Hello and welcome to: Frankie once again has brainrot for the silly black-haired man. This time, I was listening to Cobra by Mcbaise and this somehow clinked into me losing my shit over the concept of Wallace being a murderer. Here you go! Two things for you.
How would he get to this point? Girl, idk. But his grandparents are probably very disappointed. Also, there's one survivor and I'm sorry to all of you Syvlia fans: she is not it. Your GOAT dies here, I'm afraid.
It's Joyce because my friend's favorite WH character is Julie (and so, Joyce is their favorite by extension) and they held me at imaginary gunpoint to make it so she was the survivor.
(And for the record: I will draw more of this. It's triggered something in my box turtle-sized brain.)
UHHHMMMMMMM anyways:
Wallace is a silly man @lizaisdrawing. Give him a big kiss on the forehead for me. Love that silly boy always. (he got too silly though)
Err bye.

does kayne know his daughter is alive.
no, listen. hear me out.
this is gonna be a lot of me interpreting kayne very specifically, but kayne DOESN'T lie. he withholds information but he does not lie. and here, he speaks as if... like he doesn't realize that lilith HAS met arthur. that she DOES love him. that he's her favorite.
and i don't have the ep 50 transcript but i believe that when lillith is being explained to arthur, mother darkness says that she was the forgotten one trapped within hattie. being FORGOTTEN, to me, sounds like "presumed dead," specifically by other gods. oscar described it as a great entity being "trapped." if lillith has been trapped long enough, which, if we're going by what mother darkness said, it has been a LONG time, it's possible her father doesn't think she's alive. or at least she's not coming back from where she was trapped.
"why would he call his dead daughter a bitch" you raise a good point. i could say he's a weirdo and call it a day, but also, the full line is:
im not exactly arguing that lillith is DEAD, im arguing that she's lost enough power that it is the equivalent of being dead to the other gods. based off what kayne says, it seems that lillith has a habit of liking humans (probably what got her originally trapped within hattie) and messing with them. i think this particular comment is more a memory. like a "ah, someone messing with a human because they like them. my daughter used to do that..."
so to bring me to my point, because lillith is a shapeshifter and because (supposedly) kayne isn't really paying attention to what's going on in season five (based on:)
(whether he's not paying attention because he CAN'T (blackstone) or he WON'T i cannot say) the point is, he wouldn't have seen lillith alive. and when mother darkness explains lillith to arthur they are hidden with the hand of malevolence. PLUS, dead children are kind of A Thing in this show, idk if you noticed (faroe, addison, marie's son, malam, mother darkness and the witch...). so, the idea of kayne seeing lillith, his daughter, resurrected to her full self after being dead for years, doesn't seem so far off for the overall themes of the show.
plus, i think it gives him and arthur something to talk about. and adds a fun flavor to his character. the way he talks to arthur about faroe? while having a daughter of his own he believes to be dead? actually insane.
sorry that's a lot. anyway.

⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ FAKE DATE? NO, THIS IS A HEIST [eddie munson x reader]
pairings: grown up!eddie munson x reader
⇢ ˗ˏˋ SUMMARY ୨୧ There's a fancy family event you need a fake date for. Eddie agrees...but only if he gets to masquerade as a mysterious rich heir with a tragic backstory. Everything is smooth sailing until Auntie gets nosey and starts questioning him, and he totally commits to the act.
⇢ ˗ˏˋ WARNING ୨୧ none tbh, but lemme know if anything triggers you!
a/n: s5 is literally coming, and I can't be nothing more than nostalgic.
When you asked Eddie Munson to be your fake date for your cousin's wedding, you knew you were bargaining with the devil. Fun, quiet, and easy was far fetched with him. All you needed was a warm body to stand next to you and nod once in a while to relatives asking if you were seeing someone. This way, you could sidestep those pesky questions about 'when are you settling down?'
But Eddie? Eddie had other plans.
From the second you saw his attire, you knew, you were in trouble, when he walked up to your house in a proper suit; no band tee glamored blazer, no half-button with that signature 'I don't care' energy, but the 'i am so mature, but just for today'.
The suit was a bit too big on him (probably cause it was thrifted), curls a bit tidied up for the Eddie Munson to have, and worse yet, he had them sunglasses on indoors... At 6 p.m.
"Why do you look like you're about to sell me a stolen car?" You commented.
Eddie grinned and flipped down his shades, "Because, darling," he drawled, pretending it was old Hollywood, "This is not just a fake date. This is a performance."
You groaned; this was already giving you regrets about your life choices.
From there, Eddie was fully committed to whatever persona he had just conjured in his mind. He strutted down the hallway with a sense of ownership, brazenly slinging his arm over your shoulder and casting his best toothy grin at strangers.
Now your favorite moment of the night. Aunt Linda.
Aunt Linda was the family's self appointed human lie detector. She knew one hundred percent when anyone was faking a relationship. This woman could smell a phony date like a bloodhound—and you were so close to fleeing her interrogation—until baam! She trapped you near the dessert table, glaring down Eddie like he was an alley alleyway dog she thought you picked up on the way.
"Oh, sweetling!" Aunt Linda cooed. "And who is this handsome young man?"
Eddie, with all the style in the world, defiantly withdrew his sunglasses (in slow motion for dramatic effect).
"Edwardo Von Munson," he said with a low sultry drawl, grabbing your hand, as if you were a delicate victorian woman suffering from a case of vapours.
You almost coughed on your drink. "Pardon?"
Eddie tightened his grip slightly. A signal. Don't go out of character.
"Oh my!" Aunt Linda beamed. "And what is it that you do, Edwardo?"
Eddie leaned in as though probing the depths of his very existence. "I am..." pause, dramatic effect, "An orphaned oil tycoon."
Silence.
You were staring at him in utter horror.
"Orphaned?" Aunt Linda echoed across the hall.
Eddie nodded solemnly. "Tragic accident. My parents...lost at sea. Swallowed whole by the cruel mistress they called the Atlantic."
Aunt Linda put a hand on her heart. "Oh, how awful!"
Pinching the bridge of your nose, you said, "Eddie—"
"Edwardo, darling," he corrected, smooth as ever.
You shot him a glare.
"But how did you two meet?" Aunt Linda pressed, practically drooling over this sordid narrative.
Your mouth opened to say something normal, like, 'Through mutual friends' or something cliché, 'At a record store.' But Eddie was already grasping your hand again.
"I saved her," he proclaimed, eyes sparkling with fake sorrow, "from a gang of highly trained jewel thieves."
Jesus Christ.
Aunt Linda was lost on the last bit. "Jewel thieves?"
He nodded seriously. "She was in dire peril. Surrounded. Nowhere to run. Nothing but her wits and her—" He turned to you. "What do you do again?" He whispered
You shot daggers at him. "Retail."
"—her wits and her retail expertise to protect her!" Eddie turned back to Aunt Linda, his curls bouncing as he threw himself into this insanity. "I swooped in, fought off seven armed men with nothing but a mini pocket knife I had in my pocket, and carried her to safety. She's been madly in love with me ever since."
Aunt Linda began trembling. "A mini pocket knife?"
Eddie nodded seriously. "A benchmade knife, Linda. They never saw it coming."
You were about to murder him.
But before you could actually kill him, your cousin, the bride needed you for some photos. You grabbed Eddie's arm and pulled him away from Aunt Linda before she could ask any more questions.
The second you were out of earshot, you turned on him. "Orphaned oil tycoon? Street fight? What the hell was that?"
Eddie grinned, hands in pockets. "I panicked."
"You panicked?"
"Look, you needed a fake date," he shrugged, "I gave you an experience."
You groaned, rubbing your temples. "You're lucky my aunt loves drama."
Eddie smirked as he edged closer. "Admit it. You had fun."
Staring at him forced a monotone face, but you finally cracked up at the whole ludicrousness of it—the crazy backstory, the overdramatic pauses, the fact that Aunt Linda now thought you were having a secret affair with a tragically mysterious orphan billionaire.
You huffed and shook your head. "You are a menace."
Eddie grinned. "Yeah, but now Aunt Linda thinks I'm a very rich menace." He chuckled. "And that, my dear, is what we call a successful heist." He added

Somce I’ve seen this reblogged several times I thought I’d finally do it.
1. Tails (That should really be obvious)
2. Shadow (Shadow’s got a ton of low points for me but his highs are so good I can’t hate em.)
3. Blaze (I’ve always just liked her, she’s cool)
4. Kit (He’s very quickly gone from a character I knew nothing about to a character I adore I find him specifically really interesting more so than Surge.)
5. Omega (Looks cool, often sounds cool, and is hella funny it’s hard not to like Omega.)
6. Knuckles (Knuckles is just a fun character, he’s cool when he needs to be, and really funny at times too while also being one of the nicest characters in the series which just makes him so endearing.)
7. Metal Sonic (I always loved Metal Sonic visually he looks really cool, like way cooler than I feel a robot version of Sonic should, but I also love Metal Sonic’s character despite how little we get to see it. That one moment in the IDW comics where he dips his finger in the metal virus really sticks with me.)
This is where things get really hard for me so these last few are just who ever comes to mind first.
8. Amy (I used to not be a big fan of Amy, but I’ve grown to appreciate how she’s portrayed in earlier media more and I love how she’s written now, she’s always had a good design but I never liked her much with her Sonic obsession, some times it was pulled off pretty well, SA2 probably being my favorite depiction of this version of Amy cause she’s more adorably playful about it, but modern day Amy is sorta like the mom of Team Sonic which I love seeing her as.)
9. Big (I love this guy’s vibes, he’s hella chill, always loved Big, even when the internet constantly hated him I loved him. How can you not like Big? He loves to fish and he loves his friends sure it’s simplistic but there’s a very endearing quality to that.)
10. Clove the Pronghorn (Okay, I don’t really know much about her cause I was never really into the Archie Comics much, but… I adore her design, out of every character in those comics I’ve seen she was the first one I saw and instantly fell in love with and from what I know of her backstory she does seem pretty interesting.)
I invite anyone who sees this.
Alright everypony, here's my top 10 favorite Sonic characters
Shadow
Rouge
Amy
Silver
Metal Sonic
Sonic
Eggman

