Thanks for tagging me @pc-corner!
Rule: Share the first lines of the last 10 stories you wrote.
It is only around 0500 hours in the morning, yet B'Elanna feels the most energised she has ever felt in weeks.
When the Daylight Takes Us - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (G)
Susan is shuffling through several pieces of paper in her hand, sighing as she takes in the sight of yet another document to read through.
Long Time No See - ER x Body of Proof crossover, Kerry/Susan (G)
There is no denying that it is an unfamiliar sensation, but she is sure that it is by no means an unwelcome one.
When Moonlight Meets Sunrise - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (T)
"Is he asleep?" Kerry asks Courtney as the latter closes the door of Henry's bedroom behind her.
Miles Away - ER, Kerry/Courtney (G)
The heavy snow is exactly what one would expect from Chicago in December, but it does not stop Abby from stepping outside anyway.
Since We've No Place to Go - ER, Abby & Kerry/Susan (G)
It still does not hurt.
If All That Dies Will Live Again - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (T)
reH bang larghlu’. A loved one is always smelled.
Se han besado tu vida y mi vida - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (T)
As much as Seven is aware that everything around her right now is a holographic simulation, she cannot deny that the feeling of the warm sun against her skin is rather pleasant.
The Warmest Colour - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (G)
“There,” B’Elanna points at a corner of her quarters, where a box-shaped device lies not far from her couch and coffee table. “What do you think?”
When the Night Turns Over - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna & Seven (T)
“Let me get this straight,” B’Elanna says as she scans her tricorder along Seven’s left hand. “You were trying to fix your alcove yourself, only to get electrocuted?”
No Matter What Gets Damaged - Star Trek: Voyager, B'Elanna/Seven (T)

The Letter
this is something i wrote whilst speculating what Kerry wrote Kim at the end of s7. i think i lost her voice a little but i like it anyways. this can be applied to anyone you ship Kerry with.
I wish I could wax lyrical about you to the heavens, for any deity who would listen, but words fail me. I don’t know anything anymore, outside of you, I suppose I don’t know anything about you either, but I’d like to. You have invaded my mind with surreal happy-ever-afters, truths and futures I long to share with you despite already being able to taste my disappointment. I like to think about you however, about what food you like, about the clothes you wear, about the things that make you smile and how I wish I could do that, just once. I tell myself that if you just listened to me instead of hearing me then perhaps you would see good in me, kindness, that you could be as enamoured with me as I am with you. Or at the very least that you would like me. However, denial of my own faults is not helpful, comforting yes, but I think I may finally be strong enough to admit I’ve wronged you too, and I believe you deserve to know that I have not unearthed this strength alone, it is all in you. Everything I am, which is good, is for you.
I would promise you a thousand stars, if I knew that’s what you wanted, anything to erase your repulsion of me. Again, I find myself unwilling to concede that maybe you are right. I am so tired of being me it drains me, imagine living with my perfectionistic torment 24/7 arguing and insulting me till I break down then berating me for my weakness, yet telling me what I need to hear the most - that I am disgusting and unworthy. You know this of course. If I think logically, something I am finding increasingly difficult these days, I understand that I could never be good enough for you and in knowing that I would be dissatisfied. So, I guess it’s a good thing that you don’t like me back.
Yet weirdly, I think that you… understand me, better than anyone else I have ever met. You deciphered my flaws and my weaknesses fast. I don’t mean to upset you with this next line, but I do think that our minds are alike, both searching for logic and trying to decipher the world around us. Our methods may be different but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong. I think they could compliment each other.
I find myself longing to be around you, I want to smell you, to absorb you, to make us one and whole, to listen to your stories and for you to listen to mine. I want to make you dinner, to curl up with you on a cold winter’s night with blankets and hot cocoa and marshmallows, I want to be the one to hold you when you cry. I can do it, I can be nice and good, if you were to let me try.
Your words bite me, my heart breaks to hear your mocking and your scorn, and endless reminder that you will never and have never viewed me through the lens which I view you. Nevertheless I find, uncharacteristically, that I am not angry with you, I am wounded and emotional; true. How could I not be? I am human despite what rumour says. But I am not angry with you. I am thankful that you have allowed me to view myself as I truly am, that you have unconsciously inspired me to be a better person. Morally, since my purpose is technically for my eternal happiness, I am still in the wrong, but even if I never get to kiss you good morning and good night. I am so unbelievably glad that we’ve met.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that, I love you.
