"You begin to get what life is all about. Every incidents, now you realised, was not a coincidence. It was meticulously planned for you to get here. Where you are today. Every road lead you here where you can see it all from an objective point of view. And you get it, you finally got it. You would not be confused no more, you trust the universe unconditionally. You will go where they lead you. There are fears of course and doubts and hesitation, but they would never stop you from vibrating in a high frequency, a vibration of love and compassion.
You used to be scare, all the time. Scare of life, of people in it, of all your choices, was it the right choice?, did i made the wrong one?.Why is everyone against me, why is the world against me?. Now you realised, it was just all karmic, it was designed specifically for you. So you could learn your lesson and move up. Ascend and become who you are today. Wise, at peace and more trusting than ever. Trusting of life, situation and most importantly, yourself and your choices. What you went through got you here today and you will be forever grateful. To the Divine,to yourself and your soul, for leading you home finally.
Poem: Sorrow To Joy by @cant-find-my-name
This big transition came through
A revelation
Firstly, we changed our beliefs
Reevaluate our wants and our needs
What makes us happy?
Who values we are following
Who we are without the things we do
Strip away all the unnecessary
Let go of pointless worries
To truly turn joyful
First, we shifted our energy
In this new me, being joyful
Is very easy
Song : Coming Back For You by Fireboy DML
Well I pray that the universe Gives you way more than you deserve When the tears fall like shooting stars Remember who you are Just look up to the sky you'll see
Well I pray that the universe Gives you way more than you deserve When the tears fall like shooting stars Remember who you are Just look up to the sky you'll see I'm coming back for you

“I can still recall what happened vividly. The memories would never leave me. In a way, it shaped who I am. I identified with what I went through. All of it, the good and the not so good. I appreciates all the good times, all the good people. I wish them well and I know they would do the same for me. I am on a new journey. Honestly, I have no idea where I am going, where am I headed to?.It seem not that important to find out, I figure I'll just start step by step into the unknown. I’m willing to, in a way, I was waiting for this moment. Hoping for it in fact.
It seem I had shaded my old skin. Despited remembering everything that happened. I want to changed. I want to rebuild, I want to become something else. It not because I hated my old self or anything, in fact. It's the opposite. I love my old self very much, but I think it’s just time. Time for me to discover a new side of me that’s different. That the world have never seen before. I am excited, nervous but not scare at all. Which I'm thankful for, I want it to be a fun journey, learning about myself, who will I become. I love every versions of me, the old and I'm already sure that I will also love the new. I guess it's my new purpose in life, get to know thyself again and I'm looking forward to meet me.
Poem : Shooting Stars by @cant-find-my-name
My eyes Shined
They reflected the distance light
I’ve never pray so hard in my life
Wishing for a living dream
Wishing to know
What does all the pain mean?
Trying to find the reason
The universe put me here
And I can’t -
Find the reason
Even as stars shimmered
And shoot down
It is me that has been earth bound,
I can’t go back
I can’t go home
The limit is getting too loud
Going aimless
Wandering about
Maybe it is time for me to discover
Reach deep within me to know
How far did I come from?
And how far can I go?
Song: I'm Still Here by John Rzeznik (Treasure Planet)
I am a question to the world Not an answer to be heard Or a moment that's held in your arms And what do you think you'd ever say? I won't listen anyway, you don't know me And I'll never be what you want me to be
And what do you think you'd understand? I'm a boy, no, I'm a man You can't take me and throw me away And how can you learn what's never shown? Yeah, you stand here on your own They don't know me 'cause I'm not here
And I want a moment to be real Wanna touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong

“It's the people that loved you for who you are that helped you made it. They were a voice telling you not to give up, even when you wanted to. Even when there was no more reasons to go on, you think of the people who loved you. And in a way, their love for you saved you, when your own love wasn’t enough.
But you are still not out of the wood yet, but you're not scare of it no more. You are not scare to be alone anymore. People are your strength and there's experiences of that, but they are also your weakness. The world is more complicated and more than one dimensional and frankly, it's giving you a headache. You just want to live a simple life, a minimalist, no complication, alone in a forest surrounded by nature. You want your wood to turn into a forest. And build a cozy cottage to refuge there when the real world is too much. But most of your life, it's a graveyard of regret and it's full of shadows that you rather ignore. However, no more of that you finally decided. You pray for life to get better, for yourself to get better and in a way, you did not see a way out of it alive.
But in those darkness, you saw light and that light has led you to where the sun shined through. You can see better days," the monsters turned out to be just tree". There are better days, healthier ways to live. And in a way, you want to find that out for yourself. There are alway balance in life, you must remember one thing. When there's darkness, there is also light. When you encounter one the other will also find you. When you experienced one side, don't be scare to face the other. That is how you learn, that you will alway be okay.
Poem: Invisible Force by @cant-find-my-name
Something is choking me
The invisible force
Stronger than what's real
Maybe the scariest thing
Are what we're all thinking
Not necessary the truth
Or what happened
But what could have been,
It's scary to see
What isn't there
The affect is real
But the enemy aren't here
Song: This is me trying by Taylor Swift
I've been having a hard time adjusting I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting I didn't know if you'd care if I came back I have a lot of regrets about that Pulled the car off the road to the lookout Could've followed my fears all the way down And maybe I don't quite know what to say But I'm here in your doorway
I just wanted you to know That this is me trying I just wanted you to know That this is me trying

"Peace will find you, no need to seek it. It's there for you to tap into it, anytime, anyplace. No need to acquired more to get it. The misconception that you need this or that in order to feel whole. It a misconception, you only need one thing child. And that is yourself. If you have yourself, all of you, the dark and light part of you, the side you loved and admired and the side that make you look away. All parts of you deserve recognition. They are you and yours alone, so we got to honour them. Every part of you love you and want your attention and want you to acknowledge them. Let us finally do that. Let us look into the mirror and see ourselves finally.