Ranking the First Five Stormlight Novels
For the record, this is not meant to be an objectively correct ranking or anything--but it is my personal ranking. I wanted to wait to do this until Stormlight 5 came out!
And I gotta say--I like all of the books. But I can rank them by "least favorite" to "favorite," even if they're all among my favorite books in general, you know?
[Spoilers for Wind & Truth! ...And all the other Stormlight books too!]
#5: Wind and Truth
I feel bad ranking the newest book at the lowest spot...but so it goes. The thing is: I'm a simple woman. I come to Stormlight Archive looking for people with huge fantasy swords fighting each other in the sky. And while I do respect and understand Kaladin finding his place outside of battles and becoming a Therapist to the Stars, I did honestly miss him getting to duke it out against overwhelming odds.
I will say that this was probably my favorite Adolin book--his WAT arc was my favorite. I also loved the new ways that Shallan is using her powers, to say nothing of finally getting the Rlain/Renarin love story. It was also extremely gratifying to finally get a lot of the backstory about the Stormfather and Honor and the Recreance. I'm also fascinated that so many arcs involved oaths being broken framed as a good thing.
Lots of great stuff in Stormlight 5. But my monkey brain really wanted more sky fights.
#4: Oathbringer
I have to imagine that if you are a Dalinar stan, Oathbringer is probably your absolute favorite book. I'm a Dalinar fan but not a Dalinar stan, so that definitely flavors my reaction to this book.
This one does have one of my favorite Sanderlanches--the battle of Thaylen city is amazing (and Shallan single-handedly fighting an entire army does legitimately make me tear up every time). The invasion of Kholinar storyline is also great, and I loved meeting Azure.
Again, lots of good stuff, but not as much good stuff as some of the other books, at least for me.
#3: Rhythm of War
Rhythm of War was challenging for me because Kaladin is having the ABSOLUTE WORST time in his whole life and it's sometimes legitimately hard to read about it. At the same time, we get such great Kaladin fights thanks to the Pursuer, and one of the all-time great Kaladin Dramatic Entrances at the end.
Plus, I mean....Navani and Raboniel? So good! So toxic! Such an accidental toxic yuri horrifying love story. I'm such a sucker for self-sacrifice too, so Raboniel sacrificing herself to save Navani AFTER Navani killed her? That could have been created in a lab just for me.
PLUS this book had Maya and Adolin, both their kata fight and the whole "WE CHOSE" scene.
Incredible book, IMO.
#2: Way of Kings
I go back and forth about whether Way of Kings or Words of Radiance is my favorite, if I'm being honest. At the moment of writing this list, it's turned out this way.
I really love Way of Kings. The whole bridgeman plotline is horrifying but so compelling, and I love watching Kaladin build himself and his man back up. I love seeing all of the ways they manage to survive, from the side-carry to, well, war-crime armor I guess. The scene of Kaladin surviving the highstorm--with Syl in front trying to block it--is one of my all-time favorite scenes ever. The Tower Fight is fantastic all the way through. And the end with Dalinar giving up his shardblade to save the bridgemen is so earned.
On a first read I was less compelled by Shallan's narrative but it honestly gets more compelling the more often I reread which I've done...let's say a few times. She's such a great character from the first line.
#1: Words of Radiance
As I mentioned at the beginning, I am a simple woman sometimes when it comes to my fantasy series. Words of Radiance wins for me because it contains my three favorite plotlines / scenes:
The 4 v. 1 duel. So amazingly fun to read. Such a good scene for Adolin, for Kaladin, for Renarin. "Honor is dead but I'll see what I can do." Come ON.
Kaladin & Shallin fieldtrip in the chasms. I loved the way their relationship developed over the course of this scene. The end when they're huddled in the cave in the middle of the highstorm while listening to the Fused above them, telling each other their true stories--top-notch. Plus I'm a sucker for storylines where people have to both use and hide their powers, and so the fact that they're both Radiant and trying to hide that from each other makes me giggle maniacally.
The Kaladin vs. Szeth duel. This fight has EVERYTHING. They're in the sky. It's a highstorm. They literally run across enormous boulders that were RIPPED from the GROUND by the storm while said boulders are SPINNING THROUGH THE STORM. It's so over-the-top and it's my favorite fight in the whole series.
So that's me! I know there are tons of "What's your favorite Stormlight book" polls out there, but if you want to put your ranking in the tags I'd be interested to see it!

