"What a surprise, dear one." His voice is steady, like always, but your ears twitch, a mischievous undertone you can hear thanks to the time you spent together. "You knew this would happen right?" You said now in his open arms, steps lulling you, door closing thanks to Liu Kang's graceful kick. "Maybe" He looks up smiling like a fool "Now it is time to celebrate traditions." -You are the first to get closer, your lips pressed against his soft ones, his right hand finding peace in the back of your head, pushing you closer, the other on your lower back, moving in slow circle, his fire slowly enveloping you, his tattoos hidden under the bandages glowing faintly. -Liu Kang loves Earthrealm traditions.

Congrats, it's not easy to surprise a ninja. -Tomas knows what a mistletoe means, he remembers when he watched with his sister Christmas movies, disgust plastered on his face. -Tomas feels giddy, a warmth that envelopes him completely. -He feels like a fool, a dumb kid during Christmas, a giggle escapes his mouth "So, don't I get a kiss?" His arms are open. -'It should be the other way around' you think, but it doesn't develop further, more excited to kiss your lover. -He is so overjoyed his legs become jelly, Tomas could only dream of being so loved by someone. -A simple gesture that brought him immense joy, fingers tapping on your back, playing your skin like a piano. -"Why so happy Tomas? Did I do something funny?" You question, lips barely apart. "You just reminded me of happy memories." He replies, hands now steady on your hips, grey eyes twinkling with joy.

Mileena -She…doesn't fall for it. Not because she knows what a mistletoe hanging from the ceiling means, but because of her observation skill. -"Dear, why there is a plant on the ceiling?" Voice rasped, head bending slightly. "Well, it's a long story…" -You explain to her what it means, never looking at her in the eyes, worried she find the tradition (and you) stupid. -She smiles, 'thank god' you think, her plush lips finding yours before you can finish the explanation, making you stutter. The kiss is fast and for sure not satisfying, leaving you aching for more. -"Is this fine, dove?" her arms lay on your shoulders, keeping your bodies close, lips so close, but also so far away… "I think I'll have to show you how to do this, Empress" You finally close the distance, courage finally sparked your soul. Mileena grunts, a shiver runs down her spine thanks to her fave honorific. -You didn't exchange just one kiss that day.

Kuai Liang: -He totally did notice the mistletoe but also doesn't know the meaning behind it so he just walks by. -"Ah, mister! Stop right there" Index finger touching his chest, hidden by so many layers of clothing "It's time to pay up." one hand caresses his cheek, while the other glides in his onyx locks, smirk plastered on your face. -But…he doesn't move? His brown eyes look at you questioning. "So you don't know about the mistletoe tradition, mh baby?" "Care to explain, fireball?" His eyebrows furrow, way more focused than he needs to be. -And so you do, looking at his face getting softer and softer at each phrase, just to end up snickering, a familiar sparkle in his brown eyes. -"You really find any occasion to get a kiss from me." "Are you saying you'd rather not?" You pull away, watching him in fake annoyance, eyes glued to his to notice if he takes the bait. -He does, a kiss fierce as he is, a kiss that leaves you breathless but that you wish it to be neverending. -"Is this fine?" Kuai Liang asks, a hint of jolly in his voice. "Yeah, but I think you should do that again, you know, just to be su-" -You won't need to finish the phrase.

Connor jumps right into big brother mode. You show up at his ranch exhausted, shaking, with a nasty bruise settling near your eye. Immediately, he lets you in, holding you for as long as you need. He doesn't need to ask you what happened, who did this. Roman used to go to him with the same look, the same bruise, the same scared eyes. Connor sits you down, offering tea and an ice pack, pressing it gently to you. He asks if he can call Pops, but you beg him not to. You don't want to hear his voice. You don't want to think about it. You ran the second you could and haven't looked back. He assures you that whatever you need, he's there. He won't call him if it upsets you. He makes up the spare bedroom and reminds you that if you wanna talk, he's more than willing to listen. In the morning, he'll call your other siblings, letting them know where you are, that you're safe. They all want to know what happened, but he knows it's your story to tell. He doesn't even tell them about the bruise, not wanting you to be bombarded with texts and calls. You came to him seeking safety and shelter. That's exactly what he'll be there for. He'd do anything to protect you.

