Tails' real name being a human name (Miles) is weird, so I've decided that his name being a human name was an accident (his full name being a speed pun is a happy accident). His parents did the same thing that Asriel's parents did in Undertale, where they took the first two letters of one parent's name and the last three letters of the other parent's name and mashed them together to get their child's name. In his case, his mother's name was Mist, and his father's name was . . . Puddles.
#sth#miles tails prower#mist prower#puddles prower#i have been laughing about Puddles Prower for the last 10 minutes i am NOT sorry#luckily Squiggles was an easygoing happy dude who was impossible to bully effectively#bc he never rly got mad or upset or reacted in a way bullies got a kick out of#he was a lot like Bob Ross i think. just supportive and gentle and a happy dude#who liked fishing and sewing#meanwhile Mist's full name was probs Misty but she just went by Mist#she was an inventor! v fascinated by science & engineering#tried to make all kinds of cool shit w/ the limited resources on West Side Island#including all the tech they used for fishing#very savvy & quick-witted. kind of wanted to move to a city#to have better access to materials for tech#but was happy on the island too#they loved their son very much & if there is an afterlife they are so glad that#he has such a wonderful adoptive big brother now to give him the care & love he deserves#(also Puddles WOULD be legit mad if he found out how the villagers treated his son)#(make fun of his name being Puddles all u want but leave his baby alone!!!)#(Mist would also be mad but she's not a scolding type. she's a revenge type.)#(she would've blown up their houses w/ combustible lemons fr)#anyway. my dog woke me up way early so 🙄 this is what happens lol)

Thinking about how the main cast's profiles on socials (With customisation like Tumblr) would look like. (Mostly based on my own headcanons mixed in with their canon personality)
Uzi's would be extremely Xd , full of colors and flashing lights and patterns (My interpretation of Uzi at least)
N's would be definitely less cluttered, but Not empty. I act headcanon him to be quite good with electronics, even tho not as much as Uzi is. Something something a lot of labradors, probably a light yellow / yolk color for the backdrop.
V's would be all dark and brooding, I feel like she'd still play on the acting Crazy thing, even if its a cover up. Extra edgy, maybe oil themed or smth. Headcanon her as less tech savvy, so she probably had to ask Uzi how the site worked and then Lizzy for advice on what theme to pick.
J's would be really barren by Choice, she'd want it to look as professional as possible imo. Be prepared to be blinded by her light theme core profile or smh
Once i get home I might doodle this rq

Alastor my favorite, but Vox is not close behind. (Story of Vox afterlife amrite?) I just find this guy intriguing. Mostly his dynamics with the other overlords.
I would like to share some ideas I have on this guy. I only know Vox from the one episode he appeared in. Some of these ideas might have been said by someone else. I haven't been following anything, so as far as I know, these are been unsaid and I figured to share my ideas. I already mention my thoughts about his and Alastor dynamic last week so I won't go on with that in this post.
Vox seems to be the most level headed, patient, mild one (Alastor trigger aside) out of the three Vs that we seen so far. Val is volatile and violent. Velvette is rather level headed but she also a bit hot headed as well. Granted we haven't seen too much about the V's, but Vox seems to be the "nice" one out of the three. We seen the other two yell and berate their employees. Vox, we haven't seen lash out at anyone but Alastor. I'm sure Vox is guilty of cruelty. He did climb up to become an overlord in Hell after all, so he screw over A LOT of people to do so, if not straight out disposed of.But I think he went about it more strategically and intelligently over brute strength or force.
I find his relationship with Val interesting. They are definitely friends with benefits. But Val being...well..Val-volatile and violent. I have no doubt Vox had been a victim during those moods. I'm really curious on the dynamic of that. Val is use to taking his aggressions on weaker demons. So I wonder how it goes with someone own power level. Why Vox just let it keep happening? I do think Val does get Vox hooked up on the same "poison" as Angel Dust but Vox has a greater immunity by being an overlord so the affects are dampen or its just used sparsely on him.
I think Val alive is very similar to how he is in Hell. A abusive pimp and a slew of criminal activity. He just a lot more successful in his after life. It's easy to see why he's in Hell.
