While that might not be real propaganda or whatever it should have weigh of how hot he is.

On the WTNV finale:

Look, i like Brinknor. They helped me fall back in love with Night Vale when i was feeling particularly uninspired. It's hard to put it into words; i have adhd & i struggle to remember big intricate plots unless something reoccurring has really grabbed hold of my attention, and before Brinknor, i was struggling to sink my teeth into anything attention-holding, so to speak. I guess i was becoming less enthusiastic in Night Vale's storyline as time went on, even though i couldn't really work out why. I just couldn't stop tuning out. But, with Brinknor, there came a bunch of shiny new plotpoints- at a faster pace. The show could actually hold my focus properly, and my wtnv fixation was suddenly up & running again.

All this is to say that i know it's just my impatience talking when i say that i wish that the loose ends of those new, interesting plotpoints had been tied up a little more by episode 250. I adore the way they write about Cecil's childhood and his family, and i want Kevin & The Boy's arc to be given the same amount of love, and attention, and time that the Palmer siblings' arc got. The same goes for Tamika. And Carlos. And Lauren, actually. Yes, i know she was a central figure in the last 2 episodes, and i loved that because she's one of my favourite characters. I fucking adore eldritch Mother Lauren. But still, it was all too vague to really learn anything new about her or the desert otherworld. And, above all else, i can't help but think of how wonderful it would've been if Charles and Donovan were included in the finale- especially Donovan.

When Kevin first came back in 2023, one of my silly little hcs as to why he was apparently in the Smiling God's bad books (and why he didn't mention Charles or Donovan) was that because Charles & Donovan aren't from Desert Bluffs they haven't devoted themselves to the Smiling God like the rest of the townsfolk. They wouldn't "smile" properly. One of my darker ideas at the time was the possibility of Kevin having to choose between making them part of his faith, i.e., making them "smile" like the rest of Desert Bluffs (which i doubt he'd go through with after his mudstone abyss arc), or having Charles & Donovan leave town (which i doubt they'd go through with), or, doing neither & keeping quiet about his life with them to avoid drawing attention. If he chose the latter and then got found out, it would make sense that he'd stop being the Smiling God's favourite. Obviously, i never thought any of that was correct- i was just having fun- and i was excited to find out the real story further down the line.

But that didn't happen, and we still don't really have many answers. Everything to do with Kevin, and Lauren, and The Boy got wrapped up in about 10 minutes flat. We've already had an emotional Fatherhood themed episode with Cecil & Abby; we didn't need another one just for the sake of it.

With the context of what we already know about Kevin's father, the ending of episode 250 was just uncomfortable. Sure, Kevin's talked about his father positively before, but that's always been in contrast with the actual content of his memories. It's always been made clear that the script/the writers disagree with Kevin's sunny outlook, and therefore the listeners should too. Those moments are there to demonstrate just how fucked up Kevin really is, and that his positivity is just a coping mechanism. But this time Cecil spoke for him, so we didn't get Kevin's usual sing-song rambling. It was calm, and collected, and matter-of-factly. And this time there were no sugar-coated descriptions of abuse, only genuine praise. We were actually supposed to agree with him this time, and it made the whole speech (and ending) sound hollow and forced.

I really didn't like this episode. It felt rushed. It tried to cover far too much far too quickly, and it failed. But, despite all that, i am hoping that future episodes will bring some sort of clarity about what happened. And hopefully some closure about Kevin and his family, too. I want loose ends to get tied up properly and i believe that maybe, with time, the important ones will be. Slow burning subplots are kinda quintessential to Night Vale's writing at this point anyway. Brinknor definitely missed the mark with this one, but they're still incredibly talented writers and i'm not ready to give up on them like some of the other fans on here.

Besides, i think that some of Night Vale's worst episodes are still incredible pieces of writing in their own right. The bad episodes are only bad in comparison to the dozens upon dozens of absolutely phenomenal episodes that make up the rest of a show that is, for the most part, a joy to listen to. So, here's to some hopefully better episodes in the future, i guess.

