vhs christmas carols: the coherent version
clark just casually sounding like an angel
meredith vibing on the bongos is so funny
i love the choreography godbless james tolbert
the box lids making the play button gagged me fr
janaya sounds so good ugh
and is also pretty wtf and i love della’s costume
i also love jim’s costume! maybe this will just be me raving over the costumes
jim making a heart with his hands as he leaves? i love him. he has such himbo energy
joey lauren and brian leaping onto stage is so funny
actually the three of them in general are so funny in this show
the new songs are so boppy, i know this is such a broad statement but i don’t know what else to say about them except that they’re all fucking spectacular and clark outdid himself
the model walking!!!! the dancing!!!! iconic
everything about the internal panic song is hilarious, a strong contender for my favourite of all of the new songs
“you’re more beautiful than ever” CRYING SCREAMING SOBBING WHAT THE FUCK WHY AM I FEELING THINGS
jim and della are so cute istg
“not combs that comb but combs you wear” fave lyric
this song is so heartfelt and janaya and curt do such a good job and sound so good
the matching combs in the hair 😭 i love them
the cold streets of the city probably is my favourite song
their voices are so funny, this is my favourite trio of all time
brian’s face when the match girl comes in is so funny
and lauren’s face when she gets offered a match ansjdhdjsksa
as i said, i will be raving about costumes, and the match girl costume is soooo good i’m so obsessed
scrooge bumping into della and now the match girl is so funny
meredith tearing up is so real i also feel like crying
idk what else i can say about grandma land except that man this story is genuinely so sad
and that jamie burns is gorgeous and also has the voice of an angel
i like how this final song of the act sets up scrooge and the christmas carol themes
“hi clark”
THE AUDIENCE IS SO REAL FOR CHEERING AS SOON AS BAH HUMBUG STARTS
meredith helping out with the bass line on the keyboard is sooo funny
AJ!SCROOGE IS SO GOOD
like i love dylan obvs but i adore aj’s version so much
going into this with the cast changes in mind i was a little more hesitant about brian as fred (just because i think corey is so good at it) but i love the way he plays him so much, he’s so funny
bob’s wave when he’s introduced is so cute
having meredith be in the band for most of it and then coming down as marley is genuinely so ingenious. his presence is constantly hanging over scrooge and the entire narrative even when scrooge doesn’t realise it,
“scrooge gives a shriek *short high pitched scream* killed me
the ghosts wrapping the chains around scrooge is really cool
christmas past is always pretty unhinged but i need whatever jlb put into this performance because it’s OFF THE CHARTS she’s so iconic
the slo-mo dancing is so good thank you james tolbert
the contrast between jim & della and scrooge & belle KILLS ME!!! need whoever deduced to have them played by the same person to pay my therapy bills please /pos
curt does a really great job in this role
also JANAYA ma’am im already in love with you, you don’t have to keep driving the needle in
aj sounds so heartbroken holy shit he was such a good choice to take over for dylan he’s so so so so so good
james tolbert crushing it as always
the light up shoes and glasses is still iconic
every time tiny tim gets a little more pathetic and this is the correct choice for character
i also like that it’s developed from just emily being disgusted by tim in the last one to bob also being the same in this one
joey trying to drag brian to his feet is my favourite
also tim using the bear as a microphone
basically what i’m trying to say that every new character choice in regards to tim is absolutely perfect godbless
JIM AND DELLA BEING THE COUPLE THAT WERE IN DEBT IS SO CLEVER I LOVE HOW THEY TIE THE SHOWS TOGETHER
bob holding tim’s bear 😭
the choice to have the people that scrooge has wronged surrounding him and him begging to THEM that he’s changed is such a good directorial choice like!!! james tolbert i will never stop thanking you for this decision
THE MATCH GIRL INSTEAD OF THE TURKEY BOY
SCROOGE BUYING SOME MATCHES AAAAA FJDJDHEBDHDND HIS REDEMPTION IS LITERALLY SAVING LIVES ALREADY
clark audibly giggling as aj and lauren fumble around with the money is so precious
SCROOGE GIVING JIM THE WATCH AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
can’t believe i went from laughing at fred still partying with the glasses to crying at his expression at seeing scrooge trying to connect with him. brian holden i am suing you for emotional damage.
overall the show is still so good but honestly what was i expecting
the first act was a really great edition to the story and i love how they made them connect to christmas carol
and all of the cast changes in christmas carol were excellent and worked so well
this is still the best starkid show no i’m not taking criticism
and i hope they keep on performing it because i love it so much

Love your edits and overall page 💘 What other ships do you enjoy outside of Nashuri/Namuri, if you care to share?
Tumblr media
Hey 🧡 Thank you for the love, I have fun making them! Lowkey bummed my posts aren’t posting to tags anymore but alas. With the recent "what ships piss you off + what ships do you love" trend going around Twitter, I was just thinking about mine the other day and realized most of them have some sort of angst to them 😅 Outside of NAMOR X SHURI, here are some of my other fave ships over the years [in no particular order] Let’s get into it *cracks knuckles*
Tumblr media
- - - - - - - - < + > - - - - - - - -
A. SAM X BUCKY: "Can you move your seat up?" "No."
I have to say that this ^ line reeled me in but what sealed my fate was the offscreen friendship between Antony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Those damn compilation vids on yt killed me; they are too funny together. I genuinely feel like they aren't even acting when they work together. You can see their friendship shine through, and I think that's why Marvel realized they needed to do something with this goldmine. In regards of the characters Sam and Bucky tho, I enjoy both a romantic or platonic love between them. There's a strong connection there either way full of support, transparency, shared pain etc and these two losers have my heart. Also, I will never get over that scene in Endgame when Steve speaks with Sam and before accepting the shield, Sam looks over at Bucky and Bucky nods in support *ugly cries*
Show: The Falcon & The Winter Soldier
B. FLEABAG X PRIEST: "I love you." "It will pass."
This ship is definitely one of those ships that devastated me 🥴 Their awkward and yet endearing connection was everything. Fleabag’s dry humor and wit just jelled so well with the Priest in such an unassuming and comforting way. She truly found her match, which made the whole thing that much more tragic. The parts where he broke the fourth wall with the audience and questioned who she was talking to took me out lmao. I was heartbroken with how the show ended but in the midst of everything, it felt fitting. I don’t think they should have done it any different. I also find it funny that we never learn Fleabag or the Priest’s actual names.
Show: Fleabag
C. INUYASHA X KAGOME: "Sit boy!"
These two are one of my first ships when I was young so the nostalgia hits hard with them. As an adult looking back tho, Inuyasha and Kagome’s relationship pissed me off the majority of the show rofl. His back and forth with Kikyo was SO unnecessary. They were so aggravating at times that at one point it was a toss up between Inuyasha and Koga for me. Koga was looking like the better man for Kagome. He meant business and knew where his priorities were. But in the midst of it all, Inuyasha and Kagome’s bond just did something for me. I remember younger me freaking out every time Inuyasha lost his shit and went full demon mode when Kagome was in any eminent danger. I was like “that’s love right there” lmao smh. Also the fact that they kissed like one time [twice??] during the entire show was so *screams into void*
Show: Inuyasha
D. LO'AK X TSIREYA: "Outcast - that's all they see!" "I see you."
Shout out to my fellow Avatar fans out there ✌🏾 I remember when the first movie came out, I freaked out and wanted a banshee SO BAD bruh lol. With the second installment and it’s new batch of dope characters, there’s so much to talk about [especially with these two]. They are basically a mirror of Jake × Neytiri, but in a different font? I love how attentive Tsireya is with Lo’ak and how much she looks out for him and his siblings. She was the first person to truly embrace and see him for him. Their love lanquage is clearly physical contact and it's too adorable. I look forward to seeing how their dynamic/ relationship evolves over future films to come. My blue babes 💙
Movie: Avatar - The Way of Water
E. STEVEN / MARC X LAYLA: "I don't need protection. What I need is honesty."
First of all, this show was sick on so many levels! You’re telling me we got to have a Guatemalan-American actor and Egyptian-Palestinian actress play mcu characters in a show revolving around Egyptian gods and legends sprinkling in themes of mental health and family?? To say I can’t wait for the second season is an understatement, but I digress. I loved Oscar and May together on screen. It was funny seeing Steven and Marc go back and forth over their dynamic with Layla and then Layla grappling with the multifaceted differences of the man [men?] she loved. I enjoyed all of the action sequences but I hope we get to see more of their complicated relationship explored in the future. It’s just so fascinating to me. I will never get over Steven kissing Layla for the first time and Marc absolutely losing it lmao.
Show: Moon Knight
F. AMY X DANNY: "Why is it so hard for us to be happy?"
Now before y’all hop on my dick for posting about this show [in the midst of recent controversy w/ David Choe, which f*ck that guy btw🖕🏾] I watched this BEFORE Choe’s shit came to light. I can’t tell you what to do. You have to personally make that judgment call of whether or not you want to support/watch the show yourself. Anywho *fixes clothes* This show is insane. It's hilarious, tragic, relatable, the whole nines. There’s so much to it but these two specifically take the cake for me. Amy and Danny's relationship take a minute to come into fruition but by the time I got to the end, I was hooked. I also just need Ali and Steven to do another project together because their a quirky pair, but their a pair I didn't know I needed until now. It was beautiful to see how despite all of their strife, Amy and Danny truly saw one another’s souls. They were reflections of one another. That entire tripping sequence in the desert the last ep was funny af but beyond deep.
Show: Beef
G. DRUIG X MAKKARI: "My beautiful, beautiful Makkari. Did you miss me?"
I'm going to be real with y’all, Druig and Makkari were the one good thing that came out of Eternals for me [aside from Kingo and Phastos' roles]. I don’t know what it was but I couldn't get into the movie for some reason and what threw me was the fact that I thought I would. They only had like 2 seconds on screen but they were the only thing I could think of walking out that theater. I swear I couldn't get over their charming dynamic. That scene where Makarri thought Druig was killed and starts going ape shit on Ikarus was peak cinema. No one harms her man! It was also such a dope moment to learn later on that the actress who plays Makarri, Lauren Ridloff, is deaf in real life. I bow down to that Queen. These two characters are just *chefs kiss* and I really hope Marvel doesn't mess up a good thing and we get to see their relationship blossom over time in a beautiful way. This Druig ^ line KILLED me. Me and who when?
