Hi!!! I love your posts! Idk if you've spoken abt this before but I was thinking about how a lot of people say that Rebekah was so wrong for leaving Hope to herself & not helping her much in Legacies.... but like. Hope is supposed to be 18, and Rebekah is 17. I mean, obviously it's kinda hard to write her as a 17yo bc Claire Holt obviously isn't one (no hate or anything - but like she wasn't even a teenager when she started over ten years ago), so I can understand why they write her as more mature than how she was originally, but STILL. Like. Can you imagine. This child who you're supposed to look after is suddenly older than you?? I imagine it'd be so jarring for Bex. (Also, touching on the whole 17 thing... Rebekah with Marcel is lowkey gross in that light. Obviously no grosser than Damon and Elena, but still. Like, especially if Rebekah had been shown to be dating him when she first appeared. That would look really weird, I think.) Anyway I guess I was just wondering if you'd seen that and what you thought of it? :)
Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding!
I personally don't subscribe to the belief that their brains stop developing at the age they are turned. This would cause so many issues throughout the show. Like you pointed out, Hope would grow up to be older than even her own parents at some point. It would make no sense for Caroline to be running a school at 17 years old. Caroline would have been stuck as the insecure, selfish teenager. Elena would have been stuck in her grief. The characters would be incapable of character growth if their brains were permanently stunted. So we have to assume they are capable of growth. Meaning, they are not stuck, mentally, at the age they turn even if they are physically.
I think the other argument here is that Rebekah has spent a large portion of her life claiming to want to be a mother, even at the cost of other people (i.e. fighting Elena and even Klaus for the cure to be human). Yes, of course she is entitled to change her mind and, yes, of course, no sibling should be forced to raise their orphaned niece or nephew. But I think the thing people are upset by is that it goes against everything the Mikaelsons stand for and against the character they created out of Rebekah. I personally hated that they made Rebekah so focused on wanting children, it felt out of character for her most of the time and just because she was a woman, but that is canon. She wanted to give up her immortality and power to be a mother and have that human experience, but then as soon as a child needs her, she is nowhere to be seen. It felt like she wanted a baby, not a child. She loved watching Hope as a baby and was sad to give her back to her parents, but can't even be bothered to call teen Hope? Also, the Mikaelsons were all about "always and forever" to the point of their own ruin, but Rebekah just abandons it as soon as Elijah and Klaus are gone? Again, she has every right to live her own life, but I think Hope also has every right to be mad at her family for abandoning her. I can't even imagine the conversation Rebekah would have in the after life with Elijah, Hayley, and Klaus after she turned her back on Hope.
I also wouldn't think it is jarring to Rebekah to see Hope look physically older than her. She's seen it countless times in her life. They are used to people aging past them. I do think they would make jokes about it, but I think it would just be hard for them to watch Hope age, fearing she could die.
I have talked about Marbekah being strange. Not only cause she saw him as a child and helped raise him, but sure, if we assume Rebekah still has the mindset of a 17 year old, Marcel is older than her by at least five years at that point. But it would also be gross when she slept with Damon since she would still be mentally 17 and he would be mentally 24/25. Again, we have to assume their brains can develop otherwise like all of the ships in the show are gross.
Obviously this is just my opinion on the topics, and not super based in canon since the showrunners are so inconsistent with the brain development/ages. I've seen people make good arguments on both sides.
Thanks for the ask!

missing neteyam
bawling my eyes out.
ive been having this recurring thought/thoughts of neteyam in the afterlife.
and how he says he wants to go home as he's dying.
for some reason my brain decided to come up with the saddest shit:
jake tells neteyam theyre going home as he's dying.
so when neteyam gets to the other side and he's all alone, hes confused; where's dad? where's everyone at? i thought they were coming with me.
it's not home without his family, so he wants to get back to them. but he cant, and he's stuck in the jungle all alone-- i imagine this world is just neteyam's. he's the only one there, free to do whatever he pleases. hunt all he wants, resources are abundant and the fruit is sweet. its perfect, but he's all alone. and he doesn't want to be alone. he wants his parents, his brother, sisters, spider. so his heaven turns out to be his hell.
since all is good in this sanctuary of his, there's no threats, no quaritch, he'd try to find his family and bring them back to it. so they can all live together happily again. tuk can play as freely as she wants. jake and neytiri dont have to worry anymore. kiri can admire all the fauna up close, have herself a ball. and he can finally spend all the time he wants with his baby brother.
so he tries to go looking for them, but of course he cant find them. so he sits, and he waits.
he waits for kiri, spider, and tuk, eager to embrace them all again. to laugh with them, and play.
he waits for his dad, so they can go fishing together.
he waits for his mom, so she can fix his hair and he can listen to her sing.
and he waits for lo'ak to round that corner so he can tell him it's not his fault.
he doesnt know how long he has to wait. he dreams of his family at night, and watches and waits during the day.
sometimes time moves fast.
other times its unbearably slow. and the loneliness sets in.
but he'll keep sitting. and he'll keep waiting.
until someone steps out. he waits for them.
UHM ?? please put me out of my misery
not to mention, when lo'ak joins neteyam, lo'ak will (hopefully) be all grown up. meanwhile, neteyam remains a teen. his little sister is bigger than him now. and so is kiri. everyone kept going, while he was stuck. his parents are grandparents, and hes an uncle without even knowing it. his nephews and nieces would be older than him. lo'ak grows and becomes a father, and neteyam is forever stuck as he was when he died. he never got the chance to experience that kind of love, and he'd never have his own kids.

Shelby Sister- Teenage Years
Tumblr media
13 Years Old
After Grace passed away YN watched her older brother struggle with juggling the business, Charles and her. She tries to keep out of Tommys way, which isn't to hard because he's always in his office. But one of her best memories is Charles 5th birthday. Tommy had invited all of the Shelby's over and for the first time in so long YN was surrounded by her family.
"Happy birthday Charlie boy" Arthur shouts ruffling the little boys hair. He makes his way over to his youngest sibling who is sat with Finn and Micheal playing cards
"Ha I've won" Finn shouts taking the cards from his sister
"Oi Finn your 17. Don't be a child" Arthur scolds making YN and Micheal laugh. Arthur sits next to YN and takes the cards from Finn "I'll help ya"
Tommy, for the first time in what feels like forever, smiles watching his family all together and for YN this is the happiest she's felt since before her brothers left for war.
14 Years Old
Although YN was getting older she was still a kid at heart, but since Finn turned 18 he no longer had time for his baby sister. He was at the pub with his friends more and more. Arthur had his wife and daughter, Ada had Karl, Tommy was busy with the business and now Micheal had married someone who everyone despised... even Linda didn't like her. Her brothers weren't as close as they once were and she noticed that. Thankfully she had her nephew and niece, Charles and Ruby. Yes the were younger than her, but she played with them and told them stories about when their dad would play with her when she was their age
"Why doesn't dad chase me around?" Ruby asks her aunt
"He never used to be so busy. It was just me Arthur, John, Ada, Finn and your dad living with Aunt Poll. We only had the betting shop to worry about back then" YN looks down at her hands sadly
"Do you miss it?"
"Sometimes. I don't miss it just being us because else I wouldn't be an auntie. But I miss us all living together in that small house in Small Heath. I miss being a kid and having my brothers playing with me. Promise me you two will stay close. Forever"
"We promise" Ruby smiles at her aunt. Little did YN know her big brother was listening.
16 Years Old
At 16 years old YN started getting interested in boys. She had been dating a boy she met at school named James. However she has been keeping this a secret from her family because they are so protective of her.
Things had been going well until she found out that James was courting not only YN but 2 other girls.
Arriving home from school YN tries to avoid Tommy and Lizzie who are sat on the sofa reading
"YN?" she hears Lizzie but runs up the stairs not wanting to face anyone. Shutting her bedroom door she gets into her and let's the tears roll. Her bedroom door swings open and there's Tommy walking in with a cigarette handing out his mouth
"What's happened?" Tommy grunts sitting one the chair beside her bed
"Nothing. It's fine"
"It's not fine because my little sister is lying in her bed crying. So what's happened?" Tommy asks again but this time irritation laced in his voice. Sitting up YN wipes the tears from her eyes then looks up at her brother
"Promise you won't go mad and blind someone"
"Can't promise anything. Spill" YN takes in a deep breath then tells her brother her secret. Instead of her brother leaving in a rage he pulls his youngest sibling into his arms and holds her close telling her everything will be ok.
18 Years Old
After her last attempt to have a boyfriend, Tommy instructed Isaiah to keep an eye on YN. Being 5 years older than his baby sister, who no longer is a baby, Tommy thought that neither would have eyes for one another. However after 6 months of Isiah following YN around they both developed feelings for one another. After a year of courting they decided it was about time they come clean with the Shelby family. A meeting was held at the Garrison where Isaiah would have to face the Shelby brothers, Ada and aunt Poll
"I told you to keep an eye on her not warm her fucking bed" Tommy shouts standing up from his seat
"Tom..." YN's little voice tries to speak
"Your 5 years older than her" Tommy points to Isaiah who looks sheepish "she's 18 for fucks sake"
"5 years isn't that bad Tommy" Ada tries to defend her sister. YN gives her a thankful smile "Freddie and I had a larger age gap"
"Yeah and look how that turned out" Arthur grunts
"Well YN could have done worse. At least she's seeing someone we already know" Finn shrugs his shoulders not really wanting to have this conversation
"Are you happy?" John asks
"Very" YN tells him
"And you" johns attention now moves to Isaiah "you'll look after her. Keep her safe?"
"Of course"
"Then I guess this is fine. But hands stay above hips"
"John" YN whines feeling a little embarrassed
"And no sex" Tommy adds earring an eye roll from Polly, YN and Ada. Tommy walks over to his sister and Isaiah. Giving her a kiss on the forehead before leaning down and threatening Isaiah "don't hurt her or I'll have to blind you"

“Tell your baby that I’m your baby”
Mom never loved me, never gave me the motherly love mothers give to their children, in her case “her child”. She only had me or at least that’s what I thought. Before I was born there were five girls, none were hers but they did have a blood connection since they were her nieces. “Mom” always told me stories of their childhood, not mine ever, my childhood was filled with sorrow and woes, and she doesn’t want to remember any of those because in her story I’m the villain who took away her happiness. She loved them dearly, even now that they’re all older and have gotten on with their lives and don’t care about her, she looks at them lovingly like how one looks at the field of strawberries they have grown, but she hardly looked at me. “Mom” is forever proud of them, even though they never went to college, never learned another language, never learned how to play the piano but I did, I did for her, All I wanted was to see the bright and shiny smile she flashes whenever she sees her “Girls”. I still look at her, waiting like a good dog, and wag my tail for her to notice me, I put my paw in her hand if she asks for it and return with a dismembered one. That’s how “Mom”’s love was towards me, I gave her my bane of existence but left like a soldier from the Trojan War.
Now that I’m older, now that I see her love is different from other mothers and the love she gives others I ask myself “What did you do? What did you do to make you so unlovable that not even your mother loves you” but I swear, I swear on her life because there’s nothing more important than hers in mine I didn’t do anything wrong, what could a child possibly do to make her mother hate her. I even went running back to her after she sent me to school in first grade with bloody lips and a bruised face because that’s my mother, right? She loves me. But who beats down their innocent child like it’s just limp meat all because they didn’t like their kid’s handwriting? I remember being young and full of life - unlike now - watching all the girls playing with their mothers but all I got was getting yelled out for demanding attention.
Sometimes I think that “Mom” was out of love, I mean let’s be real here, she had five girls to love dearly of course at some point in her life she would run out of love to give but oh, how wrong I was because girls came and go, new nieces and such but no, that was not the end of it, she went out of her way to give her love to my friends, newest additions to her “Girls”.
Years have passed and I’m still not her baby. “Mom” still takes away the food from my plate and gives it to her “Girls” while I watch, starving but will do anything to make her smile. “Mom” still belittles me and hugs her “Girls” because they deserve love and I don’t. “Mom” still calls me names for being disobedient but praises her “Girls”. “Mom” never loved me and never will.
A little side note: It’s my first time writing something like this in English, I used to be a great writer back in middle school and high school, won a few local awards but ever since I started college I have been a stranger with my pen. Hopefully my writing is not that awful because it has been one of passions for years now and I’m so happy to picking it up again. I wish to improve it but for now this is all I can offer.
Also my deep apologies if you relate to this. This was inspired by “I bet on losing dogs” by Mitski. There’s this trend going on, on tik tok that made me want to share my story but I promise that I have more fun and happy stories to tell so please stay tuned lol. (btw im new to tumblr dunno if u can tell)

“That was the year, my twenty-sixth, when I was discovering that not all of the promises would be kept, that some things are in fact irrevocable and that it had counted after all, every evasion and every procrastination, every mistake, every word, all of it.”

