im one of the biggest aranea fans out there. i love her. have been for years. BUT.

i do often toss around the idea of araneas role being replaced with feferi, who i think couldve served this role for several reasons...

feferi has probably the closest thematic ties with the dream bubbles, both helping create them and being our first real exposure to the afterlife. she could have easily remained relevant in the story as a ghost.

act 6, esp early act 6, is about the condesce. yes we get plenty of meenah but she doesnt actually do much outside of the intermission. i think having the three iterations of peixes in major character roles wouldve been! interesting!

then theres feferis classpect. witches are among the most powerful classes, and feferi as a witch of life (even an unrealized one) would have massive potential over the outcome of the new timeline and the new universe.

feferis coddling and slightly manipulative nature (YES she does have flaws and i love her for it) could easily be exacerbated by circumstances to manifest as a savior/god complex for the new timeline. paaarticularly if the horrorterrors are getting killed left and right by lord english.

just. agh agh agh. feferi you have so much potential you are like an egg to me.

I think, at this point, it's safe to say that Eridan's snapped.

The trolls have been stuck inside a rock for hours, hiding from an invincible threat that they don't really understand. They're all aware that they could die at any moment, and are surely living off adrenaline and cortisol at this point. Most of them can't even sleep, because the Furthest Ring just makes their headaches worse.

These kids have been pushed to breaking point. Vriska has already lost it, and now Eridan's following suit. He wants an end to this, especially even if it means betraying his stinky lowblood allies.

And this is not going to end well for him.

Frankly, I don’t even think he's going to make it off the meteor. He's made the mistake of trying to recruit Feferi – somehow he’s actually deluded enough to think she’d join him – and now that he's revealed his plan, he’s going to be up against the entire meteor, or at least the trolls savvy enough to realize he’s dooming them all.

I have a lot of questions about his Hope wand, but one thing’s for sure – it can’t beat everyone. At best, he'll be imprisoned, because Karkat wouldn't want him killed, but if he throws hands with, say, Vriska, he's going to be reduced to a purple smear on the wall.

If you were to describe Feferi Peixes bubbly would be a good start, followed in no particular order by impractical, stubborn and criminally optimistic. She boasts of the kind of genuine self-assuredness you've come to expect of someone that's never had to face something as mundane as failure.

As per your agreement she brought her ideas for your team to review this meeting. It's a hastily edited copy of a half-thought-out plan, but at least it's something concrete. Even if most of it is straight up unworkable.

what do you think beforus's ancestors were like?

SEE THIS IS REALLY HARD FOR ME BECAUSE ANCESTOR NAMING CONVENTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND SCARY.

like obviously i dont have to give them names i can literally just be like "oh beforus vriska was arrested for tax evasion" but theres nothing COOL about that but my brain has MELTED trying to think of eight letter words that were actually thematically resonant and interesting but i am NOT on enough amphetamines to do whatever the fuck andrew was doing in that comic.

in any case ummm i do have some rapidfire concepts that i bounced around in my head.

Beforus!Karkat is a STAUNCH opponent to Feferi's leadership. He basically acted as a pretty significant political rival during the early part of her reign and it was his bitching and his support from the public that would inspire a lot of political unrest and social reform. Like tbh? To me? He was troll Karl Marx. he was a true comrade.

Beforus!Tavros was....sigh. The founder of the. "Lost. Weaboos." (god that name still sucks and i fucking hate andrew hussie) He totally separated from Beforan society and negotiated for a piece of land completely exempt from Empirical law. It became a safe haven for a lot of trolls unsatisfied with being culled and denied their independence.

Beforus!Aradia was a researcher of the occult and discovered the future existence of Lord English, and that their own universe was ultimately destined to be destroyed. She would spend almost all of her life detailing the future downfall of Beforan civilization and her writings are regarded as scripture in certain doomsday cults. She is long since after regarded as a saint.

Beforus!Vriska's lusus was "put down" due to spidermom being a danger to society, leaving her without a lusus to care for her. She was culled and raised by highbloods, and she was absolutely SPOILED. She became relatively well-adjusted though. She became a game show host and hosted the most popular program on Beforus for centuries, becoming a really strong media personality and able to influence political events due to her fan following.

Beforus!Nepeta was relatively unknown before her death, but she wrote thousands and thousands of poems in her life-time that have become memorialized in history. Poems that would definitely be reposted on Beforus tumblr over and over in different languages and contexts. She is considered to be shrouded in mystery, with very few details about her personal life being known, as if they were VOIDED out.

Beforus!Kanaya above all wanted to negotiate peace between the disparate highblood and lowblood classes, trying to make both sides settle for compromises and upholding the status quo rather than openly campaign for social change. As a result, this made her somewhat of a contentious figure. She often would prevent conflicts from escalating to bloodshed, but it only allowed for minimal change to occur, social progress proceeding in increments.

