Okay not to rage post on main but this is bothering me again
Sometime last year I watched avatar the last airbender and firstly. The show is hugely overhyped … it’s fine, it’s good for a kids show but it’s not the masterwork of fiction people make it out to be
Secondly. The show ends off with a canon relationship between a twelve year old and a fourteen year old. And NOBODY in that fandom acknowledges how weird that is. Like fucking HELLO???? I’ve seen several atla fans say it’s fine but I … I don’t think these people understand how development milestones work? The level of maturity between those ages is so vast there’s no way it isn’t gross asf
They also get married and have kids in the sequel. Which admittedly is much farther into their lives but it still grosses me out. Not to mention to levels of forced are crazy, the writers SHOVED that poor girl into a relationship with a twelve year old boy and sidelined her in all the most important scenes of the show
my entire life I have heard nothing but blind, exaggerated praise for this show… it’s fine, it was high quality for the time but if people are telling you it’s the best show ever written they are fully brainwashed by nostalgia
I’m afraid to tag this I just. I need my mutuals to agree with me that this is strange shit man.., and yes it’s four in the morning for me, I just can’t stop thinking about how strange this is. Not only that it happened on a Nickelodeon show but that nobody in the years since has actually acknowledged how off putting it is, someone tell me I’m not insane for being grossed out by it
#two other pet peeves I have?#the female character in question here. Katara. is also literally one of the most powerful characters in the show next to the main character#she learned an ancient forgotten blood magic and is the only person alive who knows it because the person she learned it from is dead#she annihilates anything that comes at her#and not only did they NOT LET HER DO ANYTHING FOR THE LAST TWO BIG FIGHTS#BUT THEY ALSO GAVE HER BROTHER TWO WHOLE ARCS#ONE OF WHICH WAS ABOUT THEIR D A D#and worse? there’s another female character in the series who. get this#INVENTED A WHOLE NEW POWER THOUGHT TO BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR CENTURIES#and nobody I MEAN NOBODY acknowledges it#they don’t even talk about it until the sequel and she only does it twice.#and hundreds upon thousands of adult humans in this world will tell you this is the best animated show ever made#dude I can think of four that are better off the top of my head#if you give me a minute I can come up with more#alta is fine#it’s okay#it’s comparatively good#but it does not deserve the mountains of praise it gets from people#and it’s fine if you liked it as a kid but please take of the rose lenses…

The plot holes of Eldarya
Hello wonderful people of Eldarya fandom! Along with some other players we have prepared a little something for you: The list of all the plot holes in the first season of Eldarya.
The list has over 2000 words in total. I am so, so proud of us and I would love to give special thanks to @aokane-eldarya who wrote probably over 1/3 of this by herself! Everyone who participated is tagged, so make sure you check out their blogs!
And of course, before we start: this is not an attack on Beemoov - it’s merely a critic of their writers. More under the cut.
@kyriechristeeleison
- Chrome surviving Leiftan's attack. Leiftan isn't an amateur killer and wouldn't let him stay alive.
- Game said Leiftan never kills children and yet the next episode he tries to kill Chrome.
- Chrome saying he contacted Leiftan, event though the other episode informed us he "summoned" him.
@cintanna-rants
- A plot hole between Valkyon's spin-off and the game. In the spin-off, he dreams about his mother even though in the game he couldn't have seen her at that point.
- During the Leiftan & Erika vs Lance fight in the last chapter, Lance acts like he thinks Erika is just a simple human, yet in chapter 26 he fainted precisely because he discovered she was an aengel and thought he knew why Leiftan wanted her.
- Leiftan “sacrifices” to tell Valkyon about Lance’s weakness (a neck injury). None of this is mentioned in the last battle nor ever again. Why did Leiftan sacrifice for then? What was the point of making him betray his pact with Lance and risk his life if that info doesn’t matter?
@aokane-eldarya
- Leiftan threatens Lance to kill him, as well as all the other members of his race, if he hurts Erika: not only does he do nothing when Lance kidnaps Erika (while we have the proof in episode 30 that Leiftan is still able to subdue Lance), but Valkyon is the only other dragon in existence.
- By extension, he didn't react as expected (if we refer to his personality) to the story of the potion.
- Leiftan who is the demon of the crystal: he was able to act normally while having a part of his mind threatening the Oracle, which is absurd (nonrespect of the principle of the cost of use of magic ). During his imprisonment, Miiko talks about the fact that the corruption stopped suddenly and Leif explains that he stopped because Erika suffered from it. If Leiftan had had the power to stop the corruption caused by the Naytili crystal (and therefore, by someone other than him), he would have done it immediately since he knew from the start why she was suffering. In any case, it was not Leiftan who stopped corruption, it was the use of the Fenghuang flute.
- Leiftan tells Erika that he did it all for her. But the fact is that he started acting before Erika arrived on Eldarya and she doesn't think it's strange.
- In the spin-off, Leiftan says he will respect that Erika doesn't follow him, suggesting that he will pursue his goal. In the end, as soon as Erika holds it against him, he decides to abandon his projects and accept his "mistakes". The funny thing is that it's been weeks, even months that we know what Erika thinks, he could have given up before.
- Episode 30, the "Lance VS Erika and Leiftan" confrontation. The writing suggests that Lance doesn't know Erika's race, which is wrong. It will also be noted that Lance didn't think of using the dragon spell that had allowed him to imprison Leiftan the time he came to destroy the crystal.
- In episode 15, the history teacher tells us that the daemons refused to sacrifice themselves.
- Then thanks to Fafnir, we learn that, in reality, Lilith and her supporters were for the sacrifice, Dagon and his supporters were against; they killed each other.
- Episode 30, Erika says that she and Leif must sacrifice themselves because their ancestors refused to sacrifice themselves.
- It will also be noted that hundreds of dragons sacrificed themselves for the Blue Sacrifice, but that it lacked just the equivalent of a daemon / aengel for the vegetables to be nutritious.
- Erika who doesn't remember that Dagon was one of the daemons invoked by Naytili
- Leiftan had a redemption. When he died, there was a white feather. Leiftan should have fought with his angelic aspect and not only with his demonic aspect.
- Depending on the situation, the terms aengel and daemon are used either to denote the same thing or to denote two different things.
- Lance refers to Erika and Leiftan by saying "the aengel and the daemon", even when Erika says to her "I am a daemon".
- Ezarel fights with a foil, a training weapon that cannot hurt. He uses it as thrusting and cutting weapon whereas it is only a thrusting weapon.
- The Guard sends civilians to unprotected villages; Lance just had to go there to use them as leverage.
- Lance, who is experienced, attacks by arriving by sea, a disadvantageous position because exposed, to arrive on a beach in a basin with only one narrow exit, with then the optic of crossing a meadow also exposed. The Guard decided it would be funnier if it got stuck on the beach itself.
- Lance is ready to negotiate: he agrees to allow the Guard to evacuate the faerys on Earth (The same faerys he wants to destroy). The famous faerys which are not there because evacuated in the villages. It will also be noted that suddenly the total population of Eldarya is reduced to only the inhabitants of the Guard.
- Lance donated ingredients for two gates: two gates to evacuate hundreds of people. I thought it was too expensive per person.
- Lance sent Enthraa, a mermaid who can't get out of the water, to kill Erika and Miiko ; Erika and Miiko thought it would be a good idea to be within the range of Enthraa.
- In episode 30, the hamadryads meet around the ancient tree of Yvoni. The same tree that had burned and the remains of which had been removed.
- One day, Leiftan and Lance released a monster who swallowed all the knowledge of the library. We still don't know why.
- Everyone knows that the dragons have sacrificed themselves. Even Lance. It was while reading books in the library that his hatred developed, suggesting that there is information that we don't have about the Blue Sacrifice. We still don't know this info: Lance just seems to blame the faeries for letting the dragons sacrifice themselves, nothing else.
- How did Lance and Leiftan become partners? We don't know. Why does Leif say that without him Lance is nothing? We don't know.
- How did Ykhar know that Leiftan was a traitor? Where did the hostage go?
- Ykhar and Chrome who tell an experienced killer that they are going to report him.
- Chrome who says that Leiftan manipulated him to join him whereas, in a previous episode, Leiftan reminds Chrome that it was he who called him.
- Some members of the Guard speak several languages, but no one can read the instructions on a package of pasta. And since Erika seems to have no idea where the language is located, it must be a package of alien pasta.
- Ewelein was to give us a gift. We are still waiting.
- The faerys had recent humans books, like Twilight. Ykhar didn't know what television was: yet, her favorite book was Barjavel's " The Night of Time", in which we talk about television.
- Oluhua said that it was not possible to use Leiftan's blood to transfuse Feng Zifu, without explaining why. She was not on Leiftan's list of traitors, so we still don't know what Oluhua knows.
- Miiko announces to us that there is a ritual acting as a lie detector. She must have forgotten its existence when she had to find the traitors of the Guard.
- Erika learned to understand the familiars. She quickly forgot about it.
- Erika is described as a high school student in the CGU. In the story, she is around 23-24 years old since she finished her studies.
- the Guard claimed to be able to detect dragons. Lance and Valkyon are proof that this is not true.
- Nevra, as a vampire, is able to smell blood from a small cut. Her sister was unable to smell the blood in Ykhar’s room.
@lukeios
- (Death TW) Ykhar's death and her body looking pale after 2-3 days in the room. Total disregard for research. The body should be in stage 2 of decomposition.
- The clothing and armors. Dressing a warrior into an armor that shows stomach - the most vulnerable part of the body - is somehow inappropriate, even for a fantasy setting. If they had other clothing used for battles OR the game would be pure fanservice - it would be ok.
- For some reason Lance's sword from The winter illustration seems like too much. It looks too broad, like a piece of a metal wall. It doesn't seem like it would be useful in a fight - it seems way too hard to use that thing than it would be necessary. Mind you - if something like this is happening in a fantasy setting, an explanation is mandatory. Is the sword extremely light? Is it made of a material that is changing shape? This point isn't exactly only about the sword. Beemoov keeps on throwing things at us without a proper explanation and if the explanation is even present, it's not explored enough.
- Our pet is killed in episode 30. Does it change anything in the page section of pets? Is the exploration frozen? I don't think so.
@waywardpeachworld
- Stealing food from Earth for many years without a way to preserve it. Not making a connection with any humans because "they are evil".
- Miiko told the MC there are humans in Eldarya who are searching for her. Where did they go?
- The potion fiasco. What happened to all the photos of the MC? Aren't her parents wondering "who is this girl who looks like us?" in the albums? (according to an anon, the potion was able to erase any proof of her existence on Earth. No photos were left. Thanks, Anon! )
-They can make very powerful potions that literally erase somebody from the memory of everyone who had known them in a different realm but still cannot make a “potion” to preserve the crops they steal.
- Ez's crimes were mentioned once and never again. This information seemed too important to just be left alone.
@glassmoonfortuneteller
- How at the beginning of the game, they mentioned us several times Erika’s special eye color (purple with golden light) and how this was an important clue to know what kind of faelienne she is. It’s never mentioned again even after we found out she’s an aengel. Apparently it wasn’t that relevant.
- How the guard has a portal to Earth near the HQ facilities but Erika never seemed interested in it to go and see it for herself since she arrived at Eldarya, especially since she was determined to know everything about the portals when she still had hope of going back to her world during the first episodes.
- When Lance kidnapped Erika, she finds out Enthraa is a traitor and that she’s working for him. After she’s rescued and goes back to the HQ, she doesn’t say this to the other members. They found out about it only when Enthraa ambushed Erika and Miiko in later episodes and gets killed.
- How food was rationed and limited at the beginning of the game, but in later episodes this doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore.
- How Lance said he found out about the sacrifice of the dragons in the library archives, but during Erika’s history classes in the HQ they said there weren’t any records about the blue sacrifice and all they knew was passed down through generations through oral traditions and tales. If that’s true, then Lance and Valkyon would have known about it since they were kids with adults telling them about the stories of the creation of Eldarya.
- What happened to Marie Anne after she was captured and purified of the faerie blood? She’s not mentioned again after that.
- Humans in Eldarya were mentioned once, and that’s it.
- How Erika is characterized as a very kind and empathic person but didn’t seem affected when she found out Ykhar was killed.
- How Leiftan was the one who killed Ykhar since he was with Erika and the other guard members in Memoria the whole time.
- Alajea’s fear of water is not a thing anymore.
- Why Erika took Valkyon leaving with Lance as a betrayal, she was right there when that happened and saw that he did it to protect her.
@nelielombrelune
- Miko told us dragon’s ingrédients were necessary to open portals, but later she finally said those weren’t really “dragon” stuff but they called it like this because, you know, everything there is a mess.
- Humans were supposed to be a threat on Eldarya (Miiko mentioned secret societies like Illuminatis, Templars or Freemasons but we’ve never heard about them anymore)
- There is no real food in Eldarya and the Guard has to open portals to Earth to steal foodstuffs for Eels survival. They don’t know how to cook and eat raw pasta in the firsts episodes but a few episodes later they throw tea-parties where Karuto & Erika bakes crepes and cakes.
- In episode 20, Leiftan says he's been waiting for Erika for years. Except that he does not seem to know who she is, nor her species or where she comes from, how she came here, nor her connection to the Oracle...
- When we’re in Ashkore PoV he said his ancestors killed the daemons
- Once upon a time we had to choose a “job” (infirmary, library, and I don’t remember the third one), but we never hear about it in the next episodes.
- On the illustration where Leiftan saves Erika from falling off the cliff, his wings are white, he’s got only 2 and his horns have disappeared
- In episode 30 Lance calls Erika “the human” though he knows she’s an aengel
- What about the war ? Lance killed his brother, Erika and Leiftan sacrificed themselves and then what ? Did Lance just leave after all the time he tried to destroy Eldarya ?
- “In episode 29 Miiko (I think it was her) says that they will have enough water for everyone because they filter rainwater but in episode 19 someone has said that it barely rains in Eldarya...”
@momiyi-chan
- Three enemies of Eldarya (Triades, Illuminati, and Templars) are mentioned but never make any appearance. It is said the Templars are trying to get MC to rescue her. Where are they?
- Until episode 20 the Guard was looking for the pieces of the crystal, that were scattered on Eldarya. That was never mentioned again. Crystal became irrelevant.
- Who taught Naytili to corrupt the crystals? Leiftan and Lance were very interested in learning that skill, but it was never touched again.
@hsakurausasuke
- Mary Anne is still rooting in prison. It's like she disappeared.
@velleitxs
- Erica cannot decide if she is an aengel or a human with the blood of an aengel
@susymei
- Episode 15, we never learned the consequences of telling or not telling the Guard, that Ashkore was stealing food in the HQ.
- Ashkore doesn’t kill Huang Hua because Erica likes her, and yet he wants to kill her few episodes later.
- Episode 26. We can kind of flirt with Lance. There is some tension on the cliff (if you pick right choices) and he protects us from the heat of the volcano. The episodes afterward completely forgot about those choices - it’s like Episode 26 never happened.
@valethari
- The episode in which Gardienne becomes a mermaid to go back from the Kappa Island to the HQ: She almost drowns and her S/O saves her and carries her up the stairs to the infirmary effortlessly and princess-style. When Colaïa was the one in the dungeon and Karen, Alajéa and Gardienne tried to bring her to the sea again, they said she was SO heavy because her tail is pure muscle, and between THREE people they had a lot of trouble carrying her.
Well, that was pretty long! Thank you for reading all of those! Have a nice weekend guys and stay healthy <3

NECROMANCY is a topic minimally explored in the world of Dragon Age, and only became a true specialization with Inquisition. Notably, many of the spells in the necromancer tree existed in the games prior in the ENTROPY tree, as per Origins and II. What we know of necromancy is that it has a relatively negative reputation overall. It’s only Nevarra that views necromancy in a positive light, calling their necromancers the mortalitasi and giving them a good measure of power and high societal standing. It stands to reason, then, that it’s sensible for the Inquisitor to learn necromancy from one of these mortalitasi.
Never mind that Dorian is literally right there. ( no, i’m not bitter at all, what would have given you that idea? honestly !! )
Nonetheless, what we know of the necromancer specialization route in Inquisition is this : you find a specifically Nevarran skull, bind a recently dead necromancer spirit/soul to it, and it’ll teach you. Alright, not the strangest thing I’ve ever heard of by far, yet I couldn’t help but think that surely magic varies depending on the region. And, furthermore, specializations must carry a different weight. And even beyond that, that the path of specialization must differ between, for example, Nevarra and Tevinter. Thedas is a relatively large place, and though Nevarra and Tevinter are neighboring countries, I couldn’t help but think that there has to be a difference.
And thus : this monster.
Necromancy is, literally, death magic. In Dragon Age, it pertains specifically to the utilization of spirits and, furthermore, spirits drawn to death. That is one of the key points to necromancy as a whole, and heavily influences the following.
In the Imperium, magical specializations and the furthermore ability to specialize are seen, somewhat, as a status symbol. Being powerful enough in one subject to be able to master it, for all intents and purposes. The concept that specializations are almost like guilds, cohorts of mages who come together for a common purpose/reason/goal and henceforth have certain sets of skills that can be utilized in order to accomplish jobs and whatnot, isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility. In a society as mage-heavy and magically inclined as Tevinter, that seems to be the only possibility, given that Circles are learning institutions and jobs requiring magic must exist.