Take my heart whenever you want it.

The actress, singer, and X Factor contestant Kerry McGregor was born on October 30th 1974.
Kerry had an extraordinary life of triumph over tragedy with so many people describing her attitude as an inspiration to us all. Kerry’s first set back was the loss of her father George, who died in a road traffic accident when she was just 5 years old. Kerry was raised by adoring and single mum Margaret.
She was a budding gymnast, identified to compete at national level but when aged 13, Kerry suffered a broken back, when she fell from a tree, resulting in incomplete paralysis from the waist down. Kerry attended West Calder High School and at that time, the authorities told her, she would need to attend a special school.
Through sheer determination, proving the experts wrong, Kerry defied the odds and crammed all the physiotherapy of 2 years into just 6 weeks. Kerry developed her upper body strength and by using leg braces and crutches alone, Kerry showed she could make her way around the school and was permitted to remain in mainstream schooling. The following year, Kerry won the UK Child Achievement Award and described it as her “proudest moment”.
Kerry continued on crutches for as long as she could and developed her passion for the Arts. Furthering her education and dream of becoming a recording artist, she attended Jewel and Esk Valley College, in Edinburgh and learned her trade. From 1993, Kerry formed various bands and recorded albums which were minor hits. She was talent-spotted by Kenny MacDonald (manager of The Proclaimers) and in 1997, recorded an entry to the Eurovision Song Contest that was runner up in the UK competition. Kerry had also found fame as an actress, in both theatre and on screen, appearing in BBC1’s Grange Hill and Channel 4’s The Book Group. Kerry’s desire to lead a normal life while getting results continued, exposing the stereotypes associated with disability.
It was as a contestant in The X Factor TV show where Kerry was to capture the hearts of millions. Mentored by Sharon Osbourne Kerry reached the final 10, featuring weekly on the live shows in the memorable year Leona Lewis won the show. After the show, Kerry continued to perform sell out shows and managed to juggle being a singer-songwriter and mum to Joshua and loving partner to Dean Robertson. Kerry used her popularity and celebrity status at every opportunity to drive media attention for those affected by disability, giving hope and inspiration to millions. She worked with several charities representing women, children and the disabled including; Spinal Injuries Association, Voluntary Sector Gateway, Leonard Cheshire Disability, CLIC Sargent and many others.
Kerry’s achievements and attitude made her the perfect role model and obvious candidate for many events associated with various disabilities. However, in September 2010, after a long period of feeling unwell, Kerry was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She underwent extensive treatment but continued to support and raise awareness for a number of charities and also develop her own projects. She was appointed Ambassador to the UK’s first charity dedicated to fighting bladder cancer, Action for Bladder Cancer (ABC). Despite losing her trademark long blonde hair and the treatment almost leaving her deaf, she also continued writing and recording.
Kerry had been supported to perform at the opening ceremony for 2012 London Paralympics Games and was also set to record a charity duet with superstar and fellow West Lothian lass, Susan Boyle, who had paid tribute to Kerry in her book as her inspiration to go on the hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent but sadly Kerry’s health quickly deteriorated and on 4th January 2012, she passed away at her home aged just 37.
Kerry’s funeral took place on Tuesday 10th January, near to her home in West Lothian. Police closed off roads as hundreds of friends and fans attended to pay their respects to a truly inspirational but humble lady, who was loved by so many

Aricka and Billy adopt Max
(Aricka x Billy, Aricka and Max, Billy and Max)
(Warning: court proceedings, pregnancy test mention)
Summer of 1986:
It had been a grueling year and a half. From saving to hire an attorney, to home visits, to getting paternal rights stripped, to filing the petition, to finally get to this moment.
Aricka and Billy were finally able to adopt one Maxine “MadMax” Eden Mayfield. After today; she’d be Maxine Eden Munson- Billy and Max wanted to take Aricka’s last name, and let the Hargrove name die off. Max hadn’t been able to sleep for weeks, neither did Aricka or Billy. They were all too worried Susan would object, too worried Neil would escape prison. Too worried something UpsideDown related would happen and they would miss the court date.
