"here's one for you greg. do you think if i spoke posh i would have a better career? not better, bigger."
#not to call a celebrity underrated but he just is. i want him in 2 movies and a season of tv a year#though the quality of his filmography is good enough it's silly to complain#yeah this is me craving season two of rogue heroes#jack o'connell#that thing that people can't get past is the same thing tom hardy has btw#shockingly similar people. idk if they would agree but#makes him/them highly compelling on-screen but lord would i not want to be alone in a room with either of them!#he very immediately communicates with his body language a feeling of unpredictability and an experience with and capacity for violence#it's like. a show some men put on. i would assume as a coping strategy for circumstances where they feel threatened or ignored or something#the way he talks about it though makes me think it's no longer intentional and he just doesn't know another way to act#which i have also seen but not talked about in this way#sorry you guys know how i feel about masculinity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and homosociality my number one area of interest

So way back in the day on the original Warriors website, there was an area where you could submit questions about the series that the Erin's would answer and then post the question and answers on a FAQ page. Someone asked about prefixes that the Clans don't use because they're considered sacred, and the answer had been iterations of Moon-, Star-, or the Clan names themselves, so Sky-, Shadow-, etc.
Obviously this isn't true for canon anymore, if it ever actually was (citing here: lack of continuity between the Erins) but I'm curious to know if your AU has any prefixes that the Clan's absolutely refuse to use for one reason or another? Whether they be sacred or maybe they're considered "cursed", like perhaps a particularly evil cat has tarnished the prefix forever. (Such as the lack of Maple- prefixes in canon books post-Mapleshade! Maybe not intentional, but a cool world-building detail nonetheless!)
Stemming from that, do you think any prefixes would/could be turned into insults/curses later on down the line? Basically, what's the culture like for names? My favorite part of Warriors has always been the names, and the Erin's had such a nice thing going until it was tossed out the window. The system you use with Clanmew and all is super neat and I'd love to know more about Clan naming traditions! Also how each leader names cats - idk if it was you or someone else that I follow, but I saw a post talking about how each leader has a distinct way to name their warriors.
(Also small fun fact while on the subject of names, a friend of mine submitted a question asking about who Bluestar's parents were, and the answer was Duskflower and Stormtail. This was a few years before Bluestar's Prophecy was published, so she was very upset over them changing "Duskflower" to "Moonflower" when it did finally come out!)
The Duskflower thing is actually a misconception: What happened was that in a field guide, the Erins wrote that the name was "Moonflower," and then felt that "moon" should be sacred. That's when they started using "Duskflower," until Bluestar's Prophecy came out and they agreed with the editors that the older information should take precedence
(Rare anti-retcon win)
But anyway I have no banned or sacred names! I don't like that concept! Possibly because I am from an old fandom era of 'traditional namers' that just used it as an excuse to bully people and have bad taste. Hawkfrost's name ROCKS MY SOCKS and they all died mad while I'm still here.
My rules with namings is that EVERYTHING must make sense in-universe. So I don't like lyrical naming very much... names like "Friendlyface" or "Empyreanmist" are funny, but I don't see how a kitten would end up with those names unless every cat in their Clan stopped taking their lives seriously
(Or are in WarriorClan. BB!WarriorClan renamings are going to look WILD)
That also means ecologically invalid names get cut or end up being translation quirks. Names like Cypress, Olive, Myrtle, etc.
I don't ban "insult" names either, but I do rule that they are typically ShadowClan. They have a very dark sense of humor.
And yes I am the one with leader naming styles! So far these are the styles:
Bramblestar: terrible. Doesn't consider names beforehand, often comes up with titles that are awkward or unimpressive
Harestar: Reverant and thoughtful, tries to name based on friendships, interests, and quirks.
Mistystar: Names litters according to 'themes,' often sharing suffixes or picking similar ones.
Brokenstar: Only ever gives "cool" names with deadly and strong connotations.
Firestar: Names awkwardly, but genuinely. Surprises his Clan constantly with banger names (Lionblaze) or shockingly uncomfortable ones (Brambleclaw).
Onestar: Names practically, trying to limit suffix repeats and tonguetwisters.
So on.

