my current favourite internet thing is people going to watch doctor who for the first time after watching good omens and getting to doomsday and thinking watching david tennant get his heart broken after falling in love with a blonde again is the worst thing to happen and emotionally devastating and i sit there like. buddy. pal. it only gets worse. one day you’ll watch that for comfort.

Thinking about my own grandpa and how he'd comfort me with sweets/icecream whenever i had the slightest inconvenience and i just dream of whether he'd still do it to me as a 23 year old, ruffling my hair, letting me cut his birthday cake, scolding my parents when they got mad at me (yes i snitched on my parents), wiping my fat tears with his handkerchief, showing me his drawings of airplane engines as cold air blasted through the ac, letting me eat food from his plate that my mom made me bring him lol.

and like it grandparents are sooo sweet man. they couldve been okay-ish parents to their own kids, but then they get grandkids and they're like a whole different species *sniffle* theyre so precious.

and now my mind goes to that yandere todoroki clan au (i think it was the bullied series) where at the end, reader dies because of rei, and the whole fam loses their sanity. then one day, reader is reincarnated (its her quirk) as dabi's baby and dabi shares the news with his siblings because he needs to restore their sanity too (cause he feels responsible for them too, the "eldest kid" syndrome).

anyways, after you, his daughter had died, enji lost it and killed rei and then just vanished into the mountains to mourn his loss. years later, for whatever reason, he finds out about you. he's standing there, watching toddler you looking at him with curiosity. you stumble towards him, and Enji's on his knees at this point, he's in shock. your scars, your marks from your previous life dont even register to him until later on, all he can focus is you- its you, his baby. his daugher. his child that he swore to protect and failed.

your legs give out when you reach him but your hands reach for him and enji's already lifting you up, bringing you to his chest. his eyes are filled with tears as u look at him and babble, your hands grabbing onto his shirt, touching his face, big doe eyes staring at him.

he hugs you, silent sobs wrecking his body as he gets a whiff of your head. you- you smell just like her- like his daughter.

It really is you.

he doesn't let go of you, even when you eventually fall asleep in his arms, rocking you gently as he stares down at you in awe and disbelief. he doesn't let you go even when dabi tries to take you back, even when dabi insists that he won't keep you two apart, that you need to rest in your bed as he explains everything.

he finally let's you go when you wake up and reach for your dad (dabi), crying when enji doesn't let you leave his arms. but he relents, enji relents when you cry- it hurts him so bad, he's reminded of all the times how you used to cry before, how you used to beg him for help, beg him to save you. his heart breaks to see you like this, in tears.

enji's only partially conscious of what dabi is saying to him, explaining to him that you're now "his" daughter and enji's "granddaughter" and that's how things will be if they need to work. But enji doesn't care whether you're his daughter or not, all he cares about is that he's in your life because he needs to- he will keep you safe. He won't make the same mistakes again. Never.

i can just imagine the siblings and enji all sitting down together to make decisions about your life in extreme detail so that they ensure that no harm befalls you ever again, and if by some extreme badluck you die, they need to make sure that you reincarnate back to them.

they plan your every day, they make sure that at least one of them is with you at all times, and most importantly, they make sure youre safe and happy. when you start going to school, you're taken to school by Shotou because Dabi (who went back to working as a chef) has to go to work early. then at school, your teacher is more than likely Fuyumi (and if she's not your teacher, then she still works at your school). then after school, you're picked up by Enji who takes you out for ice cream (always, he doesnt care if its before u have had lunch. he needs to make up for all the times he couldnt give u ice cream because of rei) and also buy you any toys u want. enji is just enjoying you padding away and pointing at things that catch your eye. at home, natsuo has returned from his shift at the hospital and then starts heating up the food dabi had already made for you, before letting enji put you down for nap time. when you wake up, natsuo takes your vitals and a basic medical check. by dinner, dabi is home and you welcome him by launching yourself at his legs with a thud. he laughs, picks you up and pecks your cheek before taking you into the kitchen with him to make dinner while you tell him all about your day.

So, my DB/Z obsession from 20 years ago reawakening after years of being dormant has some side effects.

As a teen I didn't have the knowledge and experience to recognize trauma, much less explore it (fanfic or otherwise), nor did I have access to fandom spaces in a way that I could connect with other fans to see their takes on characters.

So, in the past, I never actually realized what Vegeta went through and that there's a whole fuckton of trauma between Planet V's destruction, Freezer and his death on Namek.

Yeah, up until ... three weeks ago I never looked at Vegeta as a character with trauma.

And now I do. Now I look at "watched his entire species and planet die as a kid", "was forced to do Freezer's bidding as little more than a slave for 25 years", "learned it was FREEZER who killed his people and planet", "lost all hope at defeating Freezer when he realizes just how outmatched he was" and I fucking bluescreen in horror.

This doesn't make early Vegeta less evil or less of a prick in any way, not at all. What it does is ADD SO MUCH MORE to his character than I was ever aware, and I already loved him more than anything.

I'm okay, this is fine, everything's alright.

