For every bit of her brother’s wit and intelligence, Lucy is incredibly dangerous and fully capable of violence. They are two halves of the most dangerous weapon in the fucking wasteland. And they BOTH inherited their mother’s incredible mind!

like yeah “loved him more than i will ever love anything” blah blah. she’s clearly saying it in an extremely emotional moment trying to appeal to her friend who also loved someone a lot. (not to mention dawn the sister she sacrificed herself for instead of put a sword through to save the world is RIGHT THERE.)

still past tense! still “loved” as in not love presently.

still ends her own story saying “i love you” —meaning actively right now loves— someone else directly to his face.

i saw a tiktok about how men usually get their first flowers at their funerals and… it made me think…

imagine its race day, lightnings on the track, sallys in the pits, and she just. randomly gets the idea to get him flowers. its sudden, an abrupt urge to just go get them Right Then, so she tells the crew she’ll be right back and slips out of the pit and infield, and finds the nearest flower shop.

lightning likes flowers because she does, he’ll listen to any of her botany rambles any day, even if they dont make much sense - but hes gotten her flowers hundreds of times and shes never returned the favour. she picks the ones with the most meaning, the ones that mean i love you in every way no matter what, the ones that remind her of him. when shes successfully created a bouquet of flowers that is him in any way you can think, she buys a card. and she writes him a love letter. she names every flower she put in the bouquet and what they mean. and she tells him how much she loves and adores him, and how she’ll always love him more than anything. she adds a couple cheesy compliments in there too, seals it up, and makes it back to the track just in time to watch him take the checkered flag; he wins the race.

they meet in victory lane, and she hands him the flowers first (keeping the note safely in her bag until she can give it to him when its quieter) and. just imagine him standing on top of his car, hands thrown in up in the air in celebration, with the flowers clutched in one hand and the bottle of champagne in the other and and. god i love them

she gives him the card later that night when everythings quieted down — docs outside the motorhome drinking a beer with strip, and the crew is working on the car and getting the garage cleaned up — so its just them. with the flowers safely in a cup on the kitchen counter, she pulls it out of her bag, hands it to him, and gently prods for him to read it then.

hes not the emotional type, its been drilled into his head by a couple different people that hes not really supposed to cry, but its a great improvement when he tears up a little bit while reading it. she cant help but smile because god. isnt she lucky?

when he finishes reading it, he wipes his eyes with the back of his hands and ushers for her to come closer and they end up cuddling on the couch (doc finds them about an hour later, curled up together, sound asleep. he throws a blanket over them and leaves them be)

OMG YESSSSS i genuinely think the rampant mischaracterisation of Gabrielle in this fandom goes to show that the fandom at large have, in fact, not read the book, and just wanted some imitation of Louis and Claudia's dynamics with Lestat. Like, the assumption that Gabrielle and Louis would somehow bond over mocking/teasing Lestat is sooo at odds with pretty much everything about her, not to mention show!Louis's traits. Even if they do secretly have similar reactions to some of Lestat's 'histrionics', those two would NEVER share them with each other (or anyone else really) and would probably hate the other for thinking the same thing, hypocritically of course. They'd be sooo guarded about their thoughts around each other but can vaguely feel their mutual love for Lestat, which is the only reason they're semi-cordial with each other.

Louis & Gabrielle: *both staring and also not staring at each other down in complete silence like two cats challenging each other*

Lestat: *mind-linking Daniel* what are they talking about? are they talking about me? *rue royale war flashback*

Yeah, and I don’t think it’s helped by the fact that there’s so much weight put by fans who haven’t read the books on Gabrielle and Louis’ similarities (and mm, let’s just say that I think the desire for them to be similar is motivated by popular fanons too), when they’re not really that similar at all. Yes, they both like to read and are emotionally withholding, but honestly the comparisons really stop there, at least to me, and I think that says much more about the way Lestat’s raised to understand and receive love, than it is about him being drawn to anyone who’s like his mother.

I also just can’t see the show wanting to do the same dynamic three times over? Lestat’s cut out of the holy family via the mind link, and in the books, the same thing does happen with Nicki and Gabrielle, which I do think is important because it’s something Armand weaponises when he’s trying to be with Lestat, but would they do it again with Gabrielle and Louis in the modern timeline? I don’t think they would, at least not in the same way. Especially given the stress the show has placed on Louis’ relationship with and to family, I can see the inverse happening where he suddenly feels pushed out by Gabrielle who has so much history with Lestat and is now the only person alive who ever knew him when he was human.

I also think there’s just too much fun to be had using the mind link between them in the opposite direction. Like imagine being able to do that with your in-law? I can imagine them being totally civil in front of Lestat and snide to and about each other mentally, haha.