But I digress, as that’s more a topic to delve into another time, but it’s essential to understand this : Dorian was marked by Death and chose to walk the path of the necromancer ( ha ) in part because of that. Specializing in necromancy is a difficult choice to undertake, and very few mages are able to truly complete such a path, and in fact must have a predilection for death on some metaphysical level. Furthermore, specializing in much of anything in Tevinter requires something like a benefactor, similar to what Alexius acted as for Dorian. That’s the first step. To be chosen, quite literally.
Dorian was chosen by a mage named Melinoe. A skilled necromancer in her own right, and the informal ( or perhaps formal ) head necromancer in Tevinter. The story of their relationship spans many years, beginning when they first crossed paths when Dorian was six years old and visiting Minrathous with his father for official business. They, quite literally, crossed paths on some random street between some random buildings and Melinoe sensed about him an incredible aura of Death. Something that drew her notice, and thus the notice of necromancers in Tevinter.
The process of a mage choosing their specialization or, I suppose, their specialization choosing the mage in a great deal of the cases is one frankly akin to courting. Mages attend Circles to gain their magical education as Dorian did ( running amok through every Circle in Tevinter, as well all know ) and there are a great deal of events surrounding mages coming into their magic. Some are strictly high society, the ones that Dorian partook in, naturally. Others are far more akin to parlours, public forums that allowed mages to find mentors, meet with others, and generally networking. Through these opportunities is the chance to prove your potential for a certain specialization, if a mage chooses to do so.
Now, Dorian’s only offer ( so to speak ) wasn’t just the necromancer specialization given the fact that he is a mage of prodigious skill, and therefore had generally vast potential. That being said, none of them particularly caught him at first. Not even necromancy.
Dorian didn’t choose his specialization until he was nineteen, in the care of the Alexius family, and had found Melinoe again. Or rather, she had found him.
The path of specializing in necromancy in the Imperium is a well kept secret, as is most specialization in general, passed from necromancer to necromancer. It is very much a process and a ritual, and an arduous one at that. First you must be chosen, and then you must choose to walk the path. Dorian decided to out of curiosity and because of the draw that he felt towards it ——— and the challenged that laid within. Necromancy is death magic, something that seems unnatural and fearsome to the living, and difficult to master besides. Dorian, an arrogant young man at the best of times, wished to best it, in some ways.
Once a mage decides to walk the path of the necromancer, which is a very spirit heavy specialization ( akin to spirit healers, in some ways ) they must prove themselves further. Not to their peers nor their mentor, no. To death spirits, themselves. Spirits of death. Spirits drawn to death. And so on and so forth.
as a mild aside, spirits drawn to death naturally are as follows : spirits of death, spirits of fear, spirits of peace, spirits of faith, and, of course, terror demons.
This process is one underwent by inscribing glyphs onto a mage’s body, with variable locations. Dorian chose the back of his neck, but it tends to vary depending on the mage. This marking includes some ancient sigils, as well as the words non mortem timemus, nascentes morimur in Ancient Tevene. The words translate to we do not fear death, for from the moment we are born, we begin to die. Morbid, certainly, but it gets the point across.
The glyphs are drawn into the skin with ink and there is a potion ingested that is called e morte vita. From life, death. This potion is created from blood lotus, prophet’s laurel, and death root. The candidate has this glyph drawn into their skin and ingests the potion, which puts them in a state suspended between life and death ——— all in the hopes of drawing a death spirit to them. A spirit will choose them if they have enough potential, quite frankly, and if the mage succeeds the glyph becomes etched into their skin and they awaken with a faint connection to a spirit of death. Or a spirit drawn to death, perhaps.
Dorian underwent this process, and when he drank the potion he awoke very soon after. Far faster than most who go through this process, but the side effect was a state of dissociation where he was neither in the Fade nor on the proper side of the Veil, and he remained that way for a short period of time. The spirit who chose him was not Death ( as Death is not a spirit, per say, but that’s another subject for another time ) but was a very powerful spirit of death who had been drawn to him for a great deal of time.
Following attracting a spirit to your person, aka convincing it somehow that a mage may be worthy to learn death magic wholly, there is something of a quest that is underwent. This is a quest done only by the mage wishing to become a necromancer, and is led by the spirit who they have forged a connection with. Naturally, this means that the mage only gets directions in their sleep. You can see how frustrating that may be. Nonetheless !! This quest can take a mage anywhere, quite frankly. To any corner of Thedas, over any ocean, etc. It’s entirely directed by the spirit, and brings the mage to a grave, or a crypt, or a tomb, or something of that nature, wherein they will dig / generally defile the sight at the behest of the spirit, to obtain the bones of someone deceased.
It’s unknown if this corpse had been the spirit, while they were alive, or had any particular significance. This is a mystery to all necromancers, and something hotly debated in the Imperial school ( so to speak ) of necromancy. Nonetheless, this is a journey undertaken by all necromancers-to-be.
Dorian’s spirit took him to the far corner of Rivain, entirely over land, a long and winding journey that was incredibly frustrating to him. It culminated in him finding a long forgotten tomb that had been constructed, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere and was unmarked, for all that it seemed to radiate old magic. Not ancient magic, mind you, but magic that was several Ages old, at least. Upon unearthing and opening the stone entrance to the tomb, he found a singular corpse, nearly all bone by this point in time. The logistics behind which were, theoretically, impossible lest there was magic involved. And thus, he took these bones, and returned to Minrathous. By ship, this time, thank you.
The next step in this path is the creation of a necromancer’s staff. The lore that I have behind staffs and magic in the Dragon Age universe is something for another time, but this magic is meant to be a conduit for death magic specifically, and it’s created via an ancient ritual that involves the femur of the bones taken from the grave site chosen, carved to form the primary hand-grip of the staff. It also involves rune inscribed leather, with death runes specifically, fade touched cloth, phoenix scales, to symbolize and empower the cyclical and natural nature of death and the use thereof, and veil quartz, to act as the primary conduit of magic at the head of the staff.
Once the staff is created, the spirit that has a tenuous connection with the soon-to-be necromancer trainee must be bound to it in a process that both parties are aware of, agree to, and utilizes the remaining ground bones of the body taken, and the mage’s blood. Not much, just a little bit of it, but this is a process that can occasionally go wrong and cause ABOMINATIONS to be formed. Dorian, at this age, saw no problem in minor blood magic, given the status of it in Tevinter and his spirit of rebellion, so to speak.
The binding ritual, for Dorian, was more complicated than he thought it would be, what with his youthful arrogance. The spirit had chosen him and agreed to it, but the stipulation was something along the lines of total equality to him, and while he had seen spirits be bound before, and had taken part during his times as a reckless and wild idiot, frankly, in the Circles, this was an entirely different process altogether. Gaining the notice and almost ( though not quite ) trust required for such a thing from a spirit is difficult ——— this is, in fact, where many people fail, if not at the first engraving to garner the notice of a spirit, to begin with. Dorian succeeded, in the end, and through that gained the understanding of the true will of spirits. Or the extent to their will, that is.
Nonetheless : the spirit is bound, and the creation of the staff is finished, and that mage walks the path of the necromancer from there on. The mentor, who often chooses the inductee, begins training the person properly, with heavy emphasis on the funerary and otherwise traditions that Imperial necromancers tend to take part in.
More on that in another headcanon, I think. This one is... far too long.
#( ∞ ┈┈ headcanon ) SOMEWHERE IN THE HISTORY BOOKS.#[ fuck it it's been a year i'm posting this ]#[ pls validate me i'm Begging ]#[ this is literally So Fucking Long it's FUCKING ABSURD ]#[ so the usual ]#[ i've been referencing parts of this for ages ]#[ so here it is in its full... ]#[ uhhhhh glory? stupidity? who knows lmao ]#[ just making up my own lore ]#[ once again because i haaaaate biowaaaaaaare ]

Enderal Character Ask – Fill it out yourself or reblog as is to use as an ask meme. Have fun! <3 So i start to work, but only in short answers :D ————————————— 1. The basics – name, age, etc… Her name is Mya Megles, 28 years young, female and quite normal.
2. Describe their appearance. I would say her hair is dark brown with little bit red. The red you can see in the sun.
3. How do they like to dress? She likes to wear trousers best and a linen shirt. Leather shoes not more. Yaaa.. its not special, but the most comfortable without armor. And dressesonly for nice occasions.
4. Do they have any markings (scars, tattoos, birthmarks)? Hehe.. a heroic scar on the face from a fight with a domestic cat ;D Big scar on the hip and a few small strokes through the birth of son.
5. What are they like? Describe their personality (use whatever tools you like- MBTI, D&D alignment, astrological signs, Hogwarts house, words/phrases): Ouw yes this ancient civilication. They call them starlings, i thing. So the stars are really beautiful, and plants, right. Astrology, Symbols and all this magic things.
6. How would they describe themselves? Mya is a little bit shy, but a happy person. She loves beautiful things such as sunsets, candles and flowery meadows. Just an almost typical woman. As far as trust in others is conserned, she is rather careful, because shes been hurt badly in the past.
7. Education level? On a scale from 1 to 10 she is a 7/8. Mya is a "Bookworm" and reads everything she can get her hands on.
8. What are they proud of in themselves? What are they embarrassed about? Proud? Rather happy to finally be able to decide for yourself about your own life. And possibly ashamed of being laughed at because of their height. Not to be taken seriously. As they are now by most in the Sun Temple ;D
9. Do they know any languages other than Inal? Only Inâl and native language.
10. What, if any, aspects of their mother’s culture influenced them growing up? Mother always sang songs about the old gods, no matter at what time. It always cheered her up. Mya´s forgotten many things in recent events :(
11. Name a song (or a few) that remind you of them. Almost all songs remind me of previous life with my family.
12. Speaking of songs, can they sing? What is their voice like? How about instruments? Mya can sing, but she doesn´t like singing in front of people. She´s got a deep voice for a woman. Hm.. She doesn´t know much about music, and she doesn´t play any instruments.
13. What was their life like before coming to Enderal? Before we noticed the real war, it was a nice quit life with son Kaleb and partner. Since he disappeared and mother died of a serious illnes and old age. She was lonely with son for short time until she met Sirius.
14. How did they decide to leave Nehrim? When Sirius opened Myas eyes to begin a new life. Kaleb (4) was too young to make this journey. With a heavy heart she placed him in a kind of monastery. The abbot knew her and her mother from befor. Now she doesn´t even know if Kaleb is still alive. Not a day goes by without thinking of him. The plan to go to another country came from Sirius. Different perspectives, different opportunities. He never told her how old he was. She suspected he was younger than she was. He had a lot of plans for the new life.
15. Describe their relationship with Sirius. Sirius will always remain Mya´s best friend, or like a brother. He was the only one she could trust after the thing with Kalebs father. Mother said she couldn´t sit in the house forever, she´s still young. So she made contacts with the outside world. They understood each other from the beginning.
16. Who do they blame for what happened to their family? Hmm... fate? The Nehrimese? Why must we always look for fault in others? Perhaps there were reasons for what happened.
17. Apart from stowing away, have they ever broken the law? On the run, Sirius and Mya stole to keep from starving. They couldn´t take much food with them on their journey.
18. How honest are they? Under what circumstances would they lie? She would only lie if the lives of the innocent were at stake. Better to be honest and hurt, than to be dishonest and have a bad conscience.
19. Worst memory(s)? Best memory(s)? Worst: mother on her deathbed with that whitegrey face. When she brought Kaleb to the monastery. Best: Mother always cooked and sang, and everyone laughed. Even Sirus was there. The birth of Kaleb. 20. Fight, or flight? Fight!
21. Describe their combat style. In short words: defensive and with full energy!
22. Have they ever killed before? What is their reaction to combat? She killed, yes. The blood is shocking at first. But it was easier to get through, when you were distracted.
23. How do they react to having magical abilities? Do they use them? Mya uses Restoration- spells after combat. Thats all she can take. She can´t handle potions. Fear of arcanistfever is very real. 24. What do they think of Enderal? Enderal is a beautiful country. Big Forests, great coastlines... The people are a little too much led by their trails. A little limited in their ability to think ahead. :D If she wanted to live in a place like this, it would be the Sunshine coast.
25. Did they do the Biggest Egg Hunt Ever quest? Of course! She got all the eggs Kurmai wanted.
26. How do they feel about joining the Order? What do they think of Arantheal? About the joining the Order, uh... it all happened very quickly. There was no time for Mya to get at least a little bit of information about it. She could have simply accepted smaller tasks, like Jespar. The life of a mercenary. A beautiful title. Myas opinion about Arantheal is very divided: He´s a nice guy, could be Myas grandfather. Strange was only that he put so much responsibility and trust in her. Apart from that she is a foreigner and has no idea. But she soon realized that he was selfish.. The opinions of his advisors were not important to him at all.
27. What is their opinion of the gods (or lack thereof)? The people of Enderal would be better off without the gods. They´d just ahve to learn to turn their own heads. That´s what it´s for. Each man should choose his own path, decide which vocation is best. A mayor or king would be quite sufficent for rules.
28. Wine, or pipe? Both! More wine, less pipe. Mya´s only weakness.
29. Do they spare or arrest Hallys, the farmer-turned-bandit in the quest, Deus Ex Machina? Why? Arrest him! He puts his own life before that of 100 poor people. The family should go to the food bank itself. If they´re not too proud.
30. What are their feelings and opinions about the Undercity? Mya´s disappointed about the undercity. The roads are destroyed. The "houses" aren´t even made of stone. It stinks everywhere. In the uppercity not a word is spoken about it. This is no life for a human being. If Mya could, and had the means, she would change so much. Not to see herself in a better light, but to prevent suffering. At least for the children or the sick.
31. How do they react to the beggars of Ark? When Mya sees a beggar, she supports him/her. Either with food or coins.
32. Where and how do they spend their time when in Ark? She´s home a lot. Sometimes in the dancing nomad with Jespar, when he has time. When Mya needs her rest, she also goes to Undercity in the Tavern.
33. What would they do with three wishes? Good Question. She would save them for important moments.
34. How do they feel about death? Do they fear it? Fear death? No, he´ll come one day anyway. Or if you´re not careful.
35. What (else) do they fear? Mya´s afraid of spiders. Big, hairy spiders... Fear of heights.
36. Do they have any secrets? Secrets, yes... Everyone has their secrets... :P
37. How is their behavior around people they like? People they dislike? If one of her loved ones needs help, she is there. But when she really likes someone, she shows it with little gestures and specific word. If she does not like someone at all, she tries to avoid them as much as possible. For example Natara.
38. What is their relationship with the companions? Who, if anyone, did your prophet romance? It´s difficult. Mya was initially very fascinated by Jespar. He is a good friend. Both have the same view of freedom and relationships. It is always an adventure to travel with him. He always has something to say. But Mya is not sure if she wants to start a romance with him. As for Calia, besides Arantheal, she was the only person of the holy order who talked to her normally. She´s like a sister. Unfortunately, she is too devoted to her sacred duties. So spending time with her is very difficult. In herself a beautiful woman and very trustworthy, but not suitable for a romance. Now Esme: She doesn´t really know anything about Esme. She is a nice girl yes, but she is too attached to her partner. Esme and Mya finished a mission together, but when they finally met at the Tower, there was not much to talk about. The ways parted. Let us come to Tharael.. If Mya had never entered the arena, she never would have met him. In short words: He´s an asshole, but one with good intentions. Mya always wonderes if he had ever seen the uppercity. In all his conversations, everything he said referred to the Undercity, the father and the bad sides of the people. He definitely needs to relax. ;) Finally Dijam. A very strong personality, very dominant. The meeting with her were pleasant. But Mya can´t imagine spending a few days with her. Dijam is always convinced of her opinion, so Mya would never dare to speak her own mind. It would definitely lead to a fight. Currently, there is no Romance with Mya.
39. Was there any non-companion character that they were close to? That they particularly disliked? + Konstantin was an old unfriendly guy, but still quite cool. If Mya was interested in magic, he could be her mentor. She´s still wondering, was he like that in Nehrim? -Natara didn´t even knoe Mya and thougt she was going to be judged. Does she really think that Mya chose this path?
40. How do they feel about myrads? They are respectful animals. Loveable if domesticated, as the keeper said. Mya prefers the horse because of her fear of heights.
41. What dreams or ambitions did they have before coming to Enderal? What about afterwards? She never had big dreams. Just a simple life with her son. Now her only dream is not to be alone and see Kaleb again. Maybe there are bigger dreams and Mya just doesn´t know it yet.
42. Do they like cities? Or do they prefer the country? Is there a region of Enderal that they like or dislike more than the others? It´s too loud in the city. Life in the country is much more relaxed. The suncoast was impressive from the beginning...
43. What do they do to lower their considerable stress? When Mya comes home after a mission, cooking something or meditating by the fireplace.
44. Describe their perfect day off. There are so many things you can do. Like take a bath in a water hole. Or lying on a flower meadow by the lake with a good book.
45. List three of their favorite things. Three things they hate? Her favourite things are her books. She likes listening to other people´s stories. Wine!.. hehe What she does not like are loud noises, ignorance and bad food :D
46. What’s in their pockets? Oh it varies from trip to trip. Myas diary is always with her. A few coins. Food. Everything you find interesting on a mission.
47. Pets? Mounts? Treasured possessions? A cat that always hides in the house. Then there is Hurricane the horse. Myas prized possessions are her books. Nothing about material things is more important to her.
