The next day Zelda found Gio in the field at sunrise, just like she had most mornings for the last five years. He was in his work suspenders, his hat not yet needed to protect him from the harshness of the day, and his button down showing old stains that no amount of scrubbing could get clean.
He was staring at another newly wilted plant when he saw her, and she immediately regretted her choice to talk to him here. It had seemed appropriate when she was agonizing over it the night before - to talk to him where they had both found hope when all seemed lost, and the world felt just as likely to collapse in on itself as the air was to be taken over with tornadoes of dust.
Only it was harder than she expected it to be - telling him that she was leaving. That when the day got too hot she would no longer sing to herself to move the still air, or that now his rambling stories of New Orleans in the 1910s would have no audience other than the earless crops. It was harder than she expected to tell him that she was leaving him there to work the fields alone when they had been there together nearly every day for five years, laughing and struggling as they tried to pull life from unwilling red dirt.
But just like Antoine had said, he didn’t begrudge her for a moment. He had smiled and wished her the best of luck, and made her promise that if he forgot everything she had taught him she would find the very best farming manuals the library had to offer. He never let his loneliness make her feel guilty, or try to stop her when she walked away.
But God, he wanted to. For all the mistakes he had made in his life, he wasn’t an idiot. He had seen the signs in every wilted crop and fallen leaf. With every harvest that went by having two of them there seemed more and more superfluous; and he couldn’t blame her finding work elsewhere, especially not when it was something she was clearly so passionate about.
He only wished that this wasn’t what he was passionate about. Not farming, of course, but what it represented to him and the life he had imagined it would give him - the kind he had once heard his grandparents talk of in the countryside of Sicily. Working all day with your hands alongside someone you loved, seeing something grow to fruition, and just living comfortably without fear hanging over your head.
Was it so far fetched to dream of having your own land, a home that was yours like a bastion against the encroachments of the world? And if he could turn a profit for himself and his family in the process, well then all the better. That was what it meant to be an American, wasn’t it? And it was what he had spent every last penny of his savings trying to achieve.
Only now the crops were dying again.
And even worse, it seemed like they were all moving on from the base he had provided for them while he had been left here near bankruptcy. Each and every one of them was moving onto something newer and better, like fate had brought them out here with a plan that had forgotten to include him.
It was like the land itself had conspired against him; stolen and twisted beyond what it once was, it gave less and less every year despite the promises of plenty that had lured him out there with all the trappings of the American dream. Meanwhile the banks swarmed like buzzards, searching for the carcasses of dead farmers and broken dreams whose pockets they could peck clean like bones.
Now he was out of money and nearly out of time. The crops that were still blooming were the only shining beacon left of everything that he had hoped for when he left home. Behind them, lingering in their wilting leaves like a shadow, was the knowledge that he could end all of this with a single phone call. One groveling phone call - his tail tucked between his legs and his morals steamrolled under reality; then it would all be over. None of them would ever have to worry about hunger or struggle again. Only then, what was left of his soul would finally be gone. Father, I was wrong.
But he couldn’t. He had worked his whole life to avoid that, fought every naysayer and washed himself of the blood of his family in pursuit of this. What was left in the dying soil was hope. No more and no less. He just needed more time. He couldn't give up now. Otherwise it was all for nothing. The mockery, the loneliness, the lies. The struggle. And if it had grown once, what was stopping it from growing again?
Only a horrifying thought was beginning to take root in the back of his mind. That maybe, just maybe, he had bet it all on a lie.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH
As every year this is a good date to remember the daily struggle for the rights of the LBGT+ community. It is also a time to learn about the people who made it possible for us to identify ourselves as who we are today without fear of reprisals or being punished by the law. This month I got involved in the history of Argentina and its different movements for the fight for rights through the 20th century. Here I come to share some important figures, some more known than others, but obviously there are a lot that I have left out of this publication.

Sara Facio (1932-2024) & Maria Elena Walsh (1930-2011)
A couple of intellectual artists that would need a separate publication to go deeper into the subject. Sara is one of the greatest Latin American photographers who with her camera contributed to the creation of the most outstanding photographic heritage of the country. Maria Elena is a writer, singer and composer whose children's songs resonate to this day because they are much more profound than they seem and are still relevant today.

Salvadora Medina Onrubia (1894-1972)
She was a writer, militant anarchist, single mother and the first woman to run a newspaper in the country. She was the first Argentinean woman to dare to write about double sinners, lesbians and adulteresses. One of her most valued plays was Las descentradas, premiered in 1929. There, Salvadora honors her own contradictions, narrating women who question monogamous structures, marriage and the traditional family.

Malva Solis (1920-2015)
She was a transvestite writer who lived for 95 years when the life expectancy of this community in the country was under 40 years old. In 1951 founded the first trans organization on record, Maricas Unidas Argentinas. She has the oldest series of trans photographs in the country, dating from 1940 to 1980, when simply having those photographs at home was cause for being arrested. There is a documentary based on the photographs and conversations with her at her home called "Con Nombre de flor".

