hiiii welcome back to my shen jiu luo binghe roleswap. i wrote this today, and i think i might have to delete it, buuuuut i still like it, so: here you are.
There was a child kneeling obediently on the ground before him. His name was Shen Jiuyu.
Luo Qingling wondered about that name. 九雨. Take a character off, and the boy would be Jiu, lucky number nine in a long line of dirty children tied to the belts of cruel men scavenging through the streets. Luo Qingling still remembered what that was like. Sometimes too well, it seemed. Wasn't it a terrible thing, looking at a promising young disciple's face and only seeing how many coins they'd sell for?
Hey, do you know why everyone calls you Zero? It's because you're not even worth --
Sometimes, Luo Qingling hated children.
It wasn't nice. It wasn't fair. It wasn't good. Luo Qingling did his best not to think about it. An honorable, righteous cultivator couldn't hate children, and even if they did, they certainly weren't allowed to act on it.
The idea of it was there, nonetheless.
"Why did you come to Cang Qiong?" Luo Qingling asked steadily.
Even at first glance, it was obvious that Shen Jiuyu didn't need to. He might have worn the dust of the streets, but he was too polished to pass as any random throwaway urchin. His walk was too smooth, his manners too perfect. When he poured tea, he did so with the grace of a well-trained servant.
A well-trained servant of this young age, especially one that showed signs of literacy, was valuable. Certainly worth more than little Luo Ling. With enough time and ambition, it wasn't impossible for him to become the steward of some rich household and in that way, live a good life.
So, then: why Cang Qiong?

Note
Been scrolling through your profile for a bit and it had me wondering, where did the jiuyu ship even come from?
Shen jiu = died and got his body taken over by an mxtx protagonist
Mo Xuanyu= died and got his body taken over by an mxtx protagonist
I made that correlation and then realized.... they'd both look pretty fire together

Episode 36
Xue Zhao: *calls Xiao Heng his brother-in-law*
Xiao Heng: *bluescreens*
Tumblr media
Oh they *definitely* boned after the camera panned away from that kiss.
And now we know what Xue Li's plan was/what the drug she got from Jiuyue was.
Aaaaand Wanning's time as a hostage absolutely was exactly as bad as I suspected it was. It doesn't excuse what she's been doing but it does explain her interest in Shen Yurong and her jealousy of Xue Fangfei... her feeling like they had something she could no longer have. It also explains why the emperor lets her get away with so much - guilt over what happened to her (and the fact she weaponises it to get her own way as we saw with the changes to the entrance exam).
The fake pregnancy is particularly cruel given her history though - I suspect it's unlikely that Xue Li would have any idea about what she went through as a hostage and her resulting infertility but tbh who knows?
Sure does suck to be an imperial doctor though.
Well, colour me intruiged:
Tumblr media
As a whumper, this gives me sooo many fic ideas! 😂
I freaking love Xiao Heng's friendship with the emperor.
And it turns out their common enemy is Lord Cheng... because Xiao Heng (well both of them really) believes Lord Cheng killed his father in order to take his place at the northern border so he could build prestige and an army to challenge the emperor. (Makes you wonder why the younger brother was chosen as crown prince and not him - with good reason it would seem!)
Meanwhile Shen Yurong continues to be living his worst life. There's no way out for him now he's been babytrapped too and dude is just pretty much dead inside:
Tumblr media
And Xue Li is fully embracing her decision to be the chess player rather than the pawn:
Tumblr media
Hnnnngggh... emperor of Zhao will ally with Yao and provide his troops to the emperor as long as Xiao Heng agrees to his conditions - what do you want to bet his condition is that Xiao Heng marries Jiuyue?
I'm honestly surprised Wanning didn't straight up lose her shit and attack Consort Li.
Ooooh Shen Ruyong is playing some chess master shit himself here. Finding a way to "save" Wanning's baby and reputation that conveniently gets him out of taking responsibility for it/being forced to marry her.
Oof and the visual framing. Literally him now standing above her. He has the upper hand:
Tumblr media
Sucks to be you Li Jin.