Silly ideas that popped up:

The most absurd form Cecil could take for a sexyman poll is the Night Vale eye logo. So of course I went for it.

Reigen was fine in the end, if a bit traumatized. Cecil immediately lost interest in him when the results came in.

You know Cecil’s immediately handing that first prize to Carlos because he knows who the truest sexyman is. Which is why he even cares and is bothering to eye laser people.

No, I know Cecil never died. That was just the funniest thing Emmet could say in that moment.

Emmet went on a date with Cecil once. It went sideways when Cecil started saying weird things about spiders and they never tried again. Was Cecil eye-shaped or human-shaped? Emmet thinks it funnier to keep people guessing.

After beating Bruno twice, Ingo felt bad and gave Bruno a lifetime pass for the subway. As long as all his rats are in an appropriate carrying cage. They’re now friends and talk regularly.

Gemma walked Greta to Finchwick Park. She tried to bring the toddler to the park a few hours every week. The heavily pregnant Eva needed the break. Eva was quickly becoming Gemma's closest friend in Henford. She and her family had done so much for Gemma and Markus. Gemma wanted to return the favor where she could.

Cecil's crush on Gemma had dissipated. It was hard to idolize someone buying loo rolls next to you in the grocery store. Plus, he'd seen her come face-to-face with Agnes Crumplebottom. Agnes was the scariest woman Cecil knew. Everyone was either frightened of or respected her. The only exception seemed to be Mak's sister, Roni. Roni was the second scariest woman Cecil knew. Roni would stare Agnes down when Agnes went on a tear.

Last week, Agnes spoke sharply to Greta, causing the tot to burst into tears. Gemma had not flinched or backed down. Instead, Gemma stared Agnes straight in the eye and said something. Cecil wasn't close enough to hear it, but Agnes obviously did. Agnes pursed her lips and stalked off as Gemma comforted Greta. Another time, Cecil had seen Markus say something to Gemma, causing Gemma to whirl around with fiery eyes. Markus just laughed and kissed her. The guy was fucking psycho, it seemed. Cecil was a little nervous around both of them.

Jude watched his children play together peacefully, for once. Sybil and Betty were thick as thieves and typically complained when Giles intruded into their play. Jude noticed Cecil near Gemma and quietly chuckled at the wary look on Cecil's face. Cecil, the most socially awkward man in town, had set a new record for getting over one of his harmless crushes. Luckily, Cecil's wife, Morwenna, found Cecil's extreme awkwardness and silly micro-crushes endearing. Besides, Jude suspected Cecil would drop into a dead faint if anyone other than Morwenna flirted with him.

Jude tore his gaze away from Gemma. She frustrated him. Starting with the moment he caught Gemma in the paddock, he felt connected to and protective of her. Jude didn't have a logical reason why. It was not his place to have these feelings. It was most likely due to Gemma being pregnant and almost falling due to his animals and children. What else could it be?

this is by no means an exhaustive list but definitely the moments i think of most often ^_^

i loooveee. this part. they’re rlly fun to look at in general in this arc but this bit in particular has always stood out to me? their eye shadow for sure has glitter in it (detail i decided on when i was like 13 that i still stand by). it’s just silly. they’re irritated.

and then i really love all the live shows. i think that’s like,, Peak Unfiltered Sam. this goes for every other character as well but i really like hearing from them directly as opposed to through cecil. also their VA is just fucking awesome. LOVE her. my favoriteeee live show with them rn is the haunting of night vale? but it changes occasionally.

in that same vein, their bit in episode 88! i see people say often that wtnv drops off in year four, but actually this episode is when it gets good. the song choice. they have a caffeine headache and they don’t even drink caffeine. EYE think that they just like to drink tea and don’t realize that it has caffeine in it. they’re pretty upset about it though.

also rlly rlly love this part from 228! it makes me sad that this is one of the last time they’re mentioned in this arc because i find the VERY sudden malice between them and janet really fascinating? and this is like a really big turning point. REALLY wish they were even hinted at in 230. miss them.

and i know a lot of people don’t like the frank chen arc? but EYE do. they have a lot of rlly great moments in that one. like they literally necromance someone. come on.

probably missed some things and will be annoyed about it later but yeah ^_^ live laugh love sheriff sam.

