"A few ~ but I must admit they're still a bit of a rarity. Taking time to adjust to the new cafe. If we weren't located near their home, I'm sure they would have passed us by."

He gently took hold of Momoyo's hand and guided her to the nearest table. Thankfully the cafe was rather empty right now, otherwise her natural aura would have created a bit of a problem. Seems folks were still too preoccupied with the beach. Who could blame them? From what Toki understood the concept of a beach was rather novel to the people here.

"Urabe Tokifumi, but my friends just call me Toki so you should too. This shrine is actually from the outside world so we're pretty new to Gensokyo. fortunately we've managed to find some pretty good company here. "

It's 3:05 AM in Gensokyo

They had all waited a moment for the power to come back on but after a minute they all realized this was not just some flicker. Kiki recalled the candles within the breakroom and slipped off to grab one. Stumbling around through the dark wasn't much of a challenge. She knew the shrine well enough to find her way.

As she pushed open the door she was struck by a strong odor. It smelled almost like sulfur in the room. Now, without the power, the circle of candles burning in its center felt just slightly ominous as they cast faint blue light around the room. Blue? She hadn't noticed that when the lights were on. Guess they must be novelty candles. Or ... it's something to do with the smell? She remembered that copper sulfate made things burn green, so maybe sulfur on its own burned blue?

"That's a little ridiculous. If the room was full of sulfur-dioxide, I wouldn't be able to breath. Or it'd just rush out when I opened the door. Something like that. Gas doesn't stay in one place, right? Toki's one friend was a physicist, I'll ask her next time."

Talking to herself helps to shake off some of her nerves from the storm as she gathered up the candles. Actually, now that she thought about it, she couldn't hear the storm anymore. Maybe they were in its eye. As she laid out the candles upon the table, Toki noticed that the sounds of the storm did not return. Nor did they return as the three sat down to finish their meals.

Eventually thirty minutes had passed and the power still hadn't come back on. Hikari said something about calling the owner to ask if they could go home but only a few moments later she was complaining that she had no phone reception. Maybe the storm had knocked down a powerline and the phonelines? Did phones still need lines anymore?

The three decided it was best to just close for the night. There was no telling when the power would be back on and the chances of anyone coming in at this point wear quickly approaching zero. Hikari went off to clean the kitchen and Toki to close the register. Both doing as best as they could with no light. Kiki would start sweeping soon but first she wanted to see if the neighbors had power.

With a candle for light she made her way to the shrine's entrance and stepped out. Something immediately felt odd. The grove of willows around the shrine blocked out a lot but normally the tops of buildings peeked up from above them. Well it was dark, if their power went out as well then there really wasn't any light to illuminate them. That was the justification she gave in her head but Kiki felt unease growing in her body with every step she took towards the Torri.

She crossed beneath its threshold and stepped out onto the grass. Grass? This should be sidewalk but it wasn't. The sidewalk wasn't there. Nor was the road. The streetlamps. Any of the other buildings on the street. Her brain tried to rationalize it by insisting that it was simply to dark to see anything but that was not the case. She knelt down and placed her hands on the ground, it was dirt and grass not concrete.

There was no city to be found at all. They seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. What was, from the outside a brand new was not laying at the foot of Youkai Mountain, not too far removed from the pathway visitors took to visit the Moriya Shrine. Gensokyo had three new outsiders.

The broom based assault stops. He ends his attack and withdrawals the tool back into the shrine.

"The fact that you're a youkai is reason enough not to take your deal ... but I've had enough of this game. Fine, I'll take your deal. It's not like I have to clean the willows. Hop off onto them and in return I'll come out. But if you try to eat me, I will be shoving the broom in your face and slamming the door on you."

It seemed that for the time being the two had a deal. In truth, Toki was quite curious. After having an entire building magically ripped away, he was quite ready to believe that youkai existed. Which meant that he was quite interested in seeing one.