Whitaker, please he’s just the best.
More under the cut for Ep. 9
Mr. Silent Heart Attack, honestly the only words out of my mouth was asshole, what a fucking dick. My girl Dana?!?! Are you serious? I hope that’s the last we’ve seen of him, but I doubt it. Dana is the best, the end.
Whitaker catching the rat and killing it? You go farm boy! I was dying of laughter because they were all amused by it, also the nurse flirting with him? Give my boy a win! A girl and clean scrubs he is on top of the world. Seriously though, I do like that he cares enough about the kraken and is willing to go out into the field. He’s probably one of my favorites with Mel, just both really well written. I hope next season we get to see that outreach team with McKay!
Speaking of McKay, she had a rough hour. Trying to get a human trafficking girl help she didn’t want, though the pen with the hotline was so smart! Then the UTI that wasn’t a UTI coming back in, I felt for her, especially with the bias mention from Collins. Which is another thing that happens, bias with heavy set people, I really like that this show is addressing that along with the POC struggle.
Also Robby tweaking his back? Ok old man (I love this old man very much, so very much affectionate). It’s either a tweaked back or a urine infection, that man has not known a moment of peace today. Two things 1) I had to go back and listen to what he said to Langdon after he walked in on him reaming Santos out because of how he appeared behind the curtain it was giving “hello there” and 2) trying to distract Collins with the rat, again a glimpse of Dr. Carter (the lawsuit wants to know my location). Also the Robby school of compartmentalizing emotions was in session briefly, sir I know why you have been having issues getting over Adamson’s death…
He was right to ream out Langdon, he’s been riding Santos hard, but also two sides to every story, I mean Santos has been out of control all day. I get it but she also keeps doing things to set people off. It’s just not kosher. Though figuring out what the MDMA patient needed was a great save, but not taking credit and how she spoke to Mohan after was odd. Also I think the drug thing with Langdon is a red herring, I just get this suspicion it’s Abbott I don’t know why… we shall see. Enough about Santos, I don’t want her redeemed, we need a bad guy of sorts.
Collins, I feel for her, I really do this is so rough. Dana and her have such a sweet relationship. Collins cares a lot which I love, just despite everything she’s still going above and beyond for her patients. Speaking of relationships, are we ever going to get what in the ever loving fuck happened between her and Robby, that banter was flirtatious as hell excuse me y’all.
Mel! First off the excitement about getting to pick gravel out of the man? Please my girl was so happy, I love it! Also her and Langdon, he’s a really good mentor to her and I love that, but also I am suspecting he may have a special needs son, because he just knows what to do. I just really really love her character and their friendship. Also not Langdon calling her his least problematic trainee, please you dork. I like the guy and his dog, not going to lie gave me a good laugh.
Speaking of Langdon, mask on or off during surgery, sent me reeling, like get her! That whole debacle in chairs was funny, I know it wasn’t supposed to be, but between poor Earl on the floor and Dana absolutely taking a shot at Philly, just great. The tooth thing freaked me out, but I’m also squeamish about teeth, this show gets too graphic sometimes.
We’re starting to see the first glimpses of issues at Pitt Fest and the cops for her incel shooter. We know it’s hinting towards mass causality for the season finale just from where is the question.
Honorable mentions this week? Javadi and Mateo girl we have all been there, Mateo not knowing how Erik Estrada is and of course Earl with his rom com quip.
I’ll miss episode 10 live, I’m traveling, but I’ll try to catch up Sunday when I get back!
See you next week!

Something I noticed in my Yellowjackets rewatch is that, whether she intended to or not, Laura Lee is the one who sent them into chaos? Coach Ben tried to stop her from flying the plane, which, you know, he was right, but it was also what he had to say/do as the Adult Authority Figure. But by getting on the plane anyway Laura Lee fully ended the illusion of his authority and any kind of adherence to the kind of civilized hierarchy they'd been trying to cling to, and all hell broke loose almost immediately after. Probably the things everybody does after that are not what she would have wanted lol but by telling Coach Ben to politely go fuck himself Laura Lee empowered everybody else to go wild.
yes!! this!! i know i'm biased because she's my favorite character but Laura Lee's influence on the yellowjackets entire plot is so so significant. the obvious thing is the way she encouraged Lottie to believe in her visions -> Lottie started believing in the wilderness -> literally everything that's happened because of that. but!! this thing about Coach Scott is sooo real too. she really was the first one to defy and actually full on disregard his authority. that absolutely was the the beginning of his downfall
and there's so much to consider about it too! like. the cutest, nicest, least threatening member of the team standing up to him and winning? oh that ruined him. but also! uh. she very much died. you can't blame him because she really insisted and nobody else stopped her either but... what if you can blame him a little? he's even more ruined!
and now i'm thinking about previous interactions between these two. there's obviously the scene in the pilot where she smoothly manipulates him into letting her make the whole team pray with her. but also there's the moment before she basically exorcises lottie. to be fair he was drugged by misty. but there was a crisis in the cabin, the girls might have been in danger, she asked him to help, and he just threw up. so useless... again, i know it wasn't his fault. but i'm thinking maybe it was then that she lost her respect for him and that emboldened her to stand up to him the way she did about that plane. "what are you going to do to stop me, coach? (because last time you didn't do anything at all)"
and one last thought! as if laura lee defying him and even dying to make it worse wasn't enough to completely ruin his reputation and authority, what happens next with him? who's next to brush him off? lottie! lottie, who believed everything laura lee said and in turn will make everyone believe what she says. he tries to step in during jackie and shauna's fight, lottie tells him to stay out of it, he does, and then another girl dies! final nail in his coffin (and that's without even going on s2 and how he didn't participate in the jackie feast and didn't help when shauna was giving birth. but that's another subject)
#thank you thank you thank you for sending this you are absolutely right and i love hearing your yj thoughts :)#and! i love ranting about laura lee <33#i hope i made sense and i'm not too uhh wrong#answered#dufrau#laura lee#yellowjackets

