My region sort tuning + mini-tutorial to do your own!

So... in the [senni]RegionSortTuning you will find *.package file with a region sort as follow:

You can also make your own region sort tuning. You will need sims4studio and a text editor i. e. notepad or (better) notepad++ but simple windows notepad will do too

So, step by step...

0. First download sims4studio at sims4studio.com and file XML_FILES_RegionSortTuning.zip form here. Unzip XML_FILES_RegionSortTuning.zip and then open sims4studio

1. click on "tools" then "extract tuning" and wait a little bit. 2. then search for Client_RegionSortTuning

3. choose RegionSort/Client_RegionSortTuning 4. and click "add to current package. Program will show you the window to choose a directory and name for yours new file

5. We will only need a Sim Data type so click on Tuning 6. and then "delete" 7. and comfirm with "ok"

8. find  [_CLEAR_]545AC67A!0057C8BA!4975267B03EE62E8.Client_RegionSortTuning.SimData.xmlOR545AC67A!0057C8BA!4975267B03EE62E8.Client_RegionSortTuning.SimData.xml  on your computer and right click it

(i'm reccomending the '[_CLEAR_]' one because I don't know how game will react with comments in code. Don't mind diffrent file in screens, I made them before coming with and idea of clear-without comment version)

9. Choose "Notepad" or "Notepad++" and change the order of

records (i.e.

10. Go back to sims4studio and click "import" then choose your edited file 11. then "save"

12. and you're done! Remember to copy your file to the mod directory! ../documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods

Hi! I read avout your gameplay style and really like it! I would like to play rotationally more but I also like having chaotic new relationships happening with NPCs. So I wondered: do your sims only interact with the one you created and do you regularly delete the other NPCs? Also, I am curious about your mccc settings to be able to set up mine. 👀

Hi Joy!! This was the most time-consuming for me to figure out how to manage/manipulate in my game. I think the best way to start answering your question is to define the difference between "townies" and "NPCs" in my gameplay. Townies: These are families, couples, roommates, ts4 families, and, for me, the households from Strangetown and Veronaville. They usually have a backstory of some sort. I don't typically play these households; they're there for my sims to interact with, and if I develop more interest in the townie, I may add them to the rotation. Malcom Landgraab is a great example. He originally wasn’t in my rotation. Nina became pregnant with his son. Then via random autonomy Malcolm proposed to move in. So it naturally occurred for me to add him.

I will also age up the households if my sims have any relationship with someone. Similar to "age up my friends" from ts2. I particularly do this with my households from Veronaville and Strangetown. For example when I moved in Malcom I add a few days to his life span to make it make sense for about how many days have passed for my played sims. I found a mod for this! See below!!

Additional Examples: Kaylynn Langerak and Gordon King as townies. Popular townies from ts2. NPCs: These are sims who fill specific roles in the universe, and the game must have these NPCs worldwide. Bartenders, firefighters, nurses, doctors, maids, butlers, etc. For NPCs, I use simmaddness NPCs on the gallery to fill these roles. (See more information below.) I typically don't touch these households once they're in my game. Creators @anotherplumbob - anotherplumbob's amazing save file includes townies. However, not every world is populated. This is where I used simmaddness as a resource to help populate my world. If you use this save file and don't populate the world, you will have ATROCIOUS-looking NPCs because the game will auto-populate new sims to fill the required roles. (You can also use MCCC to help minimize that impact.)

@simmaddness - simmaddness makes AMAZING remakes of tons of the sims 4 households. AND as if that wasn't enough, they also have toooooons of NPCS already grouped and made for your game, so you can always keep track of which ones are in your game. (You'll need to turn off culling using MCCC so the game doesn't start going through and delete unplayed households.) You can find simmaddness creations on the gallery: simmaddness

MCCC - ofc! What will be the easiest for me is to make a separate post with all my settings. I'll also look into getting a sims share file account and upload my settings there so y'all can download my saved settings.

Home Regions by Kuttoe - I use this mod to help keep my worlds from being overcrowded. For example- I don't want the mascot or vampires showing up in Willowbrook. This mod allows me to control who shows up where- ESPECIALLY with NPCs/townies. In fact, I can tell which townies belong to what world, and they will STAY in that world. You can also allow the townies to show up bi-directionally. So, for example, in my game, all the occults can visit each other's world freely, but they can't just pop over to Willowbrook. I also use this mod to allow my sims from Pleasantview, Strangetown, and Veronaville to interact with each other and show up in the neighborhoods. Disclaimer: I haven't figured out how to work around this, but when I use simmaddness NPCs, they don't always appear in the right town. For example, I have three bartenders NPC. Those three NPC bartenders are supposed to be used for every bar in every world. That doesn't always happen, likely due to a setting in Home Regions because I need to tell the game to allow that NPC to show up in all worlds. So, definitely play around with the settings on this. It doesn't totally reduce the number of random sims generated for me, but it does curb it significantly. When a new NPC is created, I'll try and make a note of the sim name- or just into CAS and change their name to their assigned role, and eventually, I'll move them into my NPC household. (Example: I go to a bar, a new bartender is spawned, I will edit/make a note of the bartender, and later go into world manager and move them into the bartender NPC household.)

Townie Demographics by Kuttoe - This mod works with Home Regions. It helps keep each neighborhood feeling unique and has many other cool features. townieoverhaul_lessfame by Sims4Me - This one does what I described Kuttoe's mod does. I suspect you can use both together, but you can also use either. Kuttoe's mod gives you more control over assigning townies. Whereas this mod will just manage the NPCs automatically. You can achieve that with Kuttoe's mod, too. You'll just have to play around with the settings. Side note: you'll also need Get Famous to make it work Let Friends Age Up - LitteMsSam - This will allow you to age up friends of your played sims. For example, when I aged Beau to a teenager, I could also age up Button from Veronaville without going into the household! High School More Classmates by Aramitus - I use this high school mod to set which of my townies will spawn at the school and any of the NPCs: janitor, teachers, etc. I definitely recommend watching this YouTube video as a guide to setting up.

Disclaimer: Because of Home Regions, you'll have to play around with the settings and ensure the write NPCs have access to Copperdale. I still have difficulties getting everyone to show up, so I've given up getting it to work perfectly and got it good enough for me.

Aaaand that's how I do my townies and NPCs. It can definitely be a lot to set up. Honestly, I'm still figuring this out and tweaking my neighborhoods always. (With Home Region, click on the townie and specify where you want the sim.) So don't feel like you have to have all this perfect before you start playing.

I tried to visualize Black Spire Valley and its surroundings. The map isn't looking any good, but I posted it anyway because it serves as a demonstration how the semi open world can be both a blessing and a curse. (And also of why "keep sims in their homeworlds" mods aren't working for my gameplay style.)