48. How are their cooking skills? For regular food, Mya cooks very well. She learned that from her mother. She likes to bake things.
49. Do you consider any particular quest or side quest to be definitive for your prophet? Which one(s) and why? Every secondary task that involves making decisions is difficult for her.
50. How forgiving are they? For example, if they were yelled at in a brothel after searching high and low for this little sh*t, how would they react? Hm. It depends on what situation Mya´s in. If she sees a boy steal an apple, it´s her. But if she sees someone taking money from the poor. Then Mya´s not forgiven. (Hallys)
51. What do they think of the Veiled Woman? The first time, Mya thought she was in another dream. Whether she´s s ghost or a god, it doesn´t matter. When the veiled woman really plays a major role in this matter, why can´t she help? It will always be a mystery. She has no opinion for her. She doesn´t show herself enough.
52. If they had been a victim of one of the black stones, how would it have affected them? What would they have used its power to accomplish? Similar to little Rhyneus, she would have created a world as it was before. When everyone was alive and with her. Sirius, Mother, Kaleb,... In the end she would go crazy, because it´s all up to her wishes.
53. What was their reaction to the Black Guardian’s revelations? Do they accept or reject his offer? Even though it all sounds very lgical what the black guard says, she refused. The reason is: If he really comes out of that device/Goliath( How ever;)), the whole thing would start all over again. He would be a "god", yes. People would be subservient. And as it was depicted in the Star City, it would all happen again. Over and over.
54. How does their story end? With Mya, the story will never end. All solutions have good and bad sides. If she doesn´t start the purification and the construction of the beacon, everything is fine. All her loved ones stay alive.
55. Do they change over the course of the story? In what ways? No.
56. Anything else you’d like to share about them? At this moment, not no.
I am not a big writer but... enjoy it, please :D Big Thanks for @enderalappreciationblog

An Oddly Familiar Face (Geralt x high elf reader, Part 1.)
Description: Seeing a face in dreams was a foreseeing of the incoming future, as many told you. But when the man finally comes, you don't know if it is right or wrong.
Warnings: Nothing really. Geralt and reader mostly speak in this part and also, Cirilla is here too!
Dedicated to @onlyhopebensolo since this honey bee asked me to write for them! 🖤 Also, if this isn't what you've expected, I'm so, so, so sorry my love!
A/N: I was supposed to have one part... Well... Didn't quite work out, did it? Also, I know that Thranduil is from LOTR and that he is a Sindarin elf, but I just love that bitch, okay? Let me live my dream. Also, in the end, it is heavily inspired by Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey.

Another beautiful day in the Garden was just begging, one of many to come. Flowers were blossoming all year long, so your people were almost always provided with food and alcohol for a good mood. You had endless fields full of various animals, like the sacred deers with white fur, tamed wolves, whatever caught your eye, really. The Garden was piece heaven located on the Continent - a normal human being couldn't stumble there without a proper map or coordinates since it was protected by many spells of the ancient mages.
The high elves were living in the Garden since the dawn of the Continent - before the chaos started to rule over and before the first Witcher schools were created or even before humans arrived. The founders came alongside other elder races - dwarves and gnomes. The Garden was home to an old elvish family who were never referred to with the name of their dynasty. The other elves only called these ones Hain, which meant Them when translated to a general language of the Continent.
Hain provided for the Garden since it was built around the sacred tree which was giving life - Hain were making contact with the outside world, sometimes exchanging items like meteorite steel, leather, diamonds or clothing. Sometimes humans asked for their fruits or alcohol, sometimes they sought answers or help from the Hain and the other elves.
Even if you did have a good name among the human race, you never got into their wars, fights or conflicts. You were always only the watchers standing in the shadows.
One sacred yet cruel rule applied to all the elves who decided to leave the Garden - all of them were forbidden to ever come back. The elves outside were your distant family, yes, but no Hain supported a relationship between elves and the other races. So, you distanced from the descendants of such relationships as much as you could.
There was an ancient purity kept in your relationships - a Hain could only marry a member of another Hain dynasty, and all of the elves living in the Garden were established families with the purest blood they could possibly have, letting their children marry in such way that there was no room for anything unpure. It was a weird thing, but elves were obsessed with pure blood since the dawn of ages.
Of course, if there was an elf in need, you provided food, clothes, whatever the person needed - but you never let them inside Garden. That was the holy rule and nobody was brave enough to go against it. For those who lived there, it was a sacred home and to lose a place in this society meant utter shame for every of those who left.
Hain had their people all over the continent, monitoring the situation - mostly it were spies hiding in the big cities of the Continent, bringing information twice or once a year before setting off to the world again. Your people were known for the wisdom and reserved attitude they were born with.
Also, Hain were known for possessing ancient powers inherited from the elder elves - powers of foreseeing their future, the powers of reading minds and an unbelievable portion of chaos running inside their veins. All of them were great sorcerers.
But you came across differently than the others - you were able to perform difficult spells, yes, but your gift was unlike anyone else's. One day, you started to see visions in your dreams, yet you weren't predicting the future.
You were seeing a man, a tall one with hair of white and silver, carrying a sword on his back and a heavy armor on his body. You first saw him when he has woken up from a slumber in deep woods, but he clearly didn't know what, who or where he was. You saw this man lost himself in the woods and he felt... Empty. Like an amphora - without memories, without feelings... There was nothing inside.
You never learned his name from your dreams, nor where he was living or how old was he. You only knew that he had a medallion around his neck and that although he bore a recognizable similarity to the human race, he wasn’t one of them. You've heard a few stories about the man - never mentioned by name, he was a shadow called the White Wolf.
When you saw him slaying monsters from the conjunction for the first time, it made your heart race with an unknown feeling. When you have woken up that night, you felt that you're... Afraid. You looked at your hands and wondered since you never felt so alive throughout the eons you've lived for. Adrenaline was rushing through your veins, your hands were shaking and breathing was getting heavy.
That was the first time you lightened up the lamp in your room, took an old sketching book and drawn him as he pierced his sword through the beast's chest. You could see everything vividly in your head - the yellow blood dripping out of its body, its opened mouth full of sharp teeth and claws reaching out for the White Wolf.
After that, you sketched him after every dream, killing your time with it. You had details of his face and body, of his equipment, of the monsters he slew, of his pendant. You had soon sketched three whole books just with the remnants of your dreams. You knew him, or so you felt, even if you never heard his name or voice.
Hain naturally inclined to believe in destiny as well as humans did - they only had their own names, legends, and explanations. Naturally, when you told your maid and sister that you see a man in your dreams, both of them agreed that it's the destiny manifesting in its own way.
"Maybe he's going to come for you and save you from here." - Elion, your sister, said with a mysterious giggle as she sat on your bed. That was the first time you ever showed them Wolf's sketches. You both were very similar to each other by the looks since you were born out of the light as twins. She was more provocative and confident than you were, that was how your mother always knew who is who.
Elion always dreamt of falling in love and leaving the Garden to live a life as a mortal elf, she dreamt of true love, adventures and crazy things that were just not possible for a Hain. She hated living in the Gardens for eons, she hated living the same day again and again. - "He is very handsome by the looks of it." - Elion admitted quietly, watching each of your drawings with her eyebrows knitted together.
On the other hand, your main maid Gael, one of the nobles, wasn't exactly over the heels for you seeing the Wolf in your dreams. She was worried that it might mean a catastrophe approaching you and your family.
But when the day destiny planned to reveal itself to you through Geralt, it all started as a normal morning. You have woken up to singing birds and beautifully smelling flowers, sun and the tree of life shining through your balcony.
There was no need for windows in the Garden. It was well protected with the ancient magic, so the weather never got too bad, it only rained a bit from time to time, so you could smell the flowers as if it was blossoming just in front of your nose.
The dream you had was a different one - yes, you saw the Wolf with other beings, such as whores, other Wolves or sorceresses before, but you never saw him with a child by his side. It was a girl dressed in a blue cape. She was pretty, truly pretty with her green, big eyes and long, ashen hair. By the time you were done with your drawing, you have breakfast served and robe prepared, so you could put it on and start your day.
Since your father always thought you're the more reasonable child, he was always pleased to see you at the gathering when new intel was delivered to the Garden. That day, nothing important happened - the spy from Cintra still wasn't back, Nilfgaardians were still trying to take Temeria out of the play and Skellige... Well... They were the mighty islanders who never got into the wars happening on the Continent.
Also, there was a slowly fading need for supplies in Novigrad since most of the elves living in the city joined Scoia'tael, the resistance of non-human beings.
Just when you were in the middle of a debate about the Novigrad situation, one of your maids rushed into the room, catching everyone’s attention.
"I don't know how did it happen, but a man with a girl in his arms just crossed the gate to the Garden." - She said with a tone full of wonder. A man with a girl? That sure sounded familiar to you. - "He said that he means no harm to us, but the girl is very sick."
"How do they look like?" - You asked, playing with the jewelry around your neck, letting the discussion to be completely forgotten. There was something way more... Arousing going on.
"Both of ashen hair, fair-skinned. Neither of them is human." - The maid said and your breath got stuck in your throat. A man with a girl, both white-haired. White Wolf and his small girl you saw in your dream. You needed to see them, to talk with them, to determine yourself that they're real.
"And they found themselves way in? On their own? That's impossible." - Your father, one of the elders, stood up with confusion on his face. You couldn't contain your excitement for a while as you tried to catch your breath. - "Well, give them food and water to drink, bring them blankets and let them rest in the hall of Rovan, help the girl. We can't just send them away now when they're in."
Your father was a wise man. He wasn't too over the heels that these two were there. But then they already got on, elves were inclined to show the guests hospitality. If the girl wasn't all right, nobody would just send them away.
But you were excited. Maybe overexcited to say the least. The Wolf was there. Your destiny had to be linked and you felt the need to see him. You immediately asked your father to have an audience with him or the other way around.
"Are you interested in the foreigner, my child?" - Your father asked when you slowly walked through the gardens together. This stroll was a common thing happening every midday. You didn't answer but you gave him a smile. - "Do you think that foreigners are something special? I tell you, they are not. They are dirty from the sin and outside world, their minds were corrupted with chaos and anarchy. Why would you like to speak to them?"
"That's a difficult question to answer, my dear father." - You answered quietly and looked at the colorful spectrum of orchids by your side.
"We have eternity to explain and eons to understand." - The voice of your father could be heard again. You only wished to be as wise as he was, to be completely clear with your thoughts and to always look away from your personal struggles and opinions to be a fair judge. Your father had that ability - understandingly, it took eons to master, but he could be pure with opinions and words.
"I am sure that the man's destiny is somehow linked with mine. I don't know-how is that possible when we never met before, but I saw him in my dreams. Every night of last five human years, I saw him." - You explained the fastest way around, simply, yet complex enough not to see everything immediately.
"It is possible, yes. It happens rarely, but it isn't the first time I hear about this. Maybe, you were just foreseeing that he and his daughter will come, that is the better option." - Your father stopped and smoothed a big, blue rose, smelling it gently. - "If it's the other way around, there is a possibility that you're meant to do great things by his side. That's destiny. It always shows Hain their path, but never explains what does lead to that situation or what consequences will it bring."
"So you're telling me that it's possible that I'm drawn to him because of what does destiny has in the plan, yet it can bring fatal consequences." - You repeated after your father in with thoughts present in your voice. Honestly, it wasn't easy to determine if it excited you if it brought you a fair amount of terror. Obviously, you were drawn to the man because of destiny. But destiny could have practically any plans for you.
"It wouldn't be wise to denying you from seeing the man. I will tell others to separate him so you could talk in private. See him when you'll be ready, my child. And prepare for whatever your dialogue can bring." - Your father said calmly, yet you could tell that it doesn't make him happy. What if destiny planned you to separate from your family? What if it takes one of his daughters away? How should a father react to news like those?
It was almost midnight when someone finally decided to talk to the Witcher. He was nervously sitting in the hall they brought him to the whole time, not being sure about what to think. The elves just told him to wait and that everything will be revealed when the time's right and left him with food and blanket. Geralt knew that it wouldn't be wise to go against the elder's decision. So he sat there and waited just as he was told - some maids served him even more plates of delicious food and alcohol, scrolls with legends to read and an overlook onto the whole Garden where he could watch the nearby celebration.
When he heard first footsteps, he immediately turned his head in the direction of the source. Geralt's head turned on a figure which was ascending the stairs made out of perfectly white stone with railing from the purest crystal he had ever seen. It also felt like an eternity since he saw Ciri for the last time. He didn't know what the elves were doing to her or where she was - he was only hoping that Cirilla is alive and well.
Hain were something who Geralt knew he can put his trust into. They were joyful, delighted, intelligent a most of the time very reserved. But they were creatures that could be trusted.
This one was somehow different, Geralt could tell that straight away. Her hair was neatly brushed with lots of jewelry braided in it, yes, but that was where the similarity to other Hain was ending. Not so say that she was wearing a piece of clothing that could be barely taken as underwear - her silhouette was covered with many layers of a see-through material, only her bra and shorts made of heavy, dark blue cloth, making them almost impossible not to be seen.
There was no doubt that she truly belonged to the celestial beings class. She could've been hundreds, thousands of years old, but she still looked like a fresh nineteen-year-old. And a huge wolf was walking beside her. That wasn't just some big and scary dog, she had a real wolf.
"My sincerest apologies to you, dear mister, for taking too long to have at least someone speaking to you." - You smiled at him, making a quick, sharp noise with your lips only. The beast beside you ran next to Geralt and laid down on a big piece of a mattress covered in thick, very expansive cloth. You laughed when you saw Geralt looking at the wolf listening to you like an obedient lamb.
"What? Don't tell me that you're scared of a little wolf." - Your amused laughter filled the room once again before you poured your guest some wine, giving him the cup.
You were interested in the Witcher because he came to your house from the outside world. For the sake of everything, you didn't know much about him - you only heard some stories and legends about the White Wolf. You had no idea what his name was, how old could he be, if he was in love or not... You just knew that he was the one and only White Wolf.
"I'm more shocked that you're not afraid to stay in one room with something like me." - Geralt smiled and accepted the cup of wine you were giving him. Then you swayed away to a big sofa with crystal details, sitting at the edge of it.
"Something? You forgot that I'm a non-human too. I'm that something you're implying as well." - Your gaze was directed at him before you started to play with the rings on your hands. - "And you don't seem to be utterly stupid - you know that if you try to harm me, the wolf will attack you immediately. It will tear you apart and you're aware of that."
You were truly smart and Geralt was amazed by all of it. He was mesmerized since he never imagined the elder race to... Act and look like that. Geralt heard stories about Hain and the Garden hidden on the Continent, but he never imagined that it will look like that. It was truly a beautiful, sacred place built around an ancient tree that was rumored to give life, the flowers there were ones Geralt has never seen before. You were able to mutate and enhance animals, their abilities and their lifespan. Every elf he had seen was a descendant of the elder race and that could be easily spotted - from the way you behaved to the way you were speaking, acting, dressing up... He had figured out that almost immediately - the descendants of the elder race. Some of Hain were even the ones were who came there at the dawn of the Continent. They were thousands of years old and looked as a normal forty-year-old would.
"So that's the legend going around the Continent, is it? Witchers are utterly stupid creatures." - The White Wolf laughed ironically and sat down with the cup of sweet wine you gave him. He was facing you and you couldn't but wonder with your eyes around his face. Geralt couldn't look away from you as well - smiling lips, beautiful hair and long, elegant ears full of jewelry. If every Hain was as beautiful as you were, this was heaven.
"I have never said that. Only a few stories are going around the Garden about the Witchers." - You shook your head and laughed. - "Just as there are only a few stories about the elder race and the Hain. There are already more similarities between us that I would ever suspect. Interesting."
"I wouldn't say that something like me can be similar to you." - Geralt smiled and took another sip of the wine. It was a good one - your people truly knew how to brew some good alcohol.
"I'm very interested in you, Witcher. But first, tell me this. A little riddle, if you will." - You slowly stood up and walked around the room, pouring yourself some nectar. Then you turned to the White Wolf again, standing in the moonlight. - "How comes that a monster slayer graces the Continent along with a small girl, who also happens to be a Source? How did you come across this girl, White Wolf?"
"Do you have some suspicion? Come on, just tell me. I'm interested in your theories. And don't hold back, I've already heard everything." - The man chuckled at you and you watched as he leaned back on his elbow, looking like million Orens. That man was unbelievable. But very amusing.
"I heard that Witcher abduct little children and take them to their schools to create a new generation. Are you really doing that?" - You wondered and still stood in the moonlight. There, you really looked like an elder. Beautiful skin, endless legs and see-through materials around your body were messed with a wind.
"In fact, all of that was supported by the law of surprise. No Witcher ever raided a village and abducted a child. The Witchers always saved lives from the monsters and for payment, they always asked for a thing the people already had, yet you didn’t know about it." - Geralt implied and sipped the wine again.
"The prize was a child. But tell me, Wolf. Is it better to take a child out of their mother’s loving embrace, letting the women and men live with the feeling that it was all their fault... Or is it better to abduct the children, so at least, the people can spend their life hating the Witchers, but not blaming themselves?" - You asked with a sincere curiousness and moved to the balcony to stand in the warm breeze.