Kendall can't believe it. He knows that your father hit Rome, he still does, but you? He's never raised a hand to you. He's not blaming you, at all, but he knows you must've said or done something to push Dad over the edge. When you swear up and down that you didn't do anything to instigate him, hysterical, deciding that maybe you should just go to one of your other siblings homes, he finally believes you. Sorta. He tells you he does anyways, not wanting to upset you anymore. He offers what empathy he can, but he doesn't know. He's never feared your father like that. He thinks about giving Shiv or Con a call before deciding that isn't the best idea. Kendall is all too aware of what kind of image your family had to uphold. Getting anymore people involved would ruin you, your reputation. You were falling apart over what, a slap? a punch? You're his baby sibling, he loves you, but he can't help but also look down on this behavior. You ran away. Isn't that a little childish for your age? A little juvenile? You regret going to him, blaming your father for the way he is.

Shiv is shocked. She doesn't register that someone's been knocking on the door, too wrapped up in her emails and messages, until you start calling her by name. She doesn't know what to say or do, only that you're standing before her, bruised, crying, reminding her so much of the little kid you used to be. What, what are you - what happened? You just shake your head. You try to say something, but it only comes out in whimpers. Eventually, she just pulls you inside. She leaves you only for a second, calling Logan. His story doesn't match up with what she's seeing, the welt on your head swelling as you sip at your water, finally calmed down. She tells him that you're with him and you're safe, but he doesn't care. He calls you a few names she'd rather not repeat. She offers her guest room until things have cooled down. She's not really sure what to do, how to handle things. She's never seen you this upset and as far as she knows, he's never laid a hand on you before this. She doesn't push it, but she needs to hear it from your perspective. She was your big sister, your protector, and yet in this moment, Shiv felt like she was failing you. Failing her duties as big sister.

Roman plays it off cool, but underneath he's seething. You got into your fights with Logan, they all did, but the bruise he left made Roman himself flinch. There were certain rules and expectations that came with the sibling hierarchy. As far as you'd all known, you were off limits. This isn't the first time he's done this, he can tell, but this is the first time you ran to him. He's not sure what to do, how to help. He's never been any good in these kinds of situations. Offering comfort isn't something he learned growing up. Still, he tries. He tries for you. He makes you up a bed on the couch and gets some ice for your face, making sure you're really okay. You don't tell him what happened, but he's lived through enough of these scenarios to put the pieces together. When you've gone to sleep, or when he thinks you have, he gives Logan a call. It goes straight to voicemail and he can't help himself, he goes off. Blows up. He could do whatever he wanted to him, they all could, he'd made peace with that a long time ago, but you? You were off limits. You were the baby. No one laid a hand on his baby sibling, especially not your father.

Baby Jr's little hands curl over the blanket. She sits up, Roman blinks at the way his daughter looks sad.

"Mommy's not relaavant?"

He stares.

"No. I didn't - Daddy didn't say that. Now I kinda feel like shit."

"...Sorry, Daddy-"

"No. Stop, don't do that-okay. I just meant that it just...it happened. Daddy met Mommy when we were disgustingly tiny."

Baby Jr mms without an once of happiness.

"Like me?"

"Jesus. Stop. Stop it. Daddy is telling you to-it's different. I'm sorry. You're like a beautiful sort of tiny and you should be small and my child forever. I'm feeling sick now."

"I'm sorry."

Roman puts his hands on Baby Jr's cheeks, squishing her face. She giggles hard.

"Mommy is very relevant. You are a great, crazy great tiny. Daddy's just being a fuckhead. She kinda just...she was there, all of sudden. She came with her...daddy, I think. He worked with Grandpa so she was around to bother us all the time. But if you really want me to focus, I'm sorta picking like a playground-garden and she's there. Child. And I'm a child."

Baby Jr settles down at the story. She's very excited.

"I think Shiv was there? Aunty Shiv was obsessed with Mommy. But I was the better Roy. So that day, we just played on swings and she started to be my super best friend. Don't tell her I said that, she'll get a big, fatty head."