Movie: Eternals
H. ZUKO X KATARA: "You rise with the moon. I rise with the sun."
Yes Aang x Katara are cute but Zutara? ZUTARA?? *violently bangs credit card on table* It was full of angst, grief, healing, sexual tension, the list goes on. They could relate to one another’s pain with losing a parent and so on. Zuko helping her find and confront her mother’s killer was everything too. Of course she had every right to be pissed at him and the fire nation but it was nice seeing Zuko work to gain Katara’s trust over time. He caused so much pain and damage to the avatar crew so for him to come back and try and rectify things was monumental. This is also one of those shows growing up that had me in a chokehold. I couldn’t decide what element I wanted to bend because all benders were so badass to me [my girl Toph was the mvp tho. Hands down the coolest].
Show: Avatar - The Last Airbender
I. RAGNAR X LAGERTHA: "We shall meet again and fight, and drink, and love one another."
Where are my fellow Viking fans? ⚔️ This show was INCREDIBLE and their love story specifically was so layered and complicated. Lagertha was the epitome of loyal but I love that outside of her dynamic with Ragnar, she was just such a dope character overall. She really held her own and took no shit from anyone, man or woman. Her hands were rated E for everyone. Their love had its huge ups and downs but you could tell after everything, there was still a deep affection there. They would do anything for one another and that was apparent every step of the way. Even after Ragnar’s death, Lagertha still kept the love she held for him in her heart. His dynamic with each character on the show was intriguing but nothing beats their powerful connection. She was one of the few people who got to see all of the real and raw sides of him and that was beautiful. The show was never the same once Ragnar’s character died [which I still don’t understand this monumental writing decision??] but it was amazing nonetheless.
Show: Vikings
J. LOUIS X LESTAT: "I wanted to forget him, and yet it seemed I thought of him always."
I didn’t watch the first iteration of this novel so I was completely new going into the show. I heard about it way after it came out but it did not disappoint. It lived up to the hype 100%. Louis, Lestat and Claudia were such a disastrous trio but I loved the little family they created [before things went south rofl]. Louis and Lestat’s story was intriguing and I was engaged from start to finish. I swear that moment when the reporter Daniel put two and two together that Louis gave Lestat an out, I yelled at my screen lol. Their love was intense to say the least and although certain moments were hard to watch, these two were electric. With that, it was so suspenseful watching Louis and Claudia ban together towards the end and scheme against Lestat to gain their freedom. The whole thing was just so *sighs* *refrains from writing a novel*
Show: Interview with the Vampire
K. BRAEDEN X DEREK: "I’m protecting my investment."
I know a lot of people shipped him and Stiles together [I mostly enjoyed their entertaining dynamic in a platonic way] but Derek and Braeden did something for me. They fought bad guys while being domestic together and younger me ate that shit up lol. Also seeing a black woman be in a type of role and show like this was also 1000/10. More black women in fantastical roles please 🙏🏾 I feel like this was the first healthy romantic relationship Derek was in too and it just had good vibes all around. He truly learned to trust a lover again. The beginning of their relationship was also hot af and that initial “anything you can do, I can do better” cat and mouse back and forth was *chefs kiss* That scene where she was teaching him how to use a gun >>>>> The reboot of Teen Wolf was not my cup of tea + I was bummed we didn’t get to see future Draeden [or their future kids??] but alas. We always have S3-S5 to look back on.
Show: Teen Wolf
L. WOO X JUN-HO: "What if you think of it as dancing the waltz?"
They are for sure one of my favorite ships. Woo and Jun-Ho need to be protected at all costs 🫶🏾 I don’t even know where to start with these two or this show. If you haven’t watched it yet, please go watch it. It’s on my top kdrama list for sure. Being close to people in my life with Autism, it was heartwarming to see how Jun-ho treated Woo. He treated her like a human being. He was loving, empathetic, patient, kind. All of the ways you should be with others in general, no matter how different or similar they are to you. It was fascinating seeing how the show tackled the subject of relationships that involve differing mental conditions and capabilities. The show was such a slow burn with them that when they had their first kiss I LOST it. I was giggling, screaming and kicking my feet in real time lmao. I’m conflicted bc I want to see a S2 but I also want it to stay the way it is. I don’t know how they would continue everyone’s story but if they resume it, I will be SAT.
Show: Extraordinary Attorney Woo
- - - - - - - - < + > - - - - - - - -
I'm realizing a big trope I cling to is "Enemies to lovers". I don’t know what it is about it but it just eats each and every time. It has a certain je ne sais quoi 🤌🏾✨There are a BUNCH of other ships l love but I'll cap it here before this post becomes a whole novel.
THANK YOU < 3

when i tell you i was genuinely crying at MULTIPLE parts… this was genuinely the saddest fic i’ve read on this app 😭
this was like the perfect amount of angst for me. again i LOVE slice of life and angst just goes so well with the trope. and now i can finally also admit that coming of age is another fave trope of mine.. i have something for angst. and call me weird but i also enjoy character death, because i love how everything just gets very angsty from there and we watch the reader or renjun in this case be affected by the death in extreme ways..
fhis is probably the fic character i’ve felt the most sympathy for. renjun was basically going through shit since he was a baby. WHICH ALSO MAKES THIW FIC AMAZING BECAUSE he and the reader are basically opposites in a sense in which she always had it better than he did? idk. but it broke my heart with how he would be clearly envious of her life style because she still had a family unlike him. that dinner scene broke my heart…
renjun’s way of coping with everything being anger is so :((( and especially after his mother’s death i just felt even more bad for him, he just never wins at all. he lost everyone slowly but still has to believe everything will be alright? like i would doubt shit too. when he freaked out on the reader because his mother’s stuff was gone which was of the only reminders of her i wanted to hug him so bad 😭😭 going through so much at such a young age is genuinely fucked up and i’m glad he didn’t hold any grudges against his mother anymore
THE SCENES RHAT MADE ME CRY WERE BASICALLY ALL OF “see her in the night, there in the corner of my eye” 💔💔 when i read that his mother died i already teared up and then the part where he was digging and met the reader’s gaze… i genuinely wanted to die at that moment i felt so bad for him. specifically the “Huang Renjun has no one. Not even his own mother now.” WAS SO FUCKED UP LIKE THIS IS LITERAL EMOTIONAL DAMAGE TO ME. or “Your heartbroken eyes search for him, blurred with tears, yet, you don’t find him. It’s like he’s disappeared the same moment his mother did. Huang Renjun vanished into the thin air. It’s not him. It’s what was left from him after life took everything from him-- an empty shell with nothing left, but anger. “ when i tell you tears were stuck in my eyes i felt my own heart break… that such a beautiful way with words to describe his loss i literally felt as if i was there witnessing his breakdown 🙁🙁
ANYWAYS GREAT FIC BEST ANGST FIC ON THIS APP YOU JUST NEVER MISS WE FREAKING LOVE YOU
the borders ; huang renjun
Tumblr media
pairing: huang renjun x fem! reader genre: childhood friends au, slice of life, coming of age, slow-burn, angst word count: 14.6k (14.618) warnings: swearing, mention of food, mention of toy guns, mention of a fist fight, broken families, mentions of alcohol, mention of domestic violence, minor character death (suicide), being pinned to the ground. this story contains heavy topics, please read only if you’re sure nothing will trigger you.  a/n: this is the first ‘long’ nct fic i’m posting i am literally shITTING MY PANTS also this may be the most personal thing i’ve ever written please handle this fic with care
synopsis: you and renjun have known each other for your whole life– growing up together in the backyards of your houses in the small neighbourghood. the two of you had been joint at the hip for as long as you can remember, but eventually, life has other plans for you. both filled with rage and violence, trying hard to accept the fate life has for you in store, can the two of you trust each other again?

v. your dad took off when you were a baby
They say that a friend in need is a friend indeed, and even though you and Huang Renjun, the quiet boy you met just because of your mother, have only just met, you would go as far as saying that you confirmed this statement right in front of his eyes just at the sheer age of 5.
Your mum dropped you off at a stranger’s house– telling you it’s her friend Mrs Huang she met in high school and that she will watch you for the afternoon, trailing off to work right after. At times like these, you despised not having an older sibling to stay at home with, not having to spend your free afternoons in a stranger’s care. That’s where you meet the tall lady with an exhausted look sitting on top of her face, wrinkles decorating her eyes and the area around her mouth, looking so much older than your mother. You learn later that your mum is the same age as Mrs Huang, the information surprising you on a sunny afternoon once you’re older and back in your own backyard, since it seems that fate hasn’t been as nice on your new friend’s mother as it has been on yours.
You meet Huang Renjun under unusual circumstances. His mum leads you to their backyard with a sad smile on her face, nudging you closer to the boy sitting in the uncut grass, fingers angrily plucking the greenery around him and throwing the stems back onto the ground where they belong. The woman pays no more attention to the two of you, disappearing into the house and leaving you to yourselves– painfully awkward and shy, sitting right opposite of each other with pouts on your childish faces.

Hi, I finished mr robot a few days ago and I really love your analysis posts on reddit! Something I’ve been wondering is, would you do an analysis on joanna and tyrell’s relationship? I felt that though it seems that joanna simply uses tyrell to obtain status in life, the interview she gave just before dying was genuine and in her own way she did love him. Thoughts? (I adore evil, sinister women and she was one of my fave side charas, I feel like she wasn’t explored to her full potential in the show...same with angela)
Hey there, thanks for reaching out. And I’m glad you liked my Reddit posts!
I think, first and foremost, what Tyrell and Joanna’s relationship represents in the show is power and control. They both have a lofty goal of climbing to the top of E Corp’s corporate ladder. They want the power, influence, and wealth that comes with being at the top, and they’re willing to do anything to achieve it.
That’s the “top level” look of their relationship. When we dig a little deeper we can see that the lower dynamic in their relationship also gives us an insight on Tyrell’s character and his true motivations behind his desperation to “be a god”. However, we don’t get a lot about Joanna and why she pushes her husband in taking over E Corp. There isn’t a lot of information on her to really gauge what her true motivations were, so we can only take a wild guess.
I don’t know where I stand with Joanna’s feelings about Tyrell. A part of me thinks that she’s incapable of any kind of genuine romantic love. I think she held love for her children; there’s a sincerity in her tone when she talks about the daughter she gave up for adoption, and there’s an uncharacteristic gentleness in the way she handles her son that I think you could only get from someone who genuinely cares for her child. But the way she handles her relationship with her husband is very cold, distant, and businesslike. It’s almost transactional. She only plays the part of the loving wife when she has to, like when she does those interviews on tv or when she and Tyrell are in public together. I think she’s very good at pretending to love her husband, but I never really got the sense that she actually loved him. I think she found an easy puppet in Tyrell and she could pull his strings however she pleased because she knew he was desperate for validation, and he would do anything to please her. The earrings story that she tells Elliot is a clear reference to that.