But finally, at last, the day had come. The three woke up early, since the finalization was in a court in Indy, and quietly got dressed. Max was wearing a dress without argument, since Aricka was able to find some that suited her style, that weren’t overly feminine or girly. The one she wore today was a warm teal, which went down to her knees, and she paired it with black leggings, a white cardigan wrap, black sandals and she pulled her hair up in a bun. She glanced at her reflection in the mirror- she still looked like herself, but she felt more grown up than she had before. She grabbed her bag with her book, sketchbook, and colored pencils before leaving her room.
Aricka was wearing a pair of black slacks, a white cable knit sweater, and black boots. Billy was wearing his favorite red shirt- all the way buttoned even though he felt nervous, black jeans and his nice boots.
As she finished her hair, he came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and burying his face in her neck. “You realize after today we’re technically parents?” He asks. Aricka smiles at the thought.
“Good thing Max is such a good kid,” she says. “She does what she’s told when she’s told, she makes good grades and decisions, and she has a solid support system. I think we’re gonna be fine.” She turns around and puts her hands on his shoulders. “You’ve been a great support figure for her since you met her. You’ve always protected her, shielded her even when your methods weren’t the best. You were in survival mode as much as she was, and you never blamed her for anything.” She kisses him once, twice, three times. “We’re all this together, my sweet boy.”
He nods, kisses her once, twice, three times. “I love you,” he offers shyly. She smiles softly back.
“I love you even more.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Max stuck close to Aricka as they walked into the courtroom, Billy’s hand on her shoulder. “Please be seated in the front row, the judge will be in shortly,”‘the bailiff said. Aricka quietly thanked him as they took their seats.
Max gripped Aricka’s hand as they walked into the courtroom, Billy’s hand on her shoulder. “Please be seated in the front row, the judge will be in shortly,”‘the bailiff said. Aricka quietly thanked him as they took their seats. The 15 year old sat between her sister in law and big brother as they waited for the final hearing to begin.
“All rise, the US District Court of Southern Indiana is now in session, the honorable Judge Alan Kerry presiding.”
Everyone stands as the judge enters, and the soon to be family glances at each other in nervous and excited anticipation. “Please have Maxine Mayfield sworn in,”
The judge says. Max stands and approaches the bench as she’s sworn in. “Now, Max- I remembered you prefer to be addressed as such- do you understand why we’re gathered here today?”
“Because my older brother and his wife want to adopt me,” she says with a tremble of emotion in her voice. The judge’s face softens.
“Max, do you want Aricka and Billy to adopt you? To have parental rights over you and to protect you until you come of age, and even after that?”
“Of course I do- they’ve basically raised me since I was nine,” she says.
“Alright. Please be seated.” Max sits and Aricka and Billy hug her close. “Mr. William Munson please approach the bench.” Billy gets up and does as told, swearing in as his sister had. “Now William- is Maxine your half-sister, whose mother married your father?”
“Yes Your honor,” he says.
“And they both have waived their parental rights for Maxine?”
“Yes, your honor,” Billy replies. The judge nods.
“Mrs. Maxwell in your professional opinion, is this the best option for all involved parties?”
“Max loves her brother and sister in law. Yes this is absolutely the best option for all involved parties.”
“Mr. Munson do you want to adopt Maxine Mayfield? To have parental rights for her until she’s of age, and even after that time?”
“Yes,” Billy said. He never thought he’d be a parent so young, but he loved his little sister more than he thought possible. And he knew Aricka did, too. This was what they’d been working toward for three years now. Not a chance of cold feet in sight.
“Please rejoin your sister. Mrs. Aricka Munson please approach the stand.”
The judge asks Aricka the same questions and she answers each one with a firm confidence. “If I may have William and Maxine return to the stand please.” Both of them stand and join Aricka up front. “After carefully reviewing this case, the visit findings and all the required procedures, I am very pleased to announce that I am now going to sign the document which will proclaim one William Dacre and one Aricka Estelle Munson the legal guardians of one Maxine Eden Munson. May I be the first to offer a warm congratulations on becoming an official family.”