"How were you better? I love Aunty."

"...Okay? So do I, honey. But Daddy just..."

"I love you too."

"Duh. I love you too."

...He just wanted it more. He thinks.

"She was on the swings, super little and I came up to her with my mad skills. I was very motivated to make sure that she didn't bother other people. That's where you get your generosity from. She went crazy on me in terms of friendship. And here you are."

"...That's so cute! That is the best story ever!"

Roman's mouth goes up. Slightly. His daughter, in all her stupid perfection, is probably right.

But his smile drops.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm gonna tell Mommy the story!"

"No! She already knows, weirdo!"

Roman grabs his squirming, giggling child. He's very right, she already knows the story - she kind of has to. But as Baby laughs quietly just by the door, if she didn't know it then, she knows it now.

I don’t know whether I’m getting the wrong idea but I really got the impression in that scene that Shiv realised Roman had experienced some form of sexual abuse. I was never a supporter of that theory but I honestly can’t read that situation any differently. She’s clearly watching Roman’s reaction and lightbulbs go off in her head for whatever reason which leads her to ask the old guard how bad her dad actually was, and she and her brothers had experienced Logan’s emotional abuse and she witnessed Roman’s physical abuse so what else could it be?

Oh, anon, short answer is- I don't know.

But I'll give you a long one, too. (And I made the important bits bold, haha)

First of all, I'm also not really in support of the csa theory, mainly because it asks the viewer to do a lot of inbetween the lines reading, more so than Succession already does on the regular. Secondly, and I hope I don't sound like a dick, I find it a little bit too much. But. Considering that a) there are indeed hints + some cut stuff from the scripts implying it and b) Succession is inspired by "Festen" (and csa is sort of the topic of that film) it is not impossible. Most things in this show aren't impossible if you have a valid argument, which this theory does.

But you are asking me. Personally, "lightbulb moment" yes, 100% love that phrasing. What I think it is- like you said- is Shiv seeing her worst suspicions about abuse (emotional, physical, not sexual) reflected so clearly to her by Roman. Roman of all people, the one that always jokes and makes light of his own abuse and messy inner world. She is starting to connect the dots of bad childhood memories (one of which she just talked about in front of everyone and made it into a somewhat positive thing) and real impact. Like, we know getting yelled at for playing in front of the office might not be the end of that story, especially not for Roman's side but that is left open. But, I guess, Shiv would know. And she would know that there is a direct line from back then to how she sees her brother act and react now. I can't believe I'm saying it, but it's almost like Roman became a real person to her just now.

But she can't have those dots connect right now, because there is business to be done and a father to imitate while doing so. So, she goes to Frank and Karl, she knows they will give her an answer she can live with for now. I think Frank says something like "he was a tough old nut" but, unfortunatly, that other "what you see is what you get" comment is not at all what Shiv wanted to hear, since she did see all kinds of things and there is no good to balance it, not even from the old guard.

On a side note, I also find it interesting that the scene is shot in a way where the story seems to ask Shiv "Will you follow your brother for a real answer or go for the easy way out" and then, when even the easy way is not satisfactory, she doesn't try again. (I do so hope she tries again in the finale)

tl,dr: anon, you are not getting it wrong, i think there are many ways to read this and the ambiguous space that question exists in is exactly what makes it so haunting.

as for an au where roman fires reader, she'd definitely not take him seriously at first. maybe laugh and tell roman to stop joking around but then does a double take when she realizes he's being forreal </3 roman also tries to alleviate the guilt he feels by repeatedly saying it was logan's decision, not his (don't blame the messenger and whatnot) but reader would be v hurt nonetheless. he'd start spouting out bs like, "i'm doing you a fucking favor, it's for the best, i'm putting the company's interests first, etc." from then, reader would grow furious and tells roman that if he fires her then whatever it was that they had between them would be over. roman, being roman, tells her they never stood a chance in the first place (he doesn't actually believe this, he's just swept up in the argument).

everyone's surprised / shocked when they hear she's been sacked, as she's so close to the family without acc being on the board and also has such a vital role keeping the company afloat. waystar itself would have a terrible adjusting period bcs they really underestimated just how much reader did for them (esp the small things that accumulated in her absence).

