Very random question - in Big Boogey Adventure, how come the Billy robot has a cool 3D model that only gets used in one shot in the cold-open? Was it planned to be used in more shots but it was decided that just drawing it for the rest of the movie would make more sense?

To save money, studios will often make you use two or even three overseas studios or the same time. The idea (I think) is that you're getting some time from an "A" or "B" team at an "A" studio, and those episodes will help hide the "C" team from the "C" studio's work. Whatever the reason, the process makes quality control more difficult than it needs to be. Usually within an episode or two, you know which studio is going to be working for you and which is just going to make everyone's lives harder.

For Grim & Evil, we used Digital eMation for Evil Con Carne. ECC was the "middle cartoon", and therefore got less focus so I'd given that show to eMation almost in its entirety. They were an unknown quantity and I wasn't sure I trusted them with the main act, but over time they put out the best work. By our third season, I had eMation take over entirely.

eMation was hungry and eager to show what they could do, and that sometimes included surprising me with little treats. Since eMation started as a digital company, they had a solid 3D pipeline when we started working together. The Billy-Bot was something that eMation chose to do, and I thought it was cool so we kept it.

Our relationship strengthened, and eventually I even asked them to build some 3D models for Underfist's action scenes.

Nier Automata: Short Story Long

I honestly probably should’ve written about this in chapters, as I haven’t consistently been reading it, but last night I finally finished it! (Bookmark is also from ShiyiStudio on Etsy)

I’ve really enjoyed this book overall, I loved the short stories. Every chapter is a different story, perspective, of either characters in the game or entirely new ones, but it adds to the world building and can stand alone. A lot of it is tragic, like the story of the Healer type with the Pods, which is one of my personal favorites. I enjoy the themes as dark as they are.

Cats can’t see well up close! But anyway very long mildly funny story.

I found a smol (like, maybe 8 weeks old) kitten howling away under the shed in my back yard. Well fuck, I thought, now I gotta rescue a kitten.

I spent several days trying to coax it out from under the shed so I could grab it. I never saw signs of a mother or any siblings, and it also didn’t seem feral. It was scared of me but not, like, so terrified that it wouldn’t come close when I meowed at it and brought food.

One night, I brought out some food and was again trying to slowly coax the kitten far enough out from under the shed that I could grab it. I decided to put some of the dry food on my hand in hopes that I could slooooowly pull back and lure it out.

Except I forgot the whole “cats can’t see close” thing and also the fact that it was quite dark even with my flashlight. So the kitten took a couple pieces of food from my hand and and then, to both of our horror, CHOMPED the end of my finger.

(Cue me apologizing to the kitten for scaring him and letting him know that this mistake was entirely my fault, not his.)

Unfortunately, his lil unintended bite broke the skin, meaning I had been properly bitten by an unknown outside cat that very likely had not received vaccinations yet. One of my best friends BEGGED me to please for the love of god call the health department to check if I needed to get rabies treatment.

I did end up catching the kitten after a few days, getting lots of scratches and mosquito bites in the mix, and kept him in my cat carrier and in my bathtub overnight before bringing him to the local shelter. Once I was able to pet him he purred SO LOUDLY and was such a sweet lil thing. The shelter named him Biscuit and I have no doubt he was adopted quickly because he was very cute and sweet.

I did call the health department after bringing the kitten to the shelter, and they were able to have the shelter keep lil Biscuit in quarantine for 10 days to be sure he was rabies-free. The likelihood that he had rabies was admittedly extremely low (there has not been a reported cat or dog case of rabies in my state since 2000).

But for those 10 days let me TELL you I made so many jokes about having rabies. It would have been very unfortunate if it turned out I *had* been infected, but honestly the jokes were worth it.

i feel like not enough ppl are factoring in the cultural clash between laios and shuro and the many micro agressions shuro faced while being in their group. literally the name 'shuro' in itself is one

his name is toshiro 😭 lets also not forget that he has his own communication issues, in the opposite way that laios does- thats literally a factor in their argument, that his envy for laios's ability to express himself sincerely manifested as part of his distaste for him.

ig all this to say like, was their fight heart wrenching, especially when reading laios as autistic? absolutely. anybody whos ever been in laios's position knows how much it hurts to realize someone you thought was your friend doesnt actually like having you around, especially when they didnt tell you and you had no way of knowing due to not understanding their cues. but im begging yall to step back and see the nuance of this situation cause im gonna be real a lot of you are kinda just brushing over it acting like everything is toshiros fault and that hes a terrible person when in reality hes an average guy who really, really clashed with laios and it led to a very long misunderstanding due to their supremely opposite methods of communication. even laios and toshiro, after letting everything out in their fight, were able to come to an understanding and start a foundation for an actual friendship built on better communication