The list is formatted like this: Map key - Name of the resion in my story (Sims 4 world used)

A - The planet MOONWOOD

A - The Moonwood with the ruins of failed settlements (Moonwood Mill, Forgotten Hollow and the forest neighborhood of Henford)

A1 - Moonwood Jungle region (Selvadorada)

Not pictured - Dreadhorse Cavern, directly opposite of the jungle (Chestnut Ridge, but only Dreadhorse Cavern with the little creek)

B to H - The planet BATUU

B - Black Spire with space port and downtown (Batuu First Order district and Cantina disctrict) Most of the npcs live here in my headcanon.

Black Spire is the highest point on the map.

C - The forest west of Black Spire (Glimmerbrook, without Magic Realm) Many npcs live here scattered on several farms.

D - The Resistance camp in the forest (Batuu Resistance camp)

E - The countryside east of Black Spire Hank with his family lives here. (Willow Creek Park district plus a single lot from Chestnut Ridge that is used for the public bath)

F - Black Spire Valley (countryside neighborhood of Henford) My main families live here: Tico, Dree and Dameron. The actual town Henford isn't used for anything yet - on the map I copied Black Spire over it to show this.

G - The Chestnut Ridges This is where the horse races took place and where the park with the chess boards is. (Chestnut Ridge upper district)

The diner and the orchard are placed in the Chestnut Ridges, but in-story the diner is in Black Spire (B) and the orchard somewhere in the countryside (most likely H)

H - More countryside Caroline and John live here. (Chesnut Ridge lower district)

J - VALARA, a moon of Batuu Kylo lives here alone. (Oasis Springs, and there specifically the dinosaur neighborhood and Stargazer lounge. Other sections of this world may be used to represent different planets later)

K - The planet HOTH (snowed over neighborhood of Mount Komorebi)

L - The planet CEREA (the other two neighborhoods of Mount Komorebi)

M - The abandoned Jedi temple The temple is "somewhere on Batuu" and it is inferred that it takes anything from a few hours to several days travel to get here from Black Spire. No description of the biome surrounding it was given in the story so far. (Willow Creek, Oakenstead neighborhood, but I can move this around if needed)

Hello everyone... We are starting round VIII today and Sims 2 is turning 20 this week. Happy birthday, TS2! I'm really glad we still have so many active mod creators who make my gameplay possible. Thank you everyone. I'm going to be honest, without mods I prefer TS3.

Sadly, the ROS for the Tia family was quite unfortunate and not a reason to celebrate at all. I even wanted to delay this scenario till next round, but decided against this idea in the end. I really don't want my sims to die in every post, but this death also led me to add new sims and a new 'region' to my game, so something good did come out of it...

I started the round by adding the Garas family to my town (you can see them in the previous post). It is quite funny, but when I rolled the ROS for the new family, the scenario I got was to add sims, so fate clearly wanted me to add some new blood too. The first part of this post describes me playing the Garas family. There really isn't much, but you can get to know them a little bit.

It turned out very quickly that Sosen's one true hobby was Cuisine and she was really obsessed with it. She wanted to skill up all the way to level 4 and she liked serving bread and grandma's comfort soup to everyone all the time. Also, for some reason Sosen really didn't like her little brother, even after she taught him the nursery rhyme.

Her father Phaesi wanted to work in the Business career (which I have default replaced now so it's more like a career for merchants). But the career didn't appear in the paper, and he really wasn't merchant class (probably yeoman at most?). He also rolled a want to get a robot station as well as a toy station, so he will probably end up becoming a blacksmith of sorts. I think having something to do with metal makes sense for people whose surname means bell ringer.

I am not taxing the Garases because they just moved in and they needed a dowry immediately. By MCC rules it would be 800$ for yeoman dowry, but since it's ToT it's going to be 1000$ dowry for a plebeian marrying into a patrician family.

Sosen and Zephaniah met at the bathhouse (they met through a 'changing screen' and I thought it looked hilarious, as if it was some blind date).

Peregrina, Tias' servant, was part of the welcome wagon, so I used it as a pretext to summon Zephaniah over to Sosen's temporary home. {Yes, I placed down the Garas family in a pyramid for now, even though I knew that it made no sense, but I liked using the pyramid as a decoration}.

Sosen's dad Phaesi met her beloved and his dad Zet and he made friends with both of them so that the young lovers' union would be blessed. I played the Garases for ~3 days, after which Sosen was moved in with the Tias. I know the time isn't perfectly synced for all of them, but at least it was Wednesday on both lots when I left 'Sim Egypt'.

Sosen got pregnant and her baby will be totally healthy. Hooray because Zephaniah doesn't have much time left... He was unwell last round, but this time a really deadly ROS got him. Zephaniah was originally supposed to live till his elderly years and I really wanted him to at least pass on his genes.

The baby is a girl, and unfortunately, Sosen dies due to complications really bad birth rolls. Because Zephaniah also dies, the newlyweds are dying together, and I'm going to say it's because their organisms couldn't stand the journey between the two 'countries' (or Sosen's body couldn't accommodate fast enough).

While I don't care it's a baby girl, and not a baby boy, what it means is there is noone left to pass on the Tia last name. Tane's surname is not Tia, but Siew. So technically this family (name) will 'die down'. It didn't survive the test of time. To be honest I don't really mind it, because I have another family with a very similar name (Tian), even if they are not related at all yet.

I named the baby Demiana. She's a Sagittarius: 4 Sloppy (like mom), 2 Shy (less outgoing than both parents), 7 Active (like dad), 9 Playful (like dad), and 6 Nice (like mom). She has blue eyes and blond hair like her grandfather Zet. I believe she inherited her mother's cheekbones and she's not going to be the most beautiful sim ever but that's fine.

Rana aged up and she's a Popularity sim. She aged up when she was already on her period, but I think something went wrong because she didn't get the memory, so I guess that didn't count, which is fine. She is in no rush to get married.

Tane is a Pleasure sim (like his mom was).

His younger sister Sen is a Knowledge sim. She aged up at the very end of the round. Sen has 9 Creativity points (she wants to max it out) and only 1 Charisma. She's supposed to max both these skills out before she is allowed to marry the emperor, so it might take a while...

Rana and Tane got a joint birthday party again, but Sen (and baby Demiana) didn't, partly because it was a workday and Zet was not home.

On the night when Rana and Tane aged up Jonah's ghost showed himself. He claimed 2 lives before I sent him to the graveyard (technically only Sosen died instantly, of fright, and Zephaniah died of starvation).

I really need to play the Siews again because the siblings have caught up to their aunt Yune's age...

I didn't mention it before, but I needed to move Peregrina and her baby out when I moved Sosen in so she could have her baby. After the newlyweds sadly passed away, I moved the servant back in, so that she would take care of the babies, and help the family take care of the mess Jonah's ghost left. Sims who died of drowning really are the worst.