Same thing with her relationship with Derek the bartender. She tells him that she doesn’t care that he’s not rich, because that’s exactly why she loves him - but she says it in such a cruel, heartless way, and you can see the hurt on Derek’s face when she tells him this. He’s unsure if she means it or not when she says she loves him. I think Joanna just used him to keep her needs satiated while her husband was working with the Dark Army. I find that this is a recurring pattern with her; almost everyone in her life is just an asset, something she needs to use in order to further her pursuit of power and influence, and when she doesn’t need them anymore she gets rid of them. If she didn’t die, I wouldn’t be surprised if she found a way to reunite with Tyrell. It would make a sensational news story - the man responsible for Five/Nine suddenly disappearing, and his heartbroken wife searching high and low for him, only for them to dramatically reunite. She would’ve LOVED the attention that would’ve come with that.
And we don’t really know why she’s like that. We don’t know why she uses people or why she seems incapable of forming intimate, genuine connections with other people. A season 4 deleted scene between Tyrell and Joanna’s father hints that she comes from a loving family; her dad recalls happy memories of bringing his daughter to New York. Obviously this is one sided and we don’t know what Joanna thinks of her relationship with her parents, but it at least looked like her father loved her. So maybe being cold and calculating was just who Joanna was as a person. It’s implied she’s been through a lot - she had her first child when she was 15 and she gave her up for adoption, so maybe she’s experienced a lot of trauma in her life that shaped her into the person we see throughout the events of the show. Maybe there was something in her past that made her feel powerless and she spends the rest of her life trying to compensate for that powerlessness. Who knows.
Tyrell’s origins are also a little obscure but I think it’s easier to see where his motivations come from. In 105, Mr. Robot explains to Elliot that Tyrell is a people pleaser. He wants to know that people like him, but he hates that he wants to know. His hubris is his weakness. He needs to feel powerful and important, and the only way he can know he’s powerful and important is if the people around him think he’s powerful and important. He curates an identity for himself based on what he thinks will get him respect and acceptance from his peers - again, Joanna’s story about their first date and the earrings is an example of this. He’ll do anything to get you to like him, even if that means sinking to new lows.
And we can possibly draw this need for outward validation from the relationship he has with his father. I’m sure you can recall the interrogation scene from 303 when he’s forced to admit that he’s afraid of becoming his father. Martin Wallström explains in an interview that Tyrell’s father “represents so much in the world that Tyrell is trying not to be”. A lot of fans speculated that his father is a poor, low class, uneducated nobody with no influence or power, which might explain why Tyrell is so uptight with appearances. He needs that corner office, the designer suits, the nice house, the trophy wife, the fancy dinner parties, because it’s the complete opposite of the life he had in his childhood with his father. He doesn’t want to be a nobody like his father was so he does whatever he can to be the complete opposite of him. I think there are several hints that could hint to this - the first being the Red Wheelbarrow poem. Tyrell tells Elliot/Mr. Robot that it was the only English his father knew, which could hint that his dad was uneducated or living in an area where schooling was harder to access, or perhaps he couldn’t afford access to proper education. Another is when Irving takes him to the barn in 303 and attempts to teach him how to chop wood, but Tyrell obviously knows how, and he explains that he had to do it as a child (And he hated it), which implies that he grew up somewhere without gas or electricity, maybe a rural area, or maybe because his father simply couldn’t afford a stove or heater. Obviously these are very vague details and they can mean anything, but I’m just regurgitating what people were theorizing when the show was still running.
There are clear allusions to Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. Both Patrick and Tyrell are obsessed with the materialism of the “yuppie” life because it makes them look a certain way to others, and they crave acceptance and validation. They’re also disillusioned with how empty and unfulfilling it is, and they act out their disillusion in messed up ways (Murder, beating up homeless people, etc) because they don’t know any other way to relieve themselves of the alienation they feel growing inside of them. You can even say there’s a bit of Jay Gatsby in Tyrell too if you believe the whole “he’s trying to be what his dad wasn’t” theory, and also with the whole idea of the “self made man” and the “American dream”. Tyrell wanted to be this rich, powerful, influential businessman who was on top of the world a - a “god”, if you will - but in reality, he was just a very insecure, lost person who had no idea what he wanted out of his own life. I think he was so relentless in his pursuit of becoming a god that he lost himself in the process. He doesn’t know who he is or who he truly wants to be. All he knows is that he doesn’t want to be like his father.
And this relentless pursuit costs him what actually matters in the end - his son, mostly, but I think you can include Joanna to an extent. At the end of the day, the CTO position and his expensive Ferragamo shoes aren’t going to give him the purpose and fulfilment that he craves. What’s the point in achieving all of these things if he doesn’t have people to enjoy it with? His family should’ve been what mattered to him most, and I don’t think he realizes that until he loses them. Now his wife his dead and his son is in the custody of Joanna’s parents, and according to the deleted scene I linked earlier it looks like Joanna’s parents want Tyrell out of their grandson’s life. The thing about Tyrell and his desperation for validation is that he doesn’t hide it very well; literally everyone sees it, and that’s what makes him so easy to manipulate. Joanna manipulated him so she could get what she wanted. Same with Mr. Robot and the Dark Army when they needed him for Five/Nine and Stage 2. It’s also why Price and Scott Knowles never took him seriously; they saw right through him and saw him for exactly who he was. He’s not what he wants people to believe.
And all of this accumulates in his end in 404. I think Tyrell finally comes to a realization that he’s been living his life incorrectly this whole time. He admits to Elliot and Mr. Robot that he cared too much about what people thought about him, and that’s where he failed and Elliot succeeded. After losing his family and finally getting that CTO position he thought he always wanted, he realizes that none of this matters now because what really matters is no longer here - plus, the position is worthless anyway since it’s just for optics. All of the pain he caused was for nothing.
We don’t know what he saw in that blue light. We probably won’t ever find out. Not even Martin Wallström knows, so he had to make up his own interpretation, and I agree with it. I think it symbolizes Tyrell coming to terms with his life, accepting his fate, and having a renewed hope for his son. He spent the majority of his life doing things so he could gain the upper hand; almost everything he does is a contribution to his desperate pursuit for acceptance and validation. However, his last act is seemingly unselfish; he helps Elliot and Mr. Robot for the sake of helping them, not because he thinks it’ll get him something in return, and he ends up dying for it. In a way, it’s life a “sacrifice”, maybe even a martyrdom of some sorts. He “redeems” himself with this final unselfish act, and he’s “rewarded” with the clarity to understand that his death is a gift for his son. Since he’ll be dead and he won’t have any influence on his son’s life, Tyrell believes that this means his son will not fall victim to the same trepidations he had about his own father. Tyrell’s son can grow up and choose to be whoever he wants to be instead of living in fear of becoming his dad. You can also say that Tyrell’s death “releases” him from that fear; he’s finally “free” from that desperation to be what his father wasn’t. This is the greatest “gift” he could give his son and himself - the freedom to choose.
So, at the end of the day, I think Tyrell and Joanna’s relationship represents power and the different ways people try to achieve it. They were willing to do what they thought was necessary, but their ideas of what was necessary are different. Joanna was definitely on the more dominant, controlling side of things, whereas Tyrell was more submissive and maybe even a little subservient. I think they were both trying to compensate for something they severely lacked, though it’s unclear exactly what they lacked and where it might have come from.
I hope that helps, lol. Thanks for the question. I always love answering peoples’ inquires about the show, and I jump at any opportunity to talk about Mr. Robot.

RUO: professor and keane👀
sorry, it took so long to get you this. I wrote a majority of it all out, and then tumblr crashed, deleted everything I wrote, and I about threw my computer at the fking wall so I decided I needed a break
Professor:
Professor's characterization took a hit after the Powerpuff Girl Movie. His character in the earlier seasons is A+, and overall, he's a great dad. The writers of the show made it very obvious how much the Professor loved the girls, going out of his way to make sure they stayed safe and were taken care of. Sometimes, it was almost like he forgot he created them for the specific purpose of kicking ass and treated them solely as kids, which was/is always nice to watch.
I've got two favorite little details about the Professor i really like:
1) I enjoy how the time travel episode where the girls meet douchy Little Professor fermented the idea of the girls into his head. I love the idea that Little Professor was so inspired by these girls and wanted to meet them again that he began to take school seriously. I theorize that while the girls kickstarted his path into STEM, he forgets that they met in the sense that children's memories fade. All he knows is he was inspired to become a better person by these random and brightly colored little girls, who for some reason, he always pictures flying (??). Keeping the above in mind, fast-forward to the movie that establishes the girls' origin story. The Professor identifies a problem, realizes that the City needs new superheroes (because the og show establishes that the old ones are retired), and kind of has this moment where he's like, "huh, where did those little girls go?" and then he's like, "wait? little girls?" And the memories slot back into place and he realizes that this was his purpose, he has to create them.
While not explicitly doing so, I really enjoy how the movie weaved together with little plot points we see in the show that you wouldn't have noticed if you weren't looking, and this is my favorite one.
2) One of my fave professor gags is when the writers make him create these really complex machines or inventions, and when people ask how he does it, instead of explaining their work, the writers make him say, "Ya know what? I really can't remember???" It's so funny to me as a writer because it really do be like that sometimes, and the fact that they just establish it as an easy canon cop-out is perfection.
The professor is a really funny character and when I find an author or an artist who nails his character, it's just amazing. Honestly, not a lot of us do anything with him, but when someone does add him to their work, even just as a background character when the girls go on missions, it makes the piece of work 100x better. I think people tend to forget how important the Professor is to the girls, and when he's not added, it does them all an injustice!
Tbh, I'd think I'd do this answer injustice if I don't throw a shoutout to @miutonium. They're the only person out there that I've seen actually put time and care into the Professor's character, and I really appreciate them for it.
And speaking of miutonium, their art is so convincing, I sometimes forget her sona, Chloe isn't the Professor's gf 😂😂😂
Speaking of ships, I don't like him paired with Keane, which I feel is popular. They broke up in the show and I'm just not interested in revisiting the topic. I also don't ship him with Bellum. She's out of his league. I do however ship him with Sedusa hardcore. I think he'd be the first guy to date Sedusa who genuinely cared about her, and after the events of Mommy Fearest, she'd actually be a lil heartbroken over him. They're like this bittersweet, in another life couple that I love!
I also one time saw ship art of him and Mr. Green. And at first, i was like 😨 but then i was like 👀👀👀, so there's that too lmaooooo
Keane:
Real talk, she's like just the preschool teacher to me. I think when I was little I liked the idea of her getting together with the Professor, but now I'm like eh, whatever. If I need a mom character in my au's I'll throw her in as an easy pick, but I don't do much with her character.
