my coworker made several jokes about catholicism in our meeting this morning. and not that i’m particularly defensive about it because they all poke at things that are true and criticizable, but she simply would not have made the same jokes about other religions (maybe besides mormonism) even though those religions also have large scale histories of abuses, coverups, and regressive idealogy. idk weird and rubs me the wrong way

i remember seeing a post on here a few years ago that was talking about like. unhealthy ideas around food and weight being pervasive in the workplace. and at the time i wasn't working full time yet and was like. how can that possibly be true. workplaces aren't a different world than the rest of society why would the way people talk about food and weight be more drastic there. like i would expect worse stuff to pervade in certain industries like modeling or whatever, but your standard office?

i'm working full time now and i'm really unsettled to find that it's totally true. idk if it's the age of the people or just like that it's ironically considered a "safe" topic of conversation compared to like politics etc. but people absolutely do talk more and more unhealthily about food and weight loss than i have ever heard anywhere else in the rest of my life. so bizarre to me that people will bring in cookies or whatever for the office and then somebody will say something about this being bad for weight loss goals. always like joking and smiling but so weird. maybe it's like a class thing? idk. talking about weight with anyone but like. your immediate family or your absolute closest friends is totally unacceptable in my family/social circle. it's considered insanely personal and private