ngl but I still haven’t read any sally rooney. it started off because everyone seemed to be So Into Her but whenever I read the synopsis of any of her books they just. didn’t strike me as interesting and now it’s almost turned into a matter of principle. idk I think a lot of the gushing over her is people being pretentious and faux-intellectual when I’ve never seen a snippet of her work that made me think “yeah I want more of this”. plus like voice of a generation? the girl did english lit in trinity, she’s hardly the model for 99% of Irish people and I say that as someone who did english and history in maynooth. it’s like everyone wants an Idol so they’ve picked this girl just because normal people “Scandalised” the nation when I’ve read better marian keyes books. anyway as a rural queer Irish person into literature sally rooney is doing nothing for me and for all the times I’ve thought maybe I should give her a chance I look at her synopses and decide I’m better off reading things that actually strike me as interesting and relevant to my experiences, not something that the establishment has decided speaks for people my age
Oh I completely agree with you, especially about her being faux intellectual and pretentious, what I've read of her has struck me as being what a not very well read young teenager would think good writing about complex relationships is in that I think it would be interesting and groundbreaking only if you had never read better books about similar subjects. My other major grievance with her is that she is shockingly bad at getting you to be invested at all in her characters, to the point where they could have both been run over by a train halfway through normal people and I don't think I would have cared. They simply aren't interesting in any way and her novels are very character driven so they kind of just. don't hold up. And when there is some plot it's also incredibly boring. Imo you're definitely better off not reading her work
#her whole ooh look at meeee I went to tcd so I know everything about Ireland also drives me insane for several reasons#hate the little genre of oh woe is me trinity is making me sad literature. get a better university#books#asks#anon#jory.txt

author interview
i was tagged by my beloved @iansfreckles 🧡🧡🧡
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
5, about to be 6! ✨
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
233,543 holy WOW
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Teenage Dirtbag
Teenage Dirtbag: The One Shots
pulling on your threads
The Ginger Intruder
Help Is Other People
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i don’t usually and i feel fucking awful about it. i don’t really leave comments either, but i’m getting better about that 🥺 i’m way better about answering asks, but even that’s hard sometimes because i don’t wanna put spoilers on people’s dashboards unintentionally. idk, i have a lot of anxiety surrounding that sort of stuff but i’m trying to do better! i’m challenging myself to respond to every single comment on chapter 1 of TLO 😤
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
oh boy. um, none of them? when i finish HIOP (i haven’t abandoned it, i’ve just been hella busy with TLO and life and stuff) it’ll have a similar sort of bittersweet ending as in TGP canon, but i don’t particularly like truly angsty endings. i honestly don’t know if i’ll ever write one. angst in a fic? yes, absolutely, tons of it, please. but i need a happy ending.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
teenage dirtbag 🥺🥰 those lil fuckers really did that, didn’t they?
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
“Help Is Other People” is sort of a shameless/TGP crossover bc of characters & concepts, but it’s not exactly a “crossover” in the traditional sense? it’s probably the only one i’ll ever write bc it just happened to line up perfectly with the character journeys, it was never my intention to write a crossover because i personally don’t care for them lmao
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
shockingly enough, no. not in the comments or anything. i’ve had a few rude anons but their messages were written in such a way i knew it was a them-issue and i just happened to say/write something that they didn’t particularly like in that moment and became a target of their anger. if i ever did get a true hate comment, y’all would never know because i would never publish it & give them that sort of satisfaction, lmao. i mean, i might, if it was funny and i needed to make a point 👀
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yes, sparingly. well, until TLO comes along 🤭 then “sparingly” will be replaced with “gratuitously” for a while, oops 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️ and all kinds, eventually. my only published stuff right now is awkward boyfriends content and TLO is…very different lmao
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
no, and holy shit that happens?? oh that’s fucked up
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
no, but oh my god i’d cry if that happened
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no! but i think it would be fun to try when i’m not so busy with other projects lmao (don’t worry, i’ll be stickin’ around this little sphere of the internet for quite some time)
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
all time? temperance brennan and seeley booth from “bones”. then ian and mickey, then my headcanon versions of alice cullen and bella swan. yes i’ve written fic for all of them. yes i enjoy my characters with a dash of ✨trauma✨ and what about it? 😌
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
none, i will finish every WIP i ever start goddammit 😤😤😤 (this is more for me than anyone else)