BIOGRAPHY
In the ‘90s, Maggie Montgomery was the “it” girl at Providence Park High. As pretty as any of the girls on TV and surprisingly kind for a cheerleader, she had the whole world ahead of her. When she started running around with Donnie Roberts and his crowd of burnouts, her parents assumed it was a phase, just teenage rebellion. Still, her Mama prayed extra long every night and didn’t bother to hide her disdain for the boy.
It turns out, she was right to be worried. Maggie’s parents took the news that she was pregnant better than expected– only minimal screaming and crying and pleading with God to bring back their perfect baby girl. The decision to interrupt Maggie’s senior year and send her to live with her older sister in Oregon came a few days later. Maggie knew better than to argue– they’d been gracious enough not to disown her, like they had Maude a few years prior. They were gracious.
Wren and Walden Montgomery were born April 23, 1997 and knew nothing but abundant love from their mother and aunt. Maude had never wanted kids, but she was taken by her niece and nephew immediately. Their life was as perfect as it could be, Maggie and Maude teaching the twins everything they knew– piano, guitar, cooking, camping, sewing, art and poetry. They hardly even noticed that their father wasn’t around. After all, what could they need him for?
Everything changed when the twins were eleven. Wren woke up sick one day and stayed that way. After a week of home remedies with no improvement, the flu was ruled out. Wren’s fatigue was written off as childhood depression, chalked up to not having her dad around. The diagnosis stuck through a series of seemingly unrelated health events– dislocating her shoulder twice in eighth grade, dislocating a rib freshman year, continuing dizzy spells and days of fatigue so thick she couldn’t get out of bed.
When she was sixteen, Wren had a seizure during an all-school assembly. Walden (who was, by then, going solely by his middle name– Cole) told her later that it was on dress code, and that she’d saved them all a slut-shamey lecture about short skirts. She had a broken arm and two dislocated ribs from the fall, and it was a few days later that Wren got a diagnosis that changed her life forever. It’s called Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder; Symptoms include joint hypermobility and instability, chronic pain and fatigue, fainting spells and seizures.
The diagnosis felt like a curse for a long time, a confirmation that Wren was not only different, but doomed to a lifetime of managing pain. On top of a primary care physician, Wren needed an orthopedist and a neurologist to manage the symptoms. It was defeating, even the way they talked about it– no hope of a cure, only hope that they could make her days more comfortable. The bills stacked up and even with Maude’s help, Maggie couldn’t keep up. The four of them moved back to Providence Peak then, when the twins were sixteen.
Living with the grandparents was wildly different. Both Maggie and Maude were different then, more polished versions of themselves– and it was a lot. Grandma doted over Wren, taking her to every appointment and hovering even on the good days. Grandpa was convinced it was something he could pray away, and Cole… Cole sort of thrived everywhere, in his sardonic, smartest-guy-in-class kind of way. But the extra support was nice, and not having to stretch to make ends meet definitely made everybody a little easier to be around.
Physically, Wren didn’t change much– she still spent spurts in bed unable to move and dislocated ribs and passed out in class, but it got easier to live with. She had Cole around to help, and after a few months, she had Lee, too. He was the polar opposite of anybody Wren would’ve seen herself spending time with– where she was quietly funny and booksmart, he was the popular golden boy. Where she was still learning to live in her body, he was in full control of his, a star athlete.
Lee became Wren’s first love. He was equally excited to take her to concerts and to hole up and watch ‘80s movies for days on end. He quite literally caught Wren when she fell and her family loved him. Thanks to Lee’s encouragement and Cole’s tutoring, Wren graduated on time, despite all of the class she missed. And, thanks to Lee, the family was comfortable letting Wren move out of the house to attend CU Boulder. They trusted that, if the three of them were together, the boys would take care of Wren.
She wasn’t fully independent, even in college, but it was nice to expand her support system. Her potluck roommates turned out to be lifelong friends, friends who were there when Wren bought her first cane at nineteen and friends who took her on a weeklong trip to Oregon when she and Lee broke up sophomore year. It turned out Lee was just as stifled by the small town as Wren was. He was gay, and on top of that he was in love with Cole. After the shock wore off, it didn’t even really feel like a loss. Lee was still around all the time, still Wren’s best friend, only now she didn’t have to wonder if she was a bad kisser.
Wren declared a Psychology major at the end of sophomore year, and got an on-campus job in the writing center. It began to wear on her then– the uneven sidewalks and the always-broken-down elevator in the Psych wing and the strict attendance policy that didn’t take into account chronic pain. When a petition was passed around campus about adding a shuttle service for mobility-challenged students, Wren tracked down the source and got involved with the Disability Advocacy Student Coalition. DASC was a safe haven for her, and a godsend when she had to petition her professors for test make-ups or explain discrimination to her manager.
DASC opened her eyes to the beauty of her different body; She learned about Judith Heumann and James Lebrecht and met so many people experiencing the world in ways like she was. She learned to call herself disabled, and how to weave from another student with chronic pain. The small, repetitive movements did wonders to assuage pain in her fingers, and after a couple months of practice, Wren started making pieces good enough to sell.
College was so formative, in fact, that Wren decided she wanted to go to graduate school in Community Development. Wren and another girl from DASC both got accepted to a program in Chicago. It was a big move, and further away from her family than Wren had ever been, but she was determined to make it work. The first semester was harder than she thought, but Wren pushed, sure she would make it through the year. When she had a seizure on the way home from class a week before final exams, Mom insisted she come home. Wren was so rattled and exhausted that she did.
She’s taken smaller steps towards independence then, moving into an apartment with a roommate and now a studio by herself. If she had to live in Providence Peak, at least she had her own space. It wasn’t so bad, really– she missed school and her friends, but Wren was pretty good at seeing the silver lining. She finally had the time to make her fiber art again, and she’s amassed a decent enough following on Instagram and Etsy that it supplements the income she gets from Frontier. Wren isn’t sure that she’ll ever finish her Master’s, but she isn’t really sure about a lot at the moment.

April 24 2023 Boulder (continued)
Tumblr media
Continuing Hobie's birthday retrospective with this photo of him with Bill, Katie, and Jack at Easter a few years ago. Some people may not realize that the reason we have Katie in our lives is that her older brother, Sam, attended Oakley for high school with Hobie. They were good friends and after they both graduated became even better friends because the Gambrells lived in Niwot at that time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam introduced Hobie to his sister, Katie, and we will be eternally grateful to Sam for that. Sadly, we lost Sam in October 2013 when he took his life after losing hope that he could be delivered from the depression which was so deep and so pervasive. Sam was helped by many people attempting to counsel him and give him the support he needed and we'll never truly understand how much he suffered, but we are relieved that he has found peace. Sam was truly ADORED by many and will forever be missed by those whose lives he touched in such a profound way. He was one of the kindest, gentlest Souls I have ever known and I'm grateful to have had him in my life if even for such a short time.
Tumblr media
A very big moment in Hobie's life was when he met his birth family for the first time. After we adopted Hobie when he was born we met his grandparents and his mother and we had hoped to have an open adoption and include them in our family, but his birth mother, Kori, wasn't comfortable with that so it never happened. She died when he was a teenager and we were all devastated that the opportunity to know her was lost to us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This photo is of Kori on her wedding day two years before she died of cancer at age 31. She was such a beautiful person and Hobie looks a lot like her. I maintained a limited relationship with her and her mother, Laura, through writing, pictures, and phone calls since his birth so when Hobie returned to Boulder after graduating from high school in 2011 we began the process of Hobie getting to know his grandparents and his aunt. Since then they have created a very deep love and regard for one another and Laura, Jerry, and Taryn have become an integral part of our family.
Tumblr media
Sadly, Laura's sister, Kori's aunt, died a few years after we first met her and we don't have contact with anyone else in the extended family but we are grateful to have Laura, Jerry, and Taryn in our lives now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hobie has been fortunate to be a surrogate uncle to many of his cousin's children and he REALLY likes Marshall, our niece Heather's son, see next to Hobie, wearing a tie, at Hobie's wedding.
Tumblr media
The child who really seemed to be the catalyst for his paternal instincts being nudged was when his cousin, Aimey's son, Indigo, was born.
Tumblr media
Because Aimey and her husband, Philip, live in Colorado we have a lot more contact with them than with our family in other parts of the country. Watching Indigo grow up has been a joy for all of us and we hope that he and Maple will have a close relationship as cousins the way Hobie had with his cousins.
Tumblr media
The "babies" closest to Hobie's heart, after Maple, of course, are his and Katie's pups, Gilly, seen in the photo above, and Archer.
Tumblr media
Archer, the black dog, in the photo above, was their first dog. He is ten years old now and has some health problems so we hope he'll keep going for awhile. He is sweet and loving. The other dog in the photo isn't Gilly, it's their dog, Lana, who looks a lot like Gilly. She died six years ago and it was traumatic for them to lose her. Adopting Gilly helped them and Archer to heal from Lana's loss.
Tumblr media
Hobie has had two careers in his life. The first one started when he began working as an electronics tech and assembler at Electrom Instruments in Longmont. He worked there for six years and learned a LOT about computers and other electronic instruments, which was extremely helpful to him when he decided he really wanted to be an auto mechanic and began a year and a half program at Lincoln College of Automotive Engineering.
Tumblr media
The class began with thirty students and only five graduated. It was a very tough curriculum. Hobie graduated and actually had a job with a Ford dealership before he graduated.
Tumblr media
These are some of the tools of Hobie's trade. He is SO organized, at least at work! He has worked for a few dealerships now, getting experience with different kinds of companies and working with lots of different kinds of vehicles. His focus now is on becoming a master mechanic and he is apprenticing at the Ford dealership in Dacono where he currently works with a really nice young guy who is a master mechanic and works mostly on diesels, which is Hobie's area of interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hobie has owned MANY vehicles, including cars, trucks, Jeeps, motorcycles, and a BIG diesel truck, which have given him lots of experience on his own. At one time his driveway looked like a used vehicle lot until the city of Longmont told him he had to get rid of some of them, so he sold a few. We are SO proud of our son that he found his passion for a career that pays well and will pay even better in the future when he becomes a master mechanic. He is doing something important because he's helping people stay on the road to go to school, work, shopping, you name it, all the things we use our transportation to do, in safe, well-maintained vehicles.
Tumblr media
And then, the most wonderful thing to happen in Hobie's life, after meeting Katie, was the birth of little Maple. She has been from the very moment he first saw her the "apple of her Daddy's eye". He adores his daughter and he is a REALLY good dad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we celebrated Hobie's 30th birthday with a takeout dinner at our house. It was the first time we had seen them since we got back a few days ago and it was WONDERFUL to be with them! We had gifts not only for him, but also for Maple from our travels and from friends in Barcelona. Maple particularly liked the wooden train with blocks on it. We also bought Maple a little cart like the one at their house so she could practice walking behind it. She did quite well. It was a lovely afternoon and evening and we were SO happy to be home with our family.

ok so looking back on it, I think you've seen most if not all my headcanons about eret, but...I enjoy repeating them
I think most of my headcanons about Eret's family, I shared in A Reminder of Home, and most of it was about his older sister Yuka (an OC) who is an absolute ray of sunshine. I imagine she likes to tease him because everyone knows him as this badass ex-dragon trapper meanwhile she's like...oh that's my adorable baby brother! It doesn't matter that he's taller than her and has been for years. She will forever see him as the baby (especially because she played a large role in taking care of him after their mother's death).
I'm still working out details about his father and grandmother, but what I have so far is that his dad is very calm and chill - not much of a fighter but extremely proud of his son. His grandmother is a prankster and loves to tease him.
Apart from Astri, Stormfly, and Gobber, I think Eret would be very good friends with Dagur and Bayana - I talked about their friendship dynamic in this post . Eret is basically the glue that holds the friendship together.
I think he also has a great relationship with his nieces and nephews (I'm planning to write about Bayana and Yuka being married, making Eret and Bayana brothers-in-law) especially, Nia, the oldest of Bayana and Yuka's children. She really looks up to him and is always trying to impress him with whatever new combat skills she's learned.
and of course my eretlout headcanons are here
Some things I think Eret struggles with
having nightmares about Drago (especially being branded or the threat of being tortured) -- and when I get around to my THW rewrite in which Drago returns, this may manifest in more intense anxiety
Being an outsider in the Archipelago and sometimes being discriminated against (he, Bayana, and Yuka rely on each other for support when it comes to this - but because Yuka and Bayana live on a different Island with Bayana's tribe and the rest of his family live far away, he often feels isolated)
guilt! so much guilt about hurting dragons
an extremely strained experience with Spitelout, who is convinced that his relationhip with Snotlout should just be a casual thing so Snotlout can settle down with a wife and have kids (on the other hand, Snotlout's mother loves Eret and tries to make things less awkward between them)
Moodboard for when someone makes a post of headcanons with “all” the HTTYD characters but leave out Eret

Giyuu was the first to ask for kids. It was a shock since you’d figure he’d be too nervous and insecure to think he’d be able to be a father. But he loves you too much to not have children with you. He just can’t picture his life without you and both of your guys’ children in his future.
“Y/N...” he approaches you timidly, “I have um something to ask you...” he kept fidgeting with his hands and struggled making eye contact. His cheeks starting to burn. “What is it, Giyuu??” He sat there a bit, his brows knitted together as if he’d trying to figure out how to compile his sentence. “Let’s have children!” He finally bursts out boldly. You were taken back for a second but smiled wide and hugged him, agreeing with all of your heart.
Giyuu didn’t want too many kids. He only wanted about two children. (Maybe three children he’s thinking on it 👀) And that’s what you both had. One boy and one girl. The boy took more of your looks but also had a good mix of Giyuu as well. He ended up taking his eyes and messy hair but had your hair color and overall facial features. The girl was a very good mix between the two of you. The boy was the eldest child.
Giyuu was the type of parent to spoil his children a lot. You often had to stop him because it got hard for him to say no to them a lot of the times. But when it came down to it, he knew when to be strict and stand his ground. Like if one of your children throws a tantrum for not getting the toy they want, Giyuu would have a stern tak with them about how they need to learn the importance of being told “no” and to handle it like a “big boy/girl”
Giyuu would also do whatever it takes to help you with anything around the house or with the kids. He’d also do anything to spend as much time with his children as possible.
Giyuu also secretly loved it when his kids would get nightmares and ask to sleep with the both of you. He really loved sleeping next to his family and would often invite the kids into the futon even if they didn’t have a nightmare that night. They’d always get really excited and join without hesitation. He also LOVES holding their hands. He loves how tiny and soft they are in his large, calloused ones. He also really loved having them ride on his shoulders
When it came down to being the good cop bad cop, you both had an equal share between it. I can see Giyuu being pretty strict but not to the point where it’s suffocating. He’d still take extra precautions to make sure his kids are safe and don’t get into trouble. He also tries to come to complete understandings with his children when they’re in disagreements with him. He’d sit and talk with them and make sure they don’t feel invalidated or hurt. Sometimes though, he’ll have to put his foot down and tell his children to listen to them and not question his thinking. He’ll often try to come back to them later and explain again.