whirlpool — is he really as awful as the fandom makes him out to be ?
a wings of fire character analysis. minor content warning for mentions of abuse, grooming, pedophilia, and the likes.

whirlpool is, indubitably, the most universally disliked wings of fire character (and by a long shot, too). in the seven years that i've been an active wof fan, i think i've only seen two, maybe three, people say that they can even stand him. ask anyone in the fandom who the "worst character" is; nine times out of ten, they will probably answer, "whirlpool." ask the reason for this, and they will probably reply with something along the lines of him being a pedophile.
but is he?
i would like to note that i am in no way defending whirlpool. he is by no means a morally good, nor redeemable, dragon. i recently reread the lost heir, so i'm trying to approach this with an unbiased, strictly objective viewpoint. this is just my analysis of his character based on what i've heard people say about him compared to his actual character in the novel.
for a character that appears only in one book (two, if you count turtle's brief flashback in talons of power), whirlpool is a character that wings of fire fans just cannot seem to let go. for countless years, whirlpool has been the subject of a wide array of jokes, memes, and is overall used as the fandom's punching bag—and with good reason (at least, to an extent). however, this has, in recent years, quickly downspiraled into blatant pedophilia jokes.
pedophilia is something that, as i've noticed, is seen as "funny" or "quirky" in certain niches of the wings of fire fanbase, especially so on reddit. make a post asking for people to share their favorite ships, and you'll get at least five people saying something like "clay x bumblebee" or "burn x auklet" to be funny. perhaps it's just the fact that most of the people cracking these "jokes" are teenaged redditors, but the fact that pedophilia is watered down to nothing more than "Boiii!😂😂Cursed funny joke🗿🍷" is, without a doubt, an issue. this downplaying of such a heavy topic not only leads to people just blatantly saying insensitive things for a bad jest, but it also results in the people making those jokes becoming desensitized to the severity of the issue.
when something as serious as pedophilia is treated as nothing more than meme fodder or a buzzword to casually throw around, it diminishes the real harm and suffering experienced by victims. and over time, this normalization will blur the line between satire and genuine endorsement and create spaces where predatory behavior is either ignored or, in the worst cases, subtly encouraged under the guise of just being “dark humor.” this kind of discourse can also alienate victims of a genuine real-world issue, which inevitably makes it harder for them to speak out or feel supported in these communities. and while yeah, humor can be a tool to cope with difficult topics, there’s a stark difference between using it to challenge harmful behaviors and using it to trivialize them.
but i'm getting off track.
whirlpool is not a good dragon. he's manipulative, concerned with nothing more than his personal status and wealth, lacks proper seawing etiquette and self-awareness of his patronizing, annoying personality, by all accounts, an awful teacher, and is just overall a condescending know-it-all. he was a one-off pretentious antagonist, and that is all he was ever meant to be.
he serves as queen coral's most trusted advisor in magic and publishing in her council, and, since he's practically bending over to kiss the ground that her talons walk on like a well-trained circus seal, she finds him to be absolutely delightful, intelligent, and just overall a brilliant gift to all the world. considering this, it's no wonder why coral arranged for him to marry anemone in the future.

that's a detail that most people seem to forget. coral is the one who set up the whole anemone and whirlpool thing. of course, this doesn't mean that whirlpool didn't want to marry anemone; it's just that he was only in it so that he could become the future king of the seawings. he is never shown to have any sort of attraction to anemone (nor to tsunami or auklet); he simply views them as pawns in a game that will ultimately result in his seat in a throne. obviously, this is not a good thing. it's implied by anemone that he was essentially manipulating her to use her magic more, thus becoming "evil" and more susceptible to challenge her mother for the seawing crown (and i'm pretty sure that blister was encouraging this, too; the only difference is that her ideal end result would be using anemone as a war weapon to secure her reign over the sandwings). he is a manipulator, but not a pedophile.

when i first read the lost heir in third grade, whirlpool was nothing but just an annoying side character who's only trait was being a boring "erm, ackshually" kind of guy who spent his every waking moment praising queen coral's literary works. obviously, as an eight year old, i didn't fully pick up the more serious underlying tones of manipulation for power, but after re-reading the book many, many times over the course of seven years, i've gathered a much more comprehensive grasp of his character.
the thing is, he just... doesn't have that much depth to him. that's the whole point; he's meant to just be a one-off antagonist that the reader isn't supposed to like. think about it. why would tui intentionally put a pedophile in a book directed towards elementary and middle schoolers? she wouldn't. he's literally just supposed to be annoying and die.