We are a pure soul, there is nothing wrong with us, no matter what people implied. We are not broken, we are whole. Your soul is intact, it is there for you to go back and connect to it. Your soul is waiting for you to answer its calling. You heard it but you ignore it because life get in the way, but, if you're trying to find that fulfilment. That feeling of, aww there it is the thing I'm look for?, as annoying as it is, it is that part of you that you wouldn't dare look at.
Poem: Surrendering by @cant-find-my-name
Surrendering my sorrows
Surrendering to my flaws
If there is no Perfection
I would be perfect
Nitpicking my visions
Aiming for the best
Left behind a broken body
And an anxiety ridden mind,
Right path don't do that
Peace is not a compromise
Tis a birth right
Just like how everyone will die,
Getting my soul back
Revived my forgotten joy
Everyday supposed to be precious
Not wishing for it to stop
Song : Back To Beautiful by Sofia Carson
They say You're not good enough, you're not brave enough You should cover up your body Tell me, watch my weight Gotta paint my face Or else no one's gonna want me
Why do we say this to ourselves? And even worse to each other? Why do we say this to ourselves? Ooh
We gotta, get back to beautiful Gotta, get back to beautiful All these words, starting wars Over who can hurt who more Gotta, get back to beautiful

"Something is changing, you can feel it. More internally rather than externally. But it's changing all the same. But you're not scare or excited. You are just neutral about it. But there is that part of you that goes, Finally. Because lately, nothing evokes your interest. The desires you had once feel ill fitted. When you realised that nothing really matter, not in a depressing way, but more of a freeing way, You accepted that as truth. You are not satisfied in life, yes, but seeking more things will not do either. You don't want more per say, but there's something missing that you don't know how to put into words. The missing piece might not be tangible, might just be intangible things that you can't hold onto. Which way should you headed towards when your inner compass is kind of confused.
Forward is the way, you will never be lost, as long as you keep moving forwards and not stop. We will not rush either. When we are in a confusing state, we must take our time and experienced our moment fully so that there won't be a lapse in our memory. Memory is a tricky thing, if you think too far into the future or the past as you experiencing the present, then your present becomes filled with memories from the future or the past. So the present moment will never exist. Be careful of letting moments passed you by, it is alright to not know why you are feeling this way. It is alright to be confused or sad or even unsatisfied. It is alright to be in that state in your present because whatever you are feeling at the moment, the present will eventually become a past.”
Poem: Renewal by @cant-find-my-name
There is hope in this world
In words that you said,
Even though it's a lie
You tell yourself it'll be okay
Maybe not now
Definitely not right now
But hopefully someday
You begin to notice the yellow
In dandelions,
How it shine like gold
In certain light.
Now you finally see
The colourful sky
How many shades of it
Changed with time.
How every poem you write
Begins to rhyme
And you know there's a reason for all this
Every little bit of it
So whatever happened
Do not resist
For you shall learn to embrace it
Song : Take A Chance by Flume
So you feel all your powers unfold
Stretching our big wings while the white is turning gold So tell your story baby, don't give up, just let it all go out You're quiet wishing for something now
Will you be the one to take a chance? Have demands, spill your heart Will you be the one to take a stand Make the girls dance Spill your thoughts Will you be the one to take a chance? Have demands, spill your heart Will you be the one to take a stand Make the girls dance Spill your thoughts, will you?

"The unlimited possibility you seek is there for you to tapped into. Your believed is everything, so be careful what or who you believe in. Miracles exist, just look into a mirror and witness one. Look into your own eyes and wondered who that soul is. For it is you, but there so much you don't know about yourself, yet. Instead of feeling bad about that, we should feel excited. For it is a privilege to know thyself. Know your limit and your unlimited possibilities. How many grains of sand on the beach, that is how much your potentials lies. What you can achieved in life is up to how much you are opened to recieved.
My dear, you are magnificent, I wish you can see yourself through my eyes. How you hold on to life, wise beyond your years. Give it everything you got, no matter what that is, is such a human trait even gods envied. Every difficulties you go through know that those got nothing on your willpower to get through them. You are a strong little human, whose hope is bigger then the universe. You believe in the better, better days, better life, better energy for this earth. And your hope/light is what is keeping this planet alive. Keep believing in your power, because you are powerful. And loved by many.
Poem: Home Coming by @cant-find-my-name
My Divine Mother gentle touch
She taught me so much
By being nurtured we grow
By being loved we thrive
By being connected
We become part of the Divine
I know you look at yourself
And see a scare child
Darling, that's quite alright
Cause you are protected, alway
All the flaws should be
Embraced
There's no need for harsh judgment
Gentleness to ourselves is what
We should aim for
Realise what's important
Now look at yourself one more time
And see the true core
Song: Hummingbird by Metro Boomin & James Blake
Hummingbird, summer sun, has it brought my life back? Hangin' in the balance, have you brought the light back? And how long's the night shift? She's sure I get away with Realizin' she might be all I need in this life
When I saw a cold snap, I wasn't with the season Attack was on the airport and outside there was a season In here paper walls are pushing back on you like Eventually you push through, the moment that you realize
And hummingbird, I know that's our time (That's our time) But stay on, stay on, stay on with me And hummingbird, I can never unsee What you've shown me, stay on, stay on with me

Writing Questionnaire 3
i was tagged a few weeks ago but I can't find it now. I had it mostly done in drafts 0_o (I forgot about it sorry) @thatuselesshuman tagged me as well
Short stories, novels, or poems?
Novel length fanfiction although I'm working on my first novel. Short stories are way harder for me as I have to many ideas to keep them short usually.
What genre do you prefer reading?
Basically, I’ll read anything interesting. Usually: mystery, fantasy, grimdark fantasy, dark fantasy, romance, horror, murder mysteries, historical, educational, western (I'm blaming @tragedycoded for that one as my parents couldn't get me hooked on the genre 0_o And @tragedycoded succeeded with DMLS )
(I don't have many genre's I won't give a chance)
What genre do you prefer writing?
