wait i saw your doll joints touhou list and im fascinated. i would love to hear your thematic explanations if you're willing to explain
i had to backlog to find this so my memory of it is clearly not great but i'll do my best because if nothing else the way i think now is still much the same as the way i thought then. anyway
original post here. explanation below cut
meiling & sakuya - servants of remilia scarlet. sakuya obviously has some inhuman elements to her but i feel like there's an appeal to making either or both of remilia's servants into doll-type beings. manipulation of fate, puppeteering, all that. alternately, either or both having mechanical prosthetics would just be cool (possibly in the sense of remilia taking some of their flesh upon entering her service, or otherwise)
chen & ran - they're shikigami. fairly obvious really
reisen - the lunar rabbits are probably designed to be a working population to support the lunarians; thus, it'd be interesting if the lunar rabbits were to some degree visibly mechanical, made more obvious by reisen staying on earth longer and her fake skin chipping away to reveal the joints beneath
kaguya - she's just kind of got doll vibes. you either get it or you don't
medicine & hina - they're both dolls. obvious
okuu - for her cannon arm and her legs, you could easily justify mechanical joints given that they're acting out the roles of mechnical devices. bonus points if they have detachable components so that she can swap between her power armour and regular limbs (and more besides)
kogasa, benben, yatsuhashi, raiko - they're tsukumogami, so i think it'd be fun if they looked a bit like puppets (that is, puppets that the spirits of their true bodies are manipulating)
futo & miko - this is more personal flavour but given how shikaisen work i think it'd be interesting if they looked slightly inhuman, and that's best reflected by having them be made of the material they used for their bodies (their plates and sword, respectively). and obviously if you're doing that then having joints is essential
okina - in addition to the obvious element of prosthetics adding onto the idea of her as a god of disabilities i also just think it'd fuck severely if she looked artificial. i already have the idea that she has different masks to represent different aspects of herself so adding that onto an obviously inhuman form would just be extremely cool. just imo
mayumi & keiki - mayumi is already an inhuman construct so that's pretty obvious. keiki's is a bit less intuitive but basically derives from the idea that she's as much a machine as mayumi is, she's simply the machine that makes all the other machines. a much more mechanical god than is usual in touhou; i think it'd be cool if she looked similar to her creations. made in their god's own image, even
enoko - really this just comes down to the idea of more of her body having the aesthetics of her claw-hands. and vibes
makai residents - artificial beings made by shinki. obvious

I have a hc about Futo that’s interesting very sad and and disturbing that she has some injury from becoming a Shikaisen (either happened the moment she reincarnated to one or not that long after it)
And I kinda wanna write something about it, I had thought that the injury affects her brain causing her seeming lack-of-intelligence and behavior.
Miko, who I can see as being Futo’s mom, knows of the injury after getting her checked by a doctor and was devastated- and tried to help her but it barely worked.
Futo has basic communication skills and functions, and that injury IS fatal. So yeah there’s that.
Futo was never told about her injury, and was never told that she’ll eventually “die” (even though they’re technically like zombies they could still die anyway-), Miko wanted Futo to live a happy life regardless. So she never told Futo.
But Futo assumes something is wrong, especially since she has it hard to do things or communicate with others (which wouldn’t be too hard even though she speak in a weird way of the past she could still communicate rather easily) and to use her arms and legs and hands. Often acting reminiscent of a child.
And, when I said Miko was devastated by it, I bet after learning it she had nightmares of losing Futo at any moment until she came to terms with the injury that her friend had. And Miko probably wants to cure it somehow, but they lack a cure for the injury, so Miko dreads the day Futo doesn’t wake up.
Though, the others of Gensokyo also are left in the dark so they just assume Futo’s just dumb. The doctor that Miko and Futo frequently visit had grown used to their almost-weekly visits and grown accustomed to their ways of speech, antics, and even down to understanding Futo’s behavior.
And soon, Futo’ll succumb to the injury, and all Miko has to remember her by is the memories, the hardship, everything, and that hurts Miko so much because they were family friends. Miko probably contemplates joining Futo in death
And, I plan on making a fanfic about it maybe, I can’t bear writing a story that ends sadly, but also this topic may warrant a guaranteed sad ending. And Miko WILL NOT have a good time, trying to ensure Futo’s happy and keep her alive for however long possible. With the dreaded knowledge her friend will die in the back of her mind consuming her subconsciousness with each breath…

32 also for Miko.

