💘Is there any posted fic you want to rework/re-edit/re-write?

hmm, i don't do this much. i do have a collection of drarry fics that i wrote while i was still in undergrad that i eventually took down (so, previously posted??), and have often sort of fantasized about rewriting them (because they were def rough and very representative of how young i was/how new i was to writing fanfic). people still ask for the files a lot, which i feel weird about, so maybe some day i'll make them respectable again?? and beyond that, i'm trying to figure out ways to be kinder to my past work, which is something i've always struggled with. as i've grown as a writer i always wish i could've known the new things i've learned and tried over the years, which is not actually a productive attitude!! like for writing or life, tbh.

hilariously, they really do echo my current drarry revival: one of them is a super long workplace romcom where draco is a healer and harry is a volunteer and they work on the magical bugs and diseases ward. another is a retelling of the part of the odyssey about odysseus and calypso. apparently my writing tastes have not actually changed in 12 years!

🍭 why did you start writing?

again, hmm. i honestly don't know if i have a great answer for this! i guess the easy answer is that i read a ton as a kid and had a truly unhinged imagination that was fed by all the reading, so writing was a way to make sure that stuff didn't just stuff up my head, and that's just how i learned to engage with things that interest me.

2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?

this is a funny question for me bc it depends on the number of chapters + spontaneity? if i start the au on a whim i don't plan for it and it comes back to bite me in the ass because i run out of things to write about / forget about the order of things... when it comes to fics i've wanted to write for A Significant While i make sure to have at least a 1 sentence summary for every single chapter so that i know where i'm going at the very least, and if it's a fanfic + heavily canon compliant i'll probably make a bullet point plan for every chapter so that i know what to reference and how to deal with it

13. what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

idk if this counts as common but if you can Hear the character saying that thing or See the character doing that thing you're probably characterizing them correctly. idk if you get it i can't really explain it but if you write something, reread it, and go "wow i think i was possessed by the character" you Know you're doing p good

(sonny brisko lives in my head rent free... when i write him he literally tells me what to write... i can hear his voice in my head... i'm not going insane i swear)

not necessarily a writing tip but when it comes to fanfiction i find writing incorrect quotes a good way to understand character dynamics! if it looks real but it's not real then that's definitely good

20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?

im not even kidding i've written 46 fics on ao3 so far and like 2/3 of them have characters breaking at least 1 law, ranging from piracy to flat out murder... i have a handful of detective fics (at least one per fandom) so i guess that's kind of why

on a slightly lighter note i have a tendency to wax poetic when i do introspection? i would say i tend to write in a style that matches the character (e.g sentence length, word choices, swearing, etc) but most of the characters i write kinda vibe the same... the pattern for Kinnable Writing Characters = moon vibe characters yk? like sun&moon dynamics like hell yeah. did you just realize your best friend brightens up your life and makes you feel happier than you've ever been in your life

I've seen some of these around and thought I'd have my own go. As others largely have the shippy side covered and I've historically struggled to find good gen fic, I ended up deciding to make this list gen-only. This means that all fic included can be read as platonic regardless of tags.

That's not to say shippers won't get anything out of these though. Think of it as canon-typical levels of ship and that's about what to expect here.

Le repos éclairé by salvage → This is not for people with a short attention span shsjsj It's an absolutely gorgeously written fic, but that makes it incredibly slow-paced and hard to get through if your attention isn't solely on it. I had to set time aside to read this one so I could fully appreciate it but it was so worth it 💕

*we are indelibly fated, you and i (let me drown in the absurdity of you) by oforpheus -> Still not finished by the time I’m adding it but DEAR ME this fic is SOSOSOSO fucking good. Toe curling.