Zet Tia got promoted and he wanted to learn a skill, so I had him work on what he needed for his last promotion (before I would give him the job stopinator). On the very next day he got promoted again, for the final time, and now he's Gentleman of the Bedchamber, earning 1008$ a day. I know by the rules 1000$ is the salary cap for them, but that's good enough for me.

Zet earned 861$ + 1722$, then 1008$ + 2016$ promotion bonus. And on the last day of the round he got a regular paycheck of 1008$, bringing him to the total of 6615$. This is definitely the most he will ever earn per season. From now on he will only be getting his daily pay of 1008$.

They are paying:

3000$ - rent

662$ - tax (10%)

662$ - tithe

= 4323$ total, rounded down to 4300$. There is 30,280$ in town's funds now. And I have actually already added a new community lot I really shouldn't have, but it's just a beach lot with a pier... I should really build a temple instead.

They also got a 1000$ dowry, but I don't tax that. I could maybe make them pay a wedding fee, but it's not like they had a ceremony on a community lot or anything. I will probably make them pay a big burial fee when I move Sosen and Zephaniah's graves to the cemetery, because I had to make the Tias' part of the graveyard bigger...

COLOR ARCHETYPES CHALLANGE 🌈 (Legacy Challenge :3) Info; This can be a completely base game challenge, bcuz why do all the rich people get to have all the fun??? This is similar to the Not So Berry challenge, with certain colors for sims and aspirations need to be filled out and jobs that need to be done. But with this challenge, we're going through the rainbow of colors and their archetypes/associations. There's two paths you can choose for this, negative and positive connotations. You can do one or the other, or maybe both if you wanna go through with that ;] Oh also be warned, I don't play the sims often. So I barely have an idea about any sort of achievements in this game... I don't know the collections you can get or any sorts o that stuff. Also I've never made a sims 4 challenge before, and have only dipped my toes in other challenges (b4 realizing SO many of them used packs I do not have and got sad and stopped). So, uh, hope you enjoy my first ever challenge tehe

Rules;

The sims looks need to be based around their colors, they need to REPRESENT their colors. So the red sim needs to wear red, orange wears orange, etc etc. (but ig this can be optional, if you're boring. Hehe, jk jk, but cmon man, this is like half the fun!)

Cheats can be used, but not excessively, and nothin that like makes the entire challenge just pointless. Don't cheat your way through jobs or aspirations >:/. But you wanna use a money cheat to get yoself a good house? Go ahead. You don't wanna wait like five years for your sim to give birth? Yeah just speed that baby up. Because I get it, I'm not a patient person either. you want that shit DONE.

Live wherever you please idfc, probably won't be any specified regions to live since there's like- what? 3? 4? in base game?? Yeah do whatever you want

Obviously, generation based. Not really a tradition Legacy challenge since the rainbow is like only six colors, so it'd only be six generations instead of 10. But yk if you wanna do 10 gens, add a few extra colors. Aka, six generations is yo minimum

Like every other legacy challenge, the generations gotta complete both the career and the aspiration. Bla bla bla bet ya know that already

Keep lifespan on normal. like yeesh, challenge yourself a bit. But if you forget uhm uh uh um whoopsy daisy, idc, I'm not the challenge police

Uhhhhh feel free to tweak this challenge if you'd like, or remix it to your pleasing. This is just a silly thing I decided to make because I'm poor and can't afford 40 dollar packs to do some challenge. If you rrrrich people wanna add some shit from your fancy little packs go ahead idc

Oh yeah and also this is color archetypes. The the the sims are based on the archetypes of colors. There's two different playthroughs, negative and positive. Yeah, we ARE actually going this route. This is a traditional valued family. Sorry.

You actually don't gotta master the career or complete the aspiration.. I think it makes more sense if you didn't.. just try to get through life man.

Get your painting skill up but don't master it, and only paint sad paintings

Don't let your charisma or comedy skill go past level 5 Generation six: Purple 🟪 After being raised by blue, I think this only makes sense. Purple is a very emotional and sensitive color. It can be arrogant and immature. It can evoke frustration and sadness. Traits: Gloomy, erratic, hot-headed Aspiration: Bestselling Author Career: Writer (Author branch, specifically.)

Whenever sim is feeling a negative emotion, like anger or sadness, make it known. Any interaction based on that emotion, such as complaining or yelling or fighting, do it.

Master violin skill, cuz thats a sad instrument right??

Write sad books when sad. Do this a lot. Be sad a lot and write sad books. No goal number, just be sad and write. And thats it :3! If you guys actually want 10 generations add more colors follow those archetypes and just you do you :P And if you do this challenge or even just tweak it a little I wanna see! 1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?

So far the 1900s and the 1930s have been my favourites. For the 1900s I just loved Evie so much, and the whole period just felt really peaceful. Then for the 30s, Harry and Maisie were just too cute and it was so nice to have a story the was a little more wholesome after the chaos I put the poor Finch’s through in the 20s. I’m very excited for the 40s! Spoiler alert, I’m already there in gameplay, and I’m so happy. I mainly studied ww2 history at university so it’s fun to be in a period I’m very familiar with. Also just aesthetically I’m excited for the 80s and 90s because that’s my jam. 

2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)

I think the last time I did these questions I said the Edwardian dress from @gilded-ghosts’s Stately Set and honestly I think that’s still true. I just love it a lot. However I also want to shout out the Langtree Updo by @twentiethcenturysims because it is just perfect for those Gibson Girl looks. 

3. Who is your favorite sim currently?

It’s my boy John Finch. I’m really worried for him since obviously soon he’ll have to go to war, but I just love that dorky little mechanic. I do also really love Ruth though, who we will be seeing more of for sure. She’s just too cute to deal with. 

4. What is your favorite world?

San Myshuno forever. Definitely going to need to find a reason for the Finch’s to move there one day- maybe in the 70s? Feels like it could fit that vibe really well. 

5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?

Bit of both! I have a general idea of what sort of things I want to deal with in each decade as it comes, so I’ll sort of steer the gameplay into those directions, but then often the gameplay will in turn steer the story. This is sort of why I prefer to do smaller story posts- it just matches more with the way I play. 

6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?

Yes! The Finch family has had several dogs by now, I’m certain they’ll get a cat at some point. Pets to me always just make the house feel cozier 

7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?

Well I was going to say when sims from other worlds appear in places it wouldn’t make sense for them to be in, but luckily just today @aheathen-conceivably brought this mod to my attention which I installed almost immediately. 

8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)

Again I think I’m repeating myself from last time, but the radiator from the Vampires GP. It’s a little thing but I love it and just makes historical builds look better. 

9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?

Bands please!!! The music career annoys me to no end- it’s so limited in it’s scope! Actually honestly just more careers in general I would really like. 

