FUTURE What is likely to happen to the character in the future. Judgment - Accountability for one's actions. New beginnings. Awakening.
Dunno what the take-away is here, interpretation isn't my forte. I just wanted to play with my cards.
Thing to note: I didn't make a verbal inquiry the first time(s - since I did this for three of my kintypes); I did, however, make a verbal inquiry the second time while still in the grips of a kinshift for this particular one.

@candy-cryptid yes! That's another bit of evidence that I forgot to add--"man" implies that his gender is known, which can't necessarily be said of the player; so we know (or can assume) that there is a man from another world, and we know that Sans refers to wanting to go "back" somewhere, but being unable to, and instead accepting the underground as his home.
Also, "beware" makes sense in this context, too--since Sans is able and in some cases willing to deliver a whooping for the ages. I think by raw power alone, Sans is worth a "beware" or two. So that line could refer to him!
I want more of your Undertale headcannons. SPILL!!!!
Alright! Any specific kind? no? here's a thing:
I think Sans Undertale is from an alternate dimension. I do not think he is from the Underground at all.
This is for a variety of reasons, mostly hints: the riverperson's "beware the man from the other world" line, Sans's lines concerning the Surface ("we call that the sun, my friend"--who's we? presumably people who experience the sun and therefore have a reason to call it anything), and most of all Sans's frequent references to wanting to "go back"/accepting he can't "go back."
Now, going back could refer to time (ie my "what if Sans used to be able to reset" post), but I believe he means going to a physically different place. The vagueness of "going back" could be an attempt to make his experiences more understandable from a time-travel perspective, or just because he's mostly speaking to himself, but the most obvious interpretation is that he was in one place, ended up in another, and has since been unable to return. Occam's razor.
Similarly, the restaurant conversation could be interpreted as personal experience--his argument is basically that the Underground might not be what Frisk is used to, and it might not have everything, but it may not be worth it to try to return from the world they're from. Sometimes you have to learn to settle. Which seems more like an argument that comes from a place of experience/empathy than something he sat down and though would be the most convincing logical argument to use for them, especially given what he knows about their determination. They absolutely can kill Asgore and cross the Barrier, or perhaps find another way...but maybe, like him, they'll find that they're happier just accepting where they are and building a better life Underground, rather than struggle to reach their old home, only to realize that the cost is too great. Especially because he doesn't know why Frisk came to Ebott in the first place.
There's also the issue where no one seems to know where Sans and Papyrus come from. The people of Snowdin say they just appeared one day. Papyrus similarly just appeared outside of Undyne's door one night. Sans has science stuff and pictures of him with several mysterious figures in his secret lab basement thing--could be a connection with Gaster and the Gaster Followers, and/or items he has left over from another life in another world.
Anyway, it's not proof positive that he's from an AU (Deltarune...?), but it's a fun idea to play with! And, ultimately, it makes a lot of things about Sans make sense. Now the real question becomes, where did Papyrus come from...
#undertale#headcanon#could theoretically refer to gaster too but i think that's pretty soundly disproven#bc he built the core...which is pretty clearly not in another world#and the only way that he would be switching worlds is due to being scattered across time and space#after which he would not be building things like the core#bc he is in itty bitty bits#thus the core is in his initial world; thus ut is his world of origin; thus the line isn't about him#side note but i like the interpretation of gaster where he's just like#little bits of a dude. which are sometimes varying amounts of present#one day the walls bleed goo that disappears even as it's created#another day sans's notes have critiques written on them out of nowhere#sometimes coffee mugs get moved around#i was undecided about having him around in wt ut verse in this sense#where sans is just like. just a little bit haunted#like a friendly kind of haunted! kind of annoying at worst#just a semisentient bit of consciousness that remembers that he and sans are buds and not a lot else

can we talk about something.
because. okay, look. the way that i’ve come to understand dess’s disappearance is:
she went into the bunker.
inside the bunker is another dark world. the “original” dark world, so to speak.
i believe she discovered the dark world on her own, after fiddling with and eventually breaking the lock on the bunker doors over the course of several days. she was just curious about what was inside. excited, she tried to bring asriel, noelle, and kris along to show them the amazing world inside the bunker. due to circumstances i’m about to get to, only kris and possibly noelle made it in with her.
something went wrong, and only kris (and noelle, if she was there, and for the rest of this post i’m going to just roll with the idea that she was) made it out. noelle ended up repressing most of the incident, while kris retained enough of it to try to tell people about the world inside the bunker. no one believed them, but the place just... feels a bit haunted now. it was already creepy enough before it became associated with dess’s disappearance. i’m more or less certain that if snowy hadn’t interrupted them, monster kid would have said, “what if there’s really another world in there?”
side note: i think there’s a good chance that kris, until recent events, was starting to believe the world in the bunker was just a dream, too. but now they know it really was real. now they might know where dess is. (double side note: i don’t think kris is the knight who opened the fountains in the supply closet and the abandoned classroom. that was someone else. who? idk. they might have been the one who opened the fountain in the library, though.)
the night of the bunker misadventure just so happened to be the night of one of the worst blizzards hometown has ever seen.
the snow started coming down about halfway to the bunker. dess reassured everyone that they would be fine and could wait it out there; they just needed to hurry; she seemed so confident and so sure, that everyone chose to trust her judgement. unfortunately, the storm got worse very quickly. it became hard to see, and for little kris and noelle, it was hard to keep up in the wind. the group began to separate. kris and noelle ended up at the bunker with dess, while asriel got turned around and started walking back towards town, where he ran into the frantic search party comprised of all their parents, undyne, and some other adults.
i’m pretty insistent on dess’s disappearance coinciding with a snowstorm but not really having anything to do with it because, for one, it offers an explanation for noelle’s seemingly trauma-related response to the cold (that one customer in the store saying she sometimes just stands with the freezer door open, staring inside). and if there was a snowstorm the same night she vanished, then—well, it’s easy to declare the cause for her disappearance, isn’t it? it’s strange that a body was never found, but if monsters in deltarune turn to dust after death (i’m still not convinced they necessarily do), then maybe it’s not so strange. in the strong winds, her dust would have been long gone. or: who knows what wild animal could have gotten a hold of her?
that’s just the official declaration, though. that doesn’t mean everyone in hometown buys it. but that’s besides the point.
and mainly i insist on this because now we have a very interesting parallel to draw between her and berdly in the snowgrave route. both “vanish” in a terrible, terrible snowstorm. (i don’t think it’s a coincidence that the visuals for snowgrave look like a blizzard.) but i was thinking about it, and we can take the parallel further actually.
we are all more or less in agreement that it’s pretty damn likely that dess is stuck in the void/code of the game like gaster is. there’s a good chance that she’s the voice in the strings that’s calling for help. so, going off of how i interpret her disappearance—if she’s just in a dark world, that doesn’t make much sense, right? how did she get into the void from there? and even if no one believed kris’s story, the bunker would have been searched. like, the “world inside the bunker” bit sounds like a stretch, but any reasonable adult would conclude that the kids probably tried to take shelter in there. but if the bunker had been searched, then they would have discovered the dark world in there, right??