15. What are your writing strengths?
i have a hard time gauging my own strengths, so here’s what people have told me in messages/comments before: thoughtful world-building, immersive and/or cinematic writing style, creative storylines. and i’ll agree with them bc i’m trying to be better about doing that 💛
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
much like in real life, i talk too much. my writing is often long-winded and rambling and it’s definitely something i’m working on. i also change a lot of shit last minute so maintaining consistency with small details is difficult for me sometimes, and i lose a lot of writing time to double-and-triple-checking every little stupid thing 😭
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i think it’s a really interesting artistic choice to write a fic in one language and have pieces of dialogue in another language within the story - if i came across that in a fic, i’d be hitting google translate immediately because i’d be so curious - it could be interesting to hide a lil easter egg in a story that way 👀
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
twilight FUCK OFF
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
i have literally no idea, i hadn’t written fic for 6 years before i started writing TD and i only started again because i was so invested in the characters!
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
teenage dirtbag 😍 my child, my love, my heart and soul, you’re everything to me 💛
i’m tagging: @arrowflier @gardenerian @sweetcresta & @xgoldendays 🥰

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW SHIPS WORK ON YOUR BLOG
WHAT’S YOUR OTP FOR YOUR MUSE? :
For Kisara the closest I’d say is maybe blueshipping - especially with all the stuff I’ve done with @kaibagirl007 but I that doesn’t mean I’m not open to other shippings.
Tim is in a similar boat but I suppose if I had to choose it’d be his first love Isa - @compassionatedestiny I’m so glad things worked out how they did and has been fun seeing them grow- in their relationship and as individuals and will be more fun seeing where things go.
-I admit even though we had talked a little about it before starting- I was still ready and happy to accept the possibility of them just being friends. And I think that’s one thing I like best about them they can work just as well in a non romantic relationship as they do paired up together in one.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE? :
I mean it really does depend but not taking into account any sorts of au. obvs no minors, I’m kinda flexible maybe 7 years max ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING? :
Yes and no. I’m fairy open to at least giving a ship a shot if it’s something we’re both interested in. Of course that doesn’t auto mean it will happen- the biggest factor is the chemistry. Whether ‘on screen’/in rp form or just what comes about through our own talking and plotting.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY’RE CONSIDERED NS/FW? :
Uh idk. I don’t tend to write a lot of stuff like that so eh. For the most part it’ll probably be skipped over. Might also talk to my partner see what they think as well- and also get an idea of how far they want to take it. (Generally speaking probably won’t be an issue to run into.)
WHO ARE OTHER MUSES YOU SHIP YOUR MUSE WITH? :
For Kisara- actually I don’t really have any other (romantic/ non platonic) ships going with her at the moment. With the one other being Atem with @questionableconvictions which has been cute and looking forward to seeing how things play out.
Shockingly some how dragon boy is the one who’s acquired them. Outside Isabel, The stuff with Rioaka - @nefer-seshen is a very close second, cutest pair of cinnamon rolls.
With the other ship being Single dad Tim with Imnah @cakenwxnderlust
ANY NOTPS? :
Not really, for the most part. For Kisa I’d probably say obvs no like Aknadin/Aknemkanon.
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU? :
Eh. *shrugs* Not really, but I think any/everyone would agree it does make things a lot easier to say something if you are interested. None of us is a mind reader after all.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP? :
I’m certainly always open to the possibility, but it’ll be something to build on. And I do try to keep it secondary to basically everything else going on with the muses/ in an rp.
If the chemistry is there- and of course we both agree on it- then shipping is bound to happen
ARE YOU MULTISHIP? :
Heck yah. Sure I may have a few favourites but in general I’m not picky just as long as the chemistry is there.
ARE YOU SHIP-OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS? :
Eh. I certainly love and enjoy the idea of shipping- and adore the current ones I do have. But I’m not sure I’d call myself obsessed.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM? :
Mostly I’d say blueshipping and rebirth ( compassionatedestiny)
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU? :
Talk. Shoot me an ask or pop into my IM let me know if you’re interested, whether we’ve already rped or not doesn’t matter. If we haven’t interacted before we can start something up and see where it goes.
It’s also often easier to ship if we’ve already had some interactions going- since then at least the muses will have some kind of chemistry going, so better chances of it happening/that I’ll be interested too.
