🖌 Severstead + heat
Feels Like Summer
Kelly Severide, exhausted and burnt out from his 9-to-5 and feeling like a failure as a father, has to take a break. He rents a small cottage on the beach somewhere warm, packs up his four year old daughter, and drives down so they can spend the summer away from the rush of city life. And it's exactly what they needed. What he didn't expect was their next door neighbor, Will Halstead.
Will Halstead is tired of losing, and failing, and grieving. He fled his own wedding after kissing his best friend at his bachelor party. His father died only later, and the beach house he and Jay had grown up visiting every summer was left to him. So, he left Chicago. He left Chicago, and he didn't regret it. Jay was pissed, but Jay hadn't been anything but pissed at him since they were teenagers. Now, he works at the local cafe and bookstore in this little beach town, which thrives in the summer and survives the rest of the year, and he lives with his dog he rescued from a kill shelter, and he doesn't hate his life. Except, he does miss having someone to come home to.
Cue Kelly Severide. He's only there for the summer, and Will shouldn't get attached, but he's the cutest father, to the most perfect little girl. He watches the two of them in the sand out back of their houses in the afternoons, the little girl, Mara, is loud and excitable and whip smart. Will offers to share dinners with them, since he always makes too much, coming from a big Catholic family, and somehow that leads to Kelly and Mara bringing over cookies they'd made, and then staying to eat them together, and Will brewing coffee for the adults, and cocoa for Mara, while they watched a movie in his living room. It leads to getting ice cream together, and going swimming in the ocean, and building sandcastles, and maybe, while Mara is sleeping one night after a long day playing in the sun and sand, they might slip into the outdoor shower together for long kisses and hot touches.
At the end of summer, they have to decide what to do. Is this just a summer romance? A fling in the bright, hot sun? Does Will leave the small beach town he'd settled into? Does Kelly stay, leaving behind the fast-paced life he'd thought he'd grown tired of, for a man he could see raising his daughter with? What's next for them when the heat starts to fade and be replaced with turning leaves and the town slowing down?

Who is a girl dad and who is a boy dad: Matt Casey, Kelly Severide, Brian Otis Zvonecek, Jeff Clarke, Sam Carver, Will Halstead, Ethan Choi, Connor Rhodes, Crockett Marcel, Jay Halstead, Adam Ruzek & Antonio Dawson?
Before I answer this I want to remind everyone that I don't currently write for Chicago Fire. I probably won't ever do reader inserts for it just because I'm not a huge fan and I feel like that show died a painful death around season 4. But I will attempt some of the headcannons that hit me the right way. This one was just too fun to pass up.
I didn't do Sam Carver-Sorry I didn't make it to season 11- I stopped at 6/7ish.
I also want to say of course I think they would be good with the other gender too. I just wanted to pick one to be fair to the question. I spent way to much time on this and made them way longer than necessary lol. Hope ya'll enjoy and thanks for the ask <3
Will Halstead: Boy Dad!
I think Will needs to have a son. I think raising a mini version of himself is exactly what the doctor ordered (pun completely intended). We all know that Will has a stubborn streak a country mile wide and that when he gets an idea in his head, he can't let it go. Could you imagine that in child form? His red headed little boy going through a stubborn streak where is sure that any green food is icky because he didn't like peas. How about when he wears his basketball shoes to bed every night of the season because he is sure if he doesn't his team will lose? A son would teach Will to be more flexible in his viewpoint because his son will challenge his- well everything. The questions his little boy will ask with have Will rethinking things he never thought to question.
The main reason I think Will needs a son is that he can heal the wounds his dad carved into him. He gets to understand the struggles of raising a child with a personality like his own. It helps him better understand his father's frustration but he also never felt more disconnected from the man. Because Will could never understand the need to make his child feel the way he did growing up. Disconnected and a disappointment. Will raises his son the way he would have wanted to be raised- with understanding, acceptance, and praise. No one is prouder of their son than Will Halstead is. And with all that love, attention, and support Will gets to see his son not only live his life but thrive in it.
Ethan Choi: Girl Dad!
I don't think that surprised anyone. Ethan is a hardass veteran. He is all structure all the time. He kept getting better as time when on but you know what would push him along and make him absolutely melt? A little girl with dark hair and lashes. He thinks he will be a strict parent-and when it comes to school and safety he is. She will learn how to protect herself and have good enough grades to do anything she wants when she graduates.
But when it comes down to the little things Ethan has a hard time saying no to his little girl. Because she is warmth and innocence. She is the biggest smiles and climbing onto his lap to cuddle. So does it really matter if her clothes don't match because she loves them. And who really cares if they have dessert before dinner on occasion. And how can anyone say no to her staying up late so that they can have father daughter time- even if it is just them rewatching Star Wars for the millionth time.
Connor Rhodes: Girl Dad!
Connor absolutely spoils his little girl- not with money- but with attention. He doesn't want a nanny or money raising his baby. From the very beginning he makes a promise not to miss a single doctor's appointment and he nearly keeps it too- an emergency trauma caused him to miss one ultrasound. He takes the full paternal leave that is offered through work to bond with his blue-eyed little girl. He barely puts her down not wanting to miss a minute. His daughter is the biggest daddy's girl. Her first word is dadda and she says it nonstop for almost a month.
When he goes back to work, he books mandatory time with his daughter. He goes to at least three tea parties a week. When she gets a little older, they share a hobby of making food. It starts out with her helping him cook and trying recipes together. When she starts forming a preference for baking the dynamic changes slightly. They teach each other recipes and are a dynamic dinner duo. There are some growing pains. Connor struggles with his little girl not needing him anymore. He has tears in his eyes when she tells him, "I will always need you daddy."
Crockett Marcel: Girl Dad! (This is also just true to the show)
Crockett cherished every moment with his little girl. When she is a newborn, he holds her constantly and lets her sleep on his chest. Then he starts using a baby wrap to carry his daughter and be hands free. The long stretchy cloth was supposed to be a gag gift and obnoxiously bright fluorescent colors with a bold feminine print, but Marcel wears it with a smile. (It was a gift from Ethan to welcome him into the girl dad club. He included a gray one too, but Marcel only wears the bright on around work and his collogues.) The constant affection because a habit and his little girl has a hard time falling asleep anywhere but daddy's chest.
Crockett is a constant picture taker as his daughter grows. He phone memory is maxed out with pictures of her. He teaches her to speak Farsi. Every important or emotion filled conversation between the two is spoken in Farsi. Every tragedy, accomplishment, argument, exciting news, heartbreak and success. There is a comfort in words and bond the word share between the pair.
Jay Halstead: Girl Dad!
Jay fully embraces being a girl dad. He dresses her in the cute girly outfits. He learned how to take care of and do her hair. He never found a braid or hairstyle he couldn't master that his little girl wanted. He even kept extra hair ties in his wallet because she was constantly loosing or breaking them. He let her paint his nails bright pink and yellow while he watched the sea hawk's game. He always got up to do the dance parties and twirl her around. He never complained about playing dress up or wearing a taira or a brightly colored feather boa. And he was always willing to give up his half of the bed so that she could cuddle up with him after a nightmare or just because she got lonely in her room by herself.
Jay is a supportive dad. He does everything in his power to give his daughter the confidence to do anything and everything that she wants to. He wants her to feel safe enough at home that she can be daring (but not unsafe) in her choices. She can go against the grain, and he will still be proud of her. He supports her when she wants to play softball instead of do ballet. Then supports her when she decides that she like science and then when she hates it. He just smiles and buys her lava soap and Gojo pumice hand cleaner when she decides to take an automotive class instead of economics. The only thing that Jay struggles to be supportive of is when his little girl starts dating. He reconned her first date he watched her twist the guys wrist back when he tried to grab her butt then storms away after giving him a piece of her mind. Jay is proud of her boundaries but feels guilty for spying- even though he didn't get caught. He stops spying on dates but can never stop himself from giving them the talk with his gun and badge on his hip (Even well into her twenties).
Adam Ruzek: Boy Dad!
Adam had a good relationship with his dad growing up. He knows what a good dad looks like. His father sacrificed a fulfilling career to be able to be there for his son. Adam struggles with not being able to do the same. He misses games and holidays. His son says he understands but it is clear in his eye that his is disappointed when Adam doesn't show. But he makes up for it because when Adam is there- his all in. He helps his son practice his slap shot and cheers the loudest at his son's hockey games, he helps him with homework (even when he doesn't understand it and has to google it, gives him advice on girls (even when he doesn't want it), and checks him when he needs it.
It takes a lot for Adam to hard check his son. His son is a good kid- even if he does tell him at 10pm that he needs a posterboard for his school project that is due the next day and it is worth 1/3 of his grade. But when his son vandalizes a store with an Asian owner to get in with the "cool" crowd Adam loses his shit. He might even be madder than the store owner. His son thinks he is kidding about the consequences- Adam is a cop surely, he can get him out of trouble. Adam makes him stay 24 hours in holding, then has to apologize to the store owner. The owner doesn't press charges. He has to clean up his mess and the rest of the store and work to pay off any damages- even those caused by his "friends", and he is grounded indefinitely. His son learns the lesson the hard way, but it sticks with the added bonus of falling for the storekeeper's daughter.
Antonio Dawson: I cheated with this one because he actually has a son and a daughter. So instead of picking I'm doing a paragraph for each.
Antonio is from a large tight knit family for better or for worse. That means for the first few months his fighting to be the one that gets to hold his little girl. He practically has to steal her from his mom, Gabby, and all the other female relatives. The only thing that is to his advantage is that his little girl loves him. Whenever she sees him she is always saying and reaching for daddy. She is a beautiful, happy baby with dark curls and brown eyes. Antonio buys a new gun and then another, and then another. He figures he will need them all by the time she finally finds someone worthy of her to settle down with.
Antonio raises his son with the expectation that someday he will be the man of the house. He wants his son to know responsibility and how to take care of himself and other. To stick up not only for himself but for others that can't. He teaches his son to be aware (but not fearful) of his surroundings. Antonio's son takes all of it to heart. When Antonio gets a call that his son had laid out a bully for teasing a shy bookish girl. Antonio doesn't scold his son whose suspension ends up being more of a vacation. He just asks if he put his weight behind it and pats his son on the shoulder when he said he had. When the shy girl starts coming over to help his son with his homework almost every day, he isn't surprised to walk in on them making out on his couch. He is, however, surprised when his son brings her to his boxing gym to show off and that shy little girl throws one hell of a punch.
Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz: Girl Dad! (I added this one)
When he finds out that you are pregnant Mouse is afraid when he finds out that the baby is a girl, he is terrified. His daughter is so small and fragile. When she is placed gently in his arms his world changes. He has spent enough time at war to know that it is always the woman and girls that are at most risk. How could he possibly protect her from everything when there were so many bad people in the word. Mouse dotes on his little girl but keeps her close. He has worries that civil fathers don't. When she becomes weary of other people and children at age two clinging to his leg he wonders if it was his fear that was passed onto her. Even when people assure him that it was the typical age for stranger danger. Mouse painstakingly (and with Jay's help) starts to change his behavior. He doesn't want his little girl to have the anxiety and hypervigilance that he has to deal with. As Mouse eases up he watches his little girl's personality bloom.
She gets downright spunky. She is curious too. She learns technology with a swift ease. She spends a good deal of time on her daddy's lap and the clicking of a keyboard is relaxing. Mouse had found that it could help put her to sleep even on her crankiest days. He doesn't scold her when she starts taking things apart to put them back together. And while he does help and assist, he swears his daughter picks up most of her coding knowledge from just watching him. As she gets older he starts hacking her computer and phone to leave her cute little messages. When she is a teenager, she finally manages to hack his highly secured system back (She had the advantage of him being the one who taught her) When she goes to Tech school she is leaps and bond ahead of her classmates. Nobody is surprised when she ends up on government watch list and is soon offered a job. They want her on their side.
Matt Casey: Boy Dad!
Matt's son is his little buddy. Matt has wanted a baby for so many years that he is ecstatic when last little bundle is put in his arms. He does everything he can with his son and his son wants to do everything he does. He is his son's idol. He always wants to be at the fire house. He dresses up as a firefighter for Halloween for five years straight as kid.
Matt tries unsuccessful to keep his sons interested broad. He wants his son to at least consider other options, maybe going to college. His son is hellbent on going on being a firefighter. And Matt stops pushing after he threatens to go to the police academy instead. His son excel at during his training and Matt is so proud when his son graduates the academy.
Kelly Severide: Boy Dad!
Kelly's son is a mini version of him. Full of energy, testosterone, and charm. Kelly raises him with good manners, treat woman right, and to be respectful of authority. He also teaches him to question and act when the authority isn't doing their job, or something doesn't make sense of needs to be changed. Kelly's son is popular and plays football. Kelly goes to every game, and he know his son has a real chance at football scholarship but knows he is does not want to further his education and that he wants to follow in Kelly's footsteps to be a firefighter.
Kelly's son is a player. He goes through the girls in his high school (and multiple others). Kelly doesn't say anything- how could he when he had his own Casanova phase that took up a large portion of his life. His son should have fun as long as he is using protection. His son never brings any of them home for him to meet. None can seem to hold his son fickle attention. When his phone rings at midnight he expects a slurred request for a pickup not a fully sobered "I found her."
Jeff Clarke: Girl Dad!
Jeff's daughter is his princess. She is a tenderhearted happy little girl. He calls her the light of his life. They live in Hawaii, so everything is a slower pace. Jeff gets to enjoy the time with his daughter with nothing to rush him. They spend hours in the sun and on the beach playing in the sandy and splashing in the waves.
When his daughter is five, she demands to learn how to surf after a friend takes her out on their board. Jeff thinks it might be a phase- her just wanted to do it because she sees it every day. It becomes apparent very quickly that isn't the case. His little girl loves the ocean and asks him to go nearly every day. Jeff does one better than just taking her and learns how to surf too so they can do it together. He isn't great and she is much better, but she loves going out with him. He just loves seeing her so happy and at peace. It doesn't hurt that it he can keep an eye on the surfer boys that get more and more interested in her as she not only gets older but better on her board.