okay, well. what if the fountain had been sealed?
i’m not sure who/what/how. i’m leaning towards some kind of freak accident. it seems that kris’s process for sealing the fountains is pretty automatic, so maybe if they were just... brought too close to it. maybe this is where their issues with their soul started. i don’t know. what i do have an idea of is this: the two times we’ve seen a fountain sealed, it “cleans up” a bit. the lightners are brought back into their world in a way that makes sense, either to them (noelle and berdly thinking they’re waking up from an accidental nap) or to anyone who might walk in on them (kris and susie looking like they just hung out in the old classroom playing chess and old board games). it’s a combination of intent and whether the lightners believe the dark world is real or not. so when dess uses all of her strength to pick up noelle and kris and shove them out of the world that’s crumbling away into nothingness, at her own expense, they are quite literally shoved out of the bunker and into the cold snow outside, quickly falling unconscious due to shock and because they probably hit their heads, and the double doors of the bunker swing shut behind them.
and dess is swept away with the dark world. she’s now stuck in-between the worlds of light and dark. she exists, and yet, she doesn’t. she has gaster for company, and yet, she doesn’t.
the snowgrave route has raised the question of what happens when a lightner’s soul is stuck when a dark fountain is sealed. what if the popular theory for dess’s fate is our answer? i think berdly’s case would be different in a lot of ways, for a lot of reasons, but the core of it remains the same. he’s stuck between existence and nonexistence, able to be reached through what is—from our perspective but who knows what it is from an in-universe perspective—the code of the game.
perhaps because he is a lightner, he is a little more There, a little more consistent, than gaster’s fragmented self. dess has someone to talk to. someone who happened to be her little sister’s close friend, someone who can tell her about the person noelle has grown into over the years. someone, who can tell her that something is wrong.
could be interesting if, together, they found a way to tear through the boundaries of reality and broke into a future dark world. i’m not sure how they would manifest, because while i’ve settled on dess retaining her body, years in the void has caused her to become a little more..malleable. kinda like mr. goop-i-mean-gaster. and the idea with berdly is that because his body was frozen in the dark world, his consciousness/soul/self/whatever you want to call it was separated and thrown into the void. he’s not physical, at all. but all that just opens the door to some fun design possibilities, doesn’t it? :)
#finally. an interpretation of That part of the snowgrave route that doesn't make me so upset i get nauseous. god#deltarune#berdly#dess#december holiday#snowgrave#hehe. normally this is the part where i write a secret second essay in the tags but i think i got out everything i wanted to say in the post#it's a miracle! that never happens!#definitely going to be tinkering with this concept here and there. because like. it's way easier on my brain and i can handle it#and i like the idea of berdly and dess becoming void-bound buddies quite a lot.

some musical gasterology thoughts
the original version of gaster's theme is essentially a bVI-V vamp with the melody outlining △7 chordioids (that's a △7 chord with no third). notably this unusual chord (although voiced differently) also appears in the snowdin forest theme. the chord progression that we hear his theme in for the only time in undertale has sort of a perpetual "ramping up" or "anticipation" feel to it, as if it's building up to a big resolution that never comes - this makes looping it really effective, as we also hear in the cube escape: paradox soundtrack. this realization of the theme is also a really good representation of trying to uncover and theorize about gaster before deltarune - you may keep finding pieces, but there's no climax or big reveal, just some tantalizing clues... the passing tritone-to-fifth we hear in that V chord section is also an extremely romantic-era move which helps lend his character a more dignified/formal feel which a lot of people picked up on.
the first time we hear it in deltarune ("another him"), it's in a radically different harmonic context where it's totally unrooted and floating around by half steps. this contributes to a spacey feel but also lets us hear it on around 4 different root notes as opposed to the original 2. imo, it's a really strong signal that we're going to see more and different sides of gaster in deltarune right from the very beginning, but the less-functional harmony helps temper expectations: nothing big is going to happen quite yet.
meanwhile in darkness falls, it's reharmonized again as the 2 b3 and b7 of a minor chord, a much darker sound which we hear a lot of in the hollow knight soundtrack. similarly in "lost girl" we hear it as the 2 and b3 of the tonic minor and then the 1 of the subsequent bVII. i interpret this sadder gaster's theme as also representing a sadder gaster; this has implications that maybe he cares about noelle to some degree although we never see it
in "scarlet forest" and "welcome to the city", we hear it on bVI (or its relative-major interpretation IV) like in the original version. this could indicate that in these areas, we're closest to his true/original form... more evidence that he's the man behind the tree.
in conclusion, i should go to bed
in conclusion, i am making out with you right now
there is truly no better music to my ears than the phrase "musical gasterology"!! this is stuff I've noticed too and just had absolutely no way of articulating FDJKFHKD but you've done a FANTASTIC job here outlining all of this in a way that actually explains what's musically happening and i'm SO glad you decided to send me this
#i am thinking about it all so aggressively. you are adding to the fuel of things that make me want to take theory classes#i dont have much to add because im sleepy and braindead rn but i am just rotating this all in my mind so hard THANK U#utdr#utdr meta#gaster tag#answered#gaster

Rules
Migrating to a ~mobile friendly page~
I'm very much a 'you do your thing, I do my thing' type of gal, so, don't stop me from doing my thing and I won't stop you from doing your thing, alright?
Other than that, I don’t ask much, really just the basics.
Mun: Jessica / Roz / Donut, 28, EST.
Your Responsibilities:
Please softblock (block and then unblock) if you decide to no longer interact with me.
Please do not godmod or metagame.
Please have a rules and about page. I’m unlikely to follow back if you do not.
Honestly the rest of this page is just more about how I operate than anything.
Multimuse specific rules:
It’s totally fine if you’re only here for one muse! Just let me know so I don’t try to tetris together interactions you don’t have any interest in.
You’re more than welcome to specify a muse or leave it up to me–I don’t mind.
Promos:
If I’ve reblogged your promo, I’ve already read your rules. But I’m leaving the choice to follow up to you.
Dash Commentary:
Sometimes I like to just have fun with whatever’s currently happening on the dash, or have two of my characters have conversations with each other.
These interactions are non-canon to threads. Think of them like omakes, or actors stepping off stage to commentate outside of the story.
You are more than welcome to jump in on any of these interactions! As long as you acknowledge that it will have no impact on any “serious” interactions.
Ask Memes:
You’re encouraged to send them.
However, you’ll likely only see IC ones from me once we have some sort of established relationship between two characters.
