i am once again thinking about ashlynn ella and her destiny (shocker), specifically how in some tellings of the cinderella tale there is no fairy godmother but instead a wish granting tree that was planted on her mother's grave

and like depending on the telling, her mother's spirit/soul seems to be present in the tree itself, so like hear me out here, her mother is the tree? specifically slowly becomes the tree...

and like i have a whole thing written in a notebook about ashlynn and her relationship with death which i'll eventually type up. but like can you imagine being considered one of the tales with a happily ever after, but everyone just forgets that you quite literally become your mother, even after watching her become a tree... i mean come on

she doesn't change her name because she doesn't want to, occasionally will prefer a different version of his name like drew or something but for the most part she sticks with it because picking a new one is too much work which like fair

i say trans girl, but really she's genderfluid/agender. gender to andrew is mostly optional– if you feel like performing it you can, if you feel like not bothering, equally valid. she doesn't care.

she may be transgender, but once a goth always a goth. doesn't change her presentation majorly after he figures it out, but will occasionally wear clothes that would ordinarily be more feminine– long cardigan-like jackets, looser shirts, maybe she owns a couple of skirts. i think he'll really just borrow stuff from renee tbh, who has a large selection and is happy to share

the first person to know is betsy. it's something he mentions offhandedly, at first while medicated, but comes back to it sometime in his third year at psu. they talk it over for a while and bee asks if she wants her to refer to him differently. drew shrugs and doesn't really say anything, but betsy keeps it in mind

the second one to find out is renee, because they end up in a debate over gender stereotypes, mostly complaining back and forth about how tedious it is to have to stick to some kind of box the whole time. andrew's firm stance on gender is "what's the point of sticking to a line somebody else drew and told you to stand on?" if you move off the line, what will it do? if you want to pace up and down the line, who cares? tldr: gender? doesn't even make the priority list

technically tells neil, in a fairly roundabout way. neil doesn't really pick up on it for a couple weeks, but andrew's andrew, and that's the only way he swings.

Episode still airing but layla is my best girl and I have a lot to say but I'll start with how important it is to her to know that people are safe.

Her mother died driving home. Her mother died when she was supposed to be safe, and layla has to live not knowing if that was an accident or not. Layla was brought to the edge of the same cliff when struggling herself and also with Carrie (at least I feel like this was confirmed? But regardless...not good memories).

It's incredibly important to layla to know her loved ones get home safe. She needs the got home safe text, and it needs to be in words because that's easier to see and hold onto than a reaction. It means they had to type it out. There's no room for interpretation. She is that friend who makes sure you get home safe even though she struggles with driving because of all her history.

She needs to know when they all do because she knows what it's like to think someone did when they didn't.

Mist who feels useless whenever someone needs comfort, and yet still tries, wraps her arms around the person in need and holds on tight.