And I always wondered why he just stayed on Earth and moved into Capsule Corp. and ... what fucking else should he have done?! There was literally no place in the universe he could go, not a single person waiting for him, nothing, absolutely nothing left of his old life. He was utterly taken apart as a person by Freezer just a few hours ago, then he died, and then he's alive again but for WHAT?

And Bulma saw that. Not that he cared about her at the time, but she looked at him and realized "oh what's that guy going to do? He doesn't look like he has an agenda right now" and decided fuck it, I'll take him in, he needs a shower and a large pizza ASAP.

And I think even if you're Prince Fucking Vegeta, who cares about no one and nothing (who would want him to, even?), being offered a shower and a bed and a large pizza after losing everything will have an effect.

Spn Opinions That’ll Have Me Burned at the Stake Pt. 2: Electric Boogaloo

I’m back and bitchier than ever. For reference, here’s part 1.

• Season 5 wasn’t that great.

• D*stiel isn’t real, it’s a sucky ship, and that confession scene was just the writers pandering to the rabid deancas fans cause they knew they were the only ones still watching the show lol. And they left it ambiguous enough that they could still say it was meant platonically if they needed to.

• I hate how they watered down both angels and demons post-season 5ish.

• I liked Ruby 1.0 better than Ruby 2.0.

• I hate Honey!Cas. They just did that cause they didn’t know where to take his story from there, needed him out of the way, and thought it would be funny. It was insulting.

• Jack should’ve been played by an actual child so everyone’s abuse of him would resonate with the audience for what it was (casual fans are brain dead and need to be spoon fed).

• Victor Henrikson deserved more time on the show.

• I said it in the last post, but Alex is way more interesting than Claire and should’ve been given the lead role in the wayward sisters storyline instead.

• Dean is canonically straight and for Christ sake if you guys wanted bi rep, there’s about a thousand other characters that are strongly coded or implied to be bisexual (including Sam!) but y’all didn’t focus on them because it wasn’t actually about representation, it was about making it more plausible for your dumb fetishised gay ship to actually happen (spoiler: it didn’t).

• Season 3 and Season 6 were some of the best ones, you guys just don’t have any taste.

• Claire is not Castiel’s daughter and saying she is erases Jimmy and insults her, and even Cas himself acknowledged that on the show.

• Castiel is canonically NOT gay and Misha constantly saying he is is annoying and airheaded. He’s been attracted to women IN THE SHOW and he’s not even really male, so calling him a Gay Man is reductive and just plain wrong. Also, it’s veeery sus that- given how bi/pan folks are even more underrepresented than gay people- that one of the rare times where the bi/pan label actually fits a character BETTER in CANON……. the allies and monosexuals adamantly reject it. Hm.

• “Curing” vampires or werewolves or demons shouldn’t have been a thing.

• The Winchesters cause most of the bad shit that happens and then they just force supernatural beings to fix it for them- tell me again how they’re Super Special Heroes.

• It shouldn’t be possible to make angels human by removing their grace, because (unlike demons, werewolves, etc) they were never human to start with. If you drained me of all my blood, I wouldn’t magically transform into another species, I’d fucking die.

• Making Billie go crazy was dumb.

• Rowena was one of the most interesting and charismatic characters on the whole show- they just didn’t know what to do with her character.

• The archangels, Lilith, and Azazel should’ve been the biggest threats on the show. No other knights of hell, no god and his sister, no Cain, nothing like that. Having every villain just get progressively more overpowered made the show unbelievable and repetitive and annoying.

• The kernel sanders king of hell guy was hot.

• Dean is misogynistic as HELL, homophobic, likes racist porn, is a narcissist, pervs on teen girls, & thinks all non-human people should be exterminated… and that is all CANON.

• Most of John Winchester’s abuse is fanon.

• Fans portraying Cas as a smol bby who colours in colouring books and has a bee plushie is so fucking annoying.

• Instead of having so many gigantic cosmic storylines with god and his sister and alternate dimensions and even the angel and demon tablets, they should’ve just scrapped those and made the stein family and the bmol and the alpha vampire storylines way bigger than they were. Less cosmic stuff, more earth-based stuff.

• They ruined Lucifer’s character post-season 5. Before that, he was more sympathetic and reasonable than Michael. After, he was a spoiled child hurting people for fun.

• Everything from season 7 on is garbage. All of it. There’s bits of goodness here and there but overall seasons 7-15 are trash.

• How the fuck are there actual people who are deangirls and hate Sam?? The space where your brain should be is empty, I swear to god.

• If there was gonna be any lgbt rep in the Wayward Sisters group, it should’ve been Jody and Donna instead of Claire and Kaia. Those two were boring as hell and had zero chemistry or build-up, but Jody/Donna had plenty of chemistry and was very believable.

• Meg has the best and most realistic redemption arc of anyone on the show.

• Chuck was not likeable or charismatic enough to carry off as big of a villain arc as they gave him. Also that whole thing was stupid and WAY too Out There.

• All the angels should’ve been aroace. All the demons should’ve been pan.