You’re more than welcome to continue any ask you’ve sent. I literally cannot be assed to move incoming asks to a new post -- but don’t take this to mean I don’t want you to respond. You’re more than welcome to move it to a new post if you want to respond--or just reblog it, and I’ll move it next time. XKit Rewritten can now trim asks! So I'll probably just reblog asks and you're welcome to do the same.
Tagging:
Undertale content will be tagged with undertale cw. Please let me know if there’s any other catch-alls you need. Please note that I generally don't tag generic AUs of Gaster with this tag, as he's basically an OC at that point. If just seeing his name bothers you, I'd recommend blocking his entire tag.
I do tag other triggers with the same pattern, but I tend to reserve it for explicit descriptions rather than passing mentions.
All characters have a specific tag that all of their content will be tagged with--if there’s any particular character you don’t like, you’re welcome to blacklist that tag.
I don’t need anything tagged but I do prefer a nsfw tag, specifically for visual nudity.
Fandoms:
Honestly even though many of my muses are from a certain canon, I'm much more prone to writing generic verses.
I will still write within Undertale, ATLA, or Pokemon, but those tend to require more plotting.
This has nothing to do with these fandoms -- just that I tend to take... unconventional turns with my muses and don't always mesh with the common interpretation.
Almost all of my muses have generic fantasy, modern, and sci-fi verses.
The one except to this are my BLEACH muses, who are pretty much only written within BLEACH.
I don't have any carpet bans on specific fandoms -- you're welcome to hang around regardless of where your muse is from.
Content:
I LOVE crossovers! If you’re totally enamored with a character (on my side, or yours) we can probably find a way to make it work! That being said, if I’m unfamiliar with your fandom, I’m going to leave it up to you to figure out how to interact.
I’ll write just about any genre--fluff, horror, romance, dystopian, drama, angst. Perfectly fine with gore and torture threads. Super intense stuff will get bonked to Discord or an 18+ sideblog, though.
I don’t generally list content I don’t engage with because I believe it always requires a critical mind on an individual basis, but the line is non-consensual (where consensual is defined as being between two sentient adults) sex. I don’t mind if your muse has it in their backstory or if it comes up indirectly, but I have no interest in writing my muses explicitly in that situation.
I do not take faceclaims for my muses. Every icon of a muse is either the actor that canonically portrayed them, the muse as they canonically appear in games / cartoons / etc., or hand drawn to be that muse. This isn’t an attack on faceclaims! You’re more than welcome to use them, but it does mean that I will not use a different set of icons if you don’t like the actor, and I will not use animated icons for live actors or live actors for animated icons. I don’t have issues with mixing styles in a thread but if you’d prefer me to not use icons (for any reason at all, not just the ones outlined above) just let me know.
Most of my canon muses are close to what you would see in canon, but with a few twists. I don't see the point in rehashing what's been done -- I like to do something new.
Interactions:
If I follow you on any of your blogs, consider us mutuals on all of your blogs. If you have a muse on another blog you’d like to interact with, go for it! This applies to multimuses, too--if you have a specific character you want to throw at mine, go for it. I can’t promise it’ll work out but I’ll usually at least try.
I’ll usually give most blogs a chance, regardless of what character, fandom, faceclaim they are–even if I don’t follow back. If I don't follow back, though, it'll be on you to initiate interaction.
That said, I do still reserve the right to not interact with someone.
The more threads we have, the merrier.
I honestly work best once I have a general dynamic to work with, even if it’s as simple as ‘friends’ or ‘don’t like each other.’
Personals are welcome.
You’re more than welcome to like / reblog content or memes. But check with my partner first!
Drama
I’m not inclined to reblog callouts, but I do take all allegations very seriously and engage with them with a critical mind.
On the rare case that I do reblog a callout, it will be tagged appropriately with an abundance of tags.
You’re more than welcome to inform me of potentially problematic behavior from the people I interact with, but do not expect me to blindly accept the allegations.
And on that note, even if I do reblog a callout, I never expect you to blindly agree with it. It's just a matter of me thinking its important enough for my mutuals to be aware of. I will never tell you that you can't interact with someone or what conclusions you should make about them.
Account & General.
If you notice a similarity to lesserlovedlovelies, it’s because AOL nuked the email associated with that account so I just moved here.
I will only send passwords after you follow me.
I'm shy as fuck but actively working to do better. If you see this, just popping in and saying hi makes a world of difference!
I don't, in general, take mains or exclusives. I want to write with everyone, including duplicates. Though admittedly I'm less likely to follow first if you write a or with a duplicate of my muse >//<
I think this is good enough for now, but I do have a RULES tag that has other various important information if you’re looking for something specific.

Underworld AU Info
🌼 Ok so I know I am not the best at describing exactly what Underworld or the Welcome to the Underworld fic is. I am going to endeavor to do so right now so bear with me. Before I begin I need to preface that this AU is dark. It has dark themes which is why I post it under M. This is my Underfell and the fic/AU that started my multiverse. Every single Fell based AU that I have created is based off this lore/world build. I will be answering some frequently asked questions. Feel free to ask more!
What is WTU/ Underworld/ Welcome to the Underworld? They are all names I use for my lore as well as fic that I write over on AO3.
What makes your any different from the other Fells? This one is easy to answer. I have spent a long time crafting this world and story. I try to tie it to UT with specific references or events but the characters, world build, and plot are not UT. The locations are the same with specific alterations and events have taken place to change the characters personalities and their motivations. This world is not for the faint of heart which is why it is called the Underworld and not the Underground.
Is this a Frans Fic/ story? In essence, yes, but I would like to note that just because Frans is in it does not mean it is necessarily the central focus. It is more about how their relationship develops and grows over the course of 3 Acts. There are other ships within the story as well such as MTT/Boss, Grillby/ Muffet, and NCG/ Rabbit shop keeper (Her name is Rae). What are the Acts and how are they different?
Act 1 is the journey that Frisk takes through the Underworld to reach The Capital. It is the UT journey as I like to call it. Up to about the middle section of Waterfall there is more original takes and content that are added. As an example a lot of Hotland is entirely different from the original game.
Act 2 is the monsters adaption to being on the surface and living among humans once again. It is more of a slice of life tone than the first act and focuses mainly on more character development and relationships.
Act 3 is a culmination of one and two. I tend to keep this one under wraps since the story completely detaches itself from the original. Frisk must make another journey and piece the Underworld back together with the help of a friend and a foe. This is really where the original work comes into play with that UT flare.
It’s a Fell verse so are all the monsters evil?
No, they are not all evil and I would argue that a lot of them are not. They are just trying to survive in this now lawless society run by a crime syndicate known as the Triad. Snowdin in particular is a safe haven under the protection of Boss for monsters that are just trying to live their lives. They don’t even really hate humans as you can find out in the chapters with the rabbit family.
Where is Chara?
Oh she is there... trust me...
Is Gaster a part of this story?
Yes... yes he is but he does not show up until around the end of Act 2 (Now if you want to talk about a monster that’s evil...)
