So I recently learnt how to crochet (after knitting, which I prefer but you can only really make amigurumi with crochet and I enjoy doing that) and uh this took about five hours to finish lmao BUT I FINISHED IT. The eyes are hot glued on and each fin started with a magic ring plus the starting one and the tail is two magic rings I'm so tired of these rings fam. And I was following written instructions and going off a couple of pictures. Well, no need for blåhaj I got the shark with the colours all over it lol wish I could make things like this to sell but they take too long to make and people wouldn't buy them for a fair price anyway so MY TRANS SHARK!

Sike, you can do it it, too, if you come across this kind of yarn and also crochet by following these instructions https://youtu.be/IT-8x3eadGs?si=P3RO1DE6IDvra3xS good luck. That's not my video obviously. Piece of advice if you do: stuff it before reaching the 2 stitches at the tail. When you have maybe 6 or so, stuff that thing, because the hole will be too small otherwise and you'll be stuck shoving the stuffing with a needle and not a lot of wiggle room. And definitely use something to mark the stitches at the start of each row. No need for that lock object. A piece of yarn of a different colour does the job. And you will need a tapestry needle. Plus, if you want to have the stomach be a different colour like this one, you need at least two kinds of yarn. Last piece of advice: don't overstuff if you don't have many hooks. If you do, use a smaller hook (one size down should do the job) than what you're meant to with the type of yarn you're using to have tighter stitches and no holes on the body. It may take longer, but it prevents holes. And the tension is basically really tight aside from the stomach.

I'll keep your kind thoughts in mind whenever the rare friction comes up again between my friend and me. It was such a quick process for me to desist and become gender critical that I think it's easy for me to forget how much harder it is for people to change their minds on the trans topic when they're so much more invested in it than I was. (Feel the same way about religion too, even as a little kid I was asking questions about why certain things bothered me in the Bible and getting frustrated when I got shame instead of answers. Maybe being annoying and asking too many questions is just in my DNA haha. But all the more reason why it's important to help those who aren't naturally critical: they're the ones falling for unreality the hardest because of that fact.)

Ultimately I will keep being me and see what happens, like I've done before. If nothing comes of it, then there was nothing else I could've done differently anyway. It's funny that you mention questioning the bible as a kid. I went to catholic school and I remember being taught in first grade that we were supposed to love god more than anything. More than we loved our parents or even our dogs, and I just couldn't get past the notion that I had to somehow love the kinda mean, angry, invisible flying grandpa*, who never says a damn thing when I pray, over the actual people who had raised me. I stayed in catholic school until graduation despite opposing catholicism, argued a LOT. I think my point is that I've also kind of been primed for voicing unpopular opinions, so I'm biased when it comes to people who are more hesitant to take any position on the matters at hand.

*sidenote, around this time I obsessively read My Book of Bible Stories (1978) which was given to me by JW doorknockers. This is a bit uncanny, I haven't seen this since I was about 8. It was a treasured book to me, it's full of old testament stories and pretty brutal:

9: when & where I tend to read varies wildly but if I really want to make myself sit down with a book I'll go to a local fancy café, order an aeropress coffee and a Greek pastry, and sit until I'm done reading. This has gotten me through rereading like a dozen Discworld books since September.

SIKE it's time for Akwaeke Emezi. The book I'm recommending is their YA novel Pet, which is about true justice in a post-revolutionary utopian Black America, angels, & monsters. I absolutely adore this book, and it's up there with Best Books I've Ever Read. Its audience skews a little younger than what I tend to read, and its protagonist, a twelve-year-old named Jam, would absolutely have been a character I looked up to had I read the book at her age.

When I talk about this book I often struggle to discuss it in terms of Representation because, for one, it's better than pretty much any other YA fiction I've read at representing certain experiences: namely, its heroine is an autistic, semiverbal Black trans girl, its entire cast of characters is Black (though not entirely Black American, as there's most definitely Caribbean & African influence in the utopian town of Lucille where the story is set), and the breadth of human experience represented in a way that's suitable for people aged 12 to 120 is truly incredible.

That said, I don't want to recommend this book because its cast is so richly described or because of the marginalised identities front and centre to the story-these, integral to the story as they are, are simply part of the greater narrative point Emezi makes about justice in a society where revolutionary action has worked, pretty much perfectly, and Pet as a novel concerns itself very little with identity. Jam takes her hormones and communicates nonverbally, and this is given as much importance in her daily routine as her choice of breakfast. People no longer need to work for money and instead contribute to a constructive society as they are best equipped to do so, but, again, we see very little of this utopian society's structure, or only as little as a preteen who suddenly has an angel in her house & must confront the humanity of the monsters in her city's past is going to describe to the reader.

The primary reason, indeed, that I recommend Pet is for its views on revolution, history, & the idea of societal heroes, as well as its beautiful, readable prose style, wildly likeable protagonist, and frankly fucking incredible description of its titular angel. I'm not the best of book reviewers but I would ask you to please believe me when I say this book, and what I've read of the rest of Emezi's work (Bitter, a prequel to Pet, for young adults, and Freshwater & The Death of Vivek Oji for adults), is something extraordinary, and should be on anyone's reading list.

I like Sakiz attitude towards life, not letting her illness bring her down and continue to spread positivity and support her friend group. (Kinda like me n my primary school friends.)

I like Neuvilette alot because he feels like someone intelligent that I could be. Extremely objective and reasonable, like a perfect machine of logic and immortality. His journey of empathising well with humans is an interesting one, it feels like me as a person who feels isolated alot being welcomed to people and being treated as an equal. (Bros aura is unmatched)

Oh and Eduardo oh he's just silly.

Eduardo is an interesting character. Like I feel like I can relate to him alot. His emotional immaturity, his pettiness, his desire for improvement.

But what separates him from all of my favourite characters is that he doesn't have everything figured out, he's still not recovered and discovered himself yet.

Eduardo went through another death, just as traumatic as Laurels. I'm not saying he deserved it but it's like a wake up call. He snaps out of his cartoonish state and it feels like I can see him, I can feel that mask slipping off his face. I can feel his vulnerability.

I feel like I've been lying to myself about who I am and I feel like I can never have my original self back anymore.

I don't think he can either, he was happy before, he just wanted to draw cute shit and he was happy for it, when he actually did art because he liked it.

Now he realises that part of him is gone and no matter how he tries he can't have it back. But maybe this ripping of the mask can give him time to reflect.