This is kind of sad, I can't think of anything to gush over. I like her cat. I'm also a cat person who would dump a guy if he hated them lmao. I also think just for fun, I'd make her an ace character b/c to me she gives off zero sexual energy, which makes her a funny contrast to Bellum.

Okay honestlyyy I don't see how people can claim to love like Quinn or Santana and yet claim to hate Kitty like ??? Kitty is literally their daughter lmao. Most of her insults make me cringe (but it's the same for all cheerios ig) but she's still super funny like idk Becca's line delivery and facial expressions are just top tier so she's still fun to watch
But I also love Becca's more serious acting like she can make me feel so much for Kitty, especially in eps that don't really have much else going for them lmao. Like The Hurt Locker p2 and Previously Unaired Christmas. Like idk she can just steal the show with one well placed emotional scene and I'm here for it!
Also like we don't get to know a lot about her so I love coming up with hcs for her family life and things like that. It's fun to speculate on her life and figure out why she's Like That asfjdslk
And it's just nice to see her growth like how she starts out as this mean conniving little bitch who's out to ruin everyone's lives to genuinely caring about and making connections with the other s4 newbies and making amends for how she acted and trying to do and be better. And we get to see how much the club meant to her bc we see how hurt she was in s6 bc of it breaking up the way it did
And I like her relationships with the older characters even if they're mostly in my mind shh like Kurt and Blaine and Rachel and especially Tina lmao. I'm Titty shipper number one idk why I like them so much but they're like my top 5 fave ships lmao
Anyway yeah I just really love Kitty and I think she's wonderful and she's like my seventh favorite character tbh so like good for her. So there's some gushing for you lmao you invited this so xx
Okay I'm not gonna sit on this because !! Yes, my poor little meow meow, beloved evil bitch
I know right that's what I've been saying, she's a Quinntana love child! I hate those surface level takes where she's Quinn 2.0 cause like hell she is, if anything she's more like Santana.
And just Becca Tobin,,, god, this woman does not get enough for her work on Glee. She carried. Her line delivery was the definition of elevating the source material. The way she did the first scene of Swan Song, being a scared little girl instead of doubling down on her evil ways or getting defensive. Like, I get why people can't get over the ED mess but there's so much more to her and even in these early episode Becca carried. "In French it means kill women"??? I'm in love with her.
And you're so right her dramatic acting was something to behold too. She grounded the entirety of PUC with her storyline and reading into Kitty lines is super fascinating but also heartbreaking. I mean, "more like Mary Magdalene"? God, why is she so good. And she does have so much growth even just in the second half of s4 where she slowly integrates into the team until she takes a much bigger role in s5 and that's why it's so interesting to have her back in s6 where her trust was shattered. And to watch her interact with Rachel! A really underrated dynamic. Kitty and Rachel are one of my favourite friendships that could have been. Of course they were, a bit, but it wasn't enough. Kitty is genuinely heartbroken about being left behind and who would have thought that at the beginning of s4.
She contains such multitudes, and yes I'm digging with a shovel to get there but the little crumbs connect so well to make her a compelling character. Intrigued by your HCs for her please go on! I don't HC that much, I think, I just wildly extrapolate from what we get in canon. But I'm so interested because there's so much ground to cover with her. For example, religion starts out as this satire thing with her, like haha she's ultra conservative and close-minded, but it actually seems like she is genuinely deeply religious? Not in the Quinn way where it felt more like external pressure and something she had a complicated relationship with. Kitty is genuinely bummed about the Nativity thing and doesn't feel worthy of playing the Virgin Mary, That's interesting stuff. And when she reaches out to Ryder, even though it's never brought up again it's such an insight into her character.
I loove Kitty gushing by all means please go on, and spread the Kittina agenda too! I never really considered it so I'd love to hear more. All in all people wake up and stop sleeping on Kitty.

And the most popular vote is… Duchess Elisabeth (my vote), with Vergier (my fave RT parent) following in close second!
To whomever voted for Isaac… I’d be curious to hear your thoughts. Genuinely curious! There had to be some deeper reason for why Isaac abandoned Raphael and I will forever be disappointed we didn’t get to her Isaac’s side of things in the never-released sequel.
I do regret not putting Jean-Francois as a serious option (also, for not making the poll last a WEEK)… because, as one reblogger made in a very good point, there’s no indication that he was ever cruel to Marie before the mask slipped. And, as another reblogger said, Marie grew up in a loving environment at the convent and out of the three kids— arguably, of all the main human characters— Marie is the most well-adjusted. (It’s not much of a contest compared to the young phantom thief looking for his father and the self-proclaimed eye who constantly argues with their father..)
I don’t think it would be unreasonable to say that some of Marie’s qualities of character were instilled in her as a direct result of Jean-François. The are related, with J.F. being Eliabeth’s cousin… not that you need to be related to someone to be inspired by them. But isn’t it interesting how Marie, arguably, was more shaped by J.F. than her own mother? How bitterly ironic!
I can’t remember if it’s stated how much J.F. had a hand in raising Marie… but when Raphael first meets J.F, Marie says J.F. always donates his money and time to the convent. Whether J.F. actively helped raise Marie or not, he contributed to that loving environment that raised her, and thanks to him, Marie was able to take violin lessons. Even if this was to further J.F.’s plan, playing the violin is something Marie loves doing. Her goal and passion is to become a famous violinist. She keeps playing despite the whole ordeal with the chevaliers— Marie even goes on to join the Conservatoire.
Additionally, Marie is polite and kind to nearly everyone she meets. She’s particularly good with children— as seen when she comforts the child who lost their balloon and when she tries to comfort a crying baby. She’s passionate and hardworking when it comes to performing with her violin. At the Palace of Versailles, Raphael considers stealing someone’s invitation to get in and Marie straight up tells him “no”. While not the strongest fighter, Marie has strength of heart, courage and true determination. She is also very forgiving; even after Eliabeth shunned her, Marie plays the song to save Elizabeth’s life. (“I don’t care whose mother you are! I don’t want you to die!”)
Jean-François had a big enough impact in Marie’s life that she was ‘heartbroken’ by his betrayal. (“You broke Marie’s heart!” Raphael shouted at J.F. during their battle.) Even if Jean-François was putting on an act for years— even if it was all just to win Marie’s trust— she still felt that care from him, and it still hurt when he stopped caring for her. You could even argue that J.F’s worry for Marie is genuine when she runs off after the failed reunion with Elisabeth. He needs Marie for his plan! And wouldn’t it be easier to manipulate Marie if she was blissfully happy and unaware? Despite Jean-François‘s betrayal, I think Marie would even forgive him… eventually.
Although, J.F.’s discovery of Marie’s heritage was what drove Elisabeth to give Marie away… an argument could be made that Elisabeth would have feared for Marie’s life regardless. With or without J.F.’s intervention, Marie is still the last blood descendant of the Babylonian royal house. With or with J.F., Marie was still the key to unlocking the Hanging Gardens. With or without J.F., the fate of Marie and the world still could have been at stake, had anyone else (fake-Napoleon, the Chevaliers, Isaac etc.) decided to go after Marie.
And ultimately, Jean-François was the one to reunite Marie and Elisabeth. He is both the cause of their separation and the catalyst for mending their relationship. I find Jean-François so fascinating and if there ever is a sequel, I honestly hope he returns.
This is, of course, excluding Raphael as a dog parent. Because he’d win by a mile.
Also, I know Alfred cares for Marie but I associate him with Elisabeth.
For anyone not familiar with Rhythm Thief but would like to vote, there’s some spoilers and propaganda under the cut taken from a previous post of mine:
Duchess Elisabeth In her diary, Elizabeth writes that the best day of her life was the day Marie was born. Unfortunately, Jean-François (Elisabeth’s evil cousin) discovered Marie’s true heritage of being the last blood descendant of the Babylonian royal house don’t ask
Fearing for Marie’s safety and the resurrection of the Dragon Crown (an ancient flying weapon), Elizabeth gave Marie away to a convent when Marie was yet an infant, with her only possession being a violin… which miiight have helped Jean-François to identify Marie. (Unconfirmed in game!) Whoops. Elizabeth must have been feeling sentimental and wanted to give Marie something to remember her by. Marie can’t even remember what her mother looked like.
Elizabeth doesn’t acknowledge Marie when JF reunites the two of them later on, but we can see how affected Elisabeth is when Marie plays her violin
However, Elisabeth turns her back on Marie and walks away. Elizabeth has to pretend she has no interest in Marie so JF will leave them both alone. Elizabeth demands to know what JJF would want, theoretically speaking, if he had found her daughter. “Money? Honor?” JF, at some point, tracked Marie down, inserted himself into Marie’s life and paid for Marie to take violin lessons so she could unlock the ancient weapon. Elisabeth knows this and she must be terrified.
Later, when the bad guys threaten Elizabeth’s life in front of Marie, they reveal that Elizabeth has been lying in order to protect Marie. (Even the villain recognises this!) Elizabeth tries to keep the act up, insisting that she is nothing but a stranger to Marie. Marie decides to save her and plays the song anyway after hearing Elizabeth call her name in distress.
Then, when the giant flying weapon has been unleashed, Elizabeth takes a literal bullet for Marie. Elizabeth reveals the truth to Marie and she calls Marie ‘Ma chère, Marie’ before passing out. Marie weeps for her mother
Fortunately, a pendant Elizabeth wore with young Marie’s picture saved her from the bullet. Raphael remarks that Elizabeth was Marie’s guardian angel.
After the bad guys have been defeated, in the final scene of the game, Elizabeth can be seen peacefully listening to Marie’s music at the opera house. In Marie’s bonus episode, she watches Marie at her examination to enter the conservatoire. She’s glad to hear Marie’s laughter and she encourages her to enjoy herself. She tells Marie to “play like you were playing for him”- Elizabeth approves of her future son in law, Raphael
-
Inspector Vergier
In Vergier’s first scene, we see him sending in an army of roller-skating police officers to arrest Phantom R. Vergier takes his work very seriously.
At Paris Constabulary HQ, Raphael overhears Vergier talking to another officer about how he hasn’t been home in days. Apparently, Vergier has been on a certain case since his wife died. The other officer basically tells him, “GO HOME TO YOUR KID”.  (Charlie) Vergier clearly hasn’t recovered from his wife’s death but he’s been neglecting the one family member he has left so…
In a later chapter, Raphael again overhears Vergier talking to his colleague. Vergier asks if Charlie has turned up yet. He knows about Charlie’s mission to hunt down Phantom R, but he considers Charlie’s efforts an impediment to their investigation. Raphael picks up a family photo that Vergier dropped and decides to hang on to it. During his second fight with Charlie, Raph comments that Charlie is just like their father. Charlie snaps at him to “LEAVE MY FATHER OUT OF THIS!” (It’s not like Charlie’s trying to prove their worth or anything- what gave you that idea?)