Brain "Otis" Zvonecek: Boy Dad!
Otis is a nerdy dad. He is the dad that does the Starter Pokémon test when he started to crawl (Charmander) and pick his Hogwarts house (Hufflepuff). Otis starts him young on all the classic movies and shows. Otis buys Legos for the two of them to build together (way before his old enough to really help. Otis reads to his on every night that he gets to put him to sleep. They start with short stories but as he gets older, they quickly switch to chapter books and Manga.
Otis doesn't know what to do when his son starts having trouble in school. When he is told that his son has a learning disability, he doesn't know what to do. Otis never had a hard time with academics he blew through his classes without much effort. He can see the absolute frustration in his sons face when he is struggling to read. Otis tries to help but his son, but it only seems to create more friction making the problem even bigger. The break though comes when Otis finds out his son's anger is a cover for his embarrassment and feeling like a disappointment. When his son accuses him of thinking he is stupid Otis' heart shatters. His eyes are water when he tells his son that he is one of the smartest people he knows- he just learns different his son breaks down and hugs him tightly.

Hey!
I have a Matt Casey request for you.
What if Casey was together with Kelly severide’s little sister who also is the PIC for ambo 61 and her partner on ambo is Gabby Dawson.
Y/n and Casey have decided that they want to adopt Louie and they are trying to do this, but it is hard when they are basically just dating and they aren’t married or even engaged.
After the celebration of 100 years anniversary at Molly’s, Casey and y/n decides to get married at the courthouse and of course everyone from the firehouse are at the courthouse to see everything and even Benny Severide is there to see his daughter getting married.
A few moments between y/n, Severide and Louie.
Moment between y/n, Severide and Benny.
Moments between Louie and Casey.
And moments between Casey, y/n and louie.
Something that’s based on season 5 episode 8
Matt Casey- Courthouse
How are we at Mollys celebrating 100 years of Mollys, well the bar. I hold my boyfriend, Matt, hand while standing next to my older brother Kelly. He's the reason I became a PIC for ambo 61 and the reason I met Matt. That's was a few years ago. I'm also holding on to the little boy I saved on my hip named Louis. We've both fallen in love with this little chap and so are currently fostering him, with the intent to adopt but it's looking to be a challenge because Matt and I aren't married or even engaged. I would be seen as a single mom.
"Ok" Herrmann grabs all of our attention as he stands on a chair "everybody, uh listen. 100 of anything is impressive but uh, 100 years for a bar that is down right magical. Back then there was no television, radio..."
"Well if we want to be specific radios we're actually invented in 1895 making them over a hundred years old"
"Who invited the history nerd" Hermann points at me making us all laugh
"Sorry. Continue" I tell him
"There was just neighbourhood with hard working people who needed a place filled with family"
"As long as Capone wasn't around" Mouch comments
"That's what this building is about" Herrmann continues "this place was built on Chicago soil and the original soil was rough and bloody, but Mollys, Mollys foundation is built on love" I can already feel tears starting the threaten "I don't care if that's corny. But it's built on love and you can feel it every time you walk in here. So heres to the next 100"
"Let's get married"
"What?" I frown looking at Matt
"Let's get married. Right now"
"Let's go" I smile feeling giddy
"Come here bud" Matt takes Louis from my arms and kisses his forehead
"Where are you guys going?" Herrmann stops us before we leave
"We're going to get married" Matt replies
"What? Guys they're finally getting married!" Herrmann shouts at the top of his lungs
"Not without us" Sylvie
When we all arrive at the courthouse I see mine and Kelly's dad and also our half sister Kate. I frown looking at Kelly confused
"What's dad doing here?" I ask
"I called him and Kate. Thought he'd want to see at least one of his kids get married" Kelly says "and well I know you and Kate talk all the time so"
"Thank you Kell"
"Let's do this!" dad yells clapping his hands. Kelly picks Louis up
"Hey little man. Ready to watch mommy and daddy get married?" he asks Louis who claps nodding his head. I take our dads arm while Kelly stands at the front with Matt
"We don't really need to do this do we? It's not like it's a proper wedding"
"Hey this is a proper wedding. It's your wedding" dad says. He walks me to Matt who takes my hands in his "you look after her"
"I will don't worry"
"Because if he doesn't he'll have me to deal with" Kelly says making all of us laugh.
The minister does his thing, we say our I do's and then we're pronounced husband and wife. We all head back to Mollys to celebrate. I watch as Louis is dancing with Matt
"So, that's going to be my grandson then?"
"Yeah" I give dad a smile "well as long as the adoption papers go through. We're doing them first thing in the morning"
"They'll got through promise" Kelly gives me a nudge "how couldn't they. Louis is so loved and safe with you and Matt. Hell Louis has the whole of the firehouse, PD and Med that will look after him"
"I'm proud of you YN. Both of you" wow dad actually is being super nice. Maybe weddings really do bring people together
"Mommy, dance" Louis says holding his hands out to me. I get up from my seat and join him and Matt dancing together
"You know we love you Louis, we both love you so much" Matt says hugging both of us.
The next day Matt and I walk into the firehouse with Louis holding both our hands
"You two going on a honeymoon?"
"No they are not. We all know what happened on a honeymoon" Kelly responds to mouch
"Shut up" I roll my eyes at my brother "Louis let's go and get some breakfast" I pick him up and take him to the kitchen, sitting him down on a chair
"Cheerios again?" Kelly walks in ruffling Louis hair
"He loves them"
"So when do you find out if you've got Louis?"
"In a week or so" I place the cereal in front of Louis and sit next to him. Kelly sits the other side
"You are going to be one loved and luckily boy" Kelly says to Louis "I've always got yours, your moms and dads back. That's a promise"

Requested by @maximeseveridecasey
Warnings: arguing/yelling
Summary: you are Kelly’s daughter and he wants you to take the lieutenants test, but you don’t want to so you go and tell Stella about it.
(Your pov)
“Please Y/n? Take the lieutenants test. My dad asks pulling me into his office. “I am not going to take that stupid test.” I protest back knowing that I am most definitely not ready for that next big step in my CFD career. “YOU WILL TAKE THAT TEST WEATHER IF IT IS STUPID OR NOT!” I was taken back by his actions. I blink trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill from my eyes. I take one last look at him and he had realized what he had done.
“No!” And with that I opened the door to my dad’s office and walked away. I walk straight through the common room in hopes that Stella would be in there. “Woah, Y/n are you okay?” I heard Otis ask me. “Just wonderful. Have you guys seen Stella?” I ask them hoping they’d know where she is at. “Yeah she’s up on the apparatus floor.” Casey points to the door. “Thanks captain.” I head out the doors and found Stella by the truck and made my way to her. “Hey, Stella can I talk to you for a minute?” I ask her and she nods and we made our way to the briefing room where I told her every single detail about the argument I had with my father.
“How about this there is some ice cream in the freezer you and I right now go in there grab it and turn on our show?” She asks earning a smile from me. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the common room. She went to grab the ice cream while I turned on vmd. About 30 minutes and half a tub of Ben and Jerry’s later my dad walks in. “Y/n I am asking you one more time please take the lieutenants test?” He looks at me with glossy eyes like he had been crying. I look over at Stella then to everyone else looking at me then back to my father. “Fine.” I give in and everyone cheers. “Well you better hurry before they start without you.” My dad tells me giving me a hug. I run up the doors to my car and made my way over to take the test.

It is the next day and we are all at Molly’s hanging out and having a great time. We finally hear chiefs phone ring so everyone stopped on their tracks and waited to see what the results were. Seconds later chief hung up and looked at us. “It is my pleasure to present to you lieutenant Y/n Severide.” Chief yells making me jump out of my chair while everyone erupted with cheers. My dad came up and gave me a tight hug. “I knew you could do it.” He says to me and I gave him a smile and walked away. “So, I guess I am taking orders from my girlfriend now?” I turn around to Brian and gave him a devilish grin. “You better follow them too.” He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss. “Drinks on me!” I yelled and everyone cheered once more

I’m No Benny 🩵🩷
Kelly is still away. Stella gives him some unexpected, life changing news. Kelly is reminded of his own dad and is determined to NEVER be that man.
Kelly had been gone for a few weeks. It was not planned time away. He had not seen or even talked much with Casey recently. He really admired Casey for taking the reigns and taking care of Andy’s boys. It was a sacrifice that had lasting effects. Not only leaving 51. Also, after months of trying to make it work, the inevitable happened. Brett and Casey had ended things. Knowing they couldn’t continue. So, when Kelly got a call that Casey had been hurt on the job. He was a single guardian to the boys and had no one to help with day to day caretaking. Casey was not able to drive, even doing the simplest tasks. He was doing Physio to get stronger but had injured his knee, was in a brace and on crutches. Kelly knew he needed help and was happy to lend a helping hand. Would give him a chance to reunite and bond again with Casey. Kelly had a army of family around him including his wonderful wife. If anything ever happened he would be surrounded by support. For Casey, he didn’t have that anymore. It was a no brainer. After the call, he immediately talked to Stella and she whole heartedly agreed, he needed to go. Kelly was worried about going. Stella had been through so much in their first year of marriage. The Campbell attack on their honeymoon, the RPG incident which had left her reeling. Stella assured him she had put all that behind her, she was thriving again. She would be more than OK. They would talk everyday. Their marriage was rock solid. They could definitely get along without each other for some time. Kelly had a lot of furlough built up. Of course, everyone still missed Casey and loved him and the boys. Boden, especially was more than happy approving some time for Kelly to go and help Matt.
Over the next days, Stella started to feel off. She was feeling nauseous, didn’t have much of a appetite. Was even having dizzy spells off and on. Noticing, small changes to her body. Being a woman and having medical experience she knew what was going on. Shock, came over her. Before she made a call to Kelly, she needed confirmation. Given at home tests can give false positives, she wanted to be sure before she gave her husband life changing news who was miles away. As Stella was on days off, she made an appt with her doctor. Her doctor took blood and assured Stella she would call her as soon as results came in. Stella was hoping results would be in before her nightly FaceTime with Kelly. Knowing, he would sense something was off. Stella and Kelly after so many years, could always sense when something was off with each other. Stella kept herself distracted the rest of the day. Had a girls lunch with Brett and Violet. Keeping her poker face in check. Stella wanted her husband to be the first to know, that was really important to her. As she returned to the loft, walking through the door, Stella was all in her thoughts. Her phone started ringing.
“Hello”
“May I speak with Stella Kidd-Severide?”
“This is”
“Hello Stella. This is Dr. Lincoln. I have your results. You are definitely pregnant. I would like to schedule you for a ultrasound. We can at that time get proper measurements”
“OK. Thank You”
Stella made an appointment for a few days later. As she hung up the phone. A feeling of shock came over her.
‘Of course this happens with Kelly out of town’
‘Were they ready for this?’
‘What about work? I can’t be a lieutenant while pregnant’
She was consumed with fear but also pure joy. All Stella’s life she never once entertained the idea of being a mom. For the longest time, she had no stability. In toxic relationships, especially her marriage to Grant. In no world did she ever want to bring a child into that environment. She was convinced it was not in the cards, but that all changed when she came to 51, when she started dating Kelly. Stella knew, falling in love with her now husband. All she wanted was to become a mom and see Kelly become a dad. He was going to be an amazing dad. In Stella’s eyes and heart. A picture, perfect family.
As her FaceTime ring tone buzzed. Stella smiled.
‘Here we go’ she thought.
“Hey Babe. How’s Oregon? How’s Casey? How are the boys?”
Kelly knew immediately something was off with Stella. Rambling off questions was the first red flag.
“Hi Honey. What’s going on? And don’t tell me nothing”
“Kelly, are you alone?”
“Yes. Casey and the boys are watching a movie”
“Are you sitting down?”
“Yes. Stel. You can see I’m sitting down. What’s going on with you?”
“IM PREGNANT”
“WHAT?! What did you just say to me?”
“I’m Pregnant. I have felt a little off for the past week. Nothing serious. But definitely feeling my body changing, nauseous and a couple dizzy spells”
“STELLA KIDD-SEVERIDE. Why didn’t you call me? Mention something in our nightly calls. No secrets remember?”
“Kelly. I didn’t want to worry you for nothing. I wanted to know 100% before I changed both of our lives in a single moment. You are with Casey, helping him and I’m so happy your getting time with him and the boys, some good bro time. Which is what you needed. What they needed. Your thoughts should be with them, not me. I promise, your the first person to know besides me and my doctor, of course”
“Stel. First. No matter where I am. Wherever you are is where I wanna be. There is never a day no matter where I am where I’m not thinking of you. I’m enjoying spending time with Casey and the boys but YOU, my love are always in my thoughts and my heart. Second, Sweetheart I’m so happy right now. We are gonna have a baby. I always thought of this moment and can’t believe it’s happening. God, I love you. You my beautiful wife are going to be an amazing Mom”
“Kelly. I LOVE YOU. And you my handsome man are going to be an amazing Dad. That’s been obvious for years”
“So. I have an appointment in four days. A ultrasound, make sure everything is good, get proper measurements. I can bring someone with me, maybe Brett. Keep your phone handy and i will give you a lengthy update”
“NO WAY STELLA. I’m coming home”
“Kelly. No. Casey needs you”
“Stella he’s doing better. He will understand”
Stella could see tears forming in the corner of his eyes.
“Babe. It’s ok. There will be a lifetime of moments for you to be the biggest part of. I can give you play by play updates, I promise. I have a army around me”
As Kelly let the tears fall down his cheeks.
“Stel. I won’t be like him”
“Kelly, what are you talking about?”
“My dad. He wasn’t there for me when I needed him, more importantly he left my mom on numerous occasions. I will NEVER be that man. Doctor appointments, just being there to bring you tea and give you a back rub. Stella, I am going to be there for it all. Me being a great dad starts with also being a great husband. I am getting on the next flight, end of discussion. I will see you soon, my love.”