But while it does make things easier it’s not at all mandatory.
tagged by @questionableconvictions
Tagging: Everyone I’ve already tagged in this post and jsut anyone else who wants it
#rp stuff#ooc#shipping thing#all the muns and their muses on here are awesome and you should go check them all out

ST: TNG Watchthrough Episodes 21-25. Final episodes of Season One.
Symbiosis: Remember kids, drugs are bad! Okay tbf this WAS back in the 80’s where crack and stuff were a growing issue and drug addiction episodes were not at all uncommon. Heaven knows that I saw PLENTY in cartoons from the time, such as Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue or a VERY infamous episode of Captain Planet that I’m shocked got by the censors. As with many of those cartoons though, this episode is... well, pretty preachy. Not as badly, they save it for just one scene for the most part, but still. I don’t think that tackling addiction in ST is a bad idea, but... well, 80’s. I guess if it educated people then that’s good. Frankly I was on Crusher’s side that they should do something, but they stick with the Prime Directive which I guess they’ve gotten a LOT stricter about since the TOS days. The ending is pretty depressing with the addiction continuing, the assholes continuing to sell it, and our heroes can only allow it to happen aside from depriving them of ships to stop shipments, leaving them to figure it out themselves. Hopefully one day things can get better for them. Otherwise, it was just okay. Not the worst drug PSA I’ve ever seen by a long-shot. Oh and apparently there was a Reading Rainbow episode where Levar showed the making of this episode, so if you can find it you should check it out~! 3/5.
Skin of Evil: So... I already knew going into the show that Yar died and Worf would take her place as Security Chief. It’s a shame tbh cause while underdeveloped, I really liked Yar and had she held out, she could have gotten some REALLY good development. But I understand why the actress was unsatisfied with being on the show and left, and I read that she does get to come back for an episode later on so that’s nice. I’ll go into how her death was handled in a bit. As far as the episode itself goes, we have a VERY creepy black liquid monster holding Troi hostage in a crashed shuttle and considering it just managed to kill a person, the danger is VERY real. And it did it essentially because it wanted to cause suffering which Troi senses, which makes it all the more horrifying. The tension and fear is very strong and them themes of a being that serves evil just because... yeah that was something. Picard causing it to break down was freakin’ awesome, Kirk would be proud! Now Yar’s death. The reactions of everyone were appropriate and the event was properly shocking. I went wide-eyed when it happened since I did NOT expect it to happen that fast in that kind of manner. The funeral was also properly sad and showed that Yar was a valued member of the crew and very much respected by her crewmen, and that she respected them in turn. The final scene where Data is confused if he missed the point by feeling lost and Picard telling him that he got it exactly right? That was a perfect note to end on, and by God is that the truth regarding grief/loss. That being said... while I understand why it was done as it was and can’t complain about the execution and tone, the abrupt end just feels unsatisfying. I hate character deaths like this because it makes the character feel wasted and robs them of a proper sendoff, even with Yar’s message. They just feel like fodder. So while it had the proper weight, I’m still unhappy with how it’s done and I hope that Yar’s later reappearance will allow more closure or her. Because even if underutilized, she deserved a better ending. Still, even taking that into account, the episode is dark, tense, and Yar’s death does leave a shocking impact that TOS never quite gave me (Spock got brought back so that doesn’t count, plus he got a proper sendoff that would have been satisfactory fi he hadn’t come back). 4.5/5.
We’ll Always Have Paris: So after major character death and evil tar monsters, we get an episode on Picard’s love life! I guess a pre-requisite for being a Starfleet Captain is to have a crappy one of those. Then again maybe Sisko will break the curse when I get to DS9, we’ll see. Anyways! As the title hints, this is essentially the ST version of Casablanca. Picard has an old flame who left him, got married, and now the couple are in need of help while that old flame between Picard and the woman Jenice (is Janice and variaiton fo Janice just... a REALLY common name in the future? There was Janice Rand, Kirk’s ex in Turnabout Intruder was named Janice, now in TNG we have Jenice, how is this a pattern?!). Isn’t love fun folks?! So the episode was... okay. The time distortion or whatever broke my brain so that didn’t help. Picard and Jenice... didn’t work for me? Like... I felt no chemistry. It felt like two people in denial about a flame that fizzled out ages ago than one that burned for many years but was lost. IDK fit hat’s on the actors, the script, and/or the directing but I felt nothing, plus Jenice flirting wih Picard while her husband was in sickbay possibly dying... felt pretty shitty. Oh and the Picard/Crusher ship tease also made me feel nothing. I like Picard. I LOVE Crusher. I don’t have any feelings for them as a pair especially considering that Crusher’s husband was friends with Picard and died on duty with him... which just makes it feel WRONG to me. And poor Troi has to deal with everyone being emotionally repressed idiots, the poor woman deserves a niiiice Shore Leave. So it was average, but the lack of romantic chemistry and me just being confued by the time distortions cause... time distortions just left me confused and uninvested. So yeah... that’s all I can say. 2/5.
