girl (gender neutral) no offense but this is the same as alphabet completionist. not even different enough to be a spin off like you serve the same purpose fundamentally
🤣 this is so funny! No offense taken, but "spin off"? I literally came first. We just happened to have the same idea.
Also, I count how many letters in each reblog and @alphabetcompletionist just counts the post as a whole. Obviously, I'm better.

Awesome! Instead of the winner you will be going against certifiedratposts as I realize they are more similar. The poll will go live next Monday along side the bible percent blogs. May the best rat post certifier win! 🤝
Hey, I was just going through @certifiedratposts blog and found yours. I'm running a poll blog comparing blogs with similar/the same gimmicks. I just started the rat post detector poll. Did you want to be included? If so, I would just do a pt. 2 of the poll with you against the winner once it's finished.
- @similar-blog-showdown
we would be honored to enter into your competition, as long as no ill will is harbored.
we also apologize for taking so long to reply to your inquiry, and we congratulate @rat-detector on their decisive victory!

THIS IS INCREDIBLY SELF-INDULGENT BUT. MY BLOG!
notes: power imbalance, sexual harrassment, murder mentions.
rotating a thought in my head where 'you' are an increasingly popular erotica writer from the pride ring. with writing, you've hit a bit of a niche, as a lot of the big porn producers (VoxTech's subsidiaries) are not exactly known for their riveting dialogue or personalities. no one's there for anything more than that, but there are demons who do want a bit more 'meat', so to say, with nowhere else turn. that is where you come in!
it's not enough to make a steady living off of, not even when you start taking incredibly specific commissions, but it's never been more of a hobby anyway. you are completely anonymous online, keeping care to use throwaway emails and accounts for everything. still, voxtech's products are utterly inescapable: it's either using them, or using nothing at all. (and those rumours about their boss vox having complete control over his technology, even after selling, has to be a rumour... you hope.)
meanwhile, as your penname continues to grow more and more recognizable, it falls in the vees' meeting room. valentino's immediate suggestion is just to kill you. people in the comments keep comparing his dialogue to yours. what the fuck is that about? who the hell watches porn for the DIALOGUE in the first place?
velvette, while shrugging her shoulders, only adds that their new releases tend to go trending, prior to release. fucking far from the top of that list, but still. trending is trending.
vox, sighing internally, plasters a smile on his face. there's really no need to kill new up and coming talent, val. we should suggest them to work for us instead. and if they don't... we can simply prevent them from working. they'll make up their mind, then.
you return to your laptop to an utterly inescapable pop-up describing the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to work at voxtech! it's a whole wall of text, describing your pay (higher than you would have expected), where you will be living (in one of the appartment buildings owned by voxtech), and when to head to their main office. there is no word on denying the contract, an utter impossibility, it seems. not that you'd dare. vox's and the radio demon's showdown was the talk of the ring for days, and apparantly, all that rancour was the source of alastor denying a contract of his own. that really is more shit than you can handle in your undead life now. so, you take the job.
as your stories are starting to get heavily promoted, velvette absolutely insists that you add in at least a couple of looong clothing descriptions, based on her tastes. she's such an overwhelming, pushy presence, that it's hard for you to say no. she goes on about how, if it gets popular enough, people might be interested in somewhat similar outfits. probably not, though, let's be honest with ourselves. she makes you model them, all the while telling you that you really wouldn't be allowed to breathe in the direction of her studio otherwise. when you ask her why you absolutely have the one modelling, she just rolls her eyes. you based large parts of their appearances after you, didn't you? might as well make you look the part.
valentino is one of the worst parts of the job. compared to everyone else, he hardly pesters you, but he's still a terrifying presence. he'll give you 'suggestions' and make you steer your work in certain directions, getting too close and blowing smoke into your face. he gives a graphic description of how he jacked off to one of your stories, just to see your response. (this is a lie: why would he jack off if he can just call some stupid whore over to do it for him? also, he doesn't read.)
if a part of one of your stories ever gets a 'porno adaptation', he's having you play the part of the director, and has you sit in during the entirety of the viewing. you can tell he takes great pleasure out of any of your discomfort, or any of your fumbling- until it's too sloppy, and then he gets mad, of course, and you end up leaving the room with shaky legs.
vox seems to be the nicest one out of the three of them. really, he's only ever been courteous to you. but you've seen him flip his lid during the aforementioned 'radio demon fiasco', which you have been wise enough to never mention, so you still walk on eggshells around him. he can also get pretty pushy about deadlines, so you're not taking any chances.
he insists on having semi-regular meetings with you about the sales figures of your most recent works, wherein you also have to describe your process on other projects and pitch new ideas. frankly, you wish these meetings could be an email! but even when you tried to broach the subject, telling him that, surely, the company leader's time is much more important than this?
he simply brushed you off, telling you that he can decide for himself who and what to spend his time on, thank you very much. now, please continue. he'll inform you of the latest kinks and dynamics that have been most popular, though with some peculiar additions as well. you swear that, sometimes, the main character really does seem to resemble yourself in those suggestions, and the love interest a member of the vees...? you're certain you're just imagining it.