10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?

I’m jumping on the bandwagon and saying Cottage Living because I mean, just look at it. But also Get Together for Windenburg and Vampires for some very good items. 

11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?

I do now, and it’s that Home Regions mod! I also have one called “no more phone stuff” that I’ve had installed forever not sure where from, and it’s very handy. It doesn’t stop sims pulling out their phones all together, but at least no one is playing Blicblock in the middle of the Great Depression. 

12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?

Any where from 2-4. More than that and I start to get overwhelmed.

13. Do you use poses?

Yuuuuuuup, tons of them. Kind of want to learn how to make my own but haven’t had the time. 

14. Do you use any overrides in your game?

No I had one glitch really badly once and now I’m kind of scared of them lol.

15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?

I tried briefly at the start of the 1890s and it was just really frustrating. They really should be able to do more things even if they don’t have power. 

16. What lifespan do you play on?

Normal!  Finally settled on a setting. 

17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?

As I said I was a history student and I have always been a huge sims fan, so when I found out about the Decades Challenge I felt like I had to try it. I was hooked pretty much instantly.

FLASH REPORT: GCash faces widespread Installation Problems that criticized e-wallet users in a New System Version Update [#K5NewsFMExclusive]

TAGUIG, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- Philippine fintech electronic wallet 'GCash' faced nationwide of frustrations in smartphone installation issues with or without unregistering / re-registering phone models to being associated with their GCash account, per a latest new version of '5.78.0' recently released last week on Wednesday (July 3rd, 2024 – Manila local time), affecting almost all of the Apple iOS and Android smartphones, per some of our examples like Oppo and RealMe.

DWFH-FM 97.7mhz's K5 News FM: Dumaguete was one of the first ones who discovered where several users at GCash have manually failed to unregister old or newer phones in a new version update, especially those who recently tried to re-install after uninstalled this said e-wallet app, but was temporarily locked out and/or potentially lost a registered SIM card due to incompatible new version happening this week on Wednesday afternoon before 2pm (July 10th, 2024). Sometimes, the e-wallet app intermittently crashes from the start, except when going offline for a few seconds before logging in with your own MPIN and turning on WiFi or mobile data in most Android phone models like Oppo.

In a latest official social media advisory post stating that there will be a system update to improve your experience for the Filipinos and even OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) abroad. Per the new announcement at Futurecast 2024 within late-last June 2024, the new app version of '5.78.0' and later versions in the e-wallet app unveiling to be rolling out new features like Tap to Pay, Smartwatch Payments via QR code (Quick Response) in selected Huawei smartwatches, International Cash-In from the American partnered banks, 30-day Tourist Access for Non-Filipino individuals, and GCash Jr. with Parental Controls.

E-wallet fintech officials say that the funds of GCash remain safe as normal, as long as you keep the registered phone locked in without losing both of your SIM card and a smartphone, which potentially infiltrates virtually from hackers, scammers and phishing individuals.

GCash has currently working out to sort the issue to the e-wallet application developers and is expected to be done by Friday afternoon at 12nn (July 12th, 2024) and advises everyone to re-download the GCash app once the system update is completely fixed. 'K5 News FM: Dumaguete' reached out to Apple and Google but refused to respond to us for a comment via E-Mail correspondent.

System update in the e-wallet app is related to the incompatibility concerns of both Apple iOS and Android smartphones. Self-unregistration is voluntarily possible by transferring a new phone from your old Oppo to RealMe (in the above-mentioned examples) and can be done through GCash national hotline of 2882, instead of GCash Help Center website. Online payments and debit card payments like GCash Visa Card, as well with other e-wallets and digital or physical banks like Maya, Coins.PH, UNO Digital Bank and RCBC (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation) will not be affected, despite the incompatibility concerns in the GCash app alone.

Online netizens criticized social media, in lacking communication to blame in poor customer service, yet to be boycotting and brutally attacking the e-wallet app if they failed to fix the issue beyond the Friday afternoon deadline and destroying their image of the financial e-wallet tech app company.

GCash apologizes for the inconvenience for those affected by the epidemic of incompatibility concerns and failing to unregister smartphone models, regardless of uninstall and re-installing this said e-wallet app.

Mobile application technicians and developers are working around the clock to sort issues the soonest before the anticipated weekend breaks.

A Sojourn in Italia - Mobile Phones for I Stranieri

This is a little extra for interest and perhaps useful for someone in the future, about i piani cellulari.

No doubt working out mobile options while visiting Italy seems to be one of the more complicated and confusing things and I still don’t get all of the details of how it all works.  So while what I’m about to say should be reasonably accurate, check things out at the time.

Some Background:

Italy has 3 main mobile phone companies (actually 4, but the new one is still building coverage). The main three are TIM, WindTre and Vodafone. (Iyiad is the new kind on the block). DO NOT go with TIM. TIM is Italy’s answer to Telstra and we used them last time. Somehow despite having an all in one 30 day plan, we kept running out of credit because they kept sending us SMS’s which used the base credit on the plan and hence made the 30 day plan inactive until we added credit. (Well this is the best sense I could ever make about what was happening.) In Italy the receiver pays for the SMS charge!

In Italy all contracts must utilise a “Codice Fiscale”. Basically a cross between a Tax File Number and a US style Social Security Number. Obviously as tourists we don’t have this. Therefore the phone companies have special plans that are only available for tourist’s. (Usually listed as something like “Offerte Estero” - offers for foreigners). They use your passport details to satisfy legal requirements.

Our Current Plan:

We asked our hosts about best coverage and she suggested Vodafone as being most reliable - we are out of the major cities so… So we went with them. I’ll come to our plan in a minute but before hand give a little story to serve as a warning. I expected that the Vodafone stand at the airport would be the most reliable way to sort out a plan. The assistant spoke good English and offered two plans that would meet our needs. We signed for the slightly larger plan as it’s only €2.00 more per month. The charge for setting this up is entirely at the shop’s discretion. In this case we payed €55 each which covered the SIM, the first month and their fee. The assistant set things up and told us to wait for the SMS’s in about 2-4 hours and then reboot our phones. We then received a little bit of paperwork and were on our way. Except when we finally got the SMS’s and rebooted the phones we realised that we had not been given the actual phone numbers applying to the SIM’s. We thought they were on the paperwork we’d been given but they weren’t. So we found a nearby Vodafone franchisee near Trastevere in Rome who tried to tell us that we either had to go back to the airport (an hour away) or set up a complete new plan with him. Sensing a scam we took a long walk to find another Vodafone franchisee who was very helpful, looked up the serial numbers of the SIM cards and wrote down the phone numbers for us and explained more of how it worked. (And refused to take anything from us for his trouble.)

