viserys iii being the youngest son, second son, eldest daughter and single mother all at once. viserys who was quarantined as a young child with only his mother as company. viserys who believed the lies fed to a child about his father. viserys who could never live up to rhaegar’s example. viserys who taught daenerys about what they left behind. viserys who called her dany. viserys who raised his sister as his own. viserys who sold their mother’s crown to keep them fed. viserys who was ridiculed, who had to beg to survive, who had to protect himself and his sister from assassins while he was still a child. viserys who could never look forward, who was always looking back.

Did you catch one of the reasons why Rhaenyra didn’t believe her father changed his mind was “My father loved me” ah so she’s acknowledging once again that her father didn’t love his 4 other children?
It gave Driftmark “Thank you FATHER” all over again.
This overgrown ass woman has never seen those kids as anything but Alicent’s and they were treated by the whole Targaryen and by extension the Velaryon family- like outsiders.
Rhaenys’s little speech about “when it all began” doesn’t acknowledge that it had already began when their whole family decided to ice out a 15 year old girl who they knew was forced to marry the King. She wants to now talk about family and kinship but they weren’t treated as family because he didn’t choose their 12 year daughter to be his child bride. It already started with Rhaenyra and Daemon hating innocent literal infants and not accepting them into the family fold.
Alicent and Criston not caring for Rhaenyra’s sons are treated like a crime in this fandom whereas the treatment of the Green kids is widely seen as justifiable because of how they are as teens and young adults as if they weren’t just innocent babies and children before too and maybe if they had been treated like family then it what they’re going to do during the dance wouldn’t have been so easy for them.
I’m also really tired of the writers not acknowledging that Viserys was a horrible father to Aegon, Aemond, Helaena and Daeron . His unwillingness to to love them out of some loyalty to Aemma and Baelon, yet his willingness to keep making them is one of his if not his biggest flaw. Viserys is getting the treatment of a modern day celeb/politician who has done shitty things but died suddenly so people are now rewriting history. How do they go from Alicent telling Rhaenys that Viserys wasn’t fit to be King, it should’ve been her. From that moment in the script where she tells Otto that Viserys was a weak and his reign was forgettable and she didn’t want people to draw comparisons to Aegon and his father. To Alicent saying that Aegon is half the King is father was and Otto giving Viserys credit for his, Lionel’s, the small council and Alicent’s work?
How is Rhaenyra defending Viserys with her soul to Daemon as if she didn’t live a stones throw away from her dying father and didn’t give a fuck enough to visit him or tell him that she has had 2 more children until she needed a favor from him that sped up his death. As if he didn’t ruin her life by attempting to breed her Mother like cattle until she died?
Tumblr media
gghgjghgjggjg the anons in my inbox are going off today!!!! not a single lie was told.
"Alicent and Criston not caring for Rhaenyra’s sons are treated like a crime in this fandom whereas the treatment of the Green kids is widely seen as justifiable" absolutely fucking this.

Mind you ,I’m complaining as a tragedy enjoyer and Rhaenicent shipper but one of the many reasons I hate the whole “Alicent loves Rhaenyra more than her kids and she is only on their side because of her sense of duty” is because …her love for her children is a lot more genuine and pure than what she feels for Rhaenyra .Like ,yes her sense of duty makes her side with them but it’s very clear that no matter how motherhood is hard for her ,she is very much trying to do her best in a genuine way ! It’s a different of when she is taking care of Viserys ,since ,despite all the compassion she feels for him ,she is still frustrated and doesn’t really want to do that .While when she tries to connect with her kids ,it’s because she wants to .She struggles to reach out to them (Hel’s scene with her and the Aegon one in ep 6) and she doesn’t exactly understand them but she is trying in a very genuine way .They are the ones who make her lose control at Driftmark ,they are also her very few devoted companions in her life , the main theme of her arc centers on her becoming a mother and the things she will do to protect her children and generally ,not even the Olivia Cooke and the writing place the word “duty” and “children” when they are talking about the latter .Olivia says Alicent loves the bones of Aegon and despite him being inefficient he is her baby boy and her closest relationship is with Aemond and she is trying to connect with Hel so hard ,and honestly ,she is probably the pseudo (I don’t think she really has favorites) favorite (“my dearest love”) .Like ,that is pure unconditional love over there ,no matter what .
And what she had with Rhaenyra was important ! She was a big part of her and Rhae basically represents all the happiest days of her childhood who was stripped from her .But after all the betrayal and very -difficult -to -fix falling out? .
The love was there and she definitely still longs for a the happier days of their shared girlhood , but their feelings for each other are tainted misunderstandings, priorities ,jealousy , power play ,politics etc .And you know ,Alicent definitely still carries a piece of Rhaenyra with her but does she love the latter more than the idea of her kids safe ? Or the idea of hurting Rhaenyra like she hurts/hurted her and her children ? Can she overcome her jealousy of her Rhae’s privilege like she did when she was a girl after all their complicated history ? The answer is no .
Alicent and her children’s relationship is hard because she is a single teen mom who was a traumatized child broodmare whose kids are the result of her marital rape .Alicent and Rhaenyra is complicated because their personalities clash and they have such a complicated history together that ,especially in the circumstances they are , can’t really be fixed .
One is clearly more genuine love than the other .

Her first 2 children had been for the stability of the realm, she had loved them vastly but her third child was to be just for her - she had wanted another babe to raise - she wanted to find comfort in her children and in the babe - she was quite lonely in the Red Keep as she was amicable with Rhaenyra but unable to fully reunite with Rhaenyra until this pregnancy which had brought them closer to one another. Alicent did not care for Rhaenyra’s children not being Laenor Velaryon’s as Rhaenyra had often come to her and prayed with her so that she may no longer be plagued with her illnesses and for her to be able to bring forth a healthy child once more.
Rhaenyra had come to Alicent’s birthing chambers when the hour turned grim and she weakened under the care of the Maesters - Viserys had been overwhelmed with grief that he was about lose yet another Queen to the battlefield that was the birthing chamber. Princess Rhaenyra held her hand as the maesters stood frantic in the room and Viserys pondered the future within the small council. The former hand Otto Hightower was said to have entered the Sept. from the dawn when Alicent’s labours started and prayed there until the end of her labours - 18 hours later, only stepping away for a bit to receive updates on his daughter and her health.
The young Prince Aegon II (5) and Princess Helaena (3) were brought to hug their mother when the maesters feared the worst - in those 18 hours Rhaneyra never left her side, pleading to her Gods that her friend would survive the battle that had taken her own mother almost a decade before. At long last, the babe was born to Alicent in the hour of the wolf, the babe was twice as small but more than twice as fierce as Helaena and Aegon had been - greeting the room with shouts and cries as Alicent lay on the bed grateful to have survived one more battle and grateful for the health of her son Aemond.
No egg was available to put in Aemond’s cradle, as the last of the eggs had gone to Princess Rhaenyra’s third son Joffrey Velaryon. The Targaryens had to hope that Syrax or Dreamfyre, who Helaena had just recently claimed in her trip to the dragonpit, would bring forth new eggs for future Targaryen children. Aegon has his Sunfyre, Helaena had claimed Dreamfyre, and both Rhaenyra’s sons Jacaerys (4) and Lucerys (2) had been able to hatch their eggs in the cradle. The hope was that Aemond would get one of the eggs that the she-dragons brought forth or that when he was older he would be able to claim one of the wild dragons in DragonStone.
