Lily’s chest was rising and falling as she looked at the ceiling. Another sleepless night, plagued by thoughts of stupid Potter.

She felt something weird pool in the pool of her stomach when she thought of how he had victoriously pumped his fist in the air, just yesterday, sweaty and slick and still in his Quidditch uniform, before he had been swallowed by the hollering crowd, crying in delight at the Gryffindors’ win against the Slytherins’.

She’d been dragged to the party by Mary — of course she was. And she might have had too many drinks, but when she saw him standing up on the table, his shirt unbuttoned, his stomach and his chest, lean and toned, exposed, her heart hammered in her throat.

Like it was doing just then, in the middle of the night, when Lily was thinking about him again.

who do you think the marauder's parent's favourite of their child's friends would be?

if we’re talking about only the marauders, i think hope’s favourite is peter (he’s such a sweet, young boy!), and for lyall i’d say… james (james reminds lyall a little of him as a young man, and he likes lively people). euphemia’s favourite is sirius, and fleamont’s is either sirius or remus (he always was only slightly suspicious of peter, although he and james had been friends since forever). lydia’s favourite is sirius (reminds her of when she was his age), and cora’s is james (she gets very good vibes from him).

i think lily and dorcas had a little bit of an academic rivalry going on, but they were pleasant around each other and studied together from time to time. mary had a quiet respect for dorcas, and when they became friends she immediately caught onto their feelings.

"hello, starshines!" james exclaimed, coming in a light jog towards them, still in his quidditch uniform. "mind if i stop by at the loo and come back to you after? we've just had practice, and i don't know if you'd like me sitting down next to you right now." he laughed. "i needa change."

"by all means," regulus started, showing him towards the small bathroom next to the restricted section, "go and never come back."

"a sweetheart you are, reg," lily snickered, placing a hand on his shoulder. "go, we'll be waiting for you here. now, as i was saying, i think these essays are stupid. if professor binns wouldn't be dead, his lessons would probably not be so... dead." she smiled at her own joke. "if he'd he would be a bit more lively during class, and not doze off, i think the essays would be unnecessary—"

"alright, i'm back!" james announced, ruffling regulus' hair with his left hand; the other boy looked irritated, but his eyes gave him away. he put his right one around lily, and kissed her cheek. "what do we have here?"

"regulus' history of magic essay that he is procrastinating from doing, because he thinks it's useless and that binns is a bloody awful thing." lily smiled. "i think he didn't pay attention in class—"

"i did!" regulus gasped, indignantly.

"—and now he doesn't know what to do. but we'll help him, right, darling?" lily asked, elongating the words, leaning agaibst her boyfriend.

"of course!" he grinned. "now, let's see, the gargoyle strike of 1911..."

✒ confessions on a garden swing

james didn't even how he ended up in cokeworth for two weeks of the summer holidays.

no, actually, he did know; lily had invited him because he had invited mary, marlene, and pretty much all of their friends. she didn't want to be rude, that was all. however, why was he alone with her, on a garden swing, in her garden? alone?

"it's nice out here," james said, rather dumbly. he tried not to look at lily too much (they had just started getting along well, the last thing he wanted was to make her uncomfortable), instead keeping his eyes on his shoes, and letting them wander around the garden; irises, dahlias, lilies.

lily nodded, looking at him. "yeah."

"yeah," he repeated, finally peeling his eyes off the grass and looking at her. when their eyes met, she started laughing, and james could swear his heart skipped a beat.

"what's so funny?" he asked, smiling and rubbing his neck.

"you really don't know why i asked you to be alone here, do you?" she smiled, leaning back, looking at her dangling feet.

"no," he admitted, and maybe he should have picked up a sign? maybe he should have realized whatever lily had wanted to tell him? maybe—?

lily leaned forward and pressed a kiss on his cheek, and that was all it took for james to realize, despite his usual obliviousness that seemed to follow him everywhere, in every situation.