When the news got out to everyone that you both were expecting children, they were all so very excited.
You were a few weeks pregnant and Tanjirou (and the rest of the squad) came by to visit and he was able to smell it off you. You were a little shocked how he was able to notice until he explained how his mom smelled a certain way when pregnant with his siblings. Then it made a bit more sense. Kind of.
Poor little boy teared up because of how happy he was for the both of you. He was so happy to see Giyuu with the love of his life and now starting a family. Inosuke got all those fluffy things around his head. He was very soft and gentle around you and it was really cute. Sometimes he’d just stare at your bloated stomach and it seemed like he was having a psychic conversation with the baby lolol.
Nezuko was very excited to meet the new baby and couldn’t wait nine months! Zenitsu was really happy for the both of you and it really warmed his heart to hear the baby’s heartbeat. He also got very scared for you because he heard that giving birth if very painful and he’d never want to go through something like that either.
They all saw your kids as their own little siblings, especially Tanjirou. Tanjirou is very good with kids so they ended up liking Tanjirou a lot and would often beg you to let him visit more often so they could play with him. Nezuko also saw them and her own siblings and would always volunteer to knit/fix their haoris if they ever got damaged. She always brought snacks (usually toasted rice crackers) for the kids when she visited. She also helped with cooking dinner when she visited.
Zenitsu loved playing with them. Until one day your son found a worm and showed it to Zenitsu and he freaked out and thought it was a snake for a second. He started to become more wary of your son from then on.
Inosuke shared his boar mask with them and would let them ride on his back as he ran around. He also visited one day with a nicely wrapped box (wrapped by Tanjirou) and gifted it to your kids. You and Giyuu were very confused to see that it only had acorns in there.
You had Shinobu do regular check ups with you to make sure the pregnancy was going well. Despite her constant teasing, she actually told Giyuu how happy she was for him. This really warmed his heart and he couldn’t thank Shinobu enough for all her help. She helped with both the pregnancies/deliveries
Mitsuri was so so SO excited to meet the new babies!! She seemed more excited than you and Giyuu! She loves babies and thinks they’re really cute. And the fact that it’s going to be yours and Giyuu’s baby??? Geez, that just makes it 10x more adorable!! She really really wanted to be the first friend to hold the baby so you granted her wish. She was crying so much, she was so happy.
The baby’s cheeks became very red from how much Mitsuri pinched them. She nicknamed him her “Little Mochi” because of his squishy cheeks. (and she nicknamed your girl her “Little Sakura”)
Obanai kept trying to deny how happy and excited he was. “Hmph! I don’t do babies. Not at all.” But then he saw its cute, little chubby cheeks and couldn’t resist. He then vowed to be the greatest uncle to your baby boy (and girl once she visited the world)
Kyojuro was really excited to meet the baby too. His booming voice scared the baby and made him cry so Kyo learned to be more quiet around him. He was so nervous holding the baby but then got more use to it and didn’t want to hand him back. He wanted to hold on to the little boy forever!!
Muichiro was mostly dazed out but waved his finger in front of him and your little baby boy held onto him. Muichiro got very happy. “Y/N, Y/N! Look! He’s- he’s holding on to me!!” You’ve never seen him smile so wide. He’d often visit and be like, “Can I play with him today? I’ve missed him.” And he’d play with him for hours! He was the same with your little girl as well once she came around.
Sanemi kept trying to act all tough. “No! I don’t care about kids! Least of all babies! I couldn’t care less about Tomioka’s stupid ba-“ his eyes widened when he saw the baby. Then you saw the most softest smile on his face for the first time. He hugged the baby tight to him and didn’t let go or move for a while. He might or might not have teared up. But you swore with him that you saw nothing 👀 He’d make plenty of ohagi for the kids and make some extra for you and Giyuu. Giyuu was very happy to see Sanemi opening up a bit more and glad he became better friends with him as well.
“Tch, don’t get too comfortable, Tomioka. I’m only here for my niece, nephew and Y/N.” He was teasing he loved Giyuu too.
Tengen and his wives were all over the baby! His wives loved the baby so so so much!! They even planned out a baby shower for you when they heard the news so a lot of your baby stuff came from them! Once he finally joined the world, all of them teared up from joy. They all took turns holding the baby, playing with him, bouncing him on their laps. Tengen said that if you or Giyuu ever needed help, him and his wives were right there anytime.
The wives loved playing with your daughter! They’d often do her hair and make it really pretty. They’d also often spoil her with new pretty kimonos and hairpins and always said, “Once she gets older, we’ll always have girls nights out! Do all kind of girl talks and girl things! It’ll be so much fun!!”
Tengen got the baby a whole bunch of shiny jewelry and was like, “Ha! Now your baby boy shall be flamboyant! Even more flamboyant than he was before!!” He also secretly found it extremely adorable how he looked like a little baby Giyuu at first. Then he grew to have more of your facial features and it just made it even cuter for Tengen. He had a little soft spot for your daughter because he thought having a daughter would be very precious so he’d literally do anything for her (and would protect her with his life)
Gyomei was SO happy!!! He of course teared up too and was very very gentle with him. It was kind of cute seeing such a large man hold such a tiny little human. It’s like he could fit them each in one palm. He was one of your go to nanny’s and he’d always wear a pink apron when looking over the kids. He’d spoil them with lots of baked sweets. Everytime he visited, he always had a new beaded necklace to gift them. They ended getting too many and he stopped at one point. But he still gave them one on their birthdays
Shinobu found babies/kids a bit icky since they do have many bodily fluids they can’t control and sometimes don’t wash their hands but she still did normal check ups with them and was very good with them. She’d often visit with some new toys for the kids. She even got your daughter and little butterfly clip. Your son felt left out so she got him one too. For a while both your kids refered to her as the “Butterfly Lollipop Lady” since she gave them lollipops after every doctor visit. She’d just smile chillingly at Giyuu and say, “Tomioka-San, I figured you’d at least teach them my name after all I’ve done for you and your wife.” She was just teasing, she secretly loved her nickname
Shinobu also really loved listening to the baby’s heartbeat through a stethoscope. She also loved putting her hand on your belly and often talked to the baby. She’ll never admit to anyone else but she really enjoyed doing these things with both your pregnancies

Meet the Diaz Family p2
———
Previous
———
This… new life, essentially, had become so dear, possibly way to fast.
But how could it not? No visions, no pressure from his mother, no hate or distrust and fear from the villagers? A niece that loves him? How could Bruno ever dislike it.
With Mirabel quickly gaining traction as a seamstress and Bruno’s own plays gathering attention, they decided they couldn’t stay at the inn forever.
It had taken them a couple months but eventually Mirabel and Bruno had saved up enough that they could afford an actual place to live. So they went looking and found a small, affordable, little house.
Bruno won’t lie, going from living in Casita to a normal place is a huge change- but one he couldn’t be happier to have made. The house was small sure, but it was perfect.
“And most importantly, Tío! It’s ours!” His niece had told him when they moved in. And now, looking at the walls filled with trinkets and covers for his plays or the photos and fabric messes that had yet to be cleaned from his nieces most recent creative spike. It was. It was their home, his home.
He hummed happily as he worked on his next play. The little old ladies that originally were the only ones who saw them asked about a new ratnovela.
Sure nowadays he has actual actors as he got hired by the theatre but during the monthly meeting with them he always runs by new ideas. And besides, the rats love to do them.
Not only that but they let him coo about his niece as they all do the same with their children and, in some cases, grandchildren.
Honestly, he loved it. And Sophie’s apple pie is a bonus.
So it’s not surprising that when he went to the meeting and they were talking about how a person was going around looking for someone named Madrigal, he nearly choked.
Bruno excused himself from the group far earlier, saying he wanted to get his niece something for working so hard. They all nodded and as he left he tried to ignore the knowing look in Widowed Delores, who he knew was older than even his own mother.
He had to tell Mirabel and warn her.
—-
Louisa couldn’t handle it. Everything was so different and everyone was staring at her. When she helped a man up and fixed his cart they all looked at her different and she couldn’t understand why.
But she had a job to do. She was gonna find her little sister.
“Please, her name’s Mirabel Madrigal, have you seen her?” She had asked and asked and asked with no luck.
Her hermanita had disappeared and no one knew where she went. They hadn’t even noticed for days! That was when Louisa realized that her family might not be as great as everyone in Encanto had said.
For it to have driven not one but two of their own out, they couldn’t be great- hardly even good in her opinion.
-
Louisa had been traveling for a while now when she stumbled into a village that boasted about their theatre and seamsters. She helped out an inn owner and he said she could stay for a night free. She had thanked him.
She went up and delicately moved around before sitting on the bed to eat some of the food her mother packed her.
Soon after she fell asleep.
-
When morning came, Louisa ate and immediately set out to work- after she thanked the owner again.
“Again, I would not have been able to get my cart back without a horse. Thank you.” And those words made her feel fuzzy.
None of the villagers in Encanto has thanked her as sincerely in years. She wants to cry.
She doesn’t.
But she does ask around.
It’s near midday when she spots a boutique. Maybe it’s the fact that Mirabel loved- loves- sewing, but she walked in.
Her heart stops.
“Hello! Welcome to Cloth Dreams how may I- LOUISA?”
“Mirabel.” She breathed out. Louisa’s done it. She found her baby sis-
“MIRABEL THEY’RE LOOKING FOR US!” Louisa turns to the voice instinctively- and oh. She’s found Uncle Bruno too.