• I stanned Cole so hard up until he changed his mind about hating Dean. That was disappointing.

• Sam went through the same shitty childhood Dean did (plus Bonus Abuse on top of it) and he didn’t turn out Like That.

• I cannot think of a single person that was asking for a spin-off about the Winchester family, like that has to be the most boring thing.

Adelaide commits suicide to preserve the timeline where she dies before rejoining humanity on Earth.

(Warning for fictional suicide) In “The Empty Child” the (Ninth) Doctor says “Just this once, everybody lives!” and saves the day with no deaths. The Tenth Doctor in “Waters of Mars” repeats this, thinking he can once again save everybody from the base members who are infected by Mars’ waters and prevent a fixed point, which is the Base Commander’s death. He brings the Commander back to earth and believes himself successful since he reads a newspaper that says the Commander saved the base. He then hears a gunshot and finds that the Commander fulfilled the fixed point by committing suicide; Several times in Ten’s run the idea of saving everybody comes up and he is almost never successful. He is very desperate for a win at this point to prove he can defy the rules of time and space.

The Great Game: Outer Gods and Great Old Ones

As the deities that are most physically tied to the Material Plane, it is perhaps unsurprising that the various entities collected together as “Outer Gods” and “Great Old Ones” have been paying attention to the Great Game. The allegiances of some of the prominent members of these pantheons are as follows:

Abhoth The Unclean God is patron of disease and fecundity, and knows how these two things are tied together. More are born than can survive, and many of those that die fall to disease before anything else. As such, Abhoth is well versed in ecology, and knows that Lamashtu is overpopulating Golarion with her monsters. Abhoth’s followers seek to spread plagues among monstrous species in order to keep their numbers down, and as such, Mormo counts Abhoth as an ally.

Azathoth The Primal Chaos does not seem to have noticed the Great Game, or much of anything that has happened on Golarion in centuries. This is probably for the best. If any of his attention were to be turned onto the conflict, it could easily become a disaster for both parties…something that Nyarlathotep is hoping for, and working to make happen.

Bokrug The Water Lizard fondly remembers Mormo from before the evolution of true mammals, and they have hunted and sparred together and even mated in the past. Bokrug may be difficult to rouse from his slumber, but his ire is terrible when provoked, and is likely to be directed at the followers of Lamashtu.

Cthulhu The Dreamer in the Deep has dreamt of Golarion, and one or two of his star-spawn have come there. But he cares not for the Great Game; he has his own stars that need to be right once again. A star-spawn of Cthulhu is a dangerous agent of its own right, and one more likely to support Lamashtu than Mormo.

Hastur The King in Yellow respects Lamashtu and her ravenous appetites. Although he has his own plans to absorb chunks of Golarion, or the whole world if he can, into the Nightmare Kingdom of Carcosa, he is at least nominally on the Mother of Monster’s side. As long as their cultists can keep sharing the same sybaritic festivities.

Ithaqua Ithaqua is more concerned with consuming anyone on either side that he can sink his talons into. The Wind Walker is slightly more favorably minded towards Lamashtu than Mormo, but any relationship between their cults is likely to be a tenuous one that could break down into ravenous hunger at any point.

Mhar Mhar wants off of Golarion. He sees a change in the status quo as the best way of achieving that goal, and is resentful of lamia clerics of Lamashtu for helping Karzoug the Runelord to build a palace on his surface and deface him. Mhar’s release would likely be devastating for Mormo’s goals of making Golarion a richer and more diverse ecosystem. But on the other hand, volcanic ash and lava rock makes for excellent fertilizer, and his eruption might not be as destructive as he hopes it will be.

Nhimbaloth As a devourer of souls and a corrupter of wild things, Nhimbaloth is an ally of Lamashtu. Of course, she does respect Mormo’s goals of eating Lamashtu as a fellow apex predator. But Nhimbaloth thinks that the Goddess of Predators is too arrogant and needs to be taken down a peg. Nhimbaloth would happily eat Mormo herself if given half a chance, and for that reason, Mormo keeps a wide berth of Nhimbaloth’s home world, Voidbracken.

Nyarlathotep The Crawling Chaos is delighted by this galaxy spanning conflict, and on the surface is playing both sides. Lamashtu is his real dog in the fight, as he views Lamashtu as being more likely to lead Golarion to ruin, cracking open and releasing Rovagug. That would be a fun show to watch, seeing how the Rough Beast would react after eons of imprisonment. The Mask of Nyarlathotep that is most actively involved is the Black Pharaoh, whose cults are pushing technological advances into the hands of demon cultists and dangerous maneaters.

Orgesh The Faceless God is technically on Lamashtu’s side, although not by any direct aiding or abetting. Orgesh wants to fight Mormo himself. And is sending his chardra to pick fights with her worshipers, and is gunning for her most powerful servitors himself, in the hopes of getting Mormo’s attention. Worst case scenario, Orgesh will be killed and be able to respawn on another planet. Unless Mormo gets sick of his interference, and starts doing research on a way to kill him for real before setting her sights higher.

