Submas Sketchdump Vol. 4 July 2022 Part 2!!

I knew that particular month beat my all time record for productivity multifold but I had forgotten SO MANY PIECES from the original collection!! I think I finally got them all?? More stuff under the cut!!

BREAKMAS!! WIP of the first piece I posted of them, here's the link to the final version! I tried coloring this first but the black & white had ultimately more impact so I went with that!

The top sketch is a direct reference to Cluedo! A spinoff game, "Missingo", starring certain familiar characters trying to figure out what happened to Ingo/trying to prove their innocence in the case! Also WIP sketches for these two Breakmas comic pages!

As you may know I adore butlermas! For the classy and stylish look which appeals to me in general, and coincidentally I had played PLA & got hit by submas train only one week before butler Ingo's banner rolled out! The pure bliss of finally meeting both twins in a game I felt was incomparable!! This moment in the Curious Tea Party event was really entertaining to me! We got to see submas get serious and stand up against this selfish collector thief! Two towering train twinks with commanding voices looming over the unfortunate guy was enough to make him change his mind ahah! They truly are the protectors

1-hour submas challenge prompt "Descend"! This is the actual one hour result before I continued rendering this!

Mmmmm not my first attempt at drawing them hug and definitely not my best OR last. I want to make that moment something very special when I finally go all out on it!!

Comic cover vibing~

The scrapped last page for this silly comic! Sorry the dialogue is all over the place on the first piece, might be hard to read! I wasn't happy with how I presented Elesa, I wasn't familiar enough with her character back then so I thought of her carrying a toy taser to threat her friend even as a joke was too much and I couldn't come up with anything else for it. This held me back from posting the other three pages for another 5 months! In the last panel

I prefer to not mess up the twins too much but my brain is still very curious and conjures some peculiar stuff like this sometimes.. I think I may have broken his arms there looking at the anatomy, ooops! I hope you don't mind the photo quality or the two weird guys in the corner, they escaped containment!

Pokemas Ingo practise!

Another WIP of a piece I posted! I started this piece like this but then later I decided to flip the whole thing.

YET another WIP of something I already posted! No idea why I went and mixed up his suits but I like this sketch! They rarely end up looking this clean haha

Sketch version of the self-defense practise piece! I love getting creative with action stuff! I barely ever think of how difficult they are to draw, I just get so excited and fixated on visualising the scenes in my mind I just keep at it, pull out refs and pose in front of mirrors until it looks good to me! I want to draw more action scenes but besides being challenging to draw my brain comes up with more silly and cute ideas than cool ones unfortunately ahah

One more WIP, here's the link to the final results!! I really like how genuine their expressions look here even if the faces are a little off. I recall spending a long time figuring out this perspective. I thought it would be fun to you to see how all these pieces started and... looking at the sketch above and the stuff before that, you can compare some range of my style!

OHHH looks like some nasty passengers got the best of them!! If I recall correctly there was no fight because they managed to paralyse the two before they could act. Fully awake yet completely helpless... how convenient unfortunate. Thank you so much for checking these out!! Not every sketch is that exciting but I'm always happy to hear your thoughts on these!

I've been itching to do some more standees so enjoy the avalanche of them! Also some fun little submas themed pudding cup toys, these have limited stock so grab them while they're around. Anton, my funny little buddy, will likely be a limited run and may not return for another set of preorders in the future unless he does really well, so if you want my little guy, be sure to pick him up!

Production Updates

Submas lanyards should be finishing up production soon!

The pokefish shaker shipped to me not too long ago and I've sent out solo orders! The extras will go up with the preorders this weekend, here's a photo I took (forgive the blur, ghost are haunting and degrading my phone camera).

Production is finished on the submas minky buttons and should be shipping out to me soon, here's a look at the rosy little guys!

And lastly, I've got the Ruina stickerbook in production for a 2nd test prototype! Figured out a bit ago where adjustments were needed + adding a little something to the design. Really looking forward to this one! :D

It was clear as day to Arthur that his kids were up to something, but when aren't they? He wants to laugh about it, as he finds the 'trouble' they usually get themselves in is often humorous.

But this time feels different, something feels serious, as if they are scared of his reaction. He can't imagine why, though he knows sometimes they get into their own heads a lot, so he will wait until they come to him.

Days turned to weeks and weeks to months, the more time passed the more worried he grew. The man replays everything he's ever done, trying to figure out if he did something to upset them or show he isn't to be trusted, but nothing comes up, even if he did he always made sure to talk to them about it and apologize.

So what happened?