Now here’s another area of confusion. Vodafone kind of expect that you use their App to manage the plan, including checking credit and adding credit each month. BUT, the App is geo-locked. The Apple App store will not allow us to download the App unless we change our App store (which is different to your region setting etc which we’ve already changed). You can only change your Apple App store once a year and must cancel all existing Apple subscriptions (we utilise Apple One so this is a definite NO!) If you’re an Android user you mileage may vary, but for us it means we cannot get the Vodafone App. (Why do they geo-lock an App that tourists are expected to use?)

Not to worry, finally, at the end of the month, we received a text from Vodafone telling us to ensure we had enough credit on our phones for the renewal of the plan in the next couple of days. We dropped into a Vodafone store in Bolzano, they looked it up using the phone numbers and charged us €10 each to add the Credit (€9 + €1 service charge by them). If you can’t find a Vodafone franchisee, each of the Tabacchi’s are meant to be able to do it. Tell them your company and phone number.

So what is the plan we are on? It’s called the C’all Power plan. It gives us 70 Gbytes of 4G data (5G is not on this plan yet but is common in Italy) and unlimited calls. Ostensibly it costs €8.99 per month. We also have 300 minutes a month to several countries, although I think calls to Australia can only be to landlines, not mobiles (this is one of those grey areas). I think we’re also allowed to travel into adjacent EU countries and have some coverage, but I think it costs something like €3/day extra.

As for ongoing travel, I doubt that there’s any really economical plan that is worldwide. Roaming charges are ridiculous. the only thing I can see that’s reliable is to get a local SIM on the best plan possible in the country your visiting and change your number for each country. There may be a EU wide plan, but I haven’t found it yet. It does exist for EU based plans but they are not the same as our tourist plans so… I think Vodafone UK used to have a plan that covered the EU for a time but post Brexit, I’m not sure how that works.

It’s been a “fun” week, so to try and escape a little I thought I’d start to compile all my ideas about Criladith, or some. Sorry for the word spill

So, let’s start with the save itself. “Criladith 1” as we can call it started to shows signs of corruption (I think). Couldn’t load families, certain lots weren’t loading/crashed if they did. I was pretty spooked and contemplating simply building my own lots (I’d been using prebuilt Gwrych lots) and moving families, when I remembered. I had been getting my servants by simply teleporting sims on the sim blender and moving them in, very bad idea because these were all service sims. It was a theory until I checked something, our darling evil Judith Kellers had incomplete data. You couldn’t even extract her appearance (which is why she’ll look different in round 2.) So Judith had been an unsafe npc and Criladith 1 was on a timer.

It many ways a corruption scare was probably just what I needed. I hadn’t been liking the map, the way I had set up four corners each province was going to be its own separate entity in competition with one another. I ended really hating that and the looming rise in households I’d need to play (we started with 16 at the beginning of round 1) and lots I’d need to build. I also wasn’t vibing with the grwych lots, they weren’t meeting the needs of the sims or me. So I extracted all of the sims, recreated them in a new map (terrain?) and started to build everything from scrap. Which has led to a long process of building but it’s been sooo rewarding.

As it stands Criladith will now one day be a kingdom, instead of 4. Each province will be built up as rural villages where my yeoman and peasants will reside. Each will have natural resource lots (ie forest, mine) and a village green and well in addition what other regional specific lots it’s hold. All the other lots and families (families will be randomized from now on, no more couples straight from cas) past hamlet will be built in the “Capital/Charter City” in the middle of the map. The CC will host merchants, gentry, nobles, and one day my royals. Taxes from all the regions will be pooled together toward the CC. So how will we know who is to be crowned our monarch if not through monetary gain? I think I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s whichever noble tops the Politics career first. If the noble dies before they can it falls on their child to continue to fight for their house. The success of the province/level in their career will decide what titles the other three nobles obtain when the royal family is crowned. Not sure if the noble reaches the top of the career before the CC is complete if they will be crowned, maybe maybe not.

Besides the CC and provinces there will be a university section (city planning is not my strong suit, it will either be on the hill or somewhere in the CC). Religious sections will also be built for those that practice convent type devotion. Athos (Vilena’s god) is going to have nuns who run the orphanage and maybe brothers. I also want to build a military compound with a prison tower, knight barracks, regular military barracks (for peasant/yeomans, a much more grueling track than that of knights), a church, training grounds, and some sort of relaxation building. (If you can’t tell this is what I’m currently working in game.) Very heavily inspired by how @mortia handles her barracks. Nectarine Nivell is one of our knights to be, and others will soon follow. Also if anyone has some nice medieval N names for her instead of Nevaeh/Nectarine I’d appreciate the suggestions :)

Magical person in history, on not intervening on human rights issues

I am writing a dating sim/visual novel set in the present day. A major (non-romanceable) character is an ancient sorceress who moved from France to the Pacific Northwest in the 1850s. She is white. She is shown to have powerful magic. She also works closely with the main characters and develops personal relationships with them as she teaches them magic, giving each character comfort and advice during their respective stories.

Considering the events in America around her move-in date, there’s no way she could have missed the horrible human rights abuses going on, and there’s no way she was too powerless to help, even when most of the fighting and slavery was so far away. So I’m having trouble balancing “don’t make her a white savior by having her personally fireball Robert E. Lee” against “Hogwarts University is cancelled because Dumbledorette didn’t care about slavery.” I had the idea that the magical regulating body back home in France didn’t want her to intervene due to political reasons, so she helped out in small ways that could safely fly under the radar. She later realized that she prioritized her social standing over the suffering of countless others, so she began making a point of reducing human suffering as much as she could.

I can’t imagine this will show up in more than one small scene, but doing it wrong could really sour the whole thing. Is this backstory still icky? Should I just not mention it and let readers headcanon what they please?

I’m wondering what you think was happening in the PNW at the time for the fighting and slavery to be “far away.” Washington State had the Cayuse War at exactly this time period, Oregon didn’t ratify treaties and was calling for the extermination of “the I*dian race” in roughly this time period, and California’s Gold Rush created the California Genocide starting heavily in the 1840s, picking up steam in the 1850s, which included slavery of California Natives thanks to a law enacted in 1850 that lasted for 13 years. 

This is all from the top five results of googling “pacific northwest genocide 1850”, for the record. It’s not exactly hidden history.

So suddenly your character’s lack of movement in healing the poisoned populations as disease ravaged the area, in attempting to stop or at least buy and free the enslaved Natives being auctioned on their doorstep, or in attempting to get treaties ratified and honoured looks a lot more damning.

This is not counting any of the future events that happened at the turn of the century, including the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Hawai’i monarchy being overthrown, and Federal Order 9066, which is the WWII concentration camps (that included Japanese, German, and Italian individuals). This is just to name a handful of coastal issues in the next 100 years, completely ignoring Jim Crow, residential schools, the San Francisco Earthquake (which nearly had Chinese people relocated to the worst land imaginable for gentrification purposes, had the Empress of China not stepped in), and many others.

