How to Fully Overhaul The Sims 2 Bodyshop (Mods List)

Brightness

Backgrounds
There are two kinds of backgrounds on BodyShop; a 3D scene and a 2D image. The 3D scene is the one you see in the pictures above, and the 2D is a flat image that appears when you press F5. There are default replacements for both of these, and you can have one of each type at the same type without problems.
2D Backgrounds
If you want to change the background that shows when you press F5, you can use one of these plain color backgrounds by @kat-simss. Here's how one of these looks:

4t2 Sweet Sweater mesh edit and default I thought this sweater converted by @mdpthatsme would be perfect to replace the basegame vnecklongsleeve top! I ended up making 11 recolors based on @serabiet's beautiful retexture, and made a new fat morph because I like to stare at boobs for hours to remove the sharp creases and "vacuum packed" effect in the chest area, making it more consistent with the thin morph.

I made it into a default for aftopvnecklongsleeve, and used @deedee-sims' TF conversion to replace tftopvnecklongsleeve. I included completer recolors for TF so that teens get all the adult options. DOWNLOAD vnecklongsleeve default (AF and TF merged in one file)

Almost every Maxis hair replaced with Pooklet textures + my selection of colors.

(I'm not going to show you the entire catalog of every hair. Read below for the ones that aren't included.)
So I'm enduring the massive, totally unnecessary undertaking of creating my own color palette for all my hairs. This is not a hair system per se, just Pooklet and Io textures in my own personal favorite colors. I have no idea who else would find these useful, but I like uploading stuff I make just in case it saves the time of one person out there. Anyways, there are going to be three natural families, but only one family for defaults:

Red: Io's Copper
Gray: Almighty Hat's Smoke Bomb
When thinking about how I was going to do all this, I decided against simply recoloring my previous defaults, because I want a lot of those hairs in multiple color families. SO, I decided to recolor Maxis hairs in my default palette. I actually like a lot of these meshes, and their low polygons make up for me being extra and using sexy feet and smooth hands.

For textures, I used Aquilegia's textures for the base game non-hat hairs, Ja's textures for University through Mansion and Garden, Katsurin's textures for some of the hats, and made my own textures for some of the other hats using existing .packages from Maxboy at MTS. The files clearly state the source of all the textures.
I didn't do every single hair. At a certain point (that point being when I ran out of other people's textures to recolor and had to start retexturing things myself), I kinda tapped out and accepted just hiding/using other defaults for the hairs I hadn't done.
For example, I didn't do any of the holiday hairs because I will never use them, the base game hairs Aquilegia chose to hide, and a few of the hat hairs. I might make a completer set at a later date, but don't count on it. I'll probably get distracted by another project by then.
Everything is compressorized, files are renamed so there's no special characters, and everything should be pretty clearly labelled if you want to pick and choose. Do note that the EP/SP hairs as merged, whereas the base game ones aren't.

Recolor number 00 in each set contains envcube mask and is required by other recolors.
Metallic Messina dress recolors all use one envcube mask texture and one grey clothing texture, colors are added with TXMT settings only.

Same with dark shades of Disheveled suit - four recolors, only two textures.

Hourglass Dress Short mesh contains two shoe textures: black and beige, I've also included TXMT setting files ready to be imported into recolors, so you can easily swap those if you wish.
BTW I also included TXMT settings that you can merge with 4t2 Messina recolors converted by Platasp. This will add a snakeskin envcube/mask (from my recolor).

When adding shine to custom clothing, remember that shiny subset has to be separate from skin and that TXMT Type (cMaterialDefinition tab) has to be set to SimStandardMaterial !

Notes on recolouring clothes with envcubemask:
SimPe is required.
Here's a tutorial on adding shine to clothes - but the quickest way is to simply import TXMT settings with shine and mask from recolor that already has those, and edit texture names (& cMaterialDefinition TXMT type, if it's set to SimSkin).
Bodyshop breaks envcube masks - when you make a new recolor of shiny outfit it will turn the mask to transparent DXT3
borked texture has to be replaced with ExtRaw8bit texture, or you can remove it and link TXMT to envcube mask texture name from another package (stdMatEnvCubeMaskTextureName line). I recommend removing custom envcube texture that Bodyshop creates and using TS2 envcube (stdMatEnvCubeTextureName line).
I find that reflectionsilver-envcube is the best for neutral and colorized shiny patterns on clothing, unless you want bright gold shine - then reflectiongold-envcube works best, with stdMatEnvCubeCoef set to pure white.
Envcubes often used for objects, like reflectionsparking-envcube, will look quite mirror-y and dark in envcube blend mode.
stdMatEnvCubeMode: blend mode works best for medium / dark textures, while diffuseRadiance mode works best for light clothing textures. There's also standard Reflection mode, which is quite subtle, probably best if you'd like to make patches of clothing look like satin or plastic.
To achieve nice glitter / sparkle effect, Envcube mask has to be crisp, high contrast, black and white. Make sure you have 100% black on parts that are not supposed to be shiny.
stdMatEnvCubeCoef line is the reflection color / brightness. Envcubes have their own colors already, so your reflection color settings will be affected by it. Reflectionsilver-envcube texture is neutral with greyish-blue shadows, no dark spots.
Reflection with mask can be previewed in Bodyshop. Have in mind that reflections look quite bright when camera is in front of a Sim, but when you open the game and look at the same outfit at an angle, it won't be as bright. /Also - unlike shiny object recolors, these don't become extra shiny outdoors./
In this vid you can see reflectionkitchenhighcontrast-envcube used for silver dress - looked great but when I put that dress on my Sim, and looked at it from above, reflections were barely visible.