In the Waterfall chapters it’s mentioned that there are human remains but I thought only the 7 souls fell? Not in my canon. I canon that there are more humans that have fallen down than the 7. The notable souls that we all talk about are special because they are pure souls of the 7 traits while other humans can have a combination of traits in lower quantities. They souls have to be pure of one specific trait. That is why the Black Market exists. Alphys in particular knows how to extract soul essence which is sold illegally. It is incredibly dangerous for monsters to dose with human soul traits but some do it and pay big money for the feelings/power it gives them.
Is MTT still a killer robot?
Yes, but not of his own volition. Alphys being the mad scientist she is and prodigy to the late William Darrius Gaster, has used her scientific knowledge to imprison MTT. I won’t go too much into it but... he does not want to be a killer robot.
Where is the fic so far? Act 1: Hotland
What other changes are there? (this is just a few)
- The MTT hotel is now Muffet’s casino - Grillby’s diner is now a nightclub - Hotland has a new area, the gold mines - The true lab does not exist since it exploded a long time ago. It is basically in Ruins now - Snowdin’s magical “sun” acts as an actual sky - Boss is Captain of the Royal Guard not Undyne - MTT’s show is more like a coliseum and death gauntlet - Undyne’s backstory is vastly different from the original as well as other Fell interpretations
Are there lesser monsters and side characters?
Yes! Of course there are. I really try to spotlight each and every one. That includes Doggo, Gerson, Nice Cream Guy, Snowdrake, Monster Kidd. They are all in the fic. I feel like they don’t get enough love and even some play a far larger role than the original like Grillby as an example.
Are you really going to complete this?
Come Hell or high water you bet I am.
Do your versions look different?
If you are referring to design, yes, they do. I have redesigned the cast from top to bottom with what I feel looks the best. Their designs do change when Act 2 is in play. Red still wears his jacket though.
Can I send in asks about the world/fic/designs?
Of course you can! My ask box is always open!

Since it is November 1st (or at least November 1st in central america which right now it’s like 8am. (WHICH MEANS I CAN FINALLY POST THIS, I GOT UP EARLY AS FUCK JUST FOR THIS. I left my laptop in sleep mode just so that I could easily post this and not ruin Toby’s request ouo) believe it’s time to talk about this theory I have.
I believe Delta Rune takes place in the timeline where “Chara” and Asriel succeed in getting the monsters above ground or in a timeline where Asgore succeeded in getting 7 human souls much earlier then in Undertale. Which can be validated by the fact that him and Toriel seem to be divorced by this point and that he keeps colored flower’s under glass in his room which could be memorials to the fallen children that he took. I however am going to go with the first part of this..mainly because of the title of the game it’s self Delta Rune as in the same Delta Rune that held the prophecy about going up to the surface which I think that Asriel and Chara both fulfilled. And that the red locked door by it’s lonesome is the exit from the underground to the surface.
So let me explain my findings~
First we are introduced to Kris who is Toriel and Asgore’s “child” along with Asriel who is at college right now. Kris is definitely in Chara’s outfit and is taller then both Chara and Frisk so they’re older. and from the ending…..it’s safe to assume that Chara and Kris are the same person. Chara has never been explicitly called Chara in the game undertale..their name has always been the player’s name and the fandom labeled them as Chara due to data mined sprites labeling them as such. I can hear it now though..“but then why is it when you type in “Chara” for your name it calls the game calls it “the true name”? cuz it’s literally short for character..the true name of any person in a game is that they are a character in that game..and without our influence as a player I think that “Chara” could have easily been given the name Kris.
There’s also the fact that Bratty/Catty are enemies and Alphys/Undyne do not know each other. The second of those two options being much more interesting since it implies that Alphys was never the royal scientist and never spent much time in the dump to help those two develop that friendship and also therefore never met Undyne in waterfall or royal guard. Supporting this fact is that by knocking on Napstablook’s house can get the voice of someone calling you darling and Beautiful along with saying that they are a nobody. Assuming this is Mettaton they definitely would be a nobody had Alphys not made them a robotic body. There are also two graves found in the graveyard by the church that are for the ice bird’s mom and for the dog’s pack leader which both had died but had been brought back as amalgamates via Alphys’s experimenting so that never occurred.
So when did they leave the underground exactly? Well as much as I would like to find a more exact time based off of these character deaths the problem of how monster’s decompose is an issue. They turn to dust..so who’s to say that the monster families didn’t just keep the dust in a jar and bury it in those spots at a later date? Another issue with this logic would be that they could have died on the surface. So until further details I can’t base the timeline on that.
However I can base it on how Toriel and Asgore act along with Alphys non royal scientistness that I discussed earlier. Asgore and Toriel are divorced in DeltaRune from what I can tell since it seems like Asgore lives in his flower shop which means that by this point he has probably killed a couple kids one way or another. This along with the fact that Alphys is not the royal scientist can mean only one thing. They had to have left the underground when WD Gaster was presumed to be the royal scientist…and judging by the fact that we have yet to see him it’s safe to assume everyone left the underground shortly after he disappeared.
Another thing to note is that Sans can be talked with as Kris is returning home and he says that he’s new in town. How is it that they were much later then everyone else in getting to the surface? One of the main fan theories is that Sans and Papyrus are fairly new to the underground and were made much later in Undertale’s timeline so by this logic they would have been born or made shortly before or after Alphys was named royal scientist which means this would hold true in the DeltaRune timeline. Meaning that right now the DeltaRune timeline is taking place right around when the skeleton brothers first came to Snowdin in the Undertale timeline. Side note this is nice to know since it could also tell us how old Asriel and Chara/Kris would be if they were alive when Frisk would have gone to the underground in Undertale, of course adding a few years to let the skeleton brothers settle in. Though there is one thing that could throw a wrench into this line of thinking and that is Gerson’s grave.
Gerson is definitely alive and well in Undertale well past when Sans and Papyrus first moved into Snowdin so why does that no longer hold true in the DeltaRune timeline? It may just be an assumption but i’m going to say that the reason for them leaving the underground so soon may have resulted in Gerson’s death. Otherwise this new timeline would have a lot of explaining to do about Sans and Papyrus. Which frankly we need a lot more of already but for now we’re trying to stick to the order of events as Undertale portrays them to be and would most likely happen across all other timelines as well.
With all this in mind what could cause such a need to get out of the underground so quickly? Why would Chara and Asriel succeed this time and not the time they tried in Undertale? and why is Gerson dead? My answer…of course involves our mysterious friend Gaster. Now we have yet to see any inkling that Gaster is alive or dead in this timeline and given that he’s definitely connected to the skeleton brothers i’m going to assume if he had survived that he would be with them. Since he’s not mentioned by Sans (or frankly anyone) as of yet i’m going to say that the event that made Gaster into what he is was in Undertale happened in a different way this time around and somehow Gerson was involved. I’m supporting this with the fact that two of his followers are now normal in this timeline and the fact that Undyne still has her eye. It has been said in Undertale that her and Gerson were close so his involvement allowed for the followers to keep their non Gaster filled lives along with making sure that Undyne never got injured in the eye.