Vox on the other hand, I don't think he really committed any crimes. If he did, it was white collared stuff. But he did sin, Either by pride or greed or both. I think Vox lied heavily while alive which may lead in why his motto is "Trust us with..." with whatever service he selling. Sadly, when someone ask you to trust them, its usually someone you shouldn't outside of someone you know well.
I have a few ideas what he may be doing while alive.
We know he died during the 1950s and its life was more likely involved with tv. With his charisma, Vox screams showman or salesman, since he seems most concern about the Vs brand.
My first idea is he a Tv salesman. Think sketchy car salesman but with Tvs. He lies, he bait and switch. He knowingly sells knock offs for brand name prices...etc. The deceiving and the greed can easily land him in Hell.
My 2nd idea is he's a appliance repairman, mainly tvs. His business model is similar to example one but a bit more honest work. But having knowledge to repair items might explain his interested keeping up and ahead on the technology field. I like the idea having a more tech savvy trade job while he alive but in the 1950's I think tech support knowledge was rather limited for common folk.
His death was accidental electrocution fixing a faulty tv.
Now my last idea and one I lean heavily one over the other two is, he was a tv host. Which would add another level to his and Alastor rivery. Both being host of a program on their preferred media.
I'm not entirely sure what played during the 1950s. But from the top of my head, his hosting choices would be news anchor, Talk show or game show (possibly game show announcer). I'm going with, he was a very popular game show host, going by the game winning noise he emitted when Val guessed correctly.
It would fit his showmanship. It would also explain his salesman side as well. Back in that era, game shows was basically huge advertisement.
"Bobby, tell him what he won!"
-"He won a brand new kitchen! Complete with 'brand name here' wood cabinets and mint green appliances! Above is 20 feet of smart modern cabinets of maple covering the full length of the kitchen. Which includes a new 'brand name here' 13 cubic foot refrigerator freezer....etc"
I'm guessing his sins would be lying and stepping on anyone to get to the top to where he is. Maybe he committed some low fraud or embezzlement etc... for his show or his personal life.
He seem youngish/prime of his life 30s to have a natural death. Not that he exempt from that but lowers the possibility. I'm guessing he had a quick random accidental death. I'm still going with electrocution to help explain his powers. I have no idea what the 50's electric grid on stage is like but I'm sure they're not always OSHA approved. Or maybe a stage light fell on him, who knows?
That's all my thoughts and ideas on the Tv man. Hopefully it seems logical and interesting.

Who's more modern?
Wu, garmadon or mystake?
Would the fsm have gotten along with technology or would hw have struggled with it?
Garmadon, easily, considering out of the three he's probably the most tech-inclined thanks to coordination with the Shark Army over the years (as that was one of their designated jobs prior to invading Ninjago–to keep tabs on how Ninjago City progressed during his time in the Underworld). Plus, with maybe some minimal struggle, he can still operate mechs, use comms/The Realm Ripper, and use the Ninja's supercomputer.
Second right now is probably Mystake, but only just barely, as she's lived directly in the city and been exposed to the technological developments first hand (and even has a TV in her teashop) as opposed to Wu living on his lonesome on a mountain and not having a single clue about tech until the ninja bring their modern ways into his life. And then, after the advent of Pixal, Wu too starts becoming more tech savvy for himself and surpassing Mystake.
The FSM would probably struggle to understand all the tech immediately (maybe even be a little overwhelmed), but he'd be fascinating in learning how to figure it out! (I image he's one of those people that would take things apart and try to see how it fits back together, but in his case he'd just might make something entirely new in the process lol)
(but ya'd better get used to it, since Technology is an element now :V)

I wasn't really looking forward to anything going into High Potential 1.05 "Croaked" because, honestly, HPI 1.04 "Phyllobates Terribilis" is an episode I'm kind of meh about. After re/watching both and writing this, I appreciate them more, though.
Thoughts and comparisons below.