In short: she would have had hundreds of opportunities to end suffering, and focusing on a single event as a small scene feels disproportionate to how much she could have done.

And honestly? The French were no angels. 

The Second French Colonial Empire was one of the largest empires in history, and it began in 1830, covering roughly a third of Africa. The First French Colonial Empire began in the 1600s, and had both India and North America, primarily Canada.

She was white. French. You don’t specify her birth year other than “ancient”, but considering the sheer amount of territory-grabbing France has been doing since Normandy invaded England in the eleventh century AD, I’m going to assume her birth year is somewhere more recent than that. Therefore, I’m going to assume she has been around the Catholic Missionary Attitude that France had; one could call that attitude the bedrock of its existence for at least a millennia (and is still visible in modern day).

So tell me: when did she break out of it? What made her even care about human atrocities, when she has likely grown up watching France commit them her entire life? 

Because let me just say, she has had plenty of opportunities to realize she did nothing in the face of her neighbours’ hatred of people not like them, and she has never taken them before. 

Did she (or her parents, if she was born around this time) decry Napoleon re-introducing slavery in France in 1802? Side with Haiti when it declared independence in 1804, and hate that the government forced Haiti to pay for the “theft” of slaves and land (that was only paid off in 1947)? Is she presently championing for France to pay Haiti the money it wrongfully took from the country? Did she hate the delays in stopping the French slave trade, which took 11 years to actually stop after it was banned on paper? 

Unconditional emancipation was only reached in 1848, after all. I don’t care if she was born in 1830, there was some sort of major racial event happening in France all throughout the late 1700s to mid-1800s. Where did she side then?

Abolitionism was not an unknown concept in France, so it is possible she had already been working towards it quietly, but that would mean she would have felt guilt at inaction much earlier, depending on when she began decrying slavery—if she was even delayed in decrying it, which I will admit is possible. 

And if she was an abolitionist, would she have even listened to the French government in not at least easing the genocide around her? Because she would have watched nearly 100 years of the French dragging their feet on stopping slavery in their empire, and known how BS it all was… if she saw it that way.

That’s just abolitionism, and is not even counting the French relationship with the Native population in Quebec and the Great Lakes region, which is a giant tangle of proxy wars, colonialism, missionary work, and very, very, very complex relationships that started off good and ended terribly.

So I ask again: why did she only start caring then?

Speaking of proxy wars, the Napoleon Empire wanted a Confederate victory, because the Confederacy was its source of cotton and the American Civil War created a “cotton famine” in France that basically forced the textile industry into a massive downsizing. The Confederacy also tolerated Napoleon’s plans for expanding the empire in Mexico, which actually had begun in December of 1861.

So when it comes to how a magical board would rule—even though France was officially neutral in the war, the court of public opinion (among politicians and capitalists) was more on the Confederate side than the Union side. Many politicians secretly worked with the Confederacy, until they abandoned them when the Union showed signs of winning. The only reason France officially remained neutral is because a war with the British was inevitable if they acknowledged the Confederacy, and Napoleon didn’t want that.

I shall work under the assumption that because it was rather literally on her doorstep when she moved to America, she lost insulation to it (if she hadn’t thought about it before), but I will say how iffy that makes her look in the long term if she had so many opportunities beforehand (at the very least, seeing slaves in France).

My other option is the word “ancient” is liberally applied and she was only in her 20s or 30s when 1850 hit, and therefore had not had many opportunities to see otherwise (but she still would have seen slaves in France, likely).

Onto the white guilt and white saviour aspects

Strictly from a writing perspective, you have to determine if she changed the course of history, or not. This would not necessarily be within the realm of white saviour, seeing as white people were the only ones listened to at the time. You can see people who changed the course of history in this period by looking up the pastor who insisted Lincoln hold fair trials for the Dakota, which brought the execution count from over 200 down to 38. You can also look at Alice Fletcher, who made quite a few laws designed to protect Native people, but whether or not they were successful is up for debate (and she regretted some of the laws she helped enact).

If not, then you have the current tangle you’re dealing with.

Option 1

She was unestablished in America and relied on the magical regulations board to protect her, and she figured working small and under the radar would mean she could do more good long-term by not being killed, so long as you establish that such a threat is viable.

This option only works if she’s an active advocate for the slew of other racist acts that pass once she’s settled in America, of which I gave many examples above.

Option 2

She actually did change the course of history in perhaps a mixed way, or perhaps a positive way. She could have relied completely on being a white, well-to-do voice in the community, which would have granted her some privilege without using a drop of magic. 

This can apply to any point in history, seeing as there were a lot of others to pick from. It would be particularly useful once suffrage was achieved, and if she was part of suffrage, did she call out Susan B. Anthony’s racism? Did she encourage allowing non-whites to vote?

Option 3 

She was slow to care, and did not actually understand what a big deal it was that such atrocities were happening until it was too late. This leads to her dedication to atonement the strongest, but you have to be careful about white guilt. This option can go along with option 1.

This allows her to be a passive player in future racist events, but makes her an even more privileged white character who PoC will have a hard time seeing as kindly, and you should go out of your way to show white players how unkind and privileged she was, and perhaps still is.

Option 4 

she doesn’t actually care much, because she has a president of not caring about atrocities happening in France, and her bigotry shows up in other ways in modern day and she’s just a kindly-but-bigoted character. She’s your wonderful grandma who you have beautiful memories with… she just doesn’t care about anyone not white.

This can go along with option 3, as she was so slow to realize that she is still bigoted and hasn’t done any work, but her racism is going to be more covert and you’ll have to do research on microaggressions and how to frame them.

Based off the way her lack of action is framed in-story and how little a plot role it plays, I would say that option 4 with a dash of option 3 appears to be the most likely interpretation of her character by PoC. She’s lip-service to progress, at present, but seems to have made no strides in losing her social standing to be an ally.

Now here’s why I don’t think you should let readers headcanon her however they want:

White players in particular are going to minimize her culpability in what happened, and think that she did all that she could, and she is a Totally Redeemed Character now. In fact, they’ll probably wonder why she’s even an Atoner, because she did something, right? She helped, right? And now she’s helping and that’s plenty. She’s good to the players, so she is a Good Person.

Meanwhile PoC players are going to see yet another white author ignore the fact that colonialism was happening en masse at the time, and that white people deeply benefited from it, and are going to see the “it happened in the past why do you keep bringing up racism?” defence continued.

Let her be flawed. Let her be on stolen land and acknowledge it every time she teaches them something, and let her sit and exist in the guilt that happens when she realizes she could have stopped the theft but didn’t. Let her not wallow in self hate, but acknowledge her mistake with every lesson the main characters receive, and let her work on righting that wrong by championing “land back” causes that centre Indigenous voices.

