Ranking All Books by Holly Jackson
Since I've read all of Holly's books, I'm going to rank them! Disclaimer: This is my opinion. If we don't have the same opinion, then respect that. Let's go!
Warning: this may contain spoilers for all books published by Holly Jackson. If you don't want to be spoiled, then scroll away.
6. Killjoy (2021)
Tumblr media
I found this story cute! Very fun and fast-paced. I loved seeing how it all started and loved seeing the friend group's dynamic again. I just found this to not be the best out of all of Holly's books (granted this is a novella, but it's not my fave). Also, too much Ant Lowe in my opinion. I would have preferred more Jamie Reynolds. Also, I personally think Connor and Zach should've kissed but oh well.
Overall, fun book! If you wanna go back to where it all started, then this novella is worth it.
5. Five Survive (2022)
Tumblr media
Guys... I have a reason why this book is ranked so low. I'm going to start by saying that I did not hate this book. I found the story intriguing and was engaged once the action started. For her first standalone, this book was really good and exceeded my expectations. My main problem with this book was that I found that I could care less about the characters. Personally, I found Red Kenny to be a weak protagonist in comparison to Pip and Bel and, not to mention how I could care less about Red and Arthur. Red and Arthur are cute, but honestly, I could care less if they got together or not.
Again, I don't hate this book. For Holly's first standalone, it was really good. However, I found that I didn't really care for any of the characters.
Overall, good book! Wish I connected more to the characters because the premise is incredible.
4. Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020)
Tumblr media
All books in the AGGGTM series are five star reads in my opinion, but I find this the weakest book in the trilogy. Honestly, I love this book with my whole heart. Coming from being Connor Reynolds's biggest fan, I love how much he appeared in this book and how he aided in finding Jamie.
I think this book suffers from what I've dubbed "Sequel Slump" - meaning that the first book is so good that the sequel "slumps" in comparison. In this case, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is so good that this book just "slumps" in comparison, and I think it's because it takes a while for the mystery to officially begin, since we're taken through a quick recap over the previous book's events and then the memorial.
Also, I personally think that Connor and Zach should've kissed. Connor going to Zach's house to play Fortnite after the memorial? Very fruity to me (joking... or am I?)
Overall, love this book. Wish it got more recognition in the fandom.
3. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (2019)
Tumblr media
LOVE THIS BOOK. This book is fast-paced, thrilling and mysterious. It has a healthy dose of mystery and romance, along with characters I truly felt interested in. Pip's an amazing protagonist who fought hard to prove Sal innocent and find the real killer under the guise of her EPQ, all as she got the guy (Ravi Singh) in the end.
I loved that this book kept me guessing until the very end. I was suspecting everyone (Max, Jason, Naomi, Elliot, etc) and was genuinely surprised finding out Elliot killed Sal. Holly had written him to be such a likeable person that I couldn't believe he would kill Sal just so he could frame him as Andie's killer. AND BECCA? Never would've guessed it. Holly Jackson knows how to write compelling thrillers and I love that for her.
My only real complaint is again, Zach and Connor should've kissed. Connor honey I get that you liked Pip, but Zach Chen is literally right there. You boys are soulmates and I pray that the show recognises that (along with LauCara).
Overall, AMAZING BOOK. Deserves all the hype!
2. As Good as Dead (2021)
Tumblr media
AHHHHH I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. THIS BOOK IS HOW YOU END A TRILOGY GUYS. From the beginning, I was hooked by the mystery of Pip's stalker. This book broke my heart with Andie's email - poor girl was so scared of her father and died trying to escape him. I really like how this book doesn't give Andie a full redemption arc, rather it explains her actions. It really humanises Andie - a girl who grew up in a toxic environment and died trying to save herself and her sister.
My heart shattered when Pip broke up with Ravi. AND HIS SUGGESTION WAS TO MARRY SO THEY COULD GET SPOUSAL PRIVILEDGE??? RAVI FUCKING SINGH WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME???
The ending? EVIL. FUCKING EVILLLL BUT I LOVE HOLLY EITHER WAY. In my heart, I believe Pip got back together with him and they married. They also got another golden retriever in my mind after they got married.
Only complaint was WHERE WAS ZACH CHEN? CONNOR AND HIM SHOULD'VE KISSED WTF. Not to mention Lauren and Cara... Love my girl Steph though. Hoping that Lauren and Cara are a thing in the show though since we don't know much about Steph.
Overall, BEST BOOK IN THE TRILOGY GUYS.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price (2024)
Tumblr media
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
THIS BOOK... I WILL ONLY SAY ONE WORD: BRILLIANT.
When Holly Jackson said that this book was her favourite, I can see why it is. While I struggled to get into it from the beginning, once I read past 100 pages, I was hooked. Bel Price is such a complex protagonist that I could find myself relating to. All the characters were just so complex and you truly don't know who's lying until the very end, when we find out (spoiler alert) that Charlie (Bel's dad) had ordered his father to kill Rachel.