Things unique to "Croaked" that I liked:
Karadec to Morgan: "I am not listening to you for the rest of the day" (later) "I am still not talking to you"
"I know it kinda doesn't seem like it right now, but I do feel really bad about shooting you" Morgan says hardly bothering to conceal her laughter
Oz using the nickname Daph (as Karadec did in 1.04) highlights how familiar these three are with each other
I don't remember Daphné having any particular desire to emulate Karadec in HPI. I'm interested to see what they do with that here
Karadec, referring to the number of dates he goes on: "I cast nets"
Karadec, after Morgan swipes his phone: "You have exactly one second before I arrest you for theft" (and the look he gives her, my guy, please chill out) ((but also don't this is so funny))
I'm happy we got to see Fernanda reunited with Rodney!!
Morgan and Ava's conflict was a sweet demonstration of their relationship and the effects of Morgan getting emotionally invested in a case or, more accurately, in the lives of those involved. This time, it helped her, but I hope we continue to see the effects/toll this takes on her
Things "Croaked" did differently that I liked:
this is the first remade episode with a name change that I really like. It's both clever and easier to remember lol
clearly showing Morgan walk past and notice the dart gun on the wall and that the tank has one frog in it but nametags for two
Karadec turning to stare at Morgan in shock and betrayal just before he collapses
GIVING OZ THE COMIC BOOK PHOTOFIT SCENE T^T THAT'S SO CUTE
establishing Céline is a mom is something I wish HPI had done earlier, so I'm glad it's been brought up between Selena and Morgan a couple of times now
Daphne and Oz having a more visible contribution throughout the episode, even if it's weird (not bad, just different) seeing Daphne in the field
the 'we investigated different clues but ended up in the same place at the same time' trope is one of my favorites, and I like that all four ended up together again
Morgan bursting into the salon, declaring, "Bethany, you lied to us!"
Karadec's face is so cool to watch once Oz shows Nathan the book. The way you can tell he can tell something is up with the sudden confession
in HPI, Karadec is the one who wants to keep working on the case that night, is baffled Morgane leaves, and actually remains at the station after everyone. In this version, well, allow me to sum it up:
Karadec, trying to go home: Yeah, well, like I said, let's just dive back in on Monday Morgan, her eyes enormous: you tell morgan to WAIT? you tell her look with fresh eyes MONDAY? oh! oh! jail for karadec! jail for karadec for One Thousand Years!!!!
from the date: Karadec not seeming too bothered by the interruption, Ava asking before stealing his food, Morgan's "I thought we agreed that we were only gonna splurge on hookers as a couple?", the partners/not partners banter, and how quickly he and his date get into Morgan's revelations
the flip flops during the robbery detail and the ear dimples, since those are more likely to be genetic than the way one folds their thumbs
the grandma getting to meet her grandson!
something I didn't love so much was Oz saying "Or I'm so good, I got an innocent man to confess" like
Things I'm glad they kept from "Phyllobates Terribilis":
Morgan/e putting the very-out-of-it Karadec in timeout at the salon while she interviews the friend
Oz/Gilles' love of treats and snacks, plus his overall silliness and kindness
Daphne/é's tech-savvy and tendency to condescend a little
Karadec and Morgan/e feeling sure the case isn't over but for different reasons (the confession v. the karate photo)
Karadec continuing to manage Morgan/e's expectations (as seen in his original "welcome to my job" and new "hate to tell you, but it's like that a lot" in response to her frustration about the case's ending. I love this aspect of their early partnership. Karadec who's learned to shield himself emotionally v. Morgan/e getting invested in everyone they encounter in a case. She calls him heartless. He calls her ridiculous, but still tries to warn and shield her <3)
Things not included from "Phyllobates Terribilis" that I miss:
Dr. Bonnemain! Though I don't miss Morgane flirting with him
Karadec's allergies and the equally hilarious bit where Gilles lists all of them
Morgane shooting Karadec without warning (and in the butt)
Gilles pulling his gun on Morgane after this (could've had Daphne do it to emphasise her respect for Karadec? 🤔)
Morgane promising to take Karadec home safely; cut to her driving his car like a maniac, sirens running, and music way too loud
still in timeout, Karadec very seriously asking about the nail polish color (which would've been a BRILLIANT callback to 1.02!!)