"There was always a life saved and a payment that needed to be paid." - Geralt shrugged his shoulders and smiled, looking into the distance. That smile was not happy at all - it was more embarrassed than amused. - "But that's the past. There's no need for the Witchers and that means that nobody has to train another generation, which results in happy families."
"So, you haven't abducted this girl? Don't tell me that she is your daughter. If so, ashen hair clearly runs in family." - You smiled at him, looking at a few of the noble elves dancing under the moonlight, playing lutes and drinking. There was nothing that could harm them and their passion for life... You loved that place so much.
"She's running from Nilfgaardians, as a lot of other people do these days. She was born in Cintra," - Geralt said, but you snapped at him, silencing him in an instant. For a moment, there was silence before you let out a short breath.
"Are we talking about the daughter of princess Pavetta of Cintra, who was also the daughter of Calanthé of Cintra? Born under the house of Raven?" - You looked at Geralt, slowly approaching the sofa. You surely didn't look like it, but you did in fact panicked.
"Yes. Cintra fell down in flames, but not without a fight. Nilfgaard is controlling the area at the moment." - Wolf stated as a fact, like if you should know about it. - "You elves really sleep on the hottest news, let me tell you."
"Our spy didn't come back from Cintra. We thought that maybe he fell in love or some other nonsense and decided to leave us. I will have to inform my father when we're done." - Your head nodded and slowly, you sat next to the Wolf again.
"When we're done? Is this an interrogation?".- Wolf chuckled. The wine was stronger than it appeared to be from the start.
"Sort of. When I told you that I'm interested in you, I was speaking the truth. You're a long time mystery to me." - You curled your knees under you, leaning down next to almost laid down Geralt.
"We met literally fifteen minutes ago. What's your name? I don't want to call you Miss Elf." - The Wolf chuckled and looked at you, finishing the cup of wine with one long swing.
"Y/N of Hain. And yours, Wolf?" - You smiled at the man, watching the contours of his face you grew to know by heart. Ashen hair of white and silver, golden eyes that sometimes appeared like a cat's eye, sharp lips and a round chin. Just as in your dreams. But... Better. He was a beautiful human being.
"Geralt of Rivia. A pleasure to meet you." - The Witcher took your palm gently and kissed the knuckles as you noticed the swift curling of his nose. Did Geralt of Rivia just smell you? That almost made you giggle.
"We have much to talk about, Geralt of Rivia. But take a rest now, lay down and sleep. I'll find you again when the time's right. And don't worry about Cirilla. Now, when we know who she is, we will do our best to help her." - You gently took the palm our of his, smiling at the man once again. Your wine was really strong after all. Before you left him alone, you called your beast to accompany you once again.
Geralt was left there to wander alone for what seemed to be a few days, but it was really hard to say how long he was in the Garden actually. The people were nice to him, kindly offered him food and drinks, fresh clothes and baths, they talked with him when he wanted to be entertained, but there were no signs of Cirilla the whole time. And even if the people were nice, they still were reserved. And the Garden also didn't have a whorehouse where would Geralt spent the night with the most pleasant relaxation of all.
You found him again that evening when he was watching the sunset, you walked to him dressed in a long robe resembling a negligee.
"And we meet again, Y/N." - Geralt bowed and gave you an amused smile. You chuckled at his acting. He sure seemed healthier and relaxed than when he and Cirilla arrived. Maybe the fact that he had fresh clothes made by your best seamstresses. It sure looked good on him. Again, he took your palm and kissed, more as a form of poking fun at the gentleman-ish behavior than actually meaning it.
But you noticed that he smelled your scent yet again, as he closed his eyes for a second.
"We do. Come now, Witcher, we'll talk." - You waved at him, leading him to one of the bathhouses. When you entered, all of the elves gave you an elegant bow before they helped you with taking the robe off of your body, tugging it down to your ankles. You remained dressed in a one-piece looking like a swimsuit. Then, you ascended into the hot water full of white orchids, humming even you felt your muscles slowly relax.
"So. As I told you, Geralt, so I meant. I'm interested in you." - He earned a smile as he sat on a bench from white stone, watching you in the water. - "You are the pinpoint of my interest at the moment, dear Witcher."
"What makes me so special of all the creatures you can talk to?" - Geralt gave you a smirk, leaning his elbows to his knees. He leaned much closer to you, watching you moving in water, small drops traveling on your shoulders.
"The fact that I'm seeing you in my dreams every night, slaying monsters, drinking alone in inns... Making love to women. All of that is what makes me so drawn to you. I know a lot about you, Geralt of Rivia, more than you'd suspect." - You said and disappeared under the water for a moment to clean your ears and hair. And it was a pleasurable look, when you straightened again, giving Witcher another look.
"Should I be scared or amused? Are you purposely watching me?" - The Witcher smiled at you, watching you put soap on your skin, gently massaging it in. You were pretty. Truly pretty. You wore every small drop like a diamond or a pearl, like one of your best pieces of jewelry. And the wet hair was framing your face and ears just right.
"Neither of those. I think that our minds work in the same radius or something like that. I haven't seen you in my dreams until a night before... Five human years. Something must've clicked inside of you, something had to change." - You said simply, cleaning yourself from the soap as you walked to one of the maids, letting them braid your hair.
"So, you've seen the worst and the best of me, I suppose." - Geralt said jokingly and that was the first time it made you laugh as well. And you were gorgeous. Truly, Geralt couldn't bring himself to look away for a small second.
"Depends on what you think is your worst and what is the best, Geralt. I won't lie, there are things I would like to see with my own eyes." - You answered and your tone sounded darker for a moment. Could that be a sign of affection? Or lust in the better option? When you saw the man flicking tongue over his lower lip, you needed to make the things clearer. - "Like slaying a Kikimora or play those funny cards."
Geralt nodded understandingly, being sure that there was something more in your demand. But you pretended like that haven’t happened at all.
“How did you become a Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, might I ask?” - You stepped out of the water and let the other elves to gently dry your skin with a silk towel.
“Simply. My mother took me to a fortress named Kaer Morhen located in Keadwen. I suspect she has done it since she was tied with Vesemir, that's my mister, by the law of surprise. I've met Vienna since here and there, but we are really nothing more than strangers.” - Geralt answered honestly and you nodded.
“I heard from father’s friend that you are called Gwynbleidd, meaning the White Wolf. Is that true? Also, how can you be a Geralt of Rivia when you were raised in Kaedwen? And turn around, please.” - You asked so many questions and you truly were interested. You wanted to get to know Geralt. You were curious and eager to learn more.
Geralt truly got up and turned around to look outside, his eyes still sneaking to look behind the towel with the mirror on the wall. You weren't exactly stupid, so you moved your lips and snapped. - “You better leave those eyes looking directly in front of you and start answering the questing, Gwynbleidd. Or you know what happens.” - You warned him and the great wolf accompanying you entered the bathroom, looking more like a spa.
“Alright, alright.” - Geralt truly turned away and looked outside once more, letting you have your space, while the wolf sat onto the bench in front of him. - “To answer your first question, yes, that is in fact true. Although I don't hear it that often, some call me Gwynbleidd. And why am I Geralt of Rivia and not Geralt of Keadwen? Well, that is a long story.”
“As my father says, we have eternity to explain and eons to understand. Start talking, Witcher. Don't leave me hanging.” - You turned your head to him briefly, taking a long robe on, covering your whole body with a few layers of clothing.
“Vesemir told us to choose a name when we were in training. The clientele is more likely to believe someone with a surname than someone without it. They believe that we are really hailing to a certain part of the world, which made us seem more... Human. I wished to be Geralt Roger Eric du Haute-Bellegarde, but that didn't exactly make it to the final cut. I chose Rivia, learned how to mimic their accent and I happen to save queen Meve’s army before Nilfgaardians. Geralt of Rivia, the mighty knight, at your service.” - He jokingly bowed to the wolf and for a moment, the animal seemed to be amused with the Witcher.
“That makes a lot of things clearer.” - You walked from behind the towel, the train of your robe was a good few feet behind you. - “Thank you for sharing and being honest with me, Geralt. I appreciate it. Now, excuse me once again, since I have my duties as a Hain and I have to check on Zireael.”
At that moment, Geralt ignored the animal in front of him, turning at you with anticipation. You knew what he is about to ask. You just looked at him and spoke way before he could ask. - “Worry not, Wolf, she is alive and well. I know that it is maybe harsh for you to be without your small girl so long, but she needs space to rest and to regain the containment to posses the elder powers. I swear to you on my life that we mean no harm to the girl and we take care of her as one of our own. Just as we take care of you.”
“I trust you. You are elves descending from the elder blood, after all. When can I see her?” - Geralt asked quietly, leaving the spa by your side. You exhaled slowly.
“Today, actually. There will be a celebration because Hain dynasties take elder blood very, very seriously. There are not a lot of beings who possess the power, not even elvish. Zireael is special.” - You bowed a bit and Geralt did as well, smiling at you lightly before kissing your hand once again - and sniffing it as well. You got a brief feeling that maybe, the Witcher could be somehow attracted to you, or whatever. You want sure since the elves rarely mingled or court shipped each other before they got married.
You looked him in the eyes, leaning your head to your shoulder with a smile. You didn't even realize that you were blushing at that moment, even if you noticed that your heart rate was higher than usual.
“I will find you if you want to accompany me in the evening. Actually, I insist that you will be my company.” - You walked past him, being followed by the Wolf, walking towards one of the buildings, looking like grace itself.
You knew where Cirilla was - you have visited her many times before, just talking to her, learning more about her - that she was an orphan raised by her grandmother, that Geralt of Rivia accidentally called the law of surprise, not knowing that Pavetta is pregnant and why exactly she is escaping the Nilfgaardians. But at the end of the day, she was still only a thirteen-year-old, no matter if she was a princess or a descendant of the elders. You kept her in a spacious room full of various animals she could play with, you kept your eye on her, making her eat, bathe and drink something.
Cirilla, or as you called her, Zireael, didn't exactly adore you, but she developed some kind of relationship towards you. She trusted you since you were a face she seemed often. She kept asking about Geralt, but you succeeded to calm her down, telling her that her dear Witcher is still inside the walls of the Garden, waiting for her to take her time.
You found her petting one of wolf cubs, playing with it. She immediately acknowledged your presence and smiled at you, having the cub laid down on her lap.
“How are you feeling today? Are you better?” - You sat on the sofa, watching Zireael sitting on the ground. She nodded and exhaled. - “Less tired for sure. But I'm starting to get bored, being locked all day in here. No offense to your hospitality, but I don't find funny doing the same things over and over again.”
At least, she was honest. You chuckled and nodded at her. For some, it was boring - but since you lived for eons, you already have found your system and things to spend the endless life with. Elves were just different than humans.
“And no offense taken. You will be fine in no time at all, that’s what I can promise, Zireael. But I want to talk with you today. It is important.” - You patted on the seat beside. As you usually did, Ciri turned her back at you so you could braid her ashen hair with complex elvish hairstyles, braiding in jewelry. - “Tell me now, what do you know about your powers?”
“That I can't contain them. That chaos... It is too strong for me. I don't know how to control it, I don't know when the powers show themselves again. They are too much for me and I can do multiple things. Like, I can scream funny.” - She answered and you giggled at that. You liked the way she talked to you - you could feel how young she actually is.
“You, my dear Shallow, are a Source. Before you ask, let me explain.” - You calmed her down, feeling the incoming questions in the air. Cirilla nodded and you put another strand of hair on its place.
“A Source is someone who was born with strong magical abilities, not like the ones sorceresses have. Our chaos, mine and yours, is different than theirs. It comes from the power of the elder ones and their blood. Your powers can be contained only with will and training, but it is possible. Remember that understanding comes with time and that you can't rush it. Try to use the powers with your will and just concentrate on that. Give it the time. Neither I learned everything about my abilities, not just yet.” - You calmed her down, smoothing a trail over the back of her neck. - “Remember that you the more you will be in stress, the more powerful the chaos inside of you gets. It is yet to be determined how many abilities you will possess, but I am very curious about that. Also, I have a question. Have you found the Garden?” - You asked silently, finishing the braid with a gentle, yet masterful knot.
Ciri got quiet for a while before she shook her head. You thaught all the time that Ciri found the Garden since she was of elder blood. But this obviously wasn't the case. - “Then how did you got in?”
“Geralt led the way since I passed out at the moment we entered a small village. I don't know how he did it, he just told me that he... He had a feeling. Something inside was leading him until he passed the magical barrier. That was the moment I woke up and saw about twenty elves in a beautiful dress standing in front of us alongside two soldiers. They were clearly surprised.” - Ciri told you and to you, it sounded like she was telling the truth.
So it wasn't her and her elder abilities. Your suspicion clearly failed. Was there a possibility that the connection could be present on both sides? Could Geralt feel that you are somewhere out there as well? Was your connection made by destiny supposed to save Ciri?
“All right. That makes sense.” - You patted her shoulder and tried to look cool looking her in the face. - “You look very pretty, princess of Cintra. Now, you will come with me and together, we will prepare for a celebration.”
As you told Ciri, you took her to your chambers where she had her dress prepared as well - your robe was rather extravagant, made in light blue with sparkly stones holding on your breast, worn with an elegant robe in the color of lilacs. Cirilla was dressed in the color of gold made precisely on her tiny figure.
“You look like an angel.” - She whispered when you came from the bedroom with new jewelry around your neck, fingers, and ears. You chuckled and shook your head, nodding at Ciri to get to your side. - “Is the gentleman ready?” - You asked your maid who was supposed to monitor Geralt while he had to clean up and dress up for the occasion as well.
“Yes, Hain, the gentleman is ready and awaiting you.” - The elf bowed to you and you did as well, Ciri repeating your actions as well. You lend her a few pieces of your jewelry and she truly looked like she has something in common with the elves.
When she saw Geralt, it felt like a heavyweight was lifted off her shoulders. She almost started to cry when she ran down the rest of the stairs down to hug him tightly, burying her face in his chest. You didn't smile at the sight, neither you actually looked at them, you just felt happy inside. Geralt exhaled loudly and his eyes closed with the sudden calmness that washed all over him and his soul. Cirilla looked alive and well, just as you promised.
And you looked just like a masterpiece. When Geralt finally let the girl out of his arms and his look landed you, he actually stopped thinking for a moment. Your scent got into his nose again and occupied his mind, just as it always did. Usually, when he kissed your hand, he tried to get the most essence directly from your skin, but you just smelled wonderful.
He also thought about the same thing as you did - if he found the Garden on his own, could you be the beacon that led him there? Were you sending signals that begged for salvation and deliverance? Was it even possible? It could be since destiny proved you that you and Geralt will meet and cross paths one day. But you were slowly possessing his mind. Only one woman could do that, but she was far gone and forsaken the Witcher, probably for good that time.
As always, he slowly bowed before he approached you, this time, he was very cautious with the bow, looking you in the eyes the whole time. Then his palm caught yours and kissed your knuckles full of jewelry, just as his lips always did. Ciri was looking at you with interest in her eyes, watching both you and Geralt.
She heard him talking about some sorceress named Yennefer who fought in the battle of Sodden and when Cirilla and Geralt visited Sodden, there was a stone obelisk including two big names - Yennefer of Vengenberg and Triss Merigold. Ciri understood that Yennefer is the one who Geralt was searching for - seeing him eyeing someone else was gross, but it made her smile.
You looked at Geralt when he offered his elbow to entwine with, and you were completely confused. Of course, you were a high elf - you didn't walk around like normal beings did. You raised your hand to the air, in the middle of you and Geralt, waiting for his palm to support yours. It looked awfully similar to a wedding march, but Geralt shut his mouth and lead you to the greatest hall in the Gardens, just in the middle of a great elvish feast.
Elvish feasts, unlike any others, were pretty calm and always light-hearted events full of the best food, lutes playing, socially acceptable dancing and never anything going wrong - any fistfights, any arguments. You led both Geralt and Ciri to the head of a long table, to sit alongside the Hain as guests of honor.
And to be honest, the celebration was enjoyable for both Cirilla and Geralt. They were mesmerized with old elvish tales sang in the old language of elves. And the food was just out of the world - there were salads, sweet treats, meat served in a style that Geralt has never seen ever before, various fruits and uncommon vegetables. The light was slowly going out and you couldn't but notice that the Witcher disappeared, since he was no longer sitting next to you. You formally excused yourself and went to search for the lost guest.
You found him after a while - he was alone, sitting on a bench in the gardens on the east, watching the sun slowly setting down behind the horizon, making the sky around it pink. It was a beautiful sight and sometimes, you watched it as well.
“Are you not amused by the feast, Wolf?” - You asked and sat beside him, watching the sunset as well.
“it’s not like that. I know you don't want us here, but you showed us a warm embrace and that is something I can appreciate.” - Geralt told you and turned his look you. You smiled, playing with your jewelry again.
“We would never eject guests who found the way into the Garden on their own. Even more fascinating is that you overcame the magic on your own. All respect to you for that.” - You answered honestly and Geralt smirked as well.
“Sunsets are just a sight, aren't they?” - Geralt asked simply, silenced for a moment and then spoke again. - “For many people, it is the sign that the day has ended and another one is coming, but not for Witchers. For me, it means a small moment of complete peace with the world, where monsters don't exist and can't attack me or anyone else. I guess that I am a sunset lover.”