“I won’t argue that EVER”
“Kelly. Just to be clear. You are not your dad. You are the greatest husband and are going to be an amazing dad”

Field Trip
Kelly Severide X Daughter!reader, Firehouse 51 x Severide!Reader
Summary: House 51 finds out you're being bullied after your class comes to the house for a field trip.
Warnings: Bullying
Reader's Age: 8
A/n: My first Chicago fire fic! This takes place season 4. There will be a second part.
Kelly packs your lunch while you got dressed. He looks toward your room to see you if you were coming out yet.
"Y/n! Hurry up! We're going to be late." He shouts zipping your lunch box up and reaching for your backpack.
"Coming!" You shout. He goes to set the lunch box in you bag before he notices a crumpled-up paper. He grabs it and uncrumples it before reading what it said. It was a field trip permission slip? Why didn't you tell him yet? He knows you, he knows how excited you get about field trips you'd never forget.
"Okay I'm ready." You said coming out of your room.
"Hey why didn't you tell me about this field trip?" He asks reading the paper over figuring it might be somewhere you wouldn't think he'd allow you to go. It was to fire house 51, why would you hide that from him. He had known there was a class coming to the house but he didn't know it was yours.
"Cause I don't want to go on it." You shrug putting your shoes on. He grabs a pen so he can sign it
"Why not bug? You love coming to the house." He says, as he signs the permission slip.
"This is different then going there with you." You say grabbing your bag. He looks at you questioningly.
"Please come. The guys would be so excited to see you." He says as Matt walks into the kitchen. You guys were still sharing a place with him. "Matt wouldn't everyone be excited to see y/n at the house today?"
"Yeah." He says confused.
"Dad, Uncle Matt it's not the same." You claim as he hands you the permission slip.
"I don't know what we're talking about." Matt says going around the counter to get a drink.
"Her class is coming on a field trip to the house today and she doesn't want to go." Severide says.
"What? Why not?"
"I just don't want to. Can we go now?" You ask putting your backpack on.
———
You sat on the bus on the way to the firehouse. You knew this was a bad idea but you were doing it cause your dad wanted you too.
"Hey Y/n?" You don't respond. "What? Cats got your tongue?" The guy behind you pushes your head.
"Leave me alone Brad." You mumble glaring at him.
"No what are you going to do cry to your mommy? Wait you don't have one." He laughs looking at his buddies.
"At least I have a dad that isn't a drunk." You quip back at him. He glares at you but sits back when the teacher looked your way. You looked out the window watching the building pass. It doesn't take long until the bus pulls into the firehouse. You stand up putting your bag back on and looking at your teacher.
"Okay everyone! Stay together no wandering off, listen to the firemen. They didn't have to let our class come by to see the firehouse but they did so be on your best behaviors. We're going to have pairs, that I'll be picking. So-." She goes through the names in alphabetical order by last name which was how she did the pairs. You crossed your fingers, Brad is right before you when going alphabetically. "Brad and Y/n." You groan looking at him and he just smirks. She eventually gets through all of the names. "Okay stay with your buddy at all times. Now single file let's get of the bus."
Everyone leaves the bus and finds their buddy. You stand before Brad frowning. Kelly and Matt were waiting to see if you'd come. Kelly hadn't mentioned it to anyone else. Matt was just curious mostly as to why you wouldn't want to come. Boden stands outside to greet the students and notices you rather quickly.
"Ms. Gates. Hello I'm chief Boden."
"Hello Chief nice to meet you. This is my class." She motions to the 12 3rd graders including you. You looked at squad table where your dad was grinning having seen you.
"Hello kids." He smiles. He decides not to greet you by name but he smiles back at you when you nod hello to him. "Welcome to firehouse 51. This is Otis he's going to be giving you a tour." Otis scans his eyes over the crowd of kids noticing you.
"Why do they call you Otis?" A girl in your class asks him.
"It's because I am the elevator guy." He explains.
"Oh." She says though she clearly still didn't understand.
"Okay lets start the tour!" He grins. You don't really pay attention since you've grown up in this firehouse. Brad seemed interested in it which meant he wasn't bullying you. Which means no one here knew you were being bullied. You had it handled, you didn't need to tell your dad.
You were intently listening to Otis talk about things you already knew. It was better then staying at the school you guess. Soon the tour was pretty much over. But because of Brad you got separated from the class. He got distracted looking at something, you tried to tell him to hurry up because you didn't want to get in trouble when Ms. Gates couldn't find him. He didn't listen though so now your separated from the group.
"This place is small I can find my way around it without Otis." He claimed after you pointed out that your were "Lost" you were you knew where you were but he didn't. "Now hurry up the teacher is going to notice cause you walk so slow."
"Uh huh." You mumble.
"Couldn't hear that." He teases laughing.
"You're just making us more lost." You say as he continues you taking you everyone except where you should be.
"Shut up. I know what I'm doing." He scoffs.
"Sure you do. Your just an idiot." You say under your breath. You didn't think he could hear you but he did.
"What did you say?" He asks halting his steps.
"I said you're just an idiot." You said a little louder. You looked around to see if anyone was around but nope of course not.
"Whatever at least I have a mom unlike you." You didn't say anything just walking toward the common area since you knew at least Mouch would be there. "Don't ignore me!" He says chasing after you pulling on your backpack to stop you.
"Hey." You yelped you didn't notice that Herrmann and Mouch were walking down the hall and saw you, they couldn't hear you guys but could see everything. They already knew you were here, they saw you with the class but they just waved. They didn't want to bother you when you were with friends. Well herrmann wanted to but Mouch stopped him. "Let go."
"What're you going to do huh? You're weak you can't do anything." Brad laughs in your face pushing you to the ground, you were quick to get up about ready to tackle him. The bullying was never physical it was just insults and stupid comments. You kicked him in the crotch causing him to fall to the ground. This was their cue to break it up.
"Woah there kids." Herrmann pulls him back right before he can fight back while mouch holds you back when he notices you try and swing at Brad.
"Why are you fighting?" Mouch asks, looking between you both.
"She kicked me for no reason! I was just trying to find someone cause we got lost." Brad lies.
"He pushed me! So I fought back." You said hoping they'd believe you. They knew the truth but you didn't know that. What you just did was starting to settle in and you were worrying about your dad's reaction.
"Okay kid." Herrmann looks down at Brad. "I'm gonna need you to tell the truth."
"I just did!"
"No you didn't! You pushed me I was just fighting back!" You argue. Mouch tightens his grip on you to make sure you don't try to fight him again.
"You're the liar. You kicked me for no reason!"
"Alright! We saw it happen. We want to know why it happened." Herrmann says sternly. You grew silent not wanting to admit it.
"She called me an idiot."
"Did you y/n?" Herrmann asks loosening his grip but keeping his hands on brad's shoulders so he could stop him if he did try anything. Mouch did the same with you noticing you calmed down a bit.
"Yeah I did."
"Wait how do you know her name?" Brad questions.
"Why did you call him an idiot?" Mouch asks ignoring Brad.
"He keeps commenting about how I dont have a mom... And he got us separated from the class and he claimed he knew what he did. And he is one!"
"Am not!" He argues.
"Yes you are!" You say before he tries to fight you again. Herrmann holds him back though while you lean back into Mouch to farther yourself from Brad.
"Take him back to their class. I need to talk to Y/n." Herrmann says to Mouch.
"Seriously how do you know her name?"
"My dad works here." You say. Brad's eyes widening but Mouch started leading him away before he could respond.
"How long?" Christopher asks you kneeling to be eye level with you.
"How long what?" You ask even though you knew.
"How long have you been being bullied and does your dad know?" He clarifies studying your face.
"Uncle Chris it doesn't matter." You say, you didn't want to talk about it.
"It does matter." You're family. Kelly is family so you're family. Maybe even a little more than kelly, you're his daughter's best friend and spend a lot of time at his house. Cindy watches you sometimes when Kelly is on shift, you have a nanny so normally your with her but when you can't be then you're with Cindy. "Even if you dont tell me I have to tell your dad."
"You can't! Uncle herrmann I have it handled."
"Handled? That didn't look handled."
"I just handled it. Please don't tell dad." You beg him. He shakes his head, he wants you to trust him, but he'd want kelly to tell him if he found out one of his kids were being bullied.
"You have to tell him or I will." He says before standing again. "I can be with you when you tell him. Now let's you get you back to the class."
"Okay." You mumble looking at ground.
"Y/n! I said no wandering and to stay by your buddy." The teacher says as you and Herrmann walk up.
"That's my fault Ma'am I had to talk to her about something so I sent her buddy back so I could." Herrmann explains to her.
"Okay. I guess that is fine then."
"Bye Uncle Chris." You say trying to shoo him away.
"You have a firemen as uncle?" One of your classmates ask grinning
"All of my uncles are firemen." You say which was true, you've known most of these people your while or most of your whole life, so you call them aunt and uncle. Other than Mouch and Otis they're just Mouch and Otis but you consider them your uncles either way. Herrmann smiles before walking out to the apparatus bay.
"Why didn't you mention that?" Ms. Gates asks.
"I thought you knew my dad was a firemen." You shrug. The teacher nods.
"Y/n you didn't tell your class about us?" Otis asks acting offending.
"Sorry Otis." You shrug before he goes back to the tour leading you all back to the apparatus bay to teach you about the equipment.
"Your dad works here?" Nate, one of Brad's friends asks in a whisper.
"Mhm." You nod not taking your eyes off of Otis. You could feel Herrmann and Mouch watching you as you sat beside Brad and his friends. They wanted to tell Kelly but wanted to see if you would first.
"Then who is he?" Jackson one of his other friends ask also whispering.
"Kelly severide." You motion to the table. Kelly talking to Capp about something.
"Really? Then why hasn't he said hi to you yet or talked to you?" Brad asks in a taunt.
"I dont know. Shush I'm trying to listen." You whisper looking over at herrmann.
"I bet you're lying just to get attention." He says louder than he meant making Otis look at you guys.
"Keep it down please so the people who want to learn can."
"Sorry." You say.
"If he's really your dad you'll go over and say hi to him."
"Ms. Gates would be mad if I leave the group again. I'm not doing it leave me alone Brad." You mutter
"That's cause he isn't your dad. You're lying for attention I knew it." Jackson laughs. You try to ignore them listening to Otis talk about something.
"Her dad is probably just some loser that's why she's lying." You look over at Herrmann and Mouch. They kept their eyes on you and the boys but were talking to each other.
"Your uncles won't be there next time." Brad says looking back at the firemen who glared at him, he turns back to Otis.
——
"Didn't she tell your kids?" Mouch asks herrmann.
"Annabelle didn't mention anything to me. Cindy would've said something if Annabelle told her." Hermann says looking at his friends.
"Severide doesn't know?"
"No. I heard from Casey that she didn't even want to come on this field trip. I guess we know why now." Herrmann says as your class comes out on to the apparatus floor again.
They watch you sit beside Brad and two other boys who were talking with Brad. The two men keep an eye watching you four talk. Noticing how you'd look at them every few minutes or so. They could hear one of the boys say you're lying for attention. They glared at Brad when he looked back at him. Brad turn around quickly, Herrmann smirks, he's never been happier to have a kid scared of him.
"Why are you glaring at that kid?" Dawson asks walking over to them.
"We caught y/n getting into a fight with that kid." Mouch says.
"He's been bullying her. She hasn't told anyone though." Herrmann says.
"Oh." Dawson say looking over at you, you are currently whispering to the guys next to you. "Have you guys told kelly yet?"
"No I'm giving her the chance to first. For now we watch." He says leaning back on the wall.
"Cause that isn't creepy." She chuckles patting his shoulder before walking away.
——
"Okay kids lets eat lunch and get back to school?" The teacher's voice breaks your thoughts. "Find a place to sit and eat with your friends just stay out of the way of the firefighters please." You get up and walk over to Herrmann and Mouch.
"Hey kid. Everything alright?"
"I'll tell dad... Not right now though I'll tell him tomorrow."
"Tell me what?" Kelly asks as he walks up behind you.
"Uh.." You look at herrmann for help. He nods slightly and you look back at your dad. "I'm being bullied... I got into a fight earlier."
"Who? Those boys you were talking to?" Kelly looks at them.
"Yeah. But dad im fine! I have it handled.." You say.
"Have you told your teacher?"
"No.. I haven't told anyone. Only reason they know is cause they caught us fighting." You mumble looking at the ground. You know you should've told him when it started but a lot has been happening lately that you thought it was better not to worry him.
"Okay... I'll talk to your teacher. Go sit at squad table and eat your lunch." Kelly says. "And bug please tell me next time."
"I will I promise. But I did totally win that fight! Ask them." You say proudly.
"Uh huh." He chuckles hugging you.
"Thank you guys." You say to mouch and Herrmann hugging them before running over to say hi to Capp.
"Thank you two for helping her." He says to the older men.
"Of course, if you found out my kids were being bullied id want you to tell me and Cindy." Herrman assures.
"Of course we'd tell you. Also she really did do some damage to that kid." Mouch says grinning. Kelly smiles shaking his head.
"Okay I need to talk to her teacher now. Thanks again."
—
"Hi Uncle Capp! Hi uncle Cruz!" You smile as you take your book bag off your back and sit in Kelly's seat.
"Hey baby Severide." Capp smiles. "What do you got for lunch?"
"A sandwich. Dad can only make a basic lunches." You say pulling the lunch box out.
"That's why we don't let him cook for us." Capp jokes.
"Who were those boys?" Cruz asked you.
"The guys who've been bullying me. But I already told dad and he's dealing with it." You say pulling out your sandwich.
"You're being bullied?"
"That's what I just said." You mumble taking a bite of the sandwich.
"Why didn't you tell us? We could've rough him up a bit for you." Capp jokes.
"I already did. I faught him in the hallway earlier and I won." You say smugly.
"Way to go." Cruz grins high-fiving you. "How did gig do it?"
"I kicked him in the crotch." You whispered. Capp laughs high giving you.
"Good job." He grins.