The day finally came as his eldest came into the living room where he was, encouraged by her brother who stood peeking behind a wall for emotional support.

"Hey dad, can I tell you something?"

Arthur instantly sits up and pauses his show, giving her his undivided attention.

"Of course. What is it?" He pats the spot next to him on the sofa, gesturing her to sit next to him, which she does though hesitatly.

"Take your time, if you don't feel ready I understand."

He offers a crooked smile, trying to be patient, though is shocked when she starts tearing. He's quick to place a hand on her back rubbing soothing circles.

"Sweetheart, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

That seems to only make it worse but he blinks at what comes next.

"I feel fake, I feel like I've been putting on a mask and silly title just to please everyone! I can't keep living like this, I just want to be your son..."

His eyes widen trying to wrap his head around this, he maybe in his mid 30's but he's heard about these things, even if he doesn't fully understand it himself.

"I love you no matter what, you're my little train conductor no matter how old you get. I made a vow the moment I held you and Emmet that I would love and support you in any way I could, no matter what.' He brushes some of his son's silver hair out of his face.

"You're still my baby boy."

His son lets out a loud sob, hugging him tightly and burying his face into his father's chest. Arthur just hums, wrapping his arms around his boy, giving him a firm hug.

Arthur lets him cry for as long as he needs, clearly needing this more than anything. He looks over to Emmet and gestures him to get a thing of water, which the youngest quickly does.

It takes sometime for his eldest to finally settle down, but when he does, Arthur has to ask him.

"So, is there anything I can do to help?"

"Well....I was actually going to ask if you could uh...pick my new name?" The young boy looked so hopeful "I remember you telling us you had a lot of name picked out before we were born."

Arthur feels himself tearing up, he tries to fight back the sting of tears in his eyes but he easily give him a smile, leaving both twins shocked at seeing their father give a full smile for once, even if it's shaky.

"Ingo, it was one of the names me and your mother adored the most."

"Ingo..?" Those alabaster eyes look back at him with renewed tears.

"Do you like it? If not I can find the list in the photo album."

"No! It's....it's perfect."

Emmet hands his brother a thing of water, letting his brother drink, but he chuckles a bit.

"Now we are the ultimate duo!"

Arthur watches them laugh and playfully bicker. He will look more information up later tonight, but right now he just wants to enjoy this moment with his sons.

First, how’d you get into the Submas fandom? How long have you been in it for? And who’s your favorite twin? Unless… it’s BOTH!

I hope you’ll have lots of fun here. We’ve got a ton of cool peeps making cool Submas stuff! It’s incredible, honestly. Our community is so talented, and it’s fun to see everyone contribute something different! Arts, fanfics, EVEN FANMADE MERCHANDISE (the insane amount of Submas pins and charms that I have…)!

Hiiii! Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I'm definitely excited to start posting art (and possibly fics) here real soon and get to know other Submas fans better!

As for how I discovered Submas- it's quite an odd story. Roughly 7 years ago my friend showed me a screenshot of N and Emmet, with Emmet running away with N's toy trains. I'll post the picture here in a bit. But I thought it was hilarious and saved it to my own phone. I was a little curious about who Emmet was (especially since it was clear he was associated with trains, which I've loved all my life) but I never really gave it much thought after that. Fast forward to about a day after Legends Arceus released, I meet Ingo. But I didn't know he was Ingo- I thought he was Emmet. I kinda forgot about Emmet over the years so when I saw Ingo I was like "Oh, silly train guy is here. What's his name again? Emmet?" But as the minutes passed I started remembering what Emmet looked like, with the white uniform and smile. And this man looked nothing like him but also exactly like him. I thought maybe I was imagining things, until Ingo introduced himself, and I started to connect the dots: Emmet has a twin.

So I do more research and find out they're known as the Subway Bosses, from Pokemon Black and White (my favorite Pokemon games) and that they're Battle Facility leaders. I start looking into them more, finding Battle Subway fanart and reading fics, and as I played Legends Arceus more I became super attached to Ingo. And it wasn't long before I got attached to Emmet too! I started to really fall down the Submas rabbit hole in late February 2022- February 22nd to be exact, as that was my first Multi Battle with Ingo and Emmet. (I got destroyed lol)

Oh yeah here's the photo I mentioned earlier:

I kinda laugh at the thought that this photo introduced a future favorite character, and that it had such a big effect 7 years later.

As for which twin I like more... It's both! There's something to love in both Ingo and Emmet, and I'll probably make a ramble post in the future about everything I love about them!