"It sure is. You're the mountain hermit I've heard so much about from my clientele, aren't you? Your reputation precedes you but I have to admit the shikaisen in training fail to describe your beauty. I've done a little reading on the Dao outside but I've never had the opportunity to learn from a real hermit. Why don't we find somewhere quiet to discuss its intricacies?"
"How unfortunate, to be so deprived of what you most desire."
"Good thing that's no longer the case for you, huh?"

Tojiko and Futo meeting again after 1400 years
Transcript Below
F: UAAAAHHH TOJIKOOO ~~~~~
F: UAAHHH PLEASE FORGIVE MEEE ~~~~
T: It’s fine. I honestly thought it was Miko all this time.
#touhou#this is all i have for today ;-;#its very late for me to post#i do think that futo killed tojiko But i do not think she did it out of jealousy or anything#i think that miko (sorta?) told her to do it but in an indirect way#i also think a part of it was desperation and anger... she was afraid to go first in the shikaisen process and realized that she had#in part - been taken advantage of by miko and tojiko and so wished to take somebody down with her if she died#thus weakened tojiko's clay jar vessel.#but of course futo lived and tojiko died. futo regretted what she did so immensely for her entire dromancy period#and when she saw that tojiko had become a ghost she was partially relieved and partially so ashamed#i think futojiko are like angsty exes who still have strong feeling for each other but dont have the tools to communicate it#my drawing

She's not a reincarnation, actually. The prince became a shikaisen and made herself a new body that way (and she went and made it into a girl even though if I recall most people who do this just remake their previous bodies). It was straight-up transition plus life extension rather than reincarnation.
She is also a godlike genius saint capable of doing magic and has a sword that can repel evil and blast people with beams of light by being drawn.
Also her cape has a moving pattern and changes colors.
currently going insane over miko's design and backstory. she's actually so cool wtf.
She is the reincarnation of the legendary Prince Shoutoku, which makes her one of the most unambiguously trans touhou characters.
She has the ability to listen to 10 conversations at the same time, but this is very overwhelming for her ears on the daily, so she wears earmuffs to reduce noise which, although it's not the same thing, can be easily interpreted as audio processing issues/autism.
Finally she isn't quite a catgirl but her hair is always cat ear-shaped which is the next best thing.
Also she looks so cool??
trans autistic catgirl-adjacent stateswoman/religious leader? get outta here

Are any of your muses interested in having kids? How are they with children in general?
There's a lot of muses on this blog, so I'm going to keep it to those with strong opinions on the subject one way or another. If anyone doesn't show up here, it's pretty safe to assume it's not a topic they think about much.
Keine, of course, is always around children, and is about as trusted as anyone can be with them - even if her discipline methods are something we wouldn't allow in today's schools! Always being around children, of course, she has put in a good deal of thought as to whether she wants children for herself - and though she's in no rush to make it happen now, it is something she wants someday. Becoming a were-hakutaku has given her all the time in the world to make it happen when she wants, of course, but it is something she wants, and she'd have to reject any relationship that doesn't eventually include them.
Sanae's in a rather similar boat to Keine in many ways - becoming a living god by entering Gensokyo essentially put a lock on her aging, so she has all the time she could ask for to think about whether she wants children. And needless to say, it's something she has thought about a good deal, since she interacts with the village children regularly - up to and including playing soccer with them when she gets a chance. Needless to say she's probably quite popular among the young villagers for this reason. As for children of her own, it's something she likes the idea of but isn't completely fixed on. Her goddesses would probably support the idea, though, which definitely helps.
Orin has actually had children before. Nyalter is one such case, but not the only one. But in typical cat fashion, she isn't exactly a good parent. She knows this, and she isn't keen on trying to have any more. It's hard to say how she is around human children - Orin is very much not allowed in the Human Village. But among the young pets at Chireiden she's quite popular. That counts for something, right?
You might be surprised to see Futo appear in an ask like this. You shouldn't be. She has actually been a mother in the past, though her children are long, long dead, and if she has any living descendants, it's doubtful they're even aware of it. However, those children were with a member of the Soga clan, and though it was her noble duty to conceive them, she never put much care into them. What she truly desires is children with someone she actually loves, though even she isn't sure if such a thing is truly possible with her immortal shikaisen body.
As for whether she's good with kids...
Well, she'd at least be good at putting on a show for them. How good she would be as an actual parent is much more a matter for debate.