Prince Aemond Targaryen was Queen Alicent’s most beloved child and grew up dutiful and quiet with a hunger for books. He was beautiful - his older nephews and Aegon had realized as they entered their teen years how other Alphas stared at Aemond who was sure to be an Omega and how they presented him with gifts. Aegon had his hands full with Helaena and Aemond, someone had to protect them as Viserys weakened and ignored his children in favor of Rhaenyra and her sons.
————————————————————————
Alpha Lucerys (18) had seen Alpha Aegon (21) pull his younger brother Omega Aemond (16) into his chambers from the corner and had sprinted down the hall to open the doors with a loud growl erupting from his throat. Aemond was his, even if he did not know it yet - and it was not proper that Aegon had taken him, a newly presented omega, to his rooms - brother or not.
“You know you can knock right? What if we had been naked ? ” Aegon said in the bored tone as he looked up from his desk. Aemond wide-eyed gaze stared at Lucerys from the chair next to Aegon and Lucerys looked him up and down checking to make sure not a single hair was out of place and not a button was undone, before he grabbed Aegon harshly and pushed him against the wall.
“Aegon - why would you say that?! Lucerys - are you okay?! Let him go! ” Aemond shouted - releasing distressed pheromones in response to Lucerys’ angry ones and Aegon’s rising anger.
“Aegon - I will duel you right now if you do not explain yourself ! Aemond should not be here - you dishonor him and put his reputation into question!“ Lucerys shouted as he pressed Aegon into the wall harsher. Aemond was attempting to push Lucerys away from Aegon which angered him even further - because why was Aemond trying to protect him? Did Aemond have feelings for Aegon? Lucerys would have to kill him if that was the case - Aemond was not allowed to have feelings for anyone but him.
“Lucerys - Aemond is MY brother and MY responsibility - this and he should not concern you” Aegon responded angrily as he shoved Lucerys back. Aemond quickly put himself between Lucerys and Aegon in an attempt to stop them from fighting once more. Only serving to anger Lucerys even more, but he refused to take another step because he knew Aemond would then trade blows with him in defense of Aegon and he packed a mean punch.
“But if you must know so bad why Aemond is in here! My mother has put together a tournament so that Aemond’s suitors may come to Kings Landing and present Aemond with gifts and so that they may court him! Aemond and I are going over the list of Alphas that I stole so that he may chose” Aegon all but yelled as Aemond pointedly looked at the ground.
“I had wanted to see who my mother had vetted for me - she had been corresponding for months with the head and heirs of houses in the Reach and in the North and in Dorne and who knows where. I would like to meet the Alphas” Aemond said quietly as Lucerys stared at him intensely and pondered on what was said. Aemond had actually wanted to meet other Alphas?? How dare Alicent focus on Aemond’s mating when Aegon and Helaena remained unbonded and free! Lucerys had thought he had more time. Aemond had made shy eye contact with Lucerys and Lucerys felt himself wanting to take Aemond on Arrax at the moment and fly to DragonStone and marry him in the Valyrian custom. There was no need for Aemond to meet new Alphas if Lucerys was here. No need for him to grace them with his time if him and Aemond had been companions since they were children. No need for other titles if Lucerys was Lord of the Tides and Aemond could inherit the Driftmark throne with him. No need if he could marry his Uncle and have more dragon riders with Aemond’s coloring and his features. Aemond who seeked him once they were done training, Aemond who seeked him when they were done with Septa classes, Aemond who read to him underneath the trees as he followed the older boy after breakfast, Aemond who seeked him after he presented.
Had his mother put him on the list? Rhaenyra knew of his secret infatuation with Aemond - since they were children - she had to have put him in on the list for the Omega.
Aegon smiled - which was enough trouble as he realized Lucerys had not expected Aemond to start courting as soon as he presented. Glancing at the list while Aemond and Lucerys seemed entranced in a staring contest and with harsh whispers as Lucerys demanded Aemond tell him who he thought was adequate. Truly Lucerys was to lose him if he couldn’t tell Aemond about his infatuation with him and stop acting like an overprotective brother - Aemond already had Aegon - he did not need another person trying to ‘brother’ him. He knew Lucerys intentions were not purely brotherly but also knew he would’ve put a stop to it if Aemond didn’t also have feelings for this Strong boy.
Scanning through the names, he saw both familiar ones and unfamiliar ones with ages and territories owned. His mother was a smart women, he reckoned. She had chosen not only Alphas close to Aemond’s age but also Alphas who could provide Aemond with the same lifestyle as he currently had. Opportunity to rise and bear children who will be heads of important houses and to be possibly happy. Frankly, he was happy his mother was focused on Aemond more than him or Helaena, he did not wish to marry and Helaena just wanted to run around the Keep and collect insects - they would be unhappy. He skimmed through another name and came to a shocking halt. He would’ve never expected that one to be on this list but it was the best offer possible.
“Hey Lucerys! You are on the list as well! It seems Rhaenyra had put you in consideration!” Aegon exclaimed as both Lucerys and Aemond turned to look at him. Slowly reddening, Lucerys sheepishly smiled at Aemond while Aemond turned as red as the raspberries he liked to eat. Aemond was a funny little brother - he would be tough and soft at the same time - you never knew which Aemond you would get. Aemond was fierce in the training yard but talk about feelings and he was blushing and crying - he sure loved his little brother and wow, their pale coloring really made them look rough when they reddened. Aegon let the words sink in to the boys in front of him before continuing his exclamation.
“Lucerys, I would like to - “ Aemond started but Aegon immediately interrupted - he refused to have Aemond confess before knowing of his other offers and meeting the other Alphas - he deserved to make the choice knowing it all.
“However, it seems not just one Velaryon boy is not on the list - Jacaerys and Joffrey are here as well!” Aegon all but shouted while smiling deviously at Lucerys whose face dropped immediately as anger consumed him once more.
“Brother you can be King Consort - it is the best offer - your children will be Kings! Rhaenyra has written that Jacaerys has had affection for you since you were claimed SilverWing”
Wow…Aegon did not think Jacaerys and Rhaenyra had it in him… Rhaenrya was smart for entering all three boys - she had not known which one Aemond had liked but knew if either one of them was chosen - their ascent to their inheritances would not be put into question with a royal omega by their side. He knew then that Rhaenyra had to have been rooting for Jace to win Aemond’s hand as it would support his claim to the throne and by extension Hers because quite a few houses were loyal to Otto Hightower and seeing his blood on the throne would keep him loyal. Aemond would help Jace more than Lucerys who could marry Rhaena and secure Driftmark. Lucerys, seemed to reach the same conclusion as he had, and released his angry pheromones so quick that Aemond who was still sensitive was cowering which was enough to have Aegon step in.
“Lucerys you need to leave my chambers and leave me and my brother - I have excused your rude entrance and putting your hands on me but if you keep scaring my brother - I will fight you” Aegon said seriously as he stepped in the middle of Aemond and Lucerys.
Lucerys took one last glance at Aemond and stormed out of Aegon’s rooms - most likely on his way to search for his mother and his brothers. Lucerys had fire pulsing in his veins - he would kill Jacaerys before he even got a chance to claim Aemond - should Aemond chose him.
Aemond would be his.

Hating the narrative that Rhaenyra was some horrible friend who never loved Alicent because she called her a “whore” in a deleted scene. Her best friend is marrying her father, of course she’s pissed and lashing out ?? And she’s like 15 ??? And her mother just died ??? Wtf is wrong with this fandom. “Oh well she should have seen it from Alicent’s perspective.” Yes, the 15yo who’s been raised in a violently misogynistic medieval society and groomed herself her entire life should have the same understanding of feminist theory as modern adult Twitter users. People are genuinely insane.