Since Gerson was once a warrior and knows a lot about monster history I would think that having his involvement would mean that the event that made Gaster in Undertale probably was much more of an emergency in the DeltaRune timeline and required the aid of an experienced human monster war veteran. There are also a lot of strong theories that Gaster turning into what he is involved the core so i’m going to guess that since the monsters got out early, this time the event that made or caused Gaster to change resulted in a core meltdown. This would make it easier for Asriel to attack the humans of the surface rather then take their blows since otherwise all monsters would be doomed to die if the core was going to erupt, die, meltdown, etc. This could also explain Kris since Chara’s spirit could latch onto Frisk..so who’s to say Chara didn’t attach to Kris after they separated from Asriel? Or Kris is one of the human’s Asgore killed and Asriel infused Chara into Kris’s dead body before they left the underground? Hell Chara might not have even died this time and their real name could've been Kris all along in both timelines and Chara’s just kinda a place holder name (like Character) as they may have forgotten their real name after dying. But that's all just wild speculation with no evidence. We’ll hopefully find out more later. (Going off from the beginning say Asgore did get 7 human souls early. This could also explain why he did it so soon. He took Toriel’s advice of just using a human soul to pass through the barrier and then come back with 6 more since everyone would die otherwise. Which would explain the divorce but again I still like to think that the Delta Rune prophecy still came true some how).
In conclusion I looked way too much into this and I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and opinions going forward. This is just how I interpreted all of these elements of DeltaRune and hopefully we’ll know the full story soon enough :D for now I await this chapter 2 and hopefully it’ll bring more answers.

on deltarune
Okay, holy hell, I can’t start without saying that, quite frankly:
I loved it.
The music, the visuals, the new characters, the evolution of the battle style - it still retained so much of what I loved about Undertale, yet pushed further/evolved to suit this game.
I was nervous, admittedly, at the first battle - honestly, I’ve never liked team management RPGs too much because so often they get tedious. This, though? It was the perfect balance, and with the shifting team dynamic throughout the game, it really enhanced the story and added to it, rather than being a tedious distracting!
I also have to immediately say how much I loved the Dark World. The designs, the music, the uniqueness of the characters - seriously, Toby Fox did an incredible thing. This doesn’t feel like The Underground 2.0 - this feels like a different place, with beings that are different.... yet their attitudes and interactions still have that freaking charm and depth (even in minor NPCs) that I love about his style of storytelling.
Also, Ralsei is fluffiest best boi, I’m weeping.
Okay - I’m going to save the majority of my gushing over the team & team dynamic in the Dark World for another separate post, because given how much everyone is freaking out, i want to jump right into the meat of it:
Thoughts & Theories
First off... Do I think that this is Undertale 2: the Sequel?
No... but, also, kind of.
I do not think that Deltarune is in any way a direct sequel to Undertale. I especially strongly feel that it’s not an accurate take away to say this is ‘erasing the canon of Undertale’ or ‘destroying the characters/messing with what I love about them’.
I absolutely believe that this is, very literally, an alternate universe to the one we know and love in Undertale. The evidence is everywhere, especially once we return from the Dark World. The characters are nearly all there (and then some), and all the familiar ones carry the same personality and traits that make up the core of them, but the relationships, the context they’ve lived is different. This makes them different people in many ways- hell, with how widely accepted AUs became for the fandom, this should be nothing unfamiliar - but I think a lot of people are wildly thrown off by the fact that Toby Goddamn He Sure Did That Fox legitimately made AUs canon with this game.
Hell, the world of Deltarune seems to even give us the detail that The War (between humans and monsters) never happened here! There’s no hints of it - while the town seems to be almost entirely monsters but for Kris (presumably adopted), there’s no mention of some past sealed in the Underground (or the relationships/bond formed from such an experience), and frankly it doesn’t seem like there’s animosity between monsters and humans, either.
So if it’s not a Sequel™, what is it?
Deltarune is exploring a new theme, using familiar characters, a familiar setup, which in my mind makes it all the more powerful-
Namely, I believe Deltarune is taking two main characters/’entities’ from Undertale as it’s core focus-
‘Chara’ and Gaster.
Why do I think ‘Chara’? (and why the quotes?)
This, from the end of a No-Mercy Route:
and once you select ‘Erase’:
(see too, the fact that if you do a full Pacifist ending after a No-Mercy run, the post-credits include ‘you’ waking up in the middle of the night, and the ‘Chara’ face and familiar red glint occurring.)
Deltarune is a natural ‘evolution’, a follow-up to this specific moment, this concept.
Especially, especially, I note the phrasing ‘this pointless’ world’-
because a major theme of Deltarune (Chapter 1) is the idea that your choices have little impact on the world.
This is in direct juxtaposition to Undertale’s them of ‘choices matter’ - hell, in Deltarune, the ending is damn near the same in the Dark World even if you fight every monster - you can’t even kill any of them, because they run away, scared of you.
So, Deltarune’s theme - so far, your choices... don’t matter.
I’m not here to conjecture without proof - the fact is, this is Chapter 1, and we just don’t have all the details, not even close. We don’t know Kris’ origin (adopted, almost certainly, but how/why? from where, when there seems to be no other human in this town? are monsters largely separated from humans, or is this town just a case of a concentration in population?); we don’t know Gaster’s role (I’ll get to him shortly); we don’t know if the Dark World (and Lightners) are something even whispered about in legend in the world we came from.
(That said, I don’t stand by the interpretation of ‘all that being just a dream’ situation, but again, I’d rather have more info from the next Chapter before I try and conjecture there.)
We see in the beginning of the game something that the weight of doesn’t really hit hard until after it all- Kris, when facing the mirror and checking it, gets the flavor text ‘It’s just you.’
Naturally, at first playthrough, this largely just seems like a callback to the mirror text in Undertale, and a minor insight into Kris’ personal self-value - with the ‘just’ seeming a little sadly self-deprecating.
But after you’ve seen the post-credits-
Suddenly, that feels more like tired relief.
I don’t want to say for sure that Kris is ‘haunted’ or anything like that, but Kris is definitely not just Kris. The post-credits confirm that without a doubt. Suddenly, they lurch out of their bed - not moving normally, as if something else is... piloting them, for lack of a better term - they look like a freaking zombie, at best... and then they rip their soul out of their body and slam it into a cage. The next moment, we get the chilling red-glint and distinctive ‘Chara’ like expression.