“You told me Saturday would be the last time you’d cancel!” Nola exclaims as Johnny is pulling on his jacket.
“I can’t just say no to my Captain, Lia,” he sighs in exasperation.
“But it’s okay to say no to me repeatedly?”
“You know I don’t have a choice. I’m hoping this will be the last meeting and then I can tell you–”
“Why can’t you tell me now? Are you going to keep things like this hidden from me when I’m your wife?”
That catches him off guard and he sighs. He takes her hands in his and stares into her eyes.
“I didn’t want to tell you until it was official and the paperwork had started but…the reason I’ve been leaving for these meetings is because I’m going to be promoted to Lieutenant Commander.”
“What?! Johnny, that’s incredible!” she jumps into his arms squeezing him tight, he chuckles into her hair.
“Thanks, baby. I didn’t want to tell you in case it didn’t happen but all of these meetings have been for paperwork and interviews. But it’s officially happening now.”
“I’m so proud of you,” she says and gives him a hard kiss.
“There’ll be a ceremony and a dinner to follow in a couple of weeks.”
“Am I allowed to come?” she scratches at the buzzed part of his neck.
“Of course, I need to show off my beautiful bride to be,” he smiles and gives her another kiss. “And afterwards, you’re allowed to come as many times as you want when I’m buried deep inside you.”
Nola shivered at his words, his hand squeezed her ass as they kissed feverishly. Johnny was the one to pull away first because he couldn’t be late to this meeting.
“Wait up for me if you’re home before I am,” he tells her and kisses her cheek one last time.
***
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you hung out with Jake alone, twice!” Layla nearly shouts when they meet for brunch on Monday. Nola had an inservice day that ended earlier than planned so she called Layla up.
“It all happened so fast!”
“So tell me everything! What does he look like? Do you hate his guts? Has he tried anything?”
“Slow down!” Nola laughs and the waiter brings over their mimosas. “He looks the same, but older you know? Still handsome as a devil. I do not hate his guts and no he hasn’t tried anything.”
“What does Johnny think of him?”
“He hasn’t met him yet…”
“What?! Why not?”
“He’s been going to a lot of meetings when Jake and I have made plans and–”
“He’s fine with you hanging out with your ex lover?”
“Seems to be,” Nola shrugs glazing over the menu. She notices Layla staring at her blankly. “Nothing is going to happen, Layla. Relax.”
“Just be careful, Nola. You and I both know how you get with Jake.”
“It’s been nine years since we were anything.”
“Yes, but you still have that same look in your eye as you did nine years ago. Just be careful, okay?”
“You have nothing to worry about.”
Later that night, Nomi calls Nola.
“I heard from Juniper who heard from her mom who was told by Jake that you two are together again?!”
“What? No, that’s not even remotely accurate, Nomi. We’ve been hanging out, that’s all.”
“How did that happen exactly?”
“He was at my open house a few weeks ago because his niece is in my class. And his niece is Javy Machado’s daughter, remember him? It was totally happenstance and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he and I are around each other again.”
“And there’s nothing going on between you two?”
“No,” Nola stresses. “Why do people keep asking that?”
“Maybe because everyone and their mother thought you two would get married but then he was a dick and broke up with you twice.”
“Hey, language,” Nola scolds.
“I”m twenty years old, No-no and dick isn’t a curse word anyway. What’s it like being around him again?”
“Weird since it’s been so long but also the same since we know each other so well. But nothing is happening, okay?”
“Okay, okay. As long as you’re not upset at seeing him then I’m happy he’s back in your life.”
***
On a Friday afternoon during lunch, she receives a text from Jake asking if she and Johnny would like to join him and his crew for a few drinks at The Hard Deck. Johnny says he’ll be late doing more paperwork but tells her to go and have fun since she’s been having a rough week at school. Nearly all of the kids are sick and miserable so she’s been trying to keep her class light and easy.
Nola heads home to change out of her school outfit and by the time she’s at the bar, the streetlights started to turn on as the night sky darkened. She could hear the music from the sand as she parked her car and took a deep breath before heading inside. It doesn’t take her long to spot Jake because he’s gathered by the dartboard and pool table with the other sea of khaki colored pilots.
As if he could sense her, Jake turns around and makes eye contact.
“Nola James, as I live and breathe,” he greets smiling and she rolls her eyes with a smile as she approaches them. She tries not to notice the eight pairs of eyes watching her every move. “I’m glad you could make it.”
“I’ve had a rough week so I need a little break,” she says.
“I can make that happen,” he flirts and Nola ignores it because that’s how he’s always been. “Let me introduce you to everyone. You already know Javy.”
“Hey Javy,” she smiles and he tips his beer towards her.
“Nola,” he grins.
“Then there’s Phoenix, Rooster, and Bob over there,” Jake slings his arm around her shoulders as he makes introductions.
She ignores the slight flutter in her stomach from his touch. This is the first time they’ve touched since she passed out in her classroom.
“What interesting names, but it’s nice to meet you all.”
“They’re our Call Sign names,” the woman named Phoenix says.
“Call Signs?” she glances up at Jake.
“When we’re flying it’s what they call us over comms. It’s quicker and easier than using our real names.”
“Oh. What’s yours?”
“You don’t have to know–”
“His is Hangman,” Javy laughs and Jake glares at him.
“Why Hangman?”
“Because he always leaves you hangin’ to dry in the sky,” the tall blond named Rooster says but it seems playful.
“He always leaves you behind,” Bob pipes up and Nola notices how quiet he seems.
“Ohh, yeah,” she peers up at him and his jaw ticks. “That fits him perfectly.”
The others laugh and Jake shakes his head and sighs when he looks at Nola. She smiles sweetly at him but her eyes give him a knowing look because they both know how he’s left her behind in the past.
“You know what Penny just put in the back, Nola? A beer pong table,” Javy says breaking up their silent conversation.
“Oh really?” she snaps her head in his direction.
“Yeah. What do ya say? You and Hangman versus me and Rooster,” he challenges.
“What do you say Hangman?” she asks and Jake shakes his head.
“Let’s smoke ‘em, darlin’,” he leads her outside then calls over his shoulder, “Get her a hard lemonade, Phoenix.”
They really are transported to the past when they play beer pong. Javy and Rooster (who’s real name is Bradley) are pretty good components but Jake and Nola are still unstoppable. She has a great time and is laughing a lot because they all tease Jake. Jake and Nola end up winning and they give a loud high five in celebration.
“We didn’t even have your cowboy hat as our good luck charm,” she says.
“Cowboy hat?” Phoenix’s eyebrows raise. “Oh I gotta see Bagman in a cowboy hat, please tell me you have a picture of that.”
“Of course, I do,” Nola pulls out her phone and opens up her phone.
“No, no, no, no, no way,” Jake chants and reaches around Nola for her phone.
She squeals when his hands grab for her phone, then he starts to tickle her sides and she’s gasping for air from laughing.
“It’s in my album labeled ‘Summertime’!” Nola hands off her phone to Phoenix and the guys crowd around her as she swipes to the proper album.
“I’m gonna get you for showing them that, Nola,” Jake threatens against her cheek and she snorts in response.
“Okay, Jake,” she pats his cheek and tilts her head to look at him.
They’re stuck in that trancelike moment again, green eyes captivating her deep blue. He stands up straighter since they were kind of bent over the table, but his hands still held onto her waist. Their faces are close, too close where they can feel the soft breath from each other’s lips.
While they were having a rekindled moment, Phoenix, Rooster, Bob and Javy couldn’t stop swiping through her photo album.
Every picture was of her and Jake, most of them were kissing pictures. Kissing each other’s cheeks or on the lips. In all of them they were wrapped around each other as if they were one embodiment. Phoenix looks at Javy, his mouth is in a straight line and they share a look.
“Shit,” Rooster mutters because he sees those pictures in real time as Jake and Nola are still wrapped around each other. “He still loves her, doesn’t he?”
“He never stopped,” Javy confirms.
“But she’s engaged,” Bob says.
“What?” Phoenix looks up from Nola’s phone just as she and Jake are breaking apart. They smile awkwardly at each other and sure enough, there’s a huge rock on Nola’s left hand.
“Shit,” the four of them say.
***
Nola is thinking of Jake more and more and it’s weighing on her just as much as the ring on her finger. She can’t be thinking of him because she’s engaged to Johnny. And with his promotion coming up so soon she needs to support him.
It’s been a week since she met his friends at the bar and she came to a decision to tell Jake they shouldn’t see each other anymore. Things will get too sticky too fast between them. When she texts him Saturday morning if they could talk–Johnny was doing inspections on the ship all day–he said sure but they were at the beach all day.
When she arrives at the beach, they’re all playing football but it’s not regular football. There’s two balls and each team is playing together and against each other. Nola doesn’t understand football all that well but she knows this isn’t the way to play it. She spots Jake right away and scowls because he’s shirtless and glistening with sweat in the golden sun.
Her eyes follow his back as he bends down to taunt Rooster, the muscles in his shoulder flex and pull and Nola is completely distracted until Phoenix bumps into her with her shoulder.
“Hot out, isn’t it?”
“Y-yeah,” Nola smiles awkwardly and forces herself to avert her gaze from Jake. Phoenix gives her a knowing look but doesn’t comment on the fact that Nola was drooling over her ex. “Are they almost done? I have to talk to Jake.”
“They probably won’t be done for a while.”
“Why aren’t you playing?” Nola asks but notices she’s in a sports bra and shorts.
“I was, but then I got a stitch in my side so I went to get some water from Penny. I’ll sit with you while we wait for them to finish,” she nods her head towards the picnic table in the sand.
They sit in silence as they watch the guys play and joke with each other. They laugh off fumbles and tackles, helping each other up and completely ignore the whistle being blown by a guy named Hondo. All the while, Phoenix is watching Nola who keeps her eyes on Jake.
“Jake says you’re engaged to Lieutenant Fischer?” Phoenix asks and Nola tears her eyes away from the game. She covers her hand over her ring.
“I am, yeah,” she smiles.
“How long have you two been together?”
“Two years. We moved out here about nine months ago because he got relocated, then he was called to go to Europe.”
“You’ve been engaged all that time?”
“Just right before he left for Europe,” Nola clarifies.
“That had to be hard.”
“It was, but he’s home now.”
“Bet it was awkward when they met for the first time, huh?”
Nola stares at her then quickly lowers her eyes to her fingers that are twisting over each other in nerves. Phoenix picks up on it and her heart kind of breaks at the sight.
“They haven’t met yet.”
“Oh. Nola, can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“What happened between you and Jake?”
“That’s a loaded question,” Nola chuckles, then looks in his direction again. He’s tousling Bob’s hair like she’s seen him do to her own brother Lincoln. “Everything and nothing happened.”
“I don’t understand,” Phoenix’s brows furrow in confusion.
“I don’t either to be honest,” Nola sighs. “Jake was my first everything. First love, first time, first rough break up. He’s my–was my person.”
“What happened?”
“He broke my heart. The first time was when he was going back to the academy for the second year and he wouldn’t have time for me as he would like. The second time was when he was going to start his flight training and he didn’t want me to worry about him in case something happened to him,” she scoffs remembering that night perfectly.
“I told him I’ll worry whether we’re together or not. And then he got hurt and was in a hospital in Germany and Javy called me. I sat with him for three days in the hospital until he woke up and at first I thought, ‘this is it. He’ll realize we belong together.’ But then he broke my heart again by saying I shouldn’t have come and I left.”
“I always knew he was an idiot. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up the past–”
“You’re fine,” Nola waves her off. “It’s messy and complicated but he and I know each other so well…it’s…yeah. Complicated.”
“Can I ask you something again?” Phoenix asks after another moment of silence.
“Sure,” Nola smiles.
“If he did change and realize you two should be together…” Phoenix asks slowly, “would you be with him?”
“I know we just met, and I haven’t even admitted this to my best friend but yeah, I would in a heartbeat.”
Nola sighs and looks down at her ring, she feels the weight of it and thinks of Johnny. When she looks up, Jake is jogging over to her waving his hand. She has to tell him they can’t see each other anymore. Johnny hasn’t fully healed the wounds from Jake–she’s not sure she’ll ever fully be healed–but he’s laid a careful bandage over it.
“Hey Nola,” Jake pants once he’s in front of her. He slides his aviators on top of his head and Nola feels trapped yet again.
They weren’t alone to talk until after they all shared a bite to eat. She and Jake were sitting on the back deck sharing a drink.
“So Jake–”
“Wait, before you start can I say something?” He asks and Nola nods. “I’m sorry about the last time I saw you. I kept breaking your heart and I’ve hated myself every day for it.”
“You were the only one who could fix it, remember?”
“It doesn’t matter. I ruined what we had for stupid reasons and I should have told you in Germany that I…” he takes in a deep breath and glances at her diamond ring. “It’s too late now.”
He rises from his chair and leans on the railing of the deck listening to the waves crash and roll along the shore.
“Should have told me what?” she prompts moving next to him.
“It doesn’t matter now,” he shakes his head. “What matters is that you’re happy and you are. You have your dream job and are engaged to be married.”
Nola bites her lip, the words of goodbye hang heavy on her tongue but she can’t get her lips to form the words. He lifts his head looking at her, there’s a static energy vibrating around them. There’s a big gust of wind and it tosses her hair in front of her face. Without thinking, Jake raises his hand to tuck it back behind her ear and neck.
When his fingertips touch her skin, that static energy intensifies. He has to use both hands to keep her hair away from her face which ultimately ends with him cradling her face. Nola tries to keep her breathing even and her eyes away from his but his hands feel so warm on her cheeks. His cologne sweeps over her, mahogany and teakwood envelops and intoxicates her.
Jake inches closer, his thumb stroking over her cheek.
“Jake, I–”
“Shh, just…wait,” he hushes and tilts her face upwards. Her eyes remain downcast, she focused on his pinned wings. “Nola.”
“Hm?”
“Please look at me,” he whispers.
Against her better judgment, she does. She lifts her eyes slowly then jumps at how close his face is to hers. He hushes her again.
“Just want to pretend…for a moment…” he mutters and closes his eyes.
Nola’s heart is beating so loud in her chest. Her cheeks are blazing from his hands and each stroke of his thumb leaves a new scorch. It’s easier to look at him with his eyes closed and she tentatively presses her hand against his cheek. She notices a faint scar by his brow that was never there before and she wonders how it got there.
Was it from his crash in Germany? Was it from a different mission? Or was it an accident unrelated to flying?
She presses the pad of her finger to the white jagged scar, Jake leans into her touch humming softly. When he shifted his head it brought his lips into her palm and she felt that spark again then tried to pull her hand away.
“Don’t,” he stops her hand by placing his on top. He keeps it against his cheek, his eyes still closed. His fingers close around hers and press into her palm and she closes her thumb over the back of his knuckles. It’s like they’re holding hands but not really.
He lifts her hand a little and before she can stop him, he kisses the inside of her palm and his eyes open up staring right at her. He kisses her palm again, then the petal soft inside of her wrist where he can feel her heartbeat pulsating like a hummingbird’s wing.
Something pulls within her, like a magnet but stronger. Jake is unblinking when he drags her hand to the back of his head and her fingers close around tufts of his hair. The movement brings their faces closer and his eyes transform between two and one as she tries to focus.
“My Nola.”
That snaps her out of it, along with a loud cheer from inside the bar. She jerks away from him and Jake reaches for her.
“No! I can’t do this,” she holds her hand up to keep him away then runs off the deck.
“Nola! Nola, wait!”
Nola races home and is happy to see Johnny’s home. He was looking through her wedding book on the couch and her heart lurched again.
“Hi baby,” he greets then notices her demeanor. “What’s wrong?”
She shakes her head crossing the room and tosses the book off to the side so she can straddle him and press her lips to his. Johnny kisses her back immediately, one hand holding onto her back and the other gripping her neck to keep her stable against him. Nola breaks the kiss so she can remove her jacket and shirt.
“Lia, what’s–”
“Shh,” she shushes and tugs his shirt up and off his chest before kissing him again. She grinds her hips into his and he groans. Nola peppers kisses along his jaw and neck.
“Lia, baby, hold on,” his hands grip her hips, forcing her back a little. He cups her cheek softly, his warm brown eyes gentle and concerned. “Are you okay?”
“Yes, I just missed you and want to be with you right now. Please, Johnny. I need you.”
He stares at her for a beat then cups his hands to her ass and thighs so he can stand up. She clings to him tightly, kissing his neck and shoulder as he walks towards their room. He tosses her on their bed, she’s already shimmying out of her leggings and underwear. He’s quick to remove his own sweats and climbs on top of her.
Their mouths connect and she envelops him between her legs, moaning into his mouth when his dick presses against her. They join together in a frenzy, Nola sighs and hums at the sensations he’s giving her. When she opens her eyes they play tricks on her because she’s staring at Jake’s face. She snaps them shut but still pictures him when Johnny kisses her again.
Against her own rational thought, she orgasms quickly because she is picturing Jake and feeling his hands on her face like they were at the bar. His lips warm on her palm and wrist. When Johnny gives her a hard thrust she’s reminded of a time when Jake held her wrists above her head.
“Lia.”
“Nola.”
She bites into Johnny’s shoulder to keep herself from uttering Jake’s name. A vision of him on the beach plays through with his rippling back muscles. Johnny says her name again and she knows he’s close. Her stomach coils when he says her name again.
“Lia, Lia,” he grunts.
“My Nola.”
She heard Jake’s voice too and then Johnny released his orgasm onto her stomach since he didn’t have time to put on a condom. Nola holds Johnny close, his breath hot on her neck as she stares at the ceiling.
What did she just do?

