A thing which occurs when I become mildly drunk on an inappropriate evening (when I have work tomorrow, but this is how we're rolling tonight): I once again revert to my teenage self and begin lusting after ladies who front metal bands.
Tumblr media
Tatiana Shmaylyuk - Jinjur
Bassiest growl in metal right now, rivalling the lead singer of Lamb of God, and hot damn but does she make me feel things. The combination of late '90s cleans with deep bass growls is the sexiest thing in metal right now without doubt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Courney LePlante - Spiritbox
Alt metal queen, capable of a solid growl, though she tends toward screaming more than growling. But I am in love with her cleans. She has a real Shirley Manson from Garbage quality to her vocals, and "Rule of Nines" is such a good song. Also "Holy Roller" is deeply sexy when I'm in that mood.
Tumblr media
Taylor Momsen - The Pretty Reckless
Definitely leans more rock than metal, but Taylor has a great rock voice, and the lyrics are excellent. Honestly, if I'm leaning toward classic rock, I will generally go with the Pretty Reckless. And I cannot deny that the lady is gorgeous, has a hell of a voice, and occasionally hates clothing (which, you know what? Respect.).
Tumblr media
Brittney Slayes - Unleash the Archers
What can be said for the queen of power metal? If you like 80s power metal, and really wanted an operatic soprano take it all on and own it, or even if you mostly like rock but like to dip your toe into metal just a little, Unleash the Archers is the joyful, gleeful metal band for you. They sing about BATTLE, and IMMORTALS IN BATTLE, and FREEDOM THROUGH BATTLE. They are ridiculous and so much fun, and Brittney has the most gorgeous powerhouse of a voice in the business right now.
As an operatically trained soprano, hearing someone with similar training go into metal and fucking kill it is so inspiring, and she is so sexy for it.
Anyway, that is my current mildly drunk ramblings about sexy ladies singing metal music. Please enjoy.