Bodyshop Shortcuts Tutorial for Beginners (The Sims 2)
F3: Toggles the free camera mode. While in this mode, click and hold left mouse button to rotate, right mouse button to zoom in and out, and both mouse buttons to move the camera around.
F5: Toggles the Bodyshop background (the shelves with clothes, the rotating stage and all that) on and off. By default, turning it off will show a solid black background. You can change this background to any image by adding a bmp image file to your Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 folder. Make sure the bmp file is called "userBkg.bmp".
F6: Sets the sim model to a T pose. This is useful for previewing retextured or custom clothes you made. To set the sim back to the regular pose, make any changes, like changing their clothes or hair.
F7: Sets the camera (while out of free camera mode) to the default full body position, the one that appears when you change skintones and clothes.
F8: Sets the camera (while out of free camera mode) to the default close up position, the one that appears when you change eyes, hair face details and accessories.
F9: Toggles the UI (user interface) on and off. When the UI is hidden, the sim snaps to the center of the window. The UI buttons won't work while the UI is hidden.

Mod Organizing & Load Order Shenanigans

Published: 5-1-2024 | Updated: N/A MOD ORGANIZING During the [first] "pandemic summer," I started reorganizing my game folders. I also started  a "conflict management" list, containing all the known conflict info from download pages, new conflicts I discover while playtesting, etc. It's 44 pages long at the moment....a testament to my unapologetic mod addiction. I encourage all simmers to keep a list like this. It’s very reassuring (and handy!) to be able to look up known conflicts or keep track of mods which have been merged (duplicate files can break your game FAST!).  **I won’t be able to share mine at this time but most of my info comes from the same pages where I download CC/mods - shout out to the creators who take the time to include this info.

MY LOAD ORDER(S) I number my folders and use mostly lower case filenames to force the load order I want – these were the most important changes I made re: how I maintain a heavily-modded-but-still -very-functional game. With few exceptions, this has been much more effective than keeping track of the number of z's and cases. It also means I don't need to rename downloaded files - I just put them in the right folder. When I played exclusively on mac, I learned that numbering the store cc folders was the ONLY way I could get all the content to work. I never figured out why but I imagine it was because the mac series doesn't include expansions required for some of this content.
DETAILS (the codes) I put that grad school debt...I mean...those grad school research skills to good use and made up my own codes. Here they are... 0= files needed in every save aka my "essentials." These include repair files, shader/UI files, CEPs, global probes (like scriptorium, money globals, inteen checker, inventory checker, etc).

1= mods that do NOT need a load order, some OFB-themed sets I want to keep separate from other CC - like the #co2bellabrand or upcoming #co2cdkseries stuff.

2= mods that require a hard load order. As @episims writes HERE, this only works for mods with non-game-breaking conflicts between them. Only the last mod in the sequence will retain ALL its intended functions. The code for this section goes like this: [number]-[what the mod deals with in-game; i make sure to consider alphabetical order]-[load order number] -name of the mod(s)

I have several global mods that need to load as close to LAST as possible. These folders all start with "2-z-[load order #]-." The "2" tells me they need to load in a certain order and the "-z" makes them load after all the other #2 folders.

See Object Freedom 1.02 (@fwaysims, 2023) and Shiftable Everything (@lamare-sims, 2022) both load at #78? I don't have them BOTH in game at the same time, but giving them the same number ensures that the right load order stays no matter which one i'm paying with. 3 = build mode and neighborhood deco/defaults

OTHER DETAILS I also label folders with certain "type codes" - these tell me things like whether they add permanent data to my saves (custom memories, careers, foods, etc. do this) or whether they are maxis-match. Here are some examples:
-BIN = mod files which go in the program folders -DEF = default replacement -MEM = this content includes custom memory data -MM = maxis-match or an add-on for default game furniture -ADD = content that is not maxis-match -NPC = this content includes or changes one or more NPCs -FIX  or -EDIT = this is a fixed or uniquely edited version of a pre-existing mod -BETA and -TEST = this mod is unfinished and/or a test version Remember, conflicts do not always mean something has to be removed from your game, nor are all conflicts unresolvable. No matter what kind of method(s) you use to organize your game – it’s just important to try/have at least one in the cut.