I say this tentatively, but my guess is that Kris, being adopted (though certainly at a young age, given the text about Kris growing up with Asriel) came from a bad situation. Again, avoiding too much conjecture in this post, but there’s a lot of signs that point towards that - and I mean, the symbolism of ‘separating yourself from your heart/emotions’ after something traumatic...? The emptiness of Kris’ side of the room, the way that Kris doesn’t fight back in the beginning against Susie, the emotional distance... Seeming, based on interactions with others, like Kris has been largely reticent or at least distant from others more and more, with the exception of big bro Asriel? That’s a lot of red flags, in my mind-
But it’s more than just having issues from whatever happened in their past (and presumably to their birth parents...), it’s also that either because of or in relation to that, ‘Chara’ has become a part of them, and, apparently, takes over at times. That red wagon, that cage... that’s not new. It’s rusty, there are stains nearby seemingly from it/what it held-
This is why I keep putting ‘Chara’ in quotes. It’s moreover a name for the entity of hate/no mercy that you face at the end of the game, not so much the actual Fallen Child from Undertale.
We don’t know what’s been happening with that, we don’t know how much or how often ‘Chara’ has control - but they’re there, and Kris knows it.
This is what so strongly ties together that theme of choices don’t matter - because that seems to be what Kris feels.
Additionally, on the note of Gaster:
No, we haven’t ‘seen’ him yet, or received.... direct confirmation. But Toby Fox, despite being the greatest troll with the best payoff to have ever lived, doesn’t do things lightly. Hell, despite the overwhelming popularity of Undertale, he’s only ever done a handful of proper interviews, and rarely gives concrete details about anything - if he doesn’t want to imply or say something, he won’t.
But we know for certain that he never does things lightly, and the tweets leading up to Deltarune’s release were all in the style of the ‘Missing Entry’, the DARKER YET DARKER entry - ie, the Gaster entry. Coming from a background of writing analysis and style analysis, this matches to a T (though seriously, you don’t need any kind of background to notice that...) - and furthermore, matches the ‘character creation’ start of Deltarune.
Gaster, wherever, whatever he is, is likely ‘viewing’ all this from his position smeared across space-time... everywhere and nowhere at once. He’s positioned as the narrator in an overarching since - his seems to be the ‘voice’ speaking to you when you game-over, his is what you see in the beginning... I’d bet we’re going to be seeing a lot more, though almost certainly in unexpected ways, in future chapters.
Wrapping up-
There’s so much up in the air, but I feel certain about that much based on all the evidence so far. The fact that a game of this length came out of the blue when only some of us even dared to hope for a small demo from the Gaster Tweets on Oct. 30th... holy shit.
Some people seem to have mixed feelings, but seriously - Toby Fox released a 3-4 hour game (depending on how you played it, that’s about the fastest I’ve seen on average for first plays without rushing), with no Kickstarter, no whisper of it coming out - and it’s only the first chapter of the story. However you feel about that, seriously - this man is an incredible creator, and I couldn’t be more in awe.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to reblog this/add on! I might come back and do some light edits/add-ons as I’m sure I’ll think of something I forgot to say in hardly ten minutes, but anything major I’ll likely add in a personal reblog.
With that, I’ll leave off with one final note that I think no one’s brought up yet in what little I’ve seen on full thoughts of the game:
Anyone remember the Stretch Goals from the Undertale Kickstarter?
Well, under the last, largest one, Toby Fox wrote this:
The “other” game... I can’t tell you anything about it. Its very nature is shrouded in darkness.
Toby Fox, everyone.
Toby Goddamn Fox.

The Legend of Asriel PART 4 | HYRULE CASTLE
now home, chara finds what they weren’t looking for.
Frisk cheerfully waves goodbye to Maddie, who refuses to be charmed by this brat and just tells them she won’t be sticking around to lug them anywhere else. Frisk considers this reasonable, and turns to Chara to ask for further directions to where they’re going. Chara points at the castle in the distance.
“Question,“ Frisk signs. “Why do you expect to find this person in Hyrule Castle?“
“Because he lives there,“ Chara replies, as if that’s the most obvious thing in the world.
“Who is he, anyway?“
Chara takes some time to respond, continuing to lead Frisk through the streets with ease. “He’s the prince,” they finally sign. “As the Hero, I was raised for the purpose of fighting alongside him to defeat the evil destined to threaten Hyrule. We’re practically siblings.”
Frisk squints. “I’ve been wondering about that. What makes you the hero and not some other person?”
Chara wordlessly tugs one of their leather gauntlets off and shows Frisk the back of their hand, where a faint birthmark in the shape of three triangles sits. “This marks me as part of this whole cycle of evil. Asriel has one too, and the other is supposedly on the sealed evil, which only leaves me. The Hero.”
Frisk rubs a little at the back of their own hand as Chara tugs the gauntlet back on. “That seems dumb and arbitrary,” they say. “Who is this evil anyway?”
Chara shrugs. “The story doesn’t say,” they reply. “All we know is that a hundred years ago, the Prince and the Hero raised alongside him fought back a terrible evil and sealed it away for a hundred years, and now the time is up.” They pause. “Well, I hope it’s still only been a hundred years. Again, I don’t know how long I’ve been gone.”
Frisk nods, and the conversation drops. Chara leads them to the castle gates and they try to gain access, but the guards inform them that no one is permitted into the castle to see the prince so “Scram, kid.”
Chara informs them that it’s fine, they really didn’t expect it to work anyway. The bit about no one being allowed is curious, but they don’t know what to make of it yet so, “Here, follow, me I know the best way to sneak in and out of this place.”
What follows is a stealth segment. Frisk gets in through a secret passage and has to sneak through the halls, dodging patrolling guards and servants and whatnot. Chara recognizes some of them, confirming to them that they haven’t been gone that long. They also capture some snippets of passing conversations, maids complaining to each other about how strict “that dodgy scientist” is being and other foreshadowing of that ilk.
The first place Chara leads Frisk is to the garden. Asriel always liked to hang out with them there! But they search high and low between the tall hedges and find no prince. So they head for his quarters, which look far more tidy than Chara has ever seen him— it’s like he hasn’t even touched them for months. On a whim, they poke their head into their own quarters just across the hall, and see them in much the same state. They try and fail to rearrange their pillows into something less eerily neat.
Another conversation passes, and this one really grabs their attention because there’s their Dad— King— Asgore, walking with some masked guy they’ve never seen before. Frisk follows, still in Stealth Mode, and they go down into the dungeons to find a sorta... laboratory... workshop-y.... room. Which Chara is quite sure wasn’t always there, this room used to contain like, training dummies and stuff. Now there’s all these tables and equipment and stuff, and a weird bundle on top of a crate which Chara keeps finding their eyes drifting towards as they follow Asgore into the room. Frisk hides behind some kinda furniture or in a convenient air vent or something, idk, and the two of them listen in.