Raphael goes looking for Charlie after Marie gets captured. He talks to Vergier’s friend from university and learns that Charlie and Vergier just had some sort of argument. Also, the friend comments that Charlie is about Raphael’s age. So... Charlie’s 16-18, maybe. It’s not unheard of for a parent to leave a 16-18 home alone, but Charlie was left at home for DAYS??? Raphael finds Charlie at a cafe and asks them to return the photo to Vergier. Charlier huffs that they don’t want to see their father again, but then they reads the message CharlieMs mother left on the photo.
During the battle below the ancient flying weapon, Charlie saves Vergier from a bunch of henchmen. Vergier acknowledges that he protects Paris in memory of Charlie’s dead mother. Charlie reminds him that there’s no time like the present, and announces that they’ll help him save the city. Vergier doesn’t refuse this offer.
In the final scene, Vergier and Charlie can be seen pursuing Phantom R together.
There’s also Charlie’s bonus episode, where they fight off the last remnants (?) of the evil organisation. Vergier announces that the case he was working on is officially closed. He’s realised that no matter how much he warns Charlie to stay away, Charlie wouldn’t listen. He just asks Charlie to stay where he can keep an eye on them.
-
Isaac, Raphael’s father
The first chapter of the game opens with dialogue of Raphael crying as Isaac leaves him. He left three years ago... when Raphael was fifteen. Raphael’s mother previously died in an accident, so Raphael was orphaned.
Raphael became Phantom R and chased after the mark his father left for him on the coin.
Raphael reveals to Marie that his father was an artist but he never got a big break. Isaac became a forgery artists, swapping his fake art pieces with their authentic counterparts. Raphael tries to fix his father’s crimes and hunt for the mark by returning the real art pieces.
Raphael thinks that he sees Isaac beneath Les Invalides and at the Palace of Versailles. He’s distressed and frustrated when he loses Isaac in the crowd. Isaac was in a hurry to escape...
During his final battle with Jean-François, Raphael learns that Isaac has been working with J.F. and the Chevaliers. Isaac made forgeries for J.F.’s organisation when Raphael was young and sickly. Raphael insists that he made those forgeries to pay the doctors. So, it does seem that Isaac initially joined the organisation for Raphael’s sake, but his intentions became warped over the years.
Raphael couldn’t believe that his father would fall in with the Chevaliers and Elizabeth was close friends with Isaac... once. Isaac couldn’t have shown any obvious signs of going to the dark side years ago.
In his final scene, Isaac discusses with the seemingly real emperor Napoleon that he wants to begin the next phase of their plan. He quietly warns Raphael to be ready for whatever that is.
Note: Isaac’s motivations and reasons for leaving are never made clear during the game or from his point of view. As we don’t have a sequel, these can’t be confirmed.

OPEN HEART: THIRD YEAR CHAPTER 1 thoughts and opinions
Wow. Wow. Wow. What a start to the new book. I am so excited with the start of the third book. One because I missed my husband and two because Open Heart is just my favourite thing ever. One thing though @playchoices where’s our baby Naveen?
Obviously the chapter opened up with explaining the changes to the hospital which by the way are INSANE. As much as I love the new and mordenised look, a part of me does miss the classic Edenbrook Hospital we have seen in the past 2 books. I really hope we get a fourth book and I know that the third book has only just started but when Elijah was talking about what was going to happen after their last year of residency, it really made me want to experience the rest of MCs career and obviously the more time we have with Ethan (Or whoever you are romancing) the better. I also like how ALL of the LIs were incorporated into this chapter and it wasn’t entirely Ethan based, because I know that annoyed a lot of people during book 2. RAF. I am so unbelievably happy that they kept Raf in the book, I mean they kind of had to but that’s besides the point. I am so happy for the Raf stans. YOU GOT YOUR MANS BACK.
Tumblr media
I picked Ethan to tell me more info because I need to spend as much time with him as possible since I have to wait an entire week to see him again. BITCH when he took our hand I nearly choked. It is so so so strange to see him actually make a public display of affection considering what we went through in the past 2 books to even get him to admit he was in love with us. And our friends reactions. I adore the fact that they are so happy for MC and Ethan. I don’t think I will be the only person to say this butttt.... Leland DEFINITELY has a hidden meaning for taking on Edenbrook. There is something dodgy about him and I am glad that Ethan has also noticed it. I have a feeling Leland Blooms storyline about the takeover of Edenbrook is far from being over.
Tumblr media
When I saw the nurses desk it was so bitter sweet. For a second I expected Danny to pop up from behind his desk and say Hey. He did not deserve to die and I will NEVER be over it. But anyway I obviously had to play every single diamond scene given to us for the opening chapter and so I accepted the chance to spend some time with our friends and take a tour of the new and improved facilities. I have to admit the new hospital sounds amazing. Almost too good to be true if I am being honest. I LOVED the little playful scene between MC and Elijah. We can all appreciate the fact that Elijah needs to be protected at all costs. And then it got a bit awkward for me because we had to choose who to have a massage with and obviously I am romancing Ethan and he wasn’t an option so I picked Bryce because why the hell not. I obviously didn’t pick any romantic options with him but I do love Bryce just not like my main man Ethan. I appreciate that the other LIs aren’t being as sidelined as they were in the previous book. Even though I am romancing the main LI of the book, it still angered me that so many people missed out on any interaction with their chosen LI in book 2.
Tumblr media
My poor baby Baz. When it showed how sad he was, I was ready to fight anyone who had made him feel that way. And then he dropped the bombshell at the end of the chapter that he was leaving PERMANENTLY. I WILL NEED 2-3 WORKING DAYS TO PROCESS THIS INFORMATION. If he actually leaves I will be heartbroken. I love his character but I am very interested to find out why he is leaving which I presume we will find out in the next chapter. DR HARPER EMERY IS DEAD MEAT IF SHE THINKS SHES GETTING ETHAN. Is it just me or was she flirting with our man the ENTIRE time. Little does she know we spent some quality time together in a certain on call room 😏. I swear if she try’s anything with him, I will not hold back. It’s such a strange route for PB to go down with trying to make MC jealous over Ethan and Harper. To be honest I’ve always loved Harper but she WILL NOT have Ethan. Leland taking away Ethan’s leadership privileges was not okay. I enjoy dating my boss husband thank you very much. I think it makes MC and Ethan’s relationship that much more scandalous if you ask me. I did enjoy the bit were everyone agreed with Ethan despite Leland clearly trying to undermine his power. Never going to happen Leland. Get over it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then came the diamond scene where MC, Jackie and Sienna went shopping for the cocktail mixer. I did like the fact that we got a small scene of us actually going shopping for the outfit rather than having to pay diamonds just for the outfits. As I said before I did every diamond option possible considering the fact it is the opening chapter and to be honest I would have done it regardless because MC looked BOMB in that dress.
Tumblr media
What made purchasing the dress even better was the fact that all eyes were on MC when she walked into the party. I chose to talk to Elijah because I just love him and I couldn’t say no to him. This meant that I got to see Zaid. Now I am not sure if everyone got to see Zaid or it was different depending on who you chose to speak to but I loved seeing him. I feel like we saw Zaid all the time in the first book and then he kinda just disappeared during the course of the second book so I am glad he made an appearance.
ETHAN GOD DAMN RAMSEY. Did you guys see that suit?!?! I almost choked to death he looked that good. And then that little cut scene!!! I think my family thought I was being murdered I screamed that loud.
OBSESSED.
And then we got the option for a ‘private, passionate end to the evening’ and lord knows I said yes. I know I keep saying this but I love that all 4 LIs were an option. The fact that scene was ONLY 18 diamonds. Bargain if you ask me. If any of you have watched Greys Anatomy it really reminded me of when Meredith and Derek had THAT scene at the prom. If you have watched it you know what I am talking about. Anyway, every single bit of that scene was perfect. When it gave us the option of him taking charge or MC, I was like BITCH we are in for a real fucking treat today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the absolute dream end to the evening spent with out man, we found out what was wrong with our patient because hello MC is the best damn doctor at Edenbrook. And you all know I picked the option that said ‘I am surprised that Emery didn’t figure it out’. Yes I know I am petty but Ethan and her are getting on TOO well considering they are exes so I have to claim what’s mine. Then Dr. Baz Mirani thought it was okay to announce that he was leaving the diagnostics team permanently. That better not mean he is leaving Edenbrook because I will put a stop to that straight away. Also, I need to know why because Baz is genuinely one of my faves and I really don’t want him to go.
Tumblr media
I would LOVE to hear what everyone’s thoughts were on this chapter. Did you like it? Why do you think Baz is leaving? Do you think Leland has good intentions?

It's 2021, and I'm watching Buffy for the first time.
The Virgil on my Buffy journey is my long-distance girlfriend, who has loved the show for years. We just finished season 4, and I wanted to write about my favorite episodes so far. I suspect some of my faves are beloved by most fans, but others are weird, personal picks. Buffy fandom, please don't come for me.
I thought this post would be short but I was wrong.
Hono(u)rable Mentions: "Band Candy" S3E6 and "Halloween" S2E6
Both these episodes have fun premises where the Scoobies run around Sunnydale after it was upended by zany, chaotic dark forces. "Band Candy" is fun for devil-may-care teen Giles. "Halloween" is fun for 18th-century-ditz Buffy. These are both very good, and are the sorts of episode I can imagine happily rewatching in the future. I just have more to pontificate upon for the other episodes on this list.
10. "Ted" S2E11
I can’t say I enjoyed this episode, but it did take me for a wild ride. Probably nobody else has strong feelings about this weird story where Buffy's mom dates a stereotypical cheesy family man, who turns out to be a controlling abuser, who turns out to be a robot. I remember shouting at the screen, "Did Buffy just kill a human man?? Is it okay in the moral logic of this show for Buffy to kill a human if he's a direct physical threat to her??" I knew Buffy would have deeper stories than the monster of the week formula we'd seen so far, but this early in season 2, I had no idea when or how that would happen. This was the episode that finally taught me that Buffy is largely not interested in moral ambiguity, or in exploring what it means to be good or bad. Except for season-defining exceptions like Faith and Angel, evil characters are simplistically, essentially evil. But it was wild to believe for a moment that Buffy murdered her mom's abusive boyfriend and would have to live with the consequences.