"Thanks." You say with your mouth full. You look over at your teacher and Kelly. He seemed frustrated but you couldn't hear what they were saying. "
"He'll get the teacher to do something about it. If she doesn't, you have a bunch of firemen who can scare him off for you." Cruz grins. You nod looking down at your food.
"Hey Y/n how was the tour?" Otis walks over to the table smiling at you.
"It was good. Sorry I missed some of it. Brad the guy I was paired with got distracted by something.. And than he wouldn't let me lead the way back."
"It's okay."
"Hey Otis our little y/n here got into a fight today and won." Cruz smirks proudly.
"No shit. When?" Otis leans on the table.
"When we got lost."
"That's what herrmann was talking to you about."
"Yeah. Him and Mouch had to break it up." You say grabbing your cookie from the lunch box. "Dad is talking to Ms. Gates about it." You motion to where kelly was at.
"It'll end up okay." Otis assures. Kelly walked back over looking angry.
"She said she can't do anything." He says sitting down in one of the chairs.
"What? Why not?"
"Something about school policy and kids needing to handle it themselves I don't know."
"That's bull shit." Cruz says. You look over at Brad and the other two boys. You thought it would end not that you told your dad but it won't of course.
"Hey we'll get him to stop. I have one rule though you don't start any fight okay? But you end them okay?" Kelly asks you taking your cookie and breaking a piece off of it before handing it back to you.
"Yeah I won't start any fights I promise."
"Good."
"So tell my y/n how did you win that fight?" Otis asks.
"Fight?" Sylvie asks walking over.
"What happened?" Stella says coming over as well.
"Our little severide here got into a fight." Cruz grins.
Even if you are being bullied, you know you'll always have support here.

Can u do an alcoholic dad one with Kelly ? Maybe when he turns up at the station and reader ain’t seen him in years ? Protective severide ! X
Busy call after Busy call. It was always the way. The minute someone in firehouse 51 mentioned it had been quiet on shift, the alarms didn’t stop from then on out. Every single call 61 had been either something the patient could have seen a GP for or something that became “nothing” the minute they arrived.
All she wanted to do was have a 5 minute breather - realistically a nap snuggled in Kelly’s arm but since Squad 3 were still out, she took the moment to flop back onto his bed in his officers quarters where she would hopefully get some uninterrupted time.
She had barely closed her eyes when she heard the knock on the frame of the door, looking up to see Ritter standing there looking sheepish.
“What now?” She groaned, pulling Kelly’s blankets up over her head.
“There’s someone here asking for you..” Ritter confessed, “by name..”
“For gods sake, can’t I get a few minutes rest?” She muttered as she rose from the once warm bedsheets so should definitely still be wrapped in.
She made her way onto the apparatus floor to find a man sitting at squad table. A man who definitely did not belong there.
“You need to leave..”
“Doesn’t my daughter want to play catch up with her father?” Harold replied. Harold, not her father, not her dad, just a man who chose alcohol over his family one too many times. Memories swirled around her brain of the years of verbal abuse once the alcohol worked it’s way through his system, or taking care of him at 8am when he was blackout drunk and most recently, him drinking at Molly’s and proceeding to slap her across the face and call her a whore for dating Kelly because in his eyes she ‘would always be his little girl and there’s no room for another man in her life’
“No, I want you to leave..” She announced, looking behind her to see Ritter and Mouch watching her every movement. Thankful they were nearby since Harold was irrational and unpredictable at best.
“I think you should go-“ Ritter began to speak, guilt evident in his voice that he now recognised the man as her father.
“Don’t tell me what to fucking do.” Harold snapped as his eyes darkened , “she’s my daughter and she will speak to me when I fucking say so”
“I don’t think so, Harry.” A voice came from behind them. Her breathe caught in her throat when she realised it was Kelly, followed closely by Capp, Tony and Cruz, “she has asked you to leave”
“Fuck off severide..” Harold Scoffed, “she’s my fucking daughter”
Kelly moved closer to him, motioning for the other squad 3 members to stay put. “Harold.. she doesn’t want to talk to you”
“SHES MINE.. NOT YOURS!!!” Harold yelled pushing Kelly away from him, which quickly ended in Harold being subdued by Capp and Cruz.
If she spoke, she knew tears would fall. Hell! She would likely fall to her knees and not get up. This was all too much, Harold was too much.
Kelly breathed deeply as he approached the restrained man. “I don’t know what your obsession is with her, but I know the last 4 years you’ve wanted nothing to do with her. You put her through hell growing up and taught her from an early age that men fucking suck and guess what? I’m working so hard to get her to trust me, to trust that I’ll never hurt her the way she was hurt by you”
“I did nothing-“ Harold yelled at him, before being interrupted by his own flesh and blood.
“There are things I can forgive, and theirs things I can’t. And right now, you’re the top of that list. I want you gone.. now.” Her voice shaked with each word.
“You know what? You’ll fucking regret this” Harold yelled, pulling away from the grasp the men had on him before storming out through the roller door.
Kelly snaked his arms around her waist, “I’m sorry I wasn’t here.” A kiss pressed against her forehead, “are you okay”
“I just want to sleep..” she cried into his chest.
“Come on then” Kelly whispered, leading her towards the bunk room.
‘Ambulance 61. Gunshot wound at…’

"A fight? Really? What were you thinking Y/N?" Your dad Kelly demanded as you got silently into the car, his uniform still on as he'd had to leave his shift to pick you up from school. "I raised you better than that."
"I know dad, I'm sorry," you replied genuinely, feeling bad about the whole ordeal, the other kid has lost a tooth afterall.
Kelly shook his head, saying nothing for a couple of blocks, the silence worse than anything he could say.
"You didn't hear what he was saying-" you tried to explain but Kelly cut you off with a wave of his hand.
"And I don't really care Y/N, you shouldn't have hit him," he told you, words final.
"They were picking on me for not having a mom okay? Making comments about how terrible you must be for her to leave," you said quietly. Kelly didn't stop you this time, knowing how much of a sore subject it had been with you since you were old enough to understand you weren't like other families.
"They said firefighters don't need to be smart, so you had the job because it was the only one you could do," you continued, noticing the way he gripped the steering wheel a little tighter. It had always been a sore subject with him too, forever being questioned on any parenting decision he made as a single dad.
"Well, I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself, but don't do it again alright?" Kelly said, anger replaced with understanding.
"No promises," you told him with a jokey grin, "I am your kid afterall." Kelly had once gotten physical with another dad over comments he made about your family.
"Yes you are, and don't forget it," he told you, ruffling your hair.
"Never," now that was something you could promise.

she's her daddy's girl, her momma's world - chapter 6
like my mother does
Maya is in a mommy phase and Kelly isn't handling it well
Read on AO3
Kelly Severide was in a mood.
Everyone on second shift could tell by the way he sulked around the station. Not even Stella entering the room, which always made Severide smile and his eyes shine, seemed to dispel the dark cloud hovering over him.
Stella gave him a playful frown and squeezed his arm as he passed her on the way out of the common room. She watched him go then continued to the coffee maker with a smile and a shake of her head. The others looked at her curiously—Stella didn’t seem at all affected by his mood. Granted she was probably use to it more than they were, but gloomy Severide tended to affect them all.
Cruz looked out at the app floor from his spot at end of the kitchen counter, making sure Severide was out of earshot, before turning his attention back to Stella. “Stella, what the hell is going on with Severide?! He has been doom and gloom since you two got here this morning.”
Stella chuckled as she finished pouring her coffee, then turned to face the group, leaning against the counter. “It’s Maya.”
“Is she ok?” Casey asked, his attention peaked at the mention of his goddaughter.
“Yeah, she’s fine,” Stella was quick to assure. She sighed. “She’s just in a really big mommy phase right now and….it’s been rough on all of us.”
Capp snorted, amused. “So he’s moping around because Maya wants you to read her a bedtime story instead of him?”
“It’s more than that,” Stella argued with a glare aimed at the Squad member. “Maya, who is the biggest daddy’s girl, only wants me to do things with her. Bath time, bed time, helping her get dressed, dropping her off at daycare, she only wants me. That shift I had at Molly’s a few nights ago? Maya was so upset that Kelly was the only one there to help that she made herself sick.”
Capp raised his eyebrows, shocked. The others looked shocked too. They all adored Maya and knew how much of a daddy’s girl she was, and they couldn’t place what Stella was telling them with the little girl they all knew and loved. No wonder Severide was so moody.
“Hopefully it won't last that much longer," Stella continued, taking a long drink of her coffee.
"Is this the first time this has happened?" Matt asked. He didn’t remember the last time his best friend acted like this—life with Stella and then Maya had done wonders for the man.
"No, but this is the first time it's happened since the shooting and the kidnapping," Stella said quietly. “Kelly still has so much unresolved guilt around that day so everything’s hitting him a little harder this time.”
Stella hated thinking about that day; it was single-handedly the worst day of her life, thinking she’d lost her husband and their little girl. Three months had passed, and life had returned to normal for the Severide family but memories and reminders of that horrible day still lingered, rearing their ugly heads every now and then.
Any humor at the situation went out the window once Stella mentioned the shooting and kidnapping that had rocked their world. It didn’t take them long to realize the gravity of the situation.
“Is it really that bad?” Brett asked from her spot next to Violet.
Stella frowned, thinking back over the last few days.
“Mommy! Come pway with me!” Maya called from the living room.
Stella and Kelly shared a look. Kelly had been sitting in the living room, right within Maya’s view while Stella was in the kitchen working on getting lunch prepared.
“I’m making lunch baby,” Stella replied. “Why don’t you play with daddy?”
“No!!!!!” Maya yelled. “No pway with daddy! I wanna pway with you!”
Stella looked over at Kelly and she could’ve sworn she saw his heart break.
Maya had been a daddy’s girl since she was born, always choosing her dad over her mom.The two had a bond like no other—Kelly was obsessed with her and Maya thought he hung the moon. That bond had only grown after Maya had been kidnapped and Kelly had been shot, the trauma of the day and the relief of the reunion forging a stronger relationship. Stella would’ve been jealous if it wasn’t so damn cute.
Maya and Kelly were practically inseparable.
Until they weren’t.
Kelly knew it was normal for kids, toddlers especially, to go through phases of wanting one parent over the other but for her entire life, Maya seemed to be the exception. He could count on one hand (and have fingers left over) the number of times Maya chose Stella over him. It had been a long time, over a year, since
Maya’s last ‘mommy phase’ but each one seemed to last longer and hurt his heart even more.
It had been two days since Maya’s most recent mommy phase had started, but Kelly could’ve sworn it’d been months.
“Pwease mommy?!” Maya asked, her voice taking on more of a whine.
Kelly got off the couch and walked into the kitchen, meeting Stella at the island. “I’ve got lunch. Go play with Maya.” Kelly said, subdued.
Stella looked at him sadly. “Kelly—”
“I know,” he said softly, giving her a small smile that didn’t make it to his eyes.
Stella gave him a sympathetic smile and squeezed his arm as she passed him on her way into the living room.
~~~
Stella rushed into the loft, throwing the door open in her rush to get inside. She had been at Molly’s, working a shift with Herrmann when Kelly called. She barely heard anything he said over the wail of Maya’s sobs in the background, but she didn’t need too. The sound of her daughter crying was enough to have Stella leaving Molly’s early, with barely an excuse thrown Herrmann’s way, and breaking several traffic laws in her hurry to get home.
The scene Stella walked in on was not what she was expecting. Kelly was staring at Maya from one end of the couch, looking more distraught than Stella had seen in a long time, Maya’s favorite purple pajamas next to him. On the other end of the couch was Maya. The little girl’s eyes were red-rimmed and swollen, her sobs had lessened to hiccups, and next to her was the small trash can they’d used for her the last time she had been sick.
The door shutting behind her grabbed the attention of the two Severides and tears immediately filled Maya’s eyes again. She reached her arms out towards Stella. “Mommy!”
Stella dumped her bag by the front door and quickly walked over to the couch. She immediately lifted Maya into her arms and hugged her close. “What’s wrong baby?”
Maya shook her head and buried her face into Stella’s neck, using her little arms to squeeze herself impossibly closer to her mom.
Stella ran a hand up and down Maya’s back, trying her best to comfort the toddler. She looked over at Kelly, who had slowly gotten up from the couch. His movements were fatigued, not from physical exhaustion but from the mental and emotional toll the night had taken on him.
“What happened?” Stella asked, concerned.
Kelly sighed sadly. “She didn’t want to take a bath without you here. I decided it wasn’t worth the fight, so we skipped it and I tried to get her ready for bed, but she didn’t want me to help her. I barely got her to eat dinner without you here. She was upset and she got even more upset when I told her you were working tonight and wouldn’t be back for bedtime.”
“She cried so hard she made herself sick. I tried, but all she wanted was you.” Kelly added quietly. “That’s why I called.”
Stella’s heart broke for her husband, the devastation in his eyes impossible to miss. It had been nearly a week since Maya started her most recent mommy phase—the longest it had ever lasted—and it had never gotten this bad before. Add the fact that the three-month anniversary of the shooting and Maya’s kidnapping had just passed, and Kelly was convinced Maya hated him. Stella had tried, multiple times, to convince Kelly that Maya didn’t hate him, but his guilt about the shooting and kidnapping made him more stubborn than usual.
Stella moved her hand from Maya’s back to place it on the side of Kelly’s head. She felt him lean into her hand and she knew he was trying to hide how much this was hurting him; he didn’t want Maya to see it. Soothingly, Stella rubbed her thumb across his jaw a few times. It eventually got the result she wanted—a small but genuine smile from her husband.
A few moments later, Kelly sighed and handed Maya’s pajamas to Stella. Stella took the jammies and gave Kelly one last lingering look before turning her attention back to the three year old in her arms. “All right baby girl, let’s go get you ready for bed.”
“No baff,” Maya said sleepily.
Despite everything, Stella chuckled. “No bath tonight, I promise, but it is way past your bedtime.”
Stella carried Maya off towards her bedroom. Kelly watched them go, staring after them until they disappeared from sight.
Stella looked at her best friend, finally answering her question. “The night I left Molly’s early was the worst but it hasn’t gotten much better.”
