@simplypavus​ Hi! I do read tags every once in a while, but my ask box is open as well! Not only would I LOVE to get asks like this, but I’m also a lot more likely to miss a question if its just in the tags :( SO, I’m pretty new to map making so I’m experimenting with different methods of doing things. I’d suggest gathering inspiration, + there are tons of tutorials online to check out. The person who did the maps for Game of Thrones has a lot of simple tutorials on their site & some pinterest boards too. If you’re interested in Photoshop brushes, there’s all sorts you can mess with, just search “cartography brushes” either on google or deviant art. Here’s some I’ve messed with. I especially like the road/border brushes in this set.

As for the Map of the City of Alamor, there’s a bunch more progress photos under the read more! This isn’t necessarily a great way to go about it, but I’ve never done a city map before so I just kinda... had to feel it out. I would do things differently next time I think. Here’s an update on the WIP!

I started on a 4000x4000px canvas with this partially inked drawing that the DM sent me. (That square in the upper left is an approximate top down of the Hagia Sophia, to help with scaling & also because the architecture of this city is meant to be partially inspired by that of Istanbul/Constantinople)

I went straight to inking and helping develop the buildings on the bridge (the most important part), we worked together to decide district types & layout (& still aren’t quite done deciding what is where lol) We were referencing a guide to city building that included a huge list of district types & their population density, but I can’t seem to find it right now... I think its somewhere in The Trove..?

We also did some large messy shapes for the districts on either side of the bridge. 

I started sketching out streets but then discovered it was a lot faster & easier to use a rake brush. I even made myself a little quick reference of the brush sizes that i was using + how wide of a street they made (except I didn’t use that small one) 

Once I had all the roads in place, I sketched in a ton of buildings. I spent way too much time doing this & wound up changing a lot of things in the ink version.

I sketched out and inked the entire northern side of the city. In the interests of not drawing another thousand tiny buildings twice, I’m gonna try only sketching out important buildings on the southern side, then just straight inking the many many tiny rectangles.

@simplypavus So, he’s super scribbley and I took a lot of liberties but he was fun to draw! Since Seine is a paladin (i hope?) I gave him some light armor and wanted to keep with the blue and gold theme. I wanted to go with some aasimar effects so I put wings on the arm gauntlet thingy and gave him glowy eyes. Thank you for letting me draw him!!!

If they have more building stuff I might check it but the fact that its probably gonna be multiplayer has me on edge

as long it’s only co-op im okay with multiplayer, but for that we’ll have to wait and see, i’m not really into rumors. And yeah i think there might be some building, it’s probably gonna be like an upgraded version of fallout 4 so I think they might bring back some things
