Do you ever think about how Stephen probably had no idea who Orm was when he and Arthur showed up at Devil's Deep, at which point he proceeded to defend him from Aquaman when Arthur just wanted to knock him out and be done with him, and the next time he saw him he risked possession and death to save Mera and Junior, and so he probably had no idea there was anything villainous about him until they started talking about his debt being paid and faking his death to set him free on the iceberg

A Bite of Hope

When Orm and Stephen are taken prisoner and not given enough food, it's a dire situation for Stephen, but Orm's been here before. Food is a sacrifice he's all too willing to make. Until Stephen decides enough is enough.

(Whumptober Day 12 - Starvation, underground caverns, "just a little more")

Stephen huddled against the rough wall of their enclosed section of the underground cavern, leaden exhaustion pinning him to multiple jagged lumps digging into his back. His legs sprawled out uselessly in front of him, his remaining energy devoted to wrapping his arms around his hollow stomach and staying awake. And shivering. Icy air and unforgiving rock that had never known the sun’s warmth pierced straight through a jacket designed for mild spring evenings. There was only one heat source in this cell, and he was currently busy pacing through another agitated search for escape. It was so cold without him. And he was so tired. Maybe if he just slept for a bit…

He’d promised not to sleep when Orm wasn’t keeping an eye on him. He forced his eyes open, squinting through the dim, flickering light of the lone, barely functioning bulb on the ceiling to find his husband confronting the door for perhaps the millionth time, giving it a ferocious, futile shove. “Are you… almost done?”

“I won’t be done until you’re home.” Abandoning his endeavor, Orm kicked it viciously. His frustration echoed throughout the cell with a resounding thud, but he withdrew without further complaint, wobbling on the turn, stumbling over flat ground. Concern lanced through Stephen’s muddled mind, but his bid to voice it died in a cough. At least I’m about to make him sit.

Orm reached his side, his face emerging from the gloom as he knelt down, a worried expression coiling around bruises and cuts and a swollen lip in various stages of healing. He cupped his cheek with a hand so hot it burned. “Is it time for you to eat?”