High Potential missed the opportunity to name Bethany Beatrice or something, so it would fit with bees like Camille fits with Camellias
Karadec's little "Ha. Ha. Ha." when Céline finds him on the stairs and asks about his butt
also his insistence that Morgane didn't save his life
a ton of development on Romain's case! Actually, if they cut those scenes to take a different course or at least take their time with this plot, I won't be upset
Eliott, Albert, and Théa helping Morgane find the bad reviews
Karadec not taking Morgane to check out the second apartment because he wants to be discreet
then he says it feels good to work in peac—HONK it's Morgane! She's already here! Staking out! Would you like to join her in the very red car she just drew attention to? She brought beers!
Morgane noticing the realtor's pen at the vet clinic and the second apartment
Morgane picking up lunch for her and Karadec, switching the phone to speaker every time he changes it back, her soda exploding, him putting the call on speaker after all, her little HAH! when he does, and her stealing his laptop. They're work spouses
from the date: Ranir's, the kids sneaking Karadec's food, his exasperated "Alvaro" x3 then very exasperated "Morgane," his date staring at him to nonverbally commiserate but he's not even paying attention to her anymore bc he's sucked back into the case
Karadec's interrogation of Camille: his barely concealed anger that she's letting her husband take the fall, "there's no such thing as the perfect husband, but that man loves you" (which could've tied into the scene where Nathan explains to Oz why he falsely confessed)
the soundtrack! Rewatching this episode reminded me how much I love the motifs and character themes
#oof this took me longer than expected#definitely some longer “bullet points” sorry not sorry#hpi#haut potentiel intellectuel#high potential#high potential abc#high potential spoilers#high potential abc spoilers#all aboard the live blog#whattrainofthought

Well, I finished Vicious.
Honestly phenomenal book, I now see what all the hype about V. E. Schwab was about. (spoilers below the cut)
The way I would describe the plot is that it's sort of a revenge supervillain murder mystery
Way to nail the morally gray protagonist bc even though Victor was nice to Sydney you can tell that from the MOMENT he knew of her powers he really only wanted to use her for them.
And having an antagonist who so desperately wants to believe he's a hero? 👌
Not to mention the sort of "holier than thou", "God's chosen one", etc complex that Eli had throughout the book, especially when he was trying to justify his methods.
Absolutely love Mitch. No notes, love how he has all the looks of a common goon but is really super smart and tech-savvy and also a little kind.
Both Sydney and her doggo have my heart.
I already stated my thoughts on Serena while I was reading the book, but she's a terrible sister, not a great person, and only slightly redeemed herself.
Apparently an E.O.'s influence doesn't stick around once they die, which makes sense and also contributes to Eli's downfall. That also means that if/when Sydney dies, then so will the people she raised.
Dominic's powers are so cool! I love how they're described.
I'm not likely to get ahold of Vengeful anytime soon, but I will definitely be looking forward to when I can read that or one of Schwab's other books.
Anyway thanks for reading my review/rant, here's a star 🌟

You mentioned Uzi staying in the shared room alot, is that just Uzi being Uzi or is there more reasoning for that 👀
Also I demand doodles of them on tour together(/j) they'd be such a chaotic tour group lmfao
Mostly Uzi being Uzi and being angsty. Plus, she likes to make little trinkets or find ways to amplify her electric guitar. She's probably somehow still managed to make a rail gun in this universe LMAO, or even TURNED HER GUITAR INTO A RAIL GUN. She's a crazy gremlin and we love her for that.
Or she could be messing with other people's equipment secretly. If it's V's equipment, it's probably nothing good. She's very tech-savvy and there's a bunch of technical possibilities.
Mahaha! Don't worry, I already have a bunch of ideas I want to draw >:)
First I want to draw them in a city, but an alive city, since in this AU they don't kill people (or at least try to), Tessa gives them Oil so they don't overheat.
Second, I want to draw V playing her bass guitar on stage >:) But I have to learn how to draw a damn guitar, I didn't realize how difficult those things were to draw.
These will in fact not be doodles, but finished drawings (Hopefully, I'm at least definitely finishing the first one)
But before that, I want to finish this small Vizzy idea I had, because I love them sm. Here's a lil sneak peek :D
I'm so excited to draw this AU some more!!