Just finished The Double and I haven’t been so immersed in a drama for so long.
Xue Fangfei, Xue Li, A’Li or Jiang Li was such a well written female protagonist because her motives were well written and I like how self aware she was about also working for her own selfish reasons like she never came across as an hypocrite. She was thirsty for revenge and I love that. She had her weaknesses but knew how to use them. She was very smart and it never felt out of place. She wasn’t working alone she had a lot of help from people with resources and I think that balance was well executed. Sometimes she didn’t even need to do the job because her own enemies would do it for her. She avenged both Jiang Li and herself in an iconic way. A Queen. She was excellent.
Xiao Heng was amazing and dramatic. We love a king with good wardrobe and epic entrances. I love how his dynamic with Li started as mostly them using each other to achieve their agendas until they were unable to play pretend with each other. They matched each other’s freaks. He thought he was using her first but she had him wrapped around her finger and she knew and took advantage of it pretty well. The tension, the flirting. I love how everything came down to Li’s consent and choices. Everything felt equal between them. I wish we could’ve gotten more romantic moments between them or actually seeing their wedding but I still like that they were immersed in their own sub plot.
The whole dynamic between Shen Yurong and Princess Wanning was so complex and one of the best written villains arc I’ve seen in a while. I like how Shen was a monster born out of her and he ended up being her downfall. But I also love how we get to slowly discover how he was an hypocrite with not morals. Wanning didn’t transform him into a monster. He was a coward with a self victim obsession, way too worried about his status. You low key finish the season sympathizing with Wanning and while nothing justifies her continuing the cycle of abuse and torture she was subjected to, you can’t help but like her at the end. She for sure had her ending coming and so did he but it was epic. The acting was brilliantly done by those two actors.
I loved the side kicks, Wen Ji (rip king), Lu Ji (rip king), Tong (rip queen), Jingrui, Jiuyue, Liu Xu, the Ye family, and even Shijie at times even thought him liking Jiang Li plot was annoying at times but in general he was a good guy with morals. I loved how she genuinely had good people on her side for the right reasons.
I hated Ji Shuran guts and I feel like I disliked her so much more than Wanning — nothing justifies killing your own sister to marry a man. Also, Yuanbai honey I’m sorry but you weren’t clueless about your own house, you just didn’t care enough but I did end up feeling really bad for him at the end, and kinda love how he takes on Li as his own daughter even at the end.
I feel like every character is well-written and you can see their motivations making sense. I understand where everyone comes from in their actions: good or bad. Like the character work was pretty solid for majority of the characters.
My only criticism is that I feel the end was rushed with the whole war plot that should’ve taken at least 2 episodes but it wasn't that bad and it didn’t ruin my experience with the whole series. I’ll give this drama a solid 9.5 out of 10. The female characters carried the show. The plot felt dragged out at times but knew how to keep you hooked. The performances and the visuals were so amazing. A must watch.

to follow up on the first reply: “perfect match”, coming in 2025, featuring wang xingyue (xiao heng/duke su), liu xiening (jiang ruoyao), liang yongqi (shen yurong), zhao qing (situ jiuyue) & xiao heng’s subordinate is in this too
Tumblr media
Jiang Li (the real one) was robbed of many things before she died, but I was thinking, if her mom really did just died of an illness and stepmom wasn't murderous and evil, it would have been so nice for the three Jiang sisters to grow up together as friends: Ruoyao, Li, and Yue. Ruoyao would have been fine if she didn't grow up so wholly under the control of her evil mother and Aunt Hu was so nice!
Totally different genre though, three sisters who are best friends trying to find the right husbands would be a very different story.

Jiuyu maybe fic outline maybe constant daydream thingy
Story takes not too much time after Mo Xuanyu is kicked out of the Jin sect (one or two years after this event), so his mental stability is probably way worse than it was in canon at the time for his suicide.
While immortal master Shen Qingqiu visits the Mo State for cultivator stuff (maybe in the same mission the Lans were sent to at the start of the story), where he meets half-crazed Mo Xuanyu and somehow manages to have one or two coherent conversations with the very interesting individual.
His lunacy Is extremely apparent but Shen Qingqiu still finds himself very drawn to Mo Xuanyu, who lucid or not, is clearly very smart and knows stuff Shen Qingqiu would 100% be interested in.
When the time comes for the peak lord to leave the state, already having bonded quite a lot in the time Shen Qingqiu was at the state, he finds his newfound friend at the gates of the manor.
Mo Xuanyu kneels in front of him and begs him to either kill him, or save him out of the graciousness of his heart, offering life-long loyalty to him and knowledge About the Yiling Patriarchs notes he spent so much time memorizing in exchange of at least a bit of security to get him out of the hellish manor he is locked in.
Shen Qingqiu agrees, since he's already been bewitched by this so interesting man who's smarts and looks are being wasted in this lowland village, plus the offer of loyalty sounds like an incredibly tempting solution to the loneliness that has been engraved on his heart for so many decades, no matter how much of a trap the offer may be.