(Also I completely relate to the collection of Submas merch, my Battle Subway sticker book arrived today lol)

I'm definitely looking forward to posting some art and rambles, and getting to meet others who are in the Submas community!

Eldritch Submas [Gen] Drabble

(CW: Mem manipulation, Eldritch Monster AU, General; Non-romantic, slightly spook)

More of a spooky thing than anything else. Elesa’s just organizing her photo albums and deleting some old ones-

Right?

Just a weird drabble idea I had, hope you all like it. It’s not romantic or anything, just the monster bois getting up to non-darling related antics.

Elesa blinked slowly as she stared at her computer screen- a sharp electrical shock had brought her back from her day dream-

What had she been doing again?

She couldn’t remember.

Something about... clearing old photos on her phone-

But the phone photos were-

always backed up onto her old internet drive.

The one she could never remember how to get into. But the drive didn’t matter, the archive must’ve had hundreds if not thousands of photos in it. Unlimited space!

So then why-

Had she been trying to get onto it?

She flipped through her phone- Her photo record was... practically untouched.

Why did she think she was clearing out old photos then?

She swiveled around at her desk- Her little Emolga was on it’s bed, but not resting.

Watching her.

Worriedly. The electricity from it’s cheeks was flaring, sparking out gently. Had Emolga shocked her?

“Emolga?” Elesa asked, brushing back her bangs. Why did she feel like she had a headache? The little electric squirrel chirped back at her, running into her lap and hugging her tightly.

She looked back at her phone.

The photo record was practically untouched, she could remember taking all these photos- and no more.

Practically untouched.

Practically.

But not actually.

Elesa blinked again. Slower. And turned back to her computer. Something was missing.

She opened her drawer where she kept a record of some of her passwords.

And logged in to the online storage system.

No changes- Except a photo last night.

Last night? Why had she taken a photo last night- Oh right, she’d been out at one of the clubs with Skyla-

But the missing photo was not in a club.

It was on the street.

A photo of a bleary figure in white, grabbing something-

But whatever it was hadn’t been caught by the camera.

“Why was Emmet out so late at night?” Elesa wondered aloud. And why- Why had Elesa taken a photo of him? He was probably patrolling some of the access gates to get into the Subway- Idiot hooligans and gangsters were always trying to break in.

Elesa tried to think back- And her headache only got worse.

“Hey, Emmet...”

“Oh, Miss Elesa! What might I do for you today?”

“I just wanted to ask you a question- This might sound strange, but...”

“Hmm? You’re always welcome to tell me and brother anything at all, you know. Miss Elesa is the respected Gym Leader of Nimbasa City! We’re more than happy to help you with anything that’s bothering you.” His smile was as bright and cheery as ever.

Elesa smiled back at Emmet’s reassurances. Maybe it was just something weird-She was being silly. That was it. Everything had to be fine.

“Well, I was just wondering- I saw you last night while I was out with my friends, and- well, what was that... thing you were fiddling with?”

Emmet cocked his head, his smile not leaving his face- his eyes unblinking.

“What thing? I think Miss Elesa might be tired- I was not out last night.”

“Yes you were, I took a photo ‘cause it looked so weird! That- that thing-”

“No you didn’t.”

“Wh-What? Yes, I did- It’s right here-”

“You’re going to delete that.”

Elesa stopped, her eyes vacantly staring into the silver ones before her- Such a beautiful light, emanating from deep within them...

Yes, that sounded right. Slowly, she took out her phone and deleted the photo.

“You don’t happen to have back ups, do you?”‘

“I do.”

“Then you’ll go delete those. Miss Elesa?”

“Of course.” She replied vacantly.

Emmet’s smile grew wider. “And this never happened, of course. Neither was I out last night- You never saw me. You went home after hanging out with your friends and nothing else happened. Of course.”

Elesa collapsed, her head reeling.

What- was that, she recalled?

Emmet- Emmet had ordered her?

The memory of the light she saw- the light in the back of his eyes, seared itself in her brain.

It must have been Chandelure- A Zoroark? Must’ve been a Zoroark- That was it, there was a Zoroark running around Gear Station pretending to be Emmet- That had to be it, she rationalized.

But that light- And Zoroarks could be intelligent, yes- But what was it doing in this photo then?

Alarms were ringing in her head. Her head was spinning again-

The photo needed to be deleted.

She opened her chat with Skyla.

[Don’t let anyone delete this- store it somewhere you can’t delete it.] And sent the photo to her.

Skyla responded. [?]

[Just do it. Something is wrong at Gear Station.]

[Is that Emmet in the picture...?] [Weird. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it safe! I got it saved already. You need assistance?]

