Detective Conan/Case Closed Re-Read Through: Volume Fifteen

In this volume it concludes the case at the Ski Lodge where Ran/Rachel, Sonoko/Serena, and Shinichi/Jimmy’s old elementary school teachers are. There’s a reporter there as well, and Rachel ends up having to deduce the case. Then the Detective Boys/Junior Detective League run into Minami, a member of the popular music group Two-Mix. They end up assisting her because the other member of her group was kidnapped. After that Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan stumble upon the murder of the head of a financial company when he doesn’t show up to play Mahjong with Kogoro/Richard and his coworkers. And finally Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan are invited to the house of the chairman of a financial group as prestigious as Sonoko/Serena’s family. Heiji/Harley shows up, because he was there as well and suggested that the chairman invite Kogoro/Richard, Ran/Rachel, and Conan.

Least Favorite Thing:

Shinichi/Jimmy freaking out about how he’s going to make his deductions because there’s a reporter there who is going to report the incident. He shouldn’t even be in this situation in the first place. the struggle

Most Favoritest Thing:

“Don’t worry, Rach! I’m with ya!! Have confidence!!” I love how supportive Shinichi/Jimmy is of Ran/Rachel and how he was encouraging her. 

Funniest Moment:

Minami Takayama is the voice of Conan in the Japanese anime of Detective Conan, and was in Two-Mix. So, this is pretty entertaining. 

These three suspects kept moving freely around the financial office where the crime took place and were being very condescending towards the police. Finally, Kogoro/Richard and Inspector Megure had enough of their crap and yelled at them, lmao.

Probably, the first of many incidents where Heiji/Harley calls Conan “Kudo” by mistake. Watch yourself, Heiji/Harley.

Saddest Moment:

Conan collapsing from inhaling too much smoke when they’re trapped in a burning building. Anytime Conan gets hurt it makes me sad. 

Cutest Moment:

Conan saying that Two-Mix’s songs are “not bad.” 

This interaction is super adorable in my opinion. Conan threatens him with his tranquilizer, lmao. 

Favorite Case:

This case is another one that I remember quite vividly from when I first read this series a long time ago. Mostly because Ran/Rachel solves the case while listening to Shinichi/Jimmy’s deductions on the cell phone earring. can we bring the cell phone earring back? 

I’m not sure if Ran/Rachel ever solves another case like this again. I don’t remember another case like this, but I could be wrong. Given Ran/Rachel’s reaction though, I wouldn’t be surprised if Shinichi/Jimmy decided that he wouldn’t put her through it again. 

Also, I feel like she knows that Conan is Shinichi/Jimmy here

Favorite Character:

Minami being a badass and kicking the crap out of this guy! I didn’t remember this at all and I thought it was really awesome, lmao. 

That’s it for this volume! I’m behind two more volumes right now and I’m going to be busy the next couple of days, but I’ll try to get them out soon! Until then!

Noodle Baby.

No one knows from where this little eldritch creature shows up, but Jazz loves them all the same. It's evident that some of their parentage denotes the Deployer's coding- as little noodle monster waggles their proto-cables at him in glee. Dark plating covering darker protoform with lavender biolights and optics- little Twomix is an absolute little joy.

Like most Polyhexian bits, they cling to one parent or the other like a small gecko, their grip helped by the data-cables that latch into places and against seams. Now and then, Jazz or Soundwave's own data-cables use an adaptor so that the bit can sync in with them. Their little processor is full of interest about the world around them, and it takes them until their first reframe for them to actively use their vocalizer.

Jazz teaches them hand-speak, as well as Soundwave teaching them how to speak with their field. They're not mute, but they don't prefer to speak until they want to. Neither parent pushes them, giving them plenty of things to read, and plenty of things to play with. In the end, Jazz doesn't get to keep Twomix. It's not that he doesn't love them, it's because he does.

In the end, deployer models have always been more affiliated with the Decepticon movement, and Soundwave is the most obvious identifier of this. Trying to raise a bitlet like that in Autobot territory would wind up with his bitlet and himself ostracized by other mechanisms, and 'Mix would never be accepted. He loads the bitlet up with pictures and toys, small things he knows that the other will love. He hopes that Twomix won't ever see him on the battlefield, that he'll remember his other parent as a happy one that loved him so very much.

He tries not to let his sorrow suffuse his field when he holds 'Mix for the last time. Tries not to let his servos shake as they let go, or his frame to rattle in the sheer wave of grief and loss that colors through his field before can recall it back. The way he stares at Soundwave, imploring and begging- before forcibly turning his face away.

He feels like he just tore out a piece of himself, dying by inches.

It kills him to give the bitlet over, but he does- knowing that Soundwave would rather rip out his own spark than have the bitlet hurt. It shouldn't surprise him how deep the pain goes as he watches them retreat- how much he wants to run after them both and just give up his position as the 3IC and just go full neutral.

But he can't, and he knows neither can Soundwave.

In the end, it's about what's safest for Twomix- and that's not with him.