You tried your best to understand, but you weren't a witcher and you never met any beast. You never left the Garden. It was like a utopian city hidden in the world of chaos - perfect, yet stereotypical. You never tasted the thrill of adventure, the feeling of fear when you would be fighting for your life.
“I know you cant understand. That's fine. Don't worry about it. Soon, we’ll disappear and everything will be all right again.” - Geralt brushed off with a hurting tone. You took a small breath in and didn't know what to answer to that man. So you shut up and let him talk.
“I have lived enough to taste every feeling - loss, happiness, something like love and physical lust, sadness, fear. But I never felt anything like this. Destiny knew that we’ll meet and bonded us together.” - Geralt furrowed and looked away from you. - “But I think that was just a joke that was told one time and it's not funny anymore.”
“What kind of joke?” - You whispered back, feeling new feelings and emotions awakening inside of you. You felt many things throughout the eons you’ve lived for - you’ve felt delighted, happy, sad, nostalgic, melancholic, but you never felt the thing you were feeling at that moment.
“Destiny bonded me with a woman who is beautiful, mysterious and charming. I never talk this much with anyone, but when you’re around, I can't bring myself to shut up. Somehow, you confuse me and interest me without doing absolutely nothing more than asking questions.” - Geralt looked away and exhaled loudly. There was a prolonged silence as you tried to contain the emotions and brought yourself back together - but your cheeks were almost burning, your heart rate was off the charts, making you deaf for long seconds and your eyes hung on every single word he said.
“The beauty is just a mask I’m wearing, Geralt of Rivia. Everyone here is just as beautiful as I am, but what are we inside? Have you thought of that? We just live from one day to another, we do the same things every day since we grow up and we insert ourselves into the politics of men, which shouldn’t our concern at all. One day, even I will get old and die, but that is eons, eons away. You have a real life. I just exist. It was a cruel move from destiny to bring such an interesting man my way and I’m not sure if I will ever get back to my normal life or if I will be anticipating every night just to see you in my dreams.” - You answered with a shaky tone, then you stood up and walked onto a terrace above the sea to take a few breaths in, just watching the sunset.
“Is everything alright?” - Geralt asked quietly after a while, following you onto the terrace.
“I'm just confused. I feel my heart pounding and I'm short with the breath, my head is spinning... I never felt that before. What does it mean?” - You asked back without looking at him.
“That means you're alive. For the first time in your life.” - Geralt stood up next to you, moving his left palm so close that your fingers almost brushed. - “Nothing is better than that.”
And then he slipped his hand to cover yours and your gaze just stuck at the place where your bodies were touching. He felt warm. His palms were completely dry. And his touch was gentle, so much, that you had goosebumps just as you normally did when you were cold, which didn't happen often.
“Can you show me more of what it means to be alive?” - You whispered to him, taking another shaky breath in when his hand moved onto your shoulder, as it made its way to the back of your neck.
You got very nervous when he moved his body closer, pressing you onto him, holding the back of your neck. You felt like fainting and you barely stood on your legs. It was a warm touch, the gentlest one which felt like tightest. But you didn't want him to let you go. For some reason, his eyes were flickering between your wide opened eyes and lips.
When your lips finally touched, it felt like electricity going through your veins and your whole body, making you stiff from your head to your toes. It felt like heaven. And you would never say that someone else can have a taste - and Geralt tasted sweet with small remains of chocolate.
You didn't even know that you stood there until the moon rose into the sky, stars shining down. First, you were scared to even move. After a while, you tried some things and in the end, you knew perfectly what you were doing. You hand roamed Wolf’s body on its own as you instinctively tried to feel more of your body.
Gael was right when she predicted that the man in your dreams will mean a catastrophe for you. You have sinned, maybe even unaware. But you finally felt alive.
And nothing felt better than that.

231. Sonic the Hedgehog #163
The Darkest Storm (Part Two): Onset of the Squall
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: James Fry Colors: Jason Jensen
So Mammoth Mogul is back. Not only that, he's not restrained by any more Ancient Walker curses, given that the Ancient Walkers are now super dead. The Freedom Fighters, Merlin, and Sir Connery surge forward immediately to attack, but Mogul releases a concentrated blast that knocks half of them out, including Elias, from whom he takes the Crown of Acorns without a word. Meanwhile in New Megaopolis, Eggman is trying to ascertain if the Egg Grapes have been shut down successfully, unaware that Anonymous has used the breach of dimensions to release another key player into all the chaos.
Ugh, not Naugus again! I gotta say, he's one of my least favorite villains in the comics. M tries to zap him, but, quickly figuring out she's a robot, Naugus freezes her in place with his elemental magic. He informs Eggman that he intends to come back to kill him eventually, but first, he plans to reunite the Sword of Acorns, which the children of Uma Arachnis have so graciously given him, with its counterpart back at Knothole, teleporting away in a flash. But, hey, listen. No one, in all this, ever thinks of the poor folks stuck in jail cells while all the fighting is going on outside. Let's check on Knothole's prisoners, shall we?
Oop! Things just got a lot crazier. Naugus and Mogul are ready to go at each other, and the Freedom Fighters and their allies get ready to attack the both of them, wanting to get both the sword and the crown back on principle now despite no longer being able to use them to save the Ancient Walkers. Nack, after picking his jaw up off the floor, realizes that this is his chance to escape prison when no one else is looking, and easily squeezes through the bars of his cell. Man, whoever built Knothole Prison is so fired. Nack says that on his way out he plans to "hit the kitchen" and leave his previous weasel allies (from the Sally kidnapping plot) a "gift," which is pretty vague and doesn't seem to mean much until you learn that Ian's intention with this line was to imply that he straight up murders the other weasels during his escape. That's right, kills 'em in cold blood! I don't know what he needed to get from the kitchen to carry out this murder - knives? a heavy pan? a makeshift bomb hastily assembled from a pressure cooker? - but yeah, the guards definitely came back to their posts later on to find three dead-ass weasels lying in pools of their own blood inside the cell. That's… actually super messed up, man. I can see why Ian wanted to leave that line vague.
While the battle rages on in Knothole, with Naugus and Mogul fighting each other while the Freedom Fighters contend with the Destructix, A.D.A.M. lets Eggman know that he's managed to find out who's behind the dimensional breach in his Egg Grape Chamber - Anonymous, of course. But that's not all! Though he still doesn't know Anonymous' true identity, he's found out that none other than M has been collaborating with him! M stutters and tries to deny it, but A.D.A.M. plays a recording of her conspiring with Anonymous - whose form is blanked out on the video, as before, though it does bear a strange resemblance in shape to the original Robotnik - to destroy Eggman and rule in his stead.
I'm actually kinda sad to see her go. I always kind of liked M as a character, and apparently so did Ian, but Sega forced him to kill her off. It's actually kind of interesting, though, how actually upset Eggman is about all this. I mean, his words ring a little hollow when he's just brought Snively back as his henchman once more, but like, he did literally consider M to be his daughter, if only a twisted facsimile of one. You can tell ordering her to self-destruct actually hurt him on a personal level. As A.D.A.M. sends a cleaning bot to burn M's remains, Eggman mutters to himself Deku-style, thinking through how Naugus seems to have his powers boosted by using the Sword of Acorns. He reasons that if he gets the crown as well he could be a genuine threat, and decides he must go to Knothole and stop him, coming up with a mysterious "contingency plan" at the end of this train of thought…
As Naugus and Mogul continue to magically battle it out, we get our first inkling of the fact that "Ixis" isn't actually a first name. In fact, it's a title - denoting someone who's mastered the "Ixian" magicks of this world. Naugus gloats that he's perfected these magicks with his crystalline powers, but Mogul does the verbose and villainous equivalent of chuckling and saying "cute," claiming to be even more well-versed in Ixian magicks. While the two are distracted with their fighting, Merlin and Sir Connery leap in to try to grab at least one of the Source of All artifacts, but the two see their attack coming and fling them away, with Sonic and Knuckles having to jump in to catch them. However, when they return to earth they find a stunned Naugus questioning Mogul on his claims of knowing Ixian magicks. Mogul smugly explains that thousands of years ago, he studied and perfected magic, eventually founding an order of fellow magicians who followed his teachings. They were all wiped out a very long time ago in a forgotten war against the "Albion Knights of Aurora," but Mogul himself survived, and now informs Naugus of his true name, long since forgotten - Ixis Mogul.
Well, this whole situation just got a lot worse…
Sonic Riders (Part 1 of 2)
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: Tracy Yardley Colors: Josh & Aimee Ray
Already we've come to another one of those weird not-adaptions, this time for Sonic Riders. Unlike the Sonic Rush "adaption," however, this one doesn't have anything even slightly to do with the events of the game - literally the only correlation is the Babylon Rogues and the Extreme Gear being there, and the latter isn't even called Extreme Gear. Jet the Hawk attempts to steal a mechanical part from Eggman's base, but is easily captured by his Egg Pawns and brought back to a cell. Eggman deduces that Jet was planning to use the part to upgrade his board, and Jet replies that things have been hard for him since he left "the Armada" (remember that name for later). Eggman, however, is less upset about Jet's attempted theft than he is impressed that he was traveling as quickly as Sonic on his board, and offers him a deal - namely, that if he goes after Sonic and gives him hell, he'll let him go and forgive the theft. Of course, Jet being the arrogant brat he is, agrees, eager to prove to Sonic that he is in fact the fastest thing alive, and hoping to bring along some friends to help him demonstrate this…
The next day, Sonic is running through the forest after the Freedom Fighters' sensors picked up the approach of intruders, and runs straight into Jet, along with Wave the Swallow and Storm the Albatross. When Jet mockingly shows off how fast he is on his board, and states that he plans to go trash Knothole, Sonic follows, attempting to fight the three of them. However, despite his speed and fighting prowess, he's simply no match for three speedy foes.
Keep in mind, the game is about Sonic entering an Extreme Gear contest run by Eggman for Chaos Emeralds, and competing against these three along the way. It's a racing game, after all. I realize that given how different this world is something like that can't really easily be replicated, but still, this is vastly different from the game - so different that it feels weird even giving it the name of Sonic Riders. That said, I do appreciate how the art style for this two-parter replicates the unique style of Sonic Riders' art, foregoing traditional shading and inking in favor of the games' trademark diagonal shading and flatter colors. It’s a really cool art style, and interesting to see it integrated into the comic, if only for a couple stories.

Merry Christmas, @thisnewjoe!
*****
Feel The Magic
Derek is chained to the wall. The rough edges of the bricks dig into his bare back. Not that it matters, his skin is cut up and oozing blood and has been for God knows how long now. A little extra pain is inconsequential at this point and he barely registers it anymore.
The witch is pacing around in front of him. He doesn’t think of her like that because of her personality (he could use a lot more choice words if that were the case), it’s because she’s an actual witch. Spells, incantations, the whole shebang. Before her appearance in town and his subsequent kidnapping, Derek didn’t know the witch trope was so blatantly true. He always assumed that magic in the world was more subtle. At least, that’s how it has always been… until now.
“Just tell me where they areeeee,” she whines, her voice twinged with immaturity and impatience.
Derek spits blood at her feet. “Eat shit.”
The witch raises her hand and clenches her fingers in response. Derek feels a twisting sensation in his chest, a gurgling sound escaping his lips as more of his blood is displaced inside his body. She waits a few moments, watching him suffer, before finally releasing him from the pain. Derek’s body falls slack against the wall.
“It doesn’t have to be like this.” She leans in so close; her breath is hot against his ear. “Just tell me where they are, and I’ll leave you be.”
He almost believes her.
“That’s… a lie, and we both… know it,” he mumbles. It takes a lot of energy. Her torture is taking a lot out of him.
“Maybe, but the only way to find out is to give me what I want!” She clenches her fingers again and Derek lets out a guttural scream as the pain washes over him once more. This time, it’s blinding. Every nerve in his body is on fire. He sees white, and the sound of his own fading screams carry him into unconsciousness.
—
The book in Stiles’s lap is large. Impossibly large. The words blur in front of him, his eyes struggling to focus. He’s been reading for what feels like forever, his mind trying it’s hardest to focus but ultimately too distracted by the situation at hand. Every muscle in his body wants to run out and find whoever did this, whoever took Derek… but logic (and Lydia) are right. They need to be prepared, and that means Stiles needs to go into this with some new tricks. Unfortunately his brain isn’t cooperating, and he’s tired of making it try.
“Okay!” He exclaims, shutting the book closed with a loud clap. “I think I’ve got this as down as I’m gonna. I could probably get Derek back by myself even.”
“Don’t be stupid.” Scott replies from the other side of the table. He’s been itching to go for a while now too, but forced to play practical leader. He sided with Lydia when she insisted they hold back to figure out a strategy before running in all-guns blazing.
This strategy, of course, turned out to be Stiles and his magical abilities.
“This is Derek we’re talking about!” Stiles stands up, shifting his weight anxiously from foot to foot. “We need him back, we can’t live without him."
Scott and Lydia share a look that Stiles can’t read.
"I just mean,” Stiles continues, clearing his throat. “That he’s a part of this pack now and we don’t know what’s happening to him. We need to get him back. Now.”
"And we will, man, don’t worry.” Scott walks over and puts a hand on Stiles’s shoulder. It’s meant to be reassuring, but it doesn’t help much.
How can I not? Stiles thinks to himself. We don’t know who or what has him… and we might already be too late...
Over the last year, Stiles has been studying an ancient book, the same book he was reading just minutes ago. He’s been learning how to harness the natural magics of the world to do his bidding. It sounds so dramatic, but that’s how it is. Ever since the pack faced a group of magic-toting Druids last Christmas, he’s been going over their book, learning their tactics and spells. He may not be a werewolf or a banshee, but he’ll be damned if he can’t bring something to the table that helps his friends.
It’s also not something he’s shared beyond Scott and Lydia (and Derek, one night when the two of them were alone and shared a deep conversation full of truths and secrets that neither has addressed since). He didn’t want to go public with this new skill to the rest of the pack until he was sure he could control it. But now someone has Derek and he has no choice.
“We need to go. I’m not going to glean anything new from these books in the next hour that I don’t already know, and Derek could be… he could be already…” Stiles pauses. He’s unable to say it out loud. “We’re wasting time.”
Before they can respond, Stiles turns and walks toward the door, knowing they’ll follow after him.
—
The pack arrives at an empty apartment building. It’s condemned, and a little on the nose as far as Stiles is concerned.
"Okay, we can’t just barge in,” Scott whispers. “We don’t want to rain hell down all at once and force their hand, not while they have Derek.”
“Is it just the one in there?” Lydia asks.
Scott takes a large sniff of the air and nods. “Yeah, I only got one scent, but if they were powerful enough to take Derek down then we need to be careful.”
Just then, Derek screams. His voice is haggard and cuts through the air. It’s not loud enough to alert anyone who might be nearby, but to a group of supernaturals, it’s piercing.
Stiles raises his hand and the front doors of the building explode inward. He strides forward without a second thought, too fast and determined to be stopped by Stiles or Lydia, who are still standing in place, mouths agape.
Door after door flies open as Stiles storms down the hallway. He won’t stop until he finds the one that has Derek behind it. Finally, the last one bursts open, and he’s found his target. The witch turns, raising her hand. A wave of energy moves Stiles’s way, but he raises his own hand in return and the wall of energy parts around him and slams into the wall. The room shudders, dust and plaster falling to the floor from the rickety ceiling above them.
Behind her, Derek hangs limply. His arms are chained above his head and his sweat-soaked hair covers his eyes. The scarlet color of his blood will haunt Stiles for the rest of his life. Seeing Derek like that… seeing him dead… something inside of Stiles breaks. It breaks more than Stiles ever thought a part of him could break. An angry sob threatens to bubble out of his throat, but he holds it back. He doesn’t think about anything else—definitely not the fact that this is the first magic user aside from himself that he’s run into since the druid attack—all he can focus on is taking the bitch down.
Stiles extends his hand and a ball of fire blasts out from his palm, straight toward the witch. She ducks, rolling out of the way at the last moment. The fire slams into the wall beside Derek, jerking him awake.
Awake. He’s not dead.
Stiles doesn’t have time to feel any relief, because the witch is already clenching her fingers closed. A sharp jolt of pain explodes in Stiles’s chest, causing him to lose his breath. He gasps, struggling to stay standing. It hurts… it hurts so fucking bad. It’s like his ribs are being peeled apart.
”So… you’re the magic-user in town,” the witch smirks, climbing to her feet. She has the upper hand again and is relishing in that fact. “Here to save your friend. How quaint. Just when I thought—”
Scott bursts into the room, growling loudly as he shifts into his werewolf face. The witch gasps, losing control of her spell and setting Stiles free from it’s hold. Clearly she’s never seen a werewolf before, let alone thought one was here in town. Lydia comes up beside them too.
”Cover your ears.” She says quickly, and then screams.
The witch is thrown backward, slamming into the wall beside Derek.
She growls. ”You have no idea who you’re—”
Stiles lifts his hand and jerks it in a circular motion. The witch’s neck snaps. Her body falls to the cold, hard ground.
Stiles runs over and manages to unchain Derek from the wall using a small bit of magic. He falls into Stiles’s arms, unable to hold himself up on his own. Stiles slowly lowers himself to the floor so Derek is laying in his lap.
“I thought she killed you…” Stiles whispers, rubbing his thumb along Derek’s forehead.
