okay i have to say i am actually a strong defender of Snake That Makes You Evil. it sounds stupid on paper but thats only if u take it at face value? i do actually think the concept is crazy good what with the venom slowly corrupting how garmadon thinks about things and him being fully aware but unable to stop it.

its also not Just the venom that makes him evil. in the spinjitzu brothers books you can actively watch the fsm and wu and… really EVERYONE around garmadon become more and more wary of him despite not much really changing. it becomes a permanent blight on him that he is repeatedly told he needs to cure. but he hasnt really even changed in his own eyes

i personally prefer it to have been a pure fateful accident but the involvement of the overlord in the bite makes it arguably even more tragic. it becomes more than a childish mistake. garmadon was doomed from the moment he was born.

Would like to add some lines from the show that make me raise eyebrows, because I'm glad to see someone other than me and one friend talking about this.

In S4, when the ninja and Garmadon up and disappear in the middle of the night, leaving Misako, Nya and Wu to look for them:

Wu: Wherever they are, at least they are with my brother.

Misako: That's what worries me.

S8, Lloyd fleeing Dareth's apartment with baby Wu as Nya and Misako prepare to fight revived Garmadon:

Nya: Are you sure you're up for this?

Misako: I was married to him once, I'm up for anything

Hi Angel and her 3am thoughts here but-

I think we as a fandom need to start talking about the fact there’s a good chance Garmadon wasn’t a good husband before S2’s finale.

Like, by the time he and Misako got together and had Lloyd, Garmadon was on the tipping point of the venom taking over, a few years if that away from it consuming him entirely like we see in the Battle Between Brothers short.

We also learn in the Spinjitzu Brothers books just how the venom manifests in Garmadon (and keep in mind this is when he’s a TEENAGER, so hundreds, if not thousands of years before Misako is even BORN), which it’s shown to come as extreme intrusive thoughts of sorts. In Lair of Tanabrax it keeps nagging at him to let Wu suffer at the hands of Tanabrax and what does Garmadon do? He does. Now, he immediately regrets this and works to save Wu from then on, but still, if that’s the way it was when Garmadon was a teenager, able to make him sit and watch his brother’s soul be ripped from his body, just how bad is it after several centuries or millennia?

I’m not saying Garmadon was some abusive asshole who didn’t love Misako, not in the slightest. But I am saying he probably wasn’t great to her at times, especially as the Battle Between Brothers drew nearer and the venom was gaining more and more control of him. He definitely loved her for sure, and I believe how we see him behave around her as Sensei Garmadon is how he was most of the time…

But when the going got tough? When he was angry or they had a disagreement over something? When Garmadon was most vulnerable to the venom’s influence? I wouldn’t be surprised if Garmadon took his anger too far with the venom getting harder and harder to resist.

So yeah that’s my stream of consciousness thoughts on the matter atm. I should probably get to bed.