I already argued for how show!Rhaenyra wasn't actually an evil nor the worst actor of the two and against Alicent as some people try to say HERE. How it is their fathers and the patriarchal society around them that shapes them into the persons they respectively are ANd how they choose to respond to each other's actions and thoughts.
Rhaenyra bursting out that Alicent is a "whore" would figure into my words about Rhaenyra, by being in her late teens like Alicent AND Alicent/Viserys leaving her out of their interactions until announced -> thus not having the space or emotional bandwidth to be the perfect respondent to news of her best friend marrying her father and essentially replacing her dead mother. This is a problem of how much grace people allow for which person.
So we should all just ignore how Daemon hugged his daughters in the deleted scenes after Laena's death, how Jace agreed with Daemon concerning bringing the fight to the greens, how Baela said to Rhaenys they should fight for Rhaenyra and her son's rights to the throne and thus argue that none of these scenes matter to how we should consider various black characters morality or competence....but we should take the deleted scene of Rhaenyra calling Alicent a whore to evaluate show!Rhaenyra's moral character. What a bunch of hypocrisy that shows a green/anti-Rhaenyra stance, not to mention its sexism.
The things with Rhaenyra's outburst versus Alicent's saying "queer customs" and trying to use her Queen position against Rhaenyra to force her to confess to sleeping with Daemon are that:
Alicent & Rhaenyra were supposed to be long-time best friends who tell each other everything about themselves (bc that's how very strong female friendships work, esp the younger you are) -> if they actually did things like share secrets, share secret thoughts and emotions and reactions, actually agreed on some things spiritually and intellectually and emotionally and then traded ways to resist their fathers' wills and outsiders' treatment against them.....then it is very difficult to see why Alicent wouldn't at least try to say anything at all to Rhaenyra, or hint at it, about what Otto wants to do in each and every single interaction she has with Rhaenyra -> instead she implies that Rhaenyra should be obedient to Viserys' will even before the announcement...therefore, this relationship never made sense to characterize as "close" because these two seem to have never come to a place where they could say they were close & really understood some of each other's deepest desires
we also already know (or should know) that Alicent's position against Rhaenyra mainly comes from Otto's manipulation and desire to seat Aegon on the throne (as Alicent doesn't try to think of why Otto acted as he did about the virginity loss thing, which was what is revealed in Rhaenyra's comebacks against her thought process in their garden confrontation) AND overall Andal-Seven patriarchy compelling girls to chastity -> we know that Alicent is the one in the actual wrong and that she is coming from a false perspective...further proven by how she talks to and comes to that realization in episode 9 when she finally gets Aegon away from her father and says she never saw Otto for what he did and is

Also, that’s not a great description of HotD’s portrayal.  It’s Vin Scully syndrome - people are projecting their own preferences or antipathy.  I’ve seen as much meta accusing the show of promoting Alicent as the good one. While I like writers who trust their audience to pick up on stuff, like aSoI&F, HotD thinks if a character does something bad, the audience will register that and recognize the character as a bad person.  Like backhand his wife for calling him a wuss.  And yet, you can’t throw a rock on a fan site without hitting meta talking about Big Bobby B, and how awesome he is, and Joffrey is 100% Cersei’s fault, and she’s the reason why Joffrey has Sansa beaten, clearly she’s the only one he could have learned that from.
HotD shows Rhaenyra being impulsive and when a teen, supposedly preparing to rule, making decisions with her emotions (naming Cole to the KG over the advice of Otto to pick a knight from an important House), and rationalizing them (he’s from the Dornish Marches, he has more combat experience than most knights from major houses), and letting that set the pattern for her decisions.  During her courtship progress, she callously insults a boy suitor from House Blackwood, and when a Bracken joins the laughter and adds his own mockery, it ends in bloodshed, but Rhaenyra is already out the door looking to eat and run because she’s bored of the whole thing. She seduces Criston, in a scene with some dubious consent issues, and her getting off on the power dynamic is pretty clearly implied. She then lies to Alicent about it, leaning on their friendship to make her step-mother trust her denial and defend her to Viserys.  After coming to an accommodation with Laenor when they are betrothed, she insults Criston by suggesting he continue as her secret partner and refuses his offer to do the right thing.  She carries on her affair with Harwin, and the effects of that choice are shown to affect the kids, and that it’s not just harmless, behind-closed-doors, no one else’s business, we see repercussions and how it affects the stability of the court. We see how it upsets Rhaenys to see her son’s inheritance going to children she’s not in any way related to, and the betrothal of her sons to Daemon’s daughters is a Hail Mary to get the Velaryons back on side. We see how at Laena’s funeral, while Rhaenyra’s sons are also mourning Harwin, Rhaenys slights them to comfort her granddaughters.  Rhaenyra herself sends them to bed instead of comforting them, so she can go pursue the newly single Daemon.  While the children are fighting over Vhagar, Rhaenyra and Daemon are having sex on the beach to seal their new alliance. Rhaenrya explicitly says the line “questioned sharply” - it’s not just a paraphrase as in the story, in regard to her (still juvenile & played by a small actor) half-brother referencing the Strong paternity.  Alicent actually calls her out for doing her own thing and ignoring and dismissing all the rules everyone else has to follow whenever she feels like it.  She & Daemon respond to Laenor’s subsequent pledge to commit to their marriage and foreswear his other interests in order to be there for her and the boys, by arranging his faked death, because his commitment is inconvenient to their plans, and the show makes a point of letting us know that Corlys and Rhaenys are NOT in on the scam, and believe they’ve lost both their children within a few days.
If this is HotD’s “flawless perfect being” I’m a little afraid to see how they would depict a termagant or witch.
Y'know honestly ASOIAF really gives me the feels of ambiguity bc everyone in the story committed faults be it small or Big
Feel like the fandom or anyone besides the author just botch the stories in a way and split into sides
Like House of the Dragon for example, they tried to make Rhaenyra into this flawless, perfect being despite the fact how terrible she actually is
It's a natural tendency to simplify all things to a binary good-bad because it makes it easier to parse. But there are folks who attempt to write good meta blasting the tendency to reduce everything to a binary. When Princess and the Queen first came out, the discourse was fairly one-sided with the idea of Saint Rhaenyra, but now there's a wealth of essays talking about Rhaenyra's manifest unfitness for the position and her horrible policy decisions. The idea that "Rhaenyra may not have been deserved to be passed over due to her sex, but she was an absolutely terrible monarch" isn't unfamiliar. There's still plenty of bad meta, but you'll see that in any fandom.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

AU for the ppl who ship alicole because i thought this was kinda cute: viserys and alicent are divorced for like two years now and the first year was hard because alicent mostly spent it in court arguing against her husband who’s somewhat more rich but most importantly knows people in high places (dragons, lol) and he was prideful about the way they parted.
she was also dealing with her dad who was being awful because alicent was choosing to walk away from this marriage.
the kids are teens by now and cole has been alicent’s and her kids’ bodyguard while she was married with viserys but now he’s not anymore. but since he was the closest father figure the kids ever had because viserys barely even pretended to care anymore, they’re having a hard time letting it go. they have to eventually and alicent is trying her best to live her life as a single mother.
she has enough money to hire a woman to look after the children from time to time, but she still has to do a lot to handle four children alone.
eventually when she’s out with the kids one time they bump into criston cole and criston insists that they meet again for coffee sometimes. alicent says “i’m not sure” and aemond and daeron are nodding their heads at her.
she agrees and the kids know this is gonna be somewhat of a date even though they know their mother would insist this is just a meeting between two friends because she thinks she has a responsability not to recklessly date when she’s a mother of 4. the children, however, start saying and doing things to encourage her to go on dates with criston and basically let her know that they’d be okay with it.