Tumblr media
“So, have you heard from Hyde?” Donna asked y/n over the phone.
“No,” she replied glumly. “It’s been three days. He hasn’t come home and I’ve had to tell my parents that he took a few days to go be with his dad in Milwaukee.”
“What about Eric?”
“He’s still acting weird,” Y/n answered, sighing into the phone. “He barley looks at me and doesn’t even talk to me. And if he does, it’s short and kind of awkward. He can’t even make eye contact with me.”
“Yeah,” Donna said absentmindedly. “He isn’t even talking to me. And I’m his girlfriend!”
“Well, to be fair, you are in California visiting your mom.”
“There’s still the phone!”
“Fair point,” Y/n said and turned onto her back as she laid on her bed. “I still haven’t told my parents. I’m so scared.”
 “Hyde is too.”
“Clearly or else he’d be here.” Y/n sighed and rubbed her tired eyes. She hadn’t gotten enough sleep these last few days, tossing and turning all night.
“Are you okay though?” Donna asked, concern laced in her voice.
“Honestly? No. But I don’t have a choice but to be. I’m going to have a baby and I have to be strong for it. No matter how hard it may be.”
“You are so strong,” Donna said and wished she could y/n a hug. “You’re going to make it through this. This won’t last forever.”
  “God, I hope so.”
“Hey, it’s going to be okay. If you ever need a place to stay, you can stay over at my place.”
“Thank you, Donna. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Yeah, I know,” Donna joked making y/n laugh. “You’re my best friend. That’s what they do.”
 “When do you get back?”
“Tomorrow. You want to come and get me from the airport?”
“I’d love that,” Y/n answered. “We can go grab some food while we’re at it. I’ve been throwing up so much that I feel like I can eat a whole restaurant.”
Donna chuckled. “Pregnancy will do that to you.”
Y/n smiled. “You have no idea.”
“Alright, well, I’m going to go. My mom wants to take me to the beach and out to eat before I leave.”
“Okay, well you have fun.”
“I will. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
 “See you tomorrow.”
Y/n  hung up the phone and stared at the ceiling for a while. Tears threatened to spill down the side of her face, but she forced them down. Hyde was coming back, she knew him. She knew his heart. He wouldn’t abandon them like the man he thought was his father did. He loved her. Right?
“ Y/n, honey?” Kitty called from down the hall, snapping Y/n out of her thoughts. “ Y/n, dinner is ready!”
“Ok, I’ll be down in a minute, Mom,” she replied and sat up from her bed. She took a quick glance in the mirror, checking out her baby bump. She sighed in relief when she saw she wasn’t showing yet. “Soon, though,” she whispered to herself as she walked out her room.
She walked in the kitchen to be greeted by everyone, except for Steven.
“So, have either of you heard from Steven?” Kitty asked the twins as she set down the chicken.
“Who cares? He’s out of the house,” Laurie commented.
“Laurie, hush,” Kitty said sternly.
“No, I have not heard from him,” Y/n said sourly. “What about you Eric?”
“Yeah, he called,” Eric said, not looking up from his plate. “He said he’ll be back tomorrow night.”
“Oh, good!” Kitty smiled and sat down with her family.
“Yeah, great,” Laurie deadpanned, earning an elbow to the ribs from Y/n.
“Why don’t you like him?” she asked.
“Because he mooches off of mom and daddy,” she replied.
“Wh—” Y/n started, confused. “So do you!”
“No, I don’t,” she argued. “All I’m saying is that Mom and Dad work really hard around here and nothing here is cheap.”
“Except you,” Eric quipped, earning a laugh from his twin.
Laurie rolled her eyes, feeling agitated. “Believe me, I’m not cheap.”
“Fine, free. Whatever,” the twins said together and then looked at each other before laughing. If Y/n were being honest, she was happy that they were laughing together at something. Even though that something was their older sister. Even if Y/n wasn’t pregnant she still gets a kick out of it.
“Okay, that’s enough you three,” Red said, unamused.
Y/n and Eric were still giggling as they turned back to their plates. As Y/n looked down at the plate in front of her, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls, she couldn’t help but scrunch up her nose. Her heightened senses made everything smell so gross now and it was driving her crazy.
“What’s the matter?” Kitty asked, noticing her daughter’s distain towards the food. “Is something wrong with my chicken?”
Y/n’s eyes snapped up to meet her mother’s. “No, no! Not at all, just…uh…not sure if I’m feeling chicken tonight.”
“But you love chicken,” Kitty said, almost sad.
Y/n saw her mom’s sad eyes and panicked. “No, no it’s good! See.” She shoved a leg into her mouth and felt the juices drip down her chin
She wanted to gag, but forced herself not to. Not now, kid.
Y/n hummed in satisfaction as she swallowed the chicken, earning a smile from her mother. “So good.”
“Huh,” Laurie said, pouting in thought. “Why does that look and sound familiar?”
“Maybe because it’s usually you—” Eric started before Kitty cut him off, screaming.
“Eric, if you want to live to see your grand-children, you better not finish that sentence,” she warned. Eric looked over to Red who was giving him a hard stare.
Eric quickly looked down at his plate and was quiet for the rest of the evening.
                                                  --Time Skip—
Y/n found her head in the toilet that night, emptying the contents of her stomach of the evening’s meal into the toilet. She was trying hard to be discreet, but that showed to be a failure when Eric knocked on the door.
“ Y/n? Are you okay?”
“What do you want—” Her head immediately went back into the toilet.
Eric let himself in and saw his sister in her weakened and vulnerable state. He gathered her hair in his hands and rubbed her back. “Are you okay? What’s going on?”
“Mom’s chicken didn’t agree with me,” she whined, wiping the drool from her mouth with a piece of toilet paper. “Or the baby didn’t agree with the chicken.”
“God, I’m sorry,” Eric sympathized. “Look, we need to talk, but first, maybe you should brush your teeth.”
“I feel like we’ve been having a lot of talks lately,” Y/n tried to joke, but only came off as a whimper and she could feel her stomach churning again. She turned her face into the toilet once again and let out a long, painful, retched noise. “This kid is going to kill me,” she groaned.
Eric waited until Y/n was finished vomiting before helping her up and taking her to her room. “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
“Well to stop vomiting would be nice, but what I really need is to know where Hyde is,” she said, staring at her brother. “When were you going to tell me that he called? Why didn’t he want to talk to me?”
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” he said and sat at her desk chair. “This isn’t easy for any of us, you know this.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry that you have to carry the burden of mine and Hyde’s baby,” Y/n said, rolling his eyes.
Eric sighed frustratingly. “ Y/n, focus will you?”
She shut her mouth and looked at Eric nervously.
“He’s coming back,” he started. “He just needed a few days to think. He even got a hold of his dad in Milwaukee and spoke to him, but he’s not sure how he’s supposed to handle this. I didn’t want to tell you because I knew you would be upset. He wanted to talk to you, but he said he needs to talk to you face to face.”
Tears started to burn her eyes. “I don’t know what I’m going to do, Eric,” she croaked. “I’ve been alone in this since he left. The only person who was there for me was Donna and Jackie. And Donna has been gone in California for a few days while Jackie has been…well, being Jackie. The father of my child disappeared and my own brother wouldn’t even speak to me. Do you have any idea how crushing it is to be alone in this?”
“See, that’s the thing, you’re not alone!” Eric said. “Regardless of how I or Mom and Dad feel, you’re still going to have help raising this baby. Whether I like it or not, I’m going to be the uncle to my best friend’s and twin sister’s baby. Trust me, this isn’t what I thought would happen at all, but it did. And I came to realize that there is no point in being mad at you when it’s already done. I want to be here for you and Hyde. This is going to be my niece or nephew and…I don’t know, it’s kind of growing on me.”
Tears continued to flow down Y/n’s face. “Thank you, Eric. That means so much.”
Confused, Eric reached out to her and pulled her in. “I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong?”
“No,” she sniffed and hiccupped. “Just pregnancy hormones.”
“And we’re all going to have to deal with this for eight more months. Yayyy,” Eric mused.
Y/n laughed and sat up. She stared down at her lap for a minute while Eric studied her. Something was on her mind and he knew it. “Talk to me.”
She looked back up and wiped at her eyes. “Is Hyde going to leave me to raise this baby by myself?”
“What? No, of course not,” Eric said gently. “Look, he loves you. He’s told me so. I don’t see him leaving. He knows if he does anymore screw ups, I’m going to kick his ass.”
“Your leg would break midair before it could,” Y/n joked earning a laugh from Eric.
“Yeah, probably,” he joked.
“I feel like I’ve asked this more than I should, but…are we good?”
Eric nodded, giving her a half smile. “Yeah, we’re good.”
Y/n smiled at her twin. “So, uh, how do you think Dad is going to take it?”
“Well,” he said, thinking. “I’ve come to two possibilities. One, he kills you and Hyde. Or two, he’ll get so mad, his head will explode.”
Y/n laughed once again, the weight on her shoulders lifting a little.
                                                  --Time Skip—
The next night, Y/n and the gang sat in the basement with Hyde still missing.
After Y/n had picked up Donna, they had picked up burgers for everyone.
“Thanks for dinner, Y/n,” Kelso said.
“No problem,” she answered with a mouthful of fries. “I’ve been craving burgers and thought I could get everyone some, so you all don’t feel left out.”
“Well, you should get pregnant more often,” Kelso laughed into his burger.
Y/n gave him a ‘are you dumb’ look. “I think I’m going to pass on that.”
“So, Eric,” Kelso continued, licking his fingers. “Now that we’re past the awkward stage about Y/n’s pregnancy, all I gotta say is BURN!”
The group laughed, but Eric’s face remained stoic. “Hilarious.”
“C’mon, Eric, you’re going to be an uncle,” Jackie chimed in. “Aren’t you excited?”
“Well, kind of actually,” he answered honestly.
“Wait, really?” Y/n asked in surprised, mouth full of food.
“Yeah, but I’m not excited what’s going to happen when Dad finds out.”
“Yeah, we’re going to hear on the news that the Forman’s house blew up,” Fez joked.
“Make sure we’re all in our basements, duck and cover,” Donna said, laughing with the group.
“You guys are hilarious,” Y/n deadpanned and took a sip of her milkshake.
“I’d like to think we are,” Fez said.
Y/n chuckled as she took a bite of her burger. “It’s all fun and games until a father with anger issues explodes.”
“I’m going to have to disappear for a few days, or weeks…or years,” Eric said, staring in the distance. “You know what, I’ll just start packing for Mexico now.”
“Shut up, Eric. Dad’s not going to blame you.”
“Oh really?” Eric asked, setting aside his finished food. “When you failed your geometry test sophomore year, he asked me why I didn’t help you study. When I told I didn’t pass the test either, he asked why I didn’t help you cheat.” He shook his head.
“Well, I don’t think a geometry test is equivalent to a baby,” Y/n responded. “And besides, I don’t think you wanted to be there to stop me from getting pregnant.”
“Yeah, thanks for that.” Eric scrunched his face in disgust while everyone agreed how gross and creepy that would be.
“Anyway,” Donna said, clearing her throat. “Have you thought about what you want to have?”
“Not really,” Y/n replied and finished off her burger. “I’ll love them whether they’re a boy or a girl.”
“Do you think you’ll have twins since you’re one?” Jackie asked.
“Nah,” she replied. “It’s like, less than one percent chance of having twins. I highly doubt it.”
“Well, if you have a girl, you should name her Jackie,” Jackie said. “If it’s a boy, Jack.”
“You hate it when I call you Jack,” Y/n pointed out.
“Yeah, but if it’s a baby named after me, I can deal with it,” she said and flipped her hair.
Y/n rolled her eyes. “I’m not naming my baby after you.”
“Why not?!”
“Because I don’t need that hanging over my head!” Y/n responded and took the last bite of her burger. We’re going to name the baby something completely different.”
“Like what?” Fez asked.
“I don’t know,” Y/n shrugged. “I’m only four weeks.”
“When’s your doctor’s appointment?” Eric asked.
“In two weeks,” Y/n answered. “They’re going to see if they can detect a heartbeat.”
“Yeah, they have this really cool machine now where they can use the ultrasound to see and hear the baby’s heartbeat. It’s pretty cool,” Donna said. “Kelso, did they use that with Brooke’s pregnancy?”
“Yeah, it was really cool,” Kelso responded and threw away his trash. “It’s really beautiful to see your baby like that.”
“Didn’t they give you a picture?” Y/n asked.
“Yes. Brooke still has it on her fridge.”
“How exciting!” Jackie said.
“Yeah,” Y/n trailed off.
“What?” Fez asked.
“Well, seeing my baby, it’s going to make it real,” she whispered.
“Well, it already is,” Donna said. “But it’s going to be okay.”
She was rubbing a comforting hand on Y/n’s shoulder when the door swung open. Y/n turned to see Hyde standing there with the same clothes he wore three days prior. She wanted to run into his arms and kiss him, but she also wanted to punch him in the face.
“Hey,” he greeted her, rather awkwardly.
“Hey,” she replied gravely.
“Where the hell have you been?” Donna asked him.
“I was just driving around. Went up to Milwaukee to see my dad.”
“Where did you sleep?” Fez asked.
“Either in my car or a motel.”
Y/n nodded and looked down at her hands. Her stomach knotting up and tears burning the back of her eyes.
“Look, Y/n, we need to talk—”
“You left me,” she snapped. “You promised you wouldn’t, but you did.”
“I didn’t leave you,” he argued. “I just needed some time to think.”
Y/n stood to face him. “You were gone for three days! You didn’t even call to speak to me. You spoke to Eric instead!”
“I know, but please listen to me—can you hang on a second?” He turned his attention to the group. “Would you guys get out of here?”
The group turned and walked away, but only a few feet and huddled in the corner by the stairs so they could listen. Y/n rolled her eyes and turned back to Steven.
“ Y/n, please believe me when I say I really wanted to talk to you, but I needed to see you first.”
“Okay,” she said and crossed her arms. “Go ahead. Talk.”
Hyde exhaled and scratched the back of his head. “I…I panicked, okay? This was the last thing I was expecting.”
“And I was?!” Y/n asked, voice rising. “See, here’s the difference between you and me: if I ran like you did, I wouldn’t be able to run away from my problems. Because wherever I go, it goes. I can’t outrun this problem, Steven. Even if I wanted to. But you did and when I needed you the most, you weren’t here!”
“I know. I know I messed up, but that’s why I’m here. I l—” he looked at the group who awkwardly (and not subtly) looked away in other directions, making it look like they weren’t listening. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? It’s a lot to take in. We’re barley out of high school and I get hit with, ‘You’re going to be a father.’ God, I can’t believe this is happening. How is this happening?” He turned away from her, hands rubbing his eyes.
“Well, it is,” Y/n said. “I’m just as scared as you, but I didn’t run away.”
“I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to be gone as long as I was. I just needed to think of what I was going to do. I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said. “I didn’t have a dad growing up. The only one I knew was Bud and he ran out on me. I’m not sure I even know how to be one. What if I end up being just like him? I can’t do that to you.”
“Okay, guys, I think we should go,” Donna whispered once she realized where this conversation was heading. “We’ll talk to them later.”
“But I wanna listen,” Kelso whined, but hissed when Jackie pinched his nipple. “Damn, Jackie!”
“Let’s go, Michael,” she said sternly.
The group retreated upstairs, leaving Y/n and Hyde alone in the basement. Hyde sunk down onto the coffee table and put his head in his hands. Y/n sat down next him and rubbed a comforting hand on his back.
“Well, you’re not going to be like Bud.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because you left out someone who did become a father to you: Red. He stuck around and continued to help you even when you pissed him off. He’ll never say it, but he loves you. And if anything, you’ll be like him.”
“He’s not going to when he finds out what I did to you.”
Y/n made a face at him. “You knocked me up, you didn’t kill me.”
“What are we going to do?” he asked. “I don’t know,” she responded. “I don’t know about you, but I’m terrified.”
“You have no idea. My job doesn’t pay me enough to support you and a kid. I don’t even think I get benefits. Aw, crap…should we just get married?”
Y/n made a face at him. “’Aw, crap. Should we just get married?’ Is that how you fix things?”
“How else do you suggest we fix this?” he asked.
“Well, by not getting engaged!” Y/n pointed out and stood up. “You really think us getting married because we’re having a baby is the right answer?”
“Well, what do you suggest?”
“I don’t know, Steven, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to marry me.”
Y/n started pacing the floor while Hyde stared at the wall, desperate to find an answer.
“By the way, I didn’t kiss her,” he piped up after a moment of silence. “She kissed me.”
“I know,” Y/n stopped pacing. “Everyone told me.”
“Good,” he said and sighed. “I was afraid you would think I’d do that to you.”
“You’re a lot of things, Steven, but a cheater isn’t one of them.”
“I hope those are good things,” he chuckled halfheartedly, trying to lighten the mood.
She smiled gently at him. “Most of them are. You’re still a huge pain in the ass though.”
Hyde lifted the corner of his mouth in amusement. “Maybe, I can get a job with W.B.,” he suggested. “He might’ve…already offered me a job.”
“Hey, that’s great!” Y/n said excitedly and sat down next to him.
“I think I might take it.”
“You should,” she encouraged him. “I applied to the state college here, but I think I’m going to apply to the community college and get a part time job.”
“No, let me worry about the bills,” he said. “I’m the man, that’s what I’m supposed to do.”
She squinted at him. “This isn’t twenty years ago. I can work and help with the bills.”
“It’s okay, really.” He turned and grabbed her hands. “Let me work and take care of the bills while you go to school.”
“Okay, well, we’re going to have to figure out where to live. I’m pretty sure my parents don’t want a baby living in the house.”
“Yeah, we’ll start apartment hunting,” he grunted and stood up.
Y/n watched him pace back and forth; he sighed and rubbed his face. He stopped pacing and looked lost in thought. “Maybe it is with you,” he said suddenly and gently.
“What?”
“Just now when you asked if us getting married was the right answer because we’re having a baby, I’m saying maybe it is. I mean,” he continued. “This is not exactly ideal, but we did talk about settling down before. Maybe, you know, this time is…now?”
Y/n blinked. “Are you…actually asking me to marry you right now?”
“Well…” he drew out, suddenly acting shy. “I guess I am.” He scratched his head.
She shook her head. “Steven, I told you I don’t want you to feel like you have to marry me.”
“See, that’s the thing I don’t,” he answered quickly. “I actually want to.”
She raised her eyebrows. “You do?”
“Yes. I know how I used to feel about marriage, but that was when I thought all women were the same or…like my mom.” Y/n chuckled lightly along with Hyde and he continued. “But, you’ve changed all that. You forced me to see a different picture painted in a whole new light and honestly…it’s refreshing.”
“I feel the same way,” she said, giving him a shy smile.
“I just, uh…I wanted to do this right. You know?”
“Well,” she said quietly, her heart thumping wildly. “You still can.”
“I don’t even have a ring. Not yet at least.”
“It’s okay,” Y/n whispered.
Hyde smiled so sweetly at her before nervously grabbing her hand and getting down on one knee. “I know that nothing about our situation has been easy. We’ve only been together for a short while, but I’ve known you my whole life. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before and for the first time I actually mean it when I say I love a girl and not just saying it to sleep with her.”
Y/n squeezed his hand a little tighter as he continued. “And as much as I used to hate commitment then, you’ve changed me. You make me a better man. If you’ll have me, I promise to stay and do my best to make you happy because you make me happiest that I have ever been.”
Tears pricked the corner of Y/n’s eyes as she smiled widely. She couldn’t believe this was happening because she never thought it would. She remembers when he used to be so against marriage, but here he was voluntarily on one knee, asking her to marry him.
“So, Y/f/n y/m/n Forman, will you marry me?”
Y/n nodded while tears started to run down her face. “Yes,” she whispered.
Hyde smiled brightly at her as she stood up and swiftly brought her face to his. He held onto her tight as he kissed her hard. They relished the feeling of each other’s lips and the emotion they both felt. Hyde found himself surprised that he wasn’t freaking out and Y/n found herself excited.
Their kiss was broken short though as the group came crashing down the stairs.
 “ENGAGED?!” They all shouted.
“Were you guys listening this whole time?!” Hyde asked them.
“Duh,” Jackie responded which earned her an elbow to the ribs from Donna. “Ow, Donna! What the hell was that for?”
“Are you guys serious?” Eric asked, ignoring the girls and walked down towards the couple. “Are you really engaged?”
“Are you mad?” Y/n asked.
Eric shook his head. “No, I’m done being mad. I’ve been doing that a lot lately,” he said and chuckled. “If anything I’m just…shocked. Especially with how fast all this has been moving. I never thought in a million years this would happen.” He rubbed his lips with his fingertips, as if lost in thought and sighed. “But, uh, congratulations, guys.”
He brought Hyde in for a hug, patting his back and then brought Y/n in for a tight hug. If anything he was feeling conflicted. Was he mad at them? No, not at all. Was he happy? Yes, of course. But, what he was feeling most of all was…sadness?
Maybe because the group was changing drastically now. Kelso was becoming a police officer and just became a father himself, Donna was working at the radio station and setting goals for herself with feminism, Fez had a steady job working at the DMV, Jackie was…well, he didn’t know what the hell Jackie was doing, and now Hyde and Y/n were not only having a baby, but they were now getting married and he was now going to be working with W.B at an awesome record company. And what was Eric doing? Besides lazing around the house doing absolutely nothing while watching his friends and sister were working to do something amazing with their lives. His year of not doing anything was almost up and while he enjoyed sleeping in and doing nothing all day long, he was starting to see the down side of it all. And it was hitting him hard.
“Are you okay?” Y/n asked him, seeing his face change.
“Yeah,” he lied and plastered on a fake smile. “I’m just thinking of what you’re going to say to Mom and Dad.”
“Yeah, don’t remind me.”
“Oh, Y/n this is so exciting!” Jackie squealed coming down the stairs and interrupting their conversation. Everyone in the group trailed behind her. “I can’t wait to start wedding planning! But first, we need to get you a ring!” She gasped dramatically. “Oh my God, who’s going to be your maid of honor? If it’s not me I’m going to scream.”
Y/n laughed and placed her hands on Jackie’s arms. “Hey, calm down, Jack. It’s not happening yet. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
“Well, you better tell them soon because it’s going to get harder to hide a baby bump,” Eric said.
“I know. I was actually thinking of telling them tonight,” she said which caused the group to go silent. “What?”
“Should we start planning your funeral now or?” Donna joked.
“Funny,” she deadpanned. “No, I think it will be fine now that Steven and I have a plan.”
Eric nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. “It was nice knowing you. Both of you.” He gave her a hug which Y/n shrugged off.
“Alright that’s enough,” she said and stepped back. “They can’t be too mad…can they?”
Again, the group went silent, looking at each other; Trying to decide who is the better liar. But no lie could be good enough to determine what was about to happen with Red and Kitty.
Fez stepped forward wearing the most serious expression Y/n has ever seen. “Before you do, I just wanted to say how much I love you guys and how much I’m going to miss you.” He dramatically wrapped his arms around Hyde and start faux sobbing. The group laughed at Fez as Hyde shoved him off.
                                                    --Time Skip—
Y/n waited in the basement for another couple hours, working the nerve to go up there and tell her parents. The gang had decided to stay and come up with a plan, but nothing seemed good enough to prepare them for the upcoming explosion known as Red.
“Okay, so here’s the plan,” Y/n said, exhausted. “I tell them, Steven you have the El Camino ready when things go south, Eric have the Vista Cruiser ready in case Dad tries to kill you, and everybody, whatever you do: act dumb. You didn’t know I was pregnant and just run like hell.”
Everybody nodded in compliance as Y/n laid back against the couch. “I should probably go up there now,” she said, her stomach twisting into knots, her head swimming.
“Do you need me to go with you?” Hyde offered.
“No, no, you stay here. If I don’t make it back in,” she responded dramatically. “Please, move on without me. I love you.”
Hyde grabbed her hand. “Hey, don’t talk like that. We will get out of this alive.”
Y/n gave him a single nod. “Okay, here I go.”
“Wait, Y/n,” Kelso said, abruptly stand up and gave her a hug. “Goodbye.”
Y/n gave a theatrical sniff as if she was crying. “Goodbye, Kelso. I’ll miss you the most.”
“Really?” he asked brightly and turned to Hyde as if to say I knew it.
“No,” she deadpanned and pushed him away from her before walking up the stairs, hearing the chuckles fade away as she entered the kitchen.
She saw Kitty sitting at the kitchen table, hunched over scribbling something on a piece of paper.
“Hey mom,” Y/n’s voice wavered, her knees starting to wobble, but she played it off as if nothing was wrong. To hide her nervousness, she opened the fridge and grabbed a soda can. “What cha doin’?”
“Oh, I’m just going over your medical bill,” Kitty replied and Y/n felt her heart drop to her feet. “I see that they ran some extra tests which explains why we have to pay a bit more. Plus, the ambulance ride didn’t help any.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll help pay that back,” she replied and looked around. “So, uh, where’s Dad?”
“Oh, he’s out getting dinner.”
“Oh, okay,” she replied and opened her water, taking a hefty sip. Kitty looked up from the paper and noticed Y/n acting different. In fact, Y/n’s eyes were glossy and she looked like she was about to vomit again at any second.
“ Y/n, honey? What’s wrong?” Kitty asked, concerned.
Y/n’s chin wobbled as she gripped the can tighter. Do it. Do it now! She stared at her mother who had completely abandoned her task and now was staring at her daughter.
Y/n couldn’t find the words. She stood there, like an idiot, or as her father would say, like a dopehead. Her eyes were wide and she could feel cold perspiration beginning to cover her palms.
It’s now or never.
“Mommy,” she said in a small voice. “I need to tell you something.”

