Doctor Who: The Eleventh Hour

I rewatched this story, the first of the 2010 season, on 24 July 2023. Ha - the story mentions a social media platform called Twitter on the day that Twitter tries to change its name to something silly.

We begin with a pre-credit sequence featuring the new Doctor hanging outside the TARDIS, sonic screwdriver in mouth, trying to avoid the crash that began in the last story that aired some four months prior… After a new version of the theme and opening titles, with the new logo, we arrive in an ordinary house where an ordinary girl is saying a prayer to Santa about a crack in the wall. She sees the TARDIS has crashed into a garden shed. She goes outside to investigate…

After the universe-weariness of the past Doctor carrying the weight of an epic story on his skinny shoulders, this new Doctor is brilliant. His rapport with the child, Amelia Pond, is spot on in terms of resetting the show again for a new audience. That need to reset the show every few years is something I’ve not really appreciated before watching it all in order.

As a story on its own it’s quite simple but it has so much in it. Humour, slapstick, a creepy horror, and a sadness as the Doctor mucks up how long he’s been away. In keeping with the 2005 season, this story seeds a theme for later.

Fun fact: Olivia Colman appears briefly in this story as a coma patient taken over by an alien entity.

OK, maybe I'm too much on Doctor Who right now but.... (there is no but, I definitly should be working😅)

Sooooo, I'm very much on River right now (don't even know why because when I first saw her, I hated her. I didn't want anybody yo replace Rose in the heart of the Doctor. But eventualy, I ve come to realize that the show is changing and so is the Doctor and the only thing I want is more aventures.

Well, I was casualy watching "the impossible astronaut" and I heard a reference to Misses Robinson that I didn't get. So I just search it on google and wikipedia learned me that Misses Robinson was a song made for a movie. An other fameuse song of that movie is The Sound of Silence. Of course, it is difficul not to do the link between that and The Silence ot the fisrt episode when River appears : Silence in the library.

Maybe (probably) I went too far... but I just wanted to share that thought.

Imagine Fiddleford sends a letter to the mystery shack with hearts on it labeled to 'Stanford' and both Ford and Stan start arguing over who it's meant for since they both like him ...then they open it and see that it's an invite to his renewing of vows with his raccoon wife.