Shub-Nugganoth* The Goat of the Woods views Lamashtu as a kindred spirit, and the two of them have indeed collaborated on the spawning of horrors in the past. They are doing so again, notably through the personage of one of the Goat’s most powerful mortal worshipers in Avistan, a fleshwarping-obsessed alchemist named Doctor Agatha Shiny. Doctor Shiny and her creations are actively hunting down Mormo’s allies in order to transform them into blasphemous horrors, or just murder them.

Tsathoggua Saint Toad knows what it’s like to be forgotten and abandoned. He is a supporter of Mormo, if only because she’s the underdog in this fight, and Tsathoggua has a soft spot for underdogs, as much as he would deny that. Mormo knows that the Father of Night is a fickle and somewhat dangerous ally, so doesn’t rely on his help, but does appreciate his guidance and wisdom.

Yig The Father of Serpents calls Mormo “sister”, and the Goddess of Predators calls Yig “brother” in return. This may be an actual genealogical relationship, it may not be. But Yig is among Mormo’s closest allies, and the two are active collaborators. Those colonies of serpentfolk who worship Yig are hotspots for burgeoning cults of Mormo, as they see the two ophidian Old Ones as a way to reclaim some of the lost glory of the Age of Serpents without relying on the increasingly unstable Ydersius.

Yog-Sothoth The Key and the Gate views things on a vast, cosmic scale, even more than the other Outer Gods. As such, the safety and long term stability of the galaxy is his highest priority (after all, it has to collide with another galaxy in approximately 1.2 billion years, and then enough of it has to be around to decay into degenerate matter as the universe shifts past its stelliferous era. So anything that dramatically accelerates that process, or might get large portions of the galaxy pulled out of the Material Plane altogether, are not ideal outcomes for Yog-Sothoth. As such, he supports Mormo, but is doing so in a subtle way—opening portals in the right places, weakening planar boundaries—rather than sending his children to fight en masse.

*This is the name I am going to be using for that particular Outer God in the future. Clearly the same entity that has been developed into a character by Mythos authors over the last 100 years, but doesn't have a racist slur built into the name.

jason died, and he visited his friends. they were happy, of course, that jason was back. they missed him, they loved him, they stayed friends with him. he visited as often as he could, along with irisMessaging.

jason died, and he stayed young. he was a teen forever, invincible in valhalla. he could fight and train– exactly what he'd done when he was alive– and not be worried of the permanence of death.

jason died, and he watched his friends grow. leo, working with his moms to help children in need have a safe place to stay. piper, living with shel, indulging their lives in their creativity. she even adopted tons of cats, jason and leo being their uncles. reyna stayed as young as him, her skills as a hunter steadily increasing. he was so proud of them.

jason died, and he saw his friends do the same. first, piper, then leo. he mourned with shel until she inevitably died, too. even reyna, killed by a foe in battle. he avoided the mortal world, using his grief to power himself in valhalla.

Lyta Alexander, it's good to see you again! Even on the sad occasion of her trying to find out more about Kosh's death.

Seeing Sheridan just out for a walk and end up staring nose to nose with a Vorlon (?) ship was an effective way to set tone and scale. This is John Sheridan. He's measuring himself against gods.

Swedish meatballs exist in every race…to the Narnuan they're breen. Amazing.

G'Kar thinks the best use for their newly recovered and repaired warships is to protect Babylon 5, because it's the linchpin. What a terrifying linchpin to have! A highly puncturable, thin little steel shell, that has to spin just right, and also not get any holes in it.

Is…Stephen Franklin eating sunflower seeds to keep from doing cocaine?? lmao. unsure where he's meeting up with Garibaldi.

not-Kosh is a diiiiiick. dude. Vorlons have telepathy, and are a higher order species. How on earth is choking the most efficient way of getting the information.

This Vorlon has a much more distinguishable neck than Kosh did. And the voice is different. but the neck thing is kinda unsettling…my mental imagine of an encounter suit is less segmented. I wonder if not-Kosh was designed to be unsettling. Not-Kosh also moves differently, seems more like he's walking than Kosh's hovering glide. Kosh's encounter suit seemed like it was puppeted by an amorphous form. not-Kosh looks like a guy in a suit.

I hadn't remembered Lyta being Kosh's aid, but man is she in an unenviable position right now.

Stephen Franklin is finding himself by watching live performances. So I should hope for us all.

LOVE the war council scene and them all outvoting Sheridan. for real giggled about it.

Caillyn and the newly christened Steve are actually quite cute and I hope she doesn't die ingloriously or get disappeared by black ops or something.

Sheridan's plan definitely isn't foolproof, but it is interesting! Also regarding how Delenn mentioned Lyta's psi rating of 5. Which yes. PsiCorps rated her a 5 and trained her. But they also limited her - and all their telepaths. She's been working with Vorlons for the last few years. And didn't she connect with the Psi underground? They've been innovating. She's got to be a Psi 7 at the least.