I'm game for whatever ideas running amuck right now I'm working on a fantasy series that will probably end up labeled dark fantasy. My next project after the series will be historical fantasy just not sure which of these ideas I'm going for (3 different time periods but they will still have some form of magic in them)
Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person?
Combine the two but usually I have a general idea and let the characters have fun driving me insane.
What music do you listen to while writing?
Depends on the day some days that would be highly distracting others it's either old classic rock or folk music
Fave books/movies?
That's listed in my pinned intro and it's a long list and you can not make me pick.
Any current WIPs?
I'm currently writing the pirate king of deaths redemption book one if the pirate's cursed god series. For fanfiction I have several at different points and I'm posting three wip's that I'm working on as I post 0_o (bad idea but I'm adjusting to it)
If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be?
Comfortable sweaters, jeans, combat boots and a pocket knife holding several books
Create a character description for yourself: ash blonde shoulder length hair, hazel eyes (blue, green, grey) pale skinned and freckled.
Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing?
Not particularly.
Are you kill-happy with characters?
not particularly, especially if you know them.
Coffee or tea while writing?
Water or sweet tea
Slow or fast writer?
Most people say fast but to me, I'm slow but that has to do with the fact that my brain moves quicker than I can type.
Where/who/what do you find inspiration from?
Anything and everything
If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be?
Healer or cryptid in the library spotted by others once in a blue moon as I learn about the new world.
Most fave book cliche? Least fave book cliche?
Most fav: long list but enemies to lovers or psychopaths and golden retriever personality.
Least fav: cheating (I will usually stop reading right there) amnesia (not really my cup of tea) abortion or miscarriage (sensitive subject given some of my relatives histories) major character death (definitely need to be in a certain mindset for that) bullying (personal trauma there sometime I have to back away from a book for a while before trying again.)
Fave scenes to write?
Fluffy dialogue or arguing although bone chilling or traumatic memory flash backs are a blast to write
Most productive time of day for writing?
It depends – day for editing night for writing or that's how it usually works for me.
Reason for writing?
Creativity, I like the fact that other people can connect with the story. Also I have made a few friends via writing and I love that fact considering I have issues making friends usually. My friends might be online friend but they are still friends.

At work we call this “aces in places” so if we are short staffed they know where you’re the best at working
It’s really what position in the restaurant can you clean up the fastest when you’re done for the day
I can clean line in 30 minutes, dining room in an hour, and dml in an hour
My boss is having us all pitch in to do office work while we're understaffed for the spring season, but instead of doling out orders she asked us what responsibilities we'd like to have, enjoy having, or be comfortable doing. It means getting more hours, which I'm kind of desperate for these days.
So I said I'd do anything that involves design (making info cards for clients, designing yearbooks, cropping photos). And she said cool. Done. You get those things, I'll let you know when we need them.
Time came last week where she needed me to do 15 separate info card designs, each with it's own qr code to the gallery, unique passcode, and I had to make it look cute but readable.
It took me about 5 hours. I came up to her desk at the end of the day with a thumb drive. She asked me how they were coming.
"This is them." I handed her the usb.
"You're done already?"
"Yeah."
"How did you do them so fast?"
"You asked me to do a task that plays on my strengths and that I enjoy doing. This is what happens when you put people in roles that suit them."

Always there is laundry.
If I didn't like the color of the curvy yoga Barbie's hair so much I'd reroot her to be Mad Gallica or if the Tango sculpt looked more like her... The idea was to encourage Barbies to leave, not bring more in.
But it might just be easiest to bite the bullet and buy the particular Looks doll I want to use. I just want to fix her lips to make her look more friendly. ~insert pic of Mad Gallica and her bewbs dressed like a member of Barbie and the Rockers here~ I support grown people on the internet sharing their bodies within the TOS of the site they have chosen. And I'm telling kids she's Curvy Barbie. Someone ask her if kids have called her Barbie yet.
The more I think about it the more dolls, or at least heads, can go. India Barbie with the 90s Teresa sculpt can go, I think the one Hollywood Hair has her body so she can probably have it back, any MtM that comes thru these gates is mine.
As much as Svetlana is done being Svetlana I have half a feeling to keep her around as an example of the Lady Paradise if for no other reason to show how if you make the Paradise crochet doll clothes to gage they really don't fit the Lady Paradise.
Or getting Mad Gallica Barbie is a reward for getting rid of 25 others.
I'll look thru the selection of tall dolls and see if there's one with a head I can swap with yoga Barbie.
These are normal thoughts for doll customizers.
Now that Leas sculpt Teresa is done, at least for the rerooting she still needs a stylist, I can pick a color for the Casey sculpt. It would be nice if the Baby Unicorn would work but she looks a bit yellow. Some of the vintage Mod gals are like a yellow tinged nostalgic while others have a slightly peach tone.
Thoughts of the rerooted Living Barbie head going while keeping the pixie cut, to reroot in something other than Titian. All non 90s Skippers not Living or the one I've had forever will go.
I have a Dragon/DML/DID woman I think I will probably encourage to go, she looks enough like Sara Jane from Doctor Who that someone will want her.
My Whos do not lack companions. There's a back story to this, why Four is usually a MLP, and how to this day I still call the one girl Olive.
They're barefoot because I don't like to store them with shoes. I had a melt incident with my PTEs during a move in 2011 and now Mini Cooper can't wear shorts.

@aintgonnatakethis dropped some sapiosexuality on the feed this morning. Bless you, man. Telford is a real one for that.
I have for you today a dialogue exchange between Sullivan and Hofer. For context, they're standing in front of Sullivan's evidence board in his office moving strings around.
"Mm," Sullivan disagreed. "I don't see folks down at the lumberyard being overly frank with me. Hell, the postmaster lied to me every single time I—" "So send Royston." Sullivan startled, and turned to Hofer with a frown. "I must have misheard you," he said.
