paul

He is dressing up as Tommy Lee or Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe. He asks Dwayne to spray his hair with temporary black hair spray, and would act smug all night and believe he's a real badass and part of a glam metal band for a whole week.

Dwayne

He's dressing up as a panther. Of course not with those complete furry outfits, but by changing a black leather jacket with a painting similar to the design of his usual cover. He would wear even tighter black leather pants and some boots. Maybe even painting his torso a bit with stripped patterns to give a boost to the costume.

Star

Star will be Siouxsie Sioux this year. She, alike Paul, is asking Dwayne to help her with her hair to make it look spiked up and goth. She is using one black skirt from her collection to complete the look.

Marko

We have Indiana Joe for the Greek statue here. Of course copying the style from those scenes where Harrison Ford's shirt is ripped, needing so badly to flaunt the abs and biceps he had been working on during summer.

Michael and David

They're dressing up as a couple for Halloween. How cute, don't you think? Well, just don't remind David of it, he's too tough for this corny stuff. Michael worked hard from three months prior Halloween to convince him to be a playboy bunny. Really, because he wanted to be Hugh Hefner. The most incredible part? David actually accepted, after many days of laughing him off, and now they're walking at the boardwalk being the night's sensation.

Sam

He's dressing up as Bowie with the iconic thunder painted almost professionally (thanks to Lucy) on his face. He had Paul help him to arranging the clothes for the look, borrowing one of his coats. Oh, and it's his first time wearing high boots for more than fifteen minutes, so he will trip over his own feet a few times, needing to hold himself up against walls and furniture during the night.

Edgar

He's Rambo.

That's it, that's his spirit.

But seriously tho, he was trying to think what to choose to dress up as for spooky night when his bandana's knot loosened a bit and the bulb above his head turned on.

Alan

He managed to find enough patches and the correct green jacket from his closet to be Pete Mitchell from Top Gun. If you know Horatio from "CSI Miami", you know what he'll be doing the whole day with the aviator glasses.

7. How does your character perceive themselves? Positive? Negative? Neutral?

ANGEL //  She, for the most part, perceives herself as positive. Will she kill somebody in an instant? hell yeah. but she doesn’t see herself as a negative person. 

JADE // she sees herself having a chaotic nature - often pushing people away that she cares about most . but she would easily consider herself a neutral person. she is negative and hurtful when she needs to be but she can also have a kind and soft heart.

12. Describe 5 unusual characteristics your muse has.

michael // ( okay so these will be mostly AU but here we go ) //

michael loves his bike as much as his life. out of everything he brought from his old life this is the most important to him. hes always spent time fixing it up and cleaning it. it is one thing that brings him joy.

michael enjoys weight lifting. he is by no means a typical california muscle beach meat head but he likes to keep himself in shape.

he is ready to take on any challenge and prove himself. he hates being looked down upon due to how his father figure was. dare him to do something- he is likely to do it. hell, he almost ran his bike off of a damn cliff.

in his vampiric life - michael often staves off his thirst as long as he can. this has a negative effect on the vampire and he will often bathe in the blood of his next victim - enjoying every last drop in a gorey mess.

although he wasn’t at first - michael is extremely loyal towards david and the boys. they have become his new family and he would do anything for them. 

JADE // 

she loves scissors. not a single day goes by where she doesn’t have a pair on her. 

her favourite pair of scissors was broken by Cat on accident ( in a story with @bibbleobsessed , specifically ) . they were an actual prop from her favourite horror film.

jade’s favourite horror film is THE SCISSORING. and no. it is not a lesbian porn, okay.

she is EXTREMELY talented at staying in character. one time she grabbed a PIPING HOT cake pan from the oven and gave herself third degree blistering burns on her hands and she STILL didn’t break character.

take Jade’s coffee away and you will find yourself on the wrong side of her scissors. trust me. it’s like the one thing she loves. besides cat.