Little girls, great wizards

I really like Eiko in FF9. Some people find her annoying, and it's true that, just as Quina, she's used to write some very easy humor. Queena is about food jokes, and Eiko is about sassy little girl jokes. But if you're open to this kind of humor, she's just fine. I don't laugh to tears at those jokes, but it makes me smile. I like Eiko's over-the-top design, with cat-ear-like ribbon + purple hair + unicorn horn + cupid wings + little fairy flute as a weapon + little hopping victory dance + living with moogles. I like her funny crush on Zidane, her story with Mog, her bond with Garnet.

But I also like a lot that the game scenario brought back this silly idea of adding kids that are actually sometimes more competent than adults in the heroes team that was also a thing in FF4. First, Eiko is like Rydia, the last surviving caller knowing the traditions of her people, she's small and harmless child who can summon gods to make the earth shake if you threaten her !

She doesn't cry ! Crying is for babies !

She's like Polom, lecturing and picking on the little black mage (poor Vivi ... hu, it's deserved in Palom's case ...).

She boasts about her talents, just like Palom, when she opens a magic barrier to grant access to a sacred place (Mount Ordeals/ Iifia Tree). Fun thing, Rydia too is needed to open the gate of Mount Hobs, and this is Luca's necklace that is needed to open the sealed cave. Children seem to be the key to be allowed to go in forbidden sacred places …

And the hero entrusts his girlfriend to her, when Garnet looses her voice. That makes me think of this moment in FF4 when Cecil asks Rydia to take care of Rosa for the battle in Fabul, that's some goofy moment … Why ? She's a little girl ! True, Rydia and Eiko are very good wizards. But, is it a way to give a small task to a very energetic little girl to make her focus on something in a stressful time ? Is it because Rosa and Garnet are very emotional character who tend to be a bit reckless and need someone with good common sense to watch over them ? Maybe a bit of everything, but the child looking over the adult is a funny reversal of values. It goes a little further with Eiko who has to take care of big old Steiner, thought.

I really like the fact that the theme of the seven-years-old little girl being so important in the team is reused and expanded in FF9. In the end, Rydia and Eiko find parents to have maybe something looking like a regular childhood … Even if in Rydia's case, it's about living with Eons. And they become somehow both princesses ! Happy ending !

Haha, no! This one is a very G-rated cute little one shot! The prompt is from a follower milestone ages ago, I think it was from linksthoughtbrambles and said, "Wait, there's no Chuchu jelly?"

It's a story set in the AoC universe about the birthday of Link and Zelda's kid. King Rhoam comes to gift the little princess a giant slide that is much too steep to use and the Champions bring silly gifts, too.

Little Zelda only cares about playing a tossing game with Terrako, however, that involves Chuchu jelly. I started the story when I was hit with writer's block and still haven't figured out the ending. That's why it's still a wip.

Mama!” Her daughter protested. “Hair messy! Hair Papa ‘gain!” “You want me to draw your hair back into a ponytail like Papa has?” Zelda asked. The little princess Zelda, or Zel, how they called her to differ from her mother, nodded and raised her hands to twiddle with the strands she could reach. Zelda took the strands out of her hands and wrapped one of Link’s blue hair ties around them. Outside the throne room, she heard the rummaging and ruckus of the party preparation, but for now they had a moment of silence left. The always-present guards stood still and bored, melting so much into the walls that they nearly disappeared from her mind. When she had finished her work, little Zel wiggled her head and beamed at her. Then, she pointed at Terrako bouncing around the throne. “‘rako no hair.” Zelda chuckled. “No. Terrako has no hair.” “‘rako play?” Little Zel asked, half to Zelda, half to the small guardian. only 4 eps to go of season 9!! and you know what? i griped about them at the time but i'm actually really enjoying the plot-lite crossover episodes in the middle of the season. when i first watched them i was frustrated that with less than 10 eps left to go that we'd have silly filler eps with premises like "a day in cecile's life as a metahuman defence attorney/single mom", "barry's birthday party gets gatecrashed by a metahuman goo monster and the ghost of oliver queen", and, "we turned the star labs mould inspector into a garden gnome", but in retrospect those eps are all FAR more enjoyable to watch than anything from the prior 2 seasons and i actually appreciate that we got these sweet and silly moments with the characters and got to have fun at the end instead of just focusing solely on mega high stakes. like maybe that was actually a good call. i gotta hand it to em