Note
People act like parent-child relationships are super simple when Alicent is involved.
1) Otto:
Bit of a tangent but in my country (Spith Africa) when you're in grade 9 you u choose your subjects for grade 10 and maths is a must however you can choose which maths uore doing maths literacy or maths core. People who arent the best at maths should do maths literacy but you come across do many who choose maths core and other subjects they hate/have extreme difficulty with/zero interest in because of parental influence. They don't want to disappoint their parents and go against their wishes.
Now back to the show Otto tells Alicent to endear herself to Viserys in order to become queen. Otto is her father, ultimately he has a say in who she marries. She lives with him. We also see she struggles with anxiety. How exactly will she stand up to him in an epic girl boss move, in a medieval setting, when people these days struggle to do so with their own parents. It's not easy to go against your parents wishes and its especially not easy to disappoint them. What would Otto have done if she refused? If he was willing to pimp her out yo a man old enough to be her father, who basically killed his first wife would he sell her to a Ramsay Bolton type if it benefited him? Better the devil you know right?
2) her children.
Alicent was a child herself when she was forced to have them. She had to grow up fast and we see her struggle with anxiety and PPD, she has little to no support system around. The servants are there to assist but its their job. She has no one to looking out for her mental wellbeing. She is isolated and trapped in a golden cage by a dragon.
With Aegon she struggles with him because he shirks his duties and doesn't take anything seriously when his situation is a matter of life and death. She is scared for him and the others but he doesn't get it. People were calling Ned an idiot for nor securing his family's safety before working against Cersei but when Alicent does exactly that she's an awful mom.
When she tells Aegon he is not her son she is struggling to reconcile the image of her little that she raised on her own, the boy she tried to impart wisdom on with someone who would commit a monstrous act, something his (absent) father did to her. But she still loves him. She might not always like him but she was willing to stand between him and a literal dragon. Everything she has done has been for him and his siblings.
Helaena
One thing I find interesting and tragic about this relationship is that Alicent's main love languagea are acts of service and physical touch.(acts of service is her trying to keep the family together and securing peoples positions and safety. Physical touch in moments where words have failed her) She used it Rhaenrya alot when they were younger and she tries to use it on her children. Helaena has a touch aversion so we see her pulling away from her touch. (Which is why thstvone scene they actually hug is so beautiful)
Alicent nevertheless tries a different method, whole spending time together she asks Helaena about bugs. Yes she looks bored because the topic doesn't interest her but she is trying to engage with her(as someone who hyperfixtates then infodumps, this is enough. "Thank you for letting me vent about this even if you don't care about it" cause it shows that you at the care about me)
Aemond is her dutiful son who does his absolute best. She was distraught when he lost an eye and we see him return her physical gestures when she needs comfort.
Her love for her children is unconditional. She would do anything for them no matter what. She's not a perfect mom, but what parent is 100% perfect, but for a single teen mother of three, whose children's lives are constantly at stake she has done a damn good job.
Thank for furthering the Alicent agenda, chaotic coffee queen. We need brave soldiers out there fighting on the frontlines!
I agree with everything you said above. People have so much energy for hating Alicent as a mother, yet so very little for hating Viserys as a father. He is a footnote in his own family, yet viewers act as if his negligence couldn't possibly amount to behavioural issues in his own children or that Alicent should have somehow made up for it. As if anyone could erase parental abandonment.
One thing I find interesting and tragic about this relationship is that Alicent's main love languagea are acts of service and physical touch.(acts of service is her trying to keep the family together and securing peoples positions and safety. Physical touch in moments where words have failed her)
^^^ This. Alicent is bone-weary and has trouble expressing her emotions, especially in a way that gets through to her children. Each of them is so different from the other and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. It's hard for her to calibrate her strategies to perfectly tailor every member of her family, as she doesn't have access to the kind of resources we now have for child development.

Game of Thrones Legacy Challenge
Because I love legacy challenges, and I love killing sims, I thought the perfect, fantastical hybrid would be of the Game of Thrones variety. I take inspiration from the books/series, but I change a lot to make for a more satisfying sims-ified generational story. After all, now these great houses are all a related family tree, not competing for power in the same land. So many things will be different, deal with it, don’t @ me.
Okay, into the GoT Legacy challenge.
Base rules:
Every heir must do the political career (AKA King) unless stated otherwise
You have to go through with planned deaths
You must change castle color schemes for each main house
Cheating is allowed to get the intended children
Each child must max one toddler skill and one child aspiration
Asha Greyjoy
After her parents died, Asha did anything to keep her and her siblings afloat. She sold family heirlooms, downsized land, and became a criminal of the high seas. But, now that her siblings have grown, Asha grows tired of defaming her family name. Settling down in what remains of the Greyjoy Manor,  Asha sets out to create a dynasty of her own. However, they’re taking that whole family motto (“We Do Not Sow”) pretty seriously. While they do still work odd jobs as a petty criminal, she keeps insisting she’s doing it for the right reasons. Asha wants to make the world a better place than her ancestors did... But she wants to do it in a fast-track kind of way and decides to rise up in the world by marrying a wealthy spouse.
So her new legacy begins.
Asha’s Traits: Gloomy, Outgoing, Good (At heart)
Asha must max out the fishing aspiration
Asha must mount at least 10 fish to her walls
Asha must have at least 3 sons
Asha must have a live-in maid to help with children
Asha must build an opulent castle with her riches (or appropriate the Baratheon Castle I built on the gallery (The_SpaceBard)
You must choose if Asha will quit her criminal career and devote herself to her rowdy children and repairing her lackluster marriage, or stay in the criminal career, take a lover, and have a illegitimate child that her spouse casts out
Robert Baratheon
Leading is hard for Robert Baratheon, particularly with his brother, Stannis, always on his heels. Stannis thinks he’s the better leader, but he respects Robert’s claim to heir. But, despite their uneasy peace, it's always created this unspoken rivalry between the two.
Robert taking everything Stannis ever wants, though, doesn’t help.
When Robert becomes of age, he takes over as head of house. But along with it, he takes Stannis’ high school sweetheart. Will the two find a way to reconcile or will Stannis’ jealousy rip the two (and perhaps the entire kingdom) apart?
Robert’s Traits: Glutton, Slob, Good
Stannis’ Traits: Good, Ambitious, Jealous
Renley’s Traits: Outgoing, Romantic, Active
Renley must die on his young adult birthday
Stannis must have a teen pregnancy resulting in one child: Shireen
Robert must steal Stannis’ partner
Robert must have at least 4 children with said partner: Brandon, Lyanna, Eddard, Benjen
Robert must max out charisma
Robert must die once all his children born
Stannis must join the detective career
You must choose of Stannis forgives his long-lost-beloved and raises his daughter and her children as family or if he sets his wife and daughter on fire and is executed for it
Ned Stark
After the internal bickering of his father and uncle that left the family in ruin, Robert’s children are all too aware of what power can do to their family. Disillusioned with ruling, Brandon leaves the house to his siblings, never to be seen again.
