First impression

As a kid, I adored Hinata from first sight. I was a shy girl, so I had an automatic bias towards characters who were shy or lacked confidence, and plus, she seemed so cute and nice. She was easily my favorite character.

Impression now

I still adore her a lot, and she’s one of my favorite kunoichi! I wish she could have been given a more focused arc, but even as she is, I love Hinata a lot! I can recognize and appreciate a lot more about her character now that I’m older, like the emotional and physical abuse she’s put through by her family, her devotion to her younger sister and her desire to help Neji, her desire to fight her dad, her kind heart and the love she extends to each and every one of her friends... I just love her!

Favorite moment

The scene where she’s young and she’s fighting Hanabi in front of everyone, but repeatedly pulls her punches because she can’t bring herself to hurt her little sister.

Idea for a story

I want a story where Hinata is taken under the wing of Team Gai. She’d hone her taijutsu skills, and the ideology that Gai imparts on his students about always striving to be better than you were the day before would really benefit her. 

Unpopular opinion

I understand her decision to leave active duty as a ninja, since she makes it clear that it’s not what she wants and she was never given a choice about it as a child. It makes perfect since for her character, and in no way negates her desire to be strong, to hold true to her word, or to be there for her loved ones. She’s not the only character to decide that pursuing the role of a jonin or even of an active shinobi wasn’t for them, so it’s pretty odd that she’s by far the one who gets the most flack for it.

Favorite relationship

That’s a tough one. I want to say how much I love her relationship with Kurenai, it’s such a shame the narrative outright dropped it.

Favorite headcanon

After the chunin exams, Hinata trained together with Team Gai sometimes. She has surprisingly good chemistry with all four of them. They’ve even taught her a bit of Mandarin.

He has such a good heart and is so kind, I love the way he reached out to and loved Kushina, and Kakashi, and Obito, and Rin. He really is just an amazing person, and he was put into incredibly difficult situations that he wasn’t prepared to handle, but he always thought with his heart in the right place at the end of the day. And he’s so adorable with such a loveable personality, the way he names his moves and interacts with the kids forms such a fun contrast to how capable he can be on the battlefield.

Minato loves with all his heart and he’s goofy and sweet, and he has relatively high emotional intelligence.

least favorite thing about them:

His decision to put Kakashi in ANBU really wasn’t wise. I know he only did it to keep Kakashi close to him and he made the offer with Kakashi’s personality in mind, since Kakashi would more easily accept the offer to stay near Minato if it was a duty instead of something openly framed as Minato wanted to take care of him, but it led to some bad stuff down the line.

He wasn’t quite ready to be a teacher, especially not to a team consisting of Kakashi, Obito, and Rin, and especially not during wartime. All things considered, he did well with them, and he made the kids genuinely love and admire him, but a lot of the mistakes came from inexperience.

He is so earnest and devoted. He admires Kakashi soo much, and he’s an excellent mentor to Sai and Naruto and Sakura. Despite knowing how to rule by fear and kill his emotions, Yamato is a very caring guardian and a good role model for Naruto.

Yamato’s been through so much, he’s had his life torn apart and build back up, and it’s a testiment to his strength that he can still be strong when he needs to be. When he singlehandedly rebuilt all those houses or when he saved Sakura from falling off the bridge or when he helped Gai after he was in pain from opening the gates… Yamato’s just so cute and good and after the life he’s lived, he deserves those soft moments of true companionship.

When Yamato is surrounded by everyone and feels like he’s found a home and found exactly where he belongs in his Infinite Tsukiyomi, it’s just so clear how much he values others.

I can’t believe they just shoved him offscreen for, like, the entire war

Actually I have beef with the whole narrative joke of forgetting that Yamato exists. It cuts him out in the same way it cuts out Shino.

Shizune is such a badass. She basically runs the village while Tsunade is Hokage, she keeps so much paperwork in order, she is amicable and capable and she truly, truly loved and admires Tsunade! It’s sweet! And she’s such an important presence in Tsunade’s life, just as Tsunade is an important presence in her own. When Shizune was reminding Tsunade what was important to them so she wouldn’t give in and trust Orochimaru and Kabuto, when Shizune cried and hugged Tsunade because she was just so happy that she was still alive… I love the mother-daughter bond between them!

I love her when she fights too, her abilities with poison and her skill with medical ninjutsu are incredible. 

Plus, how much she loves Tonton and her oversized sleeves! She’s so adorable! I love Shizune a lot!

least favorite thing about them:

I feel bad that there was a lot Shizune wasn’t able to do, despite being Tsunade’s first apprentice.
