The second time she wears it she knows she’s about to proposed to. Her practical plan is working. She has gained in her own confidence and she’s realising she has a voice. Yet her heart yearns for love. She’s got what she wants but not what she needs. And she looks away from her own reflection brushing away her hopes of one day finding true love.

The third time she wears it she’s shown in an incredibly empowering position. She is no longer Penelope Featherington, practical, resolute, putting security before her dreams of finding love. She is no longer little Pen, overlooked and hiding behind her pen and the powerful persona of Lady Whistledown she’s created for herself. She is Penelope Bridgerton. She is aware of her power and she is in control of her own voice. She is successful and oh so loved by her husband.
