Shut Up and Dance with Me

brief summary: you’re jamming out to your favorite upbeat song, and neville interrupts you.

[no mention of y/n; neville x you, just fluff!]

It’s been a boring type of day. You’ve been drowning out your professors’ voices and just barely being able to understand the work. It wasn’t tough, but it wasn’t easy either. It was just.. meh.

You decided to bring a positive energy to yourself, managing to play your favorite, upbeat song that always seemed to pick you up when you feel down. The melody drummed in your ears, limbs moving as if it were second nature. You were dancing, having a blast, and smiling as wide as you could.

Your roommates weren’t around at that time, all off to either study or goof off. This was perfect, music blasting throughout the room with nobody to bother you.

Neville Longbottom, on the other hand, was desperately searching for you. You were his plant buddy, always accompanying him while he watered and showed love to his plants. Although you might’ve been slightly allergic to some of them, you still made the effort to hang out with him.

Today was different. You weren’t in your normal spots, and he didn’t have a clue where you could be. That was until another student uttered your name in their conversation. His ears perked up, dog-like as he listened intently. Loud. Music. Dorm. House.

Perfect. Neville made his way through the hallways, watering can in hand, and a smile touching his face.

Hesitant hands knocked briskly on your wooden door, loud music muffled behind it. Neville didn’t get a response. He knocked again, harder.

Nothing.

His fingers wrapped around the knob and turned, no lock keeping him from going. His head peeked through a small crack, a mumble asking for permission to enter. “Hello?”

But his words were lost in the music, and so were you. You were dancing, good and bad at the same time. It was a rather strange sight but a silly one at best.

Neville chuckled softly, closing the door behind him when the complaints got loud outside. He tried to wave to get your attention.

You were singing along, stopping your movements while you caught your breath. Your eyes met Neville’s and, for a moment, you didn’t give a damn about what everyone else thought. Just a couple words left you, loud enough to be heard.

“Just shut up and dance with me!”

Your hands took his, the watering can long gone on the floor. Some water dripped out, but neither of you were paying attention. Neville and you spun around, jumping, eyes vivid and joyful. He couldn’t find it in himself to remind you why he came.

Your favorite part came on and he noticed as you took a big gulp of fresh air. He watched fondly as you sang, smiling a bit brighter than he had first done. You were quite the picture to admire.

You should’ve asked why he was there or what he needed, but all you needed in that moment was to feel happy. To dance and sing your heart out. To have someone there to laugh with. And Neville couldn’t really complain about that alternative. No matter how much he loved his plants. They could wait.

And so? The two of you danced and partied till your legs were shaking.