“She was going to,” Derek replies before breaking into a stream of coughs. A little bit of blood drips out of his mouth and leaks down his chin.
Tears prick at the corners of Stiles’s eyes. “Oh, fuck… why didn’t you just give her what she wanted?”
“Because she wanted you.”
Derek looks up at Stiles for the first time. His eyes are tired, rimmed in darkness and bloodshot. He looks like hell and feels like it too. Stiles smiles, just so happy that Derek’s alive. He’s fucked up, but he’s alive. That’s all that matters.
”You’re an idiot,” Stiles whispers, wiping the blood of Derek’s chin with his sleeve.
”I know.”
They smile at each other… and then they kiss. They’re not really sure who started it. Maybe they both did. Their lips touch, and it’s everything they’ve both wanted for so long but never admitted, not even to themselves.
Scott coughs. Lydia subtly slips him a tenner.
Stiles and Derek break apart, misty-eyed and dazed. They’d clearly forgotten they weren’t alone.
Scott walks over and lifts Derek’s arm around his shoulder.
”Come on, you two, let’s get out of here.”
—
“She wanted me, Scott.” Stiles says, his hand entwined with Derek’s as he sleeps on the bed next to Stiles’s chair. “She came here looking for me because I can use magic. I only wanted to be able to help you guys, and now there’s probably lots of witches out there gunning for my head.”
“This isn’t your fault,” Scott replies.
“I know… but Derek got hurt because of all this magic stuff. Maybe it’s not worth it. I couldn’t live if you were taken next, or Lydia… my dad, or anyone.”
Scott thinks about what happened. He can’t get the image of Stiles snapping that witch’s neck without a second thought. Sure, she was trying to kill them all, but he did it so easily. He can’t help but wonder if Stiles is right and that maybe magic isn’t worth it, no matter how useful it can be. Would the Stiles from last year have been so cavalier about ending an enemy’s life? Yes, Derek was in danger, but he’s still not sure… maybe magic changes too much.
“Just focus on being here for Derek. We’ll deal with the rest later.”
Stiles looks at Derek. He’s so peaceful when he sleeps. The hard lines of his face are relaxed, the usual sharpness softened by his ordeal. He’s already healing. Stiles loves him so much, and he can’t believe it took a kidnapping and magical fight to make him finally admit that to himself.
He squeezes Derek’s hand.
Derek squeezes back, and smiles in his sleep.

Bucci Gang Fantasy! Headcanons
Abbachio - Arbiter
Arbiters balance in a world between life and death, never fully alive or dead. Void of any emotion, the arbiter's job is to judge the lives of the dead to determine whether they are worthy of reincarnation. Souls not worthy are sent to a sort of purgatory to wander forever incomplete.
Abbacchio takes his job very seriously. He makes no mistakes in the name of the greater good and is considered one of the top arbiters in the business.
He often feels disconnected from his clients, he is sent the worst of the world to unleash judgment upon. How could he sympathize with such evil, pitiful creatures? That was until you came along, disrupting his work as always.
You were a new arbiter working under him to get into the dirtiest part of the job. Though you had specifically requested for the worst part of the department, you always had a smile and an unusually happy air about you. Your presence was almost completely intruding to Abbacchio, but soon he grew to like hearing laughter after millennia of screams and pleads of the damned.
You worked together until that fateful day, the day you had come to a disagreement.
The client was a young woman, not too far from your age. She had murder written all over her tape but reading into the thick of her personality you found that she had taken the life of a doctor that had sexually abused her daughter. Abbacchio wanted to damn her for her crimes because the doctor was very esteemed and had plenty of miracle procedures that saved tons of lives, but you knew she was just in her actions. After an argument, Abbacchio had the final say in damning her not to purgatory, but to hell.
After that day you could never forgive him, and now he works alone in his suffocating walls drenched in death, with no laughter to hear. For all eternity.
Bruno - Seraphim
Seraphim are the highest order of Angels, the ones closest to the Throne of God. They spend most of their day signing in the choir to honor his radiance. They are beings that give their hearts completely to God.
Bruno always struggled with this, It was in his divine blood that he loves God with all his heart for that was the true path of radiance, His God could never lead him astray. But in his heart, he felt that there was room for someone else.
You were of the lowest order of Angels. The closest divine being to that of humans. Rank or no rank, you were one of the most beautiful beings Bruno had ever laid eyes on. He’d see you fluttering in your own dreams outside the Throne room window, and now every day he sings louder in hopes you’ll hear his voice and the love it held for you from afar. And one day, you noticed.
You fluttered over to one of the open windows and leaned against the pane as you listened to the especially beautiful performance the choir was putting on. You briefly met eyes with Bruno but once you did, you knew the source of the emotion behind the choir was coming from him. You blushed and listened as his voice drifted you to an unknown place of complete serenity, even more so than the Heaven you call home.
You started meeting every night at a tree near your home. He would sing to you while you lay in his lap and dream. When he asked you what you dreamed about, he was surprised to hear that most of your dreams revolved around the human you were assigned to guide. You had been intrigued by her recent developments in love. ‘Love’ is a completely human concept so the idea infatuated both you and Bruno, and you wanted to try out this ‘love’ thing with him.
But Angels are beings created with pure reason. Love comes from the monster tendencies of desire deep within the human psyche. It was what separated the divine from the mundane.
People had noticed the relationship between the Seraphim and the lowly Angel and talk was getting around. Soon word had reached the ears of the absolute God that one of his Seraphim had become tainted with human ideals brought to him by a guardian angel. Both you and Bruno were brought before God for a fair trial. Bruno begged that your life in heaven be spared. He said that he was the one tainted, not the angel called you.
In the end, there was no hope for either of you. God deemed that you both be cast out of Heaven. You were both Fallen Angels now. God had spared Bruno by allowing him to stay by your side as you fell for an eternity. And now you are in each other's arms forever, falling into an abyss but still falling together.
Fugo - Wendigo (fairy/ human) Mage
A/n: Fugo’s race intentionally left sorta ambiguous and confusing because the creature he is based on is also sorta ambiguous and confusing. Fugo is based on Elias Ainsworth from a great anime/manga called The Ancient Magus’ Bride.
Fugo has never met another of his kind and that is because his very existence was an abomination. He wasn’t sure what he was, even after talking to the Fairy King who had an expansive knowledge of the world and its creatures, he still had no clue. Fugo had just popped into existence, he had no memory of who he was or where he came from, all he knew was that he needed to FEED.
After centuries of walking the earth alone, he found a nice groove to settle in and called it home. Now Fugo spends his days learning about the magic the world kept a secret. He was lonely, but content in his world of books. But soon, his life would change forever.
You had been a wandering magician in search of knowledge from the ancient world. You had only ever heard of Fugo from the priests of the local village. Since he was of good temperament (most times) you made the daring decision to knock on the fairy-human hybrids home and offered him something he could never turn down.
You had seen his kind before and so in exchange for copies of his expansive scrolls detailing spells long forgotten, you told him about his race and just how cursed the poor boy was.
He invited you to stay in his home where you would copy the scrolls you wanted/needed together while telling him stories of the only other Wendigo you had met. Fugo only noticed he started falling for you after he found himself staring a little too long at your sleeping form near the desk. You had spent all night and day copying scrolls so you could be out of his hair quickly. but Fugo found himself wanting you to stay.
It was then he made his desperate attempt to cross that barrier. He wanted to court you, make you his wife. But there was one fatal difference between the two of you that made you reluctant: He was immortal.
On the day you finished copying scrolls, he decided to light the scrolls on fire in front of you and declare his burning desire for you. You had been mad, you spent hours copying those damned scrolls! But once he asked for your hand in marriage with an offer of access to libraries that were now yours to keep and explore, you couldn’t turn him down. You were in love with the ancient mage and you weren’t gonna let some silly immortality stop you from loving him for the rest of your life.
So you lived together in the grove for the rest of your existence. You quickly grew old in front of Fugo’s eyes, but he wouldn’t trade you for the world. You spent every breath by Fugo’s side. And after you died, he took no other wife for he knew nobody could truly love an abomination like him but you.
Giorno - Fairy King
The Fairy King is considered one of the most ancient beings to have walked this earth. He is able to cross the boundary between the human realm and the fairy realm. He is tasked with protecting all Fae and the forests of the human realm. But lately, it seemed the humans had been forgetting about his existence and were threatening the forests of the world.
Giorno was a free spirit in the land of the Fae. He often held parties where fae would dance for years, and the wine was the best across all dimensions! He was proud of his kingdom and it’s people, but something always bothered him in the back of his mind, and that was the existence of humans and their wasteful, destructive tendencies.
One day when he was wandering the wood that protected the portal between the human and fairy realm, he stumbled upon a crying girl. He didn’t want to comfort her because she probably was just as destructive as every other human, but he couldn’t get the sounds of her crying to leave his mind. The poor girl hadn’t done anything wrong to him or his forests, so why should he rob her of his goodwill?
So he sat next to her, after applying a glamour of course! He sat next to her and reluctantly pushed her tiny human head onto his shoulder, so she knew she wasn’t alone. She turned to look up to the King and Giorno found himself blushing at her beauty. It was unparalleled to any fairy or human he had ever seen. The girl seemed to glow with Mother Nature’s blessing. Finally, he asked her what had her crying, and she told him.
“Humans are vile, evil little things. They do nothing but destroy the lives of the weak. I wish I could leave this place, there is nothing here for me Mr. Fairy boy.”
He was surprised that you had seen through his glamour. Humans had long since forgotten the art of magic so how could she tell he was using a glamour as a fairy? That was the first and last time you had seen each other for a while, but before you left you had promised him that you would thank him for his kindness. Giorno didn’t know what that meant, but he waited every day for the troubled girl to return to the forest.
Then one day, he felt her presence enter the trees, so he quickly exited the portal to meet her in the wood. The troubled girl was older now, she had a fuller body and eyes that were determined to achieve something. When he asked how she had been, she replied with a simple “I’m ready to leave my human life behind.” Which shocked Giorno. She handed him a paper and from reading it he gathered that she had spent a lot of money on buying the plot of land this forest rested on. Nobody was ever going to hurt it, she assured him.
Giorno had taken her right then, a human with a heart huge enough to work her entire life to buy just this one forest? Did she not know there were plenty of others? Either way, he found it cute. He allowed you to walk into the fairy world where you soon married him and became his Queen. After eating fairy food and drinking the fine wine and dancing for years with Giorno, you had become a fairy. You settled down, had fairy children, and now you spend the rest of your immortality together, frolicking in the forest you purchased when you were human.
Mista - Ifrit
The Ifrit are evil spirits close to the likes of a demon, but not all Ifrit are evil. Some Ifrit are just trying to make a goddamn living following the orders of whoever was above them. That was the case of Guido Mista, a benevolent Ifrit who just wants a simple life but is in a current money crisis.
Ifrit can be summoned, similar to demons, so they kinda just take turns being summoned by kids with Ouija boards and fuck around with them. Well, most Ifrit terrorize the kids for their mistake but Guido Mista just likes to fuck with them.
This was Mista’s 100th time being summoned so he was very excited to see the lucky human he would get to play pranks on. Then he ran into you, who made his life a living hell sometimes. He felt like you were more fit for the role of Ifrit than he ever was!
You summoned him once and scared him away with your obsession of evil artifacts and such that he was sure were just rumors spread by other assholes to make the humans fear them more. But you somehow figured out a way to summon him again and now you were basically his only client.
He grew to really adore you though. He liked the fact that a human could be so brave and evil, he found it extremely attractive how you would dare hit him for staring at your chest too long. He never did anything back though because he knew humans were fragile and he didn’t want to hurt you.
One day, you approached him with a...what is this a love note? You confessed that you had been slowly falling in love with him, even though he was your only friend and you didn’t really know what love meant. All you knew was that you really liked having the Ifrit around and you didn’t want him to leave anytime soon. Mista was ecstatic to hear this because he had returned the sentiments. Yeah, you were very weird for a human, but he came to like that the most about you. He didn’t care that your lives would be a bit unconventional (It’s not like he gets to meet your parents because the horns would probably be a major distraction) but he didn’t mind as long as you didn’t.
So now you guys live together like a typical husband-wife scenario except your husband was a demon and your life seemed to be turning into a strange slice-of-life anime.
P.S: When you tell Mista you’re pregnant and find out the Baby is due on April 4th, he is thoroughly convinced that he just fathered the anti-christ.
Narancia - Nine tales
Nine-tailed foxes are well known to take the form of beautiful women in order to seduce men to eat them. But Narancia doesn’t really like the way human bones poke at his jaws whenever he finds prey to feed on, so he settles with non-human substitutes like rabbits or cows. They were easy to catch anyway.
You were a Nine-Tails too, so you found Narancia’s habit of not eating humans very peculiar. You had been friends for a while, and you couldn’t say you spent most of your time with anyone else but Narancia, and that was because you were an outcast.
Outcast are virtually invisible to other Nine-tailed foxes. They liked to treat you like you weren’t even there so hardly anybody spoke to you. Whenever you were hunting, other foxes would be quick to point out your true nature to your prey, leaving you without food for the week. To them, you were better off dead. But to Narancia, you were his everything without even knowing. That’s why he was always the one to bring you food after another dry hunt, sure it was rabbit and cow, but it was better than nothing.
Soon, Narancia began to grow tired of being ‘just friends’. The other foxes had started to brand him as an outcast for talking to you, not that he minded. But he needed to know that his feelings were reciprocated and that he wasn’t risking his tribe for somebody who was going to leave him alone. He would surely die if he was an outcast, but with you, he knew he could survive. As long as he had you, he would take on anything the world threw at him.
When he approached you with his offer, you had beamed at him and accepted his proposal. He had been with you since you had been outcasted and you couldn’t thank him enough for the plenty of times he saved you, gave you food to eat and a roof over your head. Then the other foxes had to come and ruin the moment...
The chief was with them, smirking at the ‘pathetic’ display the two of you had put on. The chief of your clan stated that though Narancia was one of his most trusted soldiers, he would be branded an outcast for having relations with one. He simply smiled at you and brought you in for a kiss, like a seal of marriage. He declared you his with no hesitation and swept you off your feet to lead you elsewhere, where the two of you could love each other undisturbed.
Soon, you gave birth to a litter of three and made Narancia the happiest fox in the world! Together you lived in a burrow along a perfect meadow where hardly anyone, fox or human, disturbed the land.

Breaches Worldbuilding: The Resurgence
FROM THIS WIP
The Resurgence is an Earth-based terrorist group comprised of the descendants of an abandoned detachment of Blood Tide soldiers and a number of like-minded human allies. They serve as the main antagonists of Breaches.
The Blood Tide
The Resurgence’s earliest roots can be traced to the ancient Other World organization known as the Blood Tide. The Blood Tide were a large, militaristic organization who attempted to overthrow the other leaderships of the Other World and establish themselves as the world’s rulers. In response, most nations and other entities in the Other World allied against them. The resulting conflict would be among the bloodiest in the world’s history, surpassed only by the Third War for Magic. The alliance formed to combat the Blood Tide is also widely credited as the direct precursor to the current Plane Alliance.
Throughout the course of the war the Blood Tide established many secret strongholds and failsafes around the world in case of a collapse in leadership. At the time, Breach magic was still new and experimental. The group used Breaches to establish strongholds and failsafe bunkers across the world in case of a collapse of their leadership, and were among the first to open Breaches to other planes. One of these planes was this universe; specifically, Earth---a detachment of roughly three thousand soldiers was sent to Earth in case the Blood Tide was defeated across the entirety of the Other World.
When the Blood Tide detachment realized that the world they had chosen was inhabited, they attempted to seize the local area by force. However, the following conflict saw the Blood Tide members horribly outmatched. While magic made them far more powerful than the humans in single and direct combat, they were easily outmatched by the humans’ superior numbers, coordination, tactics, and knowledge of the area. The Blood Tide detachment was crushed over a short series of conflicts, losing nearly 70% of their total forces.
The remaining members of the Blood Tide detachment attempted to retreat back to the Other World, but found that, in the time since they had arrived, the site they had used to create the Breach to Earth had been destroyed, effectively leaving them stranded.
The remnants of the detachment elected to lay low and survive until they could reestablish contact with Blood Tide Command, eventually establishing a hidden community/stronghold. Due to the Blood Tide suffering its final defeat several years later, they were never able to reestablish contact, and the Other World would never learn of their existence.
This community would continue to grow, hidden from prying eyes by illusion spells, gaining more power and making more connections as time went on.
As the community grew and time passed, it would come to be inhabited by the descendants of the original invaders, along with those of long-lived or immortal species, like the Master Crystals, and those with augmented lifespans. Those descendents that attempted to go against the group’s original purpose were usually killed. This new movement would come to be known as the Resurgence.
Alliance with Humanity
The Resurgence has allied itself with a multitude of human groups since its founding, usually terrorists or like-minded dictators. Humans now comprise the majority of the Resurgence’s worldwide presence.
Goal
The modern-day Resurgence shares essentially the same goal as their predecessor organization. They wish to take both The Other World and Earth by force and establish themselves as the ruling body of both worlds.
Leadership
Most information about the Resurgence’s leadership is unknown, but it is known that the organization as a whole are lead by a small council of long-lived individuals who were members of the original detachment of 3,000. On a smaller scale, they make use of many ranks, including but not limited to Compound Commander, Regional Leader, Squad Officer, and Base Commander.