Conspiracy: Well a title like that can only mean good things, right? RIGHT?! So... remember the brain slugs from The Wrath of Khan? Well they decided to bring that concept back! They’ve taken over the admirals of Starfleet and are taking over with our heroes having to try and figure out what’s happening and stop it. It’s an interesting one for sure. We have Picard on Earth with the admirals while Quinn from a previous episode is on the Enterprise and causing chaos on there. It’s pretty scary to think about, the higher ups being brainwashed and could have easily destroyed the Federation from the inside out if Picard hadn’t been warned ahead of time. When Picard is utterly surrounded and they were eating the worm things... God it was scary. Although Riker really DID fool me into thinking he was possessed, so I outright cheered when he pulled out his phaser. Badass! Oh and Crusher blasting Quinn until he was down was also badass. It was also shockingly graphic with the bugs and the one guy’s body that hosted the alien... how THAT got by the censors I will never, EVER know. In the end, we never find out about who unleashed the parasites (apparently it was going to be The Borg but it didn’t work out) or what they wanted, but it certainly left an impact. Plus I think the ambiguity makes it all the more horrifying. Someone or something almost took over... and they’ll never know who or what. Overall, really good episode. 4/5.
The Neutral Zone: Well they’ve mentioned then and hinted at it a few times, but at last in the season final, the Romulans have made their return. IDT thy’ve been major villains since The Enterprise Incident back in TOS S3. Speaking of TOS... I thought we were done reusing plots, but this is more or less Space Seed except the frozen people aren’t evil, bio enhanced lunatics. So not a direct reuse but it’s pretty hard to ignore the major similarity. Anyways, we have a bit of an interesting premise with people from the 20th Century being thawed into the 24th Century and letting them interact. There would be major culture shock and values dissonance because even compared to the 80’s and the 2020’s so many values and views have changed. So imagine how much changed in between four centuries with concepts like phones and banks no longer a thing. It was... eh? I like the idea but I just didn’t care for these people much? Well the one guy who is a walking Southern redneck stereotype didn’t especially when he... was alone with Crusher. I HATED that guy, and I’ve seen rednecks my entire life! The other two I at least felt some sympathy for especially the one woman, but not enough to get me invested in this particular plot. Though I WAS amused by some things like TV not surviving past 2040... yeah THAT I find difficult to believe. Ah, the irony of making TV shows set int he future when you have no way of predicting what will and won’t happen. But yeah I get the parallel they were going for by the end with the civilians and Romulans being out of touch with the Federation, but I just didn’t care enough. The Romulan half of the plot? The build-up to it was good with everyone on edge since this will be the first time dealing with them in over 50 years and who knows what they’re like now compared to the TOS era. And when we finally see them? Well they’re very much still intimidating and a sense of danger is very much still existent, though they do agree to share information on this one issue so they aren’t foolish. It very much brought back whatever investment I had in them back in TOS, Went hey said that they’re back, that was a promise and I am all for it~! As far as being a season finale goes... well TOS weren’t exactly great in that area so it being just fine is par for the course, but it is just fine. Really the Romulan bit was what helped this episode, otherwise it’s just okay, but at least the ending scene promises more to come. Not a bad note to end on. 3/5.
Well it took much longer than I had hoped, but we have finished TNG Season One! It was... rough, but I knew going it that it would be. There were some bright spots and it did well enough to get renewed, but clearly a lot was going to need to be done to fine tune the show and let it reach it’s full potential. Will Season 2 be an improvement? What changes will they make? Will they be good or bad for the show? Will Riker ever get his glorious beard anytime soon? We’ll find out in due time. So tomorrow I’ll do the Top 5 Best/Worst list for S1, then by Friday I hope to get S2 underway. For now one season down, six to go. The adventure continues.

“She, like me, is a slut for office supplies.”