Jorge Horacio Ballve Piñero (1920-?)
Piñero was a young man from a well-to-do family of the Buenos Aires society at the beginning of the century. Together with his best friend Adolfo and Blanca, he organized gatherings in his apartment in Recoleta, and was a pioneer of male erotic photography. They mixed the privileged social class with workers, dishwashers, gas station workers, sailors and cadets from the Military College. These three characters were involved in a police case involving cadets from the military college, known as the Cadet Scandal. In the police archives remain captive the photographic collection, intended for pleasure and personal aesthetic enjoyment that tragically proved key to incriminate some friends who just wanted to have fun.

Ruth Mary Kelly (1925-1994)
She was a bisexual woman, who worked as a "Wohoo Worker". Founder of Grupo Safo in 1972, the first Argentine lesbian organization, and of the Frente de Liberación Homosexual (Homosexual Liberation Front). In 1972 she wrote Memorial de los Infiernos about her experiences as a "Wohoo" worker and bisexual, persecuted by the psychiatric-prison system.

Manuel Puig (1932-1990)
He was an Argentine writer and LGBT+ activist, author of the novels Boquitas pintadas, El beso de la mujer araña (Considered one of the most recognized LGBT works in Latin America and one of the best works in Spanish of the 20th century) etc. He also fought against authoritarianism and machismo, and was one of the founders of the Homosexual Liberation Front in 1971, one of the first associations for the defense of LGBTQI+ rights.

Mariela Muñoz (1943-2017)
She was the first transsexual woman to be recognized by the state and given a female ID card on May 2, 1997. At the age of 16 she became independent, and it was then that she began caring for children, teenagers and single mothers. She cared for children who had been abandoned by their mothers, whom she loved and cared for. She raised, during her lifetime, 23 children and 30 grandchildren. In a dispute over the guardianship of 3 children in 1993, Argentina was confronted for the first time with the debate as to whether a transsexual person "could be a mother"

Carlos Jauregui (1957-1996) & Raul Soria
Carlos was a History professor and the founder of the Civil Association Gays for Civil Rights, organizer of the first Pride march in Buenos Aires and an essential figure for Argentine activism. In 1984, he broke with the schemes by appearing in the magazine Siete Días embracing the activist Raul Soria, a homosexual person assumed his sexuality in a public way for the first time. He believed that media visibility is fundamental for LGTB people. Leaving aside the fear and silence that other generations suffered for years. In 1985, Raul would present himself as the first gay candidate for congressman in the country.

Roberto Jauregui (1960-1994)
Brother of Carlos, was a journalist, actor and the first activist for the rights of people with HIV in the country. In 1989 he exposed the inequality in access to treatment at that time due to the price of medication. He played a central role in marches, actions, talks and interviews to demand human rights for people living with the virus. A well-known phrase of his is "Showing one's face is not easy in a society that discriminates, censures and separates".

Cris Miró (1965-1999)
Cris was the first visible trans people that appeared in the media and broke with the "transvestite" paradigm. A dental student, she got involved in the artistic underworld and later studied classical dance, musical comedy and acting. Her career was meteoric: the popularity of revue theater catapulted her to the small screen where she became a sought-after figure in the most popular programs. On June 23rd, a series about his life inspired by his biography was released, available on Prime Video.

Alejandro Vannelli (1948-) y Ernesto Larresse (1950-)
They were the first couple in the province of Buenos Aires to get legally married on July 30, 2010 after the Equal Marriage Law was passed. They met in 1976 because of a triple A bomb in the theater where Larresse was performing with Nacha Guevara, then he joined the cast of Vannelli. At the beginning they did not like each other because of Vanelli's appearance as a wealthy young man and Larresse was the opposite, but opposites attracted and they were a couple for 34 years.

Norma Castillo (1943-) y Ramona "Cachita" Arévalo (1943-2018)
They were the of South America's first gay marriage on April 9, 2010. Norma and Ramona were married to two Colombians, who were cousins to each other. During the dictatorship they both went into exile in Colombia and there they fell in love and lived their romance clandestinely, until Cachita separated and Norma was widowed by her husband. They lived their love freely and even opened an LGBT discotheque in Colombia. In 1998 they returned to Argentina and began to work in sexual diversity organizations.
Feliciano Centurión 1962-1996)
He was a visual artist, a Paraguayan painter professionally trained in Argentina. He grew up in a home dominated by women, where he learned to sew and crochet. Inspired by queer aesthetics and folk art, he used to incorporate household textiles and references to the natural world. She handled kitsch art and languages not considered high art with a great deal of knowledge and sensitivity.