"Why do you care about shoe marks?! It's just a roof! Nobody's going to go up there and see that." States the one currently up on the roof, walking around up there. Without even a beat to it, just frustration. Even a fiddler would be better up there than whatever this person is.

Huh, and the steps aren't really that consistent either. Moving rather far for each one, more like a jump than anything. But jumping is dangerous up there! And likely to cause someone to cave into the roof if it isn't well built, but the lack of screams is a clear sign of that not happening. The voice doesn't stop though as it fired back!

"What? Do you think I'm a Youkai?! I'm not a nefarious scoundrel!" Says again the one trying to lure him out for some reason, but after a quick breather they lower their voice. "But if you really don't want me on the roof, I can just go over to...Ah, those willows look like a good place. And in exchange, you can finally step out."

Does he want to take that deal?

The Price of Friendship

Pro: He is genuinely pretty sweet and caring. Especially once you get passed the mask he puts on to avoid awkward interactions.

Con: Bro seems to be lacking a self-preservation instinct. You're getting dragged into danger.

Flirty or Shy?

This one is no question, Toki is very flirty. As a waiter/entertainer at a themed cafe charming customers is just part of his job and he's gotten very used to it. To the point that sometimes he struggles to bite his tongue at times where he really shouldn't be flirting. He is trying to work on it though. The last thing he needs is getting kidnapped by mountain hags again,

Relationship Role

This one is highly circumstance dependent. As a general rule Toki likes to be the one who is proactive and who organizes dates. The one that's generally taking charge within the relationship. However, he does not want to be controlling. If his partner isn't comfortable with that he's very happy to let them takes the reins. When he is the one that's kinda got the foot forward, he always attempts to consult with them and work them into the decision making. After all, a relationship is a two (or more) person thing.

Recognizing Needs

Yep he's really good with this one, actually. Toki is a pretty attentive partner and tends to pick up on when something is wrong or isn't going right. Really attentive of whatever his partner needs and is happy to do what he can for them.

Roan's response drew a laugh from Toki. Yes, it was true, not having your way was always dangerous yet there was something wonderful about a journey where you don't know the destination. Life is all about the journeys after all.

"Am I looking for someone? I suppose you could say that, yes."

He twirls his staff in his hand before slamming it into the ground. It was no threat, his arm was just growing tired from pointing it. Still it added a bit of dramatic flair to his following statement.

"I'm seeking magicians! Preferably smart and knowledgeable ones that know something about teaching."

"How long have you been wandering out here?"

There may yet have been a spot of luck for Toki! Being out in the Forest of Magic wasn't the most ideal situation for the average human.

Though there were a few safe spots, it was mostly a dangerous place. Maybe this person needed some guidance?

"Have you lost your way?"

The cafe had become settled now. Being spirited away had seemed inconceivable but within the few months that followed it had almost become routine. For Kiki it may have been a challenge but a land of fantasy was just where Toki had always wanted to be.

He had heard tell of a forest of witches from those clients that dwelled at the foot of the mountain. For a normal human and scholar, human magicians were far easier to connect to than youkai. His first journey into the mystical forest had been a disaster. He was paralyzed the entire day, thankfully a friendly sparrow took him back to the cafe. To think anyone could live around such toxic fungi.

He had no idea why there was a gas mask in the cafe's storage but it proved functional enough. He believed this second journey would be far more fruitful. The only fruit it bore was more tragedy, as he found himself lost amid twisting woods. Were trees supposed to get this big in Japan?

Suddenly a voice drew his attention. He turned to face the other, raising his walking staff to point towards them.

"Stop! I am under the protection of the Mori-"

... Oh wait. This was not a youkai threatening to eat him. They looked human. humanish. Tough to see through the mask. Well they don't have any protection, must be safe here. A hand raises. There is a metallic click as he removes the mask. Now that he can see clearly, the bear ears suggest human isn't quite apt. Still, he seems friendly enough.

"You can't lose what you never had, my friend!"
