Now that it's spring I can partake in one of my favourite mindless, relaxing activities: pulling weeds.

Right now I'm really into plucking summer cypress sprouts.

Daily Ramble - 24th August 2024

My walk today didn't take me very far since I was busy with other things, but on the way to the shop I was happy to see the weeds have colonised this space where a tree used to be, turning it into a natural plantpot.

Also had a good look at the bees enjoying the shrubby cinquefoil (top left) planted in a little garden, and also more black nightshade (top right).

I really love how this turned out— this is my most detailed piece so far!!

She’s supposed to be (more or less) the demon of autumn. I mostly tried to communicate this through the flowers on her head. They all bloom in autumn, mean decay or death, or both. I also purposefully chose some with more positive meanings— such as strength or longevity— to represent the idea of hope to make it through the cold weather and into the spring. If you’re wondering, the flowers are: snapdragon, sage, poppies, and shrubby cinquefoils.

These meanings are probably not very accurate, but I tried to get them correct while still matching the color palette, which I had already decided on.

I also tried my best to make the gold something more magical (can’t think of a better word right now). I like to imagine that the gold jewelry represents prior commitments that she’d made, with gold swirling up her arms as if it’s magic trying to escape from just under her skin (fur?). I was a bit stupid when making the swirls because I didn’t try to dilute the color at all, and instead just put watercolor on top of it, for some reason. It ended up staining my hands every time I touched them for a bit too long.

I also had to buy a gloss for this, so I really do hope it looks good :]

I unfortunately couldn’t find any images of it without clay, but there’s a crude foil base underneath! The pics here go from June 15, 2023 - July 17, 2023 (aka today)

Oh, and if you’ve read this far, thanks! I haven’t come up with a name for her, as she was originally a pre-established character of mine, but she’s become her own thing, so could you give me some suggestions?