Humberto Tortonese (1964-) , Alejandro Urdapilleta (1954-2013) & Batato Barea (1961-1991)
Batato was an actor and "literary transvestite clown" as he called himself, one of the most important personalities of the underground theater movement of the post-dictatorship years. Together with Alejandro Urdapilleta and Humberto Tortonese, revolutionized the underground scene of the 80's - in places like the Parakultural. They disguised themselves, wore make-up and improvised delirious and strident scenes for the decade.
Sandra Mihanovich & Celeste Carballo
Sandra and Celeste are two singers who were visibly lesbians during the 80s and early 90s. Together they released the albums "Somos mucho mas que dos" and "Mujer contra mujer" which became a symbol of belonging for the whole LGBTQ arc in our country. They managed to be part of the rock scene, an area historically dominated by men. Sandra among all her songs is "Soy lo que soy" released in 1984 composed by Henry Jerman.

The Children of James V & Ophelia
1. James VI, King of Windenburg & San Myshuno (1636-1676) 2. Charles III, King of Windenburg & San Myshuno (1638-1680) 3. Louise, Queen Consort of Almeria (1641-1679) 4. Henrietta, Princess Consort of Brichester (1642-1673) 5. Prince George, Duke of Henford (1647-1666) 6. Sophie, Dauphine of Magnolia (1650-1672)
After the death of King Charles III, his daughter, Matilda, ascended the throne as Queen Matilda II. She reigned until 1714 and left an unclear plan of succession, causing the War of Windenburgian Succession which lasted from 1714-1720. Carlos I of Almeria attempted to claim the Windenburgian throne through the claim of his mother, Princess Louise, the eldest daughter of James and Ophelia. Many people did not consider Carlos's claim valid, because he was Jacoban. George Heinrich, Elector of Wittenburg and his wife, Princess Adelaide of Brichester, both grandchildren of Windenburgian Princesses, were the other claimants to the throne who were supported by the Peteran Kingdoms. The bloody war tore the Simtinent up and almost destroyed the Windenburgian Empire. In the end. George Heinrich and Adelaide's son, Joseph, would ascend the throne.

In The Family Way - A Medieval Pregnancy Kit For Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth Mod
I love a good historical gameplay, and I love Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth Mod. However, for obvious reasons that mod is heavily Modern Era™-coded. But I felt as though there were elements to the mod that could be adapted to my favorite kind of gameplay. This little kit is the result of that feeling. Find the items easily by searching for either [scandisim] or Pandasama in Build/Buy. Please keep in mind before reading any further that none of these work without the original mod by Pandasama, will not even show up in game without the original mod, and all credit for the mod and original items goes to them!
Download Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth Mod here.
What's included:
Ye Olde Birth Pool - BabyBoom Medieval Wooden Birth Pool
Does not replace the original birth pool
8 swatches (four wood, four stone)
$ 100
Ye Olde Yoga/Pregnancy Ball - Medieval Pregnancy Relief Ball
Does not replace the original yoga ball
6 swatches (four hay/straw/grass, two fabric)
$ 50
Ye Olde Wooden Pregnancy Test - Medieval Pregnancy Test
Replaces the original pregnancy test with a wooden one with a bundle of wheat
Will be slightly green to emulate sprouting if positive
Debug item, but you can still find it if you have debug turned on
This is my first attempt at something like this, so do let me know if there are any issues. All mod related questions should obviously be run by Pandasama though. I have nothing to do with the original mod, I'm just a huge fan.

Thank you for reading the Langston Legacy
To all my dear followers and friends - it took me some time to post this final post for the Langston Legacy, because it is so hard to say goodbye to this group of sims that has been part of my life and many of yours for nearly 5 years.
But we made it. All the way to the modern day! This Decades Challenge is complete ⌛️
I hope you all enjoyed the final walk with Mac through the Langston family back to their origins. I really loved revisiting where they came from and seeing old faces. It felt like the fitting way to round this Legacy out.
This is the end for the Langstons. Above you will see all the characters we met over 12 decades - and I have the wonderful @goldoradove to thank for helping to create a 51 sim pose that was so unique to this particular family and all of its individuals. The thing I love most about this community is the people I have met through telling my sims story, and collaborating on this pose to say farewell has been truly heartwarming. I have endless, endless thank-yous, Rilla 💖✨
Ew I’m crying now as I write this, how dare sims make me feel this kind of emotion?! But seriously. Thank you everyone who has ever been invested in this sims story. 5000 followers later (excuse me 😳), and I want you all to know that every comment and like and message has been so meaningful. You are the reason I was able to keep this going for so long, pick it back up after long hiatuses, and finally finish it in my own slightly-protracted way as my life outside of simblr has changed. What started as a pandemic hobby in lockdown turned into a huge project that has sustained me creatively and I feel a bit lost now that it’s complete.
So… what’s next? Stay tuned and I’ll update in a few days on where I’m at with my future plans on simblr. But in the meantime, go discover and read and follow and support all your fellow historical simmers and above all, create your own characters and worlds of your choosing without shame or inhibition 💕🥹