And @mauvecatfic tagged me for Height Comparison Tag a while ago. I had to think real hard about how tall I want Reeves to be before I unleashed her anachronistic silhouette on the world. Sorry for taking my sweet-ass time <3

Aerospace 3D Printing Market Growth Analysis, Segments, Opportunity, Supply-Demand Scenario and Forecast Period 2019-2026 | Exhibiting at CAGR 22.17% With Share and Demand Worth USD 6,745.5 Million
The global Aerospace 3D Printing market is projected to rise exponentially during the forecast duration owing to the adoption of new strategies such as merger and acquisition, increasing investments in R & D, and others on a worldwide basis. the market is estimated to witness the dominance of North America. In 2018, North America market generated a revenue of USD 652.3 Million. Fortune Business Insights in their report titled, “Aerospace 3D Printing Market Size, Share & Industry Analysis, By Vertical (Printers and Materials), By Industry Type (UAV, Aircraft, and Spacecraft), By Application Type (Engine Components, Space Components and Others)and Regional Forecast, 2018-2026,” projects such strategies to promote the overall market growth.
Information Source:
According to the report, the market is expected to rise from USD 1,359.1 Million to USD 6,745.5 Million with a remarkable CAGR of 22.17% within the forecast period of 2018 to 2026. As per the current aerospace 3D printing market trends, the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) segment will dominate the market, based on printer technology. This is owing to the fact that they are capable of crafting complex geometrical structures.
Increasing Demand for Lightweight Vehicle Parts to Promote Market Growth
The weight of the aircraft plays a pivotal role in the designing and development of an aircraft. Lightweight aerospace vehicles consume less fuel than their heavier counterparts. Aircraft that are technologically advanced are highly fuel-efficient because of the use of 3D printed lightweight advanced material namely parts, overall airframe, components, and others without having to compromise on the aerodynamics and strength of the aircraft. The rise in demand for lightweight vehicle parts from the aerospace industry is estimated to promote the growth of the market in the forecast duration.
In addition, the material made out of 3D printing technology is capable of operating even in extreme temperatures. This is another factor boosting the market for the 3D Printing in the aerospace industry. Furthermore, there is a short supply chain of aerospace components and most of the aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, and Boeing are likely to adopt 3D technology for achieving the rapid production process in their aircraft. This will further help to shorten the supply chain and reduce wastage, and thus prognosticated to accelerate the growth rate of the market in the forecast duration.
However, the market may face rough waters due to restrictions imposed on industry norms and certifications, and limitations on the availability of raw materials for space 3D printing in the market.
Increasing Investment by US Government Officials for Launch of New Aircrafts to Help North America Continue Dominance
Geographically, This is because of the presence of raw material suppliers, large-to-small sized aircraft OEMs, and tier players in the U.S., thus making it the largest manufacturing hub of the aerospace industry in the world. Besides this, the regional market is primarily focusing on upgrading their existing aircraft which are further expected to add a boost to the market. Additionally, the rise in investments by the US government and the launch of new aircraft with the latest technology installed in them will help the region continue its dominance in the coming years.
On the other side, the surge in the number of OEMs and increased demand for tiers, especially in India and China are expected to help Asia Pacific emerge as the fastest-growing region during the forecast period. In addition to that, the development of new products with 3D printed lightweight components is utilized in commercial aircraft. Furthermore, long-term relations with the government contractors and regional space exploration programs are other factors expected to drive the regional market in the years to come.
Fortune Business Insights enlists some of the significant players operating in the aircraft 3D printing market. These include
The Exone Company
Norsk Titanium
Materialise NV
EOS GmbH
Arcam AB
3D Systems Corporation

Discovered Media List (July, 2022)
Hey, mi amigos!!! I had the idea to compile a list of media I discovered in July. I’ll try to keep this going every month. Some lists may be long, others may be short. The list(s) will feature films, books, songs/albums, comics, basically anything. Not all of these will be good, but I’ll still list them and add some notes to them. Hope you find these (or at least something) interesting!
Films
1. House (1977)
Directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi
*Horror Film.
This film isn’t incredible, but it’s extremely weird and charming, and I love that. There are definitely flaws, but it’s a fun watch. There are some tropy characters, but at least it’s not like the hellish Boyfriends Webtoon. Some may be seen as somewhat offensive, but we can look at that idea (which was common back in, and sometimes today) and make sure that the controversial trope doesn’t resurface. Still, I recommend this movie. Was a fun watch.
2. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Directed by Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris
God. This film. It blew me away. The movie is about a dysfunctional family on their way to California for the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. It’s really, really emotional, and the film does an excellent job at letting you get to know these characters. HIGHLY recommend.
3. Weathering with You (2019)
Directed by Makato Shinkai
I don’t have too much to say about this film, which is a shame, because I had a good time watching it. There were times where I felt the pacing was slow. I found myself checking how much time was left. But that’s just me. The backgrounds and landscapes were amazing. I’d recommend watching!!
4. NOPE (2022)
Directed by Jordan Peele
*Horror film.
I’m someone who actually really enjoyed NOPE. It tackled how far we as humans go to capture something on film (or to achieve something). I thought Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer’s performances were awesome. The film succeeded in scaring me. That one scene (wink wonk) messed me up for a few days and every time I heard the audio of it through an open door at work it really resurfaced that fear. I really recommend this film.
5. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
Directed by Stephen Chiodo
*CAMPY Horror film.
Ok. Um. This film is definitely a mess. It’s awful. But it’s FUN. I really love the clown (or should I say klown) designs. I liked the fun gadgets and the cotton candy cocoons, the flying popcorn, and the ever so lovely bigtop burger. The editing is atrocious, the acting is garbage, there are points where you want to yell and shake your screen, but I can absolutely see why people love it. It’s campy. We love that. It would be fun to watch with drunk friends.
6. American Psycho (2000)
Directed by Mary Harron
*Horror film.
Oh my god, people. This film is AWESOME. I highly, highly recommend it. Christian Bale’s performance as Patrick Bateman was amazing. There were some aspects to the movie that I really enjoyed, a couple being the displaying of narcissism with the useless business cards and showcasing that some things are all in Patrick’s head with the editing and certain events (such as the overtly theatrical death of an old woman, to a police car exploding magnificently). Seriously, this movie is awesome. Please watch it.