While that leaves Lyanna heir, she’s uninterested in leadership and Eddard (AKA Ned) takes charge. Renaming his family the Starks, he sets out to focus on family first, not power.
Tragedy still strikes, however, over and over until he finds himself the final Stark standing. Things only start looking up when he falls in love and creates a family of his own.
He raises 6 strong children (including the baby of his sister, Lyanna). Though he does not seize more power in his lifetime, he couldn’t be prouder.
Brandon’s Traits: Good, Self-Assured, Hot-Headed
Ned’s Traits: Family-Oriented, Good, Neat
Lyanna Traits: Romantic, Loves the Outdoors, Music Lover
Benjen’s Traits: Loner, Good, Gloomy
Brandon must start the Leader of the Pack aspiration
Brandon must “go missing” when he becomes a young adult (Feel free to get creative, but I will be locking him in a dungeon below)
Benjen must freeze to death
Lyanna must have a teen pregnancy with a much older man
Lyanna must die after giving birth to a son: Jon (can cheat gender)
Ned must marry a jealous redhead
After all his siblings are dead, Ned has five children in rapid succession: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon
You must choose if Ned will raise Jon as a son or as a servant
Sansa Stark
Unlike generations before, and much like Ned hoped, the second Starks did not grow up coveting each other’s talents or responsibilities. Jon dreamed of becoming a simple hunter, Sansa wanted to be a princess, Arya wanted to be an athlete, Bran wanted to be a scholar, and Rickon wanted to be a baker. Every Stark left the house to become their own person, save Robb, Sansa, and Jon. They figured they could maintain their kingdom on their own.
That is, until Robb tragically, suddenly dies and it's up to Sansa to take up the mantle. As a child she just wanted to be a pretty princess and wife, but can she step up and become a queen?
Jon’s Traits: Loner, Dog Lover, Loves The Outdoors
Robb’s Traits: Insider, Outgoing, Self-Absorbed (Or Self-Assured, if you don’t have Get Famous)
Sansa’s Traits: Genius, Materialistic, Ambitious
Arya’s Traits: Active, Hot-Headed, Noncommittal
Rickon’s Traits: Cheerful, Foodie, Squeamish
Bran’s Traits: Gloomy, Bookworm, Unflirty
Robb must start a “Winterfell” club
All Stark children (except Robb, Sansa, and Jon) must leave the castle once they become young adults. That can be for school, romance, death, etc.
Except Robb. Robb MUST die at his own wedding
When Robb dies, Jon gets a dog
Sansa must have 3 children: Rhaegar, Viserys, and Danaerys (Dani, if your fingers don’t want to deal with typing it out). Sansa must have Rhaegar early on and Viserys and Dani much later
You must choose if Sansa dies alongside her son, Rhaegar, in the same tragedy or deliberately gets him killed herself for his abandonment and neglect
Dani Targaryen
Watching the Stark house almost collapse because of all the children going off to do their own things, Rhaegar wanted to whip the house back into shape under a new name: House Targaryen. Ambitious and determined (and a little unhinged), the dragon-like siblings wanted to reclaim glory for their mother who held the castle together in its darkest hours.
That is, until Rhaegar runs off with a pretty young thing and shirks all his duties.
Dani quickly takes over, despite the fact her brother Viserys is always looking over her shoulder and trying to enforce his whims without doing any of the work. Dani will not let bad seeds get in the way of her family legacy, though, no matter the cost
Rhaegar’s Traits: Kleptomaniac, Music Lover, Noncommittal
Viserys’ Traits: Mean, Ambitious, Hot-Headed
Dani’s Traits: Cat Lover, Hot-Headed or Erratic, Genius
Rhaegar must max out the violin skill
Rhaegar must get married, divorce, and remarry a much younger woman
Viserys must turn into a vampire and burn to death
Dani must marry and become a widower within the week
Dani must max out her Debate and Charisma skills
Dani must have 3 very territorial cats and one (possibly adopted) child: Lysa
Dani must extend her life as much as possible
You must choose if Dani will have an illicit affair with an extended family member (descendent of Asha’s illegitimate child/Renley, descendant of Shireen, descendant of the Stark children who left) to produce Lysa or have three more dead spouses, none of which give her a child
Lysa Tully
Lysa grew up with the breaker of chains, the mother of dragon-like cats, the most famous ruler in recent history. She made mountains move with a single word.
It’s not Dani’s fault she didn’t have much time for Lysa. She was making the world better for everyone, including her daughter. And that didn’t affect Lysa much, not really, she just is a little clingy... and stressed out... and just desperately wants to start her own family.
But will a family of her own ever fill the empty space in her heart?
Lysa’s Traits: Paranoid, Family-Oriented, Erratic
Lysa must have only one son: Robin
Robin’s other parent must die
Lysa must have no skills over level 1 other than parenting
Lysa must get fired from politics, leaving Dani to still rule until her great-granddaughter is of age
Lysa must max out the Super Parent aspiration
Lysa’s only close friend is her son
You must decide if Lysa becomes a single parent for life or she’ll find love again
Robin Arryn
Robin’s mother, Lysa, was clingy. It overwhelmed Robin his entire life, especially living in such a large castle with one lonely, overbearing woman following him constantly. He loved her dearly, particularly since he knows how... distant his grandmother can be. But Robin is desperate for breathing room and to make his own mark on their legacy
He was a delicate, uncoordinated child who needed and appreciated the extra hand from Lysa, but now as an adult, Robin just wants to bring color and joy back into the castle. And, in turn, to the people of their kingdom
Robin’s Traits: Squeamish, Creative, Clumsy
Robin must become Lysa’s best friend (until he becomes an adult and marries)
Robin must marry young to a local villager with similar features to his mother
Robin must have two children: Margaery and Loras
Robin must max out the painter and piano skills
Robin must litter the castle with masterpieces ONLY
Margaery Tyrell
Margaery grew up in a complicated home, with two elderly matriarchs running the kingdom. Grandma Lysa was never quite queen material, and Margaery was disgusted with her for it. She identified more with her great-grandmother, the infinite Queen Dani, a cunning dragoness of a ruler.
Growing up idolizing her queen, adoring her father, and sharing everything with her brother, Margaery always felt she was being groomed to be a well-rounded, beloved queen in her own right. When Queen Dani finally passes on, Margaery is sure she will be the monarch Dani always meant her to be. But will she live up to her own expectations?
Margaery’s Traits: Cheerful, Genius, Outgoing
Loras’s Traits: Active, Romantic, Freegan
Young Margaery must be close to Dani until she dies, but hates Lysa
Margaery must take the throne when Dani dies
Margaery must have three children: Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion
Margaery’s partner must hate Tyrion
Margaery’s partner must also be romantically involved with Loras
You must decide if Margaery or Loras get to have a happily ever after once Tyrion is born. The other must die tragically
Cersei/Tyrion Lannister
The Lannister children grew up knowing that the family and their legacy comes first. But perhaps they took that a tad too literally.
Cersei, the eldest daughter of Queen Margaery, was proud to be the next beautiful woman leading their dynasty. But unlike her foremothers, Cersei refused to take a spouse. She insisted to the kingdom that she does not need a marriage to be great.
Though, her growing brood of golden blonde children is a little confusing for the villagers. Unbeknownst to the people, their second parent is not her noble suitor that she keeps around for appearances, but her twin brother. If their secret is ever discovered, her reign might be doomed and their nosy, judgmental, annoyingly intelligent younger brother may be forced to be the king he never wanted to be.