Hi! I'm M, and I plan on making multiple tournaments on this blog, this being the first of (hopefully) many.
I've always thought that characters that seem so incredibly different, maybe even seeming to be each other's antithesis, yet have a common thread that makes them two sides of the same coin. Maybe they have similar childhoods, traumas, motivations- yet their personalities and the way they act and the ways they chose to live their lives are so distinct. It's always fun to see.
Share with me your favorite duos that fit this description and let's make a tournament out of it! I'm going to allow 64 duos max and I'm going to require a minimum of 3 submissions. I'll close it off before I get more than 64. If I don't reach that amount of duos by next Friday, I'll shrink it down to 32 or lower the required amount of submissions.
(either romantic or platonic is fine) (they do not have to be enemies as long as they fit this trope) (I'm free to not include duos if they're from media I'm not comfortable with since I'm doing this for fun) (please don't submit the same duos multiple times)
(Submissions are closed)
This is a spread sheet of all the characters submitted so far and how many submissions they've gotten (and also if they have propaganda)⬇️
other tournaments/poll stuff that helped motivate my brain to actual doing this:

Sick of your favs losing polls because no one knows who they are? Me too!
Welcome to the Obscure Character Showdown, where you can resubmit your submissions to other polls that didn't get in, your submissions that lost because the other character was far more well known, or a character you've never submitted anywhere, but still think of as obscure enough!
Some submission guidelines and info:
-Fictional characters only, no real people
-In this poll, characters with the least number of submissions take precedence! The more submissions your character has, the less likely they'll be to get in. So dig deep, and try to pick a character you think other people wouldn't!
-You can submit multiple characters, but only submit each character once. This is a general thing I always say, but spamming me will especially not help you here
-The submission form will be up for a week as of the day this is posted (May 14-May 21, 3pm PST)
Here you go!
Some blogs that are either doing something very similar, or have a vaguely related topic: @underrated-adversaries, @the-nobody-tournament, @anonymous-character-tournament, @guess-that-ship, @who-do-i-know-this-man
And here's some tournaments currently being run by buds: @crossovershipstournament, @crossovernonshipstournament, @yellowcharactershowdown, @facial-hair-fight, @jamesbracket, @discworldbooksbracket (if I missed any of your active polls please tell me)