she leaves the company upset and bitter at first, but eventually realizes that she can finally live her own life and do what she wants to do without the constraints of the company / the roy family / her own absent parents. reporters are still constantly swarming her, asking her what happened, why she got fired, if she has any plans on going back, etc.

as for her relationship with roman, i can see them reconciliating eventually after a month or two because roman misses her like air and he fucking hates being in his dog cage the company without her there. would spam text her a million times one random day until she finally responds and would demand that she come to a fancy restaurant (he'll pay ofc, he's assumed she's gone totally broke now that she's not working w him), and they meet again and things just fall into place with the two of them :( reader is still pretty angry and hasn't forgiven roman yet, but she's missed him a lot too and couldn't ever permanently estrange herself from roman. as for the other siblings, reader wouldn't really keep in contact with shiv and kendall without roman in the equation, but she still gets check-up texts from connor, which she would briefly but fondly respond to </3

in this au, reader & roman wouldn't romantically get together probably until after the events of season four. they're terribly tragic soulmates in every universe i'm afraid !!

sO I played this game when I was like 8-9-10 y/o. I met the saga through The Lost Frontier lmao but my English was very bad so I couldn't play much of the game and sent my dad to change it. iirc, the game he came back with was Jak X, if not then I got it another time I went to the store and said "surprise me".

since I had tried googling about TLF to help me pass the game, I got familiarized with the rest of the games as well. I had a (very) vague idea of the story through amvs and fanmade content. so then I got to play the game, the story was much shorter cuz it was only one game, and the playing mechanics were basically Mario kart (which I had played a lot previously) so I had a way easier time understanding things. I guess that made me closer to this game in particular. Also I asked the store for the main trilogy but they could never get them.

Plus I actually replayed it a dozen times cause of the fucking save file corruption bug, it was years of frustration cause I could never reach the end of the game without losing my progress. I eventually got a second memory card and tried again, this time with a strategy of cloning the save on each card. But by that time I had already watched the cutscenes on YouTube cause I genuinely thought I could never do it on my own. Still, getting to finish the game was like a life goal being achieved

NOW since I was a small kid I haTED Mizo's crew with a passion cause they were evil bad guys and that was all I could see. I had a special hate spot for Razer and UR-86. And the fact that I couldn't beat the game felt like they were winning against me and I was failing to save Jak's team from the poison. But then puberty hit and I admitted to myself that I had a crush on Razer LMAO and I became Mizo's crew #1 fanboy. Before I realized I was thinking of backstories, headcanons, ships, self inserting myself on the team or as their rival who ends up warming up to them

I got to play the other games when I was 15 (it was around this time that I got to beat Jak x too) and that made me appreciate X even more because they really didn't need to go THAT HARD yet they did!!! and I'm so glad!!!! It gave us more time with Jak + a different side to him, a lot of depth in world building, character development for Keira (I had very protective parents so I feel her) AND THEY FINALLY KISSED OMG TOOK YOU BOTH DUMMIES LONG ENOUGH + that plot wist with GT and then the Rayn one at the very end holy shit

now a lil on my love for the baddies: we get literally zero stuff from them except for Mizo's daddy issues and Razer's sassyness so this part is mostly me going full delulu. Most of my attention at first was on Razer obviously and I always love/hated him, I feel like I wouldn't stand him but God he's so cool. Then one day I randomly started adoring Shiv?? I just thought he'd be such a chill guy and started picturing us as besties??? Edge I feel would be Shiv's kinda close friend, we see them together most of the time they have in X after all. And then Cutter's the most reserved one, I picture him being actually really sweet but you Have To Get There.

Finale Thoughts from Kendall’s Corner

I'll start by saying that I am very grateful that Kendall lived. When I was watching the last scene and he approached the water and then turned around, it seemed to me that he made the decision not to kill himself. It was a relief, but I was so, so sad to see him feeling hopeless. But I don't think he actually is hopeless and I think eventually he will see that.