compare him to coral, for instance. yes, whirlpool was awful. but unlike coral, he did not write a scroll about eugenics, treat and harness a dragonet like a literal dog, publicly torture and execute loyal subjects for an accident (that was really coral's brother's fault), threaten to KILL his own daughter (okay, well, he did attempt to murder tsunami, but i think it's also pretty bad to tell your kid that you're going to kill her), neglect over 30 other of his own children, among a bounty of other not-so-great things? no. what i'm trying to say is, people often bash repeatedly on whirlpool with the same three jokes (like, come on, at least make a new joke. like whirlpoop or something i haven't heard that one before) while overlooking awful things that other characters do as well.
people love scarlet, blister, burn, darkstalker, vulture, mastermind, and countless other villains, despite the fact that many of them have done the exact same things as whirlpool or worse (elaboration in like two paragraphs). and there's nothing wrong with liking villains at all (personally i love a ton of wof's villains; i mean, come on, who doesn't?), so long as you're not trying to justify/redeem/defend their actions!!

what i'm trying to say is this:
this extreme vilification of whirlpool relies on literally nothing but exaggeration or outright misinformation. while yes, it is absolutely true that he was manipulating anemone to serve his own ambitions, his interest in marrying her had nothing to do with attraction or pedophilia—it was calculated power play, one arranged by queen coral herself. many people conflate his manipulative tendencies with predatory behavior, but his treatment of anemone was no different than how many other power-hungry characters in wings of fire have used young dragons as pawns in their schemes. this does not make him any less of a bad person, but it is important to distinguish between the two accusations.
another major issue with the fandom’s treatment of whirlpool is the sheer inconsistency in how different villains are perceived. as mentioned earlier, characters like darkstalker, scarlet, and even queen coral have committed arguably worse acts than whirlpool. darkstalker, for instance, manipulated young dragons like moonwatcher, fathom, and his own girlfriend, placed magical compulsions on his own friends, and tried to commit genocide—yet he has a massive fanbase, with many people willing to justify or romanticize his actions. scarlet is a tyrant who tortured innocent dragons for entertainment, but she is often seen as a charismatic, even beloved villain. (i can't lie, i love her too) coral, despite being directly responsible for the forced betrothal of anemone and whirlpool, does not receive nearly as much backlash as he does. why, then, is whirlpool singled out as the worst villain when he is hardly unique in his cruelty?
the answer likely lies in the nature of his character. unlike other villains who are powerful, charming, or entertaining, whirlpool is pathetic. he is not a fearsome warlord like burn or a tragic antihero like darkstalker is meant to be—he is an annoying, self-important sycophant whose ultimate goal is to climb the social ladder by cozying up to queen coral. he is the kind of villain who is easy to mock, easy to laugh at, and easy to pile hatred onto without deeper discussion. it’s the same reason why villains like mastermind or vulture don’t inspire the same level of vitriol—they are manipulative and amoral, but they aren’t written to be particularly cool or interesting in the way that characters like darkstalker or scarlet are.
at the end of the day, whirlpool is a terrible dragon. he is an opportunistic manipulator, annoying, a pathetic wet cat, and an overall detestable character. however, the way the fandom fixates on him, and exaggerated or misrepresents his crimes while ignoring worse actions from other villains, makes me wonder: why do some villains get a "pass" while others are relentlessly mocked? why do people misrepresent certain characters in ways that turn serious topics into joke fodder? and most importantly—why are we still talking about whirlpool, a one-off side villain from a book released over a decade ago, as if he’s the worst thing to ever happen in wings of fire?

side note: i couldn't figure out how to work this in there, but i don't know where the misconception that whirlpool is a super old decaying man came from. is he far too old for anemone? without a doubt. but from what i gathered from reading tlh, it seems like he's implied to be only slightly older than tsunami; somewhere around riptide's age, perhaps. anyhow, thank you for reading my chaotic mess of a character analysis! as a treat (or an abhorrent punishment, depending on the kind of person you are), here are some funny whirlpool expressions. the last two are my favorites .. he looks like he has eyeliner on in the last one lol