Jiang Yuanbai hit the desk and I said to my wife "did Jet just die???"
but anyway
having now watched all of The Double except the last 15 minutes (thanks @lynne-monstr for the head's up because yeah I can see where that was going and I would've hated it), I loved it! cutting for spoilers here
Very fitting ends for all the villains. I've literally been saying "dude, just kill yourself" to Shen Yurong for 39 episodes. He really lost the plot but to be honest I liked him a lot more as a villain trying to match wits with the other players in the game than I did as the sad sack being haunted by his dead wife. I'd say Wan Ning went out like a boss given that she surprised the hell out of Shen Yurong but he also lied to her face about her brother so he sort of manipulated her into doing it? Good job my man. I almost feel bad for Li Jin because yeah he was an enormous tool but he really never had a chance (him smiling at Wan Ning's body was kind of hilarious).
Xue Fangfei/Jiang Li was a certified badass. Xiao Heng is amazing (and hot as hell, we should've gotten more of that look with his hair down). RIP Consort Li you turned out to be a real one. Jiuyue is awesome. Lu Ji and Wen Ji are my boyssssssss. Jiang Yuanbai deserves a quiet retirement in the countryside because honestly, yikes. I feel a little bit of sympathy knowing that he was basically trying to raise the Emperor at the same time all the family bullshit was going on. I do wish we'd seen the Ye family again but understand it would've been hard to work that in.
I wish we'd seen a little more of the school trio towards the end but at least we did see them again. I was afraid the show would end without us ever seeing Jiang Jingrui again and that would've been a tragedy.
Anyway Xue Fangfei for queen of everything, the end!
have watched the first three eps of The Double and hell yeah I am here for this. love a good revenge arc, love clever protagonists and somewhat-less-clever-but-by-no-means-stupid villains. love a man with an endless collection of fans that basically say 'swag' on them.

Young lovers Shen Qingqiu × Mo Xuanyu making a suicide pact AU...
The news of the revival of the Yiling Patriarch became public after years of him marrying hanguang-jun. Whispers about how the young Mo lunatic gave up his soul to revive the Yiling Patriarch are heard everywhere and they inevitably reach the Qing Jing peak lord's ears.
He first hears about the Jin bastard's death on a banquet, his own martial siblings commenting on it, condemning his old lover for giving up his broken soul for a cause not even he could understand.
The Qing Jing lord seems broken throughout the whole banquet after for apparently no reason. His eyes look empty out of nowhere, he doesn't debate with anyone at the banquet, not even moving to snap at his Liu Shidi's attempts to start some banter.
When they finally arrive at Cang Qiong, Shen Qingqiu immediately runs to Qing Jing, though his behavior doesn't seem too out of the ordinary to his martial siblings. The lord has always been a strange rude one and they couldn't bring themselves to care, much less when he had already been acting weird through the whole banquet for who knows what petty reason.
That's the last time they ever see the living peak lord.
lying in a pond of his own blood, scattered lines of what seems to be an array beneath him. His eyes are red with blood and tears, same is his mouth. Both his arms are decorated with one long angry red gash each, so is his throat.
That is the state the Bai Zhan Peak lord finds him after two frustrating weeks of not seeing his prissy shixiong.
When the corpse finally reaches Mu Qingfang's hands he states that the couse of death, contrary to popular belief, wasn't a Qi Deviation, but a plain old bloody suicide, mixed with a soul shattering array, one complicated enough to confirm that it was no outside force who had committed the murder since no one but the Qing Jing scholar would have the skill to form it correcty.
Days later a letter is found in Shen Qingqiu's house. It is a poem, one of love at that, one that states his devotion, his love to one who has already gone away, one who has left him behind without notifying him, not having the decency to even explain his abandon.
It's a shame that it is the sect leader who found it.
After the funeral is done, his altar already set up, Cang Qiong doesn't seem to recover ever again.
His spot is replaced by Ming Fan, as efficient as his master and far more polite, but none of the peak lords can bring themselves to act normally around him, specially with the overwhelming aura of sorrow that comes around him whenever a meeting is due and the sect leader sits beside him.
No one ever figures out who Shen Qingqiu's lover was, some whispering that they never existed, that the peak lord deluded himself. Some say they died, others that they got married to another. The sect leader himself assumes the letter addressed to him.
No one ever knows about Shen Qingqiu's doomed love. His beloved who fell victim to other's scheme, who's mind broke and body he lost to benefit everyone but him.
Their souls banished, never to reincarnate, never to rebirth and meet again.
Poor lovers they were, both dying with the other in mind and heart

Here for the backlog solidarity! I have. A lot. Glad to know I'm not alone! Requesting some [REDACTED] for WIP because I love surprises.
When Shen Jiuyu had been found, washed up on the banks of the river, it had been a miracle. If he hadn't drowned in the river, then the rain should have been the end of him. Nine days of torrential downpour, not even the smallest break of sunshine in between. No one would expect a baby to live through all of that.
Against all odds, Shen Jiuyu had survived.