The narrative/character arc doesn’t give much hope, if you’re watching it from a more academic perspective, but the character himself, as a person, if you’re watching it from an emotional perspective, would find hope again in another way. Personally, I have always appreciated the academic aspects very much, but in my heart I’ve always held an emotional perspective on Kendall. The narrative vs person thing is where I think the divide in discourse is right now. To me and, I think, to many of us, he feels like a real person and that real person will move forward because that’s what people do! I’m mostly speaking from that perspective here. In acting, they tell you you can’t play a narrative, play a theme, play a moment. You play a character. So I’m looking at it that way.

But even narratively, I do feel that after this long journey, Kendall still deserves better than an ending where he feels he loses everything. I didn't think it would be all one thing or all the other. I thought he would lose the vote, but have Roman and Shiv. They'd all be out again, like they were at the end of season 3. The Cycle, yes, but it would be over now because the company is sold. They're out, they don't know where they're going, but they're free. Even though that's not what happened, I really appreciated hearing Jesse/Mark’s analysis and the reminder that these characters’ lives continue, it’s just that this show was about the succession story so the show stops here. Again, that’s their answer- this particular narrative ends tragically, but the characters as people keep living and move forward. Now it’s up to the fic writers and I’m glad we have that too.

But oh the ending broke my heart and I wanted it to be different! I am literally in pain for Kendall and how much he so desperately wanted to be CEO and how long he had wanted it. The fact that Shiv took it from him when he could have had it with one word from her is just despair-inducing. When he called her heartless, it truly showed how deeply and nearly purely emotional this is for him. It isn’t a job, it’s a destiny, and he was begging her on a human level. When he said he might die, that he actually sees it as a life-and-death situation, and she heard that and still made that choice… it was just a twisted knife in the chest. Thank goodness he made it.

Even though I had that other, more hopeful ending in my mind going into it, I found myself wishing so hard that he would win when it came time. Team Ken, baby. As Jeremy said, when he was anointed and Happy Ken in the kitchen (my favorite scenes of all time 💗), he realized Kendall did feel he needed this to be happy. So I rooted for him to win because if he got CEO because his siblings voted for him, maybe he could lose so much else and still be happy/feel fulfilled. But I don’t think that he would be totally fulfilled even if he got CEO- he was looking to find self-worth through a job, and he needs self-love to do that. It would be possible for him to find that self-love with or without the job, just not directly from it.

Jeremy is deep in Kendall’s headspace and I think that's why he sounds so heartbreakingly hopeless about his fate, much as Kendall feels in that particular moment. He lived it, so he feels that way right now and maybe his perspective will evolve when he’s asked more questions about Kendall the person rather than where the narrative leaves off. I can’t imagine the pain he’s going through if it hurts me so much to watch it, so maybe the narrative is a way of distancing himself and protecting himself emotionally. He will probably feel better if he thinks more about Kendall the person though! Anderson Cooper was the first one to ask him what Kendall the person does next, and he sort of got off track and talked about other things, but he did acknowledge that Kendall continues on when Anderson said so by saying “this will be defining moment of his life.” I take that to mean that it’s basically a “before” vs “after” event for him. There is still an after. As much as I normally take Jeremy’s word as truth about Ken, given what Jesse said about Ken starting a company in the future (Jesse has the emotional perspective!) and the actual facts, I think over time he will come back from this- actually, “go on from this” is more accurate. It’s a new phase. He has Stewy! He has Connor! He has his kids and can still see them anytime! He has two billion dollars to start whatever creative, artistic venture he can possibly think up and build from the ground up. That’s actually something Logan would have been proud of too and Kendall will feel that.

As a person, he still has lots of life left. He is only 40, after all. I can’t accept that, as an actual person, he just never comes back and sits feeling suicidal and doing nothing for all time. That’s not how he’s been before. That’s not how life works. Jesse made the point that Kendall is resilient early in this season (he really is!), and that it’s a human thing just to have to keep going. The fact that he turns away from the water means to me that he still wakes up tomorrow, and still moves forward because, like everyone, he has to. That’s how life works. Even after the unthinkable thing happens, life continues. He will always think about what almost was, but he will want to get out of just living in that space. He has a therapist, a grief counselor, and still has people who love him.