*Emulsion by PurpleJellyFrogs -> Less known fact about me. I am… Particularly into cheating tropes. Especially with skk. This FED me fr 🙏🙏

Twin Primes by run_mello → This is just one of my personal favorites from this author, but their writing style is really beautiful in general and, again, I'd recommend checking out the account all together. Another fic I personally love from them is Musical Chairs

A Tainted Desire by bluemango00406 → The series this fic is from has some really nice fics as well, but I do believe most of them to be out of character 😭 This one is the most accurate characterization-wise, I think. Though the series is also generally worth checking out

*i am a sinner (who’s probably gonna sin again) by persimmonsandcats -> This is honestly such good and beautiful relationship exploration. MWAH MWAH

don’t let bitterness become you by persimmonsandcats → I'd also recommend setting some time aside for this one, not necessarily because it's hard to read but just because this HITS so much harder when you take the time to savor it properly. This has some of the most beautiful figures of speech I’ve ever seen written for these two, but, you really don’t get to enjoy it unless you’re in the right headspace ansjsjs

State of Seduction by vvampyre → Vampire Dazai AU. I remember this being written in a really nice poetic way, and I also don’t think I’ve ever seen another vampire bottom Dazai fic so 🙏🙏

Skk's Great American Roadtrip by ag_sasami → Series. The writing is absolutely wonderful all throughout. Second work has some really good smut (you can just read it as a standalone if you want) 🙏

may all your wounds be mortal by ag_sasami → ATLA AU. Really nice and soft. The series also has another fic, but I haven't read that one yet.

silence strikes like a hurricane by silverinerivers → Haven't read this one in a while so I don’t have a lot of commentary BUT I do remember this having a certain nice atmosphere and some amazing writing!!

the enormity of my desire by ag_sasami → Some really nice and healthy (but also angsty) kink exploration. I haven't read everything in this series but it is on my to read list, and the fics do seem promising, so you should probably check that out.

Black is the Color by rustingroses → Boss Dazai AU. I haven't read this one in a while so I don’t have a lot of commentary? Though I do remember that it has a few things other than the smut going on, and that it's really nicely written, so.

Burning Pile by TheGnomeThief → I'd advise you to tread carefully with this one, it does have the Dead Dove tag and, yeah, I can confirm that it is exactly what the label says. More fucked up than anything I've written so far, that's for sure, but I do still love it and it's really nicely and realistically written!!

Also, I do have some bottom Chuuya fic recs too if anyone is interested?? Haven't read most of these in a long while, but I do remember really liking them back in the day.... + New addition that I read and like recently <3

*Selfish devotion by Asphxdelus -> This is literally the only top Dazai fic in existence that I actually liked nowadays. Wholeheartedly recommend

favorite time of the year: autumn for sure; i’m a scorpio, i love the weather and getting to wear sweaters and break out boots and drink cozy spiced things. i also love winter though; big Christmas person, and it’s my favorite time to live in nyc.

comfort food: i like doing long, slow braises in the dutch oven on the weekends, so anything like that. but also Chinese takeout

favorite drinks: i make a different kind of fruit and/or vegetable juice every day, depending on what’s in season, and i’ll try anything tbh. also this time of year i always have cider in my fridge, plus i’ve started mixing chai concentrate and almond creamer and whizzing it up with a frother and it’s. so good.

do you collect anything: not really; pretty books? though a few years ago my aunt thought I’d started collecting salt and pepper shakers and told other people in my family, who all started buying me cute salt and pepper shakers. I have no idea where she got the idea but I have a bunch of very silly ones now that just like take up room in a cabinet do not recommend collecting these btw

current song on repeat: the trapeze swinger by iron and wine, because of the orpheus fic lol

favorite video game: zelda breath of the wild; generally any zelda game. outside of zelda, i put 500 hours into animal crossing nh which seems insane? also just a ton of hours into stardew valley, which I have less shame about; it’s a wonderful game. oh and hades!! I’ve been itching to do another hades run soon.

favorite fic: i’m bad at identifying all-time faves because my brain tends to hyperfixate on things and i can’t even think of other fics i love. so these are drarry fics that are currently living in my head rent-free! ⬇️

yours is the earth (hold on, hold on) by chickenlovespumpkin; i love horror fics, and fucked up relationship dynamics, and alternating timelines (duh). this also has my absolute favorite proposal ever ever. it’s perfect.

I Do Not Love You by @writandromance; i’ve recced this before but it’s genuinely one of my favorite pieces of writing ever. you will never be able to hear the song “piano man” and not want to die. i even made a playlist of all the music the author suggests for each chapter! i’m a pianist, so this fic and the accompanying music just hits me right where i live.