Let her dialogue options show every trace of how the past is not over because the past’s actions are still being felt and reparations have not been made. The settler state is still controlling the land she has made home and she knows exactly what they did to get it, and she passes that knowledge on.

Let players be uncomfortable with the knowledge that, if they sit by and “only do small things when they can, to not lose anything”, they are complicit. Let white people see they must well and truly denounce what has been given to them by their racist, colonial ancestors in order for PoC to “stop talking about racism.”

Make her use whatever income she makes be paid in part to Native causes, as rent for the land she occupies unfairly. Make her refuse to teach bigoted students who want “mystic secrets” that aren’t hers to give, that were appropriated centuries ago. Make part of her life’s work be hiding away Black and Indigenous spiritual leaders to minimize the loss.

Let her past be imperfect. And do not force redemption on her, but instead let her own the fact she made catastrophic mistakes that will not be redeemed until land has been returned to the Native population. Until all forms of slavery are abolished. Until colonial powers give back all the resources and finances they stole from their colonized regions. Until the privilege that white people spilled so much blood to secure is no more.

Because if you want her to truly be a good character who does not support racism? That is the level you have to step towards.

Everything else is simply whiteness trying to make itself feel better.

Does your courier kill Benny and/or kill dean?

I haven't played Dead Money yet because my video game brain is currently focusing on the Sims 4 (I know, I know).

Juno definitely set out from Doc Mitchell's with the intention of killing Benny, but by the time they get to New Vegas after doing a bunch of other tasks, it's kind of fizzled out. Over the period of a few weeks, they kind of stopped viewing Benny as a two-dimensional killer in favor of a three-dimensional person whose choices are... very odd. For them, it's much easier to be mad at an impression rather than a person (note: this doesn't exempt Benny from being the target of their contempt, they just won't kill him on sight).

They ask themselves, "why would he want to betray Mr. House?" and then go to the meeting the Lucky 38. The next thought is, "oh, now I get it." Here, the enemy (Benny) of Juno's enemy (Mr. House) sort of becomes their friend in terms of ideology (Juno helps establish New Vegas as an independent region).

Largely to be decided on Dean Domino but he does not have the same luxury of time and distance as Benny had. It would be wise for him to stay out of arm's reach.

Backstory

Titus comes from the old blood of the Goths and is the grandson of Bella and Mortimer Goth. Since he is indeed a Goth but the 2nd youngest sibling of 4 (he has 3 older brothers and one year older then his younger sister) they certainly have known wealth but were always taught to use it responsibly and not be willy nilly with their fortune. Most of their own earned money was from some jobs both around Del Sol Valley and San Myshuno as well as family businesses.His mother Cassandra bloomed into adult age and was certainly a beauty where she certainly got quite a few admirers that she felt only wanted her for her looks and money until she met Sterling Silvers who at their first meeting of sorts bumped into him during a late coffee run in Strangerville’s Military and Science building pouring hot ass coffee all over them both and after that certainly had a very annoyed view of each other until they slowly after a few years started admiring the others goals and smarts that soon turned from good friends to love interests that more years later after the strange plants inhabiting Strangerville were finally dispersed and put to rest. married at beautiful cliff garden spot where they used to meet on their breaks that overlooked the lush vibrant desert wild flowers and other fauna to the red golden sands and the blue river of the goruge at sunset. Sterling Silvers was of course a higher clearance rank then Cassandra but worked the same department area as the supervisor.

After settling down in to a relatively happy marriage as most have some ups and downs decided to move to Del Sol Valley for a small period of time (3-8 years) where they lived on a large well looked after manor that used to be resided by Judy(that celeb chick with the big butt bun on her head) and renovated it up into a more modern version whilst still keeping some of the vintage flair. After all his siblings had grown and moved away some even moving to places over seas decided he’d rather be close to his graying parents after the death of their grandparents and unknown to him his sister following him along to San Myshuno where they rented a penthouse with beautiful fantastic views and converted it not only to a home but also offices for their businesses. his sisters florist business and Titus’s being the CEO of the Goth’s Business situated in the city.

He does however tire sometimes of the city, wanting to live in woodland places like Windernberg or Glimmerbrook, maybe when he finds the right lady and settles down to the constant parental nagging of his parents who would love some grandbabies that aren’t in their snooty pre teen/teenage years.So he  packed his bags for hopefully a long but well worth it adventure into love. What is he hoping to get from the challenge? In form of goals nothing more then the possibility of a quiet working from home life, with the woman he loves engaged or married that has a fiery passionate part of herself in their possible offspring and to be happy in the future of his children lineage.

So how about that CCL?

For those of you unaware, the CCL is a semi-pro league for Heroes of the Storm being run by Heroes Hearth. A lot of old familiar faces came back for this, either to play, or to operate the organizations (henceforth: orgs) in charge of the teams. They had their draft just this past weekend, and for those of you who care to follow the pro side of this game, I want to talk about those drafts, and hopefully shine a light on what to expect when the season gets underway.

For those of you here for memes and memes alone, I have considerately put the rest of this behind a read more for you to scroll on past. Thank you for your patience.

Names at the top are the team names (the orgs), names in blue cells are tank players, green are supports, red are dps, and orange are offlaners. Though there are some discrepancies - many players have wide hero pools and can fill multiple roles. As you can see, every team has a pretty solid mix of former pros, top-shelf streamers, Storm League GM regulars, and more than a few unknown names. There was one irregularity during the draft: 30k traded their 10th pick spot to Chilly Mountain to get the 16 and 17 double pick in the 2nd/3rd round. No other trades were made.

Largely, if you know these players, you can see that every team except Oxygen very highly prioritized shotcallers, which did lead to a bit of a tank choke early in the draft. Turk - the leader for Crowd Control - confirmed that he picked up Nightvision - a tank player who also plays supports - to intentionally force a tank choke down the line. Supports didn’t get choked, but many teams picked up a second support player, especially in the 6th pick sub position, owing to the power of double support strategies. The high priority on shotcallers, though, led to an unseen problem: many teams have two - or even more - strong leadership personalities on their team, which could lead to some butting heads and clashing strategies.

That said, let me talk about the teams.

Chilly Mountain

As mentioned, CM had a good position to start strong with the draft. They had the first pick, and then they had second pick in the second round. True to that expectation, the first half of their draft is extremely strong. Fury is considered one of the best tanks in the region, and one of the most flexible shotcallers in the whole talent pool. Similarly, Makke is a strong leadership figure and a good DPS. Darkmok is another very strong player in the offlane role, and while DarkChimera isn’t the best support - or even the best support available at that point in the draft - he has great personal synergy with Fury. The back half of the draft, though, is a bit of a joke. CPogX (more commonly known as CPX) is a talented player mechanically, but has a terrible attitude. He’s also known in the community as a transphobe and misogynist. If the CCL has any respectability, he’s going to need to be kept on a tight leash, or else he’s going to get the boot really quick. And then their last pick was Mysticleez, another offlane player, who is going to struggle to step into CPX’s role if he runs his mouth on social media and gets punted.