Short Films
1. My Little Goat (2018)
Directed by Tomoki Misato
*Horror film (?). Not sure if I should categorize it as such, but it is very disturbing.
One of my favorite aspects to this film is the animation. Stop motion!! Really awesome. Don’t see too much of that, really. It’s very charming and captivating, almost eerie and disturbing. Speaking of disturbing, the film itself is exactly that. WARNING, for those that need it, the film implies sexual abuse. Please be careful.
2. Fuelled (2021)
Directed by Michelle Hao, Fawn Chan
Technically, I discovered this short film around its release. BUT. I rewatched it this July and I NEED to talk about it, so I added it to this list, anyway. Shh. Fuelled is an animated short film that covers loss of a loved one as well as revenge on the individual responsible for the loss. The music is INCREDIBLE and aids the amazing visuals during emotional moments. The film makes me cry my eyes out every time I watch it. The animation is incredible and stylistic with its colors and textures to certain objects and environments. The lighting is impeccable and marvelous. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch it. My favorite short film.
That’s all for this month!! I’ve only really discovered films in July, but I’ve been exploring a variety of things (music, specifically) this August. If you guys like this, please tell me!! Hope you enjoy these films if you decide to check them out. Lots coming for August.

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 08/01/2022 (Disney’s ‘Encanto’, Central Cee, Years & Years/Galantis)
Part of my job here on REVIEWING THE CHARTS is just listing songs, and if I’m honest, I’d rather not start the year listing every returning entry, every Christmas drop-out and every notable gain. This rundown will be a short one as a result because I’m pretty damn sure you know what’s going on. It’s January, anything can chart and anything will chart, yet Adele’s “Easy on Me” is still at #1. Welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS!
Rundown
Okay, so there are 11 new arrivals – to be honest, less than I thought there would be, but a great deal of returning entries and gains as a result of the fallout of the holiday season and those residual streams of non-festive music abruptly becoming the only streams. Therefore, the charts essentially do a reset at the start of the year, which is always exciting yet honestly terrifying to cover. I cover the UK Top 75, so naturally, the entire top 13 from last week has dropped out from the chart entirely, including even the #1, “Merry Christmas” by Ed Sheeran and Elton John. There are no songs that dropped out of the UK Top 75 this week that are not in some way related to Christmas, and most of the songs that returned are just here because, well, they’d be here if the UK was majority Jewish anyway, so it’s really not worth my time listing them all. As a result, here’s my compromise: I’ll just note what’s actually interesting, or songs actually reaching new peaks this week. Thanks to New Year celebrations, we see the return of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by the late Whitney Houston at #73. It peaked at #1 in 1987, returned at #20 in 2012 after her passing, and is a damn excellent song so I’m glad it’s here. We see new peaks or re-peaks for the 2021 edit of “Cut Me Loose” by Jethro Heston and Max Marshall at #63, “Money Calling” by Da Beatfreakz featuring RAYE, Russ Millions and wewantwraiths at #50, “The Motto” by Tiesto and Ava Max at #37, “Where Are You Now” by Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott at #23, “Ghost” by Justin Bieber at #21, “Enemy” by Imagine Dragons and JID at #18, “I Wish” by Joel Corry and Mabel at #17 and finally, “Make You Smile” by D-Block Europe featuring AJ Tracey at #15, and honestly, I’m not complaining about much of this. So, what else is of interest? I guess it’s funny that “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers is at #51 and “Blinding Lights” is at Goddamn #39.
I do suppose I deem it necessary to say what the top 10 is, given that this is what we’ll be working with for January’s first hit parade. “Shivers” by Ed Sheeran is at #10, “Do it to It” by ACRAZE featuring Cherish at #9 (joy), “Overseas” by D-Block Europe featuring Central Cee is at #8, “Flowers (Say My Name)” by ArrDee is at #7, “Peru” by Fireboy DML and its remix featuring Ed Sheeran is at #6 (which is great and I hope this sticks around). “Coming for You” by SwitchOTR and A1 x J1 is at #5, which is also pretty great, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” by the Encanto cast (because I’m not saying that Godforsaken list of actors every time) is at #4, “Seventeen Going Under” by Sam Fender is at #3 and as a result of some stupid ACR upset, “abcdefu” by GAYLE is at #2 whilst “Easy on Me” stays at #1. BBC Radio One got GAYLE on the air to discuss the song and the chart before revealing that she was #2 instead, which is a cruel move but one that I hope the BBC takes more often. Just keep getting their hopes up, but it ends up being Adele every week instead.
Well, with all that synopsised, I guess it’s time to cover what will eventually replace all of this... or disappear into forgotten-hit-land as I suspect most of them will. What have you got for me, British public of 2022?
NEW ARRIVALS
#72 – “When I’m Gone” – Alesso and Katy Perry
Produced by Alesso
Katy Perry. The British public of 2022 has elected Katy Perry as its first impression, with Swedish DJ Alesso, who I have not been aware of since the song with Tove Lo in 2014. He’s charted since then, but God help me if I can remember how those songs go. Well, I liked that one song Katy did for the Pokémon album – because that exists – so maybe this’ll be worthwhile too? Some of my hopes flattened when I discovered that it was essentially just an ESPN advert, but for what it’s worth, I like the incredibly bitter lyrics here, all about how Katy is still in her ex’s dreams and that none of their partners will really feel like she did. They’re sold with enough swagger and conviction to work, but I’m really not a fan of the production here, compressing and modifying Katy’s voice to a clipping mess, and placing her on top of what feels like really rote dance-pop. The groove is just non-existent here, with the percussion making for not much to speak of other than flat, factory produce that really does not work for a song like this. The singer has to be likeable in such a bitter track, and if it’s not in the writing, it has to be in the production, and it’s just not here. An immediate comparison that came to mind whilst listening was the much better “Makes Me Wonder” by Maroon 5, and I’m not entirely sure why considering the gap in release, genre and pretty much everything, but I feel like it’s in the same vein and does it much better because of how funky the instrumental is and how incessant Adam Levine is as a vocalist, as Katy on the other hand is perhaps too malleable.