Tyrion’s Traits: Genius, Good, Gloomy
Cersei’s Traits: Mean, Creative, Ambitious
Jaime’s Traits: Active, Good, Romantic
Cersei must have a “beard” aka a cover romance for her true soulmate situation
Jaime and Cersei must have an illicit relationship since their teenage years and have children together
Cersei must have 4 children: Joffrey, Myrcella, Tommen, Tywin
Joffrey’s Traits: Evil, Mean; Myrcella’s Trait: Creative Tommen’s Trait: Cheerful
Joffrey must die as a teen
The other two Lannister “Purebloods” must get taken away by authorities before they reach their teen years (the fourth one must be taken as an infant)
Once her children are gone, Cersei will die
Once all his nephews/nieces are gone, Tyrion will adopt 2 boys: Doran and Oberyn
You must decide if Jaime comes to his senses and helps run the kingdom with Tyrion or dies with Cersei
Doran and Oberyn Martell
Raised to be the best they can be, Doran and Oberyn were pitted against each other far too often. It created a rivalry between the two that grew insidious over the years. After decades of chaos, clashing ideologies, and lots and lots of death, both men wanted to bring the kingdom into an age of glory. They grew tired of all the broken relationships and want their house to come back together and stay strong. However, they both want to do it very differently. Doran wants to promote education, peace, and humanitarianism. Oberyn prefers expansion, freedom, and nationalism.
The two tolerated each other out of brotherly love, but when their father dies and the crown falls to them, who will lead the kingdom to greatness?
Doran’s Traits: Bookworm, Perfectionist, Self-Assured
Oberyn’s Traits: Romantic, Outgoing, Hot-Headed
Both children must be close to their adoptive father, Tyrion
Doran must max out Logic, Wellness, and Writing
Oberyn must max out Charisma, Singing, and Fitness
Doran and Oberyn must compete at least 10 times over their lifetime (Chess, Fighting, Lottery, Dance fight, Card game, Foosball, Horseshoe game). Have the siblings keep track (trophies, sad clowns, scoreboards, your pick)
They must invite 3 long-lost family members to the castle
You must decide if the intellectual Doran or the charismatic Oberyn leads the castle into a new era; the other must die by public execution
If you decide to play, please tell me! I’ll be doing a YouTube series following my own adventures in the challenge so I’d love to see what you guys do with it.

Tumblr media
Waking up the next morning was less of a struggle when you saw a text from Robb just saying ‘good morning’ and that he was looking forward to the Battle of the Bands festival today. The weather woman on your tv went on about how warm it would be today, and she was also excited for the Battle of the Bands.
For once the weather woman was right. You stuck your hand out a window letting it catch the sun’s warmth. It was going to be a lovely day. You slipped on shorts, a cut-up band t-shirt, and sneakers. It would suffice for spending all day at a music festival.
You almost took your car keys when you remembered that you had a city bus pass. What better way to start your article than to see other people get excited for the event itself? You left your car keys at home, and headed straight for the bus stop. Families with kids in AC/DC t-shirts and girls with flower crowns made you smile. The bus was filled with people all going to the city festival. You turned to see a young boy adjusting his baseball cap. You looked towards his parents who were occupied with his little sister, but you caught the mother’s eye.
“Hi! Sorry to bother you,” you glanced back at her son. “I’m a writer for The Scene. I was wondering if I could ask your son some questions about Battle of the Bands?”
The mother smiled and nodded. “Of course! Dominic, she would like to ask you some questions.” The mother put her son in front of you. Dominic sat down in a bus seat, and you kneeled in front of him, balancing on your feet as the bus moved forward.
“Hi Dominic, are you excited for today?” you asked the child. He nodded, keeping his eyes on you.
“Tell her who we’re going to see,” the mother nudged him. The little boy smiled and shied away from you.
“Ah, come on, you can tell me,” you said, smiling. Dominic looked down, still smiling.
“Blackfyre,” he said, in an almost whisper. “I like them a lot.”
“His father is a fan of theirs. He played Blackfyre in front of Dominic so much that Dominic started to love them,” she told you. You wrote down quick notes for yourself. The mother went on. “I even caught him shredding the guitar to one of their songs.”
“Oh really? Do you wanna be a rockstar when you grow up?”
“Yeah!” Dominic shouted with excitement. His hands raised up in the air as if he was on a roller coaster. You stood up from your spot as the bus slowed down.
“Thank you so much. I got what I need,” you nodded to the mother once more before you hopped off the bus. You put away your notebook and continued down the downtown street. First, Margie. Then Battle. This was going to be a busy first day.
Margaery finished off her second mimosa of the day and knocked on the bar. “Another!”
“I’ll cut you off if you don’t slow down!” Loras immediately called out to her. Margie rolled her eyes and put her focus back on you.
“Blackfyre huh?” she recalled. “That’s Viserys Targaryen’s band. He’s really good.”
“Yeah? Think he may win the battle?” you scooped up a breakfast taco filled with eggs and sausage. “He actually might,” Margie nodded seriously. “His band reminds a lot of the adults of their classic rock days, but he has a reach on their younger teens. He’s a good looking guy with a lot of talent.”
“I’ll keep an eye on him,” you said, taking another bite. “What the fuck is in these tacos? They’re like crack.”
“I know,” Margie said, eyes wide on her own breakfast. She looked towards her brother and then back to you. “Do you want to do me a favor?”
“What kind of favor?” you asked, knowing fully well this meant trouble for you.
Margie shot a look towards her brother. “It’s about Renly.”
“What? You want me to spy on him? Like we used to do on the internet?” you chuckled. Margie almost spat out her drink. Remembering your long distance internet days brought back joyful memories of you searching and stalking Margie’s love interests. You dug so hard into one of their social media profile’s that you found their SAT score. Margie was so impressed that she almost hired you to do more private investigative work.
“Yes, but no,” Margie beckoned for you to come closer, obviously not wanting her brother to hear. “Loras really needs this. He’s been lonely and depressed. Maybe encourage Renly to hang with Loras sometime? I don’t know. I don’t want to push him into a relationship, but he needs something. Someone. Does that make sense?”
“Yeah,” you nodded. “I’ll see Renly today. Along with Robb.”
“The cute boss?” Margie gushed. “You’re gonna flirt with him, right?”
“What if he has a girlfriend?”
“What if he doesn’t?” Margie winked. “Flirt with him and then tell me about it.” It wouldn’t matter what you argued with Margaery, you wanted to flirt with him anyways. Once you stepped into the festival, you were grateful for your heat-friendly outfit.
The festival had several booths up front. Some where you could play games to win small prizes, others were advertising their local businesses. You recognized a young man standing in line at a booth to the side. You squinted to see his slender form, sunglasses, and his hands in his pockets while talking to another person beside him.
“Renly? Renly Baratheon?” you called out. The young man turned around to see you. He smiled and beckoned for you to come over.
“Hi! I’ve seen you in the office. Heard you got my assignment, yeah?” Renly smiled. He extended his hand out for you to shake. You gladly took it.
“I did, yes.” You looked beside Renly and recognized his conversation partner. “Hi, Robb.”
“Hey! You made it. Welcome to Battle of the Bands,” Robb looked ahead of the line. “I was trying to get everyone’s press badges, but it seems they’re really short staffed this year.”
“That’s unfortunate,” you commented seeing the long line ahead of you. “Why do you think that is?”
Robb frowned and scratched the back of his neck. He shared one look with Renly and turned to you. “There was an incident last year. Someone on staff was harassed and it made news. People have been hesitant to join festival staff and press after that. I’m honestly lucky to have you here.”