Asgore and The Dude have a heated discussion of some sort. The dude has Plans and Asgore is a reluctant coward as usual. Several nuggets of information are dropped: First of all, it’s been six months since Chara died. Second, the Queen is missing, having been the one to deliver this news and also Chara’s body to the castle before disappearing off the face of the planet (also with Chara’s body). Third, Asriel is missing, and as much as Chara is upset to hear about that they realize they really should’ve seen that coming seeing as they already checked the two places Asriel hangs out in when Chara isn’t around. Oh, also the dude’s name is Dr. Gaster. Does this qualify as a twist? I don’t think it does.
I would also like to note that Deltarune has very little bearing on Gaster’s role in the story, as we currently have next to no concrete information on how he plays into it. Some minor details are influenced, of course, but just in case anyone decides to come charging in telling me about how wrong I am. I don’t care. This is my au. I can do what I want.
Conversation continues. Whatever Gaster’s plans are, they apparently involve that bundle Chara keeps finding themself staring at. It is an Important Bundle. Gaster picks it up and starts unwrapping it, expressing how Important it is. Asgore agrees that it is Important and that is why he is against it being used for anything because the hero is dead who else could possibly use it, much less in this state.
I then proceed to hold you the reader in suspense for the duration for at least another sentence.
Gaster dumps the contents of the bundle on a bare table and Chara suppresses a shriek at the sight of a million shards of silver metal all clattering together and topped by a blue hilt, carved in the shape of two stylized bird wings.
“When the FUCK did that happen,“ they ask, very loudly and unheard by literally anyone but themself. Gaster and Asgore go on talking, but Chara is too busy forgetting to continue interpreting for Frisk as they leap across the room to look more closely. They have to confirm. This can’t be the Master Sword, right? The legendary sword of evil’s bane? It can’t just explode into a million pieces, right? What kind of a legendary piece of shit does that? It can’t be real.
But the closer they look at it, the more certain they get— it’s very real. The hairs on the back of their neck stand up a little as they reach to touch the hilt, though they’re sure they’ll just pass through like always, but they’re cut off by Asgore slamming his fist on the table. The conversation was still going, after all, and something Gaster had to say made the king mad.
“I will not have you insinuate such things about Chara,“ Asgore says. “They were as a much my child as Asriel. You cannot possibly say they were any type of villain!“
Gaster dips his head. “Be that as it may. The fact that the sword was rendered in this state. After their failed attempt to retrieve it. Indicates they were not the hero. With only one other option available...”
Asgore snorts, cloak billowing right through Chara’s body as he turns to leave. “Absolutely not,” he says. “Come speak to me when you can speak of actually sensible topics.”
“...Very well,“ Gaster says, and Asgore vanishes out the door. Somehow, he manages to look baleful even through the odd cracked mask he’s been wearing this whole time.
He remains for a few minutes longer, carefully re-wrapping the pieces of the Master Sword and setting them aside once more. He examines some of the machinery, prods a few things, then leaves as well.
Frisk pokes their head out from their hiding place to give Chara a dry stare. “Mind filling me in?” they ask, getting to their feet. “You only translated the first half of that conversation, I had to guess at what they were talking about after that.”
“My apologies,“ Chara says, perching on the edge of a table with a casual smile. “I had deemed the rest of what they had to say so utterly banal, I was sure you’d be just as bored as I was.“
“Bullcrap,“ Frisk says, leaning around them to look at the bundle. “You’re way more awesome at interpreting than that, something got your attention. What was that, a pile of daggers?“
“A broken sword, actually,“ Chara replies, smile growing strained. “The sword I was meant to acquire, actually. You may recall I mentioned it?“
“Vaguely,“ Frisk says. “Anyway, conversation?“
Chara shrugs helplessly. “I was sorta distracted, sorry,“ they reply. “I think that Gaster guy insinuated I’m not the Hero and Dad got mad, which he should because obviously I’m the Hero. I’ve been the Hero all my life.“
Frisk remains skeptical.
“Anyway we definitely shouldn’t stick around, that guy could come back at any minute,“ Chara says, hopping to their feet and trying to look like they’re not on the verge of a panic attack. “Grab the bundle and let’s go.“
“Wait, why do we need the bundle?“ Frisk asks, picking it up. “It’s just a bunch of hunks of metal now, right?“
“I dunno but it’s definitely important,“ Chara says, bustling them out of the door. “Now come on, nearest escape route’s that way.“
More stealth, but this one ends in Frisk getting spotted by a guard. They attempt to flee, but luck is not on their side as they get surrounded. Gaster shows up, being basically in charge of everything right now and naturally curious about the sudden cries about an intruder. The guards part all dramatic-like to let him through and he peers at Frisk, musing about what a child from the desert is doing all the way up here.
Then he notices the bundle tucked under their arm. They attempt to turn their body to hide it, but Gaster has already seen it. “Would you care to hand that over?” he asks, holding out a hand. “It’s quite important. Not the sort of. Thing. Petty thieves have any use for.”
Frisk narrows their eyes, taking a small step back, and Gaster tuts. “I had hoped. You would listen,” he says. He jerks his head at one of the guards. “You. Retrieve that package. Mind their blade. Whether they know how to use it. I imagine it would sting.”
The indicated guard steps forward, reaching for the bundle, and Frisk draws back again, indeed going for their sword. There’s not very far they can go, though, and no way they could win this fight, so they prepare to give up the bundle.
Chara has other ideas, though, and as the guard touches the bundle they lunge, hands passing through the fabric and wrapping around the broken hilt— wrapping around it, they realize, not merely pretending but actually touching it— and something surges through them. And then a fraction of a second, it surges out of them in the form of a blinding flash of golden light that sends all the guards reeling, eyes burnt as they grope around wildly and raise their voices in an attempt to figure out what just happened.
When the spots clear from their vision, they find the weird child is gone, and the Royal Scientist merely staring at the spot they just vacated with his mask as unreadable as always. And a short distance from the palace (but growing further with every moment) Frisk runs full-tilt away from the window they just scrambled out of, bundle clutched tight to their chest and ghost drifting along after them.
“I told you it’d be important!“

What might a Bandages Pacifist ending look like? (May or may not need consolation from CaitieLou's version).
@caitielou-askew, YOU HAVE OUT-ANGSTED ME! THIS MEANS WAR!
(It’s kind of nice to be thought of as a somewhat-fluffy writer, after six months of writing It’s Raining Right Here …)
(Also, just to note, any differences between my universe and CaitieLou’s are not a criticism of her stories or interpretations. As I said in a previous ask, she and I have different stories and different interpretations, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Plus, the Bandages scenario is different than Handplates: Into the Light, so there will necessarily be differences in the outcomes. On top of that, I’m trying to be a bit happier for the sake of anon. ;) )
Anyway. XD In my Bandages universe, as in CaitieLou’s, Gaster doesn’t fall into the Core, which means that he is around when the human falls. Which, of course … complicates things. Because unlike a lot of monsters in the Underground, Gaster doesn’t just have a vague sense of “humans are enemies and we need to capture them.” He actively hates humans, and you better believe he’s going to do everything he can to stop the human and take their soul, even if they show no sign of wanting to hurt anyone.