#68 – “TO THE MOON” – Jnr Choi
Produced by Parked Up
I really hope this song title doesn’t refer to r/wallstreetbets or the GameStop short squeeze but given the artwork, I think it’s trying to, so I’ll get all buzz words out of the way: To the moon, rocket emoji, I’m not selling, GME, GameStop, Elon Musk. There, I’m sure that made some degenerate somewhere very happy. This drill song has nothing to do with that event but it does sample “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars, a great song that I’ve talked about before on here because of some other song sampling it. It was so forgettable that I’ve completely blanked on its name. Is this flip any better? Well, it’s got more energy and I do love “sample drill”, where a sweet sample is flipped into a more solemn drill beat. Jnr Choi, however, seems out of place here, as whilst his delivery and cadence would fit on Afrobeats production, he sounds too melodic, almost, even if most of those melodies are hidden in short Auto-Tuned bursts of the same multi-tracked lines repeated to fill up time. Maybe this minimal beat would work with a remix, but as is, I can’t get into it as much as I want to.
#67 – “I AM WOMAN” – Emmy Meli
Produced by Okanobeats
I am woman. I am fearless. I am sexy. I am a bitch, I’m a lover, I’m a child, I’m a mother. We did the faux feminist-empowerment anthem in this same structure in the 90s, Ms. Meli, and it didn’t work out great when Meredith Brooks did it, and I’m afraid this one doesn’t work even as well as that did. I’m sure this has the best intent, but this TikTok-fuelled hit just ends up sounding honestly horrific, which pains me to say because I actually really love Meli’s voice. Sure, it’s a typical smoky indie-girl sound, but there’s a raw and desperate leniency with her delivery that is not flattered with the rough vocal mixing. The faux-organic “rock” production sounds stock as all hell, with those lone guitar inflections sounding like little more than stabs because I guess an actual riff is too scary for pop radio. The songwriting is too linear for its own good, with places wherein you can tell Meli wants to step out of it and explode, but nothing allows her to. There does come an actual riff later on in the bridge that goes nowhere, except that’s not really a bridge, it’s just the result of the first verse meandering that hard into the lost and found. The post-chorus is also aggressively annoying, and the rise in the second “verse” is just stressful because of all the messy vocal layering and what was supposed to be a triumphant victory lap, I’m sure, but sounds like complete garbage. I like how the final chorus essentially resets the song, and that’s pretty much all I’m willing to give this song. If we got into the basic and bizarrely astrological lyrics, we’d be here all day. It reads like nonsense, it sounds like nonsense and ultimately, if it’s helping women motivate themselves, sure, it’s doing a world of good, but it’s bloody insufferable in the process.
#66 – “Make Me Feel Good” – Belters Only and Jazzy
Produced by conor bissett
This is the only song by either artist up on Spotify, and the About page for Belters Only just displays their name and... rocket emojis, for God’s sake: are we commemorating GameStop this week or something? Regardless, this is a house song as I expected, but to be fair to it, kind of a different approach, with soaring strings behind the incessant synth bass and really awkwardly Auto-Tuned vocals from who I assume is Jazzy. There’s a lot of charisma and character in the vocals, yet also a lot of unwilling production completely refusing to give them more than room to breathe, especially in that basic job, giving the songwriting essentially nowhere to go. There’s no anchorage here, so everything meanders and chugs, therefore the whole song feels meaningless and like it has zero impact. It feels like it’s kind of off the beaten path to be fair to it, but with its mechanical percussion, anti-climactic non-drops and just an awkward vocal performance that I assume at some point provides a chorus, it feels more like that “I AM WOMAN” song. Hey, if 2022’s pop music is going to be this bad this early on, at least it’s being interesting about it.
#64 – “30/90” – Andrew Garfield, Joshua Henry, Vanessa Hudgens, Robin de Jesús, Alexandra Shipp and MJ Rodriguez
Produced by Kurt Crowley, Bill Sherman and Alex Lacamoire
Great, a Netflix musical from late 2021 with a cast ensemble track that debuts and guess who it’s directed by? Lin-Manuel Miranda, because there’s not enough of him to go around. Okay, so this film is based on the 2001 musical tick, tick... BOOM! written by Jonathan Larson. I respect musicals and theatre as a whole a lot more than I actually enjoy the form of media, even if I should love the campness and melodrama of much of it. Regardless, much like Disney movies written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, Netflix musicals directed by Lin Manuel-Miranda aren’t going to be my thing and yet they still chart. I have no idea how this song works itself into the original stage musical, which from what I can gather is basically autobiographical, or how that’s appropriated for the movie rendition but I can say that there’s a genuine power-pop edge to this that is pretty cool to hear in a musical context. In fact, it’s a pretty great song with a really cathartic chorus about realising how scary aging is, particularly in turning 30 as the character does here, and this piano-based rock number does do a good job at conveying how quickly time goes, and how terrifying it can be to look back on your youth and realise none of those dreams really can ever come true, and the doomsday clock is ticking, even if it’s a lot further away. I’m surprised by how much I got into this, but for someone who’s favourite musical is that Family Guy episode where Stewie and Brian pretend to be Santa Claus, this kind of makes me want to see that Netflix movie so consider me impressed. This is not the last we’ll have here of a musical song, and not the last we’ll see of Mr. Miranda this week, but it’s probably the best we’ll see of either.