Warriors of hope who form sector v form knd would you get along
I guess we are kind of like the KND group...
Yeah...Masaru's totally like Numbah 1.
Because I'm the big hero?
No...Because you have a uncanny ability to put yourself in awkward situations.
You-!?
Nagisa's like Numbah 5 because he's very leaderlike, and he's the most level-headed guy.
I will...take that as a compliment. Kotoko reminds me a lot of Numbah 3.
How do you figure?
You have a great spirit and a fiery attitude when you're angry, despite your kindness and sweetness. Additionally, though your general carefree attitude and attempt to see the bright side of things is prevalent, you are determined and prepared to take decisive action when necessary.
Aw, that's really nice actually! As for Monaca...
I'm the skunk. Can we get that out of the way?
Not what I was gonna say.
Monaca is Numbah 2, since she's the tech savvy one of our group. Although she presents a silly front, she is actually a very astute and careful thinker. Also, she annoys the hell out of everyone.
Guilty as charged. Guess that leaves Jataro as Numbah 4.
I think that fits.
And here I was thinking I'd be the skunk.
Guys, let's not kid ourselves. Kurokuma is the skunk.

Do you think autistic people could pull off a John Wick? To be honest we don't see a lot autistic people in action or adventure movies.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v00zKyXbfD4&pp=ygUVSm9obiBXaWNrIGZpZ2h0IHNjZW5l
No. I don't think most of us would survive in an action movie, because we're sensory overloaded very easily so guns and explosives wouldn't be our best friend. Just that scene that you sent me the link of, if I am thinking about the sounds like the few gun shots, the many times glass broke but even the bone crunching sound of jamming a knife into a skull paired with the anxiety levels of such a scenario, then honestly I'd pass.
In my language, we actually have this particular phrase, 'Well, with you I couldn't win a war', about someone who's incompetent either in general, or for a specific task because they do not have the required skillset. My mom once used this phrase on someone and when I asked her in all seriousness if one could actually win a war with me at the forefront, she said and I quote, "Well, you'd probably run into the enemy fire in a panic attack, so no one is winning with you either."
* An adventure type of movie is a VERY different case, however. Other then the fact that the overall plots do not have to involve weapons that easily set us off, for adventure type of movies usually there is a wider array of skillset needed, hence why you have so many tropes in those particular story like the hero, the healer, the comedic side kick who's the glue keeping the team together, etc. Autism comes with drawbacks but benefits too, and you could easily create an autistic character who's specialized themselves in a skill needed for the team in the adventure stories. I do seem to spot a tiny bit of a rise of making the nerd character in these groups autistic, but that's not without its flaws either. Like, personally I am kinda bummed adventure/fantasy/sci-fi is making us the scientific-kind of genius whenever we do get an autistic character. So many people with autism also are genius with their hands, just look at Leonardo DaVinci who people deem to have possibly been autistic. Where's the jack-of-all-trades kind of autistic character who fills in the slot of whatever the team needs right now? Like the one who builds the camp, builds weapons, helps out medically- that kind of genius. At best, we get someone who creates weapons on top of being a science nerd and I'm kind of tired that we're constantly being sent to the tech-savvy genius corner (not just in stories, but also in real life when it comes to how autism-friendly job spaces are usually tech related). Our 'talent' comes in so many more shapes and forms then just being good with tech. Where is a character like the one from the Good Doctor in an adventure type story fullfilling the healer role? I really hope we're getting to see characters like that some day (and well-written because if the character is as insulting as that Sia movie then I'd rather prefer no representation at all).

Visiting family for Thanksgiving is hard.
Not because of politics. I'm incredibly grateful for that. My whole family, both sides, everyone that's living that we have any regular contact with, is a dedicated liberal. My great-grandparents were too, apparently.
No, it's because my grandfather on my mom's side used to be a rocket scientist. He literally worked on some of the computer systems for the Saturn V rocket back in the day. But... he has parkinson's disease. And he's had it for a while. And it's taken his memory.
It's zapped most of his short term memory and scrambled a lot of the long term memory for about the last twenty years - so far as I can tell.