CARMILLA KARNSTEIN // 

she can turn into a panther. an odd ability, but one that has proven to be useful. so if you want a giant black house cat / like sookie @vampirecrack / there you go.

carmilla LOATHED every minute she was forced to spend inside that blood filled casket, forever mourning the death of her beloved ELL.

her maman is satan incarnate. she would literally pick a hot date with satan over spending one day with Lilita like ever again.

carmilla hasn’t had a single night’s rest since she felt the betrayal of her sweet Ell seeing her as the monster she was.

feeding from Ell all those nights was her biggest regret. if she could go back then she would gladly change the outcome.

ANGEL // 

angel LOVES reading comic books. her favourites are dark horse comics. but she has been known to own an issue of batman that is  e x t r e m e l y   rare when she was human. 

she always wore a single black leather braided cord bracelet - up until she gave it to STAR. her sister hand made it for her when they were little and it meant the world to her. some days she regrets giving it to star, other days she is happy because it was a tie to her old life.

she was raised in a CATHOLIC family. they sent her to private school as long as she can remember and she  h a t e d   every moment of it.

s o m e b o d y   always seems to steal her clothes and knives. but she’s cool with it. she’d never try to get them back anyways - unless her siouxsie sioux signed shirt or the cure tour shirts happened to disappear.

angel would KILL to go to a misfits or sex pistols show live. she always used to secretly watch them on TV back home behind her parents back.

( and another for shits and giggles ) Angel cut her hair short when she was fourteen while her mother and father were out of town at a conference. when they returned her father beat the living hell out of her literally telling her it was the devil’s haircut. oddly enough they didn’t say a SINGLE thing to her sister ANNIKA when she damn near shaved her head bald not long after.  

2. Does your character have any noteworthy features? Freckles? Dimples? A scar somewhere unusual? etc. // angel

the majority of the upper left side of her face is scarred permanently. she received it as punishment by her ex-coven leader Billy when she disobeyed an order to kill Star. instead she helped her and michael escape their clutches - no matter how much she hated michael for gaining star’s heart. angel is EXTREMELY self conscious about the scars and if she finds that somebody is staring at them she will just look away and towards the ground, staying silent. they serve as a permanent reminder to her to remain loyal to those closest to you. though she will answer any questions when asked about them - to an extent.

A (Very Rough & Ready) Guide to Alex’s Tattoos

I’ve been putting this off for a LONG time because I like to be meticulous especially with character visuals but with the amount of tattoos Alex has, especially on his expansive canvas of a 6 foot body, trying to find a pictoral example for EVERY bit of ink is... YEAH lmfao.

* As a guiding note, the indicating ‘left’ & ‘right’ etc. is from HIS left and right. All heart designs are typical cartoon shape unless stated as (anatomical).

NECK //

Underneath his ear lobe, on the left side of his neck is a hand holding a needle -- designed to look as if it’s pierced through his skin. At the top of the needle is a red thread which curves semi-loosely around the back of his neck and wraps around a red heart below his right earlobe.This can only be seen if you lift (or pull) up his hair since he never, if rarely ever, ties it back high enough. 

LEFT ARM // 

FINGERS: Simplified red rose gradually blooming from little to index finger, from bud to full bloom. This is just below the top of his knuckles, below them (closer to his nails) on each finger is a stem with thorns.  HAND: Bull face, directed towards viewer -- lineart with minimal black shading. FOREARM: Basically a flash tattoo / pork-chop sheet mixture (see here & here  -- middle pic). Omitting anything explicitly religious (apart from a cross or two) and culturally appropriative. Includes a range of panthers, snakes, skulls, hummingbird with beak in flower, handcuffs, full figure Betty Boop, inkwell and heart wrapped in barbed wire. All interspersed with Felix the Cat faces and little stars to fill blank spaces. Very clear linework and simple shading, only using bright colours: red, green, blue and yellow. Some of these are done by Alex himself, his first tattoo on his own body being an ouroboros snake.  UPPER ARM: Much of the same as above, except with the addition of a Sailor Jerry style pin-up with blonde hair in a corset and heels. Also a chain band just below his shoulder. SHOULDER: Lucifer from Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights. First tattoo with complex colour-shading, done by his first employer in London who he worked with as apprentice. 