#62 – “It’ll Be Okay” – Shawn Mendes
Produced by johan lenox, Shawn Mendes, Mike Sabath and Scott Harris
Are you sure about that? Well, the song isn’t about his career as it could have well been, and instead is that post-Camila Cabello breakup ballad we all knew was happening. Yeah, so no surprises here, except the fact that this is... really good? I think I’m warming up to this guy generally, but the honesty in the songwriting here is really the driving force to why it works: Shawn Mendes knows damn well that it won’t really be okay, acknowledges the wounded relationship and how the only option for them seems to be to split, creating a narrative of what is clearly a mutual albeit forced, messy and decidedly not amicable agreement that it’s not working out. Shawn Mendes sounds desperate and breathless as he sings this, and can barely bring himself to say the title of the song without stuttering mid-way and resorting to his falsetto. The moment the faster piano chords come in on that first chorus is genuinely pretty magical, so I suppose if I’m touched by this song, I am leading myself into being convinced by this fake relationship melodrama. “I will love you either way” is a genuinely crushing line because it seems hopeless, especially with all of the belting and moaning that surrounds it. We know that Shawn Mendes is gripping onto something that is clearly not there and may not have ever been, but with the layered cinematic rise of the instrumental and all the soft acoustic touches, Shawn Mendes may not know that and as a result, this song comes off as disheartening rather than reassuring as the title tries to convey. The way the strings start to blend before being halted in their tracks by the outro is a great touch from the producers, capping off a surprisingly great song.
#36 – “Sweet Talker” – Years & Years and Galantis
Produced by Galantis and Mark Ralph
Ever forget that Years & Years is just the one dude now? I constantly go to refer to them as a band before realising it’s just a singular guy. Regardless, Olly Alexander teams up with DJ duo Galantis for the latest single from the newly delayed Night Call album, and it feels pretty generic. The vocal layering especially in that first verse is pretty obvious when a take was cut into to replace it with a new one, to the point where it’s actively distracting. That’s about the one thing I recall from this song honestly, as it’s got a pretty sweet drop with all the strings, yet fails to do much surrounding it that makes said drop feel worth the time. Sure, there’s a lot of drama with all the pianos in the verses, but everything being bogged down to that house groove makes it feel increasingly frustrated with how it wants to push itself further than its current state as a rote, uninteresting dance-pop track that I wouldn’t be surprised if Clean Bandit threw away. This is fine, sure, but nothing that I really expect to stick around, honestly.
#35 – “Daily Duppy” – Central Cee featuring GRM Daily
Produced by Cash Cobain and Young Chencs
GRM Daily will often release “freestyles” called a “Daily Duppy” from “rappers” – okay, now that one is being harsh – that are popular in the UK, and if the rappers are big enough, they actually end up being released as singles and that results in them charting, even though they aren’t really songs and are just extended verses, not that that is always a bad thing. Central Cee is having a big moment right now so his two-beat extended freestyle debuted in the top 40, and it’s pretty uninteresting honestly, but what else was to be expected? To be fair to Mr. Cee, he and his producers have definitely put more effort into making this feel like an actual song. The first beat from Young Chencs is a pretty great piano-based beat with a vintage groove and Cee fits on it like a glove. Hell, he references the Popemobile and creates flexes that are somewhat interesting to hear, with more natural charisma than Cee usually has. I particularly like the somewhat gross line where he says that now that he’s famous, he can have sex with celebrities he used to... admire, so naturally he “busts that nut to existence”. The second beat from Cash Cobain is more conventional drill and Cee naturally goes for a more conversational flow that really does go hard but since the beat is so minimal, it doesn’t hit nearly as hard as it could. The one thing that is consistent through both verses is Cee’s fixation on his A&R lady, which is a good bit of continuity, I suppose, though my favourite line in that second verse has got to be “You should’ve seen what we did with snow, had London like we were in the North Pole”, which is just amusing imagery. It’s not that far from Pusha T when it comes to coke bars. This is definitely never something I’d listen to voluntarily outside of curiosity if I saw it recommended to me on YouTube, but that was really only ever its purpose, so I can’t bog it down for that. It’s a good freestyle and I guess for the fans of Central Cee, that’s all that matters.
#32 – “Down Under” – Luude featuring Colin Hay
Produced by Luude
A certain hormonal gecko was pretty happy to see drum and bass hit the top 40, and I can’t say that doesn’t surprise and excite me too, yet to get to the top 40, music has to be commoditised in some fashion. Therefore, this is a cover of Men at Work’s hit “Down Under” that hit #1 in 1981. Colin Hay is the lead singer of Men at Work and was happy to provide his vocals to this drum and bass remix from Australian DJ Luude. Whilst catchy, I always found “Down Under” to be rather dull and undersold. A drum and bass remix should pump the bombast up a notch, naturally, and it absolutely does by chopping that flute loop and pairing it up with some subtle vocal loops before restricting it all under a hard, pulsating bass as Hay’s eerie vocals glide on them with an awkward lack of ease. Then of course, it explodes into a breakbeat rhythm that kind of rips. Listen, anything with a break in, I’ll probably end up enjoying, so I really didn’t know what I expected to dislike here. It improves on the original by making the surreal lyrics feel like they mean something, and Luude’s remix does feel alien enough in its production to sell the exoticness of this “land down under”. Can we make a drum and bass version of “The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats next? Asking for a friend.
#30 – “The Family Madrigal” – Stephanie Beatriz, Olga Merediz and the Encanto cast
Produced by Germaine Franco and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Okay, so I said all I have to say about Encanto last week. To summarise, I have not seen this film, have no desire to, and therefore am completely out of my depth covering these songs. So bear with me if these last two reviews are a bit short because, really, I do not know who these characters are, or who these actors are, for that matter, and I have no idea what parts of the story these songs outline. With that said, this seems to be an introductory song to the family in Disney’s latest, the Madrigal family, with each character having some kind of gift or related magical characteristic, except of course the main character. The instrumental becoming abruptly warped, and the cadence of the performer turning into a fervent rap as a result of her discomfort with not having any magical powers, is a really clever move. It gets that narrative message across pretty well, and through a uniquely Latin instrumental that is really uniquely detailed. The songwriting is pretty fun and the verses can be incessantly catchy, especially with how they interpolate and foreshadow other elements of the soundtrack. With that said, I can’t listen to four minutes of this as a “song”, which is probably a good thing since it’s not a song as much as it is a set piece.
