How long do you soak in the bathtub? At least 30 mins.

This is the 100th question. Your reflection on this experience? A lot of effort having to read all that right? GJ on your hard work. There were 2 questions I can't really answer.

Interviewer: Let's go over some of your more interesting answers. Interviewer: Unforgettable scenery: a waterfall in Nagano. KY: So yeah, a long time ago I drove to Nagano, and on the way to the inn there was a sign saying 'this way to a big waterfall'. I've always liked waterfalls, so when I saw it I thought to take a detour to see it. I followed the path and reached a mountain, at which there was another sign saying 'you have to walk a distance from here'. Back then I thought that it would've been easier to get there as I continued walking. Suddenly, though it was in the middle of the mountains, it opened into a Laputa-like (Castle in the Sky) vast grassy field. I was touched by the views, and as I was wondering where the waterfall was I saw it in the far off distance. The scenery was fantastic and I thought of visiting it again, but later on while searching for it (online) I found that a landslide had occurred. The path got buried and was unrestorable, so it's become an off-limits place. Interviewer: So it's also a mystical place.

Interviewer: Next qualification to get: wine expert. How is it different from a wine sommelier? KY: Actually I was considering getting a wine sommelier certification, but the reason I've been unable to is… For wine expert and wine sommelier certification, the examination and tasting session happen together, but for wine sommelier there's an extra requirement of 3 years of practical experience. Even if I buy wine from shops or drink at restaurants, 3 years of practical experience is kinda… it would be difficult for me to take up another part time job while working as a seiyuu. But well, the examination for wine expert and wine sommelier are basically the same, and I thought it'd be nice to have that certification.

Interviewer: Recommended vacation spot: stopping by Umihotaru (a parking area on an artificial island with a lot of facilities and amenities, and a 360º view of surrounding waters) KY: LOL. I don't really go on trips regularly, so I can't think of any regular vacation spots, but at night when I have to drive somewhere I'd often pass by Umihotaru. I've gone there a lot since I'd been able to drive, so it's a place I'd recommend going to at least once, especially at night. Interviewer: The night view? KY: At night it would be pretty much fully dark so there's nothing to see, and in that stark darkness I'd feel like, 'I gotta keep on living…' Interviewer: LOL. Survival instinct. KY: But as the surrounding sea's fully dark, I guess it might just be scary for a scaredy cat. Anyway if you're travelling to Chiba, you can stop by it on the way. It's a rest spot. You can eat seafood and sushi there, and there are plenty of fun things to do, so do drop by.

Interviewer: Others' impression of you: Undignified KY: I don't remember when exactly, probably about 2 years into my debut, I was called into a place where a nomikai for an unrelated series was happening. The studio had 2 booths, one was for the anime team and one was for an unrelated game team. Just as I was leaving there was some hubbub on scheduling issues. An actor I knew was there and asked me, "We're just about to go drinking. Come join us?" "I'm an outsider though, is it ok?" "I'm coming then" so I went, and during the gathering I chatted with the head of the project. As he was asking, "How old are you now, Kobayashi?" I believe I was 30 then, so I said "I'm 30 years old" and he responded, "30!? You don't carry yourself with dignity, do you?" Even now I'm still in shock at what they said. I wonder if I supposed to be dignified in my 30s? (30代って貫禄出るものなのかな) But anyway at that time I was in a place where I barely knew anyone so I was putting in effort to liven up the conversation, maybe I was too hyper and that's why they said that. From then I kind of toned it down a bit. Still, it was probably a good stimulus.

Interviewer: Last one: Been told you're like a flying squirrel KY: For this one, even I don't really get why. Interviewer: Flying squirrel-like, eh? KY: Well, this happened during my appearance at an event. The makeup artist was there. Sometime during the event we had to come up with 2 names, so I had to think of something. Anyway, while I was thinking of 2 names for myself... When I asked the makeup artist who had been working with us a few times, "What kind of image or impression do you have of me?" They said, "Actually since a long time ago, I thought you're like a flying squirrel..." Interviewer: lol what part of you resemble a flying squirrel KY: "Your face resembles one..." so I immediately went to search for a picture of a flying squirrel and I don't look like one. It was just that person's impression, and in my whole life that was the first time I've been told that I resemble one, so now that I was asked this I thought I should respond with, "It seems like I resemble a flying squirrel." I guess this is the only time I'll ever mention this. Mm-hm. Interviewer: That was quite an impression.

Interviewer: So to wrap things up. KY: Again, I'm not a particularly interesting person. So that will be all for this video. [channel subscriber spiel] Byebye~

Watch Gundam Wing OP Song Lyric Videos from TWO-MIX's 25th-Anniversary Best Album

The YouTube channel for the two-member unit TWO-MIX's 25th-anniversary project is now streaming lyric videos for the two OP theme songs for the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing TV anime - "JUST COMMUNICATION" and "RHYTHM EMOTION" - from their upcoming best album "TWO-MIX 25th Anniversary ALL TIME BEST" to be released on January 20, 2021.