Also, as many have pointed out, he’s been through something like this before in 1x06. There was even a sibling betrayal there, though that one was less of a blow because it was based in Roman’s fear of Logan more than anything else and Kendall knew it. But the point is that he’s made it through before. He lost the vote back then and he thought it was all over. The thing is that Jeremy says this time it was a permanent blow- HOWEVER, he also says he asserted to Jesse that this couldn’t just be the same as 1x06, but then he realized it was, but worse. It’s the cycle. But I would counter that with the fact that now, truly, the cycle of fighting for CEO and losing it is over. He said Kendall is not going back to fight for control of Waystar. He’ll never have his heart broken like this again.

An even more significant time when he came back from a horrible thing is, of course, when he lost part of his soul after the car accident, “lost everything that was important to him- his ambition, his integrity,” as Jeremy said then. But he came back. And Logan’s not there to berate him anymore. I think Jeremy is right that Kendall doesn’t go back into a fight for Waystar or a corporate rat race he has to win. But starting his own company? There’s something “super fucking absorbing.” He won’t have to think about this every minute. He was able to come back from thinking about the car accident every minute. Jeremy agreed that that happened over time, and it’s only natural and a positive thing for him. When you can’t change something, it’s not helpful to constantly focus on it. He knows that because he lived it and maintained his sense of self despite it. I do believe that he can rebuild.

I also think he and Roman have a chance of coming back together. Roman voted with him this time. He is nihilistic in a way that Kendall never has been so I don’t think Kendall understands him fully because he needs meaning (like most people). He didn't believe Roman when he said they were bullshit, which I was relieved by because I also disagree with Roman there. That was Logan’s voice in his head. Just because Logan says something doesn’t mean it’s true!They stuck together all season. Kendall and Connor will also still be brothers. They don’t have any rift.

With Shiv, I see a permanent wedge and perhaps eventual regret on her end for making a decision that did not serve anyone’s interests but Tom’s (and barely even his) and for the deep emotional pain she caused Kendall essentially out of pettiness. Kendall laid it out for her in terms he never has before. He told her about being promised this since he was seven years old. She was on track for it for a few months. He has been on track for it for 33 years. She can’t truly understand, but she could have tried to see it through his eyes. She knew at least a hint of what it was like.

Her choice was 1. voting with him and being annoyed by him versus 2. doing something that really won’t glean her anything, but will, as he's just explained, make him feel like his whole life is meaningless. He actually said he might die. And she chose to wield power one last time. Power over love. “I love you but I cannot stomach you.” Power in one fleeting moment was more important to her than love for her brother. She doesn’t have any more power now. She could have been Waystar president, chair, anything. Now she is the powerless CEO’s wife. The self-sabotage Mark Mylod mentioned is so salient in her in that moment. Tom has betrayed her multiple times even when she has stood up for him, saved him, helped him, protected him. Kendall never even actually tried to cut her out of the company (the decision-making process about the deal, yes, but then he even came clean to her about that!). He would have let her do any job she liked and he told her so. She so feared a betrayal from Kendall this season, and it really never came, but she chose Tom, who she knew had definitely betrayed her more than once and, I think, would not hesitate to do so again.

She anointed Kendall. Then she took it away at the last second. Kendall’s not the only one who acted like Logan.

It’s true that Kendall said “I don’t know if you and me come back from that” after the letter, and then they did come back. This is different and much worse, but I do believe that they still have love for each other and that will always be there. I don’t see them speaking for a time or ever being close in the future because Kendall will always feel that she turned at least the first part of his life into a meaningless journey, which was his worst fear. There will never be trust again. But perhaps her baby will draw him to visit her and could break the ice.