Zelda knew the way to City Hall by heart. Week after week she had picked up Violette from school, staring at it across the street while admiring how its stately white columns reflected the sunlight like a mirror. Now, she was standing right in front of it, too nervous to move her feet but too restless to simply stand still anymore.
She looked down at the card in her hand once more, even though she knew every line from anxious fixation. Alexander Barnes, Librarian. Letting out a deep breath, she put the card in her pocket before walking into the building.
As she stepped inside the heavy wooden doors swung shut behind her. Immediately, the noise and heat from the courtyard became a distant memory. In front of her another set of doors were open wide to a simple courtroom, one she hadn’t seen in half a decade. Quietly, a myriad of emotions overcame her, bolstering her resolve as she realized that maybe this place was a nexus of new beginnings for her after all.
A new sense of calm accompanied her as she followed a dim, sparsely furnished hallway to a closed door inscribed with a shining metal plate. Alexander Barnes, Librarian. She stood still for a moment, listening to see if anyone was inside before she raised her hand and knocked on the door.
A distracted voice told her to enter, and before she could second guess herself she turned the metal handle and walked through the door. The office was small, filled from one corner to the next with books and mismatched furniture that made her think the whole scene was moments away from bursting at the seams.
In the middle of it all sat a man at his desk, his glasses beginning to fall down the bridge of his nose as he stared diligently at a stack of papers in front of him. At the sound of her footsteps, his gaze bolted up and he seemed not to recognize her. Both of them looked at eachother with embarrassment, and Zelda nearly turned on her heels and walked back out the door.
She tried to muster an apology before leaving unceremoniously, but just as she gathered the courage to do so, a smile overtook the man’s face and he pointed familiarly in her direction. “Mrs. Duplanchier! You must forgive me. You’ve caught me in the middle of a letter that has taken just about every ounce of my concentration. And all of this - the office - I mean, well, it’s just a mess, I fear. Would you - do you want to sit?”
His voice trailed off as he looked around the room for a chair. Other than his own there was only one, tucked into the corner and covered with books. As he moved them onto the floor Zelda’s eyes wandered through the room. He had books on every surface, tucked onto shelves, in stacks on the floor, perched precariously at the edge of the desk. But as she watched him move them to make room for her, she could tell that they had all been stacked carefully and with love.
“Ah! Here you are,” he rounded the desk and sat across from her, allowing her eyes to finish searching every square inch of the space without pressing her with questions. Her gaze finally settled back on his, which was still looking at her curiously. It didn’t seem to throw off her words quite as much as most people’s did. “This is - it's quite a collection you have here. I often thought the books I’d managed to collect were noteworthy but this - this is just remarkable.”
His eyebrow lifted slightly. “Do you have a collection?”
Zelda laughed lightly, mostly to cover up the embarrassment that she felt anytime she talked about herself. “It feels a bit silly calling it that here, amongst something so impressive. It’s mostly just books I brought from home - from England, I mean, when I was a girl. But I’ve bought what I could over the years.”
“England! I thought I may have heard as much back at the truck. How did you possibly end up here?”
Her eyes trailed away from him slightly, roaming back to the stacks of books that were lining the walls. “Its a long story, I suppose. One infinitely less interesting than any selection of which you have here. May - may I ask you about them? The books, I mean. And the truck. All of it really, how any of this came to be.”
With an affirmative nod of his head Zelda began the litany of questions that had come to her mind over the weeks of waiting for this meeting. There was very little about his job that she didn't want to know. Where had the books come from? Where did he drive? Was someone pay him to do so? Where was he headed next?
He answered each question thoroughly and patiently, as though no one had taken the time to have such an interest in his work before. As she reached her last question, where was he headed next, he smiled widely and pushed his glasses up even higher on his nose. “Nowhere, hopefully. I’m working on a request for the Works Projects Administration to open a permanent location in Strangerville.”
Zelda’s eyes went wide in disbelief. “A - a real library, here? In Strangerville?”
“That’s my hope. Of course there are competing proposals but I’ve been surveying the region and the town is perfect. With the Route running through it and the abandoned Queen Annes up the hill, it’s exactly what the Administration is looking for.”
He could easily read the look on her face, a mix of childish amazement and interest, and ventured further, “Listen, I - I unfortunately can’t promise anything; but if you have an interest in the project I will need a team. They’ll want a catalog of everything I’ve collected and a survey of potential locations. I should know who the grant is awarded to in five - maybe six days? I’ll write to you, if you’re interested.”
“Yes!” She answered so quickly that her anxiety barely had time to register what she was saying. “I - would love that.”