Polls and Explanations
The tourney is over, and it's been a lot of fun! Especially for me, who got to see all the comments everyone left.
One recurring question I got (other than "Why would you pit two bad bitches against each other;" sir, this is the "pitting two bad bitches against each other" blog) was why I matched things up as they did. For example, putting Wind Waker up against Breath of the Wild in round one, when that seems like a final battle sort of deal.
There are two things that have always bothered me about poll tourneys.
Overwhelmingly, the results are dominated by "which is more recognizable" rather than "which is better." Just about everyone in the Zelda fandom has played Breath of the Wild, so it would outcompete almost everything based on sale numbers, which was boring and predictable.
The first few rounds never seemed to MEAN anything.
Number 1 was easy enough to fix: just add in options for "I haven't played these" and specify that you want answers from someone who's played both, and boom! You get informed opinions on which is better.
2, though, was more of a problem.
See, the way most brackets are engineered is to build up FOR that final battle. You want a clash of the titans as your finale! You want the biggest and baddest to have to claw their way to victory! You want your favorite game to have the highest kill count!
Which means your first round pits those titans against small competitors that never stood a chance, just to get them out of the way. With the exception of meme entries, nothing ever comes from that.
Of course Breath of the Wild would blow Cadence of Hyrule out of the water.
Of course the Oracles games wouldn't stand up to something like Skyward Sword.
None of these polls answer any questions. They're just obligatory so the match can get to that final battle without complaints.
Wanting to avoid that, the way I approached this bracket was a bit different. Instead of guessing at which would be the most popular and reverse-engineering that epic showdown, I wanted to match like with like.
So I made something to test the waters:
Tumblr media
Without an explanation attached, this one made a lot of people mad! Why was I separating Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which shared a map, but not Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, which were vastly different games?
I didn't have enough poll options to do every single game, so I had to mix. And the mix was strategic:
Most games on here that are paired together share fans. For example, the majority of Ocarina of Time players either like or are ambivalent towards Majora's Mask, while a VAST majority of Breath of the Wild players take issue with the story of Tears of the Kingdom. If I grouped BotW with TotK, I wouldn't be able to get a read on how many people loved TotK, because BotW would be so overwhelming.
I'd seen about equal fandom obsession with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, or with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, so I could take their result and divide it by half.
Anyone who didn't fit either of these criteria got grouped together as best as I knew how. Wind Waker and Minish Cap are both full of whimsy. Tri Force Heroes, Cadence of Hyrule, and Hyrule Warriors are all different gameplay loops than the standard Zelda, and are (at least honorary, in TFH's case) spin-offs.
This poll gave me good data. There was about an equal level of interest between Four Swords and Echoes of Wisdom. Minish Cap probably made up a very small percentage of Wind Waker votes, so it would have to fight its way up through smaller guys. Something BIG would have to go up against Breath of the Wild to have a fighting chance.
With all that in mind, I started hammering out what the polls would be. I wanted each one to
Be paired with something that had a similar level of interest
Answer a question or sate a curiosity
That way, hopefully, they'd be neck-and-neck, and I'd get some good opinions out of the people who voted one or the other.
So, with all that in mind: here's my thought process when making this tourney, step by step. You might have to click to be able to read it all.
Tumblr media
So...what now? A loser's bracket? A re-do with different matchups?
Not exactly.
I'm going to make a separate post on that. Rest assured, though, this tournament is far from over.
This was just the first run.

Something neat about... Nimloth
Nimloth is a character I've recently been diving into due to a certain ongoing project and suffice it to say, I'm once again having a blast latching on to details and expanding on them.
To me, the fact that Nimloth died alongside Dior instead of being with the refugees or taken captive (like other female characters in similar situations) indicates that she was actually fighting by his side during the Second Kinslaying. That is not to be like "not like other girls" or put any of the other female characters down - hell, I know I'd be running - but I just like the idea that she was by no means a damsel in distress and instead a fierce queen who was actively refusing any attempts to send her away or get her to safety.
And damn, do I have ideas for the details of that showdown! Unfortunately, those might be spoilers for Dead Heart or any related fics/bonus chapters that may come after so... heh. Later ;)
Suffice it to say for now, Nimloth is an icon for this and I adore having her and Dior as one of Doriath's power couples.
 ˚ ੈ✧̣̇·˖ ˚ . ✶ ˚ ✦ .   ˚ . . ★⋆. ࿐࿔ .  ˚
Thank you to @laisrinel for suggesting Nimloth!

“Something Neat About” (SNA) is a mini series on my blog where I say something I like/find cool/interesting/neat about various Tolkien (right now mostly Silmarillion) characters.
Please feel free to add your own thoughts/ideas/headcanons about the character in the comments/tags, link fanworks you or others made, show pictures of your pet you named after them, whatever you want to share; my only request is to keep it positive.
More of SNA for your perusal here. You’re also welcome to message me/send asks about characters you’d like to hear about :)

Greetings children, it’s time to play
Welcome to the Ride the Cyclone Production Poll Showdown!
Tumblr media
Notes and qualifications for productions (eligible to change):
All productions included must have opened before the polls begin on September 14th, 2024
Youth productions will not be included for the sake of the people in them
(Note: this does not mean none of the actors included will be minors, actors under 18 can and very likely will be included because of the nature of community theatre. The criteria for “youth productions” is if half or more of the actors are under 18, this means community theater productions where only one or two of the characters are played by highschoolers (ex. Street Theater) will still be included as long as everyone else are legal adults)
Canada 2009-2015 will not be included just because it was not a single solid clear production and there is still very scarce information on it compared to most other productions. Sorry.
Nothing from the US tour will be included for the sake of fairness
The same goes for McCarter Theater and Arena Stage, for very different and very obvious reasons
I’ve also made the executive decision to not include Majestic Repertory Theatre just because it’s so obviously going to win if it is and the nature of the bracket doesn’t necessarily mean what would come second if it was included would’ve come first if it wasn’t
BULLYING IS NOT TOLERATED!!!! You may submit propaganda and such in favor of a production but not against it, especially if you are digging at the actors’ performances
If a production you love is not included in the bracket please ask for it through the ask box (not by reblogs please they are very difficult to keep track of), I probably just forgot about it (you can do this up until round 2 begins)
I will do my best to pit similar productions against each other (ex: university vs university, 2 productions with similar budgets) for round one but after that it’s completely random
[blog run by @kaleidoscopiccc, please dm me any questions or concerns there, including asking to remove a certain production from the bracket]
MAY THE BEST PRODUCTION WIN!!