My grandmother is still sharp as a tack. She has arthritis and had hip replacement surgery and is clearly annoyed that she isn't as mobile as she'd like, but she's mentally completely present. She learned how to use an iPhone three years ago, because she wanted to learn how to text. Mostly, she was totally capable of figuring it out herself, she was just very anxious because her experience with technology includes things like "My husband found that the best place to ground his HAM Radio in our apartment was the metal shower (which keeps shocking me now)". Upon learning that it's really hard to permanently damage an iPhone, she has overcome much of her anxiety and is at least as tech savvy as my mother. She likes texting.
My grandfather though. He somehow managed to mess up their television system, his desktop computer, his bedroom television, and their wifi.
Here is what was wrong:
The surge protector for the cable box, blu ray player, and apple TV was off.
The cable box was not plugged in.
His bedroom TV had been reset somehow, likely by accident. It needed to be re-synced to the cable channels.
His computer was plugged in, as were two mice. The monitor and keyboard were not plugged in.
The wifi router had an ethernet cable coming out of one ethernet port that then plugged back into the other ethernet port. That may or may not have caused the problem but it definitely didn't help.
He'd forgotten his computer password and god only knows what happened to the paper where he wrote them all down.
It's fixed now. It's all, as best I can tell, currently functional. And I got him to let me put the side of his computer box back on. It looked like it had been pried off with a crow bar. Probably the crow bar inexplicably sitting on his desk. He was about to start pulling away at the circuitry, made extra concerning by the way he had misidentified the CD-rom drive as the hard drive.

🚖the full Aidan and Delamain tea pls
Ooooh Delamain~
Firstly, I am a firm believer that Delamain has some sort of feelings for V in canon. Like his splits in personality being triggered not like after meeting V, going outside of his service area to pick V up, and helping Goro administer first aid. Then you have the quotes about him questioning love- Like???
That context provided. Aidan for the most part likes Delamain, she'll never quite understand why he went out of his way for her but wouldn't change the agenda for Jackie which still upsets her a bit. But he saved her life, so how much can she truly be mad at him?
Honestly, the concept of AI and stuff like it has always freaked Aidan out a bit. She's not particularly net or tech savvy beyond fixing up cars or bikes. So, it feels really beyond her comprehension. Which I think is part of why she feels very prone to "humanizing" AI, because "if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck- it's a fucking duck". Delamain looks and acts like a human for the most part, so she just treats and sees him as one. He's nice, he's helpful, he tried to make her laugh by parroting one of Jackie's dumb jokes- looking at his weird AI splits, he's clearly mentally ill which she can relate to.
Only with the Delamain that discusses the Blackwall and seems to know things about her that he shouldn't, does she ever really feel herself second guessing how human Delamain and his splits/children are
And she struggles a lot with that final choice. She hates hearing main Delamain in pain and hates that he's struggling, but crippling and snuffing out sentiment offshoots of his code/his soul feels so fucking wrong. (Especially the Delamain she talked off a ledge- that Delamain is her son now)
Overall, she really likes Delamain and cant quite fathom why the sentient AI seems to like her so much.