9. "Helpless" S3E12
When Buffy tries to be genuinely scary, it succeeds with aplomb. The premise of this episode is dumb and contrived ("Giles has to remove Buffy's powers without her knowledge for a seeeecret test by the Watcher's Council") but the chase and fight in this episode are some of the most tense and spooky scenes of the whole series so far. Buffy's vulnerability makes the stakes feel real in a way few other episodes manage. And Buffy's victory is all the more satisfying because she can't punch her way out of this problem, she has to be smart and creative. The fridge horror, of course, is that Giles would endanger her like this in the first place, but that gets sorted out over the emotional arc of the next few episodes.
8. "I Only Have Eyes For You." S2E19
Another spooky episode, this one a classic ghost story of forbidden love ending in murder - but with the twist that the ghosts possess people's bodies to have them reenact their final moments. I love stories about breaking a doomed-to-repeat cycle. I love weird shit like the snakes manifesting in the cafeteria. And I really loved the choice to have Buffy and Angel come to understand their feelings about their own relationship by embodying these ghosts - especially how they embodied different genders than their own to better fit the "roles" of the haunting story, thus subverting the expected pattern. I found this episode clever, poignant, and effective.
7. "Who Are You?" S4E16
"Faith and Buffy switch bodies" is a wild premise, but the real joy of "Who Are You?" is watching Sarah Michelle Geller being an extremely talented actress for 45 minutes, portraying a totally different character. Watching Faith confronted by kindness and love from Buffy's mom, Riley, and her friends, then getting launched into an existential crisis over it is so great. Also, I just dig a good church fight.
6. "Hush" S4E10
As stated above, love an episode that reminds me that these people are talented actors! Featuring demons that render all of Sunnydale unable to talk, we get to watch great physical comedy right next to tense, silent fight scenes. The visual creepiness of the Gentleman and their straight-jacketed weird little helpers is hard to beat. "Hush" is such a clever episode that it ascends monster of the week status to become almost Twilight Zone-esque. Also, for the first time, Buffy sees Riley doing his Initiative thing, and Riley sees Buffy being the Slayer, but they can't talk about it?? That's good shit.
5. "The Wish" S3E9
Both "Something Blue" and "The Wish" feel like the writers decided to use fanfic premises on their own show... so obviously I like them a lot. But getting to watch a dark timeline AU with interesting world-building and attention to detail, a hilarious and horrifying Cordelia POV, AND a smirking kinky vampire Willow? Hello?? And the fact that the Wishverse comes up again in "Doppelgänger" (another truly fun episode) only improves my opinion. I imagine this is the kind of episode fans simply love coming back to.
4. "Restless" S4E22
This David Lynch-ass dream sequence was a weird choice for a season finale, but an extremely ambitious and cool episode. I should say up front that I love David Lynch-ass dream shit. There were creative and well-executed scene transitions as characters moved seamlessly from one dream room into another. Several memorably neat shots - Willow running between endless curtains as she tries to get onstage, Buffy alone in a vast desert with a weirdly high camera angle. And I got myself all excited thinking that the First Slayer would maybe become a different kind of antagonist - maybe not even fully revealed in this episode, or maybe an Id-like aspect of Buffy herself. But I forgot Whedon gonna Whedon, so the First Slayer had to be someone Buffy could punch in the end. And the First Slayer is sadly yet another primitive-themed, emotionally-stunted character of color for this show. Most of her lines in this episode are literally voiced by a white woman speaking for her, and of all the dumb quips to make, Buffy had a line about her hair being unprofessional? Also, I'm a lesbian, so the fact that the most explicit act of intimacy between Willow and Tara this show has allowed us to see occurs in Xander's horny dream sequence... it’s unforgivable, Joss. This episode was one of my favorites ever, deeply marred by some bad writing choices.
3. "Lovers Walk" S3E8
Spike, perhaps the best non-Willow character in this show, is back in Sunnydale, a hilariously heartbroken mess of a man, hell-bent on getting his former girlfriend Drusilla back. (Drusilla left him for a fungus demon.) So Spike breaks into a magic shop to get ingredients for a love spell, where he runs into Willow, who is getting ingredients for a de-lusting spell, because she is worried she and Xander will be too thirsty to behave appropriately in public with their actual partners, Oz and Cordelia. This is a hilarious moment just to exist. This is all the episode needed to do to satisfy me. But the fact that Spike then kidnaps Willow, and it ends with tragic stakes of everyone's relationships coming apart, not to mention me genuinely thinking Cordelia was dead for a minute there - wow. Chef’s kiss. The episode is balanced shockingly well between Spike being an ominous villain, and being the sort of lovable semi-evil (more gremlin-like) side character he'll become in season 4. What a wild ride.
2. "Graduation Day" S3E21-22
I'm counting this two part season finale as one because it's my list and I'll do what I want. "Graduation Day" feels like a quintessential Buffy episode executed to perfection. It has Buffy reaffirming her position as a moral heroine, sacrificing her own blood to save Angel's life even when she thought she had to kill Faith to save him. It has Buffy and Faith (or Buffy/Faith, as I prefer to think of them) getting to square off in a dramatic, tough fight. It has a lot of Mayor Wilkins, a character I truly adore for some reason. Nothing like a public administrator who plays mini golf in his office, wants you to chew with your mouth closed, and will kill a graduating class of high schoolers to gain immortality. The catharsis of the whole school getting to fight back against evil, instead of just Buffy against the world - a real joy. This episode misses the top spot for two reasons. "A special vampire poison and the only cure is the blood of a Slayer" is too contrived for me to let slide, and also I had to see Cordelia and Wesley kiss.
1. "Becoming" S2E21-22
Buffy’s season finales really do have good stories and satisfying payoff. First off, Buffy starts this episode by punching a cop and fleeing from the law. Later, Spike also punches a cop. A.k.a., Buffy said blue lives don't matter. Second - I haven't gotten a chance to comment on this yet, but all throughout season 2, evil Angel is such a joy to watch. As regular Angel, David Boreanaz makes exactly one face ("I am a kicked, angsty puppy") and bless his heart, it gets so tiresome. As evil Angel, he is so expressive, dynamic and terrifyingly creative in his badness. And I love his weird threesome energy with Spike and Drusilla. But also, it's so hard to watch Buffy suffer as she deals with her evil boyfriend doing evil things. Her ultimate choice in this episode, to kill Angel even as Willow's spell restores his soul, gave me some real big feels! Also, this episode marks the first moment of Willow doing big, plot-shifting magic on her own, solidifying her transformation from computer nerd to witch!
Also, shout-out to the many good smaller moments in this episode: Spike making awkward small talk with Buffy's mom, Buffy constantly dunking on Principle Snyder, and Giles being tortured by visions of Miss Calendar (RIP Miss Calendar, I was your biggest fan.)
"Becoming" is an excellent season finale and the kind of Buffy episode I imagine I will want to re-watch in the future just for nostalgia's sake.

14, 16, and 18 for the comic asks please
14. lamest superpower?
being rich. or people who's powers are tech based but aren't cyborgs or robots like WHAT is the point if youre a human under there.
16. worst outfit ever?
Tumblr media
presented without comment. special mention to simon's second outfit bc girl WHAT was going on, and jean's miniskirt which. she is 40. why.
18. favorite writer?
ITS HARD TO SAY TBH BC... i don't think there's a single writer who i've liked every part of their writing. however i will say that I like most of Mark Waid's stuff, he's almost always a vibe and i feel like he genuinely cares about all his characters. Al Ewing has a VERY good track record with me, No Surrender was p good as far as event books go and i ADORED No Road Home and Immortal Hulk, heartbroken to see him go. Fraction is varied for me bc on one hand his X-Men run I love and his Hawkeye run is of course renowned, but there's also that one Iron Man run with him... kissing Doc Ock's tentacles and calling him master... i also like Eve Ewing she is SO talented and i love reading her stuff... ann nocenti is also one of my fave writers her stuff is WEIRD but i absolutely adore it.

Catched up with Beastars. Melon killed him?? I’m not surprised. He spare Melon from the painful truth that his dad just left him. And i’m almost sure his mom never abused him but that was his memory being disorted, just like Riz’ memory was distorted so he could justify his killing. Melon’s mom probably was heartbroken and prentended things were right bc the dad left, and Melon prob heard things in school and assumed his mom was a danger and killed gis father and then took everything she did and said in a bad way. She probably was never quite honest about his dad leaving either. The thing about Melon though, is that even before he shot himself I didn’t feel bad for him. He’s a killer. I don’t feel bad about Dahmer just bc he was bullied and had a rough childhood. Just like Melon said, he chose that path. The evil one. He is a killer and honestly? I hope they do kill him. He doesn’t deserve to get what he wants or any peace. Just like Jeffrey Dahmer deserves to rot and doesn’t deserve pity just bc he had it rough. Countless people have it rough and don’t turn to murder. I wish he would have known his father was alive though, if only to make him reflect on who his mother actually was. Because from how i see it, thinking his memories of his mom being off were just distorted due to his pov, she was a lady who loved the wrong man (for lack of better word lmao) and tried to do the most for her son. Which backfired.
Also Legosi’s grandma storyline??? Heartbreaking. I can’t believe she would die for a kiss with no cleaning. They have had sex clearly she just needed to clean. I can’t understand if either she did it knowing she would die, or if maybe she genuinely thought she wouldn’t die bc their love was so pure. Either ways Gosha’s story becomes sadder that way. His nature killed his wife and his genes drove his daughter to suicide. He really doesn’t deserve that. His story makes me sadder than anyone’s story. Because he is so good, so pure, he cares and loves so much and has been through so much pain for it. He cares so much about his family and truly all he has left is Legosi and Yahya. I didn’t care much for Yahya but if he dies im gonna be so sad for Gosha. I wanted him to reconnect and have him again. I wanted Gosha to stop being alone. At least he still has Legosi. And i’m so glad he got to meet Lois, i hope he meets Haru too. I think him and Haru would get along so well and it would probably bring so much to Legosi.
Gosha could lowkey be his own protagonist, he really is my ultimate fave character, there is just soso much love in his heart.

jonsa fic recs
alright, i’ve had a couple requests for recs, so here is my list. these are all fairly recent fics, all written this year i think. all of them are from my bookmarks on ao3, but i picked the recent ones which are my god-tier recs, my oh-my-god-i-love-this-so-much-i-think-i’m-going-to-die, the ones i reread. they have very little in common, but if you don’t find anything on here that tickles your fancy, then feel free to check out my bookmarks. i have just over 100 on there, and every single one on there are fics that i think are absolutely phenomenal.
for @abi117 @why-cant-i-be-careless and @orangeflavoryawp
canon divergent
Victory by moutainsbeyondmountains. one-shot, 5489k.