Everyone looked sympathetic. Those who had kids understood the situation better than those who weren’t parents yet, but they could all imagine how hard this was on not only Severide, but Stella and Maya as well.
Brett got up from the table and walked over to Stella, wrapping her friend in a hug. “I’m sure things will be back to normal soon.”
“I hope so.” Stella mused, returning Brett’s hug with one arm. “I don’t know how much more Kelly can take.”
Before anyone could say anything else, the bells tolled, calling the entire station out on their first call of the day.
… … …
Severide and Stella were exhausted when they got off shift, immediately going to the loft in hopes of getting a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. There had been back to back to back calls all shift, including a four alarm fire in the early morning that turned their 24 hour shift into a 28 hour shift.
Maya, who had spent the night at the Cruz house for a sleepover with Otis, had been dropped off at daycare that morning by Chloe, so Severide and Stella wouldn’t need to leave the loft until it was time to pick her up.
The second their heads hit the pillows they were out like a light, sleeping for hours without waking up to even eat or use the bathroom. If it wasn’t for the alarm sounding on Stella’s phone, alerting them it’s time to pick up Maya from daycare, they would’ve easily slept for a few more hours.
Stella silenced her alarm and climbed out of bed. Daycare pick up was something Kelly would do, or they’d do it together, but with Maya’s mommy phase it was just easier for Stella to do it alone. She gave Kelly a kiss as he became more awake and headed out.
Sleep after a long shift was great, but there was no better cure than spending time with her husband and their little girl.
… … …
Kelly was in the kitchen, back to the front door, when Stella and Maya returned home. Focused on prepping dinner, he didn’t notice his wife’s mini-me running towards him until her tiny body collided with his legs.
Surprised, he looked down and saw Maya looking up at him with a smile, her little arms wrapped around his legs. “Hi daddy!”
Severide looked from his daughter to his wife, who was standing by the island with a smile on her face. “Looks like it’s over,” Stella mouthed.
All the stress Kelly had been holding onto the past few days seemed to melt away at that moment and a genuine smile graced his face for the first time in days. Ignoring the food he’d been working with, Kelly bent down and picked Maya up hugging her tightly against his chest. “Hi baby! I missed you!”
“Me miss you too!” Maya replied sweetly. The three-year-old probably had no idea the emotional turmoil her father had been through the past few days or the true meaning behind his words, but that didn’t matter.
Kelly placed a kiss on her forehead and hugged her one more time before shifting her onto his hip. “How was your day? Did you have fun?”
Maya nodded excitedly and dove into an animated retelling of her day as Kelly went back to prepping their dinner for the night. He listened intently, and responded when appropriate, all with a smile on his face because wow did he miss this.
Stella watched her two favorite people with a smile on her face. Things had gone back to normal seamlessly, as if Maya’s mommy phase had never even happened. As she walked over to join them and lend an extra set of hands since it was clear Kelly wouldn’t be putting Maya down any time soon, her husband smiled at her.
It was a real smile, one that shone in those blue eyes she loved so much, and everything felt right in the world again.
I can’t sleep and I’m in really soft feels about characters so yeah have a Stellaride drabble.
—
When Stella found out she was pregnant, she was terrified. It wasn’t like they were avoiding her getting pregnant, and going through her pregnancy with Kim a few weeks ahead and Sylvie a few weeks behind had been a blessing, but she was terrified. She and Kelly had not been blessed with good parents, and she didn’t know if she could do it.
But conversations with the people who’d adopted them into their families - with Boden and Herrmann, Cindy and Donna invaluable resources for a scared heavily pregnant woman - she realised they could do it. They could bring their daughter into the world and if she could watch Adam Ruzek parent a ten year old and a newborn, she and Kelly could do it.
But now Flora Leslie Severide was in her arms, and she knew exactly what was meant by falling immediately in love with your child. Flora was the image of her father, and Stella couldn’t put her down. Kelly had gone to tell everyone that their daughter was there, to come and meet her, and this was the last few moments she’d have with Flora before their daughter met their family.
“You’re about to meet the best people in the world, Flo. Every single person about to enter this room loves you already. If anything ever happens to your dad or I, they’re going to make sure you’re ok.”
The conversation had been hard, the realities of their job meaning they had to talk about if they didn’t come home. But as their family streamed into the room, Boden and Matt and Sylvie and Capp and everyone who loved them, Stella was completely at peace. She watched as their daughter was held, and kept her emotions in check as the man who’d given her away at her wedding held her, Donna smiling at the sight.
And once everyone left, her husband sat up on the bed with his wife and daughter in his arms, the new family completely in love.
CHICAGO FIRE – PROVE IT (S02E02)
Renee Royce: Hey [chuckles]
Kelly Severide: You’re -- you’re back early.
Renee Royce: Yeah, two weeks of my mom’s natural birthing
lectures was enough.
Come here. Feel this.
Crazy kicking for the last two days. The baby missed
you, I think.
Kelly Severide: I-I’m gonna be late, so I better get going, but, um,
we’ll catch up after shift?
Renee Royce: Sounds good.
Kelly Severide: Okay.
[kissing sound]
Kelly Severide: Okay.
cutscene
Matt Casey: Yeah, I’m just looking for any kind of an update.
Attorney: I don’t have one. Everything is up in the air right now.
Matt Casey: Okay, well, I-I still have the kids here.
Ben Darden: Where do you keep the cereal?
Matt Casey: Uh, call me back as soon as you hear anything.
[phone beeps]
Matt Casey: Uh, yeah. All right. I’m gonna make you guys some
lunch for school.
Ben Darden: What about breakfast?
Matt Casey: Yes. Good point.
Griffin Darden: When’s my mom coming back from her trip?
Matt Casey: Soon, really soon.
Ben, just… here, put that stuff back, buddy. You guys
need to get dressed. We’re late.
Griffin Darden: Well, when you talk to mom, tell her we’re ready to
go home, okay?
Matt Casey: Evie will pick you up from school today.
[glass shatters]
Matt Casey: Oh! Okay.
[grunts] I got this. Don’t worry
[sighs]
[doorbell rings]
Ben Darden: I’ll get it!
Matt Casey: Thanks, Ben.
Griffin Darden: You missed some.
Matt Casey: Thanks, Griffin.
Gabby Dawson: Boo!
Matt Casey: Gabby.
Gabby Dawson: Hey. I figured I’d stop by on my way to work, see
how everyone’s doing.
Griffin Darden: I’m starving.
Gabby Dawson: All right. Whoever runs to the bedroom first and
gets dressed in under two minutes gets one of
these. I’m timing you. Go! I’m timing you! Get on it!
[chuckles]
Matt Casey: Impressive.
Did you talk to Antonio? I’m not getting anything from
the attorney.
Gabby Dawson: Yeah, he says that Heather has a good chance of
getting out on probation soon. First offense, single
mother…
Griffin Darden: Cut it out! Stop it, Ben!
Ben Darden: Aah!
Matt Casey: Guys!
[shouting continues]
Matt Casey: I hope he’s right.
cutscene
[door opens and closes]
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Kelly.
Kelly Severide: These arsons we’ve been fighting… M.O. matches
up with John Westminster. That’s a guy that my dad
helped put away a few years back.
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Yeah, yeah. “Big John” I remember. So?
Kelly Severide: So I called DOC. and it turns out he was released
from prison a month ago, right before the fires
started.
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): So you think he’s looking to settle the score
with Benny by coming after you?
Kelly Severide: I think it’s worth looking into.
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Sure. Anything for Benny Severide’s kid.
[door opens and closes]
cutscene
Gail McLeod: [sighs] I-I don’t think you understand the seriousness
of this situation, Chief.
Chief Boden: Oh, I can assure you I do.
Gail McLeod: Then explain why you have yet to input any data into
The Wizard.
Chief Boden: I will, Ms. McLeod, as soon as I get five minutes.
Gail McLeod: No, today, this shift… unless you’d like me to get a
relief Battalion Chief to come in to do it for you.
Chief Boden: Hmm. I’ll get it done.
Gail McLeod: Good. Thank you, Chief.
Chief Boden: [scoffs]
cutscene
[ambo door shuts]
[squad shutters closes]
Leslie Shay: Hey.
[squad door shuts]
Kelly Severide: Hey.
Leslie Shay: So, the management company called to remind us that
the new tenants are gonna move in on the 16th.
Kelly Severide: Yeah, Renee and I can finish packing up this
weekend.
Leslie Shay: So does that mean you talked to her about the baby?
Kelly Severide: She just got back to town a few hours ago. Give
me a break, okay?
cutscene
Lt. Spellman: 51 has the best food in town. Where’d you learn how
to cook?
Peter Mills: My family owns a restaurant. Been behind a grill since I
was a kid.
[dog whines]
Kelly Severide: Any update on Heather’s friend, Jen?
Matt Casey: Still in critical condition.
Leslie Shay: Casey, how are the boys?
Matt Casey: As far as they know, mom’s on a trip. Hopefully they’ll
be home soon. If it hadn’t been for her, they’d have
shown up to school an hour late wearing pyjamas.
Gabby Dawson: Yeah, that smelled like beer.
[alarm blaring & buzzing]
(Over PA): Truck 81, Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61. Multi-
vehicle accident, Interstate 90 at the Eisenhower
Expressway.
[sirens wailing]
Man 2 (Truck Driver): Hey! Hey, over here! Over here! Hey.
Just before the house went over, I saw a
motorcycle passing on the right.
Chief Boden: Go.
[fire extinguisher spraying]
Kelly Severide: [grunts] Sir?
I can feel his leg, just not a pulse.
All right, get me some cribbing and air bags. We
need to lift and stabilise this home.
Harold Capp: You got it.
Victim 1: [groans]
Kelly Severide: Boden, you hear that?
(into radio) Otis, Mouch, grab me a ladder.
(over radio) There’s someone else inside.
Otis Zvonecek: (into radio) Copy.
Severide, where do you want it?
Kelly Severide: Guys, right there.
Clarke, follow me.
Located the victim. Send me up a line.
Gabby Dawson: Ma’am? Can you hear me?
Leslie Shay: Airway’s clear. She’s breathing.
Kelly Severide: All right, I’m on line.
All right, going down.
Leslie Shay: Dawson.
Gabby Dawson: Yeah?
Back door’s open.
Casey! We got a missing kid. Ran from the car.
Matt Casey: Got it.
Chief Boden: (over radio) What have you got, Severide?
Kelly Severide: (over radio) He’s in bad shape. We need to find a
way to get him out of here quick.
Gabby Dawson: From the size of the seat, the kid could be
anywhere from, like, three to six years old.
Kelly Severide: Clarke… send me down a sawzall, then bring the
stokes basket.
Jeff Clarke: Got it. Send up a sawzall.
Kelly Severide: Got it.
[saw whirring]
Harold Capp: Up on green.
Kelly Severide: [coughs] Found the owner of the boot.
(over radio) The other victim’s trapped beneath
‘em. We need those airbags now!
[whirring]
Matt Casey: There.
Harold Capp: (into radio) Air bags are up.
(over radio) Motorcyclist’s legs should be free,
Lieutenant.
Victim 1: [groans]
Kelly Severide & Jeff Clarke: One, two, three, up!
[grunts]
Kelly Severide: Go. There we go.
All right, guys, get ready to lift him up.
Matt Casey: Hey buddy. It’s okay. I’m Matt. What’s your name?
Child: Colin.
Matt Casey: Come on out. Come on. Let’s get you safe and
sound.
[siren blares]
- title screen -
Chief Boden: This “Wizard” program is the most convulated…
Mouch: Yeah, we should record this. Use it to show how
ineffective McLeod’s systems are. This crazy budget
tightening has nothing to do with saving lives.
Christopher Herrmann: Now you’re talking like a Union president.
Chief Boden: You will not record this.
Christopher Herrmann: Yeah, you know what? You need to get
out there, you know, and start your
campaign. Greg Sullivan’s already in high
gear. I got one of his flyers in the mail
yesterday.
Mouch: Me too. Nice, high-gloss paper. Guy’s got campaign
funds.
Christopher Herrmann: Nah, forget the funds. You know what,
the most valuable commodity in any
election is the candidate themselves.
Visit the firehouses, present ideas, take
questions…town hall style.
Mouch: [slurping] It’s not a bad idea, Herrmann.
Chief Boden: Will the two of you kindly take your business
elsewhere?
cutscene
Firefighter: He’s right there.
Matt Casey: Evie.
Woman 1 (Evie): Mr. Casey, I’m so sorry to bother you.
Matt Casey: Where are Griffin and Ben?
Woman 1 (Evie): Outside. My daughter has a sore throat, could be
strep. I-I need to take her to the doctor.
Matt Casey: Oh.
Woman 1 (Evie): I tried to get them to come inside, but there’s a
problem with Griffin.
[car door closes]
Matt Casey: Griffin, come inside. We’ll give you guys a VIP tour.
Griffin Darden: He can go in. I’m staying outside.
Ben Darden: Hey, Dawson!
Gabby Dawson: Hey, guys.
Hi. I’ll take Ben inside.
Matt Casey: Thanks.
Christopher Herrmann: Hey! Ben Darden’s in the house!
Kelly Severide: Hey, you little rug rat! Look at you! [laughs]
How you doing? You’re getting so big. Come on,
we’ll show you around the joint. How about that,
huh?
Ben Darden: Is that all of Chicago? Is my house on there?
Kelly Severide: Yep, it is. It shows us every street and address in
the city. Right there, that’s the ‘dangerous
buildings’ list. Every station has one. It shows us
all the buildings that are really tricky to fight fires
in.
Peter Mills: Yo, you want to come check out the truck? Yeah.
Joe Cruz: Hey.
[indistinct background chatter]
Griffin Darden: Ben’s an idiot for acting like this place is so cool.
Matt Casey: Your father loved it here.
Griffin Darden: I just want to go home, okay?
Matt Casey: I know.
Griffin Darden: [sighs]
Matt Casey: How about this? I’ll cancel my construction job. After
shift, we’ll go down to the pier. You can grab
whatever you want for lunch.