He remembered it, plain as day.
The way your smile faded into a deep frown; the way your bright eyes dulled, before filling up with tears; the movement of your lips, despite no words coming out; the cream cake you had left on his desk as you fled the bakery before the tears could fall.
He couldn’t bring himself to eat the pretty cake, slightly squashed from being in your bag, the icing a little lopsided...
He let ollie have it when he told him to cancel they table at the restaurant he was meant to be taking you to that very night. “Shame, that, Boss. She seemed to really like you,” ollie said, leaving the room before he could get a clip round the ear.
“Yeah... yeah it is,” Alfie had mumbled into nothingness, staring at the door rattling in its frame. He brooded for weeks, hardly seeing anyone, snapping at those he did. But it was more than his life’s worth to even think about seeing the Shelby girl as much as he had been. If word of your illicit relationship reached Birmingham, all deals with the brothers would be off- as well as, most likely, his head.
Or cock, he thought shrewdly, sighing as a telegram from Birmingham came through. It had been three months since he last saw hide nor hair of a Shelby, and he could only imagine what Tommy wanted with him now.
***
Life in small heath was, admittedly, not as glamorous as it was in London, and no where near as exciting as the bakery in Camden Town. Still, it was your home, and you adored every inch of it. On your first night back- the train had been delayed- you went to your aunt Pol’s not wanting to deal with Tommy’s bombardment of questions at that hour. Once Polly had lowered the gun she held to your forehead as you came into the house unannounced, she pulled you into a tight hug and fixed you some whiskey, sensing that tea probably wasn’t strong enough.
“I’ll talk to tommy,” she said gently. “Tell him the deals off. He shouldn’t have sent you in the first place, not to London. Not on your own,” she said, before tucking you up in bed. You were glad no one had told her that her niece had been to barter with Solomons all those months ago (she would never have allowed it in the first place). Even if she sensed your heart shattering into a million pieces, she was none the wiser to who caused your heartache. You were fine with that.
***
That was until three months since your return- and not a word said to tommy about the issue with Solomons- you barged into Tommy’s office.
“Cakes and pies for you, boys! Can go running a business on empty bellies- shit. Sorry Tom. No one told me you had a meeting. Wasn’t in the diary,” you said bashfully as John grinned at you.
“Not to worry, YN. Mr Solomons dropped by,” tommy said cooly as John took the cakes off you and put them on the counter with the whiskey. “Polly seems to think that all business deals with Mr Solomons here have been rejected. Deal’s off, she told me,” you gulped under the gaze of your older brothers, biting you lip slightly as Alfie turned slowly to you, the wide brim of his hat casting shadows over your face.
“Why don’t you come and sit down, Miss YN?” He said. You squeezed your eyes shut before opening them. It had been so long since you’d heard him speak.
“Don’t you bloody tell our sister what to do,” Arthur growled from the side of Tommy’s desk.
“Shut up Arthur,” you and tommy said at the same time as Tom directed you to sit down next to Alfie anc across from him. “Now, YN, I sent you to London last year for a very simple purpose. To get Mr Solomons on our side. Now, you come back to small heath eight months later, telling me that there’s no deal. That mr Solomons got cold feet. Now that, YN, is bullshit. Because we all know what a negotiatior you are. Lord knows, it’s a wonder we got anything done while you were little, forever insisting we teach you things you had no need to know,”
You looked to your knees, before looking back up at tommy, decided to fix him with a matching icy stare. You would not be lectured by your brother, not now that you were a woman yourself.
“And then, three months after her return,” he continued. “It comes to light, Solomons, that there was a deal. But you sent my sister away with no real explanation,” he turned to Alfie. “And I’d like to... put that to rights, if you will. Your lot need us, Alfie, as much as we need you. Now. Explain. Why’s my sister sent away despite her very reasonable deal, Hm?”
It was quiet for a moment, and you hoped to any god who was listening that Alfie would bluff his way out with one of his meandering speeches.
“Right, well, you see right,” a promising start... “you send your little sister, who’s a proper little woman, right, down into my bakery, with her pretty eyes and her flirty laughing, yeah? You send your little sister down to Camden Town to seduce me,”
Shut the fuck up, Alfie, you thought.
“And yeah, I admit it worked for a bit, yeah, took her out a few times an’ all,” Tommy’s eyes hardened, and Arthur and John had murderous expressions on their faces. “We was getting along alright, wasn’t we, YN, love?” You nodded, your jaw tense. You would certainly be in trouble with your brothers after this. “But then I sent her away. Told her ‘nah, YN, pet, we can’t keep this up, right? Too fuckin’ dangerous for you down here, yeah. And what would your brothers think, eh? What if you end up pregnant or summin’” I said to her, right, and sent her back up to this shithole to keep her out of trouble,” he leaned back in his chair, as if his explanation had solved everything.
It most certainly had not.
If looks could kill, Alfie Solomons would definitely be six feet under, under the harsh glare of the Shelby brothers. You snapped.
“For fucks sake!” You cried. “So I’m seeing Alfie fucking Solomons! So what?” You demanded. “What’re your going to do about it, eh? Cut him a new smile and have half of London after us, eh? You said it yourself, Tommy, we need Solomons as much as his lot need the Shelby’s!”
Your chest rose and fell with fury, and Alfie couldn’t help the gaze of adoration that he bestowed upon you.
“YN,” Arthur said, his measured voice forced, as if he was trying very hard not to shout. “If this man... this-this bastard has hurt you or threatened you-”
“Oh shut up, Arthur. Not every man is a threat to me,”
“But YN, you’re-”
“I’m what, John, eh? Delicate? Stupid? Too young? Fuck off. How many times have aunt Pol, Ada and I fixed your messes, eh? I think I know what I’m doing!”
You rounded on tommy, who was suspiciously quiet. “Alfie Solomons is a very dangerous man, YN,” he said steadily.
“Oi, Tommy, mate, I am right here. I let Arthur slide, yeah, Cos he’s off his rocker,”
“Shut it, Alfie,” you hissed, and he held his hands up in surrender. “Tom. I’ve grown up around dangerous men. All my life, I’ve had dangerous men around me. Dangerous men walked me to school. Dangerous men helped with my homework. Dangerous men took me for my first proper drink. Dangerous men have and always will be my family,” you spoke with such passion, your eyebrows firmly knitted together as you spoke, jaw set the way it always did when you refused to back down. “I am not a child anymore, boys. I can’t be tucked away nice and quiet in Small Heath all my life. Just be glad that you’re aware of this now and not when I’m four months pregnant with a baby I’ve no intention of getting rid of!” You swiped angrily at the tears that had trickled down your cheeks as you glared tommy down.
Sighing, he stubbed out his cigarette and stood up, straightening his jacket. “That’s that then,” he said, beckoning an unwilling Arthur and John to follow him (both murmuring angrily and confused).
“Oh and Solomons? I expect to see a ring on my sister’s finger by Sunday,” he said, before slamming the door shut.