do any of you rubes know how lonely it is.
coming back online in late 2018 right as everyone seemed to be in the midst of “20-gay-teen” and it was just thrown out into the open on pure presumption, and someone like me is totally lost and only just digging into what gets her going because she never had many chances growing up. 2018 became 2019, or “20-bi-teen”, and i join ao3 and begin sharing “have your cake and eat it” serially. a fic that plays on my main kink. i think it’s gonna be a hit with the kids because it’s kink, it’s a story… and it isn’t. i start to wonder why this is; is it the fact it’s het? the loving way lars is portrayed? the way it’s written? no one will tell me.
do any of you rubes know how lonely it is.
seeing someone like the green druidess, so proudly display herself for all the world to see and contort something as perfectly natural as sexuality into what she deemed her “raunchy side”, implying that it’s somehow dirty or disgusting… and talked down to me and also inadvertently called me a prude because of the way i display my sexuality, one of the first of the offenses she inflicted onto me, and people rally around her when i stand up for myself. yeah, feminism was taking steps backwards before it was deemed cool in 2023.
do any of you rubes know how lonely it is.
to indulge in kinktober for the second year only to have all of five people reading it, compared to the year before when it really started to seem like people were starting to take me seriously. oh, no, it doesn’t involve “you”, nor does it involve someone ~truly~ hot like james hetfield or peter steele. it can’t possibly be sexy. this person over here is 1000000x hotter!! make this person queen! yeah, only to have it go right to their head and then they act like all other people involved in kinktober are fools. the green druidess all over again: no plagiarism this time but the feelings are present again (feeling like an idiot, feeling humiliated, feeling used and useless…)
i’ve also wondered if the events on october 7 had something to do with it? knowing how everyone on here is so fucking pro-palestine handling the whole thing with about the same level of delicacy as a cannon ball to the face (and are committing and/or complicit in the same atrocities that you accuse israel of; big example being the absence of jewish art or photography—or any nuance for that matter—in the “levant” tag). i find a jewish man sexy, and oh, god forbid i ever do. deny your antisemitism all you want, gen z, but it’s there. deny your racism all you want, but it’s there. deny your sexism all you want, but it’s there.
moreover, your phony activist horse shit has carried over to the elder generations: you have someone like shirley manson, who’s doing the billie eilish thing and conflating her own bullshit (that should have been resolved a long time ago) with the world’s problems while talking out of both corners of the mouth; patti smith, who’s doing the pbs-at-this-time-of-year thing and guilt tripping people into likes; tobi vail, kathleen hanna, and the girls from sleater-kinney, all of whom are being huge bullies about everything now, no matter how pointless the cause is; annie lennox, who’s undoing everything she’s ever fought for; selena gomez, who’s like “i can’t stand seeing people get hurt, wahhhhh~!” i used to adore these women and i cannot believe that they’ve gone by way of gen z. feminism, particularly feminism known for being sex-positive, is a parody of itself now and while i’m not blaming anyone for it, i do feel that gen z and the current generation here on tumblr are accelerating it by declaring that some people are more equal than others, and this has spread out and contaminated everything. it started happening in 2014 with the mantras and beliefs on here going mainstream and it’s still happening, perhaps more so because there are a lot more people on here than back in 2014. it’s terrifying and sad to see your modern living feminist idols turn into fucking parrots, and what’s worse is i really don’t know if they’re doing it to stay relevant or not. the third wave of feminism spearheaded #metoo and sex-positivity: if you don’t value the lives you claim to value, how can i trust you from now on?
do any of you rubes know how lonely it is.
i’m a storyteller. i have about a million different kinks. i have specific tastes. i may write in a way that gets straight to the point but i’m obsessed with details. i identify as “she/her” but i’m not very feminine or girly—in fact, the way i do feminine is quite different with big bold flavors fused with classic and futuristic so it could also err on androgyny—which is apparently not okay. oh, yeah, it’s not “you got banged by them!!” nor does it involve something like breeding kink; if there’s something size kink or double penetration, i better be on my best behavior otherwise no one will approve. it’s certainly not the “plain jane meets boy, sexy times™️ ensue” slog fromthe green druidess. it’s not the ~sizzling~ (read: monotonous and boring) style of adam_is_arting, although my art is a different open letter altogether.
my sexuality isn’t allowed. i’m not allowed.
a generation of snide, smug, cocky, two-faced cunts who decree, “be yourself!” but the second someone like me comes along, you’re like, “oh. no. not okay.” and those of you who are like “but i’m not like that!” do you want an award? i could say, “you’ll learn with time” like i and so many of my peers have, but i don’t think you will. memes have eaten your brains only to puke them out onto a plate made of fortnite and tiktok for all the world to see. just complete mush that i don’t remember after the fact. archaeologists will uncover our history and ask what happened to humanity during this era all because it’s all online and the internet won’t last forever.
yeah, you guys totally call the shots. lol, yeah.

HEAR: Cat Power and Iggy Pop - “Working Class Hero”
Tumblr media
Cat Power + Iggy Pop is a dream come true for post-punk fans. Cat Power’s love letter to Marianne Faithful is a poignant and beautiful take on” Working Class Hero”. Read more and check out the song below: In The Q Records & BANDBOX, along with the Women of Rock Oral History Project recently announced the release of a new benefit album, The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull featuring 19 cover songs from artists including Shirley Manson, Peaches, Lydia Lunch, Tanya Donelly, Cat Power, Iggy Pop, Bush Tetras, Donita Sparks and more! The full album will be available on streaming platforms Dec. 8and special edition vinyl variants can be pre-ordered now via IN THE Q RECORDS and BANDBOX. The double LP features original artwork by Jill Emery (Hole, Mazzy Star). Check out “Working Class Hero” below: The Faithful is a massive love letter to Marianne Faithfull. Everyone involved with this tribute album has graciously and enthusiastically donated their talent, time, and energy so that all profits can go directly to assist Marianne as she recovers from Long COVID. "Marianne has lived a life!! She is a queen to all who know her, and all who adore her! Her framework of contributions to the world of music is unmistakable! Every time I hear her gorgeous vocal sway, I am moved, I am closer to permanence. In a world of dizzying, new fizzling arrows of song and voices, Marianne has always struck the bullseye of my heart and soul. I adore her like no other. A true Dame, beyond words. Royalty forever." — Chan Marshall "I published a book, that was more of a love letter, about Marianne Faithfull in 2021. The depth of my gratitude and devotion can be found in that 40,000 word document, but that was before I got to know the woman behind the icon--or 'the muse', as the boys say. Marianne is funny, smart, intensely creative, an avid reader, and a normal human being who has been through some shit--haven't we all? To me, the fact that Marianne is a regular-ass person who has struggled, overcome addiction, health problems, has experienced love and loss, and continued to amass a musical catalogue as expansive as hers is a testament to her genius. When she lost her voice after contracting Covid, she recorded a spoken word poetry album with Warren Ellis (She Walks in Beauty). The thing about being an icon or a muse is that it doesn't pay the bills--even if you have over 50 records under your belt. Even if you were the It Girl of the swinging sixties. Even if you're Marianne Faithfull. Marianne built a career as a counter-cultural artist, exploring a multitude of genres and styles. She's worked with countless collaborators, musicians, and producers. As a result, her catalog, and career, can't be easily categorized which basically means she never had a chance of reaching the kind of widespread commercial recognition she deserved. My hope with this record is that Marianne sees how loved, respected, and appreciated she is by her successors. I hope that these versions of her songs introduce a new audience to Marianne Faithfull and inspire them to buy her records. I hope that Marianne Faithfull gets the respect she deserves; preferably in this lifetime." - Tanya Pearson, Founder, Women Of Rock Oral History Project Read the full article