Ben Darden: Can I go up on the ladder?
Peter Mills: Uh, I-I think we’re gonna have to check on that one,
partner.
Joe Cruz: Rules say no visitors in the aerial… But then again,
you’re not just any visitor, huh?
Mouch: Chief, what do you say?
Chief Boden: Ah, go ahead.
[cheering]
Ben Darden: Woo!
Joe Cruz: Come on.
Ben Darden: [laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
cutscene
[knocks at door]
Renee Royce: [chuckles]
Kelly Severide: Hey.
Renee Royce: We barely got a chance to say hello this morning,
and you seem so stressed, so I thought I’d come
and cheer you up. Now, my parents are a little too
excited about becoming grandparents. Oh… look
at this. Aw, come on! Isn’t this the sweetest?
Kelly… What’s going on with you?
Kelly Severide: Look, you know that I love you no matter what,
right? When you moved to Spain, we said that
we’d keep in touch but that we wouldn’t be
exclusive.
[sighs] Is there any chance this baby…
[slapping sound]
[door closes]
[knocks at door, door opens]
Chief Boden: Lieutenant? Arson just called. Wanted to let you
know that the cops have Big John in custody.
Kelly Severide: Thanks.
[door closes]
Kelly Severide: [sighs]
cutscene
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Hey, detectives are talking to him now. The
bastard’s even twitcher than I remember.
Kelly Severide: You got anything solid tying him to the fires?
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Nothing.
Man 3 (Big John): Hey, look. It’s the arson guy’s son.
Kelly Severide: Two buildings up in flames?
Man 3 (Big John): Ooh!
Kelly Severide: Do you know how many people you almost killed?
Huh, how many of my own men, huh?
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Kelly!
Man 3 (Big John): Get away from me!
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Kelly! Kelly!
Man 3 (Big John): Get him away! Get him away from me!
Man 1 (Ken Rowe): Get him out of here! Get him out of here!
Hey, I looped you in out of respect for your
father, as a courtesy. You understand?
cutscene
[water running]
Gabby Dawson: I’m telling you, Renee looked pissed running out
of here.
Leslie Shay: What if I was wrong about the due date?
Gabby Dawson: That would be bad, Shay.
Leslie Shay: I don’t think I was, but I’m not a frickin’ obstetrician.
[knocks on bathroom door]
Joe Cruz: Taking too long!
Otis Zvonecek: Remember, as McLeod said, “only 42 ounces of
potable water per employee per week.”
Joe Cruz: [chuckles]
Leslie Shay: Sounds like you saved the day with Griffin and Ben
this morning.
Gabby Dawson: [chuckles] Yeah. I love those boys, but hanging
there with Casey? It’s not exactly helping me
move on.
You know what? I have been travelling in a too
small a circle, if you know what I’m saying. The
world does not start and end at Firehouse 51.
Leslie Shay: That is so damn true.
[knocks on bathroom door]
Joe Cruz: Let’s go! I have seen you both naked a hundred times!
Just open the door, so I can take a shower!
Gabby Dawson: We really need to get out more.
Leslie Shay: Yes. Yes, we do.
cutscene
Kelly Severide: Hey.
Benny Severide: Hey.
Kelly Severide: Thanks for coming down.
Benny Severide: Thanks for calling. It’s good to see you.
Kelly Severide: You too.
Benny Severide: Could I… Could I get one of those too, please?
Woman 2 (Waiteress): Coming right up.
Benny Severide: Thank you.
Kelly Severide: Well, did you… did you talk to the guys at arson?
Benny Severide: Yeah. Yeah. As soon as Big John was on their
radar, Rowe called me.
Kelly Severide: Did you know they had him in custody? They let
him walk?
Benny Severide: Yeah. I heard that. The thing is, I’m not so sure
he’s the guy. M.O might be similar, but, uh, I
could tell him pretty well. I don’t see him having
the balls to set a car on fire right outside a
station house.
Kelly Severide: You’re wrong. All due respect, I think you’re
wrong. The guy, he-he knew me the minute he
saw me. I-he knew I was your son.
Benny Severide: Okay. Well, let me get in it with arson. See what I
can find out.
Kelly Severide: Yeah.
cutscene
Zoya: It’s good?
Joe Cruz: Perfection.
Zoya: [giggles]
Christopher Herrmann: Hey, you know Cruz is making a move on
your cousin, right?
Otis Zvonecek: Yeah. I would kick him out, but he’s the only
regular customer we have.
Gabby Dawson: Well, if it isn’t Mr. Long Island iced tea.
Jay Halstead: Mock all you want, but that drink suits this place.
Gabby Dawson: So you’re saying this place is out-dated, and we
only exist to get you drunk quick?
Jay Halstead: [laughs] No. More that, um, you’re fun and sweet
and unpretentious.
Gabby Dawson: Nice recovery.
[clears throat] There’s a scotch tasting happening
Friday night at a place in Wicker Park. Would you
want to join me?
Jay Halstead: I’d love to.
cutscene
Gabby Dawson: There was a definite hesitation before he said
yes.
Leslie Shay: But point being, he said yes.
Gabby Dawson: You should come to the tasting too. You could
bring someone.
Leslie Shay: [sighs] Calm down. I’m-I’m gonna be packing all
weekend. I-I can’t.
Gabby Dawson: Boo.
[cell phone vibrates]
Gabby Dawson: Who’s Amy R?
Leslie Shay: Oh, the, um, real estate agent I’m meeting with
tomorrow to see apartments, and I think she’s hitting
on me, but I can’t tell.
Gabby Dawson: [laughs] It’s kind of amazing how bad you are at
sussing out lesbians.
Leslie Shay: [chuckles] I know right?
[siren wails]
Man 4 (Husband): She’s in here! She’s in here!
I was in the other room, and I heard a thump.
She must have fallen down the stairs.
Leslie Shay: She’s breathing.
Gabby Dawson: Let’s get a C-collar on her and get her on the
backboard.
Did you…did you move her at all?
Man 4 (Husband): No. She was right there when I found her.
Man 5 (Brother): Oh, my God, Phoebe. What did you do to my
sister?
Man 4 (Husband): I didn’t do anything. She fell. Tell him! She fell!
Man 5 (Brother): He beats her up! Did he tell you that? He did this
to her.
Leslie Shay: Okay, sir. We gotta…
Gabby Dawson: Hey! Hey!
Man 4 (Husband): [grunts]
Gabby Dawson: (into radio) This is Ambulance 61. We need
immediate police assistance.
Man 4 (Husband): [grunts]
Leslie Shay: Hey, buddy? We can’t get your sister to the hospital
unless you stop that and move out of the way, all
right?
Gabby Dawson: He’s gonna kill him!
[sirens wailing]
Gabby Dawson: [grunts]
[vase shatters]
Leslie Shay: Oh, God.
Kevin Atwater (Police Officer): Hey!
Man 5 (Brother): [grunts]
Kevin Atwater (Police Officer): Move it.
Man 5 (Brother): [grunts & whimpers]
I told you cops he’d kill her if you didn’t stop
him.
[cries] Nobody listened!
Gabby Dawson: (into radio) Dispatch, we need a second ambo at
4042 Larrabee.
Dispatch: (over radio) Copy that 61. Second ambo en-route.
Man 5 (Brother): Please, don’t let my baby sister die!
Leslie Shay: You think that woman knew her husband was a total
scumbag before or after she married him?
Gabby Dawson: He could have pretended to be Prince Charming
for years, and she wakes up too late next to a
monster under the bridge.
Leslie Shay: Boy.
cutscene
Jeff Clarke: No, you know you are backing me into a corner here.
What happens when that…
Peter Mills: Oh, sorry to interrupt.
Jeff Clarke: Hold on. Hang on a second. I have to go in the other
room.
Peter Mills: Hey, you catch any of that? Clarke was lighting
somebody up on the phone.
Matt Casey: Personal business, I guess.
Peter Mills: I guess. Something seems off about that guy.
Matt Casey: Something besides him taking your spot on Squad?
cutscene
Christopher Herrmann: Remember, it’s not a speech. It’s a town
hall, so you have to be comfortable and
conversational to hold the audience’s
interest, and that’s where these come in.
They’re called key cards. They’re used
by some of the most successful public
speakers in the world.
Mouch: Key cards.
Christopher Herrmann: It’s stuff that we’ve all heard you spout
time and time again, you know, when
you’re getting yourself all worked up.
Mouch: I’d be more comfortable and-and conversational if I was
sitting.
Christopher Herrmann: Oh, well, then let’s get you a stool.
Hey! The town hall seat of choice.
Mouch: Okay. I can work with this.
Christopher Herrmann: Great. Give it a shot.
Mouch: Three man trucks.
Christopher Herrmann: And? What are your feelings about that?
Mouch: Well… only a pencil-pushing bureaucrat would think a
three-man truck is a good idea. You know, every study
they’ve done shows Search and Rescue times go right
down the toilet whenever you have fewer than five guys
on a truck. It’s common sense.
Fitness bonuses, reduced benefits – all stuff I have very
strong opinions about.
Christopher Herrmann: My brains, your face. We can take this
campaign all the way.
Mouch: [exhales]
cutscene
Matt Casey: Thanks for coming over. I really appreciate the help.
Gabby Dawson: Yeah. No problem. They’re great kids.
Matt Casey: Griffin barely ate.
Gabby Dawson: Well, I don’t blame him. He’s old enough to know
when grown-ups are hiding something from him.
He’ll be happy to get home.
Matt Casey: Good chance Friday’s my last night with him. You
want to come over for dinner? They’re a lot happier
when you’re around. We could order Chinese food,
get a movie.
Gabby Dawson: I can’t [laughs]
I can’t stay for a movie. I have a dinner thing.
Matt Casey: Oh, well… somebody has a hot date.
Gabby Dawson: Mm, no. It’s just a thing.
[doorbell rings]
Matt Casey: Hey.
Gabby Dawson: Antonio.
Antonio Dawson: I just got some bad news. Heather’s friend,
Jen… she didn’t make it.
Gabby Dawson: That’s terrible.
Antonio Dawson: Yeah, and it changes everything. Heather’s
looking at a manslaughter charge now.
cutscene
Heather Darden: Jen, uh… [chuckles] she taught me how to
roller-skate. I’ve known her since…
Matt Casey: It was an accident.
Heather Darden: [quivering] The lawyer said I’d spend the next
five to ten years in here unless I made a plea
deal.
Matt Casey: They don’t know that for sure. It was a first offense,
and you’re a single mom.
Heather Darden: I took the deal.
Matt Casey: What?
Heather Darden: I can’t risk being away from my boys for their
entire childhood.
[cries] I can’t. I pled guilty to DUI manslaughter,
which is 15 months. You know that before Andy
died, we put you in our wills as the boys’
guardian if something happened to us both.
[cries] Can you take care of Griffin and Ben
while I’m in here?
cutscene
[laughter]
Gabby Dawson: Yeah, that was a really good game.
Joe Cruz: No, for real, though. Let’s just play the game.
Matt Casey: Guys. Guys.
I, uh… I just wanted to give everybody an update on
the Darden boys. Turns out they’re gonna be living
with me for the next 15 months or so, and… The
thing is I’m gonna need some help. I, uh…
Christopher Herrmann: Say no more. We’re there.
Chief Boden: Whatever you need. They’re our boys too.
Matt Casey: Thanks.
cutscene
Christopher Herrmann: You got this, buddy. You’re no Greg
Sullivan. You’re a fireman’s fireman.
Mouch: Where’s the stool?
Christopher Herrmann: Um… Hey, you guys got any stools?
Mouch: I’m not comfortable, Herrmann.
Christopher Herrmann: Hey, take a deep breath.
[both take a deep breath]
Christopher Herrmann: You’re gonna be great.
Hey, guys! Uh, can we get your attention
over here? Just for a minute. Come on.
Mouch: Yeah, thanks. Uh… I’m Randall McHolland, and I am
running for Union president.
I’m here for, uh… to talk about some issues.
Three-man trucks.
[soda can opens]
Mouch: Three-man trucks?
Christopher Herrmann: Which studies show are far more
dangerous than five or six man trucks.
Mouch: Uh, wellness programs… dos and don’ts. Uh, do’s… and
don’ts.
Christopher Herrmann: Here, here. Try… try…
[Herrmann & Mouch murmuring]
[alarm blares]
Christopher Herrmann: Oh thank God.
(Over PA): Truck 65, Engine 118…
Firefighters: Sorry about that.
See ya.
(Over PA): … Ambulance 97. Multiple injuries.
Christopher Herrmann: Don’t worry about it. Okay? I mean, this
is just one of 98 houses in the city.
Mouch: Oh, actually now that McLeod has dropped her axe, it’s
97 and counting. I mean, who knows how many more
before she’s…
[siren wails]
Christopher Herrmann: Now you’re gonna get all worked up?
[siren wails off in background]
cutscene
Woman 3 (Amy): Bedroom has southern exposure, so it’s really
light in the mornings, which is not so great for
hangovers.
Leslie Shay: True, also not something the average realtor would
mention.
Woman 3 (Amy): Guess I’m not the average realtor.
Here, come check this out.
Built-in wine fridge.
Leslie Shay: Wow. Nice.
I have an ex-girlfriend who would have loved that.
Woman 3 (Amy): Sounds like a girl with good taste.
Leslie Shay: Not really. She ended up dumping me and going
back to her husband.
Woman 3 (Amy): Ugh, I’m gonna bet she’s regretted it every day
since.
Leslie Shay: Oh, God. I hope so.
Woman 3 (Amy): [laughs]
Leslie Shay: Yeah. You don’t have one of those, do you? A
husband?
Woman 3 (Amy): Hell, no. Not in this lifetime [laughs]
Leslie Shay: Okay.
cutscene
Kelly Severide: Hey, you’re back.
What are you doing?
Renee Royce: I went and got a, uh, a test done. That’s why I’ve
been gone. I had a, uh, one-night stand… with a
guy in Spain. I thought it would help me get over
you. It didn’t.
You were right. This baby’s not yours.
