Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Since this game seems to have slipped under the radar for the most part, I wanted to give it a shout out and recommend it to all lovers of puzzle games.
The basic premise is that you play as a woman invited to a secluded and almost completely uninhabited hotel somewhere in central europe. You're given almost no information to start out and it's up to you to piece together what is happening (and what already happened).
In the house there are puzzles. So many puzzles. Several people have compared the puzzle aspect to Professor Layton (which I have not played). They range from logic puzzles, to patterns, to spotting hidden elements in images, manipulating and mirroring, memory games, etc, etc.
It's not an action game; there are no enemies or combat. I also wouldn't call it horror so much as mystery, though it is a little creepy at times.
The visual aesthetic of it is quite striking, being in black and white with only splashes of red/violet in certain places. Also the soundtrack was fantastic.
It draws a lot of inspiration from things like surrealist cinema, horror games (think original resident evil without combat), and more. Several reviews have said it has Twin Peak vibes. And it has things to say about art and capitalism.
While there are some minor annoyances with the controls (no dedicated back button in menus is the big one), overall it played really well and I never got bored. It's also really fun to play with a second person (no online co-op or anything, just through streaming on discord or something) and work together on the puzzles.
So if you like puzzle games in creepy houses with slowly unfurling mysteries, it's definitely worth grabbing.

How have I never drawn fan art of this game before it literally built me.
Everyone and their entire families should play Ilomilo right now I'm not even kidding it's so good and fun and creative the emotional and I HATE that everyone sleeps on it.
Progress images (and some design points) below the cut:
When customizing the designs, I wanted to make them look like the source materials, ie. plushies. I made them have seams an stiches like their original designs but gave them cloaks instead of the weird body suits they naturally have. Also, the rectangles where their faces are are masks. Their actual faces are much fluffier.
That's really it. I love them. Play their game. Listen to their OST. Do it. Do it already-
Have a nice day dudes :))
#ilo's design feels so underwheming compared to milo#like he's just plat and milo has plat/flowers/sparkles#the whole 9 yards#but that alright ig#i tried to make them as accurate as possible pattern-wise to their real game selves#I think i did a good job tbh#they're so cutie petuties#hello dead fandom it is I#ilomilo#ilomilo game#how do you tag this????#illustration#simogo#simogogames#milton foley#ilona zevon#ilo#milo#katiekatdragon27

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes coming to PS5, PS4 on December 3 - Gematsu
Publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Simogo will release puzzle game Lorelei and the Laser Eyes for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on December 3, the companies announced.
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes first launched for Switch and PC via Steam on May 16.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
The stage is set. Imagine an old baroque manor, perhaps a hotel or a museum, somewhere in central Europe. A woman wanders in search of answers. An international auteur. What does he want? An aristocratic artist. Who killed her? A vagabond illusionist. Who is he? And you, the wandering woman. Why are you here? Watch carefully, observe. Numbers. Patterns. Puzzles. Are they all part of a macabre game, a complot, a simple treasure hunt? We invite you to take a journey into the nightmarish surreality, and answer these questions to solve the enigma of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes—a non-linear adventure puzzle—no—place—yes—place.

Simogo's Simon Flessler Discusses Inspiration, Design, Fulfillment in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
For a team that's no stranger to dishing out hit after hit of titles that challenge conventions and usual genre standards, to go one step further than even the lofty achievements accomplished prior, takes some doing. But what exactly was the reason for Lorelei's stark change in artistic direction, tone and Simogo's return to the world of ciphers and puzzles to solve? We recently had a chance to sit down with Simon Flessler, co-founder of the studio, to discuss not just the thought processes and inspirations that went into Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, but now just over two months after release, Flessler's own reaction to its glowing reception from both critics and the player-base alike.
Check it out!

so much for the lorelei tag, i finished the game lol
#99% completion and perfectly fine with it#i did end up having to look up my biggest roadblock only to find that i literally already knew the solution it was just not input correctly#like i had to press a button faster than i was there was just no indication that that's what was needed lmao#a couple other annoying things (no way to reduce flickering. no dedicated close menu button) but ultimately a very solid game#kat plays lorelei and the laser eyes#video games are a struggle#looking forward to simogo's next thing 🎉

Breaking News!!!
After several years of wondering where the plushie versions of ilo & milo ended up (or if they even still existed), we finally have an answer...
They're still together!
"After southend closed down, @/sidebjorn took them home." -@/simogo on Twitter
There's also a framed drawing that can be seen in the game under "train concepts"
(Anyway, this is very cool to see & Thanks again to Björn & Simogo for responding!)
#ilomilo#ilomilo plus#ilo#milo#mystery solved!#also#apparently milo's clockwork is bent the wrong way#looking pretty good for being 12+ years old though!

Game of the year time right? Here are my picks in no particular order
Lorelei and The Laser Eyes
I keep writing and erasing words about this game because i have difficulty knowing what to even say about it. Idk simogo did it again.
Into The Breach
I'm not stopping until every single one of these bugs is dead. I like to play the cataclysm squad but swap out their ranged mech for the steel judoka prime for a fighting style i call "shithead basketball"
UFO 50
I don't think I've ever seen this much love and care go into a rerelease or remaster. Quibble Race and Devilition play exactly as I remember them and getting to come at games that stumped me as a kid like Barbuta or Planet Zoldath gave me new appreciation for what UFO Soft was doing back then. Also the influence they must have had on games like Spelunky or Downwell.
Rise of The Golden Idol
What would happen if a secret network of huge dumbasses driven entirely by egotism and a lack of scruples got their hands on godlike levels of power? Nothing good but to an outside observer who was somehow beyond their reach it would probably be pretty funny
Eidolon: Become Your Best Self
This is a game where you have shonen anime battles using oddly specific super powers. The main touchpoints are jojo's bizarre adventure and the Persona games but i feel like you could do fullmetal alchemist or my hero academia or even something like yowamushi pedal.
In my own game Ive been playing as a bankrobbing nun who can perfectly sense unfinished work around her and has normal ideas about morals and spirituality and definitely isnt in way over her head
Eidolon Playtest
I think this is just the best actual play. The cast are constantly putting together such wonderful characters and inventive scenarios. Listen to this if you too would like to get excited every time someone says "I'd like to reveal my master plan"
Leap Year
This is a short platformer that unfolds delightfully. It opens with a killer joke and then piece by piece sets you up to learn its secrets. By the end everything looks so differrent but also nothing has changed

Device 6
Simogo, 2013
A text-based narrative puzzle game where the player reads through interactive chapters that blend words and visuals in unique ways. The story unfolds like a novel, with the player solving puzzles, but there’s a constant sense of manipulation by the system. The illusion of choice is strong, with seemingly critical decisions subtly guiding the player to predetermined conclusions.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is Simogo At Their Cryptic, Creative, Downright Audacious Best
To think: there was once a time where the prospect of the Swedish developer even matching, let alone exceeding, the highs of Sayonara Wild Hearts five years previous were brushed off as near-impossible. Early days sure, but the absolute mad lads of Malmö may well have done it. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes may well be Simogo's most daring and downright ambitious title yet.