Disabled Character Showdown
Loving the tournaments like @autismswagsummit, @aroaceswagcompetition, @adhdswagcompetition, @bisexualswagcompetition, haven't yet seen a showdown for disabled characters yet, so let's give that a go!
Rules:
As usual, no real people, etc
Both mental and physical disabilities are allowed, though I'd ask no responses that are just adhd/autism as they've had their own showdowns, we wanna showcase other disabilities here
(Chronic pain also counts)
I'm on the fence about including characters who aren't disabled in canon but are in popular headcanon (eg Essek from Critical Role), so I think for now, you can submit them, but let me know in the form, and we'll make that decision later depending on the responses I get
No "Oh this character isn't REALLY disabled bc they have a perfect disability aid/don't suffer" arguments pls, different representation means different things to different people, a disability is a disability no matter how sci fi your setting
Submit as many characters as you like but only submit each character once! (I'll use number of responses where relevant to help with seeding the bracket)
EDIT: Please use the google form, no longer counting submissions in my inbox unless you have a real good reason for not using the form
Form is HERE, submissions will be open until the end of Sunday, 5th March (NZDT)
(That's Saturday 4th if you're American)
Characters I'm already pretty confident will get submitted a ton so will get an automatic nomination: Toph (AtLA), Terezi + Tavros (Homestuck), Daredevil (Marvel), Ed Elric (FMA), Kaz Brekker (SoC), Shiro (VLD), Geordi La Forge (TNG)
I can't guarantee I'll include every single character that gets submitted, especially if this goes similar to some other blogs who've gotten like 500 characters all with one vote each? (Alas, I am but a simple human being and have multiple disabilities myself), but I'm willing to do a pretty big bracket/have some qualifying rounds beforehand, so good luck, and I look forward to hearing about a whole bunch of disabled characters I didn't know before!

Hello!
So, a while back, I had the thought to hold an elimination tournament for every playable Genshin Impact character because I like to cause drama!
Turns out this idea was attempted before by @genshincharactertournament but it never really took off. So I am determined to make it work this time!!
This will be your typical elimination-bracket style tournament. The current plan is to have all Round 1 matchups randomized, but I could be swayed to determine them in a different way.
The bracket itself has not yet been made, but it will be soon! In the meantime, may I suggest submitted propaganda for your favorite characters here:
I encourage anyone and everyone to participate in this tournament! Even if you're not a Genshin fan and just like pressing buttons!
That's all for now! More to come soon!
Tagging similar blogs to get myself Out There:

next time pls dont take sides on a competition poll youre running i find it unfair
I'm simply having fun with my own polls and I only root for the polls on my own blog. If you don't like it you can simply not participate or put together your own similar showdown and run it how you like

Would it be possible to add an option for "I first used them in a fan game or pokemon showdown" or something like that? I've barely played any of the official games, but I've played a ton of different fan games and stuff. The "other" option feels like it's referring to spin off games or something, hard to tell. Like, I've never played Sword and Shield, but I've used Rillaboom a fair bit because of Pokémon Showdown, so I think saying I first used it in Gen 8 would be incorrect but also correct? Or with Gyarados, I first used it in a fan game, then years later I used it in the gen 4 remakes, so I'm unsure whether to say "other" or "gen 4" or "gen 8" for when I first used it. Someone's probably asked a similar question before and I just missed the memo, I don't really mean to come in and make demands or anything. Your blog's pretty fun. Survey blogs are always fun to interact with ^^;
First off, thank you kindly! I’m glad you’re having fun with the blog ^^
Second, the ‘other’ option is intended for that exact scenario! It was originally a spin-off/fan game exclusive option, but I changed the wording after some requests to include more things, like events, transfers, cheats, etc.
And I know it’s not fully part of your question, but that read-more underneath each poll includes remakes in the list ^^ BDSP are listed as Gen 8 since all the types, stats, and moves were updated to standard. ^^