This was something that was definately on my list to redo in Afterglow, but I had been putting off just down to the sheer amount of items that would need recolouring... but now my texture defaults are done, I may as well tackle my Nihongami style kit!
Ultimatley most of the information is the same as my Pooklet texture version. To save you downloading both versions, I've included all of the non-hair texture accessories in the zip, too. Remember to pick one mesh for the Long Yue bun, the original mesh, or the edited mesh that works better with the shimada hairstyle. The only new thing really is that I made a second alpha edit of the Rose hime bangs that are shorter than the original alpha, but they don't clash and you can have both. All hairpieces are in the five Afterglow naturals in seperate labelled packages. The original bodyshop previews have the details of the different mesh variations so here are those:

I was watching Blue Eye Samurai a while ago, and there's a lot of shimada inspiration there, the animators took care to give the characters varying shapes and styles, so the variety is really cool to see ^^

Then I made some recolours of the base hair, the Goze Traditional Shimada. @letomills has an odd ability to intuit what I want without even asking, and made an edited version of the mesh which works better with hairlines, which is really something that disspointed me with the original mesh, so those are the meshes included! I made 3 variations on the alpha; the first is the 'original' shimada; with the shibori and the tama kanzashi. This time I made the decision to edit out the odd coin shaped kanzashi as I can't say I'm entireley sure what it was ment to be, and it was just getting in the way of nice and authentic looking styles. I also added a shibori texture to the shibori because... why was there a shibori tie with no shibori in the first place? The second alpha is the flowers one, I made the same pink and blue versions as in Leto's edit. the last is my plain, no accessories shimada, which is just hair with no extra accessories to be layered with a variety of hairpieces or just worn by itself! Lastly I thought it'd be good to do the male hairstyle that Hriveresse converted from the same pack, so I fought the mapping of traditional sumo (and the mapping won, it's horrid) to accompany the F hairs. Shimada is 3638 poly, sumo is 4048, all versions come in the original Afterglow family binned into one package each, meshes in the zips, fully compressorized.

Cowlneck Sweater Dress shoeswap and default Long time no see! I've been busy playing my custom hood and making defaults/small CC edits that I'm too lazy to upload... I gathered some motivation for this dress though: It's a shoe/legswap of this cowlneck sweater dress by dutchxfan with 4t2 ankle boots by @kayleigh-83, using the age conversion by @deedee-sims for the TF version. For the textures I used recolors by @mikexx2 and leggings by @serabiet. Basically putting together many bits and pieces from other creators... Default Hair Dump: Apartment Life
**I did not originally default any of these hairs or create the textures. I simply replaced textures in Simpe and recolored textures that did not already include my preferred colors. Credit to those who did the hard work!**
Most hairs come in Dynamite, Depth Charge, Volatile, Pyrotechnic, and Mailbomb. Afro-textured or very curly hairs come in Dynamite, Depth Charge, Incendiary, Explosive, and Pipe Bomb. This will be the case for all defaults that I upload. These do not include every single hair from Apartment Life- just the ones I felt like working on!

In The Sims 2, Sim faces contain hidden morphs that can be extracted in different ways. For a long time, only two morphs were known, but there are actually more.
1. Extracting Morphs via SimPE
What You Need:
SimPE (enable "Advanced Mode" in the settings).
Sims2Pack Clean Installer (if no ready-made files are available).
MilkShape 3D 1.8.5
Steps:
Get the Face File:
If you have a SavedSims folder, choose any file from it.
If not, extract any Sim using Sims2Pack Clean Installer and locate the Face Preset file.
Open the File in SimPE:
Open the file in SimPE.
Find the Geometric Data Container (GMDC) resource.
Select the Sim's age group.
Export the Model with Morphs:
Click Export..., save the file in SMD format.
When prompted "Do you want to export Morph Meshes??", select Yes.
View Morphs in MilkShape 3D:
Import via File → Import → Half-Life SMD....
Select a morph and uncheck Rename Bones.
What Do the Morphs Contain?
One morph shows a smiling expression.
Another shows an angry or displeased expression.
2. Extracting All Morphs via 5gd File
What You Need:
SimPE.
Blender 2.80+.
GMDC Importer/Exporter (Blender plugin).
Steps:
Export the Face Model as a 5gd File:
In SimPE, open GMDC.
Right-click → Extract....
Save the file as 5gd.
Import into Blender:
Install the GMDC Importer/Exporter plugin.
Open Blender 2.80+ (Blender 2.79 only shows 4 morphs).
Import the 5gd file.
What Do the Morphs Contain?
Importing into Blender 2.80+ reveals all hidden morphs.
Additional Information
You can replace the default face model with one of the morphs to create a new default preset.
It works correctly in BodyShop and CAS.
There may be even more hidden morphs in the game that have yet to be discovered.