Robb gave you a grateful smile and you returned it right back to him.
“I’m glad you gave me this opportunity,” you returned the compliment. The line moved forward much more, but you continued the conversation. “So, I hear you’re playing in the Battle this year.”
“I am,” Renly started off. “Stag Knight is ready to go.”
“Stag Knight?”
“A play off my family’s tradition and name.” Renly wore a confident smile on his face. “It’s a nod to my ancestors who were excellent hunters, but I don’t believe in hurting animals myself.”
“You’re a vegetarian?” you smiled, thinking ahead two steps. Renly nodded, patting his sack.
“I’ve got loads of my snacks in here today. If you need any water, come stop by, we’ll have lots,” Renly said.
“Well, I know I’m new to the city, but there’s this great taco place that serves amazing vegetarian friendly tacos—
“Sunspot!” Renly cut you off. “I love that place!”
“I happen to know one of the bartenders there,” you added. “Loras is so much fun.”
“Loras?” Renly thought. “The cute guy with curls? He always seemed so shy to me.” You held in your excitement at his comment and continued.
“He’s really not. He’s so much fun. We should all hang out sometime!” There it was, your move. Renly nodded and turned to Robb.
“That sounds like fun! We should.” Bingo. Margie had always commended you on how you played your social chess. Sometimes, she would claim you were better than her. You weren’t sure of that, but you knew you were going to get credit for this somehow.
Once you got your press badge, Renly parted ways with you and Robb. He trotted off quickly to rehearse before going on stage later that day. Robb put his badge over his head and looked at the schedule.
“So, who do we go to first?”
“Well,” you pulled out your notes. “I interviewed a little boy on the bus who was excited to see Blackfyre.”
“Ah, Viserys,” Robb chuckled. “Arrogant cock.” You took a step back.
“A what?”
“He’s…not terribly nice,” Robb walked with you through the festival. You heard alternative rock from one side of you. A crowd of people held their phones up to record. “He’s had a taste of success already. He’s talented, but it’s gone to his head. Maybe it’s best to stay away from him for now.”
“Oh okay,” you looked down, feeling dejected. Robb patted your back.
“It’s not that I don’t want you to follow this lead or that I don’t trust you,” Robb smiled. “I just don’t want you to go interview him and come back in tears.”
“He’s that bad?” you responded.
Robb shrugged. “Some say he is, some say differently. I just want to be cautious. I don’t want to lose a good writer on the first day.” You smiled, feeling the warmth of the compliment.
Robb pointed to a pub on the corner of the street, a bit away from the festival. Both of you crossed the street and entered inside the Irish-themed pub. Inside, there was no leprechauns or four-leaf clovers. Instead, there was old pictures of Ireland, showcasing ancestors and family trees. The Ireland flag hung proudly. You feel the cool air of the air conditioning, and you silently thanked Robb for saving you from the heat.
People spoke silently while they drank their pints. Other listened intently to the musician on the small stage. A guitar played a slow beat beautifully. Your eyes wandered to the artist. He wore boots and jeans. His flannel shirt was open to reveal his white tank underneath. It fit him tight. A shadow of a beard looked good on his face. His curls were much darker than Robb’s. Then the idea clicked.
“This is my half-brother, Jon,” Robb whispered. “I thought he would be a great first interview for you. And vice versa.” You inched forward and found a seat near the stage. Jon’s voice was a low and slow harmony. You listened intently to the lyrics.
“I’m a cowboy on a steel horse I ride I’m wanted, dead or alive.”
“Bon Jovi,” you smiled, nodding along. “I’ve never heard him like this before.”
“Jon’s good for that,” Robb smiled proudly. “He has the talent I wish I had. He doesn’t do big audiences. He likes it small like this.” Jon kept singing. His voice belted out the last few lyrics. Once he finished, the crowd in the pub applauded loudly for him. A few stood up and gave him whoops of joy. Jon smiled and nodded ‘thank yous’ to where he could until his eyes fell to you.
You watched his heart skip a beat, and you couldn’t hide your own blush rushing to your cheeks. Jon was adorable, and you hadn’t spoken a single word to him yet. You wanted to slap yourself in the face. If Robb was attractive, of course his brother would be just as attractive. Duh. Jon walked down from the stage and walked towards your table with Robb.
“Good job!” Robb embraced Jon. He patted him on the back and then turned to you. “This is Y/N. She’s taking over for Renly this year.” Jon sheepishly smiled at you.
“It’s nice to meet you,” he nodded.
“I’ll grab some drinks, yeah?” Robb offered. “Pints?” When both of you nodded, Robb took off to the bar while you and Jon sat down.
“So, are you going to interview me?” Jon said. He bit his lower lip.
“Don’t worry, I won’t ask hard questions,” you wanted to reach out to his hand and touch him to reassure him. He seemed so scared of you. “Robb told me how talented you are, and I agree with him. Why aren’t you playing out there with the rest of the bands?”
“I don’t like big crowds.” Jon took another look outside. “And it’s hot out there.” You laughed once at his joke and quickly wrote it down.
“You’re funny, but you sing really serious music.”
“I prefer classic rock,” Jon told you. “I write my own music and preform that sometimes, but I want to be taken seriously.”
“You write your own music?”
“I do,” Jon’s hand massaged the back of his neck. “I don’t perform it that much. I don’t think it’s that good.”
“I heard you up there. I think you’re great!” You smiled at him. Jon seemed to be a gentle soul. You watched his smile grow on his face. A pint was placed in front of you. Robb sat down between you both.
“How’s it going?” Robb asked.
“You were right,” Jon spoke before you. “She’s really nice.” You sighed and looked at Robb. “You told him about me?”
“I did,” Robb shrugged. “I told him that a pretty nice girl was going to interview him today and he agreed to it.” Jon shook his head.
“No, you said that a very pretty and a very nice girl was going to interview me,” Jon corrected. Your eyes immediately watched Robb for his reaction. His eyes narrowed at his brother, but then softened towards you.
“You think I’m pretty?” you smugly smiled. Robb cleared his throat.
“Just interview him and you,” Robb pointed at Jon. “Don’t be stupid.” Without as much as a goodbye, Robb left the pub, leaving you and Jon alone.
“He thinks I’m pretty?” you asked Jon. Both of you started to laugh. Jon stopped laughing first and looked at you.
“He was right though. You are pretty. And nice. You are very nice,” Jon almost stumbled over his words. You couldn’t help but smile at him. The interview continued. You asked Jon more questions about him, his music, and who he would like to see win.
“Renly and Stag Knight,” Jon answered.
“Not yourself?” you asked, keeping the back of the pen near your mouth. Jon shook his head.
“No, I think Renly and his friends deserve it more. I just like doing music. I don’t need to win anything.” You felt your heart swell. Jon was so selfless that you wanted him to do nothing but hand puppies to other people. Because of course that’s a career that selfless people should do. Hand puppies to people and make them happy.
“Thank you, Jon.” You closed your notebook. “I got everything I need.”
“Good.” Jon watched you stand up from your spot and began speaking again. “Robb told me you’re new to town.”
“I am, yeah,” you nodded.
“Do you wanna stick around? Maybe have another pint? Couldn’t hurt to make more friends?” Jon’s fingers played with the pint glass in his hand. His smile was more genuine than any smile you’d ever seen. You glanced at your phone and sighed.