[Not-sure]

And Elesa screwed her eyes shut as the headache became even worse- She deleted the conversation.

And the photo also disappeared from her storage.

Her Emolga chirped loudly as she fell back again- clutching her forehead in agony- And the little pokemon delivered another tiny electric shock to her trainer.

Elesa’s eyes jolted open again, blinking as she looked over at her computer screen. Her Emolga nuzzled itself against her.

What had she been doing again?

“I’m sorry, you did what?” Ingo asked his brother when Emmet had returned to the office.

“I thought it would be alright to let her deal with it! I was tired, brotherr- I wanted to spend more time with darling, not dealing with someone who just happened to be poking their nose in business that doesn’t concern them!”

Ingo rubbed the bridge of his eyes tiredly. Oh, Emmet- Kudari. He could be so stupid sometimes.

“Except- And we have already established this, you suck at manipulating people’s memories, Kudari. Who’s the expert on erasing stuff again?”

“But brotherrr-”

“And what do you intend to do if she recalls anything?”

“You can fix it, then!”

Ingo sighed, Why would he expect any different of an answer from his little brother, so happy-go-lucky and carefree?

“If this causes one single problem for us-” He growled back at his brother, pondering a suitable punishment-

“I’m not letting you watch over darling for a week.”

Emmet squeaked in horror- How could his dear brother be so cruel!

Well, he was certain Elesa wouldn’t be able to break out of the commands he had instilled in her- By this time now she’d have deleted everything, forgotten everything, and no one would know anything! Everything would be normal.

Right?

Introducing your station master & Magma event host!

Since there's already a lot of passengers visiting this station and I haven't spared much time to get to know my fellow submas fans over Tumbrl yet, an introduction would be in place!

I'm Jun, nice to meet you! *offers a hand for for a shake* I am a devoted submas artist & a monthly Magma event host! I go by ChooChooBoss everywhere (Twitter/Bsky/Twitch/Ko-Fi)!

This will be a long post! I will write a short intro as well which you can just skim through but here is a more in depth view how I got into submas, my other interests and life in general, in case you'd wish to know more about your conductor on this silly train!

How did I get into submas in the first place?

PLA. I met this certain mysterious & cool fellow time traveler and got curious! After the cave scene I went to read his Wiki, found out about Emmet, and... yeah. The emotional impact blasted me right out of a miserable cycle I was going through back then and set my soul on fire!! A month later I set up my first art account on Twitter, and the rest is history. They've become my greatest source of strength and inspiration and I enjoy drawing them every single day!

I love both twins very much! I tend to vibe with Ingo a little more than Emmet, but I draw Emmet more. People say I remind of butler Ingo the most, hehe. I certainly don't mind because I'm a big fan of butlermas!! In fact I got into submas & started playing Pokémon Masters EX in April 2022, a week before butler Ingo banner rolled in, so they truly got a special place in my heart ahah! (pssst draw more butlermas for me pls pls pls-)

However I don't draw warden Ingo as much as I would like to. I still get pretty emotional over his fate ahah, I can't draw him without a single tear! This sweet & kind man leading a good life and being an inspiration to others has been torn from literally everything he had for seemingly no reason apart from his name, clothes and the muscle memory and even those are barely intact. It seems like a miracle he's still standing and breathing after put through everything judging by the wear and tear on his uniform and body. Despite all that he carries a positive attitude, assists everyone in need, and does his best to help people and pokémon understand each other, unconditionally... Oh, my face is wet again...

My other interests besides submas?

Monster Hunter! Zelda! Genshin Impact! Super Mario! Trine! Crash Team Racing! And many many more! My favourite genres are platformers, kart racers, and action games, with a side of rhythm games. I'm a big fan of co-op games! I also watch my sis play JRPGs!

Monster Hunter is the dearest to me out of all. I've been hunting for well over a decade starting from MHFU. The games have charmed me with their incredibly satisfying combat system, world building, creature design, great attention to detail, character customisation and the games being nearly fully co-op!!

Other things I do:

Pokémon is practically the only turn-based game I enjoy, mainly because of the characters and collection aspect. However!! I adore Pokémon Colosseum (the first pkmn game I ever played!) and it's double battle focus, so The Indigo Disc has been a delight after the long starvation for double battles, coming up with different combinations makes the battles much more fun to me!!... I sound like Emmet here do I ahahah! We also share the fact we are both left-handed!