The electronic pop unit consisting of vocalist Minami Takayama (the voice of Conan Edogawa in Detective Conan) and lyricist/keyboardist Shiina Nagano made their major debut with their first single "JUST COMMUNICATION" on April 29, 1995. Then, "RHYTHM EMOTION" was released as their second single on November 22 of the same year. Both became one of the most iconic anime theme songs of the mid-1990s in Japan.

They have released 21 singles and seven original albums in their 25-year career. "TWO-MIX 25th Anniversary ALL TIME BEST" will include more than 20 songs that are carefully selected from their history, such as "JUST COMMUNICATION," "RHYTHM EMOTION," "WHITE REFLECTION" (6th single / January 15, 1997 / Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz theme song), "LAST IMPRESSION" (12th single / July 23, 1998 / Gundam Wing Endless Waltz -Special Edition- theme song), and "TRUTH -A Great Detective of Love-" (13th single / November 26, 1998 / TV anime Detective Conan 5th OP theme).

デビュー当時は、所属していた「イズムアーティスト」の方針で「ヴァーチャルアーティスト」という触れ込みで売り出ていたため、CDジャケットやライナーノーツには本人達の写真は加工されていたり、判別しにくいサイズで掲載されているが、本作に至ってはジャケットの裏面に高山みなみと永野椎菜の顔写真がはっきりと写されており、TWO-MIXのロゴの下面に『MINAMI TAKAYAMA & SHIINA NAGANO』と記載されている。これは、ジャケット撮影の後に行われた記念写真のスナップが間違って使われたもので[7]、永野はデザイン会社へ抗議したものの、当時デザイン会社内で人間関係のトラブルがあり、とばっちりで嫌がらせを受けたため[8]、毎回意味不明の写真が使われた。この状態が3rdシングルの「T・R・Y -RETURN TO YOURSELF-」まで続いたという。本作以降のシングルで、本人達の顔写真がはっきり写されている作品は11枚目のシングル「BEAT OF DESTINY」からである。

Ce matin je suis partie au travail en ecoutant en boucle Just Communication. Meme si je ne l'ecoute plus souvent ca reste ma chanson preferee.

TWO-MIX

Just Communication est le 1er single et LE tube de TWO-MIX, un duo de jpop compose de Shiina Nagano (compositeur/musicien) et Minami Takayama (chanteuse et doubleuse, qui double notamment Conan de Detective Conan et fut un temps mariee au mangaka Gosho Aoyama). TWO-MIX, c'est une musique et des visuels au style mortellement 90s, inimitablement kitsch, c’est les annees 95-2000, c’est la fete du slip du synthe, c’est l’epoque de la para para dance et des platform boots, des CGI cosmiques degueulasses… et j’adore ca. J’ai collectionne leur discographie mp3 a une epoque ou internet etait limite en temps de connexion comme en bande passante, ou on se connectait avec un modem qui fait criouiirrrrrgggrrrhhhhkiiiiii, c’est pour dire a quel point j’etais fan. Et si aujourd’hui je regarde la discographie de TWO-MIX avec un peu d'embarras, je trouve toujours Just Communication aussi parfaite. Cette chanson tient la route et vieillit comme aucune autre de TWO-MIX. Ou comme aucune autre de son epoque. Elle a un cachet a la fois tres japonais, tres musique d’anime, sans que je puisse trouver une seule chanson identique, que ce soit en jpop, en musique d'anime, dans la discographie Gundam ou dans celle de TWO-MIX meme.

Koji Makaino

J’ai toujours ete convaincue que Just Communication est aussi reussie parce que contrairement aux autres chansons du groupe, la musique n’a pas ete composee par TWO-MIX mais par Koji Makaino. Je pense que peux de fans occidentaux savent que ce n'est pas TWO-MIX qui a compose la musique de Just Communication et qu'encore moins connaissent Koji Makaino. C'est un compositeur prolifique, qui a compose beaucoup de musiques d'anime et de chansons de Johnnys (ne rigolez pas tout de suite). Pour ma part, je le connais surtout pour avoir compose les plus grands tubes d'Otokogumi. Maintenant que vous etes en train de googler Otokogumi vous pouvez vous etouffer de rire devant leurs degaines so 80s. Mais fermez les yeux et vous avouerez (si vous n'etes pas intrinsequement allergiques aux annees 80) Daybreak, Aki et autre Timezone sont tueries. Koji Makaino, pour moi, c'est un genie qui peut composer des chansons qui restent credibles 30 ans apres avoir ete chantees par une bande de gringallets prepuberes tout droit sortis Lucie Amour et Rock'n'Roll (soulignons toutefois que j'accorde aussi beaucoup de credit a cette bande de gringallet pour avoir compose Rollin’ In The dark, leur meilleur morceau selon moi).