[sighs] I know how crazy this sounds, but I-I
wasn’t lying to you. And I actually convinced
myself that it was yours. It was ours.
Kelly, you’ll make a great father someday.
Kelly Severide: Ah… Renee [stammers]
Renee Royce: Good bye, Kelly.
cutscene
Leslie Shay: [exhales] Jeez. Is there anything I can do?
Kelly Severide: Honestly, I just need a place to live. Our place is
gone, right?
Leslie Shay: Yeah, but I’ve got an “in” with a-a great realtor and a
lead on a one-bedroom and a sweet three-
bedroom.
Kelly Severide: Yeah?
Leslie Shay: Yeah. We could take the three-bedroom and… find a
roommate later if we need. Sound good?
Kelly Severide: Yeah, sounds good.
Leslie Shay: All right. I’m sorry, babe.
[alarm blares & buzzes]
(Over PA): Truck 81, Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61. Building
fire, 2939 Cortland Street.
Peter Mills: That’s my restaurant.
[sirens wailing, horn honking]
Peter Mills: Ma!
Ma? Ma!
Ingrid Mills: [whimpers]
Peter Mills: You okay?
Ingrid Mills: I’m okay. We all got out, but Peter… everything’s
gone.
Peter Mills: No. No, we’re gonna save it, okay?
Hey, everybody’s out, but we got to get in there.
Chief Boden: No.
(into radio) All occupants are out of the building.
The fire is in the roof trusses. We are gonna go
defensive with master streams. Nobody enters
the building. Let’s get those water canons working.
Matt Casey: Cruz and Otis, raise the aerial.
Peter Mills: [under breath] Come on, come on…
Lt. Spellman: (into radio) Send the water!
Chief Boden: Mills.
Matt Casey: Mills!
Chief Boden: (into radio) Mills, I want you out of that building
right now. Do you understand me?
Ingrid Mills: Why-why is Peter in there alone? Wallace, you get
my boy out of there! You get him out of there!
Peter! Peter!
Chief Boden: Ingrid! We’ll get him.
(into radio) Mayday, mayday. We have a man inside.
Squad 3, go get him!
Kelly Severide: Come on.
[radio chatter]
Matt Casey: Otis, Mouch, charge the line and back us up.
Herrmann, with me.
[explosion]
Ingrid Mills: What the hell were you thinking?
Peter Mills: Dad’s medals.
Ingrid Mills: I do not need any damn medals. I need you.
Peter Mills: Ma, come on.
Chief Boden: You freelance like that, you will get yourself and
anyone else who was willing to go in after you
killed! Do you understand me?
Peter Mills: Wasn’t a kitchen fire, Chief.
[water spraying]
cutscene
Chief Boden: Ms. McLeod, what brings you here?
Gail McLeod: Chief Boden, I will be making weekly check-ins
with all the houses under my aegis, so I would like
to speak to everyone, if that’s all right. It’ll just take
a minute.
Chief Boden: Common room, ladies and gentlemen.
Gail McLeod: Thank you.
Kelly Severide: Mills. We’ll get the guy who set these fires.
Gail McLeod: This won’t take long. I just want to make sure that
we’re all on the same page, yeah?
Allowing visitors, especially children, to ride on any
of the apparatus is a serious violation of CFD
policy and a potential liability for the department.
Joe Cruz: How does she know that?
Gail McLeod: Now…
Christopher Herrmann: There’s a snitch in the house.
Gail McLeod: You can call me a killjoy if you’d like, but the
severity of this cannot be overstated.
Peter Mills: We’ve got bigger problems.
First your car. Now my restaurant.
Mouch: It doesn’t make sense.
Matt Casey: Mills wasn’t even on the job when Big John set
those first fires.
Kelly Severide: No, my-my pop’s right. It ain’t him.
It’s a firefighter.
Christopher Herrmann: What makes you so sure?
Kelly Severide: When I was looking at the dangerous building’s
map, it-it hit me that all the arsonist’s targets
were on there and in our district.
Otis Zvonecek: Except for the car and the diner.
Joe Cruz: So it’s a firefighter who’s got beef with all of us at 51?
cutscene
Ben Darden: Why can’t we go home?
Griffin Darden: I don’t know. I think… I don’t know.
Ben Darden: Where’s mom? What will happen?
Griffin Darden: I told you, I don’t know.
[knocks on door]
Matt Casey: Hey, guys. It’s… it looks like you’re gonna be living
here for a while with me.
Griffin Darden: You promised we were going home soon.
Matt Casey: That’s right, and I thought you were, but things
changed and, um, it’s gonna be this way for a while.
Ben Darden: Why can’t we go home?
Matt Casey: Because your mom isn’t there.
Griffin Darden: The kids at school said she’s in jail.
Matt Casey: She is. And I should have told you that sooner.
Ben Darden: I want to live in jail with her [cries]
I want to see my mom.
Matt Casey: Buddy, listen. You can’t live there, but, um, you can
visit. You guys can handle this.
Listen… those, uh, firefighters and paramedics at
51? Well, they’re your family too and they’re gonna
help me take good care of you guys. Okay?
Ben Darden: [sniffles]
Matt Casey: Come here, buddy.
cutscene
Jay Halstead: It’s pretty cool… being able to drink in a bar after
it’s closed.
Gabby Dawson: Grab a couple glasses, ‘cause I have a
champagne cognac in the back we are gonna
crack open.
Jay Halstead: Sounds great.
Gabby Dawson: Found it.
Jay Halstead: I can’t wait to try it.
cutscene
[background chatter, music playing]
Kelly Severide: Hey!
Kevin Hadley: [laughs] Severide. How are you, buddy?
Kelly Severide: I’m okay. Can’t complain.
Kevin Hadley: Good. Can I get you a beer?
Kelly Severide: Oh, no. I’m good. I’m good right now. Thanks.
Kevin Hadley: So what brings you around my stomping grounds?
Kelly Severide: Well, I was looking for you, actually.
Kevin Hadley: Oh, yeah?
Kelly Severide: Yeah. I was just thinking about some of the fires
we fought together. String of arsons on the
westside, barbershop, couple garages, that old
Italian restaurant on Diversey. You remember?
Kevin Hadley: Vaguely, yeah. You sure you don’t want one? I’m
gonna order another round.
Kelly Severide: Nah. I’m good, but I’ll tell you what. I got your
next round.
Kevin Hadley: So you came all the way out here just to, uh,
reminisce?
Kelly Severide: There’s been a bunch of similar fires the last
couple weeks. That’s what brought back the
memories. Reminded me you’re a damn good
firefighter.
Kevin Hadley: Yeah. I appreciate that. I do [laughs]
But I got to tell you… steady work has been pretty
hard to come by since I got pushed out of 51.
Kelly Severide: Look at me. Is that why you’re setting the fires?
Kevin Hadley: You think I’m setting the fires?
Well… I guess you better prove it.
Kelly Severide: I’m going to.
Be Careful | Christopher Herrmann
Request: could you do a herrmann imagine where the reader is his daughter who recently became 51s new candidate, and she’s a really good firefighter but gets badly hurt on a call and he’s worried and then in the hospital after she wakes up they talk and he says how proud he is of her or something soft like that?
Pairing: Christopher Herrmann x Daughter!Reader / Chicago Fire
Warnings: Injuries.
Author's note: Hi, from now requests are open again. If you have some suggestions for imagines about Halloween or something, feel free to ask❤️ All of the requests I got before will be posted in this and next week. I'm so sorry for taking this that long, but I have a hard time and school is making it only worse, I hope you understand.
Working with your dad wasn't the kind of thing you have always wanted. You were sure that life will bring you something unexpected, but you never imagined working in Chicago Fire Department at the same station with your dad. To be honest, it was awesome. You always had him by your side, you knew how his day went, you understood him like no one. Sometimes things were rough, especially when engine wasn't on the scene and he couldn't see how you're doing on the truck. From the first day he treated you like his colleague, he knew that he can't put his feelings over job, because that's the only way to get distracted. He trusted you, more than everything, especially when Casey was your capitan and always had your back.
You didn't like brining work to home, just like him, that's why your mom never pushed you to talk about hard call. This thing in your family worked pretty well.
"Hey dad, I was thinking, maybe you should go with mom tonight to the theatre or something? I can watch kids." you walked into break room after first call in the day.
"Uh, what's on your mind and how much money do you want?" he asked you.
"What? No, I just thought that you haven't been on a date for such a long time and now, when I got the night off I can stay with them." you hugged him from behind. He closed the newspaper and turned to look at you. He looked kinda confused and for sure, he didn't believe you. "Okay, if you don't want, you're staying with kids and I'm taking mom for a girl's night."
"Oh no no, that's not gonna happen, when you'll pick them?"
"I'll come home for a night. Gallo? What are you doing tonight?"
"Nothing, why?"
"You'll help me with my siblings, you owe me!" you said and walked out to the bathroom.
You stripped from your clothes and got to the shower. It was one of those day when after a case you're glad that everything in your life is going that way. You were happy, that was a sure thing. Even if something was missing, you couldn't notice that, because every single day you were surrounded by people who love you like a family member.
After you finish, you changed into fresh clothes, it was worthless after all, cause in every minute you could get a signal that you need to go, but comfort first.
You went back into break room, took some coffee and sat next to Christopher.
You were helping solving him the crossword.
"Herrmann, can I talk to you for a second?" Severide asked.
"Which one?" you and your dad asked in the same time.
"Not this time Y/N." you looked at him confused. Your father made his way to Kelly and looked kinda worried.
"So, I don't know how much things Y/N has told you but I'm sure you wanna know about this." you couldn't hear much of the conversation and you're glad, because it wasn't a right thing to listen to them, even if deep down you knew that conversation was about you.
"What do you mean Kelly? Something happened?"
"No no, everything is fine I think, it's just... Y/N applied to join the squad after finishing her being a candidate." now your dad looked confused and heartbroken?
"She never brought that around me. I thought that she's feeling okay on the truck."
"Yeah me too, but you need to know that I'm going to agree on this apply. She's an amazing firefighter and it would be nice to have her in squad. Besides, women know better, she would be really great. Don't worry, I'll always have her back, just like Casey did." Severide said.
"Yeah, thanks."
You finished your coffee and just in time you hard the alarm.
Quickly, you fixed your hair and got your uniform.
"Hey, Y/N? I heard that you want to join the Squad, congratulations." Casey said.
"Yeah, but... It's not a sure thing yet. I just really want to try, I hope you don't mind. I love being on the truck, but you know."
"Don't you dare think like this kiddo. I'm so proud of you and I'll always support you. You'll be great."
"Thank you, but please, don't tell my dad yet, I need to have this conversation with him on my own."
"Sure thing." he said. You looked at all the members in the truck. They were so happy that someone like you were with them, serving to the city and country. Gallo hugged you from the right side, while Mouch from the left.
"Okay guys, that's enough, you're gonna kill me with those hugs." you laughed.
You arrived on the scene and walked out of the truck. Casey gave you an order to stay behind him and to follow his movements.
The fire was spreading quickly, you saw a young woman running from the building.
"M-y my kids are in there, please, please help us..." she managed to say after she collapsed on the ground. You help Sylvie taking her to the ambo. Casey called you right after.
"Mask up guys, we're going on the second floor, Squad, you take the basement, engine cover us." you put your mask on and followed Matt. Stella and Blake were right behind you, calling and searching for people.
"Fire department, call out!" you yelled. Casey gave you an order to turn into right side while he and Stella will go on the left.
"The smoke is too dark, I barely see anything." Gallo said.
"Yeah me too, it's gonna collapse soon, we need to hurry." you answered, when you heard the loud crash and all you felt was a pain in your whole body. You couldn't breathe. Gallo was screaming your name and calling for backup.
"Mayday, mayday, Y/N Herrmann is down, the building just collapsed, she's on the first floor but her mask fell off, we need help."
Herrmann was standing with Boden next to the truck, helping with injuried people, while he heard Blake into his radio.
He couldn't think straight, he couldn't focus on what was happening.
Boden was holding him, because he couldn't let him go in there when building wasn't stable. After few minutes which last like hours, he saw Casey, Kidd, Gallo and Cruz walking out with you, while Severide held his mask at your face. You were unconscious and your head was bleeding.
"Guys, right here!" Sylvie yelled. They brought you on the stretcher. "She's not breathing and the pulse is weak."
Casey pulled your dad to let paramedics do their job. He was crying, but couldn't manage to say anything.
"Is-. She- she is okay? What happened? Casey, you promised to look after her." he asked.
"Hey, Herrmann. She was doing her job. I ordered her and Gallo to search that place, the floor wasn't stable and it collapsed. She has a broken leg and probably her arm is dislocated. They're taking her to Med, go with them." Herrmann made his way to the ambo. The whole ride was silent, his heart broke more after your heart stopped twice on the way.
"I can't loose you princess, please." he cried.
"She's tough, she's gonna be okay." Brett hugged him.
Hours passed by and nothing was said. They didn't know what was going on with you, you were in surgery for almost 4 hours.
"Casey? I'm sorry for what I said before. It wasn't your fault, I overreacted." your father said.
"It's okay, I get it."
"Herrmann?" Dr. Halstead appeared in the hall.
"How's she? Is she okay?"
"She's out of the surgery. She had a opened break on the leg, but everything is fine now. Also, she had a pretty bad head injury, but for now, we don't know if this caused any damages. We need to wait until she'll wake up.
"Can I see her?" he asked. Hall was filled with relief and some kind of happiness. You were alive and that was the only thing that matters.
"Yes, of course."
Herrmann walked into your room. When he saw all of those tubes and machines, his heart just broke. It all caused a painful flashbacks of his memories when he was stabbed. He took your hand and kissed it.
He spent almost 6 hours next to you, because he wanted to be with you when you wake up. Your mom was there too. She brought him fresh clothes and something to eat.
"D-dad?" he immediately woke up.
"Hey honey, I'm right here." he helped you with taking piece of hair of your face.
"What happened? Where am I?" you asked.