#14 – “Surface Pressure” – Jessica Darrow
Produced by Mike Elizondo and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Come on, can’t “Goofy Goober Rock” chart or something? Okay, so this is our final song this week from Encanto and is actually a solo cut rather than an ensemble piece. This song is about the pressure that the older sister character Luisa feels to live up to the expectations of her superhuman strength, which all of the Madrigal family can relate to due to their magical powers. Would it be too farfetched that this is a metaphor for culture as a whole? Probably, especially since Mr. Miranda has said this is little more than a love letter and simultaneous apology to his sister for the burdens she had to carry as the eldest sibling. The vocal performance from Darrow is insanely impressive here, especially in the bridge, though some of the lower notes feel absolutely not written for her range, and as far as production goes, man, I’ll never get used to Disney trap beats, let alone Disney trap beats that start with reggaeton rhythms. It’s just fine, I guess.
Conclusion
Well, for an episode that I spent way too much of complaining about musicals, I actually found most of the songs from them pretty okay, in an overall mixed bag but generally positive first week of new arrivals. Best of the Week is going to Shawn Mendes of all people however for “It’ll Be Okay”, one of two songs I found genuinely touching here, the other being “30/90”, which I’m giving the Honourable Mention. In terms of the Dishonourable Mention, it probably has to go to “Make Me Feel Good” by Belters Only and Jazzy because at least that was aiming for very little. When your ambitions are as high as Emmy Meli’s were and you fail as spectacularly as “I AM WOMAN”, that’s when you can get Worst of the Week.
Next week, we’ll see how The Weeknd shakes up the chart with his newest record, and who knows? Anything charts in January. Maybe we’ll get three Gunna songs too. Thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week!

Syllabus: Creating Documentary Performance
Course Title: Performance Composition: Creating Documentary Performance PERF-UT 201 (4 points)
Course Description The term documentary theatre is often used interchangeably with verbatim theatre. Theatre scholar Carol Martin would advise us to beware and keep tabs on Documentary Theatre, a slippery little devil which claims to present the truth. Yet, in truth, the world of Documentary Theatre (and Art) seems to be expanding. New works of live Documentary Art challenge the documentary form by loosening the grip of journalistic objectivity and responsibility. Documentary performance now takes on a variety of forms which we will examine in this course.
This course will begin with ways of observing a range of performances (live, filmed, quotidian, and archival). We will then integrate this heightened awareness into an hybridized archival call-and-response. We will have daily in-class creation workshops designed to respond to research and performance materials. Through this process students will learn to integrate research questions and aesthetic performance elements. Participants will engage in documentary writing techniques, performance techniques such as vocal duplication and movement vocabularies, creation of composition scores, and docu-fantasia (a methodology pioneered by Guy Maddin in his film “My Winnipeg” combining personal history, civic tragedy, and mystical hypothesizing), among others. The result of these searches will be cumulative. At the end of this course, students will have created several short-form documentaries.
Participants in this course will come from various performance backgrounds: some (like me) will be based in theatre practice, others will be more comfortable writing, composing music or movement, directing, acting, or filmmaking. This course is designed for much of the creation of our projects to take place in the classroom itself with students sharing their skills with one another as they learn new skills together.
Course Objectives
to become familiar with the field of documentary performance
to develop and deepen investigative research skills
to learn to create performances from disparate elements (learn processes of meaning-making)
to generate “speculative” material from “factual” remains
to move archival materials from the page to the stage (or lens/screen as the case may be)
Requirements
You need a notebook or loose paper. We will do writing exercises that will be edited and presented during class. It will not be possible to participate fully in movement/writing work on a laptop.
You will need scissors and a glue stick.
Please see the class schedule below. Please come to class having completed the listed requirements (read, watched, and prepared performance elements) and come prepared to share your findings and contribute to discussions, workshops, and rehearsals.
There will be four assignments due during the course: a) construction paper photo journalism Using lessons on image composition from Molly Bang’s “Picture This,” recreate one image from one of the documentaries or images we viewed during weeks 1-4 (or an image of your choice). Write a brief but vivid description of the scene you hope to capture. Upload both the original and your version of the image as well as the description. This image is due on February 21, 2021. b) 360 degree video (maximum 5-minutes long) Create a three-minute long 360 degree video of your own living space (use Ackerman’s video for inspiration). Research the history of your living space (What is the history of that land? When was the building constructed? Who owned it? Who lived there?) and then write a two-minute monologue from the point of view of someone you image to be a previous tenant. This is the basis of the performance. You may choose to incorporate other performance elements created in the course thus far (movement vocabularies, musical elements, etc.). The video should be submitted via email on week 5, a 500 word summary of building history including sources is due on week 6, and the final performance is due on March 21, 2021. c) Documentary Étude (maximum 10-minutes long) Seek out your own musical archive (this might be something personal, something you amassed yourself or something you discover out in the world) and using strategies developed in class (ex. haikus, nightstand writings, movement vocabularies) and other techniques learned from docs we’ve seen (vocal re-enactments, karaoke, performance re-creation, etc.) create a live documentary étude to the song or recording of your choice. This étude should include research into the song and, based on that research, some theories we have discussed in class that help analyze your findings. The way you structure this presentation is entirely up to you. Due April 26-May 3, 2021 (exact date to be decided upon by in consultation between students and instructor). d) performance review The final assignment for this class is a 1000-1200 word review of another classmate’s documentary performance. The point of this assignment is to constructively critique a colleague’s work while integrating the texts and theories we have discussed during the course. This is to be submitted to the instructor via email on or before the final day of class (May 10, 2020).
Attendance in this class is critical. Much work takes place in-class and this cannot necessarily be made-up through subsequent assignments. More than three unexcused absences will result in a failing grade. Absences must be excused in advance, please make your request via email. Likewise three unexcused latenesses will count as one absence. Assignments are due on the date specified unless a change is discussed in advance with the instructor.

I wanted to share some of those with you here in case you wanted see more work. You are more than welcome to come to office hours to discuss any works you may have seen (on this list or in your own searchings). Additional performance viewing is not a requirement of this class and is meant solely for your enjoyment.