and you know what? shoutout to danielle panabaker's comic timing because once i got over khione existing and all, her line delivery in that role, particularly for the comedy lines, is actually impeccable. caitlin and frost weren't really funny characters so it's nice to see that side of her and she is consistently getting laughs out of me and it's just nice

Queer history of Final Fantasy

I am replaying all the old final fantasies(mostly psp psone releases), first time with english localization and not the original jp.

Now i get it.

It all make sense now.

I couldn't understand the wave of "why shove the gays in our face" backlash of 16(even though, the non homophobic felt it was lacking since they didn't want to 'push it in yall face'). Like apperantly moat of the implication or straight up fruity moments in the old game was completely removed, or changed to the point of it being a 'silly thing'.

So lets clarify -

*Cecil(iv), your homeboy- an Non-binary (language is the best indication, but yeah i think it was a decision made for both female and male players to be able to relate to them, but yeah funny outcome non the less)

*Bartz(v)- outright bisexual, they didnt even hide it- next person on this list gonna make it make sense.

*faris(v)- an ftm transgender( at least in the original version, i know in some new iterations they scrapped the whole concept, but left it in in others?)- mainly speak about himself with (ore/boku- which is conventionally usally by male speakers), after finding out soem of the cast either use a female pronounce on him, but bartz constantly either avoid it or use male pronounce(or the nonbinary version which is usually reffered to kidz) but yeah, bartz was crushing on faris where he thought he was a cis male and unlike the other guy didnt shy away.

Lets jump a bit to 8-

Irvine(viii)- even though considered very handsome to the point he could get with any girl hed want, was even flirted with by selphie i think i need to remember, but he usually brush it off.

If anything he is either asexual, or gay(its very subtle, but its what called queer coding, and well see that allot from now on cause japan caught up to westerns norm on media)

Quina Quen (ix)- literally, a nonbinary- but i think they kept it in eng as well cause they are not human, but like black mages they have no sex, but unlike black mages they are 'genderless' and dont care for human norms.

Kuja(ix)- either gay/intersex/both.

Like sephiroth, but unlike sephiroth he also have effeminate mannerisms, and until it was revealed by text it wasnt so obvious.sephiroth in jp have a confusing language because he himself is possed by jenova, so evem though i love this headcanon, sephiroth isnt trans actually.

Auron(x)- ahh yes, your favourite broody guy and probably where im gonna get tons of hate.

Auron is very subtle, but once you notice it its hard to deny.

I think Auron is gay, unlike jecht or braska- he did not have kids, denied arranged marriage, and followed jecht to dream zanarken just to save jecht only son- it was pretty obvious that auron loved jecht. He also loved braska but not as much, and it shows- that for auron it was more than friendship. You can see it with his attitude towards yuna vs tidus- with yuna he is nicer, politer. Liem you act when you babysit your friends /cousins child.

But to tidus, he is a full father figure.In their journey together they grow, and i think if he wasnt the boy of the man he loved he wouldn't treat tidus as his own. With all the scoldinngs in mind.

Paine(X-2)- qlmost forgot her, but yeah she's pretty gay for riku

I dont remember much though because if the mission structure of the game.

Larsa(xii) - ohh i see you boy, i see u. He is sus as hell. He is a kid so its pretty innocent(and relatable to us queer kidz)

Its pretty obvios that he is crushing on basch, innocently though. I know some ppl who shipped him with penelo, but canonically by spinoffs at least she and vann are an item.