A banda substituiu Queens of stone age no palco Skyline. Trio nova-iorquino mostrou animação, mas não conquistou a simpatia do público. Foi difícil para Karen O e sua trupe do Yeah Yeah Yeahs conseguirem chamar atenção da plateia na noite deste sábado (9). E a cantora tentou.

A bonita música Aurora, do disco There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999), é dedicada a Hawkins.

Foo Fighters cantou as músicas My Hero, The Pretender, All My Life e pra encerrar a noite de shows, eles encerraram com a música Best of You e Everlong

LESS THAT 24 HOURS TO GO.
And then I get to see my favorite band* after having had tickets for a year and a half.
Tumblr media
I’m bummed that Garbage only gets to play for 45 minutes, especially since this might be the only touring they do for the new album, but I’ll still enjoy the shit out of it.
(I don’t actually care that much about seeing Alanis Morissette. I still love Jagged Little Pill as an album and songs off of a few others, but I haven’t kept up with her output in any real way since the early 2000s.)
I can’t remember if I mentioned the shenanigans that happened with this concert on here? The polycule got a 4-pack of tickets from Groupon back in Fall 2019. The concert was originally scheduled for July 2020 and, well, we know what happened with that. Then it was rescheduled to July 2021. And then finally rescheduled to September 2021.
And then the breakup happened and I wasn’t sure if I’d still go to the concert, because there would probably be another tour for this album. Except the shirts available are tour shirts for the album, for these dates, so...not so much. Fine, okay. Psyched myself up for doing thing, because it’s 2 months later and there will be 4 of us, so I’d just talk to Kit & Sinclair and it wouldn’t be as awkward as if it were just the two of us.
I emailed J last weekend to sort out transportation details, since we’d vaguely talked about them grabbing me on their way north to the concert (it’s in an outdoor venue about 30 minutes from Portland via the highway, aka not very accessible via public transit). He informed me that he wasn’t in the mood for the concert, because it would be “awkward and uncomfortable”, and said I could try to find someone else to take the ticket. He talked to Kit about transport, and apparently they didn’t want to deal with collecting me. So, I could still go...if I could get to the venue and meet them at the entrance to get in (because the tickets weren’t transferable at all). Cue approximately 24 hours of panic trying to find someone who was free and interested in being my ride/+1.
Luckily, my friend Madeline jumped at the chance to go. So, I get to see my band, avoid seeing my ex, and spend time with a friend. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.
*I believe this will be my 5th time seeing them live - Beautiful Garbage tour (w/ the Distillers & No Doubt) in 2002, Bleed Like Me tour in 2005, Strange Little Birds tour in 2016, & Rage and Rapture tour (w/ Blondie) in 2017.

VC Casting: Maharet/Mekare
I think it'd be wonderful if they could get another famous musician to play a role in the upcoming Hulu series. Someone beloved in the fandom. Peter Murphy and Sting said they were repeatedly asked by fans to play the role of Lestat and though they are now too old to play him, it would still be great if they could do a cameo.
Personally, I would really love to see Shirley Manson play the role of Maharet/Mekare. *_*
Tumblr media
Sure she's older now, but she looks damn good. I don't believe the roles need to be played by a young person. Age isn't central to their storyline the way it is in the case of Lestat or Armand.