The three turn to each other and Max jumps into Billy’s arms, Aricka wrapping her arms around them both, all parties crying and laughing. “Thank you, your honor.” Aricka says suddenly, Max and Billy echoing her sentiment.
“You are most welcome,” he says. “Court’s dismissed! Miss Munson, would you like the honor?” He offers her the gavel, and Max smirks- an echo of Billy’s own- and accepts the gavel, tapping it firmly on the bench three times.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The three burst out of the courtroom together, hands linked as they head to Billy’s Camaro. Aricka gave up her passenger seat so the siblings could have a moment together to talk and process what had happened, smiling as she snapped a Polaroid of the moment. Billy had wrapped an arm around his sister tightly, like she might vanish if he let go. Max was leaning towards him with her head on his shoulder, the two whispering things Aricka couldn’t hear.
Soon they left the parking lot and headed to Max’s favorite fast food place- Wendy’s- and got a celebratory supper. They chatted together and made plans for Max’s official move-in day to the house Billy and Aricka owned. Max was still gripping Aricka’s hand, the latter still with one surprise up her sleeve.
“Well…” she began as she finished her sweet tea. “I know today has been super emotional but I have one more piece of good news to share.” She smiles at Billy. “We’ve been married exactly one year, my beloved. And remember me asking if you’d ever want kids of your own?”
“I said yes if it was with you,” he nods.
“Well….” She pulls a small box out of her purse. “Open it.”
He does and his brow furrows as he takes in the pregnancy test. Then it hits him. “Wait…”
Aricka nods, tears glistening in her eyes. “We need to paint the second guest bedroom my darling. We’re gonna have a baby; and Max, you’re gonna be a big sister-!”
Max absolutely squealed and hugged her sister in law, “I’m gonna be the best sister/aunt ever,” she promised.
“I know, Max. I know you will.”

20 + 52 for Kerry and Susan?
Teacher AU + Marriage of Convenience
It’s the 1930s and Susan and Kerry are both teachers at the same school.
Susan Lewis teaches geography, having spent a considerable time travelling herself and learning about different cultures. She is back in the states to share her interest with her students, however rumours regarding her lack of marriage and fondness for women fly around the school.
Kerry Weaver teaches chemistry, making her the only female science teacher in the district. She is married to a university lecturer, whom of which she met in college. However, unbeknownst to all around them, their marriage is one of convenience only and her husband has a male lover.
In true Susan and Kerry fashion, they often find themselves at conflict when it comes to their differing teaching philosophies. But as the time passes, Kerry realises that her marriage is as much as a convenience to her as it is for her husband when she falls in love with Susan.

Kerry’s eyes traced the mulberry patterns intertwine then separate then briefly meet together again followed by a small gap before they finally made themselves whole, ending in solid semi-circles at the opposite end of the duvet, striking loud against the cream which predominated the piece.
She was supposed to be happy, finally released loud and proud into society, herself - different, yet still beautiful. So what was wrong with her? Because she didn’t feel like that. She didn’t feel like that at all. The burning in her throat came in waves of strength whilst her heart felt like a large block of ice that had plummeted into her stomach. As for the rest of her body, it all just felt numb. Numb and useless. For the first time in a long time, she felt small, really small. Peering eyes had followed her throughout the ER as she tried to pretend that everything was ok, that she had wanted that to happen. That… what they thought didn’t matter to her. She was their boss after all. It shouldn’t.
But if she couldn’t even convince herself, how on earth could she convince anyone else?
After leaving work she had stormed over to the Fire Station where Sandy worked to give her a piece of her mind, chew her, and spit her out as Sandy had done to her. Returning the favour. But she had been left feeling even worse.
Even more hated and alone than she had before which was something considering… everything.
And she knew that if she passed away in her sleep, no one would care. No one would come to her funeral, no one would mourn. And as devastating as that is, she felt at peace. For once in her damn life, she wanted to be quiet. To hide. To return back into her bulletproof shell and never leave.
There was a light tap on the door.
Kerry ignored it. It could wait. Probably a door-to-door salesperson. Not worth her time.