“You won already, Your Grace,” Tyrion said mournfully. “Enjoy your victory. There are no lands left to conquer. And there are no more dragons.”
if you read no other fic on this list, read this one. seriously. it’s d.ny pov, and glorious. genuinely, i couldn’t give this high enough praise. i reread this A LOT. like, a lot a lot. i could probably quote this fic.
I Want Something so Impure by @asilentfrenzy. one-shot, 10166k.
“You have caused this, you and your queen. You allowed her to speak to me that way, allowed her to order my obedience in my own home as if I’m to be her new dog to train. I am the Lady of Winterfell, and your inbred aunt has no right to-”
“Aye, you are the Lady of Winterfell,” he growled, his eyes flashing with an added flame of fury at the mention of the woman’s newly found relations to him. “The same Lady of Winterfell who not too long ago advised me to be smart, yet it seems that you can’t follow your own advice.”
“Be smart,” she repeated, filling her face with a look of mocking humor. “By kneeling? By allowing her to seize my title and command my people? Perhaps I should offer her these chambers as well. Better, I’ll just offer them to you again, seeing as I’m sure you’ll be sharing a bed. Shall I fuck her as well? As I want to be just as smart as you, Jon.”
so if you couldn’t tell from the summary, this one is sassy af. it features darkish/dominant!jon, which is my jam, and is pretty much just 10k of smut, which is also my jam.
it’s a small crime, and i’ve got no excuse by mxash. 5/5, 8214k.
“did you see her?” sansa snarled, a hand come to pull at his collar, pulling his mouth down only hairs from her own. “your targaryen queen has dressed as though she was a whore to catch your eye.” jon smirked as she bit his lip. what was this? dany had almost recoiled in her disgust and shock, but she hadn’t been able to pull herself away from the horrific sight. my lover and his own sister.
this one serves some dark!jonsa realness, and it deserves more comments/kudos. it is written entirely in lowercase, but don’t let that distract you. the characters are dark, and devoted, and who doesn’t love d.ny catching jon and sansa fucking? seriously, this one is a must-read.
Dark in Bloom by @orangeflavoryawp. oneshot, 8304k.
"His gravity wavers, the axis of his world tilted to the measure of her lips." - Jon and Sansa. The stain of desire bleeds slowly between them.
yeah orange, i’m reccing one of your own fics to you. seriously though, this is just like ... mindblowing. i cannot overstate how much i love this one. i literally will just randomly remember it sometimes, when i’m just going about my daily business, and i’m like “shit, that fic by orange was a masterpiece. love it.” so, yeah, if that doesn’t tell you how much i love it, then idk what will.
what i’m asking by @amymel86. oneshot, 1173k.
"I'm not here to talk about that," Theon says, setting off another, thankfully smaller coughing fit. "I'm here to talk about Sansa."
Jon can feel the blood drain from his face. "Is she ill?"
Theon shakes his head, lifting his eyes to Jon as he coughs into his fist. "No," he finally says, his lungs giving him a small reprieve. "The Queen is in her prime. Which is why you are needed."
okay, ya’ll obvi know of amy. she writes so much fantastic fic. but i feel like this one kind of flew under the radar? which is a CRIME tbh. this fic was so ... it was so heartbreaking, but in the best way. it’s not that divergent from canon, bc the main thing that is truly different is that theon lives. seriously love this fic.
A Toss of the Coin by Paige242. one-shot, 3793.
Years after the war, the Queen in the North and the pardoned Queenslayer welcome their first child. Old traits emerge, and Jon worries about this Dragon in a den of Wolves.
ok, so this is a future fic where jon and sansa married. i don’t even know how to describe this one. it isn’t jonsa focused, but that doesn’t make it any less brilliant. it is so unique, and i’m yet to read another fic that explores the idea of one of jonsa’s kids inheriting some targaryen madness. there IS a part two, which was just as amazing. pls do yourself a favour and read this!
Choose by @esther-dot. oneshot, 5630k
“I know the cost of our loves. I know too well how they fall on the scale, one outweighing the other. I know what you tried to tell me. I know.” She was looking at him now, and he was afraid, but he would say the words that he had been unable to silence. “I never had the chance to choose you, but I would. I would choose you every time.”
THE DIALOGUE IN THIS IS INCREDIBLE. i just reread this to try and find my fave quote, but i actually can’t even pick. there are just so many amazing conversations, between sansa and jon, sansa and d.ny, arya and jon .. ugh, the list goes on. love this, please read.
Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge by alltheshinywords. one-shot, 3187k.
Post 8x03, slightly AU. Tormund and Jaime inexplicably find themselves becoming matchmakers when they notice a certain chemistry between Jon Snow and Sansa Stark. Extreme fluff and silliness.
this one is the least angsty on the list, and honestly it’s just such a good time. i remember reading this while s8 was airing, and honestly it was just so light hearted that i laughed out loud several times, despite being heartbroken over what happening in the show.
canon, but alternative universe
leave behind a love story by aetherae. one-shot, 9562k.
Maybe if things had been different, they wouldn't be like this. They would be worse.
ok, so, despite the summary, i naively went into this expecting a happy ending. yeah, so, no. however, this was one of the most interesting fics i’ve read in a while, because each universe it explored was so different to the ones i usually see floating around. and the writing was SUPERB.
i fell in love with a war (and nobody told me it ended) by mountainsbeyondmountains. one-shot, 18752k.
In which the North and the South have been at war for years, and Sansa unexpectedly finds herself on the run with a certain Targaryen bastard.
this is an avatar/bender au, and it is GLORIOUS. after i read this, i promptly devoured every other fic this author has written bc i loved it so much. the bending is just a backdrop to the amazing enemies-lovers this fic delivers.
modern au
Fuel and Fire by @zarahjoyce. currently 4608k, 4/?, WIP.
"You see?" Sansa says, smiling now. "If you really have to have a room far away from me, seems like you need to move into a different hotel." As an afterthought she adds, "Or to another planet."
"Bet you'd just love that, wouldn't you?" Jon asks her.
"Loads," she snarls.
He takes a deep breath, all the while just looking at her.
Truth be told Jon will give anything in the world to be able to just-- just--
-
Jon and Sansa, and all the tropes applicable to them.
All. The. Tropes.
ok so zarah in general writes AMAZING fic, they’re always so creative and inventive and i’m always genuinely shook by the fic they write. but like, this one is the god tier one BC TROPES.
when we kiss: mmmm, fire by @dancemajicdance. 8/8, 39705k.
Sansa might be seeing someone casually, but thanks to Arya, Robb, and Theon, it’s Jon who’s got the inside track on how to get Sansa to take him seriously.
aka: the one where jon finds out that sansa has a daddy kink, and he uses it to seduce her away from the dating scene and into his arms, heeeey-oh!
yes yes, it’s a daddy kink fic, and it’s fucking glorious alright. if that’s not your thing though (even though i’m pretty sure this fic is EVERYONE’S thing) then please, for the love of god, check out the rest of their stuff on ao3. you won’t regret it. even though they don’t write much jonsa anymore, the prolific contributions they HAVE made will go down in history as some of the best jonsa ever written imo.
As Long As We're Going Down by @alienor-woods. 9/12, currently 42228k, WIP.
Four years after Stannis Baratheon wins the Battle of the Blackwater, Sansa Stark finds herself summoned back to King's Landing to serve as a bridesmaid at Crown Princess Shireen's wedding. When King Stannis tries to marry Sansa off to his illegitimate nephew, Edric, she thinks quick and tells him she's already married--
--to her bodyguard, Jon Snow.
i actually don’t know how to explain how much i love this. it’s written so beautifully, and it’s so realistic and just ugh. read it. the adaption to modern royalty is the best i’ve ever read, and the characters are very raw, and very realistic. (also, yes, the characters have gotten together at this point in the story, in case you were scared of committing to a wip without the satisfaction of some hot and heavy scenes).

Mmm RWBY or Uncharted for the reverse unpopular opinion
send me a topic and I’ll give my reverse unpopular opinion (aka what I love about it)
RWBY
Okay I am a sucker for everyone being named after a fairytale or old myth, I think that’s a lot of fun! And damn do I love Yang, I think she’s a fascinating character and I’m glad they showed her recovering from her injury and the trauma it brought where a lot of shows would have glossed over it. and of course her and Blake being this slowburn is so good and I am very weak.
The world set up is really cool! like I know I’ve said bad things about it but when you get down into it it is a fun world setup! monsters brought forth by strong emotions! monster hunter schools! gods and an unkillable bad guy! I am looking forward to seeing how they eventually defeat Salem.
Also! Pyrrha and Penny! while I am heartbroken over them (again) I think the storylines they were given were some of the strongest in the series. It genuinely made me emotional to see both of them step up into roles they were so uncertain about and face down things regardless of the odds they were up against.
Uncharted
Nathan Drake is my disaster boyfriend whom I love. Like not joking or kidding, I 100% love Nate. He is a god damn idiot. What a fun protag! And the characters they make in this world have always been so good! Elena and Chloe being fleshed out the way they were was always something fun to watch. I love how Elena never pulls back from calling anyone out and Chloe in her game not walking away after everything.
They’re just fun game?? I am so bad at aiming in them mind you and fall off cliffs constantly but damn, they’re such well contained small games that give you this amazing story. And I love the bits of mysticism like?? maybe there’s magic shit involved?? who knows! They’re a comfort game series to me that I pick up when I need something that’s short and linear but also gives me a lot of feels.
Like Nate has such a good relationship with his friends! he cares about them so much! Him and Sully being besties was a great choice.
And of course...Chloe and Nadine....god that game was so good and def one of my faves, I’ve replayed that one more on it’s own than I have the whole series I think but I can’t help it! The growth they both go through and then becoming partners in the end! Naughty Dog where is my sequel!!!!!!!!!!

Incoming TROS rant
yes, there will be spoilers as I will be breaking down everything I saw tonight. If I manage to type choking on my tears well after the movie finished.
----
FINAL WARNING IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS
Let’s start with a few opening words, this rant will indeed be a long one.
ALL THE LEAKS ARE TRUE. And I mean ALL of them. To a T. As soon as I saw the first half was exactly as I’d read, I was crushed. As I knew what was coming. On that note, i was probably the only person in the theatre who was crying like 15-20 minutes before we were supposed to, I’ll get to that in a bit. I’m saving the WORST for last. Let’s break this shit down.