I will never pass up the opportunity to ramble on about how much I love Bix Caleen.
Despite being a fan of Adria Arjona before Andor, Bix really crept up on me unexpectedly. I was excited to see who this character was, but overall I was there to watch Andor because of my love for Rogue One and Cassian. My first impression was that Bix seemed like a hard ass - impatient and irritable with anyone who disrupts her workflow (understandable. I hate getting interrupted when I'm in the zone so she was already relatable to me there) and dedicated to her job. Then I started to really pay attention when we learn about her secret side-gig.
Whatever her motivations were (spite towards the Empire, greed for money, ambition for being something more, or all of the above) I realized just how well Bix was maintaining her daily life if she had all of these plates spinning with very few people knowing about her little secret operation (that she was more or less single-handedly managing on her end) while still being a big part of the community on Ferrix.
Which brings me to one of my favorite traits of hers. The culture on Ferrix is incredibly rich. The community is fiercely tight-knit and Bix is no exception to that. In fact, I would go so far as to say she is one of the most loyal characters on Ferrix in general. There are some members of the community that when faced with danger either pull back and focus on their own safety or fall prey to the Empire's promises and betray their own people. Not Bix. When faced with a crisis, she doesn't think for herself. She plunges headfirst into danger to try and protect the people that matter to her, much to her own detriment. Bix has a loyalty to her people that cannot even be tortured out of her. And it is very sad to me that she seemed to be an afterthought to most of the Ferrixians once she was arrested.
I think Bix felt alone and isolated in her community, which probably happened around the time her parents died. Bix has to have her shit together or she will lose her shit. That is why she is constantly in motion, why she has all of those plates spinning, why she can't let herself stop to think for even a moment because then all of these feelings of grief and loneliness and anger catch up with her. Bix is always running (literally, too) until she can't anymore. All of it is about holding herself together and maintaining control over a life that she probably hadn't planned for.
And then every single ounce of control she has is ripped away from her and completely and utterly shattered. Her journey going forward won't just be about rebuilding her sanity, but rebuilding her entire identity. Because who is Bix Caleen outside of the Caleen Salyard? Outside of Ferrix? I'm not sure she knows the answer, but I bet it's got Rebel in it.
Character Appreciation Friday - Bix Caleen

Name: Bix Caleen Played by: Adria Arjona Appearances: Kassa, That Would Be Me, Reckoning, Announcement, Narkina 5, Nobody's Listening!, Daughter of Ferrix, Rix Road
Happy Friday gang! Today we get to appreciate a businesswoman, a rebel, a friend, a true daughter of Ferrix. Bix is a smart and capable character who deserved better than what the Empire brought her, and I know we're all excited to see her fight for it soon.
Tell me what you love and appreciate about Bix in a reblog, comment, or ask!
Next week: B2EMO

Fun Fact about me: I started writing a Legend of Zelda fanfic inspired by a piece of fanart I barely remember that was probably stolen and posted on Pinterest. I never finished writing it, and didn’t have an outline for the snippets that I did manage to write, but it involved Zelda disguising herself as Sheik to infiltrate Ganondorf’s ranks, earn his trust, and then assassinate him when his guard was down. Things get complicated by a realization that Zelda doesn’t want to abide by the destiny that’s been written out for her, and Ganondorf getting a lot of red flags that start to activate his Found Family Trope instinct. Here’s some comics about that fic!
Visiting the Shadow Temple:
Sneaking out of a camp the battalion she’s leading has set up in order to maintain her disguise:
Unfortunate timing for Zelda’s triforce to activate its lifetime subscription package:
Ganondorf’s having some concerns and eyeing the adoption papers:
Assigning morality to emotions, which is never a good thing:
#watch in amazement as Zelda gets progressively more and more gremlin-size over the course of these drawings!#fun fact: I've barely written Pulri at all but she's probably one of my favorite characters I've ever made#Ganondad AU#the legend of zelda#tloz#tloz fanart#legend of zelda#tloz zelda#tloz ganondorf#loz fanart#loz#loz zelda#tloz sheik#loz sheik#loz ganondorf#ganondorf#loz ganon#tloz ganon#the legend of zelda fanart#the legend of zelda au#tloz au#loz au#zelda au#zelda comic#stuff by sofie#queued

#drawing my kitty cat designs is really fun. i get to flex my character design muscles AND be self indulgent#this one goes out to 9 year old me who couldnt draw anything but cats and really wanted to draw suitloon a lot ‼️#that reminds me i need to try to get back into my scratch account. ik i had some ii art on there i need to share it with the world#that second one is my favorite. its been a while since i drew a beast making the signature sadface#inanimate insanity#my art#ii suitcase#ii balloon#ii suitloon#suitloon#like i said theyre qpr to me! theyre just so important to each other and both trust each other more than anyone else#but i dont see the romantic aspect i used to apply when i was younger anymore- this feels a lot more fitting if i had to like. define them#im soooo insane over the poem balloon wrote for suitcase. two ideas for it#1.) he wrote it pre-ii2 finale with suitcase in mind since she's probably a really good source of inspiration for him#2.) he wrote it post-ii2 finale in celebration of her win....#sorry for all these tags. can you tell suitcase and balloon have meant a lot to me since i was young

