My boyfriend and I watched the second season of the anime adaptation of Nier Automata. It's nice to dive into this story again, even in a different form of media. I really love this universe and always want to draw something else, even if it's very simple drawings =3

pairing: 2B x gn!reader x A2

tags: friends to enemies to lovers (A2 & reader), co-workers/friends to lovers (2B & reader), rivalry (2B & A2)

2B and A2 are already enemies, due to A2 deserting from yorha, but when the two androids notice that they're both in love with you, things become even more complicated!

A2 had once started out as your co-worker, before deserting. you're one of the few who still remembers how things used to be when you and her were partners, wanting to save the world together!

but when A2 deserted, you got a new partner; 2B. and while you were reluctant to replace A2, you eventually formed a real connection with 2B

A2 already disliked all yorha units, excluding you, but when she saw you with your new partner for the first time, her loathing turned even stronger!

meanwhile, 2B knew all about your history with A2. she was tasked to keep you away from her while you were on earth, but as time passed, that desire became more personal, as she fell in love with you and wanted to keep you away from her biggest rival!

under different circumstances, A2 and 2B maybe could've been friends or find a mutual understanding. but their love for you was what drove a wrench between them and both of them knew this could only end one way; you'd have to choose one of them and abandone the other!

while A2 was the one you missed the most, it was hard to see her. even if you could've had the chance, 2B was always around you, so you couldn't just sneak off and look for A2

the few times you actually got to reunite with your old partner were when she found a moment to steal you away from 2B, during turbulent times. while 2B was busy with the mission, having to take on your work as well, you managed to find a few minutes or hours with A2

A2 makes it very clear how she feels about 2B! she doesn't like her and she tells you to be careful around her. afterall, you don't even know the true nature of 2B…

but 2B often tries to sway you to her side with the same arguments! you might've known A2, but she's a deserter now. can you really claim she's the same girl who was your partner and who you loved? or is that person gone forever…?

“you failed to protect them. again!”

you were woken by familiar voices outside of your room arguing. the one yelling at the other two was A2, who you knew all too well. she had been protecting you and taking care of you for months, before that task fell to the two she was arguing with right now; 2B and 9S.

“we did everything in our power!” 2B stated calmly, which only seemed to anger A2 even more.

“they're the last human alive! adam and eve won't stop at anything to get their hands on them–!” A2 yelled back angrily. “you're supposed to protect them! i thought you yorha androids were so good at that…”

“A2, that's not fair…” 9S sighed, but A2 already wasn't listening anymore. “A2, wait–!”

before he could say anything else, the door to your room slowly opened and A2 entered quietly. she had just been yelling at the other two androids, but as soon as she was with you, her demeanor softened and she weakly smiled at you, when your gazes met.

“you're awake…” she points out, as she steps over to your bed, sitting down at the edge of it. “sorry, i hope i didn't wake you up. i just… wanted to check in on you…”

A2 had this soft side that was reserved for only you. after all your time spent together, she grew protective of you and cared about you, probably more than she ever cared about anyone else. you were special to her and not just because you were a human…

“i couldn't sleep anyways…” you lie, not wanting A2 to feel bad about waking you up. “i didn't think you'd come…”

“are you serious?” A2 sounded almost offended. “after i heard that adam and eve got their hands on you, even if it was just for a short while, i had to see if you're alright!”

A2 paused, quietly looking at you, laying in your bed, as she brought a hand to your cheek and caressed it.

“are you alright…?” she asked carefully.

“i feel much better now that you're here.” you smiled in response, cleverly avoiding her question.

if you couldn't even lie and say you were fine, then you really must be shaken by what happened. A2 frowned for a moment, cursing herself for not being there to protect you. but then she forced a smile on her lips, trying to mimic your brave face.

“i won't leave you again, i promise.” she said, as she gently caressed your cheek. “you'll be safe with me. so… just close your eyes and relax. you don't need to worry about a thing anymore…”

you smiled softly and clearly, A2's words seemed to calm you down. you yawned silently, before closing your eyes. but just as A2 meant to get up and sit down on the chair across your bed, you grabbed her hand.

“stay.” you pleaded.

“i'll stay, i promised. just over there–”

“no, stay right here.” you clarified and gently tugged on A2's hand, pulling her onto the bed with you. “i feel safe when i can feel you next to me…”

if A2 had the function to blush, she'd do so at that very moment. but she could feel her engines heat up, a warm and fuzzy feeling spreading in her stomach, as she slowly laid down next to you.

“a-alright… i'll stay right next to you, i promise.”