Feferi really didn’t expect to be woken up in the middle of the night by her phone ringing, but hey, there’s a first for everything.

She sluggishly grabs her glasses off of her nightstand to see that Eridan was calling her. Eridan wasn’t one to call, which was the first sign that something was wrong. Secondly, when she picked up the call and sleepily asked “...Eridan? Why’re you calling me this late?”, all she heard from the other end was wails coming from the other; Panicked hyperventilating and crying. 

That woke her up quickly. “Glub! Okay, Eridan, I’m on my way now. Are you at your hive?” she asked, panicking as she got dressed. Between sobs he whined out an “mhm”.

“Be there soon!” She said, and before she could hang up, he cried out “No, don’t go!”

She sadly smiled at his response, “I’ll stay on the line bub, okay?” He hummed, still breathing way too fast. She left her hive soon after that, swimming up to the surface to reach Eridan’s shipwreck. Thankfully, he didn’t live too far away.

“I’m here, Eridan, I’m gonna hang up the phone now”, she says loudly as she enters through his doorway, making sure he had heard her. She could hear Eridan hiccup, his crying was still loud and unbearable to hear, but it had calmed down a little.

She finds the little in his room, curled up on the floor. He had a thick blanket wrapped around him, his glasses were slightly askewed on his face, tears tracked down his face. Feferi thought he looked so small, physically and probably mentally.

Definitely mentally, she thinks, as he sticks a thumb into his mouth and begins to chew on it.

“Momma…”, he whines, reaching out to her with his free hand.

“Hi, baby, Momma’s here now”, she says, bending down to sit on the floor. She picks him up and sits him in her lap, encasing the little in a warm hug. 

He sobs into her shoulder, both out of relief and exhaustion. Feferi holds him tight, letting him cry out all of his big feelings. She began to rock him gently, whispering reassurances into his fins as he wailed to his momma.

After a while, Eridan calms down. He slumps in Feferi’s arms, he had already tired himself out from the nonstop crying. “Is someone sleepy?” she asks, to which Eridan slowly nods.

“What was that all about, hm? Can you tell Momma what’s wrong?” Feferi pressed. She didn’t want to pressure her baby, but she was really concerned to why he was this upset this late at night.

Eridan just shook his head, whining as he buried it into Feferi’s shoulder. She sighs, “That’s okay, bub, you don’t have to tell me”.

She looks over to the clock that was hung on Eridan’s wall, it read 1:23 am. “Are you ready for bed, bub? Or would you like some milk to help?” 

Eridan thinks for a moment before mumbling “Milk” around his thumb that he had moved to his mouth. He sucked on it as Feferi moved him to her hip so she could pick up the smaller. Eridan really didn’t weigh anything, so it wasn’t very hard to carry the other troll to the kitchen.

She grabs his baby bottle and fills it with milk, putting it in the microwave for a moment. The bottle was black with purple fish and bubbles covering it, something she thought was so cute and just so Eridan. She tested the milk before handing the bottle back to Eridan, and sure enough, the temperature was perfect. He gratefully accepts his bottle, chewing on the teet as he drank his milk.

“Let’s head back to bed, baby, ok? Momma’s gonna spend the night tonight”, Feferi said. They made their way back to Eridan’s bedroom, and thankfully he had something else they could cuddle on besides his recuperacoon. She couldn’t imagine how uncomfortable that would be. In the corner of the room was an actual bed, home to Eridan’s many blankets and stuffed animals. Most of them were cute sea creatures, all gifted to him by Feferi. 

She sits Eridan down on the bed so she can go find his pacifier. His little stuff was hiding somewhere in his room, she just couldn’t remember where!

Eventually, she finds the soother tucked underneath some old research papers, which were littered all over the bedroom. It had a protective cap on it, so she wouldn’t need to leave the room to wash it. Feferi didn’t think Eridan would react very well to her leaving right now.

She makes her way back to the bed, replacing his thumb with the pacifier he probably had been yearning for all night. He gives his Momma a wobbly smile, his arms outreached, silently asking to be held.

 She gives in, giving the little one a tight hug before getting into bed, tucking them in and making sure Eridan was comfortable. She carefully takes off his glasses, setting them on the endtable of the bed. She tracts a thumb underneath his eyes, gently wiping away his dried tears. Maybe he would talk about what had happened later, but she didn’t feel like putting any extra stress onto him now. Glub knows he would just start crying again, exhausting himself even more. 

For now, they were just going to cuddle and go to bed. She wraps her arms around the little, gently pressing a kiss to his forehead. “Momma loves you, Eridan”, she whispers.

“Love you too…” he mumbles, and soon, he’s fast asleep.

Kanaya grips her lipstickkind with numb fingers, Rose's weight heavy on her shoulder as she stares up and up and up at the fully grown troll towering over them.

Her Imperious Condescension, in the flesh, bodysuit and all.