1. The plot is a mess. An actual mess. I feel like every five minutes I was shaking my head and mumbling ‘what kind of nonsense is this’. The breaking of lore or COMMON SENSE really is substantial. But that is definitely not what I cared about, as I already KNEW this even without the leaks. When you can’t get your two directors to FUCKING WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE A COHESIVE STORYLINE it is bound to grasp for straws and make shit up. IT AIN’T NOTHING NEW.
2. Here’s the kicker. THE DIALOGUE WAS SO BAD, it makes Anakin’s AOTC speech seem like a hymn, or poetry or whatever. They CONSTANTLY say what they’re doing, they’re literally reciting the exposition to each other and it comes off as extremely annoying and makes you feel like a toddler. No hate against toddlers, but I’d rather not be one right now. It feels unnatural, forced and STUPID to the point where I would start WISHING for 3PO to come back on screen because Anthony Daniels somehow managed to snag some actually decent lines for once? I love the man, but the droid usually really annoys the crap outta me. He was literally the highlight of the film. Don’t get me started on the stupidity of all of Lando’s lines, poor Billy. Daisy has to stare angrily most of the time so I don’t really care to recall her lines. Adam, my dear Adam, he tries SO HARD to make do with what he was given but even his lines 90% of the time come off as stupid and out of place. Or the worst type in this movie, EXPOSITIONYY. Don’t get me started on Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. Boys looked like they didn’t sign up for this shit and were literally force choked to be there. I feel you guys, I feel you. ALSO FOR THE LOVE OF THE FORCE THE TIMES THEY REPEATED WORD FOR WORD LINES FROM OTHER MOVIES I WANTED TO SCREAM. Once is too much, THIS MANY TIMES IT IS A FELONY. And it needs to be punished somehow.
3. Let’s get the positives out of the way because there were FEW. The two scenes I actually REALLY enjoyed watching, for different reasons were:
Ben and Palps meeting. The scene was much longer than the clip and SUPER badass. Sheev’s voice echoes, Ben looks fucking cool and the whole scene is GORGEOUS.
The other is when Ben fights as a Jedi in the end. I’ll get to Ben later BELIEVE ME but without overexplaining, he fights with Anakin’s lightsabre, he’s really speedy and is doing all the Jedi spins and whatnot. I fucking ATE THAT UP. Replay that scene forever please CAUSE I LOVED IT. But I was already crying here so we’ll touch more on that later.
To conclude this segment, the visuals were SUPERB, the sound was AMAZING and (some) of the fights were jaw droppingly cool. But that about concludes the positives!
4. I will comment, as I know a lot of people will care even if I don’t particularily. Finn, Poe, Rose and the merry gang aside from our Jedi are reduced to EH this movie. If you thought you’d never miss Rose boy were you wrong. They introduce new characters and expect you to care about them when they SIDELINED the ones they’d hoped you’d care about BEFORE. And it made me care about NO ONE. Not to mention that, sadly, they are ALWAYS reduced to the boring side plot that really isn’t interested or key to much of ANYTHING. Sure they roused the people and all but would’ve been TOAST if Rey didn’t go all Jesus on the fleet. So at the end of the day, you MAY find some enjoyment with the side characters but their lines were some of the worst, you WILL be force fed new people and you might not really enjoy your previous faves here because even I found myself being completely indifferent this time. (I actually really ENJOYED Finn since TFA. He had a compelling storyline and John Boyega was alright. Couldn’t give two wits about him in this movie. Not a single one. But again, I may not be the perfect person to ask if you really, really like any of these characters.
5. Finally, we have arrived to the main event. THE REYLO.
The backbone of this clusterfuck of a new trilogy. The last Skywalker and Palpatine, coming together instead of apart. The arguably BEST actors (legacies aside) Disney managed to get. Now, I will start this off that I didn’t HATE Rey before this movie. I loved her in TFA, enjoyed her less in TLJ but the novelization fixed that. I was BACK ON BOARD to be her number one stan. In this movie, I couldn’t STAND her. Her lines are basically the director walking you through things, her plotline was obviously made last minute so almost none of it makes sense,  I literally wanted to curl up and DIE from cringing so hard every time someone said ‘you’re a Palpatine’. I thought I was looking at a very expensive rendition of terrible fan fiction. (Not to diss fan fiction in any way, you guys will be my heroes after this catastrophe.) ‘Empress Palpatine’, COME THE FUCK ON AND GET OUT WITH THIS SHIT. Bring back crusty old Snoke for crying out loud! Or even HUX! Who got killed off in a second and had three lines of dialogue, not important I guess? Like a great many things I guess, JJ. But, EVEN Palpatine aside, it was great seeing him again and every scene he was in I got chills, who cares that it makes zero sense at this point. Back to reylo.
Ben. Ben Solo Organa Skywalker. The last hope. The final remnant of something I have loved FOREVER. I grew up with Star Wars, like many others just in a different, post prequel era and they are still my favourites. This might sound ridiculous but Star Wars was part of my heart, my happiness. It brought me joy to watch it, read it, fantasize about it and have it in my life when times were dark or miserable. It MEANT something to me, as I am sure many of you will agree. And Ben was part of that. He was part of something that MEANT something to all of us. He was the last line of the characters we all grew up with and loved. The GRANDSON of Anakin, my favourite character of all time. This was their chance to stop the trend that Loki’s death in IW and Daenerys’ death and turn and many others started and STOP killing people who did wrongs. PEOPLE can change, they can grow and they can learn. Hell, to not stray to far from this franchise REY has killed A LOT of people in this movie alone. She DECIMATES the room full of Palpatine’s followers and never blinks an eye. SHE NEARLY KILLS CHEWIE, DOES KILL BEN (for a minute) and SHE DOESN’T NEED TO DIE. Of course she doesn’t but BEN DOESN’T EITHER. After all that YOU JJ, YES YOU, show me that the LAST SKYWALKER has gone through, suffered, alone and frightened. I would’ve ENDED you if you’d suggested killing him off to me, EVER. He was your chance to do a reverse Vader, AS YOU CLAIMED YOU WOULD. To show a character can come back to the light and be worthy of it WITHOUT DYING. You even set it up as such, which is my next and CRUCIAL POINT.
I’ve been a reylo since 2015. Their dynamic has always been fascinating to me and beautiful. I LOVED all the moments in TLJ, LOVED THEM. In this one, every time they force bond (terrible dialogue aside, again) I was happy. I had a hope that she would bring him back from the darkness and he will keep her balanced. WELL, JJ, guess fuck me huh? And anyone with common sense and human decency. JUST WHEN you shove Ben’s turn in my face, you make him talk to Han, you make him strut in to fight alongside Rey in full Ben Solo Jedi mode, hair blown and casually dressed. It was when he runs onto Exegol that I started weeping. Because knowing that he dies as I did, it broke my heart how it was done. You give me the scene where he fights and you give me hope of what his future could’ve been if only you’d listened to reason and done what was supposed to be done. He is chucked into the pit, WHICH MIGHT I ADD WOULD’VE MADE ME MAD IF THAT WAS HIS END BUT WOULD’VE BEEN SOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT WE GOT, comes back. And now comes the scene that cemented this as the ABSOLUTE WORST insult to me as a fan, possible. Ben is heartbroken that Rey is dead, the moment is sad and he cradles her dead body and hugs her desperately. Which would’ve been a beautiful and GOOD DIFFERENT type of ending. Or rather not having her die at all and being NEAR her death and him saving her and both living happily ever after BUT NO. JJ AFTER THAT has her come back, smile happily when she sees it’s him, her love her hope and the other half of her SOUL literally (the diad or whatever it’s called is so rare that Palpatine was thrilled they’d formed such a bond, basically space soulmates), he has them kiss, then hold each other and smile at each other with genuine feeling of joy and belonging both of them had sought all their life AND THEN YANKS IT FROM UNDER YOU. The scene where Ben falls flat onto his back is quite comical and I couldn’t help but laugh in my misery and sobbing. Rey doesn’t even cry, we don’t even LINGER on his body or mourn him afterwards or even mention it or EVEN SEE her, THE PERSON WHO LITERALLY FOUND HER SOULMATE AND WAS SO HAPPY WHEN SHE KISSED HIM AND WAS LITERALLY SAVED BY HIM, but no guess that doesn’t require a scene, sure, fuck it LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE. The cheery music that plays up until the moment of his fall, YES THE FALL OF SKYWALKER MIND YOU NOT A FUCKING RISE, was an insult to every fan everyhwere, lifelong or recent or otherwise, it was a punch to the gut, a slap in the face and after this happened I no longer paid attention to the movie. I’d been crying for some time leading up to the moment, I knew what was coming and the execution only made it worse and a more desperate cry rather than only sad, I was hoping it wouldn’t happen somehow. I choked back tears until I finally got home and cried. One of the things which MEANT so much to me, was dead. I no longer have any doubts, that this was intentional. Look at Game of thrones, that was this year. It seemed intentional to make series stop, right? Everyone agrees. They wanted to finally bury the Skywalkers so they could make something unrelated? They kill off all the Skywalkers. Well guess what disney? YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO BRING THEM BACK IN THE FIRST PLACE, YOU MONEY HUNGRY PIECE OF SHIT. No one would have minded a new trilogy, with new characters doing NEW things. Why even drag the Skywalkers and the leagies into this if YOU DON’T WANT THEM HERE? All you got was millions of lifelong fans of the old movies who have already felt or are only now beginning to feel BETRAYED. I swear it disney, I don’t want to feel this misery again. You won’t take Star Wars away from me and the joy it brought me. I will without a care in the world dismiss this new trilogy as something completely separate from canon. You’ve killed your own fanbase. You could’ve had us but you LOST us. You dangled something we wanted in front of us for our money and then you ripped it apart.
If you are anything like me, anything like me at all and have loved SW for however long. if it MEANS ANYTHING TO YOU, I beg you not to see this movie or at the very least, pay for it. You WILL feel betrayed, insulted, heartbroken, devastated and miserable, as I am feeling right now. I was supposed to go see this movie another two times but i cannot and will not spend another CENT on a company that chooses to alienate me. Fine, have it your way. I’m done.
This concludes my rant as I am tired and upset. If I missed out on anything and you are interested in anything else, please do DM me or leave a comment :) We’re all in this together now, the reylos the antis the new fans and the old. We’re all in the same heartbreaking boat, I love you all. And I will love Star Wars. The REAL Star Wars forever. I wasn’t even sad the ‘FRANCHISE’ was ending because it wasn’t. It had ended a long, long time ago.