Shuffle dancing, daily pull-ups, and expanding my ever growing VGM collection! I also enjoy traveling and taking photos to keep as a diary! I've played piano in a music school for 9 years, and I can also play kalimba. I've done casual boxing, gymnastics, horse riding and medieval swordfighting. I used to read comics/manga and watch movies and anime but nowadays I barely do that, I just rather use that time for drawing instead of just sitting and watching, unless I have company!

I share the apartment with my anxious brother and our two sweet female cats, Laku (11, stubborn and cuddly) and Kalevi (21, demanding and full of love) in a city center. My parents are both entrepreneurs and run a farm in the countryside & I have 4 siblings with me as the middle kid!

Where can you meet me?

I am a game artist by profession, with 4 yrs of studies and roughly 7 years of EXP in the field doing game art, UI design, character/prop design, in mobile games as well as PC titles, 2D and 3D. At the moment I am looking for work; I keep up the motivation and learn new skills by running my art accounts while looking for new opportunities.

I hail from the land of darkness, snow, salmiakki, metalheads and renownly reserved people, Finland! (UTC+2)

Despite having my roots here I am pretty much the opposite of a typical Finn in almost every sense ahah! I'm a small guy who's not afraid talking to strangers and laughs a lot. And I dislike coffee for the contrary, it's very popular amongst finns.

With the inspiration from submas I've finally stepped into the world of cosplay so you can usually meet this small and excitable Ingo in the biggest local conventions, Desucon and Tracon! Come say hi!

About my social battery:

I'm both social and socially anxious ahah! I love making new friends and talking to all sorts of people and writing comments, and gathering together with my mutuals to do cool stuff together! However my social battery is very small... I often struggle with my AD(H)D and anxiety issues, so my replies can be extremely slow. I'm easily overwhelmed when life gets busy and I deal with it by withdrawing to minimise the the stimuli and then sorting my stuff out one by one. This is a frustrating shortcoming, but I'm working hard to find a balance I can maintain without getting exhausted. Please be patient with me! If you don't hear from me in a while, please don't take it personally! In fact, it makes me really happy if you contact me, for any purpose!

Which pronouns do I go with?

I go by they/them! I am also aroace, so if I appear to show any sort of romantic interest, it's definitely not that. I love meeting new people and am quite interested in people in general so I'm excited to get to know you better, but the thing is... I have been confusing people on several occassions for saying things that could be taken as flirting. I am terribly sorry for that, that's just the way I show how I care!

I don't really identify myself by any specific gender either, but rather by my roles or interests (Magma host, submas fan, game artist etc.). Submas encouraged me to enjoy dressing formally even if I'm just sitting at home, because I love formal clothing in general and wearing them makes me feel confident and stand taller! I usually wear collar shirts and black or white slacks.

More about my AD(H)D:

I don't have an official diagnosis but deal with the same problems as AD(H)D people do; poor work memory, dissociation, hyperfocus (drawing and people), sleep deprivation, impulsiveness (juggling too many things and going with the wind), getting sensory/information overloads, and feeling like I don't fit in. I figured it out after I finished school & lost my job for that I am unable to handle big tasks without anyone giving me directions. It has taken a while but I've figured out things that help me manage my daily life as well as have a medication that mainly boosts my capability to get things started which is another great struggle ahah.

How do I manage to keep myself on track?

I use a Pomodoro timer to keep up a good flow and remember to take breaks! This is what I use the most:

I should set it up on my tablet as well. I think it's really cool to see how many hours I have actually put into drawing! Last year I clocked in well over 3k hours, ahaha!

How to catch me?

Right now I have great difficulty managing replies, but usually you can reach me by DMs! I check Discord and Twitter the most often! However I must ask you to respect my current DNI status. It means I am really overwhelmed so I wish nobody comes asking for my attention until it has been lifted, unless it's really necessary. I really love talking to you all but I also have to accept and deal with my own limits strictly like this or it won't work out.

What am I working on at the moment?

Besides the holiday set I have several short comics under works as well as one big comic (100+ pages!). That one is my personal greatest goal! I started working on it in June 2022 and I have currently 40+ pages sketched and 60+ thumbnailed.

I was afraid of starting any comic projects before submas, but the sheer excitement over them carried me over that personal wall ahah!

The story's beginning and end are looking good and somewhat functional but there's still a lot to work to do and holes to fill in the middle before I dare to start fleshing out the pages. I have little experience in writing or comic making so I hope you forgive if some things don't make sense or the dialogue is a little on the nose so to say ahah!

The story will be packed with action with the overall tone being on the darker side, but it sure won't be lacking in humor! The project's main goal is to make it a celebration of all things submas & to prove to myself I can handle a big scale project despite my shortcomings!

This train has reached the terminal!