Garibaldi lecturing G'Kar - who wanted the ship's captain to go on Sheridan's mission - on the captain choosing not to go. And the whole weird bit about them not knowing how to use their resources wisely….the ones they barely have because they're being genocided actively right now and have lost most of everything they have? It falls very flat for me. No one has lost as much or been put through as much as the Narnuan people.

Lyta is weak to the Shadows rather than the other way around until she sees in Sheridan's mind that the Shadows killed Kosh. And that gave her an upgrade that lets her cry blood when she does really high powered offensive telepathy.

The last day I was human was just like any other day.

I hunted with my tribe, played with my friends, and went to bed with everyone else when the sun went down. It was a perfectly normal day, until I was woken up by harsh hands yanking me out of bed and covering my mouth to muffle my shouts.

They forced a part of a pelt into my mouth. The taste was awful, but I couldn't spit it out no matter how hard I tried. When I remember the last day I was human, that awful taste is the first thing I think of.

They stuffed my ears with dirt. It was painful, and I could feel things crawling deeper into my ears.

They blindfolded me with another pelt. It made my nose itch.

They tied my hands and feet together. It hurt.

I was moved somewhere and laid on the ground. I felt my hand be cut, and the wound squeezed painfully for minutes on end. And then no one was touching me, and I had no idea what was happening or if they were even still there. I felt my hand heal unnaturally.

It was terrifying, absolutely terrifying, for the first bit. But then it got boring. I don't know how long I was there, all I know is that I was desperate to be anywhere else, and after a long enough time of wishing, I was.

I don't know how long I would've been left there if I didn't figure out how to teleport. I think they planned on me dying. When I told the other members of our tribe what happened, my captors tried to justify their actions by saying something about humanity and magic and balance, something that I wouldn't fully understand until much later. They were forced out of our tribe, and the next time I saw them I was watching their funerals from my void.

And between us, I'm the inhuman one. I'm the one who doesn't get to die. I'm the one who gets punished.

I really, really hate mages.

You have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. "Yeah."

"So like- if I don't feel human, and I don't get treated like a human… I met this girl while I was homeless. She said she didn't identify with humanity as a concept. She said it was some kind of spiritual thing? Thinking back on it… it's kind of cool. I don't think she thought she was any less of like… a person? I don't know what words to use. But I don't think she hated herself. She didn't feel human, and I don't feel human… but I feel so pathetic and she didn't. So maybe… I don't know. I don't know what I'm trying to say."

You don't either. Your head hurts. "That's alright. It'll come back to you if it's important."

"It's just… I want to be able to see myself as human. So that's the main difference. I don't know… I don't know if I should try to maintain my dignity, or try to accept that I'm not really human anymore."

"Um… what?"

"She's changed me. So much. I'm never- I'm always going to be her Kitty. But I can't just be good like Puppy can, like you used to be able to- I'm not just Kitty, I'm a bad Kitty." A shudder racks their entire body and they groan. "I hate this, I hate this, even if she stopped drugging me I'd still be hers, I'm never going to be mine again!"

This line of conversation is more familiar. "Hey, breathe. You're okay. You're you."

"You don't even know who I am! You've never met me, you've only met Kitty! You only know this thing she's made me into!"

"Breathe, in for four-"

"Shut up! I can't- I can't do this, fuck, I want out!"

You can't think of anything to say. You're the only one who can help because Puppy can't talk and Kitty can only be comforted through words and you can't think of anything to say, stupid Bunny, stupid stupid Bunny-

You think… something's wrong.

Just admitting that to yourself is hard, but what the hell is this bluebeard-ass situation? You can go anywhere except the basement, it's not safe. You're curious, and you can't help thinking something may be wrong here anymore. Maybe Kit is constantly begging you to leave for a reason beyond paranoia. Maybe Jane seemingly having you under constant supervision isn't just meant to keep you safe. Maybe Dollie being so tense all the time, and somehow even more tense when Jane is around, is a red flag.

Well, when you put it like that, it seems obvious. You feel kind of stupid for avoiding thinking about it for so long. You need to go into the basement. What's the worst that could happen? If something is wrong, you'll get Dollie and Kit out of here, and if not, you'll have peace of mind.

You're in Puppy's arms. When did that happen? Your throat hurts. Kitty is gone. Fingers comb through your hair.

You think back to the last thing you can remember. Oh, was that a flashback? Usually you have at least some awareness of what's going on around you during those, but that was… that sucked. Your heart is pounding and your skin is covered in sweat.

Was it just triggered by… feeling stupid and useless? You feel that way all the time. It's weird that it triggered such a bad flashback. And the subject of the flashback was weird too, at least for causing such an intense reaction. That first punishment is far from the worst thing that's ever happened to you.

You think Kitty would have some interesting thoughts on it, if they could think. They like talking about that psychology stuff, even though most of their psychology knowledge comes from Jane. But they can't think, and they're not here.

You turn so that you can see Puppy's face. "Is Kitty in the basement?"

Puppy nods.

"Being punished?"

Puppy shakes her head. It's just the conditioning thing, then. They'll be back up soon. Maybe you will talk to them about it. As long as you're careful to stop if they seem to be getting frustrated, it'll probably be fine, and they'll need the distraction. Ideally, even while drugged they'll have opinions about it, and they'll get to feel smart for the first time in a while.