Gundam Wing

Just Communication, c'est avant tout le 1er opening de Gundam Wing, la 1ere serie Gundam que j'ai regarde. J'avais 15 ans, et j'ai toujours aime les anime de mecha, depuis si jeune que je ne m'en rappelle pas (c'est ma mere qui me dit que j'adorais regarder Goldorak alors que je ne m'en souviens meme pas). Alors quand GW a debarque sur les petits ecrans francais apres un embargo d'une dizaine d'annees sur l'animation japonaise (embargo auquel je crois que c'est Pokemon qui a mis fin), j'etais extatique.

Cet anime etait si beau et si sophistique (meme presque 10 ans apres sa realisation). L'histoire etait intrigante et complexe (aujourd'hui je dirais que c'etait le bordel, je n'ai rien compris a la saison 2). Le chara design et superbe et l'animation pas degueulasse pour un anime de 1995 (moins fluide qu'Evangelion je dois dire, mais le chara design etant plus complexe c'est comprehensible). J'enregistrais tous les episodes et je les revisionnais tellement que je connaissais les episodes IMAGE PAR IMAGE. J'avais veritablement decortique chaque image dans tous les details. Je reconnaissais les episodes animes par differents animateurs. C'etait de la folie furieuse. J'aimais particulierement l'opening (aussi bien la video que la musique), dont j'ai toujours regrette que la VF (1) soit gachee par une voix off ridicule (2) soit montee un peu differemment de la version originale. Je l'ai rembobine et revu tellement de fois que c'est un miracle que je n'ai jamais nique une casette ou le magnetoscope. J'ai ecoute la musique si souvent que c'est un miracle que mon discman n'en soit pas mort.

Parlons de cet opening s'il vous plait. Pourquoi Heero se cache-t-il derriere sa main? Et pourquoi a-t-il besoin d'avoir l'air aussi cool pour ca? C'est quoi cet opening ou le heros se fait latter la gueule? Pourquoi coller sur des combats de robots geant des paroles qui parlent d'amour sous une pluie battante? Cet opening est a l'image de Gundam Wing : plus on y regarde bien et plus cette serie est WTF et delicieusement bizarre.

Heero Yuy

Tous les personnages de cette serie sont plus ou moins petes du casque, mais celui qui remporte la palme, c'est quand meme Heero. Heero se balade en marcel et en short moulant qu'il pleuve, qu'il vente ou qu'il neige. Il peut tomber d'un immeuble de 50~ etages et s'en tirer avec juste une fracture… qu'il remet en place tout seul. Il passe son temps a essayer de s'autodetruire et il echoue a chaque fois (il essaye litteralement se mettre fin a ses jours a chaque episode pendant les 10 premiers episodes, il se calme seulement au bout du 10eme quand l'autodestruction de son gundam l'envoie dans le coma). Il dit “je vais te tuer” a Relena a peu pres autant de fois qu'il a essaye de se tuer lui-meme, mais c'est que de la gueule, il ne tuera jamais Relena malgre les appels de cette derniere : “Heero, viens me tuer, je t'attends!” (ca sonne encore plus bizarre dans la VO, ou elle dit ca en keigo). Bref, ce gamin est anti-social, il est probablement autiste, et il est clairement suicidaire. Mais j'avais et j'aurai toujours beaucoup d'affection pour ce personnage, pas juste parce qu'il est trop beau et que c'etait mon anime crush de jeunesse, mais parce que je me reconnaissais en lui et que ca a change ma vie.

Le moi de 15 ans avait beaucoup de choses en commun avec le roi du suicide rate (a part les tentatives de suicides ratees). Je n'ai jamais saute d'un immeuble de 50 etages, mais je ne connaissais pas le froid (c'etait avant de venir au Japon et de decouvrir le confort du aircon), je me suis deja remis un os casse en place (c'etait pas un femur non plus) mais surtout, en tant qu'etre humain je n'en menait pas plus large que Heero. Je ne rentrerai pas dans les details parce que (1) c’est effrayant (2) j’aurais peur de realiser que toute ma vie post-15 ans n’est qu’un mensonge. Disons juste que ca a ete comme de me voir dans un miroir et de me dire “merde je ressemble a ca?”.

Je n’ai jamais reussi a regarder la saison 2 de Gundam Wing avec autant d’attention que la 1ere. Je ne sais pas si c’est a cause des troubles de deficit d’attention dont je souffre depuis que j’ai un smartphone ou juste parce que cette saison 2 est un bordel sans nom. Je ne suis pas certaine du message que la serie essayait de transmettre. Mais j’en ai retenu 2 choses : Heero est pete du casque, et Just Communication est trop cool.