Not to mention how insane the sibling plotline was??? I NEVER WOULD HAVE SUSPECTED THAT CARTER WAS RACHEL'S BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER. My heart broke when Rachel spoke about how Patrick took Carter away from her when Carter was only two weeks old. The Price family are truly disgusting - Rachel, Bel and Carter deserved so much better.
Also, I preferred the romance between Ash and Bel over Arthur and Red. Ash is such a fun character and I was genuinely sad when him and Bel weren't endgame. I believe that one day, in the near future, they reunite and get together officially.
Overall, LOVE THIS BOOK. If you haven't picked this up yet, then do so now!

Hello! Hope your day's going alright!
Here's some stuff, don't feel like you have to answer all! Just throwing my thoughts here ^^
For DBD:
- What are / would be the fav sweets/snacks of your fav Killers? (And survivors)
- Any HCs / fav or unusual ones or just ones you like that you didn't get the chance to share before?
- How did your fav Killers react the first time they learned Survivors come back after death?
For RE:
- Any S.T.A.R.S. plots? (I'm a found family type of S.T.A.R.S. fan, so preferably nothing romantic)
- What do you think about the idea of Wesker training the dogs that are later seen outside the mansion in RE1? He did work in the security sector for Umbrella for a while
- Any HCs for Wesker's and Sergei's relationship? (NOT romantic, mainly thinking about Sergei being Wesker's mentor / trainer during the project / his time in the special executive training school)
- The snacks/sweets asks applies here too for your fav charas
- Thoughts / HCs for the more underrated / less appreciated characters? Who are they in your opinion?
- Thoughts about the herbs in RE games and how they work? How do the characters feel about them? (There's a herb pie recipe btw)
(Herb pie?????)
DBD
(Not gonna talk abt Wesker here bcs even though he's my fav I will have a chance to talk abt him down in the RE section)
-I think Danny likes stuff like skittles and gummy candies. Fruit stuff he can eat while he writes, or stick in his pocket while he's stalking
-I'd imagine Herman is one of those people like you see in movies when a mortician or coroner is just eating while he works. I can imagine him with a lollipop or some hard candy while he works, and I also think he likes chewy stuff like caramel and taffy
-the whole legion literally eat nothing but engery drinks and chips, and you can fight me
-I've already posted most of my HCs for DBD, or have them in a draft waiting to finish
- I think it pisses Danny off that he can never fully have no witnesses. Even if he can't go to jail now, it's like an OCD itch for him
-Herman probably loves it. He's a sadistic mf and probably loves the dread survivors have when they realize they'll have to face him over and over and go insane again and again
-I think that Frank and Julie don't really care. They just want to get the zoomies and stab. Joey and Susie would probably have some pity, or at least self reflection about how it might be on the other side, but it ultimately won't bother them too much
RE
OMG I love S.T.A.R.S. shenanigans. I hate when people write STARS Wesker like no one trusts him and he acts weird, because the dynamic works so much better if they did trust him and they had a good relationship. Maybe he was a strict or uptight boss, but not an unloved one. And I love to think that part of him didn't want that time to end.
Oh I definitely think he at least helped to train the dogs. They're all named after famous scientists and philosophers.
Tbh I haven't ever played umbrella chronicles bcs I don't have a Wii. But I've watched all the cutscenes from Wesker's sections bcs as I mentioned, I love the fucker. I think that Sergei was probably the one who combat trained him, the same time he was going through classes and college and stuff. So Sergei was probably really familiar with how he fights. I think there was a mutual understanding and respect for most of Wesker's work with umbrella. I think when it came down to the final fight, Sergei would have been overconfident that he could win, thinking that being Wesker's superior prior would give him an advantage. (Dw I don't ship them either)
-Jill likes spicy chips. And like, extreme sour candy. Everyone watches her do it too. It's scary and impressive, and I'm pretty sure she thinks other stuff is bland
-Wesker has a secret sweet tooth. He's embarrassed about it, he doesn't even let William see him eating like that. But his childhood was so full of adult things that I think he still likes really sweet candy and chocolates with fillings and stuff
-Krauser also wants everyone to believe he's better than a junk food diet. But he's not. He likes cola a lot. And like, root beer and cream sodas, but not fruit sodas. I think he also likes stuff like snack cakes and pies and stuff
-Rebecca likes trail mix and nuts and little crackers. She saves really unhealthy food for her crazy coffee concoctions
Omg where are my Billy and Annette stans. Like, they aren't my favs, but I still see like nothing for them. And we need more adorable ship art of Jake and Sherry.