You should prioritize that, you think. Helping them feel smart might make them freak out less about being a shell of themself who's unable to think. Anything that might make them feel smart also risks making them feel stupid, so it'll be rough, but you'll try. Soon Jane will be dead, anyway.

Right, you need to be thinking about how to kill Jane! Which means you need to be thinking about how she became immortal. The same way you got your powers…

You still have no clue what that means. Is she implying that she's existed from the beginning of the universe? No, she talks about it like she was mortal once…

…Has magic existed since the beginning of the universe? You thought so, because… because Barron said there's magic in everything, and all of its books suggested magic has always existed.

Fuck, you want to talk about this with Barron more than anything. You miss it so much-

No, you can't follow that thought to its conclusion, that's what leaves you unable to leave you bed for days and you can't afford to do that, so you can't think about Barron.

"Puppy? Did Jane ever tell you… has magic always existed?"

There's a flash of something you can't quite interpret in her eyes, but it quickly disappears. She shrugs.

That's not very helpful. Still, you feel close to figuring it out. The only way what Jane's said makes sense is if magic came into existence at some point. Whatever caused that caused both her immortality and your ability to be a mage, if Jane wasn't lying. Which is a big if, but you don't really have a lot else to go on.

That's progress. Now, instead of figuring out why Jane is immortal, you have to figure out what caused all of magic to exist… It'll be a challenge, but at least you have more direction now. Soon, the three of you will be able to feel human again.

One asoiaf take i hate is when people are like “dany’s dark turn could have worked if the show had devoted the right amount of time to it, and written it well”. honestly in my opinion there is absolutely no version of evil dany that i would accept and that wouldn’t be disgusting. like if dany’s story is “little girl is abused by her brother her whole life, sold into marriage as a child, finally frees herself, and with what power she gains she uses to free people from enslavement and constantly puts aside her own needs to help other people, but oh no she randomly turns evil and kills a bunch of innocent people so now she needs to be put down like old yeller, guess her crazy Targaryen genes just took over! Wow, thank you for this. You've put into words what I've been grappling with. I think it has a lot to do with peoples' different worldviews. Jaded readers that favor an Ayn Rand philosphy probably think her fall is inevitable. But those of us who think the only way we'll survive as a species is by helping others and, y'know, believing in things, we just don't think Dark Dany rings true. I acknowledge Dany will continue making mistakes. I don't think there's any harm in a character that conforms to a lot of white savior tropes looking inward to remind herself she's not actually the Messiah. In fact, I think that's necessary for her arc. She's a hero but she's also human.

But I'm just not a nihilist. I think she's going to get through it. She won't be okay, no one in this universe is ever going to be completely okay again. And she may die in the process. I don't know. All I can feel is that however her story ends, she will end as Daenerys, who remembers what it felt like to be afraid.

Walt-> a year or so after I made Wilton, I made Walt(on) - they weren't originally gonna be in the same story so I didn't notice there was only a vowel difference between them🤦🏽 I fixed this by having Walt choose his name to be similar on purpose, unknowingly bonding the two forever afterwards

Iniko -> originally heard it from an amazing artist of the same name! Really liked how it sounded so I looked more into the etymology & started crafting the story from there (working backwards this time around)

🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)

The Jek as a species are as old as fear itself - but Walt is around 80 or 90 years old by the start of the Dead Wood plotline

Iniko is about 15 years older than Bambi

🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)?

Walt -> There've been a few, but Wilton is the only one he would die for. Since emotions are all he can see/smell, he often forgets that others can't tell what he's feeling just by looking

Iniko -> Not yet. They're a bit too preoccupied plotting revenge to think about anything else

All Jek feed on Nightmares, but as an individual, Walt's favorite are ones that involve the dreamer being chased by A Creature™ (Adrenaline is particularly sweet)

Iniko enjoys the taste of paranoia the most - it's not as filling as a full on nightmare, but it's in a much richer supply

Walt -> Fulfills the role of a Boogeyman-esque urban legend to keep potential trespassers away from his family. Not to say he doesn't enjoy it, as the fear he inspires is it's own reward.

Iniko -> political subterfuge/espionage; despite having no interest in whatever politics are going on. Their services can be bought, but not with money; they'll only take the job if you agree to do something for them first (you may live to regret it).

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?

Walt -> Painting! He can't actually see the final product, but part of the fun is hearing Bambi and Wil try and guess what the art depicts

Iniko -> Enjoys studying and growing plants since they're the only living thing they can't mimic very well

Walt -> he's a skilled strategist! Prides himself on staying at least two steps ahead of everyone else; unfortunately doesn't mean he's never wrong

Iniko -> Mimicry! They've perfected their shapeshifting into an art - even being able to seemlessly mimic the voices & cadence of others

Walt -> Loves spending time with his family! Wil and Bambi are his entire world. Holds nothing but righteous rage towards Casters (magic users) - he blames their greed for driving The Jek to (near) extinction

Iniko -> Loves the feeling of 'getting away with it' & gossiping. It's a valuable way to get information, but they easily + inadvertently get too involved with local affairs. Hates everything about the Rader family, especially Bambi.