R: This week, the artist we’ve been waiting for:
youtube
J: Ah, my queen. I was singing this on the toilet yesterday.
Not the response I expected.
Surprise bitch!
I’m glad we got to Kate Bush so soon
I would never stray from mother
I love this song but I don’t know the words to any of the verses. Like, it means nothing to me in that I don’t know what it’s about but also the chorus means enough that it makes me really emotional?
Which album was this again? Was it The Dreaming?
Yes, The Dreaming. I can’t believe she didn’t release it as a single here.
Poor Mother didn’t have much luck with singles to be fair. I don’t think she made the top five very often.
True but this song is good.
So good. The Dreaming as an album is incredible.
The Dreaming is very good but I’m also glad it didn’t get received well because that allowed for the Best Album Of All
Ah yes, The Kick Inside
*eye roll emoji*
1. The Kick Inside 2. The Dreaming 3. Hounds Of Love 4. Never For Ever 5. Lionheart I think.
Hounds of Love is number one. Then Never For Ever, The Kick Inside.
Interesting choice to put N4E ahead of The Dreaming.
I have yet to come across The Dreaming.
I urge you to listen to it in full.
The Sensual World is above Lionheart.
Mmm yes. I forgot about The Sensual World. A rubber band bouncing back to life, or something.
When I started in Shelter they had a Sensual World cassette that quickly became mine. I get Rubberband Girl and Suspended In Gaffa muddled up sometimes. Stationery.
Of course. Kate Bush: office manager.
She, like me, is a slut for office supplies.
I feel that so much. Suspended In Gaffa is a bona fide tune. All of The Dreaming. I used to listen to it on repeat while I was doing funding applications in 2017 which is a very specific vibe.
That is very specific.
So it’s kind of tainted but still fabulous.
Suspended In Gaffa reminds me of the walk into work, I assume I was listening to it on a particularly emo day. “I don’t know why I’m crying” is a very good lyrics for my emo days. Spoiler: it’s usually just PMT.
I don’t know why I’m crying is a classic line and I feel it in my soul.
Can we talk about how shit the video is? I was very disperpointed [a/n: intentional typo - I don’t remember the context anymore but it’s an important piece of our fabric]
OK, so I watched the video, and yeah okay it’s not Experiment IV levels of “Kate what are you talking about”, or even Robbie Coltrane in the National Anthem [a/n: Deeper Understanding], but it’s no more low key than The Man With The Child In His Eyes, and actually her dancing is very similar to mine so I appreciate that.
youtube
But that had been done already, she’d made Wuthering Heights and The Man With The Child In His Eyes and Wow and Hammer Horror and Them Heavy People already.
Maybe it’s a throwback.
Kate wiggling about was getting a bit passé, don’t you think?
My mother can never be passé.
The Dreaming [song] had some concept at least. What does the barn have to do with the song?
youtube
The Dreaming had hella concept. I mean short of her actually being suspended in gaffa I don’t know what she could have done.
I’d have loved that,
I also think there’s a commercial appeal to the video that the song doesn’t have. Maybe people in 1985(?) [a/n: 1982] liked seeing Kate wiggling.
But where would it appear in 1982ish? Top Of The Pops?
Yeah, TotP probs.
MTV perhaps but I don’t think they really took to her.
The Dreaming wasn’t a commercial hit if I recall so this is maybe Kate trying to tone it down, because let us not forget, mother does not care for commercial when there’s art. Maybe she was tired, idk.
I can’t argue it was a mistake because it allowed for Hounds Of Love, but thank god Hounds Of Love happened.
I honestly thank god for All Of Mother’s Creation.
If we’re talking about her visual output and why she’s a genius, you only need to say one word: Cloudbusting.
youtube
Omg. Yes. That was going to be my example of Kate at her most Kate-esque.
This video is shockingly lazy compared to Cloudbusting.
I don’t know if it’s lazy. Cloudbusting had a much clearer concept and a story to tell. But Kate dressed as a pre-teen boy? This is priceless.
It’s genius.
I can’t think of Madonna having done anything similar.
Madonna did everything else.
Androgyny, yeah, but not flat out gender play.
What It Feels Like For A Girl?
youtube
Oh true.
Anyway no offence to Kate I love her she’s my mother but not her best visual work.
Agreed. We all have off days.
Or off eras.