A slightly louder knock followed, and then a loud buzz.
This now seemed more like a person, perhaps… Sandy?
Kerry’s heart fluttered in hope. And it was this alone which eventually forced her to get one and then two legs out of bed, wrapping her body tightly in her silk dressing gown before slowly making her way to the door, leaning on nearby furniture to do so.
When Kerry got to the door she took in a small breath, closing her eyes to rack up the courage to be able to speak coherently in front of her again. She didn’t want to relax her guard, or to let her anger completely ease off but what she really didn't want - was to be alone. And it was this sole urge for companionship that drove her resolve to forgive Sandy. She had found herself in the past year and despite her still wavering confidence in her sexuality she couldn't deny that she had never felt more complete, more understood, lighter, and happier since she had discovered she was a…
Lesbian.
In one quick movement, she turned her key in the lock and pushed down the door handle pulling it towards her, she opened her eyes expecting to see Sandy on the other side apologetic and soft but instead she saw someone whom she did not expect. Dr. Lewis.
“I-” Kerry started, her face dumbfounded.
Susan just smiled, 75% convincingly, holding up a bag to her face filled with a lovely aroma of spices.
Kerry looked at her suspiciously.
“I’ve brought you dinner,” Susan said, after a beat, trying to ignore the deep feelings of anger and frustration which she had always associated with Kerry.
“Oh thank you,” Kerry replied eventually, peering at the bag from where she was standing, frozen to the spot, “Why don’t you come in?” She added awkwardly her voice catching on the words and she squinted her nose and eyes slightly in embarrassment of herself, letting out a small sigh.
Susan just continued to smile and stepped into the door as Kerry shuffled out of the way before she closed the door.
“Please come on through.” Kerry said, “oh, and shoes off before you come in please.”
Susan had expected that to be the case, she smiled playfully to herself as she slid her shoes off.
Kerry stood, watching her uncomfortably, wondering what she would do and also questioning as to why this had happened in the first place. She bit her lip and curled her right ankle around to scratch at the back of her calf, which wasn’t the best idea as within seconds she began to lose her balance. Before she really had the opportunity to fall or to steady herself, Susan caught her outstretched arms ensuring she stayed strictly upright.
Kerry was shocked. Not only by the sudden contact but also of the position she was in with regards to Susan. She was staring directly at Susan’s chest. Well, where her chest was below her periwinkle jumper. Her eyes widened and she raised her head to look at Susan before shaking herself back into reality and straightening up allowing Susan to let go of her arms. Despite this, the place where she had touched her, burned.
When Kerry looked back at Susan she noticed her empty hands. But where was the food? Oh, Susan had just placed the bag on the floor. She needed to get a grip.
Kerry made to brush off her slacks only to find silky material there instead and that is when she realised that she was in fact not wearing her day clothes at all but her night-time things, and her cheeks began to glow red.
But Susan didn’t care, she just picked up her takeout bag and gestured towards the entrance to the living room, “This way?”
Kerry swallowed and then nodded, a bit too fiercely. Susan smiled and Kerry followed her into the living room.
“Do you have any films?” Susan asked as she sat herself down on the sofa.
“What do you mean?”
“Just… films.”
“Yeah, I mean, uh… kinda, maybe not the type you’re thinking of though...” Kerry’s voice tailed off.
“That’s alright, we can just watch whatever’s on.”
Kerry stood, passively watching Susan turn on the tv and set out the food she had brought with her onto the table before her. After a moment it registered that this may appear strange so in a hurried shuffle made her way to sit down next to Susan. She placed her hands politely on her knees and looked pointedly at the carpet in front of her. Susan glanced over.
“Are you alright?” She wondered aloud, a touch of a laugh in her voice.
Kerry furrowed her eyebrows, her mouth twitching in tandem, “Yeah, I-” she let herself process what she wanted to express before she turned abruptly round to Susan and queried, “Why are you here?”