Also they made sure it was obvious cause japan have this thing that a young character is crushing on a teacher,mentor , older characters in general(aka cc sakura- her friend crushing on a teacher, syaoran & sakura crushing on yukito, also happens in tons of pop culture media at that time, so im not surprised, but im happy this time its one sided, THANK GOD)

But yeah if you reached the ending its pretty obvious.

Fang & vanille(xiii)- the first lesbians couple! Terra(VI) was supposed to be the first but they were afraid it will make her less marketable so they scrapped her gf. They made them clear, but at the same time they tried to make sure pple wont be fetishizing them(they tried, at least).

I want to explain their story more but i think ill mess it up since i tend to mix up 13's lacie, falcie and all that jazz.

So ill just say that basically there are 2 world in 13, pulse and cacoon. Pulse is basically earth and cacoon is the moon. There is a god for each world called a falcie.

Few of them but ine for each major ones. Our main gand from cacoon, branded by a falcie to be slaves(lacie) vanille and fang are from pulse, and slaves of pulse lacie, so basically they are with the task of creating Ragnarok which is like the end of time and but limw they dont know cause the gods in this game is like 'yeah imma give you a mission but wont tell you beside weird non undersandable feaver dream and you need to figure out and fast or youll become this universe version of zombie, and if you do complete it you become a ceystal living forever but like, sleeping beauty style. So lose lose situation.

The focus of them both is different from the gang, caus the falcie of cacoon is evil so he gove them focus destroying cocoon while if fang& vannile mannaged to ruin that falcie and bring ragnarok theyll become a crystal, and they used it to save coccon from falling and crushing killing all the people in it, basically became a pillar in eternal sleep when they hheld each other.

But they are saved in later game only to... Lightning return which we wont talk about cause i hate timers.

I love the story of xiii, big part of it is vanille & fang, i havent played in english yet, but i will say, their story is one of the more meaningful on this list, very well developed and i will do it disservice if id try to explain it in few sentences - so do yourself a favour and play or watch the playthrough.

Ignis& gladio(xv)- here is when localization ruimed it. I know cause i palyed on jp dub with eng sub and heard the differences live- first of all gladio and ignis are completely different in jp, as individuals and as a pair- they were supposed to be the first dion& terrence moment, but it got scrapped and they went the vannile& fang route, only that bec they are men, the localization team missed the mark.

Gladio got pissed at noctis in the train because of ignis.

In jp its clear their bond is beyond friends, and not mention the fact that their AI is always stuck together, and that gladio isnt a womenizer in jp at all, and there is no fiancee/girlfriend.

In jp he said suggested there is someone he wants to be with but bec of the state of the world and them both being constantly in the battlefront he couldnt ask.

(and ignis clear his throat when everyone is like oh great, very subtle but it was leading to that)

Every stop of the train or erea post blindness gladio was with ignis not leaving him .

Also tabata san also said that they are more than friends. So there's that too.

But its no secret 15 localization is tereible, the massacared prompto, he is so cringy in english, in jp yeah he is funny but like he says more stuff then random pop colture references, he breaks the 4th wall occasionally but not on the same level of the localization. Also, jp noctis is a little shit because he can and will, in localization he is more relatable while ignos and gladio are kimda mean. In jp its the other way around and up until chap 13 (when he is alone) noctis is a bratt. He has some moments when he is nicer, but when struggle shows he is a bratt about it- and its done purposely since he is a spoiled pronce who never done anything alone in his life.

Thats why in chap 13 he has a change of heart, because he was alone and learned to appriciate his friends when he was stuck alone in the dark with no weapons and i think it was a good call storytelling wise, but yeah the english localzation ruined it and made the whole chapter pointless .

The series has always been kinda Fruity and i know some of yall will be like, 'but there's no proof'. Well, japanese speakers(who arent homophobic at least) will agree with me that we tend in media that is not specified like BL or GL to make things subtle. So what in the west is called 'queer coding' is very common in japanese media and it comes in way more shape and forms.usually implied with a desper conncetion relationship or linguistics.its funny cause in the 80's and very early 90's gay pple wasnt hidden in jp pop culture (no kisses or anything but it was straight out told to the viewer/player)