#cyberpunk 2077#aidan becker#delamain#THANK YOU FOR THE ASK FREN#also i may have delamain involved in some spoilery stuff for my fic but you didnt hear that from me

Death Streamer Review: Yet Another Bad Charles Band Film
Charles Band’s Death Streamer attempts to merge vampire lore with the internet age in a high-concept horror movie that sadly falls flat in execution. Despite its intriguing premise—combining vampirism with live streaming and a growing internet fandom—the film struggles to maintain momentum, coherence, or a sense of genuine terror. Co-written by Neal Marshall Stevens, this movie feels less like a fresh take on supernatural horror and more like a missed opportunity weighed down by uninspired performances, underwhelming special effects, and an overreliance on clichés. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iW6pSPThpE Premise: The core premise of Death Streamer certainly has potential. A modern-day vampire named Arturo Valenor (Sean Ohlman) is equipped with technologically advanced glasses that allow him to traverse the real and virtual worlds, hunting victims and broadcasting their deaths online. He builds a grotesque cult of personality, where internet users become obsessed with watching him feed. In today’s culture of influencers and live-streaming, it’s easy to see how such a concept could resonate with a sense of voyeuristic horror. A disjointed execution: Unfortunately, the film’s execution of this premise is disjointed. Rather than building a chilling atmosphere or investing time into developing the central concept, Death Streamer feels more like a series of violent vignettes loosely strung together. The pacing is erratic, lurching between scenes of Valenor’s live-streamed hunts and the efforts of three young supernatural investigators—Alex Jarvis (Aaron McDaniel), Juniper (Emma Massalone), and Kaitlin Moore’s unnamed character—who seek to bring him down. The film never manages to strike a balance between horror, technology, and storytelling. Instead of giving viewers an immersive look into Valenor’s growing internet empire or his digital presence, the film bombards audiences with repetitive, formulaic scenes that do little to push the narrative forward. Weak characters: Character development is one of the most significant weaknesses of Death Streamer. As a protagonist, Arturo Valenor is neither menacing nor memorable. Sean Ohlman’s portrayal of the vampire lacks charisma, and while he delivers on the creepy factor in a few isolated moments, his performance never reaches the level of chilling gravitas needed to make the character feel dangerous or compelling. Valenor’s motivations remain murky, and rather than diving into the psychology of a vampire who thrives on the attention of the digital age, the film merely scratches the surface. Similarly, the trio of investigators who attempt to track down and stop the vampire are poorly fleshed out. Alex Jarvis, played by Aaron McDaniel, is the stereotypical leader who believes in supernatural phenomena, while Emma Massalone’s Juniper serves as the skeptic who eventually gets drawn into the horror. Kaitlin Moore’s character is so underdeveloped that she barely registers as anything more than an obligatory third wheel. The dynamic between these three is cliché and fails to add any emotional weight to their fight against the bloodthirsty streamer. Audiences are given little reason to care about their survival. Visuals: Death Streamer doesn’t shy away from blood, but the film’s overreliance on shock value becomes tiresome quickly. The streaming scenes—where Valenor feeds on his victims for the entertainment of his online audience—feel gratuitous rather than impactful. While there’s certainly a place for gore in horror films, Death Streamer fails to balance this with moments of genuine suspense or psychological terror. The visual effects used for Valenor’s high-tech glasses and his virtual world pursuits are laughably cheap. Rather than adding a futuristic or unsettling edge, these effects come across as dated and amateurish, further pulling the audience out of the film. For a movie that aims to be about a tech-savvy vampire, it’s disappointing to see that the technology itself is represented so poorly on screen. Practical effects: Moreover, the use of practical effects for the vampire’s feeding sequences feels more like an homage to low-budget 90s horror, which would be fine if the rest of the film supported this nostalgic aesthetic. However, Death Streamer doesn’t commit to a consistent style, leaving the gore scenes feeling more like afterthoughts meant to shock rather than scare. While the film’s premise holds promise, the script does little to elevate it beyond basic genre conventions. Vampires hunting in the modern world is a theme that has been explored before, from Blade to 30 Days of Night, but Death Streamer fails to bring anything new to the table. The vampire’s use of technology is a fascinating idea, but it’s overshadowed by tired tropes like the overconfident investigator, the reluctant skeptic, and the inevitable showdown in an abandoned warehouse. Huge lack of suspense: The lack of suspense is one of the film’s greatest downfalls. The investigators’ pursuit of Valenor never feels urgent or dangerous. Scenes that should be tense, such as the trio’s encounters with the vampire, are undercut by predictable outcomes and a lack of stakes. The film fails to generate a sense of dread or fear, which is crucial in horror. Instead, it relies too heavily on the concept of Valenor live-streaming his kills, which loses its novelty after the first few scenes. Overall: Death Streamer is a film with a solid concept that’s wasted on poor execution. What could have been a chilling exploration of the intersection between technology and vampirism turns into a forgettable, low-budget horror film that relies too heavily on gore and clichés. The lack of character development, cheap effects, and failure to build suspense make Death Streamer a disappointment for horror fans looking for something fresh. While it may find an audience among fans of Charles Band’s brand of schlocky horror, Death Streamer ultimately fails to deliver on its premise. Read the full article