Herbs are rlly weird. I think they eat them, because in re3r with the bugs, the note Jill finds discribes the power plant worker eating the herb to make the bugs leave him. So I think you're supposed to eat them. My favorite herb HC that I saw in a post a while ago is that they don't actually cure the viruses if you've been bitten, they just stop the mutation, which explains how all the main characters manage all the crazy physical feats that they can. (Chris and that damned boulder)

Snack Shack (dir. Adam Rehmeier).
Conor Sherry and Gabriel LaBelle star as slightly douchey best friends in early-'90s Nebraska City coming up with petty schemes to make money, drink beer, avoid trouble, and impress girls. On the surface, the typical teen summer movie shenanigans seem lightweight but reveal more emotional complexities to the immature characters slyly through adolescent adventures hanging out at the public pool. It's a good time to side-steps the usual perils of the less evolved era its set in.

TROTP SPOILERS
I’ll do a non-spoiler review first, then a spoiler one under the Read More
non spoiler review:
I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. To be honest, it was kind of hard to start it, but by halfway through i was thoroughly into it and finished within a few hours. Bel is such a great, complex character and the plot, while slow to start off with, got so crazy and enjoyable. Plus, it really felt like (pretty much) all the characters’ discoveries and assumptions were believable, which is something I really didn’t mind but did notice in the agggtm trilogy from time to time. Personally i would have preferred if the characters had stronger emotional reactions to some things, but thats just me and my thirst for angst lol.
Spoiler review:
CHARLIE PRICE. WHEN I CATCH YOU CHARLIE PRICE. I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN IN HELL AND KILL YOU AGAIN YOU BASTARD
I saw someone predict a wholly irredeemable male character in this book, and look who it is. I said in my last post about trorp that i suspected Charlie, but that was NOT what i was expecting. I would’ve liked to have more of his motivation that just what Rachel said (about him realising she wasn’t falling for his lies anymore) but I mean, that might’ve been it. Can’t expect abusers to be rational after all. i do feel kind of bad for Sherry. She knew it was illegal to take in Carter, yes, and she realised whose baby she was at some point, yes, but I’m surprised Carter had no reaction to her leaving. She did raise her- but I can also tell that Sherry sucked ass though, so maybe that has more to do with it. I would prefer Rachel as a mother too. Jeff… Jeff. He reminds me of that saying, ‘men will always believe other men’. He probably knew in his heart that Rachel was telling the truth, but he made the choice to believe Charlie anyway. They both got what they deserved. i kinda wish some of the secondary characters, like the police chief and Rachel’s mum, got referenced later on. They felt kind of forgotten tbh. That was one thing I liked about Hawkins in agad- his character only got more complex at the end, instead of wrapping up nicely. I feel like that was a little lacking with this other guy (dave winters, i think?)
oh yeah, Ash- unnecessary. He didn’t add a whole lot imo. I enjoyed his scenes, but to me at least it felt like there was more of him that was cut out. This story probably wouldve functioned best if it was just a story about family, without a love interest. (Except Carter. Get that girl a gf and therapy)
but yeah, thats my spoiler filled review!! Overall i give the book an 8/10- not as good as the og trilogy, but still great and thrilling!

Spoiler Review - The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson
Tumblr media
Warning: this review will contain spoilers. If you haven't finished this book, then scroll away.
Rating: 5/5
Fave Characters: Ash Maddox, Rachel Price, Carter Price and Bel Price.
Thoughts:
Holly Jackson... YOU ABSOLUTELY DEVOURED WITH THIS. HOLY FUCKING SHIT I'M ACTUALLY TERRIFIED.
Once again, another Holly Jackson ship isn't endgame. Ash Maddox/Bel Price was giving me flashbacks to PipRavi and I had to take a moment to scream.
The fact I had a feeling that Charlie was involved somehow and was so sure that I was overreacting... Holly Jackson is the expert at making me doubt my own theories with her books and I love that for her.
MY JAW DROPPED WHEN IT WAS REVEALED THAT PATRICK PRICE KIDNAPPED RACHEL. I DID NOT EXPECT THAT OLD MAN TO HAVE KIDNAPPED HER, LET ALONE HAVE ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HIS OWN WIFE YEARS AGO.
The sibling plotline... I did not see that coming. The fact that Rachel had Carter stolen from her broke my heart. She deserved so much better.
I had a feeling Charlie was gaslighting Rachel when we saw the home video of her and Bel just before she disappeared. Fucking despise Charlie Price so fucking much.
I've gotta say that I enjoyed this standalone way more than Five Survive. I did like Five Survive, but I found that for me, it lacked a connection to the characters. I just wasn't that interested in Red as a main character or her relationship with Arthur. But here, with Bel, I was so intrigued and cried over her and Ash not being endgame.
Overall, if you haven't read this book yet, then go pick it up! Holly Jackson never fails with her books and I'm so excited for the next one! - Em
