NotInktober: Angular. I wanted to do something fun and silly and different and I did, and I really like it. I actually drew this a couple of days ago and kept not having the chance to post! As you may have noticed, my drawing-a-day schedule broke. Big time. 🙁 Unfortunately, life AND work got super busy, and sometimes you only have enough energy to scroll through Tumblr. I know I was luck that October went so smoothly. I’ll still keep drawing and posting, though, when I can, and not torture myself when it’s too hard. NotInktober Day 10: Flowing.

This is probably the most self-indulgent piece I've created since I started doing this drawing-a-day thing. But I've been craving doing a drawing with ink washes, and I've also wanted to do something epically romantic. Well, something epically romantic that involved Sherlock Holmes and Beth Lestrade, that is.

I've been a hardcore shipper for these two for a long time, a pretty tiny, obscure ship from a niche ’90s cartoon. But like any hardcore shipper, I love taking these two and throwing them into all kinds of different scenarios—although my favorite is the one that my bestie Ria and I created together, our Doctor Who/Sherlock Holmes crossover "Children of Time." A younger Beth and Sherlock (also much younger, for that matter!) meet because Holmes and Watson have been time-traveling with the Doctor. We never meant this tale to end up as Sherbeth-y as it did, but it did, and the two of them ended up married and this is probably a CoT drawing, really. I told my bestie that I had too many favorite characters I could draw for this prompt, so she made a request! "NSY Beth. and it's SHERLOCK telling her to slow down." And I was like, ouch, that's not good. Any time Sherlock Does-Not-Know-What-a-Vacation-Is Holmes says you're overdoing it, you're REALLY overdoing it! (And I realized too late that I should have drawn Beth with more of the uniform I redesigned. Okay, this quote has never failed to crack me up, mostly because it goes to show just how OLD some slang can be. This is my favorite Lestrade quote, and it's such a shame that Colin Jeavons never got to voice it in Granada.

Speaking of... you hear a lot, of course, about Jeremy Brett being the definitive Sherlock Holmes, and of course they're not wrong, however... I think it's only fair to call Jeavons the definitive Inspector Lestrade. It'd be so easy to make Lestrade a one-note character, and many actors and adaptations have done just that. But Jeavons made him a fully-realized human being with his performance, and I love him so much for it.