The golden trio, the rebel alliance- they do know that they felt better together. They did express that they liked being aligned all season long. And if they do come back together on any personal level, they won’t have Logan or the business to tear them apart again. And Kendall will do other things! He’s creative and resourceful and he has at least one friend who would be there for his next idea once he makes a step or two toward emotional recovery. Personally, I'd like to see Kendall become a music executive 🎶🙌🏻💕

I'm so disappointed with what we're getting. I'm afraid to admit it, but I seem to hate this season. I don't want to rush, yes, we have 4 more episodes, but every week I'm losing hope. I don't think I'll watch the next episode live. I just don't get what's going on with the characters? With Shiv, Tom and ESPECIALLY Greg. They destroyed his character. Like, who is this man? Why does he act like a fifteen year old boy who sees boobs for the first time. All he does this season is show up for a couple of seconds, say an unfunny, uncomfortable line about sex with women, and then leave. I would accept it if he was gay in the closet and acted like that because he didn't want to be like his father, but instead he became exactly like his father, and when he understands this, he will finally accept himself. But no, this is way too deep a story for stupid dumb Greg, let's say in an interview that he was going to be gay until season 3 and then make him cringe straight. And for what? It is not interesting. It's not even funny. Where is his arch? Logan died and we didn't even see Greg tell Evan about it. His dynamic with Tom is completely gone, there is no depth to their relationship anymore. Unpopular opinion, I don't like 401, I think all the problems started back then. The whole season 3 was about them being Nero and Sporus, but in the s4 first episode the writers call them brothers and now we barely see them (also why does Tom want to hear about Greg's s*x life when he was so angry and jealous when Greg talked about c*mfrey in s3). The only scene of theirs that I liked was the one where Tom cries on the phone. And what happens to Tom? He's been talking about a divorce since the end of season 2, but now all of a sudden they decide they just need to fuck and that's it, all the problems are gone. Why does he say he's with Shiv for money and power when in the first season he was willing to sign a prenup without looking? Why are they joking about love? I understand why Shiv would do that, but Tom? He is romantic. We saw that he wants to love and be loved and that's why he and Shiv are so not suitable for each other. Are they trying to make Tom look as evil as Shiv so it makes sense that they won't get divorced? I don't like their scenes together because I feel like they are trying to convince me that their relationship actually works, but we watched for 3 (!!!) seasons that this is not true. Why Shiv suddenly cares about Tom. And I'm not even talking about pregnancy trope, it makes me sick. As if the scripts for Shiv and Greg were accidentally mixed up, so Greg now only talks to Tom about sex with other people, and Shiv and Tom have strange almost abusive erotic scenes. What happened in the writers' room between seasons 3 and 4? I feel like I'm watching a bad fanfiction of a person who loves tomshiv and hates Tom and Greg. I'm holding onto Nick's "just believe in Greg" as a lifeline because maybe he knew we'd be frustrated at the beginning, but things would change at the end of the season? Or nothing will change, and he lied so that we would not be upset ahead of time. This has been my favorite show for the last couple of years, but now I just wish it had ended after the third season

Point the 1st:

Roman kept asking Kerry for her personal phone number, and helped her pick up her spilled purse which contained at least a few bottles of pills. The shallow read of this is that he’s trying to get in touch with her to bone her, but that is too obvious and weird, and also roman canonically does not fuck. So why is he asking for Kerry’s number?

Also imo a non-zero chance that Kerry is pregnant and/or has knowledge about Logan that Roman wants. Kerry got Logan to come to karaoke and apologize to the kids, she clearly had at least some influence with him.

So yes Roman seemed to be helping, but he was very much working to his own purpose and the helping Kerry was incidental.

Point the second:

Tom has just had it made abundantly clear that if he doesn’t get back in Shiv’s good graces then he is beyond fucked. He knows Shiv is a fucking mess right now, and he knows that she loves him and hates that she does. He’s used guilt on Shiv before when they had the babytrapping convo and the one where she said she didn’t think it would be “good for her to hear that” *and* Tom hung her out to dry when it looked like Logan was the best bet. He is also playing the game. He even spent this entire episode telling everyone that he can be “of service.”

He needs Shiv to take him back, and he can’t be so openly obsequious with her, so he tells a story about them, a story from when things were simpler, a time when Shiv openly admitted how much she cared about him. “Remember how much you liked me, and how I was always so respectful and asking about if things were okay and if you liked them, and you liked everything i did?” is an incredible and sad and moving guilt trip. Said by him to her under these circumstances, it’s a true story and a guilt trip and i gotta disagree with everyone taking Roman and Tom’s actions as positive and done in good faith. This is not a show about people like that. Everyone sucks here.