Walt -> Dutifully watching and waiting for his daughter to grow. It took her a year and a half before she was ready to pluck out of the ground

In this Tex is the younger sister to Allison and is named Beth.

Simmons is her son. How? She had a one night stand with a guy who left a few years after Simmons was born. Then she married a guy so she’d have someone to look after Simmons while she was on active duty.

Realized one day when she was calling that the guy wasn’t treating him right so she beat his xss and divorced him.

Her baby is sickly and scared and now she’s extra protective of him.

She decides one more time, but instead of marrying, she gets a guardian to protect him instead. The guardian is named Shelia and the twin sister to the guardian Fliss.

When Carolina, or Annette, met Simmons the first time she was a small girl and he was a wrinkly baby. He ran a high fever while she was there and got scared he wasn’t going to make it. She couldn’t stand the crying. He was fine.

Carolina doesn’t like Tex because she looks like her mother but doesn’t act like her. Eventually when she dies the first time, the director didn’t want to lose her so he did iffy experiments to save her.

Carolina didn’t know who Tex was under the helmet. She barely remembers after such a long time had passed. She was busy after all.

Simmons wasn’t allowed to see her at that time and only had Shelia. He was lonely and trying to figure himself out.

The first time she sees him again is him running to her from bullies. She was with his uncle and her team. Took her a second before scaring off the bullies and pulling him into a hug and kissing his face, she missed him.

When he noticed Carolina, he pulled away and she didn’t like that. Carolina felt her competitive spirit rise. Tex and her glared daggers.

They didn’t want him acknowledging the director so they ignored everyone else in favor of having lunch together.

“Who were those guys?”

“Nobody important.”

York realized he had to get on his hood side because he’s practically Carolina’s little brother and an important person to her.

I want York to be an alien but maybe I’ll make him human? Anyways, the whole church thing.

Uh… he’s a clone but i want him crushing on Tex so the director isn’t the one who made him, but he did use him.

The councilor is the one who was in charge of making the clones and had church watch over his younger cousin, Doc. Yes it’s coming all together now :3

With Grif, he and Simmons start off soft before getting into arguments. It comes to a head when Grif kisses him for the first time on a date that wasn’t a date because Simmkns didn’t know he was being flirted with.

Why Apostles of Mercy will (likely) have a good ending

(heavy Axiom's End and Truth of the Divine spoilers ahead!!!)

I watched Lindsay Ellis' latest Nebula video about Guy Fieri. It got me thinking about a common theme I've been noticing in her recent videos - sincere storytelling is good and irony destroys our enjoyment of stories.

And my poisoned by Noumena brain rot mind, gave me some ideas of the direction of the story after Truth of the Divine.

Let's explore this!

First one, a 'positive and healthy', boring one - Cora tries to help Nikola and Ampersand, but they are too far gone. They do what their culture dictates and pass on peacefully. Cora is left to enter full adulthood as a formed person, a speaker for the (dead) aliens. Blah, I hate it! It does tie everything in a neat bow and even gives an opening for future instalments (because I don't think we will get planned 5 parts now), but I find it unlikely. It isn't sincire. Lindsay was always vocal against killing off 'damaged' characters as a redemption. She even said so in TotD content waring.

I read TotD a few times now and the ending can be interpreted as Cora and Ampersand finally meeting in the middle but... But sometimes I feel like it's a relapse. It's written from Cora's POV and we can't fully trust her positive emotions. It could see it as a parallel to Kaveh's alcoholism - a toxic relationship is like a drug. Kaveh tried to help Cora overcome her addiction, but he's gone now, and she is back at square one. She used Kaveh for sex at the beginning - one well of affection dried up and she tried to secure another. But he, in his perfection stepped up and showed Cora how a healthy and mature relationship looks like. And I really think this is Kaveh's function in this book - to teach Cora about love. And that why he has to exit the stage, just like a mentor in hero's journey. He is a moral compass in the book. But when he encouraged Cora to explore her relationship with Ampersand, I'm still not sure if he really meant it, or he was aware that he couldn't help an alcoholic by just telling them to stop drinking. It all comes down how Ampersand and Cora's reunion should be interpreted. I think the bad ending would still be very interesting, if very emotionally taxing turn of events. I like to watch a good train crash, but I like those characters. I want them happy. If Cora and Ampersand continue to make each other miserable, it would go against the theme of the series. Nikola would die and Ampersand would die with him, leaving Cora alone with a string of deceased partners. It would mean that communication between species is futile and Superorganism was right all along. Humanity would burn. It would be cynical and Lindsay has been clear that she despises cynical storytelling.