Methods
The Resurgence generally prefer guerilla tactics over direct combat, for reasons listed in the Strengths and Weaknesses section below. Most known incidents that have occured since the Breach to Earth in 2018 have involved terrorist attacks and guerilla strikes rather than all-out assaults.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The most glaring and obvious weakness of the Resurgence is their small number. They are greatly outnumbered by both the forces they would have to fight on Earth or in the Other World, but are even more greatly outnumbered now that the two have allied against them. They are also comprehensively outgunned.
The Resurgence has a number of advantages, however. Firstly, due to having originated from a war that ended hundreds of years ago, they have knowledge of and access to magical practices that have since been mostly forgotten. They also have a more comprehensive knowledge of humanity than the majority of the Other Plane, due to having lived on Earth and interacted with humans for centuries longer. They also have a large number of human allies, as mentioned above.
However, possibly the most dangerous aspect of the Resurgence is that, due to comprehensive experience with both humanity and those from the Other Plane, they have been able to mix human technology and infrastructure with Other Plane magic, blending the two into numerous hybrids. There have even been rumors of media spells-curses and glyphs that can be transmitted purely by image or sound. These rumors are as of yet unsubstantiated, but if there is any weight to them, this is possibly the most dangerous aspect of the Resurgence thus far.
Notable Members
Alru:
Alru is a high-ranking Resurgence member, and is believed to be a mid-level administrator in charge of operations within a large region. He has lead several raids on Other World delegations and joint-world meetings. He has been observed to be very capable in combat and a competent leader. He has also been proven to be highly ruthless, having personally executed numerous hostages, delegation personnel, and uninvolved bystanders.
Notably, Alru led the raid on the joint-plane meeting that exposed the Other World to the rest of the world. The raid resulted in over two dozen deaths, with the survivors being captured. Were it not for the quick thinking of a Serpent consultant and human security guard, they would likely have either been sold for ransom or killed.
The Maelstrom:
The Master Crystal known as the Maelstrom (real name unknown) is thought to be the Resurgence’s top enforcer. He is among their most dangerous combatants, having singlehandedly killed hundreds and devastated entire battlefields in the original Blood Tide War.
The Maelstrom is the oldest known member of the Resurgence; he was known to be both alive and already in the Master Crystal stage of growth at the beginning of the original Blood Tide war, and, if reports are to be believed, is an active member of the Resurgence in the present day.
The Maelstrom has among the most terrifying reputations of any living creature from the Other Plane, a fact the Resurgence knows and exploits. They have used him as a threat both against Earth and Other Plane organizations and internally against those whose loyalty to the Resurgence they doubt.
Sitesska:
Sitesska is a female Serpent responsible for coordinating numerous Resurgence operations. She tends to work behind the scenes, generally not taking an active role in operations. However, on the few occasions in which she has come into direct conflict, she has proven to be a powerful and ruthless master-level mage, having been observed observed using powerful and precise advanced Glyph, Elemental, and Imbuement spells with ease.
Sitesska is often something of a maverick and doesn’t really follow any more than the minimum amount of rules necessary to complete her and the Resurgence’s goals. Were it not for her high level of competence and vital role in numerous Resurgence operations, she would likely have been executed years before the Breaches opened.

Not Dead Yet (Part 44)
*Thank you all so much for over 500 followers. Fair warning there is a lot of dialogue.*
Pairing: Reader x Peter Pan
Warnings: language
“How are you still alive?” Felix groaned when I walked back into camp later that night.
“A deal with the devil.” I sat down flashing Felix a broad grin. “Weren’t expecting me to get out of that one, were you?”
“You brought a fairy to the island. You really shouldn’t have been able to walk away scot free after that. What spell did you cast to make him spare you this time?” Felix didn’t seem particularly angered by my continued existence but rather tired.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s not like Peter to get irritated over any little thing.” I smirked. I figured Felix was fighting the urge to push me into the bonfire.
I suppose doing the exact opposite of what your leader wants and never suffering any consequences for it would wear on any of Peter’s loyal followers. There was only one real rule on the island and that was not to upset Peter in any way. You angered him or disrespected him then your head would surely be on a chopping block. Sure I’ve irritated him to the point where he probably would have killed me and I have been scared for my life when I was caught doing things I shouldn’t have but I always came out fine. In the many years I’ve lived here I have done a countless number of things that should have gotten me killed and this latest blunder was my crowning jewel. Anyone else would have been skewered on the spot. Me? I got laid.
I had thought about leaving to find Tigerlily but decided that I had tried my luck for the day. I could have very easily gotten her killed I doubt she would want to see me anyways. I’ll try in the morning after training.
During training the next day I paired off with Spink to practice my sword fighting. Usually the fight was over when the other was subdued but after an unfortunate accident involving an overly aggressive Nick and a dagger in a past Lost Boys eye it was changed to whoever drew first blood. Not as much fun or practical for real combatives but it did keep us from having to dig more graves.
After training I went off into the jungle to search for Tigerlily. I eventually found her hunkering in a cave on the other half of the island. “Hello,” I stepped into the cave, “Can I have a word?”
“You’re already here so…” she shrugged. I sat down. “What is it you wanted to discuss?”
“I had wanted to make sure that you were alright after yesterday. Peter told me you helped him and that he was letting you stay on the island but I wanted to make sure nothing else had happened that he wasn’t telling me.”
“I’m fine, as you can see. What all did he tell you?”
“Everything. He knows it’s not a good idea to keep secrets from me anymore.”
“Yours is a truly unorthodox relationship isn’t it? Such devotion to each other is something I have not seen in some time.”
“Devotion may be a strong word. I’m loyal to him and we’re friends but besides that I’m not sure I would go as far as to it’s anything more than that.”
“But you two are lovers?”
“It’s more of slating urges and bribery than it is about emotional connection. Once we’re done we part ways. Waking up in each others tents would give the Lost Boys the wrong idea.”
“So you believe this arrangement between the two of you is purely physical?”
“Well, yes. We’re friends and lovers but to imply that there is deeper emotions behind all of this is expecting way too much of Peter. At the end of the day he’s a self codfish and there’s no changing that. He only acts so generous because I’ve basically threatened him into being that way.”
“And what does a Lost Girl have to threaten the ruler of Neverland with?”
“My absence.”
“Your absence is enough to make him do as you wish? And you still claim that he only cares for himself?”
“I see how that looks--”
“It looks like he cares about you more than just as a friend of lover--”
“The situation is a lot more nuanced than that. You just got here you don’t know me and you don’t know who Peter is nowadays.”
“You’re right. He has changed a lot since I saw him last. But I stand by what I said.” she shifted to undo the braids in her hair and re-braid them, “If I may ask, how did you come to be here? Come to be by Peter’s side?”
“That is a long story spanning many years.” I sighed.
“I have time and nothing to do.” she tied off her first braid, “Care to tell me the tale?”
“Sure. But a lot of what I’m going to tell you cannot leave this cave.”
“Of course.” the grin on her face made me hesitate to tell her anything. “Compromising details you don’t want the rest of your group to know. I’m used to hearing such specifics.”
“As long as we understand one another.” I took in a deep breath and recounted my tale. How years ago I had been living in the Enchanted Forest and heard the pipes. How I was brought to Neverland and fought against sexist Lost Boys and cocky leaders to become a skilled fighter and manipulator. I told her about my damning curiosity that landed me in my fair share of tough spots. How I had twisted Peter’s arm to respect me and be honest with me. How we had grown from wanting to kill each other to this weird friendship we have now.
Tigerlily listened closely only interrupting to ask a question about a situation or person who is no longer alive. By the end she seemed to understand more why I had such an influence on Peter and how I could force an entire pirate ship to do as I wished with one threat.
“That is a lot to take in.” She drummed her fingers against her knee, “How long have you been here exactly?”
“I don’t even know anymore. I stopped counting a couple decades ago.” I leaned back against the cave wall. Retelling everything had brought up a lot of feelings I had forgotten about. I touched the spot on my neck where my pearl necklace used to lay. I hadn’t even thought of it until I was telling her about the initiation and how Peter had saved me from being drowned by mermaids. I wonder if I would ever see it again.
“Well for all the fights you engaged in it sounds like you to have hit an even pattern.”
“It doesn’t do well for anyone if we fight. It’s better for one of us to swallow our pride and admit our wrongdoings before the island breaks in two.” I hadn’t noticed before but the sky had gotten darker during my tale. Tigerlily noticed and started to gather some dry brush and wood to start a fire. I stood to help her having had a lot more practice starting fires. “What about you? How did you end up wingless and such?”
She kept her back turned to me as she placed the wood strategically so to have the fire catch quicker. She let out a short sigh and turned back to settle those unreadable eyes on me. “A life story for another.”
“It only seems fair.” I stooped close to the brush and got out my flint to start the fire. “Feeling like sharing?”
“Sit down. This may take a while.” the fire caught and started to lick up the sides of the wood as it grew. “Where to start?”
“How about when Peter was cursed.” I suggested.
“Alright, then.” she picked at a stick drawing swirls in the dirt at her feet. “After Blue had him condemned to the island for his vulgar actions we went back to our world. I remember being unable to sleep the entire night as I thought of my godson rotting away on some island all alone. Blue tried to assure me that he would live to see many years in his solace maybe one day if he truly learns from his mistakes the curse may be lifted. But over time he continued to do bad things and with each mistake the consequences grew.”
“Grew how?”
“He was supposed to live for as long as he could unable to leave the island. Once he learned magic to separate his shadow from his body the spell binding him to the island transformed into a curse. We felt the presence of dark magic and returned to the island to find the hourglass counting down his life. We told him he had maybe a thousand years before the sand ran out and warned him not to do anything more that would alter it.”
“And we see how well that worked out.” I muttered.
“Yes. A while ago though I’ve lost my wings I could still sense the island and the curse. I could tell it had changed once more and started looking for a way to tell him. To come here to Neverland and help him. After all the grief he has given me I still feel inclined to help him. He was my godson and though he has become this demon spawn a part of me still wants to believe there is something worth redeeming in him.”
“If Peter can be redeemed it would take a lot longer than a thousand years to accomplish that.”
“I’m starting to realize as much.” Tigerlily scowled, “Still, if there was a chance would you not help him?”
“I would.” That much I knew to be true. “But how did you lose your wings?”
“That is another story altogether.” she glanced behind her as if she was expecting to see them there again. “After I had lost Pan as my godson I was ushered to find a new one to care for. I couldn’t bring myself to care about any of them though and turned to the Black Fairy.”
“I’ve only heard stories about the Black Fairy. She is a force to be reckoned with. Even Peter doesn’t speak of her and he scoffs at things such as wraiths and the Dark One. But you...you worked with her?” I asked disbelieving.
Tigerlily nodded solemnly. “I knew that her magic was dangerous and that affiliating myself with her would put me in the bad graces of the other fairies but I didn’t care. I kept thinking that if I could stick by her side I could learn some way to break the curse on Pan. She was quite eager to help me too. In the end being her ally became too dangerous and I couldn’t turn a blind eye to what she was doing to her children anymore. I went back to Blue and the other fairies for help to stop her. They gave me the half of the ancient wand I used to slow the curse and banished the Black Fairy to a land where she couldn’t harm anyone else.”
She withdrew a piece of driftwood from her bag and held it as if it was a precious jewel. The ancient wand. The one that saved Peter.
“After that I renounced my wings. They had me keep the half of the wand believing it would be safer away from the dominion of the fairies in case the Black Fairy ever returned. That was part of the reason I was so keen to get to another realm. Word leaked to some dark forces that I carried the wand and I spent years running from them across the Enchanted Forest. It was when I met you that I realized that Neverland was my best hope to avoid the wand falling into the wrong hands and to reunite with my godson.”
“Wow.” I let the story sink in, “That is quite the story.”
“Yes. I knew coming here that Pan would be rather cross about my appearance seeing as how we parted on bad terms but it was a chance I had to take. I needed protection and I needed closure.” she clutched the wand half tighter, “You brought me both. For that I thank you and am in your debt.”
“You’re already paying that debt or do you forget my conditions for bringing you here?”
“I think I understand more why you wanted another female presence on this island. Brothers are all well and good for a family but it can be isolating being the only one of your kind, can’t it?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe.” It was getting late and if I didn’t return to camp soon Peter may come looking for me. “I’m glad you’re here, Tigerlily. Not just for what you did for Peter but for listening to my dramatics. I haven’t been so blatantly honest with someone outside of Peter in years.”
“Glad I could be of help. If you ever need a day away from the testosterone circus you know where I am.”
“That I do.” I started to leave the cave, “One more thing, this goes without saying but if you breathe a word of what I have told you here today or betray my trust you will wish you had been banished with the Black Fairy. Understood?”
She didn’t seem intimidated by the threat if the smirk on her face was anything to go by. “Understood. I would expect nothing less of a Lost Girl.”
“Good. Have a nice night.” I left the cave and started the trek back to camp.
“Hey, where have you been?” Ben asked when I got back to camp. “You just disappeared after training we thought you had bailed the island with Pan again.”
“I was talking with Tigerlily. Peter left?”
“Still can’t believe you got away with bringing a fairy to the island.”
“Ex-fairy. Where’d Peter go?”
Ben shrugged. “Don’t know. He just up and left earlier this evening. Oh by the way that new kid you brought the other day was looking for you.”
“Isaac? What’s he want?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you go ask him? He’s right over there.” Ben pointed across the camp where I spotted Isaac’s pale hair beaming like moonlight. “Hard to miss him, not very useful for sneak tactics when he’s such a bright contrast to the jungle.”
“I think he has promise. See ya, Ben.” I walked over to Isaac and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and his pale face turned bright pink. “Ben said you wanted to talk to me?”
“Y-Yeah,” he swallowed thickly. The boys with him snickered at his stuttering. I shot them a cold glare and they slinked off without a word. I motioned for him to sit and asked him what he had needed from me. “Well, I was just curious about something really.”
“What’s that?”
“I um…” he kept from looking me in the eye, “I noticed that you’re the only girl on this island, right?”
“That is correct. Well outside of the mermaids and now Tigerlily’s here but I’m the only Lost Girl if that’s what you’re wondering. I know it can confuse new boys.”
“It is a tad strange. But you are really strong and confident and when I met you I thought you were also very kind and fun.”
“Awe, you flatter me.”
“I suppose I was just wondering why it is that you aren’t the ruler of this realm. All the boys seem to like and respect you. Even Pan holds you high regard from what Devin’s told me. How are you just a regular Lost Girl like we’re Lost Boys?”
Oh. This was the first time anyone had ever expected me to be the leader. I know that Rufio had held me in high esteem but what Isaac was talking about seemed different. From how seriously he talked it sounded like he truly believed I should be the leader of Neverland and the Lost Boys. It was flattering in a way but also dangerous. The last time traitorous thoughts like that came about on the island it exploded into a civil war. I was not going to settle another one of those.
“Peter is the leader of this realm because he is the most powerful. As Lost Ones we need to respect him. We are a family and he is the one that brought us together and lets us live here in this paradise. The other Lost Boys respect me because they are my brothers and I respect them. As for Peter, we didn’t always get along. We actually actively tried to kill each other many years ago. I may be important to him now in some regards but at the end of the day I am a Lost One same as you and same as all the others. Nothing strange about it. Like I could handle controlling all you idiots to begin with. I can be scary but without any magic like Peter I doubt my reign would last.”
“You really believe all that?”
“Honestly? Yes. I’ve grown to respect him in the way he’s used to. I can’t very well let him know that though so don’t mention any of this to him, okay?”
“Sure.” he was blushing even deeper now. “I know you want me to see Pan as the leader but is it okay if I look up to you instead? I won’t call you leader or treat him any less than the others but I would much prefer to come to you instead of him. Is that okay?”
“Sure, I guess. As long as you still respect Peter I don’t see the problem with it. Going against him will surely get you killed, just remember that. We may be a family but with Peter it’s a special case. He’s not exactly a brother but not a king ruling over his land either.” I know I regard Peter as a friend and a lover but what was he to the other boys besides their leader? Surely there had to be more than just that.
“So he’s more like a god?” Isaac piped up.
“Now don’t let him hear that. He does not need reason to get an even bigger head.” Just the thought of Peter comparing himself to a god brought on a migraine. He’s already so pompous and smug I didn’t want to add any fuel to the already out of control inferno that was his ego.
“I just thought it made sense. He brought us here, he controls the island, and he can choose whether we live or not? Isn’t that kinda god like?”
“A vengeful god maybe.” I muttered, “You really don’t need to worry about him. He’ll give orders and play games with us from time to time but other than that he keeps to himself. The more I think about it, I barely see him talk to anybody on the island outside of Felix and I.”
“See, you are more than just a regular Lost Girl.” Isaac smiled brightly.
A warm wave of affection thrummed through my chest. I hadn’t felt something so pure in a long time. I wrapped an arm around his shoulders and gave him a small squeeze. “I like you, Isaac. I think we’re gonna have a lot of fun together.”
~~~
Isaac spent the night sitting on the beach overlooking the dark water ripple the reflection of the moon in it’s waves. When it was quiet this place could be so peaceful. It was so open and warm.
Excellent work my child. The voice slithered around his mind like the burning cold of frostbite.
There only a matter of days and you’re already in Pan’s second in command’s good graces. I’m almost impressed. Then again she can be so trusting.
“She’s kind.” he whispered to the air.