However, there are a few other things that I imagine would have changed. First, I don’t think that Alphys would have done the Amalgamate experiments. After seeing what Gaster did and how far he went to get them out of here, she is much more careful in her own studies - almost painfully careful, because if Gaster can fall that far while trying to help monsterkind, maybe she could, too. Asgore is also less likely to give Alphys the “see if you can get us out of here” assignment, after seeing what happened with Gaster - on top of that, the whole system changes after Gaster, so that the Royal Scientist doesn’t have so much unsupervised freedom. Alphys is totally okay with this, even if it’s a pain to do more paperwork to document her experiments.
The big difference in this is … no Flowey. So how is the Barrier broken without Flowey? I have no idea. XD But Frisk is determined, and though it might take longer, they would find a way to set everyone free.
So what about Gaster going after Frisk? Well, he would certainly try - but I don’t think he’d be allowed to do so freely. By this point in time, Asgore has likely lightened up on Gaster’s “imprisonment,” and he is occasionally allowed to roam the Underground freely - as long as he stays far away from Snowdin, where the boys live. But once it becomes clear that a human has appeared, Asgore immediately insists that Gaster stay at the castle. He knows what Gaster will try to do and he is not going to allow him to do it - especially after what happened the last time he tried to “take the burden from Asgore.” On top of that, after seeing someone else torture children to break the Barrier, Asgore is … even more reluctant to kill the final human himself.
And it’s not just Asgore who’s questioning themself. Guess who else was really determined to free monsters and has now seen the results of someone else who is willing to do anything to break the Barrier? Undyne. Though she would probably still try to capture Frisk, at least at first, she can’t help but think of Sans and Papyrus every time she sees them - and she can’t really bring herself to hurt them.
Meanwhile, Alphys is even quicker to sympathize with Frisk than in canon, and helps them along the way, deactivating puzzles and stepping in if things look bad.
So Frisk has got Undyne and Alphys on their side from early on, as well as Sans and Papyrus (and probably Ruby and Allandy - even though Sans and Pap are grown and have likely moved out, they still spend a lot of time together). And all of them know, to varying extents, that Gaster will be out to get them. In canon, pretty much everyone thinks that Asgore will spare Frisk - but now, they’re pretty dang sure that if Gaster gets ahold of them, he won’t spare them. And they’re not going to let Gaster hurt anyone again.
So it’s Gaster up against all the friends Frisk makes, with an Asgore who is even more hesitant than before about killing humans. Gaster’s strong, and he might escape his so-called imprisonment to go after them, but he doesn’t stand a chance against all their friends.
Which leads to Frisk staying in the Underground peacefully for however long it takes to break the Barrier, while Gaster glares and grumbles about it, then all the monsters eventually moving out to the Surface.
… including Gaster.
Who is not going to be at all happy about living alongside billions of humans, but is going to have to deal with it.

Post-Pacifist Undertale headcanons
So there is a story coming this week and it’s gonna be Undertale but I need to finish up the ending. Today I was thinking about headcanons for the snippets I’m writing since it’s post-pacifist and there is so much up for interpretation. I’d also like to preface all this saying there are lots of cool ideas and pairings out there so I don’t want to come off as “anti-” anything, alright? Headcanons under the cut (Might post more if I think of them or people ask about specific things):
GENERAL
It didn’t actually take that long for humans to come around to the existence of Monsters. Granted, there are always going to be those who are prejudicial, but things went pretty smoothly! Part of this is the many, many children who absolutely lost their minds at real monsters. I mean, oh my god the kids alone who grew up with stuff like “Monsters, Inc.” or “Lilo and Stitch” who would beg their parents to hang out with the new friends.
Mettaton, when not on stage performing with Shyren and Napstablook, is sought-after as a fashion consultant. Has been on talk shows all over the world.
Monster Kid is studying to be a teacher at Toriel’s school. His cheery personality is very popular with kids.
Grillby’s is more successful than ever Aboveground. Many humans think his fire room is one of the coolest things to exist in a bar.
Frisk and Sans ran into Nice Cream Guy and Burgerpants at a restaurant a few years post-pacifist. BP immediately got flustered and said it was not a date. Sans pointed out no one asked if it was a date. NCG just laughed and held BP’s hand. More flustered speech ensued.
Frisk
They never officially chose a specific gender to identify as. Anyone who tries to give them shit about it will be given hell.
As a child played dress up with Mettaton frequently.
Frisk is really lean and muscular from physical training sessions with Undyne. Can and has broken up fights by trouble-makers.
Not always the best student because they are always seeking out adventure in the great world. Is a little lost in what they want to do for the rest of their life, but who isn’t?
Frisk went through an edgy teenager period where they’d say things such as “you’re not my real mom!” to Toriel (and then would immediately apologize after Toriel would start to tear up).
The skelebros
Papyrus, lacking a royal guard to join, volunteers EVERYWHERE. Animal shelters? He does the jobs no one else wants to do. Bake sales? Guess who made the best brownies in town. Reading to kids in hospitals or senior homes? The dude has entire collections of books to bring. He’s well known in town and everyone pretty much adores him.
Sans returned to his true calling: science. He works with Dr. Alphys as well as a whole team of scientists in a lab. Although some days are still very difficult, he’s doing a lot better emotionally. On that note, he has begun his own research into the disappearance of an old colleague. If Frisk could help release the monsters from the Underground, anything is possible, right?
Papyrus may be naive, but he knows a lot more than he lets on.
Toriel and Asgore
After some convincing from mutual friends, the two went to counseling together to discuss the loss of their children. Lots of things were said on both sides that needed to finally be let out.
Toriel has never completely forgiven Asgore for the death of the children who fell. Over time, however, she’s allowed herself to move on and let go of the anger.
While there is no specific definition of their relationship, the two now live together and seem to be very close romantically. Yet, it’s still not as it was before the events of the game.
Sans and Toriel are ALWAYS texting each other god-awful puns. If it’s a particularly good one, Toriel will show it to Asgore for a good chuckle.
Toriel’s school is particularly popular for disabled students because of Monster’s natural inclination to not even bat an eye at the many differences of others.
Alphys and Undyne
Undyne runs a local gym that teaches self-defense. Also does classes involving spear-weaponry. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), the spear class is not as popular as Undyne would like it to be.
The two totally go to anime conventions in full couple’s cosplay. They have won several competitions.
Alphys is a pioneer in research on the possible uses of magic in combination with technology.
While Sans doesn’t know it, Alphys is completely aware of his project to figure out what happened to W.D. Gaster and the others. She helps in whatever ways she can, but so far hasn’t had the courage to tell him she knows.
They got married a few years after going Aboveground. It was a gorgeous ceremony and when they read their vows to one another, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