"Rough call you would said. Listen Y/N, I'm so sorry that I wasn't there, maybe if-"
"Dad, please stop. It's okay, I'm fine, hey. I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere soon."
"Mom is here too, but I told her to get some coffee for us, I'll go to tell her that you woke up, should I get the nurse too? Maybe dr. Halstead? Are you in pain?"
"Dad, sit down, now. I'm okay, really."
"Oh sweetie. I'm so glad that you're okay. When I saw you, when they took you... I was so afraid that I'm gonna loose you. But deep down I knew... I knew that you're one of the kind, my daughter, who will handle everything on her own. I knew that you're gonna make it, you're so tough. I couldn't be more proud babygirl. I'm so happy that I'm the one who you call dad." he cried. You showed him to come closer and you hugged him tightly.
"Oh my god, baby, you woke up!" now Cindy walked into your room. You all hugged and stayed like this for couple of minutes.
"Um, right. Y/N, your mom and I need to tell you something."
"Please don't make me want to almost die again, are you pregnant?" they laughed.
"No, oh god no. We wanted to tell you that we're so excited that you want to join the squad."
"What? But how? I swear I'll beat his ass."
"Severide told me yesterday. He's so happy to have you there and we're too. You need to know that no matter what, we'll always support you sweetheart. We love you."
"I love you too."
What if Shay and Severide went through with the artificial insemination, have a set of twins and then the Season 2 finale happens?
This wasn’t supposed to happen. Yes, they talked about what would happen if something happened to one of them. But Kelly always thought it was in case type of situation. Something that would never happen and if it did? It would be something that happened to him. Not Shay. Never Shay... How the hell was he meant to take care of two babies by himself? Be a single dad?
Part 6
It's been a few days since your date night with Jay. It went much better than you expected. You knew from the start that Jay is a good guy and probably a sweet lover too. But after that night, you found out that there's more to him than his good look and easy-going attitude. Jay's gentleness soothes your insecurities. His understanding warms you from inside. It's hard to feel miserable when he's around. You cannot help but latch on to him.
You and Jay keep texting and calling each other every day, but you only got to meet him once since then. For a coffee date before he ran to work while you went for your PT session. His job doesn't leave a lot of spare time, so you relish all the time he spends with you.
You hear your phone rings when you have your lunch. There is a video call request from your best friend and work-mate, Alex. "Hey, you! I miss your stupid face!" you greet him.
"You know what's not stupid?" Alex ignores your greeting. "The new material I received this morning
He refers to an email you sent him last night. Instead of sleeping, you wrote some lines and tinkered some notes on your electric keyboard. It was still very rough, but you and Alex swap ideas all the time. They could be a bar of melodies or chord progressions. Or maybe a single line that you cannot get out of your head, even there's no context to it.
"Wanna work on it soon?" Alex proposes.
"Yeah, sure!" you easily agree.
"You know I'm gonna ask how you come up with that song idea, right?" Alex probes further. He got an idea about your sudden burst of inspiration, but you haven't told him anything yet so far.
"You can ask. I might not answer", you nonchalantly retort. "Are you asking now?"
"I would, but I just arrived at my parents' house for our weekly dinner", Alex turns his camera phone and shows you his family dining table. "Say hi to Y/N, Pop" He lets his parents know that you're on the phone.
"Hallo, Liefje" Alex's parents greet and wave at you. "I miss you, Y/N. How are you doing, darling?" Alex's mom squeals at you.
"I miss you guys too. I miss home," you utter mournfully.
"I saw your dad last week. He and your mom cannot wait to have you back home next month. As are we." Alex's dad informs you.
Your face gets even more upset. "I haven't told my parents yet, but it's gonna be another two months. It's not working out as good as they wanted"
Alex's parents let out a sympathetic noise. "Oh great, I still have two more months to hide all my chocolate from you" Alex teases you instead. He knows if he doesn't throw any humor here, you're going to weep. The family laughs at your offended look.
"Where's Sara?" you ask them when you didn't notice Alex's little sister on the table.
"She's getting ready for a date after dinner. Said they will go stargazing. Can you believe it?" Alex skeptically recounts to you.
"Hmm, that sounds romantic. Good for her." you hum your appreciation. Alex can see twinkles in your eyes.
"Of course, you thought it was charming", Alex sounds vexed.
"Why are you so grumpy about this? You have a hit song that compared someone's eyes with the moon", you remind him. "Last time I checked, that song already got more than 400 million streams on Spotify". Alex just grumbles incoherently, while you can hear his father's booming laugh in the background.
"Alex, would you please call your sister down for dinner?" Alex's mom orders him.
"Alright, ma. Gotta go, Y/N. I'll call you later when I'm back at the studio. Bye, sis!" Alex ends the call.
Kelly Severide comes to your place in the evening after he finished his shift. He called you on your cell several times, but you didn't pick them up. He knocked on your door for a few minutes without answers. Worried that something bad happened to you, he uses his key to open your apartment door. You gave him a spare when you began your recovery from the incident. Since you got nobody in town except for the 51 Family, you thought at least one of them should have access to your place, in case you need help.
Kelly sees you sitting on your corner desk with headphones on. Your head is nodding to the beat you're working on. Relieved to know you okay, but feels a bit annoyed, Kelly taps your shoulder lightly. You jump in surprise, almost fall from your chair if Kelly doesn't hold you down.
"Kelly! What..! Why are you..??" your heart is still pounding in shock, makes you unable to finish your thoughts properly.
"I knocked! And called you many times! Neither you answered! I was afraid that you fell and unconscious so I used my key", Kelly exclaims.
You check your phone and see seven missed calls from Kelly. "Sorry, I left my phone on mute, somehow"
Kelly goes to raid your fridge and takes a bottle of apple juice. "Your fridge needs beers" he judges. "Go, get ready! We'll hang out at Molly's. Everyone misses you", Kelly orders you.
"I'm working, Kelly. Just because my work has no shifts, doesn't mean I can go anytime you want", protest you.
"You work for your best friend, who's in another continent right now. You can slack off for a bit" he dismisses your complaint.
"I'm making big progress here. My writing juice is flowing", you point at your laptop.
"One hour. I give you one hour to work. Then I'm hauling you out of here. In the meantime, I'm gonna order take out for us", Kelly decides.
You only mumble your disagreement, knowing that you're gonna lost the argument anyway. So you just put your headphones back on your head. However, Kelly pokes you again five minutes later, with his phone on hand, "Hey, do you want Thai or Greek? I'm in the mood for Greek right now", Kelly playfully asks you.
"Yeah, Greek is fine" you start to feel bothered.
He leaves to order the food while you're back to do your work. Ten minutes passed, Kelly drags a chair from the kitchen island to your side. He knocks on the table to catch your attention.
"Hey, I just remember, Brett said they saw you rescued somebody at the swimming pool last week. How did that happen?" he questions.
You let out a desperate sigh. "You're not going to let me work in peace, are you?"
Kelly just grins. "C'mon, we haven't hung out for a while. Lots of drama to share"
You save your work in defeat and then move to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. Kelly sits on the couch with legs resting on the coffee table. You place yourself next to Kelly.
"They extend my therapy for another month" you restlessly play with your bottle cap.
"Is it not going well?" Kelly asks in concern.
"I got cramps that day at the swimming pool. They worried I damaged something. So they prefer to be cautious" you fill him in.
"That's when you rescued Dr. Manning's son " Kelly tries to clarify.
"Well, I just pulled him out of the water. The pool guard was the one who helped him breathe" you shrug.
"You assisted. It still counts as a rescue", Kelly insists. "Bet if Dr. Manning knew, she would buy you drinks at Molly's forever"
"More like got invited to dinner at their place," you mutter.
"Hmm, that's probably true" Kelly pauses for a moment, thinking. "Wait, did you meet her?" he grills you.
"Yeah. And her fiancé. I came to the hospital to check on Owen. Then next thing I knew I'm having family dinner with Manning/Halstead clan", you convey to him.
Kelly's phone chirps interruptedly. "Food's here" He goes to pick up the food from the delivery guy. "Alright, let's eat then we can go to Molly's"
Jay is nursing his first beer as he watches Will bottoms up his third glass of whiskey. Will called him earlier in the evening, claimed that he needs bro night out after a shitty day at Med. Jay's initial plan to have dinner with you got scrapped before he even asked.
"Maybe you need to pace yourself, Will", Jay suggests to him as Will signs to Otis for a refill.
"Yeah, Doc. Maybe you want to switch? We have a nice Dutch craft beer chilling here", Otis offers. But Will is still holding out his empty glass to him, silently demanding for more. "Okay then" sighs Otis as he fills the glass.
Jay hears the commotions at the other end of the bar. He recognizes some people from Firehouse 51 there. Christopher Hermann is cackling, while Matt Casey grins widely. They pay attention to someone that is sitting among the group, but he cannot see who because Severide is blocking his view.
Jay checks his phone while he finishes his beer. He received a text from you beforehand, told him that she's going out to meet her friends tonight. He texted back, wishing her to enjoy her night out, but got no replies. Will notices Jay's scrolling on his phone and asks, "Do you need to go back to work?"
"Nah, just checking my texts" Jay puts his phone back in his pocket. "Are you feeling better now?"
"Not in the slightest. But I still have to go to work tomorrow. If I wanna do better than today, I cannot do that with a hangover" Will sulks. "Hey Gabby, I would like to try that craft beer Otis suggested" he requests to Gabby who passes by.
"Would you like one as well, Jay?" Gabby offers him.
"Alright, why not.." Jay accepts the new bottle.
"Is this a new batch? Don't think I ever have it here before", comments Will after his first sip.
"Yeah! Just start to come in this month. It's a friend's favorite. She hooked us up with a supplier directly from The Netherlands. You like it?" Gabby enthusiastically claims.
"It's good. But still not Bourbon", Will pouts. Jay lets out a snort while Gabby snickers.
Jay looks around the bar as he savors his beer. He paused when he thought he saw you sitting among the 51 Gang. Will notices and looks in the same direction. "Is that Y/N?" asks Will.
Jay stands up for his seat, "I'm gonna go say hi to her"
◢◤
You feel a palm pressed to your back as you hear someone's saying from behind, "Didn't expect to see you here tonight"
You turn your back immediately as you realize whose voice it is, "Jay!" shout you excitedly. You open your arms to hug him. Jay lands a chaste kiss on your lips before hugs you back.
Kelly and Matt look at each other over your head with eyebrows raised. "Well, that's something I didn't expect" goads Kelly.
"Severide, Casey" Jay gives them an acknowledging nod with his hands stay on your hips.
"How do you know each other?" Matt asks curiously.
Jay opens his mouth to reply, but you hear Will's interruption, "You guys finally made it, huh?" Jay rolls his eyes at his brother.
"These guys have been sending heart-eyes at each other since they first met" Will tips off the 51 gang. "Which I arranged, by the way. But this result was unintentional"
"No, we're not!" you try to deny.
"I was there, Y/N, at your almost first kiss" Will divulges.
"Oh my god!" you hide your blushing face behind your palms. Jay smacks a kiss on the side of your head, amused while the group makes fun of you.
"I guess this happened after Y/N rescued Owen?" Sylvie asks to confirm.
"Ooooh yes, our next year candidate!" Hermann yells. The others just clap and whistle in response. You thud your head to the bar table, abashed.
"Hey, don't be embarrassed. We are proud of you" Casey remarks. "That said if you want to go to the academy..." he continues.
"Nuh-uh, I love my job, thank you very much" you quickly state.
You spend the rest of the night beside Jay, chatting and laughing with 51 Family and Halstead brothers until you let out a big yawn. "Tired?" Jay asks you softly.
You nod, "Beer always made me sleepy"
"Let me settle the tabs, then I'll take you home" Jay squeezes your shoulder as he stands up.
Kelly observes you and Jay throughout the night. When Jay left your side, he lowly speaks to you after making sure everyone else is busy conversing elsewhere. "So Jay Halstead is the one who got your juice's flowing, huh?"
"Kelly!" you slap his arm, agape.
"I mean your writing juice! You said it earlier!" Kelly yelps, but his smirk contradicts his words.
"You're the worst" you just shake your head.
Kelly's face turns serious for a moment, "Does he know about your situation?"
"What situation?" you try to sound innocent, but Kelly just gives you a look.
"Told him about the collapsing stage" you deflated.
"Have you told him that you're leaving in two months?" Kelly pushes.
"It's still too early. Who knows, Jay might end this soon", your voice sounds unsure.
"Don't think so. He looks quite smitten by you. Should probably tell him soon", Kelly disagrees.
"I'm happy right now, Kels. Can I just enjoy this for a while?" you start to lose patience with him.
"He deserves to know" Kelly persists.
You look down at the table, your fist is clenched in frustration. Jay comes back and notices the tense atmosphere. "Is everything okay?"
You reply with a forced smile, "Yeah, let's get out of here" then stand up from your seat and give Kelly a quick hug, "Thanks, Kels"
You move to say goodbye to the rest of the group, which takes a bit of time since everyone wants a hug or has something to tell you.
"C'mon guys, my boyfriend has waited long enough" you cry out when Sylvie and Gabby hold you back from going. The group guffaw even louder and playfully nudges Jay, who just beams brightly at you.
"Good night, guys!" you casually shout, finally getting away from the rest of the group, with Jay's hand in yours.
Sylvie and Stella are going on a weekend girls’ trip. Foster set it up as a way for the three of them to have a real chance for quality time. Life over the last few years has been nonstop for everyone.
It’s been a series of promotions and weddings and babies — Firehouse 51 has never had more reasons to celebrate.
But, as a result, the trio was left with only a single once a week phone call that was often interrupted by a kid or a significant other. Foster had finally had enough, so the girls were going out of town. Which leaves Matt and Severide with the kids.
“Are absolutely certain you can handle this?” Sylvie asks, twisting her watchband as she waits by the front window.
Stella will be picking her up to go to the airport any minute now. Matt has already reassured her numerous times that he’ll be fine.
He wraps a hand around her wrist, covering her watchband. “We’ll be fine. I don’t want you to worry about anything.”