And here is a possible !!gigant spoiler!! for the whole series: in her mastodon post, Lindsay said that humanity is spared by the Superorganism (because they don't have Twitter in this universe lol, check it yourself https://mastodon.social/@lindsayellis/109853608377077218 ). So a first half of the (potentially) good ending is (possibly) guaranteed. It won't happen if Cora, Ampersand and Nik don't cooperate. And they can't effectively cooperate if they are on a brink of unaliving themselves. I'm still not sure what will exactly happen, if I knew I would write it myself but I have high hopes. And watching Lindsay's last videos only cemented that hope. Again and again she hammers down her point about the sincerity, even if the story is clishe or sappy. Those videos were written in tandem with Apostles of Mercy and it would be so jarring if it said something opposite.

Based on all information available, my speculative outline of the Apostles of Mercy would look like that:

1. Cora tries to help Ampersand and Nikola to heal their minds. It's hard.

2. Cora and Nik bond over their feelings for Kaveh and Amps.

3. They encounter a pod of benevolent transients, who give us a different perspective on Superorganism and Amygdaline nature. They have resources to provide Amps and Nik a true therapy. (Lindsay said that we will meet transients.)

4. Amps, Nik and Cora form a phyle.

5. They are able to communicate by high language, fully confirming that humans are persons by Amygdaline standards. (High language has to happen. It's much more interesting that way. Also this would give us an unfiltered Amygdaline perspective)

6. There is a mental show down with Autocrat, something like Ender's Game.

Add some shenanigans with Sol, Luciana, propagandists and some evil Nils' shit.

Are those all possible options? No. Maybe I'm completely wrong and it will be something completely different? I hope so. I hope Lindsay will deliver an incredible, SINCERE book, that will move as all, just like Axiom's End and Truth of the Divine did.

I desperately want to be this series' Bigolas Dickolas, so we will get all 5 😭

Like, imagine wolf dude actually has schizophrenia, bipolar, psychosis, or some other hallucination inducing disorder???

Me and a friend were joking around. I was pretending to be the alpha wolf guy and she was my “kitten.”

…it ended up progressing to necrophilia and cannibalism. I’m actually here for it, though!

—I’m getting into his story. Everything is fairly vague and just a summary of his lore, there’s still murder, gore, running away, delusions, hallucinations, necrophilia, cannibalism, and suicide—

Basically he deemed himself to be a red wolf alpha. He believed it with his whole heart, too. Recently, he found out that the red wolf population was growing after near extinction. He knew his role. He knew (had a delusion) that he was placed with his human parents so his species would be farther from extinction.

Now that red wolves were under protection and were growing… he knew it was him time to go. He ran away from his home, and started making his way to the red wolf reservation in Ohio. (He lives in Organ btw)

He was caught by the police, though. He believed his human girlfriend (“kitten”) was the one who reported him to the police and betrayed him. (He actually has no girlfriend that was another delusion)

When he was safely at home, he almost immediately suck out again. He went to his kitten’s house. (Remember, he has no “kitten.” This is just a poor random woman’s house (her husband was coincidentally away))

What follows next are taken directly from the joke messages between me and my friend:

“‘K-KITTEN??? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?? I THOUGHT WE WERE 4LIFERS!!’

‘WE-‘

‘WE WATCHED SKIBIDI TOILET TOGETHER, SANG THE SONG, DRANK GRIMACE SHAKES TOGETHER, ETC!!’

‘THIS IS NOT FUNNY!!’

*alpha me scratches you and you die*

‘W-WAIT, NO KITTEN!! I DIDNT MEAN TO! WAKE UP!! PLEASE!! NO!!!!! MY OHIO LEVEL THREE GYAT ONE TWO BUCKLE MY SHOE LIGHTSKIN STARE KITTEN!!’

‘NOOOOOOOOOOO!!’

‘IM SO SORRY!!!! WAKE UP, PLEASE!!’

‘… i hurt my kitten, the one i swore to protect no matter the cost. i'm so sorry kitten. daddy loves you.’”

The next message is very long and detailed so I’ll summarize it.

Alpha guy apologizes and kisses kitten “one last time”

Although this was meant to be a goodbye kiss, he can’t seem to stop. He looks at the cut his claws made (stab wound) and then looks at his paws (hands.) It felt so weird. Her blood on him and his fur (small strands of hair) on her body.

They were one… why did he do this? She was his other half, and he just killed her! Maybe… maybe this lust he felt for her dead corpse was his subconscious trying to regain its missing half…

*long story short he fucks the corpse*

He cleaned himself up, wanting to cry but that would be very un-alpha of him. He felt as empty as before. His half still wasn’t with her. Then… he got an idea. A way he could always be with his kitten.

He started slowly eating the corpse. Saying things like “don’t worry, kitten. We’ll be one soon.”

Of course, he threw up barely mid-way through. He tried eating his own vomit back up, then tried to proceed eating, but he just kept throwing up. He also knew that if he waited too long, he would have to take a dump. But at the same time… he was willing to eat his own shit to have his kitten inside him.

He ended up trying that idea, and guess what? He kept throwing up. He was already half-dead from food poisoning, and he finished himself off out of despair.

As he faded away into whatever you think is the aftermath of death, he looked at her face. The thing he was going to eat last. It was a face that wasn’t his kittens.