RIGHT ARM //

FINGERS: Skeleton anatomy on the full-length of his middle finger and knuckles, the rest of his fingers (near nails) and his thumb are blocked with plain black. HAND: Continues with skeleton anatomy. Entire design is clearly inked style shading (as in nothing that looks anatomically realistic) like this. FOREARM: Contemporary & post-modern designs. Inner forearm is covered with praying mule from And the Ass Saw the Angel book cover. Outer forearm is design pictured on the left here, picture was taken at an exhibition which I have the guide to and artist credit but .. whoever edited it  helpfully didn’t align credit with the picture so I need to manually look up each artist listed to HOPEFULLY find the one who did it.  UPPER ARM / SHOULDER:  Literally cannot describe but is piece by Jef Palumbo. Due to technique being incredibly skilled, I am taking full advantage of fictionality and tattooist with these mad skillz existing in early nineties for Alex’s sake... let him have this ..

CHEST / TORSO //

The largest / most expansive singular piece on his body. His chest and torso are fully covered with a design I lifted off a Jean Paul Gaultier add and tried editing onto his bawdy for promo graphic a while ago -- unlike graphic, the tattoo would still be in the same colour as Gaultier ad, but yellow of skull would be red instead -- less tribal texture and more lined mark-making like the skull featured in me blog background to the left of Alex’s head (I can’t find the pic in my folder..)

BACK //

UPPER BACK: This is where a little imagination is required as I’ll just be listing a bunch of images but they’re all collaged in a cohesive/overlapping way like Duncan X’s back -- pic taken by Liam Sparkes. So;  Saint Sebastian by Myles Karr down Alex’s spine. On the left: text from this photo by Tish Murtha complete with exposed brick effect -- in black and white. On the right: text from this, including a stencilised Pauline Boty rendered in Lichtenstein-ish comic print style, with matching Lichtenstein bright colour scheme. These three images together and with a certain scaling form an arc shape across his upper back, and the thread mentioned earlier on the back of his neck hangs an inch above the Saint Sebastian’s hands. Spaces in between filled by Jemma Jones style flash tattoos. LOWER BACK: I’m getting lazy so again, just imagine in style of Sparkes tattoos summat like this mixed with this on the left and again more flash tattoos imposed between and over blank spaces.

THIGH (FRONT): Entire leg is surrealist/dadaist themed. Whole front of thigh is coverd by this collage by Otto D’Ambra. THIGH (BACK): Under his butt: Eliott Lane. Under that, another Otto D’Ambra. Around them, these (1, 2) by Caleb Kilby, and top middle illustration by Kathryn Kirk. KNEE: Left eye of Siouxsie Sioux, (right eye on his right knee). I’m imagining these are also embellished around the edges by a circular labyrinth symbol pattern to fit the shape of his knee joint.  SHIN: Fish-head man by Kerry-Anne Richardson, black and white. CALF: Hannah Hoch collage, but in black and white -- rendered much like D’Ambra tattoo on the front of his thigh (semi-realistic pointilism shading for woman’s face, simplified basic outline for images surrounding it). ANKLE: Smoking bunny by Sarah Whitehouse. * Spaces between these main pieces are filled by flash tattoos in style of Liam Sparkes. Entire leg is only black ink.

RIGHT LEG // 

THIGH (FRONT): Entire leg mirrors left arm in a mixture of classic tattoo designs/styles with pop-culture & illustrative character leanings. Multi-eyed devil (??) piece by Kerry-Anne Richardson. Full colour. Fishnet leggies by Just Jen on inside of thigh. THIGH (BACK): Skull emerging from chrysanthemum by Ben Shaw, underneath that: crescent moon by Kerry-Anne Richardson. KNEE: Aforementioned Siouxsie Sioux eye in labyrinth. SHIN: Wolf in sheep’s clothing by Iain Sellar.  CALF: THIS!!!!!!!! by Charissa Gregson. He hasn’t got a name yet.. suggestions welcome. Below him, more Iain Sellar stuff. ANKLE: Peachy-keen, piece by Holly Ashby. * Spaces in between main pieces on thigh are filled by Dennis the Menace & Peanuts panel. Out of sheer self-indulgence I’m adding this lady. Every other blank space refers back to Sparkes and Jemma Jones flash tattoos.