hey hope you’re having a good day!
prompt: amelias sisters come to visit after scouts born and and find out about scout.
thank you so much i hope you’re having a good day too!!! <333
ALSO shoutout to @afsalta for helping me with this one!!
There was resentment, or maybe it was just pure hatred. Ever since she was old enough to form memories, there was always absolute disgust on her sister’s faces when it came to Amelia, or it could have also been disappointment, maybe even embarrassment. Embarrassed that their little sister wasn’t like them, instead they thought she was a mess; a mess that they convinced themselves she was going to be for as long as they lived. No matter how many years were under her belt for sobriety, she will always be that young girl that had shadows casting over face, pale skin and heavy eyes, sitting on the edge of a sidewalk, across from a bar with her head spinning and a handful of orange pills laying flat in her palm. A girl that stole the prescription pad of her older brother, crashing his white Mustang because she was too fucked up to drive. The same girl that used her own prescription pad to write doses for her and her boyfriend, him overdosing in the process. For as long as she could remember, they will always see her as a drunk or as a junkie who didn’t have her life together and never will.
A shadow, Derek always had a shadow and most would argue that it was her; following in her brothers foot steps but never being able to be successful. There was always competition, more so with her older brother and there was always a weight on her chest, a pressure into being as great as him; as great as her sisters. Success and failure didn’t come together as they believed he was successful and she wasn’t; rather she was a failure. The weight that sat on her shoulders was always pulling her down, making her believe that she’ll never be Amelia Shepherd, never her own person, instead she’ll forever be that girl screaming at her friends during an intervention about how much she wants drugs; needs drugs. Amelia believes that she’s just as great as he is and she can truly say that she’s proud of herself, proud of who she became and how far she’s come. The competition of her not being as successful, as normal as her family, has and always will be weighing her down because in their eyes she will always be the messy little sister who cannot be trusted.
She didn’t talk to her family, didn’t call, didn’t visit, Derek was the only exception and even then, they didn’t communicate as much as she would have hoped. Usually she calls her mom, keeping in touch as much as she could but the resentment and pain she has still lingered, since her own mom left her alone on her wedding day. Her big day, one of the most important days of her life and her mom refused to go despite her own daughter begging for her to attend. It was unbearable pain, a pain that wasn’t worth for her to continue to put herself through so instead she found her true family, her friends back in Los Angeles and her sisters, her children and her nieces and nephew. Amelia was content, her sisters words that used to haunt her no longer lingered in the back of her head because she knew she was better than the Amelia that her family decided to create.
At least that’s what she thought; being content and happy. She realized she was mistaken when a chill was being sent down her spine, a shiver that made goosebumps form on her arms, enough to make the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
“Kathleen?” Amelia breathed, her sister was stood outside the front door, the other sister standing not too far behind. “Nancy?”
“Amelia? Where have you been?” Nancy turned so she was facing Amelia and both girls had disgusted looks on their face, a look that was so familiar to her.
“I live in Seattle, I have since Derek gave me this job,” she started, a confused look on her face and her sisters were giving it back, probably because there was a toddler in her arms and he was propped up on her hip. “What are you doing here?”
“We talked to Meredith,” Kathleen stated. “We’re here to visit her and the kids.” They might as well just stabbed her right in the chest and twisted, because she felt something in her chest, pain; they weren’t there to see her. Amelia shouldn’t be surprised though, she didn’t visit either.
So instead of making it a big deal, not allowing to show that it bothered her, she stepped aside to allow her two sisters into the house. After all, it was Meredith’s house, not hers. The part that Amelia dreaded was that Meredith wasn’t here yet, the kids had just been getting off of school, so in the entire house it was her, Link and their baby; a baby they had no idea she had. “I didn’t know Meredith had another one.” And there was a light in Nancy’s eyes, some kind of love and affection that was beaming through her facial features, a finger being lifted to brush softly across the toddler’s face.
“She didn’t,” Link had come around the corner, thankfully he noticed that they showed up; her cruel sisters that he had met once, not ever wanting to be caught in another situation with them. But here he was, standing behind Amelia, a hand brushing softly across her lower back. “This is Scout. Ours.”
The love and affection that had previously been coming through her eyes was replaced with disappointment, and there was a shudder that came from Kathleen. “You had a secret baby?”
She brushes off their reactions, trying not to let it phase her because that part of her life was over; the part where she let her sisters control how she feels about herself. “This is Scout, he’s a year now,”
“Does Mom know?” Nancy asked, her eyes wide, similar to Link’s although he was shocked for opposite reasons. “How could you keep this from us? We’re family.”
Amelia’s eyes were rolling and she was irritated. “You guys lost the privilege of knowing what goes on in my life when mom chose not to come to my wedding and the last time I tried to visit you, I was humiliated.”
Nancy’s arms were being crossed in front of her chest, her eyebrow raised and she was glancing at Link, a nod in his direction. “You’ve managed not to scare him off. Aren’t we all surprised? After all, he might just be the best one yet.”
This time Link rolled his eyes, his body was tense from behind her and Amelia knew he was forcing himself from speaking up. “Forget it,” Amelia hummed, passing Scout off to Link and she was making her way to the kitchen. This conversation was over because she decided it was.
“So, Scout?” Nancy asked, now suddenly both of them had an interest in meeting her son; their nephew. Amelia doesn’t care though, she didn’t love them the same way she loved Maggie, or Meredith, she never loved them the same way she loved Derek. To her, they were just people she grew up with, people she knew, biology is utter crap and they weren’t her sisters, not to her at least.
Once Meredith arrives, she’ll let her take the matter into her own hands considering they weren’t there for her and they most definitely weren’t there for Scout. They were there for Meredith. “I’ve gotta say, I’m surprised with you, Amy.”
“It’s Amelia.” She corrected Nancy, which resulted in the older sister waving her hand off in dismissal, her attention only drawn to the baby and Link, who was being friendly as always. She wishes she was more like him, was able to put up with this kind of shit. There was a sound of a car engine coming closer before it came to a stop, meaning Meredith and the kids were home. This meant she could wander, go somewhere else in the house to hide because frankly, seeing her sisters was the last thing on her list to do for the day.
So that’s what she did, made her way up the set of stairs while Meredith greeted them, offering them coffee, tea, water, literally anything. They all agreed on coffee, but Kathleen was talking loud enough for Amelia to hear. “Is there no alcohol in this house?”