There is such a specific feeling that comes with reading any part of 3tan that I don't think I could ever fully explain.

But I think it's kind of like this part. Like getting together with people you care so much about on a nice summer day. People who you've seen and supported through their worst and vice versa. The 3tan couple feel to me like my best friends who I'm always rooting for because they make me believe in love and that there's someone out there who's exactly right for each of us. Rereading parts of this series feels like recalling stories that never get old or looking back on fond and special memories with friends. It's just such a genuine comfort and each character is so well-established that every time I laugh at their antics it feels like I've known them my whole life.

That being said, I was feeling this so much in this part, feeling like I was there, that the notes I took are mostly just reactions and exclamations lmao. But I feel like they illustrate my point quite well, so here they are.

"Prepared, you bring your weapon of choice to the door: a spoon, slathered with delicious batter, and your tongue in just a second." Lmaooo my eyebrows actually raised when I read that. I always love when OC gets like that but I feel like it also always backfires because Yoongi manages to be the bigger menace somehow.

"A hat, a tank, and the jewelry you love to hate." 😫😫😫

"Except now, your sundress is a lot more revealing than the last. And it’s very obviously covering your two-piece, a new one that you’re only confident enough to wear because of the man standing at the door." Double 😫😫😫. Hottest couple in the world award absolutely goes to them. Maybe fate made them have to hide their relationship for a while because the world is not ready to witness them in all of their glory yet. I know I'm not, and yet I want it so bad 😔😔😔

“He almost kissed me.” There's something so special about the fact that OC can share these things with at least one person. Because I could totally see how all of this would be overwhelming, I don't know how she's able to keep quiet about it. But Tae really is such a good friend and I'm so glad she has him 🥺

"Even though you’re having a wonderful time, you knew that something was missing. But why does that something have to be in reach and unreachable? Why does having him closer hurt worse?" 😭😭😭😭😭

Gosh this was just... it seriously just made me smile the whole time I was reading it. I love all of these characters, I love that each of them has a unique and individual personality and I loved seeing them all together like this and having so much fun. I feel like the next part of the main story line will be a bit more serious, so a light chapter like this full of teasing seems just right.

One thing Succession does brilliantly is the way it hints at cruises being only one of many scandals, many of which were far worse, while simultaneously hinting that almost everyone knows more than they let on. Gerri and Roman know the pipeline was sending girls out West. Connor knows that no one was allowed in the pool with Mo, and “it was a different time back then”. Kendall signed off on NDA payments. I think the only person who maybe doesn’t actually know more than they let on is Shiv - she does seem surprised when Tom tells her the bad thing in Cruises had to do with “institutionalized sexual abuse”.

On top of that, the list of crimes covered up Tom pats out for Greg is extensive. It includes murder. I also think at some point there is an implication by someone that at least one woman was murdered, possibly by Mo, presumably because she threatened to expose him. (IIRC it’s hinted at when the inner circle is discussing the article). But by the time we get to the Congressional hearings and the magazine article being published - well, now it’s a story about a few women being groped, a couple being solicited for sex. They have one witness - not even a victim, but a witness. And even then, it turns out Gil is actually more interested in going after ATN than holding cruises accountable. No one actually cares about the victims, beyond how it can advance their agenda.

Then we also get the list of scandals on the plane in 3.01. The Tiananmen Accommodations, Sally Ann, the tabloid suicides, Argentina. Laird saying (jokingly?) that he’s burned villages for Logan. Cruises is far from the only scandal to publicly rock Waystar, and if the others played out like cruises - with only the tip of the iceberg even being what goes public - well.

I think the question “what if a good person ran Waystar?” is interesting because I think it raises another question - “CAN a good person run Waystar?” And at the end of the day… I think the answer is no. Corruption and evil is baked so thoroughly into the walls of Waystar that I think if a good person did try to run it, either the company would crumble or the person would. I don’t think you can root out the rot without everything coming down; absolute best case scenario is to simply cover it up and not do it in the future. CEO is a fundamentally morally compromised position, and anyone who thinks differently is deluding themselves