“I really wish I could, but I am on assignment. I need to write up this interview for the website,” you frowned at him. You wish you could spend more time with Jon. After interviewing him, you realized how much he loved music and only wanted to play it for people to listen, not to be popular.
“It’s alright. I understand. Working for my brother can be hard sometimes,” Jon led you to the door. “Just let me know if he’s a hardass on you, ok?”
You nodded. Before you could officially say goodbye to him, Jon unlocked his parked car on the curb.
“You’re gonna give me a ride?” you asked. “You just met me.”
“I know,” Jon continued. “My mother, well, Cat’s not really my mom, but she taught me to be polite always. Now, you could walk back to your office, or you can jump in here, avoid the heat, and get to your office faster.” The choice was obvious. You jumped in Jon’s car and he drove you a mere ten minutes back to the headquarters.
Once you sat at your desk and had your notes open, you realized you never left your number with Jon. He had been so kind to you and so genuine. You groaned loudly as your hands melted into your face. How could you be so stupid?
You sighed once more and started typing the article for The Scene website. There was one thing you could do for Jon. You could make him known and give him the recognition he really deserved. Halfway through the article you wrote another memo for yourself.
Give your damn number to guys who call you pretty and mean it.

Note
Actually in trying to conceive of a scenario where by say 298 AC all major regions of Westeros are ruled by women, I think you’d have to do something like the following:
House Stark:
Rickard dies of natural causes in his early forties. Brandon is killed in an accident of some sort (hunting, jousting, horse racing, etc). Ned has already been betrothed to an heir Catelyn and willingly renounced his claim on Winterfell. Benjen joins the NW. The northern lords are forced to accept Lyanna as the sole Stark in Winterfell. She delays marrying in order to not be usurped by her husband.
House Tully: Edmure does not survive long after his birth and Minisa dies a few years later. Hoster accepts Catelyn as his heir and arranges for her to marry Ned.
House Baratheon: Stannis and baby Renly accompanied their parents to Essos and all were drowned on the return trip. Grief stricken Robert drinks himself to death several years later leaving behind a single acknowledged bastard daughter, Mya. The girl’s commoner mother is paid off and it’s publicly put out that she was the child of a minor nobility lady. Mya is legitimized and raised as Lady Baratheon, as the house did start with a bastard.
House Lannister: Joanna dies during childbirth, as does Jaime. Cersei survives and Tywin refuses to remarry. Just when it seems he might be considering changing his mind he dies suddenly, maybe of a heart attack like his father, or of illness. His siblings champion young Cersei as his successor.
House Tyrell: Actually instead of infant Margaery inheriting, Mace dies young, before he has any children. His sister Mina renounces her claim as she has wed Lord Redwyne, and so the youngest, Janna, inherits and rules as Lady Tyrell.
House Greyjoy: Balon and all his sons save Theon are killed during his rebellion. Theon is sent to the Wall by the Iron Throne. Asha is declared ruler of Pyke and all the isles.
House Arryn: Elbert Arryn dies of natural causes, as does Denys Arryn, leaving behind his infant daughter, who survives to be Lady Arryn. Jon raises her until his own death when she is in her teens.
House Targaryen: Rhaegar and Aerys are struck down by the same illness shortly after Elia has Rhaenys. While most expect Viserys to be declared king, Rhaella and Elia champion Rhaenys’ claim.
House Martell: Everything proceeds as normal, Arianne is heir by law from the start as the eldest child.
What do you think would change for women rulers in westros if all lord paramount heirs were woman, and the crown only had a woman too?
Would be a wild scenario where some cataclysmic event happened in the early 280s AC that left Lyanna as Lady of Winterfell, Cersei as Lady of Casterly Rock, Catelyn as Lady of Riverrun, Denys Arryn’s infant daughter as Lady of the Eyrie, Asha as Lady of Pyke, infant Margaery as Lady of Highgarden, Arianne as Princess of Dorne, a legitimized Mya as Lady Baratheon, and Elia as regent for Rhaenys.
I assume while it wouldn’t change everyday sexism it would leave a lasting impact of women as more widely accepted leaders.

Catelyn raised five children & they ALL turned out to be good people. She was an infinitely better parent than Alicent ever was, there’s just no comparison.
Meanwhile, Alicent gave her sons every possible social and political advantage growing up, but never bothered to discipline them in any way or teach them how to lead effectively, with the result that Aegon II and Aemond grew into, respectively, a lazy, incompetent, unlikable, and gluttonous sex pest and a psychotically violent and bloodthirsty mass murderer who murdered his nephew the first chance he got, destroying any chance of a peace treaty between the two warring factions and leading the Blacks to (rightfully) retaliate in similar fashion. Aemond slaughtered the entirety of House Strong (including the children) under the mere suspicion of one of them being a traitor, nearly strangled a squire who brought him news that displeased him, and used Vhagar to reduce the Riverlands to smoking piles of ash. Her father, brothers, daughter, two other sons, and grandsons were all killed, but Aegon II survived, fed Rhaenyra to his dragon, and claimed the Iron Throne... and he proceeded to accomplish absolutely nothing and would rule for less than a year before he was fatally poisoned by his own supporters (after he decided to go along with HER suggestion to mutilate the young Aegon III, rather than stand down in the face of an enemy army he had no hope of defeating), making the death of every single Hightower for naught. In the end, Alicent did everything in her power to make her son a king, but it meant nothing because she didn’t raise him to be a man worthy of a crown.

alicent is only similar to cate because they're both highborn women fighting for the rights of their children relying mostly on their wits. you've just sent the same long detailed ask about how much you hate alicent. we get it, you hate alicent, aegon and aemond. do you need me to validate your feelings? what is this ask even for?
and how can you compare alicent to cate? cate had a loving and supporting husband, who respected her and loved the children they had together. alicent was married off to a sick middle aged king when she was 14, and was forced to have his children without anyone to support & guide her. viserys was a horrible father, and had a major role in making aegon and aemond turn out as they did. he ignored them, neglected them, he forced unwanted s*x on their mother. ned loved his children, respected his wife, his family was everything to him. his children idolized him. the stark kids grew up with parents that loved and respected each other, the targtowers grew up with a stressed out teen mom and a neglectful father that had no love or respect for his wife.
i hate it when people fail to acknowledge viserys's neglect of his sons and how it affected them and blame everything on alicent - who was a child herself when she gave birth to them.

@aeriondripflame:
#it always makes me :( when i think about viserion like viserion is the sweet one he is what viserys used to be or what he could have been :(#viserys iii targaryen#guava.txt#i always think about how viserys is described as gaunt and skinny like he probably skipped meals but always kept dany fed#single teen mother viserys#anyway any doranpilled people bc we agree he had no intention of supporting viserys’ claim right?#and also on viserys. literally makes me so mad when ppl call him mad or saying he had been displaying bad behavior since he was a child like#no the whole point is that he was twisted into this he held so much anger at the world at his situation that he took it out on others /#he wasn’t mad he was deliberately being an abuser and asshole bc he hated his life and blamed dany for their problems
viserys iii being the youngest son, second son, eldest daughter and single mother all at once. viserys who was quarantined as a young child with only his mother as company. viserys who believed the lies fed to a child about his father. viserys who could never live up to rhaegar’s example. viserys who taught daenerys about what they left behind. viserys who called her dany. viserys who raised his sister as his own. viserys who sold their mother’s crown to keep them fed. viserys who was ridiculed, who had to beg to survive, who had to protect himself and his sister from assassins while he was still a child. viserys who could never look forward, who was always looking back.