The harshness of her voice and the absence of friendliness in Kerry’s general demeanour led Susan to feel as if she was being interrogated, as if she wasn’t welcome in Kerry’s home, and by breaching this unspoken contract of keeping distance between employer and employee she had perhaps angered the beast without intending to. It would not be the first time. But as she took her time to consider Kerry’s apparel, the soft plea in her eyes, and her stiff, clunky posture, the way she glanced at her leg every so often as if she was worried something would happen to it. But what could it possibly undergo? Except… judgement. Kerry’s defensiveness, her ferocity, so present in Susan’s life as a constant adherence and annoyance was down to experiences like she had had today. Susan could see that now. She knew that in the past she had only helped contribute but today maybe she could change that, but first, she needed Kerry to trust her.
Susan relaxed her shoulders and placed the empty take-out bag onto the floor underneath the sofa before she began.
“To cut a long story short; I’m bi.” She looked up to catch her eyes with Kerry’s as if to prove she was telling the truth before she continued, “And, when I was in high school, there was this most beautiful girl, she had dark hair and the pinkest lips and her voice always sounded like she was singing.” Susan closed her eyes, reminiscing.
“We were best friends, her and I, and we did everything together. I was intoxicated, but there was nothing I could have really done about it. I had a massive crush on her. I don’t know how they knew, perhaps I hadn’t hidden it as well as I’d thought but some of the boys in my year started teasing me about it, asking if I was a ‘lesbigay or whatever, and when I obviously didn’t respond and got embarrassed they um, they decided to announce it to the whole school.”
Kerry’s mouth opened, stunned into silence. This wasn’t what she had expected at all! Setting aside the fact that Susan was also gay, Kerry listened to her story with deep compassion, and horror. She tried to express her sympathies but only managed to stare at Susan wide-eyed and she hoped that the empathy she felt in her heart managed to express itself well enough on her face.
After looking at Kerry's face, Susan continued, “Yeah, it was pretty terrible, I lost a lot of friends that year. But um...” She paused for a second, considering her next words. “The thing that happened to you today reminded me of that and I couldn’t rest easy staying at home and thinking about it so I came over and did what I wish someone, a friend, or a parent even, had done when I was in that state. Because it is tough, and it is lonely. And no matter the shit that’s happened between us in the past, no one deserves that, no one. So as allies, I guess, let’s just pretend everything’s okay, just for tonight.” Susan smiled at Kerry then, and the redhead began to understand how much she had needed a friend, someone who would accept her, and understand why she had to hide. Someone to let her know she wasn’t alone.
“But anyway!” Susan clapped her hands together with a new-found cheerfulness instilled in her, disrupting the melancholy mood immediately. Let’s eat!”
Throughout the evening they talked very little, making mild comments on the hallmark movies or about the food, and Kerry eventually found the strength to thank Susan for her kindness. Once the meal was over, Kerry produced a bottle of Pinot Grigio for the two to share and despite Susan’s inner voice telling her to ‘go home’ she accepted the offer. The alcohol loosened Kerry’s tongue and she was no longer sat like a meerkat on the lookout but instead as if she was spending an evening with a friend. Susan let Kerry cry and rested her head on her, oh the softness of the cashmere against Kerry’s cheek as she buried herself deep in Susan’s softness.
They stayed in that position for a while, even once Kerry’s crying had ceased, Susan would rub her hand up and down her bank comforting her and reminding her that someone was there. Someone who cared about her, who understood her.
The intimacy and the alcohol and the events of the day meant that once Kerry ultimately did lift her head up and came face to face with Susan, so close she could almost feel the light hairs on her face, she was overcome with this urge to kiss her. Not a rough kiss, nor a gentle kiss, more a kiss goodbye or hello, a kiss saying thank you. Her hand tenderly stroking Susan's jawline, suggesting the act was about more than just lust or circumstance.
At first, Susan lent into it, Kerry’s taste being much calmer than she had expected, but once she realised what was happening she pulled herself out of it, gently, so as not to potentially hurt Kerry.
Susan smiled a sweet smile, slightly flushed as if she was sixteen once more and encountering her crush in the cafeteria. “You’re a really good kisser,” she observed trying to relieve some of the deep mortification evident on Kerry’s face, “But not tonight.”
She helped Kerry to her bed before setting herself down on the couch and continued to grin, touching her fingertips lightly to her lips where Kerry had kissed her.
Not tonight, but next time...?
