The #simplesew #lorettajewelneckdress is completed! I'm happy with the results, but I know where I need to improve! The material isn't the best option, I think this would feel so nice with a tiny bit of give in the fabric. It would also help if the material didn't melt when pressed. ;-) I also need to be more careful with my seam allowance as I butchered the hips.

hello! ive got a bit of an odd one for you. ive got a favourite rainbow umbrella but it's getting holes in the fabric at the joints, making it no longer waterproof. i imagine some waterproof patches would do the trick, but would you happen to know of a way to just replace the fabric completely? or do you have any other suggestions?

Recovering an umbrella

Waterproof patches are a good way to go if you don't want to recover the entire thing. It's also possible to replace the fabric of an umbrella, indeed.

Don't throw out the old fabric: waterproof fabric's great to make outdoor projects from (e.g. a bicycle seat cover), or to mend other waterproof items with.

Sew pretty ... Sometimes a fabric calls my name and this beautiful blue poly-cotton, with a vintage sewing machine print, shouted ‘buy me buy me’ very loudly indeed. A lovely customer in the ThreadShed last summer made a half circle skirt out of the fabric initially but there was plenty left for this gorgeous sash blouse just for me. I used a New Look pattern which was a fairly simple pattern to follow and one I would definitely recommend to any newish sewist. The sun was shining yesterday in Freshwater East and The ThreadShed brought a bit of happy smiley creativity to a lovely customer who was on holiday in the area. The customer had some bad juju about sewing and had definitely not enjoyed needlework lessons at school. However, as she had been pondering on trying to make some some soft furnishings she booked into the ThreadShed for an ‘Arty Farty Sew Your Own Cushion Cover Experience. ” She did a really beautiful job on her cushion cover and was proud of her first sewing project in many years. In fact, she enjoyed herself so much that she is off to buy a sewing machine and when she next visits the area is going to bring her new machine with her and try another challenge.