She’s a murderer. A ruthless and unyielding pawn of mayhem molded and forged by Pan himself. You haven’t forgotten what he’s done already, have you? What he’s taken from you?
“Never.”
Then keep in mind what it is you are there for. Earn their trust. Break them. Return him to me and you will be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams my son.
“Yes mother.”
Good boy. Now get some rest. I will tell you when we move next. Sweet dreams.
A Thing Between Light And Darkness (Chapter 7)
AO3 Link
It was Saturday morning and Gideon was facing a sketch book as he drew the lines of the hood that covered the woman’s face. He had been dreaming about her for some weeks now, but his dreams always ended up at the same point: he tried to reach for her, then there was the unmistakable sound of a shot and suddenly, he died. Or better, he woke up, but somehow Gideon knew it was the end of the dream, because it was the end of him.
The boy finished the draw, facing the woman’s delicate lines, which looked so identical to the face that had been haunting his dreams and took a deeper breath, closing the sketch book and looking up at the ceiling. Things weren’t right anymore. He wasn’t supposed to be dreaming about inexistent people and thinking about himself as a magical being or urging to be at the garden and get more answers about powers he knew he wasn’t supposed to have.
It seemed like it was yesterday that his drunk father knocked on his door, saying in a languished voice that he was going to the grocery store and he should wash the freaking dishes before leaving. Gaston never came home and it seemed that ever since that day, everything changed in his life.
Standing up, he got the car keys and slipped them to his pocked, already knowing that he wasn’t going to get back there so soon and made his way to the kitchen, where he found Mrs. Potts working in front of the oven and his mother, sat by the breakfast table, dark circles around her eyes, showing that he didn’t have a great night of sleep.
"Hey, mama, I haven’t seen you arriving yesterday," Gideon said, kissing her cheek before sitting by her side and serving himself with some cereal.
"Yeah, I’m sorry, sweetie," Isabelle murmured, holding her teacup tightly. "I had to revise a research for the University and I think I might go back there today, because I wasn’t able to finish all the work."
Lifting the spoon to his own mouth, Gideon took sometimes chewing the cereal to think about the right answer. What he truly wanted was to ask his mother to stay home with him, so he could talk to her about the things that were bothering him and confusing his mind. With her, Gideon knew he could be sincere without expecting any judgement, Belle would hear everything he needed to say and she would do it with an open mind. But of course, she wasn’t going to be around time enough for them to have a real conversation.
"Oh," he mumbled. "Alright, but I'll miss you."
"And so, will I," his mother replied. "Be good to Mrs. Potts, ok?"
Nodding Gideon started to eat in silence again. He loved his mother very much, but along the last year it seemed that something had changed her; he didn’t think it was his father’s death, because Gaston was only cruel to Belle, most of the time. However, he couldn’t deny that she was different, more secretive and staying at the library until late night, doing a research he never knew nothing about.
When he finished his breakfast, Gideon washed his bowl and spoon, got his school bag and stopped beside Belle, watching as she traced invisible lines at the table, eyes appearing to be slightly hopeless, before he laid a hand on her shoulder and she glanced up at him with a huge smile.
"Listen, I have to finish some homework with Roderick, so, I see you by dinner or will you be already gone?"
"No, I'll eat with you," Isabelle promised. "Take care of yourself."
Gideon kissed the top of her head and disappeared through the hallway. It only took the needed time for the car’s noises to be distant to Mrs. Potts to turn around, resting both hands on her own hips as she faced Belle with narrowed eyes.
"He is not going to Roderick's and you were not at the University when you said you were," the housekeeper accused. "What happened this time?"
"Nothing," she shrunk.
"You can't fool me, Isabelle. Speak."
Her tone was authoritarian and commanding. Belle knew best than to anger Mrs. Potts, but she didn’t wish to bring more worries to her house, when she already had so many in her own mind. The last thing she wanted was to have more people concerned, even though she knew it would be only a matter of time before the housekeeper learned the truth.
"Gold found everything out," Belle sighed. "He knows Gideon is his son. And I didn't come home because I was with him."
"Are you mad, woman?" Mrs. Potts yelled, making her jump on her seat. "Do you know the threat these people are for your boy?"
"Yes, I know and that's why I told Rumford the truth. I may not like to admit it, but I will need his power," the brunette remarked. "He is the only one who can protect our son."
For the first time since she spoke with Gold, Belle was being sincere with someone, of course Ruby knew everything, but she had watched their whole forbidden love story at front seat and surely didn’t waste time leaving her a note saying how stupid she was being now. But Ruby, differently from her, thought they could face the darkness alone and, Belle who had already seen much of it was pretty sure that without help, they would all die.
"I protected the house. And I'm trying to protect Gideon, but he keeps getting involved with Alice," Mrs. Potts bounced, a flicker of despair appearing on her shaky voice. "The boy seems to seek danger, just like you."
"I know, my old friend and I'm grateful for everything you're doing, but we both know that you're not as powerful as an Incubus," Belle said, reaching for her hand, squeezing it gently. "And when Malcolm comes... He will want my son."
Alice was already waiting when Gideon arrived the garden. She was sat near the place where they found the chain that apparently cause the vision they had about her uncle, a pile of books by her side as she wrote something in a notebook. Gideon approached her with a smirk on his lips.
"Study time?" He inquired, dropping his backpack to the ground before sitting beside the blonde girl.
She looked at him with a frown, clearly not in her best mood. Gideon hoped he could fully understand her someday, but as much as she seemed to be willing to share some bits of her life with him, the girl was still a closed book. Or better, a mystery book, and it would take time to solve all of her.
"You think yourself so funny..." Alice contemplated with disdain. "This is serious."
"I know, I'm sorry."
He reached for one of the books in the pile beside her, moving to sit face to face with Alice so he could have a better access to them. Gideon had never seen something that looked so ancient as those books; their covers were made with dark leather, the titles, all very fantasying and confusing, written with what he thought to be golden ink.
"See? There is very proof you are magical," Alice pointed out. "Mortals can't touch these books directly without burning their fingers."
"Nice," Gideon grumbled, wondering if this was some kind of test. "So where do we start?"
Taking the book from his hands, Alice opened it and flipped some pages, until she found what she wanted and placed it back to his lap.
"Here, Incubus."
"What is this? Another kind of witch?"
"No," the girl rolled her eyes. "They are mostly dark creatures who feed themselves from Mortals."
Of course, he wasn't a stupid person, he was raised by a mother who was a scholar and a librarian, obsessed with books and acknowledgment, he knew the obvious answer was not always the right one, but he couldn't help letting slip through his lips the first thing that came to his mind.
"Oh, so basically vampires?"
"Don't be stupid, vampires don’t exist," Alice exclaimed, as if she now thought he was an idiot. "They don't feed themselves from blood they... Well, they feed from their vital energy during intimate acts."
A strong blush came to her cheeks and the girl looked away as he processed the information. Intimate acts. He could feel himself blushing now too.
"Oh."
"Yeah, oh," she coughed. "So, I think you're one of these."
Eyes getting wide, Gideon felt offended.
"Wait, I'm not some kind of manic."
"Of course, not," Alice bounced tapping a finger to the opened page of the book he still had, but that was completely forgotten by the boy. "And you wouldn't be now anyway because an Incubus is only complete in power when it reaches the age of twenty. Until then, you're almost normal."
In actual fact, Gideon's had was spinning. That couldn't be true. He couldn't be a monster obsessed with hunting woman down to make himself strong and powerful. And yet, he had his hand firmly wrapped around the book and they weren't burning.
"Sure," he muttered, trying to cope with everything she said.
"My uncle is one of a kind. He doesn't feed himself from woman's strength," Alice continued. "He steals dreams instead."
"Really?"
"It doesn't work the same way, because it means he is fighting his inner darkness, but it keeps him alive."
Internally the boy celebrated those words. So, there was another way. If he was really an Incubus he didn't need to be a monster, he could be a cool guy who occasionally invaded people's dreams. It wasn't that bad.
"Well, your uncle is very brave," Gideon praised.
"He uses to say he is a coward."
"I don't think so," the boy smiled. "But what brings you to the conclusion that I'm an Incubus and not anything else?"
Alice sighed.
"The power I feel in you is different from mine. It's like the one I feel in uncle Rum."
"That might explain why you think I look like him," Gideon chuckled.
The blonde girl laughed slightly, as she analysed her friend's expression, recognising the lines of his chin, eyes and ears from someone who she knew for an entire life. It wasn't a theory for her anymore but an undeniable truth and she thought it was only a matter of time for either Gideon or her uncle to realise that.
"You have no idea," she whispered under her breath.
"What?"
"Nothing. Hold my hand," Alice asked and so did the boy. "What do you feel?"
Gideon concentrated in trying to notice something that wasn't the smoothness of her palms against his, until a strange feeling settled in him.
"It's like tickles on my fingers," he told her.
"Concentrate," she commanded. "Think about lifting."
He did and in a slip second all the fallen leaves around them where fluttering, held in the air by a magic Gideon didn't knew until now. He could now feel the great power that emanated from him keeping the leaves in place and he felt good as if for the first time in his life he was doing exactly what he was meant to.
"Whoa."
"You, my dear, Gideon," Alice started, very slowly, "is definitely gifted."
That was when the world got twisted. In a second he was about to pull away from her hand and start trying to make other magic tricks, although he had no idea how, and in the other, he was observing a scene that clearly took place inside the Gold Manor. He recognised the living room, even though the furniture was different, darker and with no big piano or shelves full of collective items there, but it was still the same.
The front door opened to reveal a younger Rumford Gold walking in and taking off his coat, before someone stopped behind him.
"Where were you?" An older man asked Gold.
"Studying," Rum shrugged walking away from the man.
"Liar. You were with that Mortal girl again," he inquired, a smirk on his lips as he followed the boy. "Did you have some fun, lad?"
"I'm going to sleep."
Rumford's tone was cold and the frown on his face let it clear that the last thing he wanted was to be having this conversation.
"You look healthy. I can almost feel the strength of your powers," the man pointed out. "I bet you screw her until she was senseless."
"Shut up," Rum yelled.
There was a loud noise of glass breaking and then the living room's floor was full of small pieces of it. All the windows had been broken by Gold's unbridled powers.
"That's what I like to see," laughed the other man. "But don't get much attached. We all know that you'll end up killing her in the end. And please do our family a favour and prevent yourself from getting the little bitch knocked up. Our magic fade in Mortal's blood and we want a strong line."
With these words, Rumford exploded. In a minute he was heading to the staircase, in the other he was attacking the man and making him fall on the floor as a punch hit his chin.
"You don't talk this way about her ever again, did you hear me?"
"No, you hear me, lad," he said behind clenched teeth changing positions and grounding Rumford on the floor, a hand firmly pressed to his throat, making him choke. "You better kill her soon or I'll will do it for you."
A gasp left Gideon's mouth as he came back to his senses. When he looked up he realised that Alice was wearing the chain they had found there.
"Your uncle again," Gideon complained, standing up before they had the chance of being dragged to another vision.
"Yes," Alice confirmed. "And my grandfather, Malcolm. I think now I know why they hated each other."
She quickly picked her things and headed back to the Manor, taking off the chain while she did so. First day of lessons was over.
Fic: Ak’tephari Prophecy Ch 56
Read at AO3
December 4th
Emma told herself it was an optical illusion that the trees seemed to part in front of them. There must just have been spaces that weren’t apparent farther back, right? It didn’t help that the trees felt even more alive and ancient here than elsewhere in the sanctuary.
But she also felt welcomed, though holding the hand of the person who’d been invited certainly helped.
The trees were thinning again, and then the forest opened into a clearing around a pool of water that looked perfectly round. An ancient Forester sat at the far side, eyes closed, barely visible in the dawn light and shadows. Emma turned to Regina, who looked just as lost as she felt.
“Come forward, my children,” the impossibly ancient man said, suddenly fixing them with a piercing gaze. The strength of his voice was at odds with his frail appearance.
As they approached him, they saw he was seated on a stone stool, and there were two others, which he gestured to them to take. Then he cocked his head at them. “I ask for the chosen one and a companion and receive two that are one. Interesting.”
“I’m sorry?” Regina asked, uncertain, glancing at Emma.
Emma shrugged and dropped Regina’s hand, in case that was what was bothering him.
"It’s no matter,” he assured them. “What is your purpose here?"
"The world is in grave danger, Forestmaster," Regina began, then hesitated.
"I have felt an imbalance of late, it is true," he agreed. "In the same omens that told me you would come to me to right it." He sounded skeptical.
"After a fashion, Father, yes, we do. It’s in your power to grant access to what we need to try,” Regina explained.
“What is it with this one?” the old man asked suddenly, tipping his head toward Emma. “Doesn’t she talk?”
“I thought that because Regina is chosen I should stay out of it,” Emma explained. It sounded silly coming out of her mouth.
He huffed a little chuckle. “But you’re in it. More, it seems, than you know.” He looked back to Regina. “What is it that you need?”
Regina came right out with it. “We request that you let us take from here the piece of the Orb of Aern that has been kept by the Foresters since the last age so that we can complete our quest."
His eyes widened, and he stared at them for such a long time that Emma started to shift uncomfortably. Finally, he responded. "That’s a great thing to ask, young ones. Few speak that name, nor know that these treasures are part of a greater whole. It is ours to keep it safe, just as it is ours to preserve the harmony of the forest lands."
"And they have been safe for over a thousand years,” Emma said deferentially. “But now the piece is urgently needed in the world. If we’re going to stop the spreading darkness, the Orb has to be reassembled."
"What do you know of Aern?"
It was an unexpected question, and Emma didn’t have much of an answer. "Only the name. I don’t even know if it’s a person or a place."
“Aern was a powerful man who lived thousands of years ago. Many cycles. He was a prince and a mage.”
“Did he make the orb, then?” Regina asked, eager to learn. Emma’s lips twitched trying not to smile.
“He did, eventually.” There was a hint of reprimand in his tone at not letting him tell the story in his own time.
“What happened first?” Emma urged.
“Aern was also chosen by the elemental powers as their vessel to stop the attack of the Xan in his time. And because he had so much power already, he did not appreciate the gravity of what was being asked of him. He was arrogant. He tried to focus all of the elemental powers through himself.”
Emma gasped.
“Ah, so this you understand,” the Forestmaster teased. “No mortal could do such a thing. He nearly died. It was sheer stupid luck that the one he loved was with him. His love let Spirit take control of him and guide his magic. But it broke his body, and it took many months before he could travel home. The full force of the elemental powers is not to be trifled with.”
Emma found herself wanting to be holding Regina’s hand again. She didn’t know why she had thought that the only risk was in being a blood sacrifice to the Xan. But the orb would keep her safe, wouldn’t it?
“Aern was brought here because this was the closest safe haven to Kyna. And here, as he healed, with the help of the Forestmaster of that time, he forged the orb, to give the magic a focal point other than the body of the vessel, and so it has been used ever after.”
“And so we need to use it now,” Regina said, and she was doing that noble and determined thing again that made Emma’s heart ache.
The old man gave a little amused snort. “Someone needs to use it now. It remains to be seen whether it’s you.”
Emma blinked. “Wait, what?”
“There is a test. There is always a test. How else to prove that you are in fact chosen?” He shook his head at her lack of understanding.
“Like in the citadels,” Regina said. Then she tilted her head. “Why aren’t they all in the citadels anymore?”
“Each of the four kingdoms claimed that it could protect the orb better than the others, and to prevent a war it was divided into its constituent parts and given to the four kingdoms to protect, with one piece remaining at Kyna. The citadels were built, and their magic worked for many centuries, with the chosen one gathering all the pieces as need arose.” He took a deep breath. “But over the cycles, things that should not have been forgotten were lost.”
“That’s convenient for the other guys,” Emma muttered.
The old man gave a small nod of acknowledgement. “Once the leaders of the four kingdoms had forgotten their sacred duty, the pieces were at risk. Some were removed as antique curiosities. Others forgotten altogether. We Foresters remembered, but we also knew that the Rowan piece was safest with us, so we brought it here for safekeeping.”
“Then what’s the test we need to pass?” Emma asked. “I assume we have to fight something. Will we be able to rest before we have to do it? And given back our clothing?”
This time he laughed out loud. “What a soldier you are. Do you know which piece this is?”
“Love,” Regina said with a smile.
“Yes, my child. And do you love?”
“Yes,” Regina said, openly, immediately. Emma couldn’t help smiling at her, because how was she so lucky to have this woman love her this much?
“And from her expression, I see who. Shall we see whether the elemental powers are equally certain? Come forward, my children. Hopefully, your time in meditation has rendered your Spirit clear enough for me to feel the truth of you.”
Emma swallowed hard, but didn’t look at Regina and just did as she was told, kneeling beside her on the thick patch of moss in front of the Forestmaster. He placed his hands on their heads and Emma felt magic respond, running through her and into his hands. But there was also a little tug sideways that felt like Regina. She fought back the confusion, trying to clear her mind, but she kept thinking about Regina—her smile, her quick wit, her incredible courage.
“Hm. Well that’s something you don’t see every day,” the Forestmaster muttered, then released them.
“What, Forestmaster? What don’t you see every day?” Regina asked, looking a little shaken.
“It would be dangerous for you to know too soon. But I am satisfied that you are indeed chosen of the elemental powers. The piece of the Orb is yours to use.”