ok yknow what Edit: i shouldve made it even more explicit at the end of this post, i hadnt thought i would need to since i started the post with this, but i think a few too many people are missing my point so i just wanna clarify. i shouldnt have said 'really clashed' and left it at that because yeah they did, but it wasnt just their opposite methods of communication, it is also very much that toshiro was experiencing microaggressions via laios. it may have been unintentional on laios's part, but it still happened and wore him down, made it harder for him to communicate on top of both the more subtle social cues that he was raised with and his own communication difficulties. i also want to say that the fandom reaction to toshiro and the complete ignorance of this point is also racist tbh or at the very least ignorant. i understand that the anime did not cover this panel, and neither did the manga, as this was an omake, but im gonna be real with you guys. there are enough context clues within the story to clue you into this. if you didnt pick up on it thats ok, but i think this is a good lesson in picking up subtext in the stories that youre watching and/or reading. kui shouldnt have to explicitly say 'by the way laios was racist to toshiro' for this point to be understood, and at the very least, when the author portrays a character in a sympathetic light (as kui clearly does) it should make you question Why they are doing so and what makes them sympathetic, rather than youre immediate and only reaction to be 'well i hated what this guy did/said so i hate them and they suck'. idk exactly how to finish this, just. idk. question your biases and gut reactions to things you see in media and stories, and think about whether or not theres subtext that youre missing.

The problem with her was that she didn’t have a specific persona, she had no type and couldn’t be anyhow defined. Was she boring or was she crazy? No, even those adjectives are definitions: boring people are at least boring and crazy are at least crazy. But she was featureless, an absolute void.

You know, if there is a casting, there are always specific details about roles, types that are sought after. The need either a grumpy old lady who sells vegetables at an open market and doesn’t hesitate to propose judgmental sentences about everything around or an exhausted office clerk longing for any life experiences that will get him out of his job room or at least up the career ladder. Or any other potential character with a set of traits.

But she was just wandering around the city wasting her time and thoughts on some unremarkable intellectual garbage. “Oh, dear, but she’s a pointless stroller!” - you may say. But alas, you’re too prompt to get it. Some days she just lays on the grass, stares at the skies and then goes punching her boxing back for exactly 37 seconds, and then explodes. She has no motivation whatsoever. “Oh, then she might be depressed!” - you reckon. Nah, she is just happily convinced that none of this matters, no effort will be justified, and in the end, well, we’ll die. But that also means we have to rush, she has to rush, and so she rushes to find job. Will she? You know the answer. She is nothing. But she’s also very satisfied with that. Unless she’s not.

Every now and then she just thinks it over: what would her ideal role be if some fancy casting director were to select her. A Russian girl (maybe a spy, maybe a killer). No! Sometimes she felt Romanian, other times she was a kakapo (like a real bird). Yes, maybe, she was simply a bird, so how could anyone apply human characteristics at her. But then, she’d be typing posts on tumblr, so maybe she was a swiftie, not a swift.

Novelas

Me gustaría iniciar hablando del material complementario al juego.

Ya que quedé encantada con él, no obstante, este juego me hizo necesitar respuestas a muchas interrogantes planteadas.

Entre el primer material con el que he tenido contacto, posterior a los juegos NieR Automata y NieR Replicant (que por cierto, jugué en ese orden xD ), fueron las novelas.

Long Story Short

Que narra los hechos del juego, pero esta vez incluye una ventana a los pensamientos de los personajes, que no solo enriquece la historia, sino que también, hace que muchas cosas sobre los personajes y sus reacciones sean más entendibles y nítidas. Hablaré más de ella a fondo, en una entrada a parte.

Short Story Long

Esta novela está dividida en varias historias cortas, apenas la estoy leyendo, así que les daré más detalles después. Pero, entre sus páginas podemos sumergirnos en historias sobre:

P33(Prometeo) una sombra que aparece en Nier Replicant en la zona de la fabrica, junto a una sombra llamada Kalil.

La historia de A2, cuando recién bajó a la tierra, que vendría siendo el episodio 6 del anime, pero más detallado.

Algunas otras historias sobre 2B, 9S, las maquinas y Emil.

Yorha Boys

Yorha Boys es una novela con personajes nuevos, pero narra hechos previos al juego. Es sobre un escuadrón de Yorha con unicamente, modelos masculinos.

Abarca 4 historias:

La primera, habla sobre los prototipos de Laboratorio de 2B y 9S, que son los No.2 y No.9 del laboratorio donde desarrollaron los modelos Yorha. Aquí sí son un chico y una chica iguales a 2B y 9S.

La 2nda es la de Yorha boys, escuadrón M, donde hacen el experimento de poner a 7 androides varones en misiones, es la historia más larga, abarca 6 capítulos. Aquí aparecen un No. 9 y No.2 pero ambos son varones.

La 3era es desde la perspectiva del instructor Black, antes, durante y al final del experimento del escuadrón M.

La ultima historia es sobre unos androides que son cazadores de tesoros, desertores, ellos narran como conocen a Anemone, Emil y Jackass, y sus opiniones después de conocer al escuadrón M.

Por ahora es todo, pero más adelante hablaré sobre cada novela de manera más profundo, pasando por los hechos y los personajes :D