I haven't read all of these series, because I want to wait until the series is complete in English before I read it, but this is my ranking of the books I've read:
The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): It's my favorite for so many reasons! I'm so attached to Mo Ran and Chu Wanning. Meatbun is an amazing writer. It's crazy how many emotions I felt while reading this series. I read fan and machine translations of the book first and am rereading it as the official translations come out. It's even better (and infinitely more painful) the second time around! The foreshadowing and big reveals are more impactful than any other book I've ever read. Also, I am so glad I got to read the whole thing without stopping, because if I had to wait for the next book to come out that would have been far too painful! 2ha destroyed me emotionally in ways nothing else ever has. I refuse to read any other series by Meatbun until all the books are out because I've heard they are also painful, but brilliant, books! I have a feeling that Remnants of Filth and Casefile Compendium are going to be high on my favorites list when I do read them.
2. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): My first danmei, and my favorite by MXTX. The drama and the anime are also wonderful, but because the adaptations had to be censored, the books are definitely the best! The relationship between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji is absolutely perfect! The side characters are endearing, the humor is witty, and the action/suspense scenes are done very well. This book is also has my favorite confession scene of all time! I got into the series for the romance, and was blown away by the writing and the mystery plotline. However, it can be a little confusing when it comes to switching between timelines.
3. Thousand Autumns (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): The author basically thought, "What would happen if a man with no flaws and the worst man ever were to meet?" And then she wrote this book. Shen Qiao is the most perfect man ever. He's kind, gentle, beautiful, strong, intelligent, forgiving, and is basically the ideal Taoist priest. Yan Wushi is a demonic cultivator who is the exact opposite of Shen Qiao. Yan Wushi is arrogant, cynical, harsh, violent, mercurial, and is so strong that no one could oppose him if they wanted to. The book begins with Shen Qiao laying almost dead, blind, and amnesiac at the bottom of a cliff where he is found by Yan Wushi, who takes Shen Qiao home because he wants to try and influence him to become evil just for fun. As their paths meet and they travel together, Yan Wushi shows Shen Qiao parts of the world he had never known existed and they do end up influencing each other, just not in the way either of them expected. Yan Wushi is quite the character and Shen Qiao is absolutely perfect. They may not seem to be made for each other, at least not at first, but they were. I love the two main characters of course, but I also love how realistic the historical setting is and the power struggle between the three main Chinese philosophies, Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. Thousand Autumns is thought provoking while also being exciting, suspenseful, fun, romantic, and downright silly at times. It isn't the most well known danmei series, but I think it is one of the best written.
4. Heaven Official's Blessing (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): This is probably the best writing from MXTX. It has beautiful symbolism, which helps to make the official artwork and donghua look spectacular. The whole series is like a work of art. Xie Lian is one of the most intriguing protagonists because he is as simple as he appears on the surface but is also equally complex deep down. He never changes throughout the series, either. You just learn and understand more about Xie Lian as his past is revealed. The same can be said about Hua Cheng; his character is straightforward and unchanging, but he is also an enigma. For me, Heaven Official's Blessing is amazing because of Xie Lian and Hua Cheng's relationship and how they have influenced each other. The other characters and side plots are interesting and well written, but the whole draw for me is Hualian. Even during the moments when they are not the main focus in the plot they are still my main focus, if that makes sense. The world of Heaven Official's Blessing and the entire cast of characters are well written, and with Hualian at the center of it all this series is spectacular.
5. Scum Villain Self-Saving System (⭐⭐⭐⭐): This series is so much fun. There are so many stories where the main character dies in real life only to wake up as the villain in a story, and I thought this would be more of the same. But SVSSS is very satirical and pokes fun at the overused genre cliches. It is so easy to relate to Shen Qingqiu and to love Lou Binghe. I really enjoyed how the series is so entertaining at first, but it becomes so dark and realistic despite being an over the top stallion novel setting. The whole book is a wild ride and I enjoyed every moment of it.
6. Guardian (⭐⭐⭐): I think it was a fun choice to choose a modern supernatural detective setting and include Chinese mythology. It made the cast of characters unique and fun. I also really enjoyed the humor in this series. The character development and plot weren't as deep and impactful as the other danmei in this list, and I think part of the reason is the author gave a lot of hints and help for the reader. As a result, it felt like this series was written for a younger audience. It's not bad, but it made the series a lot less engaging for me, even though I do love the two main characters.
7. Stars of Chaos (⭐⭐): I wasn't really a fan of this series. It had so much potential, but ultimately the plot boiled down to a paranoid emperor, greedy court officials, an underfunded military, and the two main characters who are so perfect that they turn literally every situation around and everything goes according to their plans. The politics and military issues were realistic, but they were explained so thoroughly that there were no surprises. The main characters are amazing, but their backstories aren't explained even half as well as the politics were so we don't really know much about how they got to be that way. In the first book the main character travels for four years and changes from a snotnosed kid to the impressive and skilled protagonist who can take on literally everything. His godfather/love interest is astonished and wonders what he was doing for those four years. I was also curious, but the author never told us. There was so much emphasis on world building, political intrigue, and military strategy that I felt the characters took a backseat to everything else. Which is a shame, because the characters are so cool! I actually enjoyed the extra chapters more than the main story because we got to see more of the characters and how they interact with each other. (Whenever I talk about Stars of Chaos I sound like Shen Yuan talking about PIDW from SVSSS. I know and I'm sorry, so please remember this is just my opinion. Please don't hunt me down for revenge.)
To Be Read:
Remnants of Filth
