WHAT IS DOVES AND CROWS? An indie animation web series. It is a 2D animation that centers disabled main characters in a fun fantasy adventure. WHAT ARE WE DOING? We are working on a 1 minute teaser to raise funding for the show. HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT? Like, and share our stuff! Feel free to follow us as well. Unfortunately not, but the idea is to use the teaser to help fund the show through grants and crowdfunding. That way once the studio is officially ready to produce the series, we will prioritize hiring the volunteers for paid work. At the moment, we are making a teaser for the purposes of building up the future of the project!

Currently, we are reopening auditions! We are looking for artists, animators, voice actors, and sound and video editors!

A 1-min animated teaser proof-of-concept. This will be in hopes of procuring funding through grants and crowdfunding to be able to fund the future of this project.

WILL THIS PROJECT BE PAID?

It will not be paid. Depending on the outcome of this teaser, it hopefully will become paid but I have decided to tag it as unpaid because I didn't want to make promises I might not be able to keep.

REQUIREMENTS

1 - You must be over the age of 16

2 - You must be kind and passionate

3 - You must include an audition or portfolio/example of your work

4 - You must have a Discord (please include it in your application)

5 - Absolutely no AI art

A thousand years ago, the deity Chaos was sealed by Order. A thousand years ago, all progress in the world stopped.

But when Sam, a fourteen-year-old with epilepsy, accidentally frees Chaos, he discovers there's more to life than the routines and predictability that have ruled the world for so long.

Now, having access to Chaos' magic, Sam takes on the persona 'Crow' - a magical thief. His mission? Steal the artifacts used to seal Chaos before Order can use them to reseal Sam's newfound mentor.

Of course, it won't be easy. Order finds his own protege, Mia, a fourteen-year-old girl with autism, who takes on the mantle 'Dove'.

It’s a race to collect the artifacts. A fight to preserve the predictability of the last millennium or trek towards an unknown future.

Hi there! I’m going to be building an animation studio dedicated to normalizing disability through interesting stories with disabled main characters!

It’s going to take awhile to officially start up but to start I have an idea for an animated show for the studio, Doves and Crows.

I’m actually looking for people who might want to work on this project with me. We’ll be creating a 1 minute animation proof of concept (and perhaps even a trailer depending on how things go) to procure funding for the project and studio.

Unfortunately to apply for funds the proof of concept is needed first, so I’ll be unable to pay for these steps, but should things go well or even decent in the future I should be able to start paying people.

ABOUT DISABILITY:

Disability representation in the media is often really bad. Often disabled characters are used as "inspiration", are really 1 dimensional, or their arc consists of becoming not-disabled. Yikes.

As someone with a disability this treatment of disabled characters is so very frustrating.

That's why I wanted to create stories with MAIN characters with disabilities. These disabilities will be actual parts of the character's life and identity (not just aesthetic choices).

The stories while not specifically about disability, will be impacted by disability because it impacts how the characters interact with the world and how they approach and solve problems.

For example in Doves and Crows, Sam has epilepsy and Mia is autistic. While the story itself isn't about epilepsy and autism, these disabilities affect how these characters live and interact.

Of course, while I'm autistic, I do not have epilepsy. As such I am partnered with a local epilepsy advocacy group where I am currently connecting with people who have epilepsy and learning quite a lot!