There there~ Just be careful not to balloon too fast alright? Though it would be of my liking... quite a bit in fact- It might be troublesome for you. Especially if most of it is going into one place, for the most part.
"I just need to address with Seiga why my Shikaisen is gaining weight so fast, but after that it will be simple to maintain a slightly chubby appearance."

"'Tis only a few minutes! Gaahk..." Oh, she's still coughing a little. But the voice of Miko has gotten her to stand up at least. That shikaisen body is good for something it seems.
"Surely ye did not think that I would be so uncouth as to abandon you merely because of traumatic injury. Nay, where there is a Crown Prince, so too there shall I be!"
@mountainofhistory
"Will she? And leave me without company this evening? How tragic..."

it’s dream time! aka dreamscape event time. aka here are some good memories and then a really, really bad one that just happened to fall in to the mix. now, in her lifetime, miko was formerly a certain historic ruler (albeit in the Fate-like sense, in that there are some fair differences). said differences include having sought out taoism in secret in order to extend her life beyond mortal means and having gone to sleep after technically achieving a form of immortality so that she could rest and wait for a japan that would be ready for her. spoiler: it did not happen and then she woke up in gensokyo! that sums up the differences and, hopefully, gives you an idea of where i’m going here with this weird starter call.
please like this post for a starter! or, read on and find out what you’re getting into, first. i won’t be capping this call since i am not expecting much, but i do appreciate if you read on and see what’s up if you are still interested at this point!
some possible plot points, of which you are free to designate and pick a general idea and reply with instead of liking this post should you specifically want to go down said alley for a starter:
the girls are fighting, also known as any possible incident miko was involved with back in gensokyo, the very-interesting land of fantasy where youkai and humans alike reside. now starring: weird tsukumogami made of 66 masks that i may or may not have made! two sisters who are plague and poverty gods who are robbing people via body swap-possession hijinks! the monk that you may or may not be friends with showing up and causing problems and sometimes working together with! depending on the circumstances, we will be: investigating some mysterious (occult-related) balls that can teleport you to the outside world upon gathering them all OR investigating a mysterious loss of the emotion of hope from the human village OR investigating the very weird body-swapping possession incident where everyone seems to keep getting robbed.
girl help i just woke up from a 1000+ year sleep and everyone is showing up in my mausoleum and wants to fight ft: a shrine maiden, a witch, another shrine maiden, and a half-ghost with identity issues. waking up is hard enough without this nonsense going on.
(#death cw / #dying cw) the more serious option of the lot. miko did attempt, in her lifetime, to refuse death and instead seek eternal life - immortality. unfortunately, the method she chose was, while at the time considered genuine, through cinnabar consumption as part of alchemic potions that inevitably poisoned her and ruined her health. this sort of memory, contrary to the others, would be of the negative sort, as she debates whether or not to try the untested method of becoming a shikaisen through swapping out her (already entombed) body with an object and basically “cheating” death. it was a terrifying and fearful idea for someone who had so hoped to live on past their lifespan to face such an unknown fate. this would probably be a bonding moment of sorts, seeing as this is definitely one of her moments of weakness.
i won’t be using this last one randomly, as i’d prefer we talked it out first or, at the very least, that you want to go down that road as it will definitely pertain to death and dying as subjects to be talked about.
#isola rp ad#i know i made some of these sound not very serious but i promise they can be serious if you'd like to go that avenue!