Side Step Kings

This team - selected by veteran player Fan - has the most potential. Fan was the only one brave enough to pick Korean players, highly prioritizing KyoCha, and then picking up Hide at the end of the draft. He also went for a few of his old friends, starting the draft with Cattle, and later picking up Jun, his former teammates from Tempo Storm. Jun has the added bonus of being bilingual in English and Korean, allowing him to bridge the gap between the Korean players and the English-speaking players. Also, he’s Fan’s roommate, but that’s beside the point. Three teams on this draft banked on ping not being a big issue, and SSK banked on it the hardest. If ping actually doesn’t matter, this team is easily at the top. The only remaining struggle is the language barrier. I’m hoping that Fan brings that big streamer money into it to hire a real translator. Jun is fluent enough in both languages to serve for right now, but he’s one of the best healers in NA. He shouldn’t be on the roster just to fill an admin role. I have high hopes for this team, but there’s a lot of room for mismanagement.

WildHeart

Now this is my pick for the dark horse underdog I want to see run away with the league. Justing (piTkiD) and Buds are old friends from Oct/R20/TT, my favorite NA team from the old HGC. Justing was NA’s mad scientist, pioneering weird compositions and developing his own unusual meta that demands respect, and Buds works extremely well with him. The rest of the team is very well-positioned to accommodate him. Unaverted is a strong DPS pick, with Zergling and Funz having very diverse hero pools to work around Justing’s unique brand of bullshit, and Wearyday to sub in when double support is the call. This is also the only team with 6 NA players. If ping does matter, WildHeart is poised to take over the whole tournament, and even if it doesn’t, Justing has been given the tools he needs to redefine the meta for the whole league. Win or lose, these will be games worth watching.

Crowd Control

On the other end of the spectrum, the next two teams banked on ping not mattering; Turk - the leader for CC - picked up five EU players, asserting confidently “EU are just better than we are” when announcing his first pick of Lauber. From there, Turk was one of the players leaning hard on his first pick’s advice, following up with more strong EU players. Reportedly, Lauber got to build his own personal dream team, especially with Dynouh and Kwazaa. Turk confirmed that the Nightvision pick was for his offrole as a support (It’s been said that he’s ten times better in his offrole than his main role) while at the same time draining the Tank pool since GG, SIM, and OXG hadn’t picked up their own tanks yet. Their sixth pick, Hebi, is the only NA player on the roster, and an obvious pickup in anticipation of a double support meta. If ping doesn’t matter - and if SSK are slowed down by language barriers - CC is lined up and ready to flatten everyone.

Granit Gaming

GG had a similar strategy to CC. They have five EU players, with a single NA on the team in Nintorii. The difference is that they’re more likely to field their NA player. Svampgroot can fill in the offlane, but he is much more likely to play his signature heroes in the 4-man than his goofball offlane picks. As with CC, GG picked a dream team of EU players, headed up by Nic, and followed by Burger and Henning, a serious powerhouse for teamfight, with Nintorii as the macro god who ran with Scythe Esports through the open division and into HGC just before its untimely demise in 2018. All things considered, I think CC has the stronger players individually, but GG can make up the difference on raw synergy. Between the two, there are ten of the best players EU has to offer, even if the games are going to be played on NA servers.

Simplicity

Back to a strong NA roster, SIM followed GG and CCs lead, but with an NA player. Kure got to build his own dream team with his old Team Freedom teammates in Killuzion and Lutano. Wit is the odd man out on this roster, as an EU player in the tank role, but at that point in the draft, all the best NA tanks had already been picked out of the pool. They also picked up the man, the myth, the legend, this Hosty guy I’ve heard so much about. There might be some smaller interpersonal struggles - three of these people are all from the same HGC team, leaving the rest of the team as odd men out, if conversations get too clique-y. But if everyone meshes together, this team is the quintessential standard NA roster. They aren’t going to break the meta, but they’re going to play standard, and play it as well as any NA team could. If ping matters - and if Justing’s weird homebrew meta doesn’t take off - SIM is going to dominate.

30k

The man who stole the draft: Michael Udall. Trading his 10th pick away for the double pick between rounds 2 and 3, he got literally the exact team he wanted, man for man. HasuObs was his first pick for a leader to build his team around, and then BBJ and Liam are bar none the best players in their respective roles, picked up while everyone else was still squabbling over shotcallers. Udall later admitted that he wanted to first pick Mascarade - his fourth pick - if it looked like the tank pool was getting pinched too hard. His last two picks were reportedly under a time crunch - Sammy is an EU player who was a rush pick to fill the DPS role alongside Hasu, and then Udall overrode everyone else to pick up Breakwood as a player he wanted to mentor into a force to be reckoned with in the next season. 30K has one of the strongest mixed-region rosters in the league right now, but that may be to their detriment. Big names come with big egos, and if the team hits adversity, there’s a chance that communication starts to break down as people butt heads. We’ll see if Udall - the biggest ego of them all - can keep everyone in line. It would also be a serious crime if Breakwood got picked up to warm the bench all season.

Oxygen

The last team has a dramatically different draft strategy compared to the others. Every other team picked up strong leadership and worked with them to build a cohesive strategy, or had a strategy already that they drafted for. Meanwhile, Oxygen hit the draft as if they had a list of players sorted by skill level and they just picked whoever was still up from the top down. Despite this unusual strategy, they have a scary-looking roster. Prismaticism and Nazmas are two very strong players to start with, even if neither is a real leader. Their subsequent picks are similarly very strong players. Reportedly, they wanted Ultralisk as their 4th pick, not Madara, but were mistakenly told that he wasn’t available, because he was listed in the pool under his current battletag “GuessWhoIAm” which is honestly peak comedy. Just the same, their pick of Madara echoed through the rest of the draft; everyone else claimed that they had their eye on him for the later stages to fill. Their sixth pick of Cascon put the truth to all the memes about him being unskippable, too. But the problem remains: someone needs to step up to lead this team. If nobody does, they’re just going to be a SL fiesta and get rolled over by more organized competitors.

Every team obviously has their faults and flaws. Many of them come down to how big a problem ping is. Considering that the EU and even KR players performed admirably in the inhouse games and the exhibition matches, it may be that it’s less of a factor than traditionally thought. However, there were indeed some strategies built around punishing their slower connections. It was said that Cassia’s Valkyrie was the key anti-EU heroic: their ping made it impossible to dodge.
