I think one of the more insidious beliefs I had to deconstruct imo is that "negative" emotions, especially anger, are sinful/bad. It's not beneficial to believe any emotions are inherently evil and need to be avoided at all costs, but anger specifically gives information about mistreatment, injustice, boundaries being crossed, disrespect, etc. People that are dissociated from their anger are that much easier to control. It's much easier to get away with harming people that struggle to identify when they're being harmed, and who can easily be called "sinful" when they do identify it.

thinking about "it's unreasonable to assume that a character knows what genre they're in" and how in series 1-3, Merlin (and the audience) thinks that he's in a fantasy adventure comedy. no one realises that he's in a tragedy until it's too late.

Every person needs a game they've sunk 200+ hours into that they hate and would absolutely never recommend to anyone else or something similar. Whether it's a show you've watched too many times to count, a book you've hate-read until the spine is broken, or something else similar, there is hardly anything purer than the hatred that comes from knowing something deeply inside out.

tbh an important part of my take on the 'don't be like Sentinel' question is that hours earlier D16 had very decidedly assumed leadership of the High Guard, after which any attempt at resolving his very understandable personal trauma via murder was also, on a wider affects-everyone/your-new-power-means-something scale, inherently going to count as a military coup.

it's wild that for how much evangelical culture harps on humans being evil and horrible and depraved and wicked and sinful simply by nature of existing as a human, you're really not allowed to make mistakes, even (and possibly especially) as a child

and it's wild what they consider "a mistake" and "sin"

it's genuinely disturbing that i was told jesus never cried as a baby because "a baby's first sin is crying for attention". fellas is it sinful to have the instinct to want your caregivers to take care of you?