Ooh okay I have a song fix request for Cale makar!!! You are in love by Taylor Swift
Okay, so this song is perfect for Cale. I wasn’t sure quite how to write this but then I realized it was kind of a perfect short form format for an ongoing concept I’ve talked about with @makethecupbigger. So I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions about the full mental story (because I skimmed and skipped a lot of things) feel free to ask. This ended up being 1,868 words including the song lyrics.
__________
One look, dark room
Meant just for you
Time moved too fast, you play it back
Buttons on a coat, lighthearted joke
No proof, not much, but you saw enough
Meeting Cale had been a surprise, another twist on the roller coaster of your life. From losing your older sister and becoming a mother to your four-month-old niece to picking up everything and moving across the country to Denver, Colorado, it was too much for a 22-year-old to handle.
That was probably why when you met a beautiful blonde woman at a music class for your now six-month-old little one, you spilled out everything in response to her soft eyes and caring question.
That conversation was how you’d ended up spending a Sunday afternoon watching football in the home of Gabe Landeskog, captain of the Colorado Avalanche. You’d been shocked and slightly embarrassed when he answered the door, greeting you and taking the plate of cookies you’d brought along before ushering you and the tiny bundle in your arms into the house with a warm smile. How had you not placed it before? You weren’t sure but you did your best to not freak out, instead greeting Mel and letting her take your jackets before making your way to the living room where Matt Calvert and his wife Courtney were located.
You’d been cuddling little Emerson when Cale had walked through the door just as the game kicked off having been out in the backyard playing with the Calvert’s boys. You’d felt his eyes on you immediately and you ducked your head into Emerson’s tiny body in response. The feeling of his eyes barely left you for the rest of the afternoon as you cheered at the game and when Emerson crawled across the living room floor and pulled her tiny body onto the young defenseman’s lap his soft voice spoke directly to you for the first time assuring you that she was fine. The sight of him brushing his fingers against the fine coating of dark hair on her head made your heart do things it had never done before and as you moved to leave so you could get Emerson to bed you thanked him softly as he held her while you buttoned your coat. You joked that you appreciated him humoring her because she evidently wasn’t used to the avid sports fan side of you just yet and the way he looked at you spoke so many things you didn’t understand, couldn’t understand for so many reasons.
The light reflects the chain on your neck
He says, "Look up"
And your shoulders brush
No proof, one touch, but you felt enough
It had been a few weeks since that afternoon watching football when Mel had invited you and Emerson to join her and Gabe and Linnea and Matt and Courtney and the kids on a weekend hike. Being in a new city with no one to rely on and an infant that needed constant care was hard and you appreciated Mel’s efforts to make sure that you weren’t completely detached from the outside world.
When you’d met them at the national park, you were surprised to see Cale there but you chalked up his presence to some team bonding thing and just tried to focus on the beautiful warm fall day. Of course, the problem with going on a hike with a bunch of pro athletes and their families was that while normally this hike would be no problem, you weren’t used to doing this kind of thing with a 16-pound baby attached to your chest. Emerson’s presence had thrown your weight off balance a couple of times and though you had thankfully been able to steady yourself, you could feel your stamina weakening as the group stopped by a stream to take a short break.
It had been Mel’s suggestion for you to let Cale carry Emerson for a while. Looking over at the now shirtless defenseman he assured you that he was willing if you wanted before coming over as you unstrapped the baby from your own chest to affix her to Cale’s. Struggling with one of the straps Cale murmured for you to look up and after a moment you were helping to shift Emerson to him, your fingers brushing against his solid muscles accidentally. The touch sent sparks through your body, sparks that were foreign to you. Between the sparks and the way Cale holding Emerson like she was weightless looked you knew you were in trouble, you just didn’t know how much.
You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you
You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you
You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out)
You are in love, true love
You are in love
When Cale had finally asked you out, you were hesitant. You had baggage, more baggage than Cale could possibly understand, more baggage than it would ever be fair to dump on him. But he persisted, insisting that he didn’t care that you were a mom, that he thought Emerson was adorable and didn’t care if dates with you also meant dates with her. It was only then that you’d learned of and corrected his misconceptions, that Emerson wasn’t biologically your daughter and therefore none of this was that easy.
Cale was patient though, he didn’t push but he kept coming around. He made it his goal to prove to you that you could let him in and that there was nothing that would scare him away. For months you assumed that if he loved anyone it was Emerson because how could you not love her but eventually Cale started tumbling your walls not brick by brick but crumbling them all at once.
Morning, his place
Burnt toast, Sunday
You keep his shirt, he keeps his word
And for once, you let go
Of your fears and your ghosts
One step, not much, but it said enough
Months of casual dates and tiptoeing around things turned more serious with a simple knock on a door. It had been your sister’s birthday, the first since her passing, and you found yourself drowning in waves of grief, unable to keep yourself afloat. Driving aimlessly for a while had led you to Cale’s place and when you knocked on the door, a sleeping baby in your arms he accepted you into his home without question, pulling you close and holding you tight. You told him everything that night and he didn’t run, didn’t pull away. Instead, he only pulled you closer, dressing you in one of his shirts before cuddling close, letting you cry nearly a year’s worth of bottled-up tears.
When you left the next morning you left some of your baggage abandoned, taking with you instead his shirt and a piece of something bigger and better.
You kiss on sidewalks
You fight and you talk
One night, he wakes
Strange look on his face
Pauses, then says "You're my best friend"
And you knew what it was, he is in love
Bigger and better comes with bumps in the road and on at least one occasion you screamed at him wondering why he was even bothering with someone like you. Yet somehow, you made it through, trying to be there for him the same way he was for you.
When the Avs were eliminated from playoffs you weren’t sure what to do or how Cale would respond so you opted to give him space for the first night. But when he didn’t respond to you the next day you made your way to his place finding him a shell of himself in bed. Crawling in beside him, you and Emerson spent the whole day just taking care of him and loving him and when he woke that night thanking you, you knew that it wasn’t just Emerson he loved, it was you.
You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you
You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you
You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out)
You are in love, true love
Being loved by Cale and loving him in return was everything you didn’t know was possible. It was waking up in his arms. It was snuggling on the couch. It was watching him with Emerson, being a dad you never thought she’d have. It was the way he defended you to his parents, the way he’d asked you to spend the summer with him in Calgary.
It was seeing your little girl surrounded by rose petals in the yard of your summer rental before turning to find him on one knee promising to love you forever.
And so it goes
You two are dancing in a snow globe, 'round and 'round
And he keeps a picture of you in his office downtown
And you understand now
Why they lost their minds and fought the wars
And why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words
You married on a snowy November morning in the woods of the same park where you’d taken your first hike just months after getting engaged. As you stood wrapped in Cale’s arms to ward off the cold, you finally knew that this was it, this is real and true and forever. Later, when you slow danced in the home Cale had purchased for you, the first family photo, one from your wedding just hours earlier, hung on the living room wall, as so many family photos would in the years to come.
'Cause you can hear it in the silence
You can feel it on the way home
You can see it with the lights out
You are in love, true love
You are in love
When you found out you were expecting your first child together you heard it in his shock and awe.
When you drove home beside your Stanley Cup-winning husband you felt it.
And when you slipped into bed after feeding your newborn daughter you could see it as his eyes glimmered with love.
You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you
You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you
You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out)
You are in love, true love
You are in love
You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you
You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you
You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out)
You are in love, true love
You are in love
When you’d met Cale by surprise on a Sunday afternoon, you never knew that it would lead to so many happy years of marriage, six wonderful kids, three Stanley Cups, and so many many joys.
That every day you would hear, feel, and see Cale’s love for you all around. That you would ever know true love.

“y/n?!” yunho called.
“in the living room,” you said, watching as your husband rushed in the room, kneeling in front of you with a concerned look.
“y/n,” he sighed.
“what?” you chuckled, “why do you look so stressed? you look tired, darling.”
“y/n, please,” yunho begged, holding your hands in his, “i don’t know how else to tell you so i have to tell you straight out. jisung died today, d-during the mission.”
“wh-wha-?”
“i’m sorry,” yunho cried, burying his head in your lap.
you looked down, tears lining your vision. not jisung, anyone but jisung.
“i’m sorry, i’m so, so sorry.”
“y/n! heads up!” jisung yelled.
you stuck your head up, while your brother laughed. before you knew it, a ball, straight at your forehead.
you stuck your head up, while your brother laughed. before you knew it, a ball, straight at your forehead.
“han jisung!” you screamed.
“what? i said heads up, i warned you,” he shrugged.
“what?! how was that a warning! you should’ve told me to duck!”
“that is what heads up means,” jisung said.
“well– well— i didn’t hear that so it doesn’t count!”
“you heard it now,” jisung laughed, “heads up!”
you ducked, the ball flying over your head, “stop it!”
“you– you couldn’t have done anything,” you said, looking forward in a daze, “yunho, stop it.”
“i promised you i’d protect him,” yunho shook his head.
“you’re in atz, and he’s in skz. it would’ve been weird. that’s just the way it is,” you said, before pausing and taking a breath, “how did he die?”
“h-he—” yunho stopped, hesitating, “he did something that i’ve never seen anyone do before. it’s the bravest thing i’ve ever seen someone do, y/n.”
“how did he die?” you repeated.
“he was shot many times,” yunho whispered, “he was ditracting some guys who were about to shoot at me, and then they really started to so he just... stood in front. i was rushed out so i didn’t see him but—”
“he’s really dead, you cried.
“come here,” yunho sighed, standing up and opening his arms, letting you fall into them and sob.
sob until your throat was raw and your face was hot and you felt like you couldn’t sob anymore, like there was no tears left to cry. nothing left.
“jeong yunho?!”
“jisung, listen—”
“y/n, you cannot seriously be telling me that you’re dating jeong yunho.”
“yes, i am,” you sighed, “i know, i’m crazy and you’re gonna go and kill him—”
“why? why should i kill him?! is he giving me a reason to kill him?”
“no!” you exclaimed, “jisung, you’re not killing anybody!”
“y/n, you’re dating a member of atz!” jisung shouted, “atz! do you know how dangerous that is?!”
“jisung, you’re in a mafia group as well! that’s even more dangerous!” you whined.
“no, because you’re my sister, i could lie and say that i’ve fallen out of contact with you and then you’re safe. you fall in love with jeong yunho, that’s atz’s biggest weakness and all his enemies will know!”
“you’re atz’s enemy!” you shouted, before sighing, “look, i had to tell you sooner or later and i suppose the day i’m moving in with him isn’t the best but—”
“you’re moving in with him?!”
you smiled awkwardly at your older brother, “want to join us for dinner?”
jisung sighed, “he’s really that important to you?”
“yes,” you laughed, “jisung, he’s probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
“fine, i’ll come over. now fuck off,” jisung rolled his eyes, but smiled as he watched you run off to your childhood bedroom, phone in hand, “i can’t promise to like him, though!”
“mm, of course!”
“you know he liked you in the end,” you chuckled, feeling the sting of tears behind your eyes, “you never thought so, but he really did.”
“he never showed it,” yunho smiled, one hand on yours, his thumb stroking it gently.
you brought the cup of warm tea up to your lips to take a sip and shrugged, “he never did with anyone, really. it was only a few years ago i realised he liked me.”
yunho snorted, “he had a way with words.”
“he has a way with words,” you corrected, shaking your head, “yunho, he can’t be dead, he can’t.”
yunho sighed, bringing you back into his arms, “it’s okay. shh, shh.”
“he can’t even see nabi grow up, yunho! what are we supposed to tell her?! she’s only 2,” you sobbed.
yunho sighed, shrugging, “i don’t know, love, but we’re figure it out together. just like we promised.”
“jisung. sit down,” changbin whispered.
“ji, what are you doing?!” chan scolded.
“i’m making a speech!” jisung exclaimed, glaring at yunho.
your head fell into your hands, “oh no.”
yunho chuckled, “it can’t be that bad.”
you shrugged, downing your champagne before fixing your wedding dress’s big skirt so it fell perfectly around your legs and chair.
“jeong yunho!” jisung shouted.
yunho’s eyes widened, making you laugh.
“you’ve stolen my sister,” jisung announced, “well, married her, whatever. but in that service i saw you promise that you’d stay with her, no matter what happens, is that correct?”
“yes.”
“and that you’d nurse her through illness and stick together when times are rough,” jisung went on, “bare in mind here i am her brother, her honourary dad, honourary granddad, uncle, best friend, whatever you like. i want you to look at me and promise it, sunshine.”
yunho chuckled, standing up and looking down into jisung’s eyes, “i promise.”
jisung smiled, shaking his head, “thank you.”
“are you done?” you asked, glaring at jisung.
“no. y/n wet herself when she was 17. thank you!”
“you made me laugh!” you shouted, “wait!”
but yunho was already in fits of laughter, so was jisung. and you decided that if they were that harmonious together, you wouldn’t disturb, whatever the reason.
“good morning, mummy,” nabi smiled.
you opened your heavy eyelids, seeing yunho laying beside you, nabi lying on his chest with a wide smile.
you giggled, “good morning, butterly. did you sleep well?”
nabi nodded, “look my fairy wings!”
“very pretty, baby,” you smiled.
“nabi, i think mummy should be left—” yunho started, before you shook your head.
“tell me about your princess dolls, nabi. go and get them and tell me everything.”
nabi looked at you excitedly before running back to her bedroom.
“are you okay?” yunho checked, kissing your forehead.
“i have you and her,” you smiled, pulling him in by the back of his head for a kiss, “i’m happy.”
“where is she?! in there?!”
“um, jisung...” chan started.
“yes, i know, it’s atz. my sister is having a baby with a member of atz. you were at the wedding, this happened,” jisung stressed before turning to the members of yunho’s gang, “are they in there?”
hongjoong nodded, “it can’t be long now, they’ve been in there a while.”
as if on cue, the loud, wailing sound of a newborn baby erupted from the cracks in the door.
“that’s them! that’s my nephew! or niece!” jisung exclaimed.
changbin laughed, tapping jisung’s shoulder, “congrats, man.”
“you say that as though jisung’s the one becoming a father,” san laughed.
there was a quick silence ran through the two groups of men before jisung broke it with his loud laugh.
“with how much i plan to spoil them?! i may as well be!”
“you’re a good uncle, all right,” seungmin sighed.
suddenly, all 15 heads snapped to the door as yunho emerged, a big grin on his face.
“jisung, do you want to come and meet your niece?”
“uncle jisung today?” nabi asked, looking up at you innocently from the dinner table.
you almost dropped the plate you were holding as yunho came in protectively.
“nabi, i need to... let’s have a talk, okay?” yunho said, holding your waist and letting you sit down before he did the same, beside you, “do you remember when we had to say bye-bye to granddad? and we said you’d never see him again?”
nabi nodded, still combing her princess doll’s hair.
“well, sometimes, people can disappear wheneved they’re needed. and uncle jisung was needed.”
“where?”
“up there,” yunho said, pointing at the sky.
“he come back?”
“no,” you shook your head, “he’s needed for a very long time up there. he has a very important job.”
“i say bye-bye?” nabi asked, putting down her doll to look at the two of you.
her eyes were an exact copy of her father’s, yet her nose and lips were remnant of the han family. sometimes, she looked a lot like jisung.
“you can look up at the sky and say bye-bye,” you offered, “because he’s up there, and he’s looking down on you.”
yunho sighed, pulling your head towards him to kiss it softly.
“come on, shall we go and say bye-bye?” yunho asked, standing up and offering his hand to nabi.
nabi stood up and took her dad’s hand, before turning back to you.
“mummy too?”
smiling, you nodded and took her other hand, letting her lead the way out to the garden.
“jisung? what are you doing here?”
“atz are on a mission,” he shrugged, walking through your door, two bags of presents in his hands, “y/n, you have a two-month old. i’m not letting you take care of her alone.”
with a smile, you let him through, picking up nabi from her mat in the front room, “nabi, look! it’s uncle jisung!”
“your favourite uncle!” jisung cheered, taking her from your arms and bouncing her around, “me and you forever, hmm, butterfly? i’m gonna be even better than mummy and daddy. gonna let you have all the candy and chocolate you want.”
“no you will not, han jisung.”
but jisung just laughed, “my favourite niece, nabi!”
“bye-bye, jisung,” yunho called, tears in his eyes as he thought of his last mission, “thank you.”
“goodbye uncle jisung!” nabi yelled, “good luck on your job!”
you laughed at your baby, sat in your husband’s arms.
“bye jisung-ah!” you shouted, waving at the sky, “we love you.”
